We're talking about what matters most to you when West Michigan.

Live with Justin Barklay on Wood Radio Radio.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Big beautiful weekend in a lot of ways. We get
details about the latest, of course, the big beautiful bills
signed this weekend. Lots of good news, but some tragedy
too that we're gonna cover. Make sure we have the
latest out of Texas this morning. Stand with us for
the latest on that plus Elon. Elon throwing a monkey
(00:50):
wrench into the end of the next here says he
wants to start a third party. Will that be Parole
two point zero. We'll get you into.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Details coming on us, weather and traffic.
Speaker 2 (01:02):
I'm a big Stories.
Speaker 1 (01:03):
Of the day. We're talking about what matters most in
West Michigan and beyond.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
This is the Big three. Now say speak three. Yeah,
the stories, no matter of most. You're gonna be talking
about these around the water cooler, the dinner table, no
matter where you are powered by good friends at Heartland
Home Mortgage. You know you want to buy, refine home equity,
line of credit, even reverse mortgages in certain situations, you
(01:28):
may be wanting to look into all of those or
any one of them. Hint at custom solutions for every
single individual. We've saved thousands every time we work with
Dave Galloway and the team at Heartland Home Mortgage, and
I'm confident you will too. Many others who listen to
this program have as well, and they're faster, quicker, better
than the big bangs. Probably out more HHM lending dot
(01:49):
com number one. Yes, a big news coming out. The
big beautiful bills signed over the week in Republicans using
the reconciliation process to pass the sprawling package, making many
tax cuts permanent, boosting mortar and ice funding each one
(02:10):
of those, by the way alone, I think would be
worth it, and trimming welfare and medicaid the fraud involved,
minimal bipartisan effort needed. They got it done. Speaker Johnson
talking about how he believes it's going to add jet
fuel to Trump's economy. Why is that important? It's another
(02:31):
piece that makes all of this plan fire on all cylinders.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
In the actual facts. All that is nonsense, Shannon. What
we did in this bill is we made permanent the
twenty seventeen Trump's tax cuts, and that was geared for
lower and middle class Americans. In spite of everything. They
said that the bottom twenty percent of earners saw their
lowest federal tax rate in forty years.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Now we're building upon that.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
We just made that permanent, and we're building upon it
because now we cut tax over time and lips and
had more tax relief for seniors, and we're giving everybody
a tax cut. And that's going to help the economy.
It's going to be jet fuel, small business owners, entrepreneurs,
risk takers, the people that provide the jobs's manufacturers, farmers,
get assistants here and that will lift the economy.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
It's a big, beautiful weekend of President Trump's signing that
bill into law. They're on the fourth, they're life from
the White House, just ahead of the fireworks and festivities. Well,
Elon wants a third party. What's the largest individual donor
to the President's twenty twenty four campaigns say he thinks
(03:38):
it's time. What does the president say? Lally's got words
for Elon. Take a listen, not.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
Actually starting a third party.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
I think it's ridiculous to start a third party. We
have a tremendous success with.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
The Republican Party.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
The Democrats have lost their way. But it's always been
a two parties since and I think starting a third
party just hands to confusion. It really seems to have
been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I want to give you my take on this and
more from President Trump coming up here a little bit.
The good question is will this be PROO two point zero?
Of course he's not running necessarily for anything himself, and
he can't run for president he's South African. But the
question of what it really does and the effect on it,
(04:28):
we've seen this play out before. We know what's going
to happen. I think he does too. Unfortunately, elon what's
shooing it all? We'll get to it. Coming up first,
the Texas flooding. The search continues. Eighty two deaths have
been confirmed the powerful flood there washing through central Texas
early Friday morning, triggering extreme rainfall there. That flash flood
(04:52):
causing the Guadalupe River to rise dramatically, washing through camps
and in fact up one there as a Christian girls
camp for girls where they saw multiple deaths. Now we know,
as we've been reported news nations seeing thirty two deaths initially,
the dozens of children missing, Widespread rescues still underway, disasters
(05:15):
striking how many slept, catching campers and families off guard,
prompting emergency cruise to shift swiftly into rescue mode, water
levels surging more than thirty feet in some areas, Entire
families separated or swept away. At least one shop found
clinging to a tree miles downstream. The full toll remains
(05:37):
uncertain as the efforts continue today, and praying for those
folks and those families there in that entire area of Texas.
