Speaker 1 (00:00):
By from highatop Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids. We're
talking about what matters most to you when West Michigan.
Join the conversation now at six one, six seven seven
four twenty four. At six one, six seven seven four
twenty four, it's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on
Wood Radio Now on a.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Weekend and mad It's full of surprises, some good, some bad.
We're gonna make sure we get you up to date
and preview the week. Lots lots to cover, as you
can imagine, jumping back into another hot one a day
one other details about that and the heat advisory underway
for some folks in the listing area and more. Speaking

(00:45):
of heat, things are heating up. Trump vegan massive deals,
trade deals so good even the media absolutely shocked by it.
It's all coming up in traffic.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
I'm this twenties of the day.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
You're talking about what matters most in West Michigan. And
beyond this. He's the Big Three now see speak three.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
Pilsby joined Mike Rodgers running for senat this morning Speaker
of the House here in Michigan. Matt Hall on the
line as well. It's a busy morning so let's get
to it. We're Big three, powered by our good friends
at Hartlet Home Mortgage. Dave Gataway and the team want
to help you. I refy home equity line of credit.
We've used him for all three and they've stayed this
thousands each time. Working with Dave is such a piece

(01:31):
of cake. They're faster, They're better than the big banks,
not just covering Michigan, but Florida too. I know it's
a little hot to think about that right now, but
you know that cooler weather is on the way. You
may want to pull the trigger. Car Mark well closer,
closer to January. I'll be thinking about that right It's

(01:52):
a massive deal. It's a massive maggot deal. President Trump
and a European Union announcing that of trade deal over
the weekend European Commissioner there President Ursula thunderline meeting in Scotland,
ceiling what Trump calls the biggest deal ever, a framework

(02:15):
for a trade agreement under which the US will impost
fifty percent tariff on most EU goods, down from a
thirty percent tread in exchange for the EU committing to
purchase seven hundred billion dollars in US energy on top
of that, they'll invest six hundred billion in the American
economy and buy lots of military equipment and as I said,

(02:38):
so good that even the media couldn't imagine. It just
knocked their stocks off. I'll have more on that, in fact,
the media reaction, which is kind of funny to watch
on the way this morning. Plus he's currently meeting as
we speak with Prime Minister. Maybe I'll get some clips

(03:00):
and drop in here a little bit with the UK
Prime Minister Cure Starmer. It's happening as we speak right now.
It was terror and Traverse City over the weekend. A
forty two year old man allegedly on a random stabbing
rampage instead of Walmart Saturday afternoon, juring eleven people. Six

(03:21):
were initially in critical condition, all expected to survive. Though
the suspect, identified now as Bradford James Kelly, been arrested
faces chargers including terrorism. I'm not sure on the Michigan
law to figure out what exactly that means, because they're
also seeing the sheriff in Grand Traverse County that they're
not sure of his motive right now, so it's hard

(03:45):
to understand what the terrorism. Maybe the terrorism charges would
have come from. But that is something we're keeping an
eye on. And of course there's a better story actually
inside of all of this, which I found to be
quite miraculous in itself. A former marine and several other

(04:06):
bystanders helped stop this whole ordeal. He was armed with
a handgun, let a group of bystanders who confronted the attacker.
And think, God, a good guy with a gun was there.
Who knows how many countless lies he was able to say.
We'll dig into that story on the way. And yes,
it's a heat advisory for today and tomorrow. Expect hot

(04:30):
human conditions hides in the nineties nineties. It'll feel even
hotter triple digits storms on the horizon Tuesday and Wednesday.
But the good news is, I know you can use
some good news. The good news is things are cooling off. Eventually.
We're gonna feel it too. It's gotta be nice, uh
and maybe even a little too cool for some of

(04:51):
us saying I don't know it's and they let its
a little too much and a little too cool. But well,
we'll see that relief on the way. Darling back down
here into to the weekend, join us, won't you on
the falls. We'd love to hear from you in on
the iHeartRadio episode. We get that talkback feature. All you

(05:13):
have to do is click that button the microphone and let.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
It recall Justin Now at six one six seven seven
twenty four twenty four at six one six seven seven
for twenty four to twenty four West Michigan Live with
Justin Barclay on News Radio Wood thirteen hundred and one
oh six nine a f M.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Jumping on the line with us right now to talk
a couple of big stories. Matt Hall, Speaker of the
House here in Michigan, Republican speaker, and things are really well,
they're really on the move. Since you all have taken
over speakings speak, appreciate you taking the time. I guess
first let's start with Travers City because an absolutely terrifying,
it in very tragic situation playing out there this weekend.

