Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our good friend Kyle Olsen from the Midwestern or the
Midwesterner dot News, joining us now and up on the
island this weekend as the Midwesterner bosting that strumpol We
were just talking about that, but boy, there's gonna be
a lot to talk about on the island, and we'll
even tell you what we're going to talk about on
our panel this weekend as well. Coming up, Kyle, Welcome in.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Man, Good morning, Thanks for having me.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
So it's been another busy week, and we can go
all over the place national stories, but I think back
here at home. Look, we talk Kimmel, we can talk Kirk,
we can talk all those things that are happening right now.
But back here at home, we've got a lot going
on too. In fact, I'm looking at the top story
on the Midwesterner right now. I'm sure this will be
discussed up on Macanol this weekend. Analysis manufacturing job growth
(00:45):
in Trump's America will hit four hundred thousand, by the way,
that the administration really proud of how things are working
out right now for the economy, things turning around four
hundred thousand by twenty thirty three. Whitmer's Michigan at the
same time loses over. We're eighteen thousand, we're talking about
massive and I've been ringing the alarm on this as
(01:07):
I've been talking with goubernatorial candidates and other folks as
well in the state wide races. But here in Michigan
we're seeing an explosion of growth. The rest of the country.
I've been warning, look, if we're not careful, we're going
to miss out on this back here at home.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Well, yes, that's exactly right. And this idea that America
can't compete with China or India or other countries for
manufacturing jobs is clearly not true. And I think the
whole strategy behind President Trump's tariffs is to force manufacturers
to bring jobs home and this analysis is showing that.
(01:46):
But at the same time, if you're in a state
that is not competitive because energy prices are too high,
because corporations don't want to move, because schools are not
where they should be, or because there's too much crime,
then states like Michigan lose out. And that's what the
(02:06):
prediction is.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Yeah, to me, that would be an absolute disaster. By
the way we put the world on wheels, Manufacturing is
what we do here in Michigan. If we're not careful,
all of this is on the line, and by the way,
in twenty twenty six, it still won't be too late
to save it. We got to make sure that we're
clear about that when we head to the polls. That's big.
(02:30):
What else, obviously is going to be a big factor.
I think energy, Kyle, we've had and I think we'll
probably talk about that this weekend of the policy conference.
But we've seen people complaining over and over and over
again about their energy bills and they're getting it. By
the way, there's not just a light build a gas bill.
And I just saw DT you think a story you
(02:51):
guys had the other day. They're going back wanting to
raise the rates again on folks. And this is distribution charge.
Now I understand distribution charges like infrastructure. So when you
pay that distribution charge, folks, if you just just realize
a lot of that's probably the wind, solar and unicorn
farts that has been pushed on us time and time again.
(03:12):
Oh Dad, you that's why I'm paying so much.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Correct, And and when people want to look at if
people if people want to put solar panels on their
homes or they want to put turbines up or whatever.
I think most people would say if that's if that's
what you want to choose to do, then have at it.
But the problem is if people want to sort of
you know, quote unquote go off the grid, there's caps
(03:38):
on how much they can do. And if they want
to make their own solar energy or wind energy, they
can't sell it to other consumers. And so the the
the utilities have really stifled creativity and innovation and and
and then when you've got corporations that are looking at
(03:59):
where do they want to go, and they're looking at
Michigan's energy prices, it's a major problem. And Michigan has
already at a disadvantage because it's a peninsula, and so
there's you know, there's literally dead ends of energy, and
so it's already a problem for Michigan. But you know,
I mean where we're going this weekend, Mackinac Island, the
(04:21):
Upper Peninsula. They rely on Line five for basically one
percent of the propane, and Dana Nessel and Gretchen Whitmer
want to shut down Line five and make it even
more expensive. So those, I think are a lot of
the topics that are going to be discussed and what
does the state do, what does the Trump administration do?
(04:42):
And it's going to be interesting discussion.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
Yeah, it's not just residential with the energy, it's manufacturing again.
You know, if energy costs are through the roof for manufacturing,
what that really that really hits them and whether they
decide to locate here or not. What else is happening
at the Midwest, right? I know you guys. As I said,
covering all the stories statewide, there's a peckmin today shock
(05:04):
video state rep my song chomping off the head of
a chicken while bragging about her effort to slay Republicans.
Probably not the right time for this message.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
It's I don't know if there ever is a right time,
but it's a yes you can. You can see it
at the Midwesterner dot news. So my song is she's
a state representative from Warren in McComb County, and she's
got she loves to do these videos about House Speaker
(05:37):
Matt Hall and bizarre videos, and so she makes in
this video, she makes the soup and apparently she makes
it with with a raw chicken. There's in the video
you can show her. It shows her scooping the chicken's
head out of the soup, which that would not be
appealing to me, but that's just me. And but she
(05:58):
talks about slaying publicans, which is a you know, as
you said, is sort of odd timing. So you can
see that at the Midwesterner dot News. It's on our
ex account. You know. My guess is, people will you know,
be demanding that she's censured or something like that. Who
knows if that's going to happen. I don't really know
what difference that makes. But these are the sorts of leaders,
(06:20):
quote unquote leaders that we're seeing in Lansing. So as
we are sort of heading towards a government shutdown, this
is what people like my song are focusing on.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, absolutely disgusting to see that, especially with all the
rest of the rhetoric that we see permeating in the
country right now. Hey, what's happening on the island. You
guys are going to be a big part of the
straw point. I know you're looking forward to that, and
lots of folks are looking forward to get some results
out there.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah. So so the Midwestern is going to be doing
a lot of different things, will be live streaming several
of the speeches, including tonight. Secretary Nome will be there,
Clay Travis, Chris Lasovita, et cetera. So that's going to
be an interesting night. You and I will be on
a panel talking about Michigan media tomorrow afternoon, so we'll
(07:13):
be live streaming that as well. House speaker Matt Hall
is supposed to be speaking tomorrow night. So it's going
to be an interesting and interesting weekend. And then The
Midwesterner is sponsoring the straw pole of all of the attendees.
At last I heard it was over six hundred. I
haven't heard of the latest number, but it's it's going
to be a very, you know, sizable sample size. And
(07:36):
we're asking attendees about President Trump's approval. We're asking who
do you like for governor, for secretary of State, for
attorney general, and who do you like in twenty twenty eight,
So it's I think it's going to be a lot
of interesting results and we'll be sharing those tomorrow night.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Yeah, looking forward to that. I think our panel is
going to go There's lots of action packed moments that
you can stay tuned with The Midwesterner for this weekend.
Always a pleasure, my friend. Thank you so much, looking
forward to our time up there.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Sounds good. Thank you.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
You got it.