More on that now, in fact from the News Nation.
Here take a listen.
Speaker 6 (05:49):
Still missing after deadly floodwaters ripped through central Texas, killing
more than eighty people, including at least twenty eight children.
More than four hundred first responders from twenty different agencies
are in land, water and air vehicles searching through flood
ravaged areas, pulling eight hundred and fifty people to safety. Already,
we have live team coverage on rescue efforts and the
(06:09):
response from Washington as well. Let's start off with News
Nations Warheven Tura, who is live in Currville, Texas for
US this morning, I mean, Jorge, a devastating weekend. What
is it like on the ground at this hour on
a Monday morning, Hey.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Marky, good morning.
Speaker 7 (06:26):
And that's right and right now for the community here,
the reality of just how tragic the human loss is
really starting to settle in. There are still many folks
here in the community that don't know about missing loved ones.
There's still a frantic search and rescue operations involving US
Coast Guard, Border Patrol, Texas National Guard, Texas DPS, almost
(06:47):
every agency in the state, from boots on the ground
operations to tactical marine units to helicopter patrols, and for
some folks, they are now starting to lose hope.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
I just wanted to play that part so that you could.
I just want you to understand what it's like on
the ground right now. I just want you to get
a get a sort of a picture of what the
people in Texas are going through right now. And why
(07:19):
Why do I think that's necessary, Because what I've seen
already play out in the last couple of days what
have already seen happen? And this is sick, this is twisted.
A lot of this is demented. It's a sign of
the times. Unfortunately it's the spirit of the age. But unfortunately,
(07:40):
what we're seeing is the rush to point to finger,
the rush to already uh and uh unfortunately weaponize, politically
weaponize this situation and the and and really attach it
to whatever narrative some already have playing out in their
(08:04):
in their mind. Now, I unfortunately have to tell you
this isn't This isn't just reserved alarm for Democrats, folks
on the left in the mainstream media, although they are
the probably the most and the the most major culprits
(08:27):
of it. But this is also happening on the right.
I want to break down what actually happened, what we know,
what we're hearing this week in the lies that are
being told about the whole thing and coming up meteorologists.
Bill Stephen, uh, you know, for years has been a
(08:47):
beacon of UH trust science, a man who, like I
will tell you, you can ask him any question about
whether and he will be able to tell you. It
is like the rain Man of rain Man. I ran
into Bill yesterday at our big event excuse me at Newchapel,
(09:08):
the Living and Freedom event, and it was wild because
we had a little area that unfortunately for the folks
who needed rain for their lawnch didn't get rain. But
fortunately for the event, we didn't get rain largely outside
yesterday the carnival of folks that came by, by the way,
thank you. So great to see a lot of you
and get a chance to talk with folks and meet
(09:31):
folks for the first time. Yesterday. It was a fantastic
day celebrating our nation. But I got a chance to
run into Bill and I thought, goush, you know, this
is a perfect example to give you an opportunity. It's
something for you to hear from me, right And I
can tell you what I see, and I can give
you my discernment. I can give you my my wisdom.
(09:56):
I can tell you all the things that I you know,
my gut feeling on things, my sense of it. And
you know I will tell you nine times out of
ten that you know that that intuition, or we'll just
call it, like I said, discernment, that that plays out
a lot of times. That wisdom is take a step back,
(10:19):
take a moment, take a breath, get all the facts
before you rush to post something or rush to judgment.
And in this case that that again ended up being
the right thing to do, mostly because the rescue efforts
are still underway. As I just mentioned, they're still trying
(10:39):
to figure out and piecing through some of what actually
happened this weekend in Texas. There are some things that
we do though, there are some things that you need
to hear, and I'll give you a couple of them
right now. This is just this is just up the
top here, Okay, there is fantastic news. We have a hero,
(11:01):
a member of the Coast Guard. His name is Scott Ruskin.
