Speaker 1 (00:00):
Of course, we will face challenges along the way, but
just like Colorado, our spirit will remain resilient.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
State District Representative Shannon Bird, that's District twenty nine has
announced You're running for Colorado's eighth congressional district.

Speaker 3 (00:15):
And joining us now on the KWA Common Spirit Health
Hotline to talk more about our campaign.

Speaker 4 (00:19):
Is State Representative Bird? Thank you so much for your
time this morning.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yes, absolutely, thank you for having me on this morning.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Explain a little bit of your experience.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Why you decided to enter this race that will be
likely again a very highly competitive race.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Yes, I'm happy to talk about this. I'm running to
represent CB eight because our Colorado families are being squeezed
by rising costs. I've been watching what's been happening to
our economy through the tariffs that have been put in place,
the trade wars that have ensued, how costs are rising
for Colorado families for everyday cost of goods, the impact

(00:55):
to our businesses, infrastructure projects, continued investment in our state.
And when I saw this, I couldn't sit back. I
had to get involved. So here i am.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Your district is one of the most proportioned districts constructed
and written in many ways, people feel it should be
that way. It's kind of fifty to fifty. So if
you're out talking to residents in your district about running
to me, I would get the sensor looking for a
modern or a centrist. Is that something you would bring.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
I think that what this district is looking for is
somebody who will bring common sense values back to the district.
Someone who's going to show up and listen to them,
hear what their actual concerns are, be present in the community,
and then take that voice to fight for real solutions.
In Washington, DC, I'll point to a place where that's

(01:44):
not happening right now with our current representative, Gabe Evans.
I'm so disturbed to see the vote last night that
just happened on the President's package that will slash Medicaid
benefits for one in three Colorado's living in the eighth
Congressional discs. This is devastating. That vote. As a matter
of fact, it was two hundred and fifteen to two

(02:05):
hundred and fourteen. Representative Evans was the deciding vote to
take one in three Coloradens off of access to their
healthcare in CD eight. That's what our voters are looking
for someone who will speak up for them, to send
them and stand up to this president and make sure
we're responsive to the people of the district, not to
the current administration.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Say Representative Bird, If you were in that position for
that vote on the One Big Beautiful Bill, is there
anything that you saw in it that you would show
your support or did you fully oppose it in its entirety?

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I would have to say that in light of its
impact to so many vulnerable choleraadens and what it means
to people having access to their healthcare, I would not
have supported that bill. There's very little that justifies a vote.
I don't think anything that would justify a vote to
take one in three people off of access to their
healthcare coverage.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
What is the one specific issue that your constituents are
what your potential constituents are telling you in the eighth
what is the number one issue that they're most concerned about?
Because we hear about all the time, whether it's immigration, border, cost,
but is there one you can narrow down say this
is the daily impact that they think about most of
the time and talk around that kitchen table.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Absolutely, it is cost of living and Trump's pair of
taxes are having a direct impact on that right now,
making the cost of everyday goods more expensive for everyone.
Something else that comes in as a close second, I
would say, is the erratic decisions coming from this current
administration and their impact on stock market. There are so

(03:37):
many people who are hoping to retire and had that
in the horizon, whether it's in the next year or
two years, and now looking at what's happening to their
four oh one case or those who have pensions and
seeing the value of those assets just taking a literal
nose dive. People now don't know how much longer they're
going to have to remain in the workforce and how

(03:57):
they're going to have to change life long plans. People
have hoped to retire and now that's not a possibility
for a lot of hard working Coloradens.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Stay representative burden.

Speaker 3 (04:07):
Wrapping up with you, you mentioned a little bit of
someone who brings common sense values. Aside from that, before
you get to Congressman Gabe Evans, you would have to
beat Democratic candidates first, So do what do you believe
you bring to the table that is different from former
Congresswoman Ndrakiravo and state Representative Manny Ruttnell.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Absolutely. I will say I respect everyone who has the
courage to put their name forward and stand up for Colorado.
But what I believe is different about my candidacy is
that my record fighting for hard working Coloradens and delivering
real results for lowering housing costs and healthcare costs through
the bills I have run. I've worked to fully fund

(04:46):
public education and have worked in tangible ways to support
small businesses. My record speaks for itself. I have already
done the work and delivered real results for people in
our state.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
She is currently the rep the state rep for District
twenty nine. She's th ruined her hat in the ring
to be the congressional repro district date. It's Shannon Bird.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
Thank you, thank you so much for having me.
