Speaker 1 (00:00):
Victory Monday here on Colorado's Morning News. A huge night
for the Broncos yesterday, taking home that win and promising
that spot in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
As great and it was a beatdown, if you will.
We knew the Chiefs were only going to play some
of their number two guys, but still, a thirty eight
nothing win in the NFL is nothing to sneeze at.
And joining us now with from the Broncos, of course,
the Broncos color analyst Rick Lewis, and of course, hosted
the Rick Lewis Show on one of three five of
the Fox. My friend, how great was that?
Speaker 3 (00:27):
You know? I got to tell you it was. I'm
not exaggerating one of the best days of my life
for several reasons. I got a chance to do some
play by play.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Which I love.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I got to hear that at.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
The beginning of the game event and let me explain that.
The reason because the Broncos were honoring Kwa in their
one hundredth birthday and they wanted Dave Logan to plant
the flag just before kickoff, so Dave had to leave
the booth, so I took over and did about ten
minutes of the pregame leading up to that day, plants
(01:00):
the flag and then he had to come back to
the booth, so they kicked it off. I probably called
six plays or whatever, and then I noticed he gets
in the booth, comes up behind me, he sits down,
puts on his headphones. Next play, Marvin Mims gets a touchdown,
and I'm like, Dave, really, that's just who Dave Logan is.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Man.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
He's the man, He's a legend, you know, I said
during the broadcast, he's Batman. I'm Robin, you know. So
I had to go back to being Robin again and
let Dave take that call. But it was this classic. Also,
my family was there yesterday. My grandson five years old,
somehow made his way up to in front of our
booth and fist bumped me. Fist bump Dave. Nick Ferguson.
(01:47):
It was just a great day yesterday. And Broncos are
going to Buffalo for the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
What a cool experience, What a loud stadium yesterday, What
a great experience for KOA celebrating one hundred years. And now,
like you mentioned, OK, moving forward, we're looking at this
what does this week look like for the Broncos prepping
for Sunday's game, Well.
Speaker 3 (02:06):
It's going to be cold, but I don't think it's
going to be much different than it was yesterday here
in Denver. I looked at the forecast over the weekend.
It's going to be about twenty twenty one degrees. It
doesn't look like there's any snow in the forecast as
of now. I mean, these guys have to be so pumped.
You know, it's been a long drought for this football team.
(02:26):
They have about twenty four hours to celebrate that Gina,
and then they get to work. And the best thing
about this for this team, this a young team. They're
playing with house money in this situation. They don't have
any pressure going into Buffalo. Nobody's expected them to be
in the playoffs, nobody's expecting them to beat Buffalo on
(02:48):
the road. All the pressures on Buffalo, and so Broncos
can just go out there and play football and you
never know what's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Naivete actually is probably a gift here for the Bronco
because you don't know what you don't know with a
young team with rookies, you know, again, no expectations. You
can just go in and let it loose. Having said that,
a lot of talk. Gena and I were in the
press box, not much talking going on there, But then
when we made it down to the suite and there
was a lot of talk saying, look, Buffalo's scary, but
it's not like the Broncos can't move the ball. And
(03:19):
the key is it is anytime you play Buffalo is
how do you slow on? Josh Allen?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, and I think this is a better matchup for
the Broncos than playing the Ravens. I much rather would
play Buffalo in Buffalo. Go back to last year, Broncos
beat Buffalo in Buffalo with Russell Wilson at quarterback. So
they can beat this Buffalo football team. Nobody's expecting them
to do that, but as I mentioned, they're playing with
(03:44):
house money. They can just go and have fun play football.
And the longer they hang in that game, the more
the pressure builds on Buffalo. And sometimes when pressure builds,
that can force some mistakes. And so I'm just excited
to be able to do this, to be able to
call that game, and you never know, Broncos could surprise
(04:05):
everybody on Sunday afternoon.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Nacerers can say whatever they want about Okay, well the
Chiefs didn't play their starters and that's why we win, yea, YadA, whatever.
But when you just look at the Broncos side of it,
what did you see yesterday that said, yes, this is
a playoff earning team.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah. Well, they came out, they started fast, they were
sharp from the very beginning. They were I mean, and
bo Nicks played historically one of the best games ever
played by a quarterback, and especially a rookie quarterback. He
had I believe he had a perfect passer rating in
that game. Four touchdowns and no interceptions, only three incompletions
(04:41):
in the game. At one point he completed eighteen passes
in a row. I mean, so he just played his
best game at the perfect time. And all these guys,
this young football team, they're young, they're hungry. They gained
a lot of confidence yesterday. I don't care who you're playing,
it's the National Football League. These guys are all National
(05:01):
Football League players, whether they're starters, twos, or threes. And
I don't care who you are. Broncos showed up yesterday.
They took care of business, did what they're supposed to do.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I don't have to tell you the Broncos only predicted
to win five, maybe six games this year. Our social
media question was this morning, are you surprised that the
Broncos made the playoffs? Are you, my friends surprised that
the Broncos made the playoffs?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
Yeah, I would say I wouldn't go as far as
to think I thought they would make the playoffs. I
thought they were gonna win nine games. Okay, I did
predict that, and I said ten if everything goes well,
and when you win nine or ten, you typically have
a good shot at the playoffs. And it worked out
for this team this year. That five and a half
over under the Vegas set the beginning of the year,
(05:45):
that was a slam dunk for everybody.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Said the Broncos had the worst roster in the NFL.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
Yep, and we knew that wasn't the case. Everybody underestimated
this football team, and mainly because they had a rookie quarterback.
Nobody thought much of bon Nicks minute. He proved everybody
wrong and.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
What a cool experience of him running around the entire stadium.
At the end of the day, everybody man, Garrett Bowles
planted the flag in the end zone.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
You know, I feel really, really good for Garrett Bowles.
We both came into the league at the same time
and both of us have paid our dues, him in particular,
and it's got he's got to feel so good.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, you're gonna be calling your first playoff game. How
great is that? You know?
Speaker 3 (06:27):
I can't believe it. Man, It's a dream come true.
Like I said yesterday, one of the best days of
my life.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
And you know what, it would be cool if it
were here in Denver, but Buffalo, since they love their
football there, that should be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Oh man, it should be great. Yeah, they have great
fans there. The weather looks decent, typical you know, January
football weather in Buffalo without the snow, I hope. But man,
it's going to be a.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
Great day again. The Broncos taking on the Bills in
Buffalo Sunday, kickoff at eleven o'clock our time. Like Marty
likes to joke, we don't know when our coverage.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
From it might start.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yeah. Francos color analyst, host of the Rick Luis Show
on one oh three five The Fox. It's Rick Luis.
Thanks Rix, I love you guys.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
Happy New Year.