I believe it was his first time in operation. Saved
nearly two hundred victims in the flooding. I want to
tell you his story coming up here in just a
little bit. It's one that I don't know that you're
going to hear the left talk about it all. This
young man, Like I said, I think it was this
(11:23):
first time in operation, and what a fantastic story of
absolutely stunning the miracles that we're hearing about and took
place some of the stories from the people there on
the ground, but there's lots of misinformation and disinformation going
on right now. In fact, one of them on the
(11:43):
left is this narrative that because Trump had cut all
of this Noah funding and funding for the National Weather
Service and all these other things, that you know, this
is what killed people. And look, it's already killing people.
And then they tied it in. This is sick and
twisted as you can get, folks. Then they tied it
into the big beautiful bill. See, it's gonna kill more people.
(12:05):
It's even gonna kill more people. So I'm hearing to
give you the scoop on that the AP. Now, do
we trust the AP today or no? Folks on the left.
The AP themselves reporting the Weather Service not only was
it not understaffed, but it had extra staffers on hand.
(12:27):
Warnings did go out. All of that nonsense that people
are repeating on social media just isn't real. The AP
reports the National Weather Service office in New Brontels They're
in Texas, which delivers forecast for Austin, San Antonio and
the surrounding areas, had extra staff on duty during the storms.
(12:49):
This wasn't a freak occurrence, It wasn't unexpected, but it
was easy to see why it happened. There's a reason
for this. There was a storm, a tropical storm that
really fueled all of this, and that's what Bill will
talk about from a weathers perspective coming up in just
a little bit. But I just wanted to give some
(13:12):
perspective here on the rush to weaponize every piece of information,
whether it be real or not. The lies that are weaponized. See,
the Left comes out with this stuff and there are
people vast folks on the left take it. They hear it,
and they run with it, and it will be in
their brain rev you can never correct it because even
(13:33):
if you show them that the AP is I just
showed on the screen. I literally just show the reporting
on the screen. Here about the extra staff. Here's the quote.
There were extra people in here that night, and that's
typical in every weather service office. You staff up for
an event and bring people in on overtime and hold
(13:54):
people over. Again, that's the AP reporting. But there are
people on the left that aren't going to hear this. Now,
folks on a right a lot of question about weather
modification and whether or not cloud seeting or some of
these other things. Programs may have had some sort of
play in this. We're going to talk to Bill about that.
(14:15):
I'm not going to tell you as an expert what
I believe. I can tell you that my hunch is
it was a tropical storm, and when you have tropical storms,
these types of things happen. Now, was that thing seated
where there are other things? We'll talk to Bill. He's
the expert. You don't have to hear it from me,
but we're going to talk to him. The rush, though,
(14:37):
the rush to run to the narrative, is something we all.
I don't care what side you're on, whether you agree
with me on nearly everything or not, we all ought
to take a step back. Wisdom tells us we ought
to take a step back, and we ought to pause,
especially as families continue, many of them in Texas, to
still search, desperately, hoping and praying that their loved ones
will be found alive. It's sick and it's twisted to
(15:03):
to operate otherwise, folks, what has happened to humanity? Let's
take that breath, that pause for truth, logic and common sense,
and yes, we'll do it all coming up with the latest,
the news that you won't hear anywhere else. That's my
hope anyway to give you the details on these stories.
(15:24):
All right, elon, what's he doing? What's he up to
with this third party, the American Party. We'll give you
the details of that story and more coming up in
just moments. Don't go anywhere. We're just getting started.
Speaker 1 (15:39):

Speaker 8 (15:48):
Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Monday, July seventh.
I'm Robin Hoffman. It's a Midwesterner dot news original story.
A shady twenty million dollar grant here in Michigan being
in beststigated. Governor Whitmer has repeatedly refused to discuss the
money for a donor and appointee who is under investigation
by Attorney General Dana Nessel. An investigation by The Detroit
(16:11):
News indicates the governor's office was well aware of the recipient.
A gut wrenching Fourth of July weekend in Texas were
more than eighty people losing their lives in flash flooding.
The search still ongoing for missing adults and missing children
little girls at a Christian camp who were washed away
from their bunks, and President Trump says there could be
(16:32):
a deal reached between Israel and Hamas negotiations ongoing in
Qatar as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin net Yahoo is scheduled
to visit the White House.