(05:52):
We're praying for those folks there and just so grateful
that somebody was there who was able to step up
and and the and get in between the man with
the knife and the other victims.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
No, you're right, you know you saw a responsible gun
owner step up and who is a lawful CPL holder
and yeah, and intervene and help bring this situation to
a close, but before it got a lot more dangerous.
So very fortunate he was there and acted the way

(06:26):
he did, and there were some other you know, by
standers there who helped step up as well. So it's
a terrible thing that happened, but thankfully some brave individuals
help bring it to an end.

Speaker 4 (06:37):
Quicker.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
It's so sad because, look, I know we're going to
be dissecting this, and you know, people want to jump
in politically and make commentary. You're right out of the gate,
especially if it's if it's an issue that involves a firearum.
There's a lot of times we'll see that from the left,
see this is why we need to ban this, or
we need to ban that. But one thing I know
they won't be talking about. And I think it's interesting
timing because I think Friday or Thursday we learned at

(07:01):
President Trump an issue in the Actuative order to help
folks who have mental health issues who are homeless. We
had learned that maybe this individual had a history of that.
We're gonna learn more, I'm sure the days go on,
but it's it's no surprise mental health crises in this country.
It really, it really is a problem, and we need

(07:24):
to address that. Until we actually see some of those
things really being addressed and get those people the help
that they need, you know, we're just going to continue
to see issues like this is whether it's a gun
or a knife or anything.

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, that's that's right. You see President Trump taking action,
doing what he can do. And that's something we've looked
at too at the Michigan legislature is why why is
our mental health dis im so screwed up? And why
do Democrats focused all of their attention on banning guns
and not enough on solving the mental health crisis. So

(08:02):
that's something we've been looking at and we want to see.
And you know, in the schools, right we saw last
year Democrats eliminate school safety and mental health funding for schools.
That's something House Republicans are restoring because we.

Speaker 4 (08:20):
Need more of it.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Speaker of the House here in Michigan, Republican. That hall
lots of other big things in th as a matter
of fact, making some news last week as well. Let's
talk about few of those things, because obviously I don't
think they get the credit. You all get the credit
you deserve, one man, some of these big things that
are happening behind the scenes.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Yeah, you know, we're trying to get a budget done.
Democrats are obstructing that. Before we won the election, Democrat
that if you elect a Republican House in Michigan, the
government will shut down. And essentially what they've been doing
ever since our of last year, before we win the election,

(09:02):
has been preparing for this government shutdown because they believe
it goes back to their old playbook in the nineties.
They believe that if they shut down the government and
blame the Republicans, it's going to help them win the election.
We're looking at this and saying under Governor Whitmer, the
budget has increased forty three percent. That's astounding if you

(09:26):
think about it. And so we need to eliminate the waste,
fraud and abuse. We need to set better priorities. You
saw Whitmer propose a corporate income tax increase this year.
We think she has enough money, but we need to help.
We want to help her fix the roads. We just
want to do it without raising taxes. And so what

(09:47):
we've said in this budget we need to do something different.
Whimmer is not used to. We need to set priorities,
and those priorities should be education, public safety, and finally
fixing our roads and doing it without raising taxes.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
You know what, Just imagine that? What a concept. Hey,
let's make use of the money that's there, and let's
do you know what people aren't talking about. Did we
We had a massive surplus not too long ago, and
we just we blew through it. She was able to
spend it all and there's not much left over. But
what there is is a lot of fat still left

(10:24):
in areas. I know you've been taking a look at
especially with this MEDC and the stories have been coming
out in the you know, crazy five thousand dollars coffeemaker
or whatever it was, spent twenty million dollars for this,
that and the other thing. That's where this money is
coming from.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
It sounds like, yeah, one hundreds of millions of dollars
going to the biggest, most connected corporations and donors in Michigan.
And we're not seeing one job created as a result
of these And so we're saying, let's just rededicate that
money to the road. Everybody wants better infrastructure, everybody wants

(11:03):
safer communities than everyone wants a good education system, so
that's where we're trying to direct the resources. You know,
I really applaud what President Trump has done with the
One Big Beautiful Bill, and our Congress members. We're seeing
them push back against the waste, fraud, and abuse and
the medicaid system that's thirty percent of our state budget.

