Speaker 1 (00:00):
Now in Colorado's Morning News. Broncos game starting off strong yesterday,
the Broncos landing a touchdown at the very start of
the game against the Bills, but that's all they could muster.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
They end up losing thirty one to seven to the
Buffalo Bills to end the season, and it was the
first playoff appearance since twenty fifteen. Broncos sideline reporter Susie
Origin was there to see it up close and personalized.
She has all year and she joins us now in
the KOA Common Spirit Health hotline. Susie, I would imagine
after that first touchdown, the sidelines must have been just
jacked and excited.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Oh my gosh, yes, and good morning. It was one
of those things where we thought, Okay, we like how
this is going. We've gone down on the very first drive,
got a touchdown, Troy Franklin and bow Nicks finally connect.
This is our day. And then you know, really throughout
the first half it seemed like this was going to
be going pretty well and stay a pretty tight game.
(00:48):
And then, as you've talked about this morning, I mean,
the second half was just an entirely different story and
everything got away, all the things the Broncos wanted to do,
they just weren't able to do yesterday, Susie.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
A lot of people are talking about Letsa's missed field
goal there at the second or going into halftime and
into the second half. Does that really change the environment
going into the locker room? Did you feel a sense
of almost a deflation of going into it because it
would have been tied. Sure, but there is a lot
more in the second half that wasn't just due to
that field goal.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
I mean having it be a three point game at half,
for having it tied at half, there's not a whole
lot of difference there. Yes, do you want it to
go in so you can have that tie? Yeah, But
the Broncos still we're going to come out on defense,
so it's not like they could do anything right off
the bat in the third quarter. So I don't think
it's that big of a deal as much as time
of possession. That time of possession for the Broncos, I
(01:41):
think it's eighteen twenty three eighteen minutes twenty three seconds
is the lowest they've ever had since at least nineteen
eighty three. You cannot win a football game having that
lopsided of a procession time.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, if you don't have the ball, you can't's hard
to move it can score.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Actually unless your defense is going to score.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yeah, since we was talking about since you're there, you
get the sin to the team in the mood as
things started to not go to the Broncos direction towards
the end, at least, my sense is they seem like
a very unified team and maybe because they realized, hey,
this is really for this team at this point now expectations,
it's not just great to be here, but realizing there's
work to be done. Did you get that sense of
the team where there was it's less about being disappointed
(02:17):
about like, hey we did some things, now let's get
back to work for almost next year.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
Yes.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
Absolutely, And that was definitely the you know storyline in
the locker room afterwards where they were like, hey, we
you know, we got here, Now we know what we
need to do. I chatted with Jonathan Cooper quite a bit,
just even off Mike, and he said, you know, we're young,
and now I.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
Know I know what I need to do. I need
to be better. You know, these guys need to be better.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
So yes, there was definitely that feel I could tell,
and I did a report on this towards the end
of the game, that defense was I mean, they were spent.
They were out there so much and that especially in
that second half, and they were really, you know, they're tired.
I looked at that line and they were just you
know kind of they were. They were tired, and it
wasn't that they were I mean, yeah, they're down. They
didn't win the game, but you can't have a unit
(03:02):
out that long and expect them to keep performing in
a way. You know, that was similar to what they
were doing at the beginning. But definitely the line from
them afterwards, where they've got open locker room today, we'll
go over at noon today and hear more from them,
was now we know what we need to do in
the future. This is a bigger stage and we will
be better.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
So see what similarities and differences have you seen from
this year compared to past seasons just overall for Broncos country,
the fan base, the camaraderie of the team, what kind
of has changed in the past.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I think what Marty just mentioned, that unified group that
they've had unified you know units in the past between
offense and defense, but it is really different. It's a
very close team, which then makes you think, okay, so
what changes will be made. Who's going to be brought in?
They have to make some changes. They've got to do something,
you know with the running back situation, another weapon as
(03:50):
a wide receiver, tight end, you know, and on defense
as well.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
So who comes in?
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Are they able to still kind of keep that tightness
and you know, with with young teams and guys that
are successful, they may go someplace else. So it'll be
interesting to see the changes that are made. Can they
keep that group, keep that culture? Is that something Sean's
going to be able to do, So it'll be interesting
to see that. But that's been the biggest change this
year I think is just really their their band of brothers,
both in offense and defense and collectively as a team.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Gina went exactly where I was going to go, and
I was going to ask more specific, what evolution have
you seen in the sixteen seventeen weeks with this team
beginning to end? But beyond that too, what evolution have
you sensed or maybe felt from Sean Payton and the
coaches there on the sidelines in this season.
Speaker 4 (04:32):
Yeah, that's an interesting question.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
You know, Seawn has always won, and you guys just
played his SoundBite of taking the blame.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
You know, I need to do better.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
I need to do you know, the things they wanted
to do, run the ball, control the game clock, the
things that they didn't do. He will take the blame
for that. So I think that he's understanding more. I mean,
I saw, you know, when Bow knicks through that incomplete
to Marvin Mims, and when he came off the field,
Sean kind of had his hands up and he was
saying something to Bow and Bo was saying stuff right
(04:59):
back to Sean, which is always interesting to see. I
can't hear what they're saying because there was so much
crowd noise at that point. And then Sean came back
over and was talking to Bo on the bench, which
he doesn't do very often. So I think they're figuring
each other out. That's only going to get better, and
I hope that those kind of evolutions continue. And again,
just like players, we may see Davis Webb, who's the
quarterbacks coach for Bo, that does a great job with him.
(05:20):
You know, he's getting talked about for a bigger coaching
job elsewhere, maybe even a head coach. So those things
will will you know, those changes will make a difference
as well. So you hope that we can continue to
get people in to build on what happened this year
that nobody expected to happen.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
So we have Rick Lewis's grade, we'll get Dave Logan's
at seven forty nine this morning, Susie, what letter grade
would you give the Broncos season for this year?
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Well, for the season, you know, I want to give
him a B really, maybe even a B plus of
just being able to improve, do better than they had before,
go beyond expectations. There were some A moments and then
there were some CD moments, so you kind of I
think a bee.
Speaker 4 (05:58):
What would Rick give him? I wasn't up.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Then we did, right too?
Speaker 4 (06:00):
Yep, oh we did? Okay, all right, nice. I'll be
curious to see what Dave does.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah, Gina, what grade should we give Susie for her
work this year?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
And a plus? Plus?
Speaker 3 (06:08):
Plus plus is always fun here.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
It was fun.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
We look forward to catching up with him more about
anything else. We'll always love having you on regardless of
the topic. But great work this year, and.
Speaker 4 (06:20):
We'll miss you guys on Monday morning.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
Yeah, in the and they'll tell you what. Bronco's future does.
Look very bright, just not saying that. I think that
they just need to get more of the right pieces
and they're head in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Agreed, yep, totally agree.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
All right, Thank you Susie, Thanks Susie.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
All right, you bet. Thanks guys,