Speaker 5 (16:41):
I think there's a good chance we have a deal
with Hamas during during the coming week pertaining to quite
a few of the OSAs.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
Thanks to the folks at Talent Wealth cutting your nest
egg dot com powering the program on a daily But yeah,
what's going on with Elon? Let me give you the
scoop on this the third party nonsense and more coming up.
Take a look at the market's futures on the signing
of the One Big Beautiful Bill and everything else that
happened this weekend. Down just a little bit, down about
(17:24):
one hundred in the red. And that's they're falling slightly
as besince there's several trade announcements are ahead. By the way,
they got lots of that coming. I would imagine that
that is the preparation for Hey, get ready, we're gonna
run up kid when they get some of these these
(17:47):
trade deals announced in the news here momentarily talent wealth.
No matter where you are the roller coaster ride, you
just won't feel the ups and downs, the craziness, the chaos,
the insanity of it all. If you planned talent wealth,
Mike Lester and the team will help you do that.
Whether you want to retire today, tomorrow, ten twenty years
down a road team of experts standing by to help
(18:08):
you get that customized strategy. At six one six sixty
six one one thousand. That's six one six sixty six
one one thousand, are go online to guarding your nest
egg dot com. But do it now before it's too late.
That way you'll be able to sleep at none. All right,
So Jason says, Elon is frustrated. He worked his butt
off exposing waste. Then they pass a huge bill full
(18:28):
of waste. There was no way to take some of
that stuff out of this bill. There was no way
to do some of the things that they really wanted
to do. There was no way to do some of
the defunding that they wanted to do. And by the way,
I think Elon's a smart guy. You should know better.
I think he does Actually, I think this is about
something a lot bigger, and I'm not sure exactly what
(18:50):
it is. President Trump seems to believe it has to
do as I mentioned earlier, with the with the electric
vehicle credits. Not the credits well that too, but also
the mandate coming out that no longer green pipe dream
stuff is going to be in there like the Democrats had.
So what is Elon trying to do? Shoel this third party? Well,
(19:12):
Ross Perot two point oh you remember what that did
got Bill Clinton elected. These third parties they serve on purpose,
and that is to elect Democrats, now Republicans in the
Republican Party. They're not perfect, but you know what happens.
This is what happens. There are folks on the left
who are blatantly on the left. He's are communists, these
are Marxist. You're starting to see that in New York
City in a couple other places. But these kind of people,
(19:37):
they're never going to be peeled off of the Democrat
pretty said, what about the moderates, Well, Trump's already done that.
Trump's already pulled those people out of the Democrat voter base.
He's brought him into the magabase. So what is Elon doing?
Why is he doing it? President Trump mentioned this over
(19:57):
the weekend, starting.
Speaker 5 (19:59):
A third part I think it's ridiculous to start a
third party. We have a tremendous success with.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
The Republican Party.
Speaker 5 (20:07):
The Democrats have lost their way, but it's always been
a two party system, and I think starting a third
party just adds to confusion. It really seems to have
been developed for two parties. Third parties have never worked,
So he can have fun with it, but I think
it's ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
Yeah, so why is he doing it? A lot of
people talking about the Eve, those credits, things like that.
I think there might be more to it. I think
it actually might have a little bit more to do
with AI, And it might take me a time to look, like,
really develop this theory and walk you through it. I
might try to do that a little bit later on
during the after show today or maybe even tomorrow, but
(20:45):
I wanted to lead, at least, at very least make
sure that we covered this so that you heard this story. Now,
Trump's got a big statement out over on truth as well.
We'll try and read through some of that coming up
here in just a little bit. But first we got
to grab her bottling our headlines. Markets set to open
soon too, and Bill Stephen meteorologists Bill Stephen joining us
coming up in just moments to break down what happened
(21:07):
and the breakdown they're in Texas over the weekend, doesn't it?
You know, it really is sick and twisted to see
what some of the folks are saying blaming President Trump
for storms in Texas and the flooding. I saw even
Rosi O'Donnell mentioned this, or she's a celebrity. I've seen
(21:27):
people all over action Twitter, and a lot of things
that we're hearing their saying have been debunked by now
here's some of it.
