Speaker 1 (00:01):
Buy from Higher Top Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids.
We're talking about what matters most to you when West
Michigan joined the conversation. Now at six one six seven
seven four, twenty four twenty four. At six one six
seven seven four twenty four twenty four, it's West Michigan
Live with Justin Barklay on Wood Radio Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Welcome in, partially open for business today, we'll we'll explain government.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
And even here. I kind of feel like we may
be partially here today. I don't know if we're all
here or not. We'll we'll have to find out how
the day goes.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
Strappling with us. But we're gonna cover it all today.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
That shutdown at the federal government, what it means, the
crisis averted in Lance again, some news that you're gonna
want to hear.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
I don't think you may be hearing anywhere else. Hang on,
that's all coming, weather and traffic.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
I'm his stories of the day. We are talking about
what matters most in West Michigan and beyond. This is
the Big Three.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Now see the stories amount of most would be talking
about these around the water, cool, the dinner table, no
matter where you are.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Courts, you are good friends at Hartland Home Mortgage.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Daff Gatiway and the team want to make sure that
you're set and of course goodbye Refine home equity line
of credit.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
There's so many.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Different options that they can help you with and walk
with you through whatever it is that you want to do.
We've used them in each of those ways, and I
can tell you we've sent thousands every time. And the
folks that listen to this program have to find out
why we love Hartland Home Mortgage Dave Gataway and the
team at Hjim Lynding dot com. One well, federal government

(01:51):
has officially shut down, partially anyway. I have. Senate Democrats,
led by Chuck Schumer, blocked the House Past funding bill
late last night. Here's what's hanging in the balance and
why the gop back measure would have kept the government
running for thirty days, slashing discretionary spending and boosting border security.

(02:12):
Democrats looking for health care for illegals. Essentially, they want
to do some things that were undone in the big
beautiful bill, and Republicans saying that we are we've already
done that, We've already taken care of that, making it
all about politics. Sort of a grand standing scenario here,

(02:33):
Republicans refusing to go along with a no deal struck
before the deadline, so federal agencies began shuddering operations this
morning earlier. Now, what does all that mean. Let's get
into it, coming up personally. Don't threaten me with a
good time. I kind of like the sound of this.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
That's just me.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
The crisis averted at Lancing, though, where Michigan lawmakers have
reached a last minute budget deal, narrowly avoiding a state
government shutdown. Here are the partisan agreement, including full funding
for schools, roads, and local governments, as you've been hearing
earlier this morning on the news, and nearly two billion
dollars allocated for infrastructure and education. Final votes cast just

(03:13):
hours before the night deadline, keeping in state offices open,
paychecks flowing, more than six thousand students in the good news,
a record number of people turning out for the first
Turning Point USA event in Utah since Conservative founder Charlie
Kirk was assassinated. It's incredible to see by the way,

(03:36):
a bomb threat, even a bomb threat, didn't stop.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
What they had planned. It's just incredible to.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
See this number of people showing up and first in
Utah since.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Look at all.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Those people there, that's that's incredible as they continue to
fight the good fight.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
We'll do that today too.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Of course, give you a chance to jump in on
the phone lines, whether it's do hang on. A couple
of ways to join the conversation today. And it's like
I said, very simply on the phone or on the

(04:31):
talkback feature the MKD Funeral Homes provides via the iHeartRadio app.
All you have to do is hit that little microphone.
It's next to the play button, rant raves, sound off,
ask a question, whatever, take a take a number if
you want to come play. That's pretty simple to do.
But we love to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Call Justin now at six one six seven seven four
twenty four to twenty four. That's six one six seven
seven four twenty four to twenty four, West Michigan Live
with Justin Barclay on News Radio would thirteen hun and
one six nine a f M.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
So let's dig into some of the audio from the
talking back and forth, particularly about the shutdown. President Trump
has a couple of things to say, the Democrats do too,
and then what's affected, what's impacted? Because the sky is falling.
That's what you're about ready to hear from democrats in
the news mainstream media. By the way, I repeat myself,

(05:33):
here's what Trump said last night.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Shutting it down.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
We're not shutting it down. We don't want it to
shut down because we have the greatest period of time.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Ever s Shuma shutdown.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
I tell you, we have seventeen trillion dollars being invested.
So the last person that wants to shut down is us. Now,
with that being said, we can do things during the
shutdown that are irreversible, that are bad for them and
irreversible by them, like cutting vast numbers of people out,
cutting things that they like, cut programs that they like.

