Speaker 1 (00:00):
Our good friend, Trent. Can I be with us as

(00:02):
always to break it all down, tack into the latest
in tech and how it affects you and your world.
This is Tech Talk Tuesday on Wood Radios West Michigan Live.
Are you gonna get the brand new Trump Mobile? The
Trump Phone? And I love it? It's gold? Is it
a golden Trump Phone? I guess that. Daily they'll make,

(00:23):
you know, a bunch of different types of phones and
things like that. But big announcement Trump Family in the
phone service licensing deal touting a four and ninety night
And by the way, this is kind of how they
do things. They will license their name on things. But
a four ninety nine phone made in America, and the
service seems to be pretty affordable too, which I think

(00:45):
is kind of interesting as well. Trent, can they be
welcome in affordable Lizeto Lake Mission, drive on and stand down?
Of course? Grand River Tech is always for breaking some
of this down with us today. Trent is in the
field with the questions and the answers and tell me, I, Chris.
The reason why I think this is interesting is I

(01:05):
think there's a little bit more happening in this space
than meets the eye, and I think that Trump, Am
I gotta run out and get a Trump phone? I don't.
I look, I vote for President Trump three times, you know,
But I don't know that I'm gonna run out and
get the phone necessarily right away. Although I will tell
you right now, I'm looking at alternative phone carriers and

(01:26):
there's one that I really really like that I've landed
on that has given me sort of I'm looking a
little bit further into it. But Trent, you tell me
what is Trump Mobile? What's the plan here? And what
do you see?

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Ye morning? Justin Yes, we're going to see more of
this in the future.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
You think of you know, bitcoin, meme coins that they're
you know, spinning up all these different currencies. Digitally, cell service,
you know, the big carry the big three AT and T,
T Mobile and Verizon, they own ninety five percent to
sell your service. They are not allowed to own that entirely.
They have to by law license that out to other

(02:07):
people to resell. So Trump's got to deal with them
or his family does we should say, has a deal
with them to resell services as his own carrier, and
other people can do this too. We're going to see
more of this where people spin up their own benefits,
where they spin up their own don't plan their own policy.
They kind of have a phone or a number of
phones figured out. So something cool about this is the

(02:29):
Pricer justin forty seven dollars forty five cents a month.
You like that little spin on? Memorable. I hope that
stays that way forever, if that's a thing. And something interesting,
this is not just cell phone service, So this includes
some other benefits like roadside service and even access to telehealth.

(02:49):
So they're not just bundling cell service. They're trying to
add in some other benefits to people. And so this
is very interesting what they're doing here. They're obviously leveraging
Trump's influence in his reach and his space to provide
a cell phone service. And it's been stagnant in the
cell phone industry for years. It's cool to see different
people competing and trying to start up their own services

(03:10):
because when there's competition and then prices might come down
a little.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
You know, it is it is interesting you're talking about
all these things, and it makes me wonder. It makes
me think about what what is it going to look like?
So I told you I'm looking at an alternative phone
carrier right now. The one I've been using is one
of the standard, you know, big ones for a while now,
and it's just an arm and leg every month, and
I don't really love. You know, one of the things
I don't love is how much of that money they

(03:36):
take and put it to like causes that I'm just
not a fem that just completely opposed to. So you know,
that's that's one of the bigs. I'll tell you. This
is like, I've been thinking about this for a long
time and I just finally hit the point, the breaking
point this weekend where I said, I can't do this anymore.
Let me go look and see what's out there and

(03:57):
really start digging into this stuff. And I was almost
ready to flip the switch this weekend and get it done.
I do think there are going to be people that
are going to shop based upon their ideologies, how they
line up politically on certain things, or in any number

(04:18):
of different ways and issues, right But I also think
the technology that's here right now is going to give
us that ability to do that, probably now more than ever.
I just mentioned this starlink Elon's got this up posted
right now over on X and he's mentioning that they're
going to do starlink fifty dollars a month from anywhere,

(04:41):
and this is what it says. It literally says, stream, call,
game and work in even the most remote locations, order
online in minutes fifty dollars a month for up to
two hundred mbps. Now that's not the fastest you can get,
but that's pretty stinking fast, isn't it.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Justin, that's plenty fast for ninety percent of the average
Joe's needs. That would work just fine. What starlink's doing
justin Some people saying this is, you know, Elon trying
to get some energy going into his company here, get
some new customers.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
But that's actually not the case. Here. Starlink is deploying satellites.
You know, at.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yearly thousands of satellites. The more satellites they have, the
cheaper they can provide this service because there's no more
infrastructure there to serve people with higher speed. So this
is all part of their long term game plan. The
pricing is going to continue to go down slightly and
the speeds are going to continue to go up, and
there's tons of people using starlink. It is a great
service we have clients that are using it and it