Speaker 9 (21:35):
And what a horror story in Texas, the flash floods
in Texas, the Guadalupe River, fifty one missing, fifty one dead,
more missing children at a camp. And you know when
the president guts all of the early warning systems and
the weathering forecast abilities of the government, the results that
(22:00):
we're going to start to see.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
She's absolutely wrong on a number of levels. Some of
this have already broken down for you this morning, the
AP reporting that there were extra staffed at the National
Weather Service, as is the custom there in that area.
Over the weekend, wanting signs and signals and sirens and
all that flood warnings and watches and all that went out.
(22:25):
So I wanted to do two things, because number one,
it's not just the left. I'm seeing some of this
and folks on the right too. I wanted to give
you a chance to ask questions but also hear the
truth about what actually happened from somebody I trust. I've
got my own gut instinct and discernment on this, but
I thought, why not bring in the expert of the experts, meteorologists,
(22:47):
Bill Stephan, somebody who I have trusted and we all
have for many years. Bill, appreciate you being here with
us today.
Speaker 4 (22:54):
Good morning, Yeah, good morning everybody. This was a horrible situation. Obviously,
we're kind of immune to that here in West Michigan
because we live in an area that really doesn't get
a lot of disasters. You know, it's flat, so we
don't get a lot of flash flooding here like they
do in Texas, where they have the hill country and
the ground bakes out in the summer sun and you
(23:15):
really get a lot of water getting into the streams
very quickly. We don't get earthquakes. We don't get volcanoes
here in West Michigan. About the only disaster we had
for so many years was the Detroit Lions. But the
disaster down in Texas is really something. It's related to
a tropical storm, as many of our strong floods are
here in the US. This was tropical storm Berry, which
(23:37):
made landfall down near Tampico, Mexico, and moisture from net
came up into Texas.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
All right, So let me wait a minute, Bill, let
me let me pause you for a second, because what
you're saying is very important. I didn't even hear this
or now this when I first started hearing the details
about what happened with the flooding there. But there was
an actually there was a tropical storm named Berry. It
hit in the like in an area there in Mexico,
and then that moisture made its way up into that
(24:04):
area in Texas.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
Right, And this is nothing unusual. This happens, I mean,
a classic example this Hurricane Katrina. Back in two thousand
and five. There were eight hundred and thirty six fatalities
her with Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area, and
most of those were caused by flooding and not the
strong wind. So keep that in mind. This is not
(24:28):
something that hasn't occurred before. And of course we had
all the flooding in western North Carolina a couple of
years ago from Hurricane Helene, so that's something that we've had.
But I want to give you a little timeline of
what went on in Kirk County down there with the
National Weather Service. First of all, a flash flood watch
was issued for Kerr County shortly after midnight. One of
(24:50):
the real tragedies is that this has happened at night
and a lot of people went to bed, and you know,
we're not aware of what was being issued. But the
flash flood wash called for isolated rainfall amounts over ten
inches and that's an exact quote. And then a flash
flood warning was issued about an hour later as the
heavy rains commenced, and that flash flood warning said, quote
(25:15):
life threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, and rivers is likely.
A flash flood emergency was then issued at five thirty
four for Kerr County and the Guadalupe River. The National
Weather Service responsible for this was in Austin and San Antonio.
Normally they would have two meteorologists on duty on a
(25:36):
typical night. They had five on duty that night, so
they were not understaffed. The five were there all night.
It was planned. It was extra staffing that they had
called in, and they had noted that this event was
similar to events that occurred on the Guadalupe River in
nineteen ninety eight, nineteen seventy eight, nineteen thirty five, in
(26:00):
nineteen twenty one, and again this was a moisture coming
up from Tropical Storm Berry, which is pretty much nothing
tropical storm when it comes to wind, but of course
had that heavy tropical moisture that came northward up into Texas.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
Well, let me ask you, because this is some of
the things that I'm saying for and these I think
some of these questions people can ask. Now, some of
the things I'm saying on the left are very just
just just really sick what I'm saying, But.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
Some of the questions are wrong. I mean, Rossie o'donald
is not a meteorologist, doesn't know what she's talking about.
