Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gina Gandak and Chad Bauer Inframarti Lens on Colorado's Morning News.
A federal judge now blocking the deportation of the Pearl
Street Mall attacks suspects family despite visa violations.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Mohammed Solomon being officially charged for the attack later today. Solomon,
his wife, and their five children are all Egyptian citizens.
His visa expired in March. Joining us now on the
Kawa Commons Spirit Health Hotline with the latest is Fox
News Radio is Evan Brown. And before we get to
the immigration proceedings, Evan tell us a little bit about

(00:30):
the vigil that was held yesterday in Boulder.

Speaker 3 (00:35):
Well, it was a vigil that, as you can imagine,
people came out to show their support or to be
heard the Boulder County Courthouse where this attack happened, right
in front of that courthouse. It was specially illuminated last
night for this event. And look, there were one lady
who would normally attend the weekly marches of the Run

(00:57):
for their Lives marches. She said that she thought her
own feet were on fire, just to realize that a
woman standing near her was fully engulfed in flames, and
she fell down to the ground. Other people ran to
put those flames out, try to help save that woman.
They probably saved her life. She is severely burned, of course,
but alive. But you know, you expect to see these

(01:20):
types of ceremonies when these things happen. They're good for
the community to try to heal a bit and move
past and show some support, especially for you know, in
a situation like this where one group of people were
specifically the targets Evan.

Speaker 1 (01:36):
Before we talk a little bit about the suspect who
will be in court later today, when you spoke with
some of those who were there when the attack happened,
I know the Run for Their Lives organization is planning
another walk this Sunday. Are they planning to be there.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
I can't tell you if they're planning on being there
at the court today. But look, you know this group
has made it very well known that they want to
continue doing what they're doing, what they've been doing since
they first organized these events that Run for Your Lives
or Run for Their Lives events, you know, back in
October of twenty twenty three, after the Hamas attack in
Israel where these hostages were taken. It should be noted

(02:15):
that there are still hostages being held, even though the
Israelis early this morning or late last night were able
to recover the bodies of two US Israeli hostages, American
dual citizens American Israeli citizens. They were elderly people that
lived in Kibuts Niros and they were taken by the
same Hama subgroup as the Bebas family, the mother and

(02:38):
the two young children who were later identified as dead
and had their bodies returned. So this is still a
very personal matter for a lot of these people, Evan.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Earlier this week, Ice took the family of Solomon into custody.
Tell us what a court has now ruled in.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
That situation, Well, a judge. It's a federal judge there,
I believe in Denver has taken a lawsuit from the
family that was set to be deported, saying that the
family is saying that they shouldn't be responsible for what
their father or husband has done, and so he has

(03:16):
put a temporary hold on their deportation. There is a
hearing set for the thirteenth, which is a week from tomorrow.
But the federal government has a specific case here that
this family has overstayed or violated terms of visas, and
that they can be removed because of that without having
to try to prove any crime. This isn't considered necessarily

(03:38):
a criminal matter for them. It's simply a visa matter.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Do we know if this can change or if this
means anything differently for the suspect, Well, I.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Mean, I don't think it means much for the suspect.
The suspect himself, who over state a visa, is also
now charged with crimes, will be formally charged later. As
you mentioned in the Colorado State court, he's facing federal
hate crimes charges as well. He's looking at more than
three hundred years in prison if they assign the sentence

(04:14):
potential sentence in consecutive terms. He's never going to see
the light of day again and therefore probably won't see
his family much either.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
And is it common Eben in cases? I mean, this
of course is very high profile. But if a person
in the country illegally is accused of a crime, has
ice been targeting family members of other situations like this
or does this seemed to be kind of a unique one.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Well, it's unique in that we don't have too many
terrorist attacks in this regard, But if there are people
who are in the country illegally who have committed crimes
that can be prosecuted, and I'm thinking mainly in the
form of things like drug running and human trafficking, then
the US government may have an interest in pursuing that

(05:01):
matter through the criminal courts. But in other cases they
have been looking to just simply deport and repatriate people
who have been known to have been criminals that were
in the country illegally. They've made a great partner with
El Salvador in this regard to send El Salvadoran gang
members back to El Salvador for them to be imprisoned

(05:23):
there in what has turned out to be a very
infamous prison. So, you know, I think that they take
this case by case. But in this situation, we are
dealing with an actual terrorist who is confessed to being
an adherent to an ideology that is dangerous not just
simply to Jews, but to Americans very specifically. Of course,

(05:46):
Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood make it part of their
charters and their chants not just death to Israel, but
death to America and death to Christians specifically. And so
you know, the US government has an interest in in
prosecuting this terrorist and putting them away in prison for
a very long time.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
We'll continue following the latest as the suspect in the
Boulder firebombing attack will be due in quarter round three
point thirty later this afternoon, Fox News Radios, It's Eppen Brown.