(11:27):
And so putting in work requirements, education requirements, volunteer requirements
so that able bodied adults are not sitting on their
parents' couch, but they're seeking work, volunteering, or getting an
education so they can make a better life for themselves
is really going to help the federal and state budget.

(11:47):
And then finally, let's get all the illegal aliens off
the welfare system. And the One Big Beautiful Bill is
going to help us do that.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Speaker of the House here in Michigan, Matt Hall, with
the latest anything else we should be looking for, you know,
you guys are working hard, obviously to get this road
deal done. In some of these other things, these big
big projects, you guys have done such a great job
with oversight. We hear lots of good news when it
comes to election integrity efforts. Lots of good news when

(12:17):
it comes to the weaponization all of that stuff and
in these other pieces. I think these are just some
highlights that people tell me about. But anything else we
should keep an eye on in the horizon that you
want to make sure we highlight today.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Well, you're right, we're working hard on oversight. That was
something I put in place as the new House Speaker,
was giving the Oversight Committee significance to pena power and
telling them, hey, go out and find out what's going
on in government. And so you see them now they're
digging in into this DNR abuse that's going on. We

(12:50):
saw an article today about how they did some undercover
operations going after Ted NuGen and others. We're going to
rein in this weaponization of government through the DA and ore.
We've been going after the Attorney General for covering up
campaign finance issues for her allies. We're going at the
Secretary of Saint Benson to try to hold her accountable.

(13:13):
So we're doing what we can to restore oversight back
to state government. And that's what we should do our departments.
The government should be accountable and they should be spending
tax dollars wisely and following the law and the Michigan
House is going to make them do that.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
A Speaker of the House, Matt Hall, Republican here as
they've taken back control the House, lots of well, it's
a shake of and thinking a good way the way
it desperately needed it in Lansing. Thank you so much
for taking the time to be here with us today,
mister speaker. We appreciate it. Thank you, You've got it.
Always welcome and we'll have more obviously in the future.

(13:52):
Stand up tonight on that story. More than President as
we speak is to Turnberry in Scotland meeting with the
UK Prime Minister Cure Starmer. More on that coming up,
So don't miss a minute today. I think today's show
is gonna be jam pack folks, just trust me on that.
Mike Rodgers is coming up. He gets the president's full

(14:14):
endorsement last week, so you get to hear what do
he has to say about that? Questions for him six one, six, seven, seven,
twenty four, twenty four the iHeartRadio at on that talkback
feature where you can and this morning I love to
hear from you. A matter of fact, we'll check markets
about RAID. I think they're probably Yeah, Now, futures in

(14:34):
the greed so far, lots of them are gonna probably
you'll be watching these trade deals come in and the reactions.
Something to keep an eye on in the in the
time ahead.

Speaker 4 (14:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
First, we want to thank our good friends at Talent
Wealth guarding your nest egg. Look, you watch a little
bit of the roller coaster here and there with those markets,
the ups and the downs. Sometimes it's enough to make it.
It is right, maybe a little nauseous, Well, don't jump off.
In fact, you're gonna feel a lot better. You'll be

(15:07):
able to sleep at night, sleep well. In fact, and
you work with the folks at. Tell him well, Mike

you want to retire today or tomorrow or ten or

(15:27):
twenty years down the road. You're gonna feel confident knowing
that you can get where you want to go. Mike
Lester and the folks at tell him Well, they're going
to help you do that. Tell him today at six
one six six six one one thousand. That's six one
six six six one one thousand, or go online to
guarding your nest egg dot com, but do it today
before it's too late.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Focused on what matters to you. It's West Michigan Live
with Justin Barclay on News Radio MIO thirteen hundred and
one oh six nine a half am and on demand
anytime on the iHeartRadio.