(06:02):
And you know, you all know Russell though he's become
very popular recently because he can trim the budget to
a level that you couldn't do any other way. So
they're taking a risk by having a shutdown because because
of the shutdown, we can do things medically and other ways,
including benefits. We can cut large numbers of people. We

(06:23):
don't want to do that, but we don't want fraud, waste,
and abuse.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
And you know, we're cutting that they've been doing. They've
been working. Look, this is part of why he went
and this is.

Speaker 3 (06:34):
I think the this is this is the demand the
American people have made. This is the mantle he ran on.
This is what they've asked him to do, and they're
doing it. So I don't know. Democrats can scream, they
can holler, they can shout, they can say the sky
is falling all they want, but at the end of
the day, this is, this is what they've asked him

(06:56):
to do.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
They want to have illegal aliens come into our country
and get mass healthcare at the course to everybody else,
and we don't have it. And that's that's I would
say the number one reason that they want to strike
is to get illegal immigrants healthcare. And you know Gavin
Newsom wants that too in California and it's destroying California.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
We can't have that. We're not gonna. Yeah, I I
don't know who can argue with that. Let it happen.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
I really don't know who can argue with that. It's
it's it's a tough one, of course. Yeah, I will
tell you this. The back and forth on it is
it's kind of funny to watch democrats, Like I said,
sky is falling film. The cinemajority leader spoke on this

(07:45):
last night and said, look, we've we've done enough here.
He said, I'm hoping they are reasonable Democrats. There are
enough there. You don't remember they got They got to
have sixty to get this because it's a it's a
spending so they've got to have sixty votes to get
it done.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
I think they had. I think it was fifty five.

Speaker 3 (08:05):
I have to have to check on that, but they
need sixty to get it done, and it was quite there.
It's a lot of votes, but thuns saying he kind
of he says he hopes they can get to it.

Speaker 5 (08:18):
I'm hoping there are enough reasonable Democrats over there. We
get picked up three tonight when we voted on this.
We're going to vote on it again tomorrow. Hopefully we'll
pick up some more and eventually we'll get enough to
pass this thing in the Senate, keep the government open.
But this was all unnecessary. This is all done to
satisfy their left political base and Schumer's fear. I mean,
this guy is somebody who is running scared obviously every

(08:41):
single day from AOC and the other you know lefters
that that he has to answer to and what you're
seeing at least in you know, every day now in
the Senate is his reactions and in the ways going
about the business of the Senate, in this case, shutting
down the government. And it's up to the Democrats. I mean,
we passed I've said this, you saw earlier.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
This is our bill.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
It's very straightforward, funds the government and avoids a shutdown.
And now they've they've blocked it on two votes. We're
gonna have another vote tomorrow and they'll probably try and
block it again. But I think people are going to
start cracking because they're going to realize this is a
losing hand. Yeah, And it looks like every time you
guys vote on it, they lose more votes.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
You know, It's interesting to me. My question I just wondered,
is it is it possible that Trump doesn't mind the
government shut down? Is it possible they don't really care
that the government shutdown because it's really backed the Democrats
into a very tough position. It's a very bad corner
for them to be backed up there, and then, by

(09:40):
the way, their consequence. So the question is what happens
if things get shut down? I want to talk about
that here and a soon. But there's some other consequences.
We got to mention too.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
The Democrat caucus here in town in the Senate has
chosen to shut down the government over a clean, non
partisan funding bill. That's right, a clean non partisan funding bill.
We didn't ask Democrats to swallow any new Republican policies.
We didn't add partisan writers. We simply asked Democrats to

(10:09):
extend existing funding levels to allow the Senate to continue
the bipartisan appropriation's work that we started. And Senate Democrats
said no. Why because far left interest groups and far
left Democrat members wanted to show down with the president.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yeah. They Who are those folks? I can tell you.
One of them is Maxine Waters. I don't know howls.
She's up there. Somebody from Lyndell TV. I thought this
was fantastic.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Reinterviewing her.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
I don't think I think it's somebody from Lyndel time
watching it on Lindell TV. That's what we're going to
pull this up from. I don't know if they were.
She probably didn't know who they were. She snaps at
the reporter being asked about healthcare for illegal by the way,
that's that's what they want. That's that's what they want here.
Don't don't get it twisted. They're trying to keep the

(11:09):
scheme going healthcare.