(05:40):
works really, really good.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
I just think that this is what we're watching, is
the future of these things and the affordability of the
cell phone and let's just call it data communication, data transfer,
things like that getting cheaper because at the end of
the day, you don't know if the all as used
to sell towers, which is sell companies out, et cetera.
You can start using these satellites at some point. Elon's

(06:06):
going to be in that game, and you're gonna be
able to do that all from your phone. I think
it's going to be a very interesting time, Suzanne says,
we have straight talk. It's about forty six dollars a month, unlimited,
no contract. So with Trump Mobile you're cheaper, very similar
plan unlimited. Now is there a contract? That's a good question.
Will there be a contract involved? And I think if
if not, that's another thing that in the cell phone

(06:29):
game and then in that in that industry does drive
a lot of people in sort of to the into
the tent. Okay, a couple other big things in shifts.
All right, we talk a little bit about Apple coming
up here in just a little because we get the
full announcements from last week, and we'll we'll we'll go
through some of those coming out here in a little bit.
But this is The New York Times today. I just

(06:49):
saw this earlier on Dredger. I thought, well, that's interesting
and it kind of fits in with what we're talking
about today. It's official. Streaming is now the king of TV.
In May, more Americans watch television on streaming that on
cable and network television combined. Neilsen said, it is the
first time it's ever happened over a full month. I

(07:10):
don't know about you, but Trent, I very rarely watch
television live anymore period, and watch television at all really,
but when I do, nine times out of ten, the
service I use is all streamed anyway, and I'm just
floored with it. I love what I have. It's cheaper,
I cut the cord a long time ago, and I'm

(07:31):
by the way. I'm just I'm very very happy with it,
and I think it's this has become a thing for
a lot of.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Folks justin This is thanks to technology again, you know,
has allowed small people individuals on different platforms to create news,
to go live, to have these different social media platforms
that aren't even meant to be a news agency, but
are used in some cases as legitimate news agencies, in
some case not.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
But that's all thanks to technology.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
We don't need these massive, multi billion dollar companies with
monopolies on the content and on the cable infrastructure or
the dish in the old day's infrastructure to own streaming services.
Now anybody can get anything they want with an Internet
connected device and it's not totally owned and cornered. And
I think as time goes on, that'll be even more

(08:21):
accessible to average people to go online and get their news,
get streaming, get whatever content they want digitally as opposed
to that traditional method.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yeah, I absolutely love it. I have a favorite. If
you ever want to ask me about it, you can,
I'll tell you about it. But you know, the point is,
I think this is the area we're headed in. This
is where we're going. All right, let me ask you,
Trent about Apple. Any big announcements we see that they're
completely changing and shifting a lot of the software, the
iOS and things in not just the phone but in

(08:53):
the iPad. That with some of the announcements, anything massive
or big from those announcements last week that we need
to make sure we hit on.

Speaker 3 (09:01):
Yeah, justin So last week announcement's were mainly software upgrades,
some phone call screening, some really cool things software upgrades. Remember,
Apple didn't necessarily invent the computer. They just made it
work really well. So even though they might not catch
the headlines as having the best camera system in the
world or whatever, they do have software improvements and in
the last five or ten years, that's what has made

(09:23):
Apple really a great company. That's what made people love
their devices, that the software works great. On the hardware front,
there's been some rumors leaks since last week that are
saying they're going to completely redesign and improve significantly their
flagship computers, their MacBook Pro line of laptops. And I
don't know if that leak was intentional because the updates

(09:44):
were a little hardware light last week. They didn't mention
too many hardware advancements. But obviously Apple's looking at their
financial statements, they're looking at people want tech that works better,
that's faster, that's more affordable. And I think Apple's going
to definitely deliver the in the coming years because they've
been a little bit slow with hardware releases.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah, we'll keep an eye on it. I thought the
call screening stuff is probably some of the coolest out
of everything that I seen. People that have the iPads
love the fact that you can move the windows around now,
particularly the iPad. Many people that just love that thing.
So there's some of that cool stuff that's out there
and nothing earth shattering, But if anything that does happen,

(10:25):
we'll let you know. By the way, you ever have
a question with any of your devices, you have a
handheld or a personal device, any anything of that nature.
Affordable Eye Store dot com is where you can go
and he'd be happy to help you. Trent Lake, Michigan
drive in stand out affordableiyestore dot com. Or you got
questions for the big stuff, you know, your church, your organization,

(10:51):
maybe it's you know business. There's something along those lines
and you need protection. You need to make sure that
you're up to speed on all your IT and all
the those things. Grand Rivertech dot com is how Trent
can help you in those ways. Trent, always a pleasure,
my friend. Thank you for taking the time to be
here with us and walk us through the wacky world
to take I don't think we did anything massively AI today,

(11:13):
which is first in a long time. By the ways,
it's like the first time we've not mentioned it. But
trust me, folks, it's still there. We'll be back with it,
I'm sure next week in big fashion. Trent. Always a pleasure,
my friend.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Thank you so much, Thanks Justin, have a great day.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
You got it you too. God bless