Speaker 5 (16:01):
Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Monday, July
twenty eight, Time Robin Hoffman. It's a Midwesterner dot news
original story. An armed hero, a marine veteran by the
name of Derreck Perry being praised for confronting the Michigan
Walmart stabber during a dramatic showdown. Perry, who was shopping

(16:21):
in the walmart armed with a gun, confronting the knife
wielding maniac moments after he stabs eleven people inside the
store in Traverse City, about two hundred and fifty miles
from Detroit. Perry being praised for his actions, with some
even suggesting he should be nominated for the Presidential Medal
of Freedom. The suspect now facing terrorism charges. It's another

(16:43):
Midwesterner Dot News original story President Trump backing Mike Rogers
for US Senate, giving him his complete and total endorsement
on truth social Trump writing america first Patriot. Mike Rogers
is running for US Senate in the great state of Michigan,
State I love. And one big explanation point for these

(17:03):
stories and more, visit the Midwesterner at the Midwesterner.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Dot New President speaking right now live from Turnberry, talking
to the media, talking to folks there. He's meeting with
Cure Starmer. Just got a big deal announced. What with
the folks in the EU this weekend. Here's you're talking

(17:29):
about Sow's dip in for coverage. Just momtery time like this, and.

Speaker 6 (17:34):
I think that you know, I'm the first Minister should
probably focus more on his delivery in Scotland than on
his constitutional issues. And we might have a better health
service in Scotland. But at a time like this, I
think the United Kingdom is always stronger as four nations.
I think that's better for all four nations. I think

(17:56):
that's how strong Scotland is stronger.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
All right, Look, if we have anything massive coming out,
a big highlights, we'll get them to you. I think
they're just back and forth there in front of the press.
And you know President Trump likes to spent a lot
of time to answering questions. So we'll make sure we
get that phone lines real quickly. Six one, six, seven, seven,
twenty four. Samantha in Greenville call it in this morning, Samantha,
good morning. Hello, you're alive on the air. Appreciate it.

Speaker 7 (18:25):
So I just stay live in that Traverse area for
a little bit there. So they used to have an
insane asylum and they closed it, so we were all
people go. They went to wherever they could find and
they were basically just kicked out. So you turned all
these megalvations. So so now you leave all the tiles
who have who knows what conditions, and now they're everywhere.

(18:49):
Some of them are dated people. I told the video
of the man, and I wouldn't paying the terrorist. It's
more like told who has the serious mental issues? And
I also lived in California a lot, and you're home
with that mental issues. And yeah, well a very good
idea either the open several institutions to probably help put

(19:12):
there any problem.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
You know, I agree with you. I think they're aught abit.
I'm not just exactly sure how you get this done.
But I know that President Trump regularly recognizes it's a problem.
Got a lot of homeless or homeless because they choose
to be, and they've got mental health issues, and I'd
like to see him get the help that they deserve.
By the way, that left's not going to talk about
that compassion wise, President Trump has it is something, especially

(19:37):
when it comes to addiction, substance abuse and all those
other issues. He's very keen on that, and you're right, Samath,
it's something that needs to be taken care of. I
didn't see any tear. I haven't seen any manifesto or anything,
but maybe we will see that come out. We just
don't know what's ahead in the days for that man
who is the suspect in the stabbing mass stabbing in

(19:58):
the Traverse City. That also goes to show it doesn't
matter what tool you use, you can inflict violence in
a number of ways, getting down to the core of it,
getting some of those people the help they need. I
know President again, the media is not going to talk
about this today though, but that's why we did more review.
Coming up next Mike Rodgers running for Senate as a

(20:20):
Republican hill Join us next with the president's full endorsement.
Lock in back after this at nine thirty five, Moron,
what's happening coming up here? In just in moments with
the details from the events over the weak in the

(20:43):
Traverse City. We've got that mass stabbing and we're learning
more about the suspect. Although I'll tell you, I really
in the situation like this, I really like to focus.
And he's got a really it's an extensive mental health
background issue, one after the other things. And of course,
as you can imagine, there's some stuff online that he'd

(21:05):
written and suspected. I guess he thought at one point
he was he was Jesus Christ. So that gives you
a little bit of a a little bit of a
look into where his mental state was. So again, praying
for all the folks involved in Traverse City, as we've

(21:28):
got still folks in the hospital. Looks like people there
are going to survive. But just another horrific situation. But
there were some good people that stepped up, And I
want to talk about this in a little bit later
on because I think there's there's something there is more
to be said here for the people that stood up
and stood in the way between evil and fact that
those those folks, not all heroes were capes. And I'm

(21:50):
just thrilled to see some of the good news coming
out of it. Mike Rodgers extensive background in history and
law enforcement. In fact, we'll talk a little bit about
this story as well as the big announcement from the
President last week as well. He's running for senate here
in Michigan. Taking the time to join us this morning,
we appreciate it. Thank you, sir, Justin.