Speaker 6 (11:10):
Illegal aliens over a government shutdown, because if the government
does shut down, excuse.

Speaker 7 (11:15):
Me, stop it right there. We're not prioritizing. What we're
doing is saying simply, we want to keep the government open,
and we want to work with the Republicans and have
a bipartisan agreement to keep this government open, and health
care is at the top of our agenda.

Speaker 6 (11:33):
But our Democrats demanding health care for illegal aliens.

Speaker 7 (11:35):
That's right, Democrats are demanding health care for everybody.

Speaker 2 (11:41):
Well, there's some folks lumped in there. It probably shouldn't
be getting it.

Speaker 7 (11:46):
We want to save lives. We want to make sure
that healthcare is available to those who would die.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
But having but.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
By the way it is, it is if you're here
illegally and you need emergency care or you're going to die,
you're going to get it. It's it's it's not that
you want. This is This is Obamacare, the Supportable Care Act.
This is actual money from the federal government that they
want to continue to fund folks to be able to
stay have a cushy existence here.

Speaker 7 (12:16):
That's what this is the help of their government, the gun.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
And by the way, the one big beautiful bill that
got rid of all this.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
That's why they're fighting about this right now because they
want it back.

Speaker 6 (12:28):
But shutdown even if it means giving health care to
people who aren't Americans.

Speaker 7 (12:33):
That well, you keep that's what you're pushing on. What
you're trying to do is you're standing here and you're
trying to make me say that somehow we're going to
put non citizens over Americas.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Quit it. Well, no, that's clearly what it is.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
You've decided that they're more important than keeping the government open.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
And isn't that it top it?

Speaker 7 (12:53):
This is the kind of journalism we don't need. You
have as it. No, you're not.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
You're being a divisive now the woman asking a question,
it's apparently it's divisive for asking a tough question.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
I said no, so you're not on my team.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
So your devisive Be careful, ma'am. You're gonna be called
racist before you know it.

Speaker 7 (13:10):
Please, you don't need to ask that question. You're just
trying to get controversy here.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
You're not going to.

Speaker 7 (13:15):
Get it from me. We want to save health care
for all people.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Thanks all people, including the ones that aren't supposed to
be here legally. They're breaking the law. Ah, So now
you have it. It's pretty clear. I don't know if
it's ever been more clear. By the way, how old
is she? Does she need to? I mean, somebody got
to get the cane out and then pull her off stage.
It's time to retire. I can't believe it. They actually

(13:41):
let her stay. And then people is that Texas? Is
that where she's from? No, it's California. That's it though.
That's why, right, and I keep voting her in.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, go on back vaccine? Holy smokes? All right? So
what else happens? Because here's the feeling.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I almost get a feeling like they kind of like
this Trump kind of light kind of their I think
they may have played right into his hands.

Speaker 2 (14:08):
What does that mean? What what really happens?

Speaker 3 (14:11):
A little secret about what's about to transpire now the
government shutdown or.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
What can legally happen now that's shutdown.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
I'll get into that. Hang on, don't go anywhere. We
continue right after this on West Michigan Live. If you're able,
please join us and stand for the national anthem.

Besting live tomorrow from Cornerstone University and the Wisdom Conversations
ahead of that big.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Event they're having tomorrow night, another big one. They're making
a debt.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
Make it a major impact in the conversation in community
and of course with faith and for the family. I
really I think there's gonna be a great conversation. They
do this quite often, and the president there has done
a fantastic job with that university.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
I think you're really gonna enjoy this.

Speaker 3 (17:37):
If you've ever wondered maybe what it would be like
if you could push the pause button all the noise
and everything that's constantly prevailing every day, right, maybe just
really cut the through it all and hear the ideas
that matter most so your faith, your family, your future.
This fall, Cornerstone University is doing that with Wisdom Conversations.