I mean, the plane is simply put. I mean that's
the facts. Yeah, and there's a number of different things
we're going to have to look at here. You know,
first of all, is it a problem with the high
number of false alarms? You know, and this is true
(26:49):
with tornadoes as well. When we have you know, umpty
and tornado warnings being issued and no tornadoes happening, then
people get lulled into a sense of complacent and see,
and they might not react when we have a more
serious situation. So we need to make sure that our
warnings are tailored for area, for times when there really
is a significant threat.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
That that is something I think that folks are gonna
we really should at some point talk about, you know.
But I'm just saying there are people We played a
report this morning from these nations that continue to talk
about the search and rescue efforts that are underway. There.
There are still people that are hoping and praying they're
going to find their loved ones alive somewhere. And this
is just still have So that's you know, we'll do that,
(27:32):
I'm sure at a time down the road, and that'll
be fair to do too. But one of the questions
that I do want to ask Bill Steffen's here with
us right now, as a meteorologist. There are people in
the right that're asking and I think their right to
be concerned to ask questions about a lot of this,
whether there's weather modification or experimentation, cloud seating, those sorts
(27:53):
of things. Is it possible that any of that had
anything to do with exacerbating this or what happened.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I don't nor do what I mean, you can look
the past events, like I mentioned the events of nineteen
ninety eight, seventy eight, thirty five, and twenty one. It
says not something that hasn't happened before. I think one
thing we need to look at is making sure that
a camp or something like that has a no weather
radio or cell phones programs, so that if there is
a flash flood warning of this type that's issued by
(28:22):
the National Weather Service, that they are able to be
awakened during the night and then take action and move.
You know, it's not all that it's not impossible to
take people at you know, at at twelve forty one
when the watch was issued, or at you know, five
point thirty four when the flash flood emergency was issued,
(28:42):
then moved people the higher ground. Very often when we
have tsunamis on the oceans, it usually isn't too far
that people have to move in order to be on
higher ground and say from the tsunamis. So people need
to hear that alarm on their no weather radio or
their cell phone. And Andre Loud, I don't know if
(29:05):
you haven't, if you've heard it, oh yeah, you know
we phone tornado warning, that's gonna wake up.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
We've got a And we've got to your point that,
you know, because cell phones can go down at times
in different times of weather. But we've got one of
those no weather radios in the studio and every week
they test it and it goes off and it goes right,
and it's usually right in the middle of I'm recording something,
I'm talking to somebody and I say, hey, it's okay,
we're not being rated. That's just the weather tests. So
(29:32):
but but that's a whole other situation that I think
people have gotten away from that. Those are those are
important to have. You They probably don't need it nine
times out of ten, but the one time you do
what it really comes in handy.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Right, And we need we need to look at where
we put you know, sleeping quarters at camps like this
for instance. You know, maybe we need to move them
to higher ground and not hit them down closer to
the water. Maybe maybe maybe there's no way to do that.
Maybe maybe that's the problem too, that we need to
do that, And then people need to have a plan.
(30:06):
You know, if all of a sudden you're asleep and
all of a sudden you hear the tornado siren going off,
you need to be able to in a minute or
two take action that will improve the safety and maybe
save your life.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Bill Steffan with us right now. Maybe alogists too, We've
trusted for years, and I thought Bill, as a you know,
a legend in West Michigan, the nobody better probably to
really walk us through and describe what happened, you know,
this weekend, and give folks an opportunity to hear it.
So from what I'm what I'm hearing you saying is
that this has happened before that would lead you to
(30:40):
believe that there wasn't anything fishy in this particular situation.
Then that doesn't mean we might not find out something later.
But at this sort of thing, jumping to conclusions doesn't
do anybody good at this point, because this is something
that's happened before, right.
Speaker 4 (30:57):
And keep keep in mind that the Weather Service office
down there again had extra staffing. They normally have two
people on duty, and they had five that night to
deal with the flooding event. So it's not like they
were this was unexpected. They expected a significant flood in
the Guadalupe River. Now, the Weather Service doesn't know where
everybody's sleeping. They don't know where every you know, boy
(31:17):
scout a girl scout camp is and where everybody might be.