Speaker 4 (22:10):
It is always good to be on. Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
What a story out of Traverse City. I just start
with that in your extensive law enforcement history here, I mean,
I just I can't even imagine these people are out
for a you know, just a regular day in the weekend,
a beautiful weekend at Traverse City, shopping there at Meyer
and then a chaos breaks out in this situation. Don't
know the full motivation because we don't have that release

(22:35):
from law enforcement, if there even was one, or if
it was just a man who snapped who had had
an extensive mental health issue. But this is a problem
in America. We continue to see crime on the rise,
whether it's you know, this unchecked folks coming into the
country that we don't know who they are. We've seen
that that that doesn't seem to be the issue here
with this individual, but it does kind of strike a court.

(22:57):
We just brought this up that President Trump had made
an announcement of my executive order to help people who
do have mental health issues just last week. That might
might have been something that would have helped stop something
like this from happening in the future.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Yeah. Absolutely, justin certainly, my heart breaks for all of
those that endure this, and you know, the family stress
that comes with all of this as well is going
to be very very difficult for them, and you know,
God bless them and we'll be praying for them, and
they're kind of full recovery on this. Sometimes the mental
wounds are last a little longer than the physical wounds. Yeah,

(23:34):
from just out of the blue being stabbed by someone,
and you could tell in the video that the guy
clearly had some mental health issues, and that's something we're
just going to have to get our arms around. Social
Media makes it worse, i think for some of these folks,
and we're just going to have to have a stem
discarn review of what makes these people get to this

(23:56):
point and how we intercede with these folks a lot earlier,
and you don't know yet if it was drug induced
or other things as well. So there's a lot we
don't know. But one thing we can absolutely say without
without reservation, is that this was a mental health case
that needed to have some interdiction that didn't get that

(24:17):
it really is.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
It's another one of those sad scenarios. But I got
to ask you too. I mean, I talk about that,
I think this is one of the things that deserves focus,
but I really like to focus on the heroes. It
wasn't just the man with the the responsibly armed citizen
there who I think you know this is, this is
a narrative this way. He didn't see this play out
I think in the mainstream news as much as you

(24:39):
should have or could have over the weekend. But the
man who stepped up and stepped in Eric Perry shopping
there a marine who stood up in the in the
face of evil and danger, and who knows how many
people's lives.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
He saved, oh completely, and even the other folks that
out when he was out in the parking lot that
kind of surrounded him. Yeah, to make sure that he
didn't go off somewhere else they weren't armed, and so
you I mean that is, you know, a neighbor taking
care of neighbor in its finest form, and of course
having the ability to have someone there that was legally

(25:16):
armed that could at least bring that circumstance down, you know,
kind of take the temperature down a little bit, keep
other people safe with phenomenal And I think that just
tells you why those of us who support you know,
concealed carry and responsible gun ownership, you know, believe that
this is exactly the kind of case where that that

(25:39):
absolutely saved lives.

Speaker 2 (25:41):
Mike Rodgers is with us right now as running for
Senate here in Michigan, and big crisscross in the state,
and big news came out last week one another high
profile congressman came out and said, Bill heising, you know,
I'm not going to do this, he was thinking about
running for senate. Surely that helps sort of clear the

(26:02):
boards here. And the President Trump says and an endorsement
giving you his full and complete endorsement in a statement
last week on truth kind of clearing the way to
make things a little easier in a primary. Does that
help you down the road and Republicans in general as
Democrats kind of fight it out.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
Oh absolutely. And the last time we had a real
Democrat primary, and they are fighting it out, and they
are fighting to the left. I mean, if you listen
to the kinds of things they're talking about, embracing the
guy from New York that wants to own your grocery
you know, has the government owning your grocery stores, to
a really kind of a radical transgender ideology with one

(26:44):
and the other one who wants California to regulate our
auto industry here in Michigan. I mean, they are just
so far out of touch with actually working people here
in the state, and they're fighting it out going further
to the left. Love that. And last time that happened
was nineteen ninety four and Spencer Abraham, a Republican, won

(27:05):
that seat. So we're pretty fired up about that. Let
them fight it out. I think it's good for them
to actually expose them now. They all are trying to
say we're moderates, however, which we should be all very
very cautious self going into the election next year. But
this allows us to build our team and getting a
President Trump's endorsement. I had a good occasion to talk