(18:01):
Respected thinkers will be there at this conversation tomorrow. Tough
cultural questions will be tackled all through a biblical leends
and from milatter state. Dude Dixon's going to be moderating.
I just heard that yesterday, so that'll be fantastic. We'll
be doing the show from their lives tomorrow the first
event and again it happens six point thirty pm tomorrow night.
The theme is the family, strengthening and healing the fabric

(18:24):
of the nation, concluding some great national voices that you're
going to want to see and be a part of.
These folks are fantastic. Director of Outreach for Moms for Liberty,
Catalina Stuby, will join us the president of the university
tomorrow as well. And if you want to know more,
go to Cornerstone dot edu and make sure you get
registered so you can actually show up and be there

(18:47):
in person. Okay, so I floated this theory. Maybe Trump,
Maybe Trump wants to shut down. Call me crazy. I
kind of like it. I'm sort of a fan. Why
because all the it's not a full it's just a
partial shutdown. What I mean by that, all of the
essential services, which I have a hard time saying since

(19:08):
twenty twenty, but you know, all of the essential things
that keep us rolling and safe, et cetera, will will
continue now now some of these folks are furloughed, so
they don't get paid until after everything's funded, which I
don't agree with either.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
I think they ought to get paid.

Speaker 3 (19:28):
But even while the Democrats forced the hand and it's
it's the Schumer shutdown here. Democrats again doing this because
they want free health care for illegal aliens. That's that's
what this is all about. By the way, I just,
I just I think there might be something to this.
There might be a little bit more to what meets

(19:49):
the I want to talk about that coming up. In fact,
tell you why I've got this little theory on my
tenfoil hat on coming up next. Hang on, don't go anywhere.
We're back with more West Michigan Live after the bottom
of the hour news right here on Wood Radio. Not

(20:10):
too long ago, asked on stage, all the Democrats running
for president agreed they ought to have free healthcare for
illegal aliens.

Speaker 10 (20:19):
Raise your handed, government, if your government plan would provide
coverage for undocumented immigrants.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
All the hands went up. All the hands went up
at that debate. Uh, it's clear this is exactly what
they'd like to do and what they've been wanting to
do and doing kind of behind the scenes for a
while now, but since the one big beautiful bill took
that away, they're trying to get it positioned and put

(20:50):
back in. That's really one of the biggest reasons why
you're watching this Schumer shutdown happening right now. That's why
you're watching The Democrats want the illegal aliens to go.

Speaker 2 (21:00):
Ahead and have a forgot.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
By the way, you have to pay through the nose,
even with Obamacare. I don't know about you, but it's
made things, I think more expensive in a lot of ways.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
You have to pay through the nose for things.

Speaker 3 (21:11):
Since the last time you got something for free, somebody
coming here sneaking into the country.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
No, no, no, they wanted they want it off, and they.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
Got to get it all for free for according to
the Democrats, the way they'd like to have this done now.
I want to talk health care in a little bit,
because there was really some actual healthcare major announcements made
yesterday that you do need to hear about. I want
to make sure we get to that coming here in
just a little bit.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
But he's the real read. This might be the real reason.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Why they want a government shut down, why Trump might
be just be okay with it. In fact, I don't
know if you've heard this.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Yet, We're not but Russ Vote. You know, have you
heard that name before Russ Vote? You know who that is?

Speaker 3 (22:05):
He is the director of the OMB, the office of
basically the budget guy.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
That's what he does.

Speaker 3 (22:13):
Is what is what does vote get to do immediately
upon a government shutdown? And the Democrats have walked right
into the trout by the way, I.

Speaker 11 (22:26):
Mean, estimate for us, give us some ballpark numbers here,
we've already had some sizable reductions in force. Actually, there's
a number three hundred thousand floating around for this calendar year.
That may or may not be the right number, but
that number is floating around.

Speaker 2 (22:45):
Now.

Speaker 11 (22:46):
If there's a budget shutdown, as our own chat program
suggested almost intellectably, will be a budget shutdown, then you
have the authority to reduce the federal employee employee by
roughly how much.

Speaker 12 (23:02):
Well, I'm gonna let that those kinds of questions extend
until tomorrow in the days after. Right now where we are,
we have hours to go before a government shutdown, and
it can be avoided and then we'll get in tomorrow.
The preparation is all done we have many options, but
we're going to get in tomorrow and see where we are,
and we're going to manage this shutdown and try to

(23:23):
keep the American people from the havoc that the Democrats
have caused on with their crazy demands.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
All right, So this guy is very diplomatic about a
diplomatic about what he's saying. But let me translate for you.
They can fire massive numbers of government employees. The swamp
is draining itself, and the Democrats it would be interesting
to see how much pain they're going to endure because

(23:50):
as there's there, these people are people that vote for Democrats.
Again that these are the people that work in the
federal government that are going to be they're going to
be getting the acts.

