Speaker 1 (00:00):
Congressman John Molnar joining us now to touch on some
of that story. But Congressman, welcome in. First of all,
I gotta I've got to just get your take and
your reaction to the massive news of this historic moment
where President Trump, it seems, is going to secure piece
here in this this area that I just they they've
had thousands of years of issues there, but it looks

(00:22):
like uh, and we're praying that it'll hold that that
we're on our way to seeing a deal made here.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Well, you're absolutely right. It is historic. It builds upon
the work that President Trump did with the Abraham Accords,
UH and building a coalition that wants to see peace
in the Middle East. We hope those hostages are returned
soon and that the violence and the destruction will stop.

(00:50):
And I really commend the President for taking on what
just seems to be a you know, never ending challenge,
but has shown tremendous leadership and working with partners and allies,
and it's moving in a very good direction.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
It really is. We are very we're very happy to
hear you know. We just we just passed the two
year mark just a couple of days ago, and to
think that these people, the hostages particularly, have been separated
from their families after everything they had to go through
for two years. It's unthinkable.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
It is, it is, and and you just your heart
goes out to the one the families who have lost
loved ones, who have not known what the status of
their loved one is. And uh, for many this is
not going to bring, you know, satisfaction in terms of,
you know, what has happened, But clearly there is a

(01:49):
resolution and sight and we're just very hopeful that, you know,
as things progress in the next few days, it holds
a significant way.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Congressman John Molinar is with us right now on the
phone from Washington, DC, speaking of progress, chipping away, trying
to get things done in what's been an interesting you know,
we spoke with the chair McLain yesterday about this Schumer shutdown,
and she brought up some interesting points. They said, you know,
on one hand, I think, if it's just the average American

(02:24):
I look at this, I think to myself, I don't
know if I felt the pain of the government being
shut down. And there's there's some folks, you know, on
our side of thinking here that would say, you know what,
that's fine. Keep the government shut down. But then I
also think about this, which is, there are folks in
the military serving overseas. There are folks that are fighting
right here on our streets to secure our borders. And

(02:45):
of course we've seen what they've gone through in Portland
and some of these other places most recently being attacked
and whatnot, and they may not get paychecks in the
very recent days ahead, and we're we're staring down that
very real possible ability right now. And again Democrats refuse
to budget on this, and unfortunately it's because they want

(03:05):
to undo, from what I understand, that big beautiful bill
and they want to give health care to a llegal immigrant.
So this is just wild for the average person to believe.
But that sounds like what's happening.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Well. And the sad thing is, you know, when you
think about in a shutdown, who the Democrats are leveraging,
They're leveraging the American people and people we rely on,
and it's you know, our service mendors, our border patrol,
air traffic controllers, and you think of women, children who

(03:40):
rely on food assistance. All of these people are being
put at risk because Chuck Schumer and the Senate Democrats
won't simply vote to extend business as usual, and they're
trying to leverage this and unfortunately people suffer because of that.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
What's the cost? Do you have any details or figures
on what the cost is of a shutdown? Obviously it
impacts the economy, It impacts the country in number of
different ways. But I've heard a little bit about this,
and I just didn't know if you had actual stats
on it.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
You know, I don't have a specific number for you,
but I do know this that it's not an efficient
way to govern. It's hundreds of millions of dollars, and
to restart the government costs money, and so you have
all these people living at risk financially. And now let

(04:36):
me just also say, you know, the Democrats are trying
to resist this idea of us taking on waste, fraud,
and abuse, and they have resisted that, and they want
to spend one point five trillion more in spending and
continue sort of the COVID era spending pattern, and that's

(04:56):
just not sustainable in the future, and so they're trying
to to inject those priorities into something that should be
very straightforward and simple. You know, we did our job
three weeks ago, we passed a clean continuing resolution, which
basically means no new spending, no Republican priorities, no poison
pills or gimmicks for the Democrats to oppose. It just

(05:19):
gave us seven more weeks to continue the appropriations process,
where the negotiations over different priorities should occur, not with
the leverage against the American people.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Got a story on the hell here we just found
a shutdown costing US economy about fifteen billion dollars a week,
according to Hassett, who's given that that number out there.
It's interesting, But you make a great point here, Congressman
John Molnar with us as we speak, you know this
is this is not something that wasn't dealt with. The

(05:52):
House passed this. And by the way, try somehow Democrats
trying to figure out a way to blame Republicans for this.
But what's would spend even more while to watch is
that Republicans have had you know, they've voted on this.
The houses voted, there was a bipartisan effort there, and
then we had in the Senate Republicans picking off a

(06:12):
few Democrats to get there. But I don't think maybe
people understand, maybe most people understand, you've got to get
to sixty votes in the Senate. That means Democrats have
to come along to make this work. And a lot
of them, as the chair explained it yesterday, are afraid
to do that because Chuck Schumer leadership there in the
Senate apparently is so afraid that they held an election

(06:36):
today that AOC might beat him and become that senator
there from New York take his seat. And that's what's
holding all of this up.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
That is a very real factor. And when you look
at what's happening in New York politics, you got Schumer
worried about, you know, a primary for MAOC. You've got
a socialist mayor of New York who you know is
kind of leading the way with the Democratic Party, and

(07:07):
you know, you have all these dynamics going on and
the only thing that Democrats can agree on is they
want to fight Donald Trump. And so all they're doing
is just trying to say we're fighting Donald Trump, and
what they're really doing is fighting the priorities of American
people and not recognizing President Trump was elected as someone

(07:28):
who would change the status quo in Washington, d C.
Get rid of waste, fraud and abuse and actually have
our institutions serve the people rather than the other way around.
And that's what this is all about. You know this
bill that we supported in the House, the Democrats have
supported thirteen times during the last administration the same legislation.

(07:51):
So what's the difference. They want to show the left
wing of their base that they're fighting.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Isn't that something? And no doubt, probably trying to raise money.
This is going to be a bit of a fundraiser
for them, I would I would think as well as
they're going about it. Hey, you've got some events coming up.
In fact, I know I'm going to be at a
couple of them with you. In fact, there's a Masquerade
ball Lincoln Day dinner happening coming up if folks would

(08:19):
like to come out and see you. Plus our good friend,
Pastor Lorenzo Sewell, who is the Millimeter Miracle guy. You
all have seen him, You've seen his work. He spoke
at the inauguration. He's fantastic pastor from Detroit area. This
is coming up on October thirty first, so a big,
big day in fact for folks to come out and

(08:41):
join in factor three counties coming together to make this
event possible, and there'll be a number of folks that
are running for various offices governor, etc. Throughout the state,
but Alligan Berry and Ionia County is doing this and
are right here in our own backyard at Bay Point Woods,
which is an absolutely fabulous destination for folks. But you
got that one coming up, and then we'll be at

(09:03):
Micosta County over the weekend on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Well, there's a lot of energy people who want to
hear some of our excellent candidates who are running statewide,
and people want to support the work that the Republican
Party is doing and leading to help get America back
on the right track. And we're looking forward to seeing everybody.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
We would love to see you as well, don't we
appreciate you being there of course, as always, thank you
Congressman Wllnar for all you did. Come back. Please give
us updates as they come out, and we'll make sure
that folks stay up to date on these stories and more.
As there's so much happened in these days. It's never
a dull moment, that's for sure.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
That's true. Thank you, justin good to be with you today.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Thank you, sir, you too. God bless Congress,