(27:25):
to him last week. You know, he's going to come
to the state. He'll be a part of the state.
And if you think about the working family issues just
in the you know, the big beautiful bill, when you
talk about you know, no tax on overtime, this is
going to be a win for our state. Three million
families depend on overtime in our state. Three million now
that that money is not going to be taxed by

(27:47):
the federal government, huge, huge, huge benefit for them. No
tax on tips. For the many waitresses primarily waitresses, but
waiters as well, that they actually get to keep that money,
which is I think going to be really critical for
but not only the restaurant industry, but those people who
are a lot of those cases are working second jobs

(28:10):
to do this work so they can take care of
their family. All of that really really important. And then
of course, buying a car with you can write off
your interest on your car payment. That helps our auto
industry here in Michigan, but also helps families who are
struggling to make sure they can make those car payments.
I mean, this was the most worker friendly tax bill

(28:30):
I have seen in a very long time, and I'm
pretty fired up about it. So we get to talk
about all the good things. Democrats are fighting amongst themselves.
The President is in we have a good relationship. Imagine
having a senator that can actually walk into the Oval
office and say, hey, miss President, this is what Michigan needs.
You know, we need to get Michigan back in line.

(28:50):
We haven't had that in thirty years in the state
of Michigan. Two Democrats holding those seats, thinking the same way,
talking the same way, and voting the same way. And
they have watched our education system go down, our manufacturing losses. Well,
we can put a stop to that. We can bring
back this American in Michigan renaissance and manufacturing. I'm pretty

(29:11):
fired up about it. And that was a big week
for us last week.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Mike Roger's running for Senate here, former congressman and the
state of Michigan making that big announcement last week President
Trump with the full endorsement, and you know one of
the other things. In fact, he's there right now America's
and unfortunately me, he just does not want to talk
about this at all, these massive trade deals that are
getting done. In fact, media is so shocked about this

(29:36):
deal with the EU even they like their jaws hit
the floor. They hurt. How good it was. What does
this do for America. We've got massive moves being made
economically to bring America back on top of the world
stage and keep that focus moving forward. Yeah, and so we.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Seeded for so long our manufacturing prowess in America. And
by the way, every man ffacturing job is a middle
class job. And so every time we lose one, that
is one flop in the middle class that kind of
slips away from our fingers and so reorienting and it's hard,
it's not easy. This has been decades and decades of
allowing all of our manufacturing to go overseas. This is

(30:17):
that fundamental realignment. And so every time the President announces
one of these deals after the Wall Street and all
the others, sale can't be done, It shouldn't be done.
What do Oh my gosh, this is terrible. What it
starts to do is realign our ability to manufacture things here.
And think about it, Whirlpool, it's coming back to America.
There are increased manufacturing jobs across our auto sector here

(30:39):
across the country. Even BMW, I think, is expanding its operations.
The big three are starting to bring part supplier orders
back here to the United States. It's having real consequences
for real working families. And so if you're worried about
Wall Street, well, guess what. They don't like anything that
doesn't make them money every single moment of every single day.

(31:02):
This is going to be good for people who are
you know, working their fannies off to keep up here
in America and here in Michigan. And so I'm pretty
excited about it. Yeah, they don't want to talk about
it because this is hard, This is not the way
they would do it. And I think, listen, the more
we keep knocking these out, it's just going to be
better for the long term economic and national security health

(31:23):
of the United States.

Speaker 2 (31:25):
Mike crog is with us right now, Ronnie for Senate.
Just one more thing I want to ask, because you know,
there are some folks that have a little bit of
question and concern about what might be done reaching out
to some of the folks that didn't maybe come along
last time, they didn't vote libertarian minded, some of these folks.
And I look, I've been on the other end of this,

(31:45):
trying to make the point that if we if we
don't come together here, folks, we're going to elect another
Democrat just like Alyssa slock In. And I know that
was a super close race lifetime. What do you say
to those folks and how do we know? How are
you reaching out to say, look, we need you all
on this otherwise we're going to see another disaster elected

(32:07):
to the Michigan Senate here.