Speaker 12 (24:01):
But let it be said, there are all manner of
authorities to be able to keep this administration's policy agenda
moving forward, and that includes reducing the size and scope
of the federal government.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Do you hear what he's saying.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
This is kind of like my fury about well maybe
Trump actually went because I don't know about you, but
I hear government shutdown and all the chicken little sky
is falling stuff, and I kind of just I kind
of chuckle because I think, don't threaten me with a
good time. As I said, like this is this is
kind of god, you know, the swamp again draining itself.

(24:38):
Maybe that's maybe that's not a bad that's just kind
of way I look at it.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (24:43):
And then you hear this little piece that they can
start firing people at will, it doesn't matter, and they
can't bring them back the Democrats, they have no ability
to bring them back into the fold, and.

Speaker 12 (24:54):
We will be looking for the opportunities to do that.

Speaker 11 (24:57):
And you'd made that very clear to mister Schumer. It
doesn't to move him Russ vote. That's what I don't understand.
It will be worse. I mean if I were he,
and I'm most certainly not, but if I were he,
I would want to continuing resolution and discuss all this stuff.
I wouldn't want to hand the circular over to you.
And he'll have to take some measures that he's not

(25:19):
going to like one darn bit.

Speaker 12 (25:22):
Well, I think he's got some time over the next
several hours to come back from the brink to work
with his moderates to get a continuing resolution passed.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
This was yesterday and obviously that didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
You're fired. He's a new national holiday. Jason said, you're fired. Yeah,
well so o, Kate, what this is a good this
is a good question. The shutdown happens? What actually, like,
what actually happens? You know, because this is this, this

(25:54):
is you're just kind of a partial shutdown. What actually
shuts down? What takes place? Because your mail is still
gonna run, There's a lot of things that are gonna happen.
You probably, well, this is a funny thing. You probably
won't really feel it.

Speaker 9 (26:12):
Let's get right to Matt de Lucia and the Live
Center with the latest Matt. Yeah, guys, the countdown is
going now, and after Congress failed to pass two different
stop gap funding bills, the US government will shut down
at twelveh one AM. One of the bills, the one
that was advanced by the Republican led House, did get
three Democratic votes, including one from Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman.

(26:35):
Now in a statement, his office sent several one line quotes,
including my vote was for our country over my party,
and together we must find a better way forward.

Speaker 2 (26:44):
That's interesting. Fetterman.

Speaker 3 (26:46):
Yeah, one of the Democrats actually reasonable, He's been making
a lot of sense lightly what.

Speaker 9 (26:50):
Will be shut down. It all depends on what are
considered non essential services. But the Congressional Budget Office put
on an estimate seven hundred and fifty thousand federal ployer
will be furloughed, at a cost of around four hundred
million dollars of pay per day. Now, how about national parks.
So here's the thing about that. A contingency plan from
the Department of Interior says open air sites will remain open,

(27:12):
but buildings that require staffing.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
We're talking about visitor centers.

Speaker 9 (27:15):
We've got quite a few of those here in the
Philadelphia area. Those will likely see reduced hours or complete
closure for the time being. But critical activities like airports,
air traffic controllers, military members all have to work and
not be paid until the shutdown ends. Banks, courts they
stay open. In the Senate is a journal until ten
o'clock tomorrow morning. More voting scheduled to begin around eleven.

Speaker 2 (27:38):
Fret and Jackie.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
By the way, so again, I don't think you're gonna
even I don't think you're even gonna feel it. I
this is the this is the this is the hard
this is the hard case. Democrats that backed themselves into
a corner here Trump can fire as many people as
he wants. The American people really don't feel it. To
a large part, there's.

Speaker 2 (27:56):
Not there's no real public pressure.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
You know, really, I mean, is there no real the
public pressure to say, well, you may not get your
medicaid or your medicare all.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
That's not that's all going through. That all happens.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Everything there's you're gonna get your mail mail set up
on a different system. They're funded a different way from
the post office. Now, it really is interesting. It's just
it doesn't It doesn't impact people the way that you
think maybe it might. So honestly, it is my thought
is there is there possibility some of this at least

(28:32):
anyway is kind of set up, and maybe maybe it's
my theory. Maybe Trump doesn't mind, Maybe maybe he won't mind.
What else did Fetterman have to say about that fact?
I want to we'll get to that coming up here.
We got an after show we got to get to
as well. It is the show after the show, Fastest
Town Radio flying by yet again, it's what happens every