You know, it might be that we need to to, uh,
you know, have a bake sale or a car wash
or something like that and raise some money for an
extra siren in places where people are going to be
susceptible to something like this.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
Bill stephan with this right now, Hey, what about you
know they so many people just jumped to politicize this
in one of the comments was even trying trying to
tie it to the the big beautiful bail President Trump
signed into law this this weekend. What about what we've
heard about cuts to the National Weather Service or no,
(31:54):
As you mentioned, there were extra people on staff. But
are you concerned about any of those those places receiving
cuts in the future, that that that that maybe either
these reports would get would be be an issue or
or the accuracy.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Well, I haven't read the big beautiful bill, and I
would I mention some of the people that voted on
it didn't read it either, or didn't read all of it.
But I'm not really up on what what specifics were
cut related to the Department of Commerce of the National
Weather Service. I doubt that they would severely reduce staffing
to anybody that's important scene. And we don't know what
(32:34):
where the cuts are. Are the cuts to you know,
you know, critical you know, forecasters, or are the cuts
to people that are just taking you know, PowerPoint presentations
to the Roady Rotary Club or something like that. You know,
I don't I don't know where they're at.
Speaker 2 (32:50):
Well, and to your point, Bill, I don't think I
don't think there's any actual cuts in this bill. I
think these are things that people have said previously executive orders,
and they've sort of made this fear mongering patch that
you know, all these areas that people are going to
be they're going to die because it cuts to different areas,
and I I just wanted your personal opinion on that.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
Yeah, one more thing I might want to add it is,
I'm sure some of your listeners will remember the big
flood of twenty thirteen on the Grand River and Grand Rapids.
That was a twenty five year flood. So every twenty
five years we should see a flood similar to that,
and that is part of nature. Now we have paved
over a portion of West Michigan, and that means that
(33:33):
some extra water gets into the rivers that might not
have been in the rivers, you know, back you know,
in the eighteen hundreds or something like that. But you know,
we're we're susceptible to flooding here in West Michigan too.
And one person that I really credit is Dwight Eisenhower
who developed the Interstate Highway system and insisted that the
(33:55):
bridges over rivers with the interstate highway system be well
above the one hundred year floods. If you look in
Grand Rampids, if we had a flood similar to nineteen
oh three, nineteen oh four, or nineteen forty seven forty eight,
we would lose most of the bridges in town. They
would be flooded and impassable, like the Fulton Street Bridge
and the six Street Bridge and all that. When we
(34:19):
have of an interstate highway system, you know, the bridges
for the interstates. If you look at one ninety six
downtown or ninety six up you know in Comstock Park
up here. Those bridges are way high above the river,
and no matter what type of flood the Grand River
would have, we would still be able to cross the
(34:40):
river at those two locations. You wouldn't be able to
take the Fulton Street bridge, but you would be able
to take I ninety six and I ninety six across
Grand Rampids here and Eisenhower, by the way, also insisted
that there would be a median in the highway system
so that we could land a helicopter. There was flies
in case there is a flutter, a tornado or something
(35:02):
like that. It's you know, searchers, you know, emergency personnel
could be plucked down in a specific area very quickly.
So hats off to him for doing that.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
I got to tell you, it really is interesting to
get the latest on this, and Bill, we may have
you back on as things come out to talk more
about this. But obviously answering these questions, I think people
really enjoy being able to hear that perspective. And we've
gotten away from so much, so much happening on social
media and people that just don't know commenting on these things.
(35:38):
And then you've got, I think, in the various part
where people are trying to use every little piece of
news and including tragedies unfortunately in this case, to benefit
themselves in their political clauses and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
In the narratives right, infinite fortune, situation and those type
of things happen. I mean, we do get volcanos, floods, tsunamis,
e earthquakes. That's part of nature. And keep in mind
in this event again, we had a flash flood watch
at twelve forty one, We had a flash flood warning
at one fourteen. After they had a flash flood emergency
was issued at five point thirty four, and the National
(36:12):
Weather Service had three extra people on staff that night
that we're dealing with the flood. So that those are
the facts.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
Yeah, and by the way, undisputable. You even got the
AP coming out with these pieces of information. So need
to know this stuff so that you can have these conversations.