Speaker 4 (32:09):
Well, and you know, listen, I had the occasional talks
to the President and there was a couple of factors here.
One over one hundred thousand Michigan voters walked in, voted
for Donald Trump and turned right around and walked out.
They didn't vote for one other voter. You know, that
obviously hurts all the down ticket Republican races. And then
there was a band that decided they wanted to be libertarian,

(32:31):
and I don't know if they really understand what the
libertarian platform is. They believe in open borders, they believe
in no social security. I mean, I think people stopped
for a minute and thought about what they were voting for,
and I'm not sure they would have done that. But
what the President says, hey, I need some help in
the Senate. I got to have you in the Senate.
I need some help in the Senate. So if you

(32:51):
love Donald Trump and you believe that he's doing everything
he can to help America, even if you don't like
thing A or thing B, I mean, he is a machine.
I mean I was talking to him at ten o'clock
at night after everything that's going.

Speaker 3 (33:04):
On in the world.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
I mean, can you imagine that? And he was as
vement and vigor as he was, you know, all day
long on the news. So what you need to do
is think about, all right, do we send him someone
that's going to help him, that he wants to be
there and wants to work with. I think the answer
has to be yes. If we don't, if we don't
band together, we're going to send another Democrat. And again
we'll go another six years without having somebody that can

(33:27):
walk down to the White House and have a productive
conversation about what's good for Michigan. And so here's what
I've been doing, by the way, and I encourage folks
to get a hold of your local party officials or
your district chairs and you can find all that online.
We've been going and having conversations with people who had
that libertarian bent, and you know they had some issues
on the Patriot Act and other things, and we're talking

(33:49):
to him about it, and we've won a lot of
converts by having those conversations. So take a minute, come
on out, have a conversation with us. We'd love to engage.
I think most of the information that they had on
those issues was not one hundred percent accurate. And you know,
at the end of it, you can still say I
didn't like X or Y, but now I know who

(34:09):
you are and why you did it, and would would
like to go forward on all of this and so.
And by the way, just for your listeners, I supported
the big changes in the Patriot Act that Trump and
cash Betel did that that are using. They are using
that Patriot Act today. They caught the Chinese folks trying
to get biotoxins and using the Patriot Act because it's
geared toward foreigners, non Americans, and so loving to have

(34:33):
those conversations, it's been really productive and I look forward
to continue doing those. And we've had those pockets of
conversations for the last three months and we're going to
continue to do it.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
Yeah, I know you're working hard behind the scenes trying
to have those conversations. Would would you? But let's do
this again, either you know, on the radio, in a
long form podcast, or where you can answer those questions
and we can give that out to people so you
can hear because I hear your heart on it. I
just want to make sure that that people get to
have those questions answered as well, because look, folks, I mean,
I made no mistake. I've been saying this. I said

(35:04):
it last election as well. This is critical for not
just for Michigan, but for President Trump's agenda.

Speaker 4 (35:10):
We got to get this done absolutely, and the President
knows it. That's why he was almost adamant. He said,
you got to win this thing for me, and I
need some help back here. So let's I think if
we come together to do that. I think all the
all the you know, antibodies that are coming after the president,
he needs a little help back there to make sure that.

(35:32):
And by the way, which is good for Michigan because
we can I can make sure when I do walk
in there that Michigan's taken care of. That's really important too.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Mike Rogers, former congressman here running for Senate in Michigan,
always appreciate it. Rogers for Senate dot com as the website.
We'll have you back and we'll talk a little bit
more about these things and all the other news that
is that is constantly developing over the days here ahead.
Thank you, sir, appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
Thank you so much.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
Thanks Justin, you got it. We'll talk more. In fact,
well you pray. Is it a trump stelt It's a

the UK, kir starmer and answering questions for the press.

Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Monday, July

armed hero here in Michigan, a marine veteran by the
name of Derek Perry making national news as he confronts
the Michigan Walmart stabber during a dramatic showdown Perry, who

was shopping inside that Walmart armed with a gun, confronting
the knife wielding maniac moments after he stabs eleven people
inside that store in Traverse City, about two hundred and
fifty miles from Detroit. Governor Whitmer, looking to her ex
page and commenting on the chaos at that Walmart, saying
that she's in touch with law enforcement. Whitmer writs, our

brutal act of violence. I am grateful to the first
responders for their swift response to apprehend the suspect, but
no mention from our governor that a military vet armed

day there. And President Trump backing Mike Rogers for US Senate,

I will. I'm not a fan of your mayor. I

I think, you know, I think he's a friend of mine.
Ran No, I think he's.

Speaker 3 (38:20):

Speaker 2 (38:23):
That's hilarious, but I would certainly visit London. Yeah, I
don't like the mirror Cure's story. He's a friend of mine. Actually,