(28:55):

before it runs out, because it is it is rolling
that rolling that way anyway. It doesn't look like it's
gonna be good for those those folks. Look if if

(33:57):
is going to sound insane on the surface, but we
talked about it yesterday on the After Show, and I
have an update to it, and I wanted to make
sure that people knew and heard about what actually happened
the Des Moines School superintendent. If you haven't been following

(34:18):
this story yesterday we told folks on the After Show,
which you can watch live Facebook Twitter, rexs Rombill got
our locals YouTube and Justinmarkley dot com or listened to
the archive the iHeartRadio, Apple matter where you get your podcasts,
We've got it all for you. But the story came
out that there was an ice There was a superintendent
from Iowa that was placed on Leaf paid Leaf by

(34:43):
the way, by the way, which is Iowa. The guy
had worked in Philadelphia at one point, he had worked
in Saint Louis, a bunch of different places. And we
shared the story yesterday from News Nation where they went
to Iowa and did the digging and found out this
guy had a a long record of being all over
the place, plus he had weapons charges. They told him

(35:04):
to get out of the country years ago. They finally
caught up with him. There was this uproar in Iowa
about this guy, and I thought to myself, who in
the world. No wonder the schools had gone, you know where,
because they're allowing this type of thing.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
This is who's running an.

Speaker 13 (35:18):
Incredible tendant of the Des Moines Public Schools on leave.
Doctor Ian Roberts was taken into ice custody on Friday,
leading to protests within his district. Now, despite the outrage.
The Department of Homeland Security says the educator was in
the country illegally and had previous charges of illegal weapons possession.

(35:39):
Marcus Espinoza is here with more, and Marcus, I've been
talking to you about the story of commercial.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
Did she say weapons charges? The guy that's supposed to
have those, he's super intended the schools that iowa so bizarre.

Speaker 13 (35:53):
But tell us about the latest school board meeting that
happened Saturday.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Yeah, it really is.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
So we'll get with that first and then break down
everything else. So that was yesterday. It did not last
very long, only a.

Speaker 1 (36:02):
Matter of minutes, but the decision was unanimous.

Speaker 9 (36:05):
Board members voted seven to zero to play Superintendent Ian
robbers on paid administrator.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
Paid paid administratively.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Well, we found out the folks on the board, including
the former i think chief of staff from Michelle Obama.
In fact, the all female Democrat school board. By the way,
it is the board who appointed the head of the
board is former chief of staff for Michelle Obama. You can't,

(36:38):
you cannot make this stuff up, she'd tell us. We're
supposed to have radical empathy for this man here in
the country illegally, radical, not just regular empathy right on behalf.

Speaker 10 (36:51):
Of the Dowines Public school community. I want to provide
an update from district leadership and the board on the
current situation unfolding with our superintendent, doctor Ian Roberts. Before
we begin, it seems fitting to take a page out
of doctor Robert's book and ask the community to engage
in radical empathy.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, okay, this is how you get this. Guy kind
of looks like a thug anyway. I mean, you look
at the picture of the mug shot they have here.
It's really kind of interesting to me. How did he
This is how you get it? The update is this
from standand today the guy has resigned. Ian Roberts, leader

(37:35):
of the Des Moines Schools, detained by immigration agents last week, resigning.
According to his lawyers, that's good news. Will today be
sending a letter to the des Moines School Board, authorized
by doctor Roberts to resign his position as the superintendent
of Des Moines's public schools.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
According to his attorney.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Out of concern for his thirty thousand students, Actor Roberts
does not want to distract the board, education and the
staff from focusing on educating well. He should have resigned
a long time ago, he fooled around, and now he
is finding out folks. This is the era, the find
out era. Oh and it is on full display as

(38:18):
we spent practicing a little radical empathy.

Speaker 2 (38:20):
I guess.

Speaker 3 (38:23):
Incredible. A story you won't hear anywhere else. More of
it coming up in the after show, the show, after
the show, after this. We always appreciate you being here
with us. Thank you for supporting the program and keeping
us rolling fool speed. I had the fastest hour.

Speaker 2 (38:40):
Radio is out.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
The Glenn Beck program is up next him. We'll be
live from Cornerstone University tomorrow. Make it a great one.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