And thank you Bill for again the details today. So
folks just wrapping it up, may want to get you
one of those emergency weather radios to have. Make sure
(36:41):
your cell phone in case of emergency, you're all charged up.
And ready to go. But those those radios are going
to wake up even in the middle of the night
or early morning hours like they had experienced. There built
great information and have a plan.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
You know, in the event that a happens, what is
your response. You know, if we have a tornado warning
three o'clock in the morning and you wake up, you know,
make sure you've got a safer place that you can
run too quickly.
Speaker 2 (37:06):
By the way, I got a special, just special guest
here on the chat says hi to you, someone named Marie.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
I think you'll recognize.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Yeah, well, appreciate you. Thank you so much, Bill, Thank
you for taking the time, and thank you for your
service all through the years here in West Michigan. We
really do.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
Yeah, long time everybody.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Great to see you this weekend too. There you go,
Always a pleasure, Bill stefan Man, what a what a
fantastic conversation. Sometimes you just got to cut through all
the noise and get right down to it, the truth,
logic and common sense. No shortage of that these days,
more of it. Just a warning coming your way.
Speaker 9 (37:49):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (37:49):
In just minutes, we got to talk about this latest
report in the FBI, and the dog quietly overnight dropped
some bombshell on and this is this is not's to
say Jeffrey Appstain in that whole case. I don't know
if I'm it or on. We'll just briefly give you
(38:12):
the details coming up in just a moment's deadline. We're
the truth.

Speaker 8 (38:23):
Here are your headlines from the Midwesterner this Monday, July seventh.

keep illegal aliens here in Michigan on Medicaid. A shady
twenty million dollar grant here in Michigan being investigated. Governor
Whitmer has repeatedly refused to discuss the money for a

Dana Nessil's office. An investigation by The Detroit News indicates
the governor's office was well aware of the recipient. A
gut wrenching Fourth of July weekend in Texas for eighty
two people killed in flash flooding. That number expected to
go higher water in some spots at thirty feet. The

Back cat it. Thanks to mentality powering the show today
and every day. The truth that'll fight for it every
day is important and we need you men in the
fight to be the best husbands, the best fathers, grandfather's,
the best showing up and you're calling on a daily basis.
And if you you've got low testosterol levels, chances that's
(39:50):
not happening. Your edge. You used to have the energy,
the strength to drive. It's fading and it's not your fault.
In fact, testosterol levels and men have dropped every generation
and normal ranges they say, they lie. There's a reason
why over twenty thousand men have come to mentality. It's
because normal doesn't build legacies, and we need you to
(40:10):
build those legacies. We need you to be extraordinary. That's
how we make this country what it used to be
and even greater in the days to come. Become the
man you used to be and even better live longer.
If you've been waiting for a sign, this just might
be and nothing's going to change unless you do. Go
(40:31):
to mentalityhealth dot com slash radio. That's mentalityhealth dot com
and take your life back because you're important. As I mentioned,
we need you in the fight today and every day.
Mentalityhealth dot com slash Radio. Okay, coming out, it's a
(40:52):
story that is perplexed a lot of folks in flat
Glenn Beck talking about it. I don't understand this. Uh.
I've invited the Attorney General, Pambandi and Cash Metell Dan
Bongino on to discuss. Hope someone takes me up on
the offer. He's referring to the story that came out
yesterday the President's Justice Department, the FBI concluding they have
no evidence that Jeffrey Epstein blackmailed powerful figures, kept the
(41:15):
client list, or was murdered, according to a memo detailing
the findings obtained by Axios. Now you buying it, then
it's my question, and I look, I feel the same way.
I don't know about this, and Glad, I think put
(41:36):
it perfectly. I'm gonna talk about that. We're going to
get into a few more of the conversations. There's some
really good things that happened over the weekend too. We'll
take the time to share with you in in moments
on our after show that happening next the show after
the show, Folks don't go anywhere, God bless trust passes,
(42:03):
usually a trust pass against us.
