Speaker 1 (00:05):
Oh Man, thank good enough for Earth Winding Fire. We
do this because the next person we're going to talk
to you spent thirty five years on KOA and he
loves earth wind In Fire probably as much as I do,
and doesn't seem a day over thirty four years of service.
If you will, our own Dave Logan has been a
recognizable voice for decades here in Denver and Colorado, and Dave.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
The voice of the Broncos joining us now on the
KOA Common Spirit Health Hotline. Dave, that was Marty's choice
of music, so hopefully you approve of that. I had
no say in that by any meats, Dave. When we
talk about thirty five years, does it feel like it
flew by or does it feel like it was?
Speaker 1 (00:40):
And indeed his thirty five.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
It feels a little bit of both, to tell you
the truth, and anything with the Earth Winding Fire I'm
good with. But no, listen, I have said it. I've
had a great, great job. I've been very blessed in
a lot of different ways, and looking forward to looking
(01:07):
forward to continuing.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I was gonna say looking forward to another thirty five.
I was waiting for you to say that that would
be that would be great.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
You know what if I could, if that it could
actually happen, I think that that would work. That would work.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
What was your first show and role here on ko.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
So the the play by play voice of the Broncos,
Bob Martin, who was a guy that I listened to
growing up. He was unable to call the Super Bowl
in New Orleans when the Broncos lost to the forty
nine Ers.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
That was the that was the.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Fifty five to ten game, and so he could not
do that game, and then later in the spring he passed.
And so when I was hired, I was working another
radio station and I had a non compete, so I
could not do I could not do talk radio for
the for any talk show for the football season. So
(02:10):
what I did was I did the Bronco games in
nineteen ninety and then I actually also because at that
point the radio station KOA had the Nuggets as well,
So I did every single Nuggets game with Jeff Kingry
in that nineteen ninety season, which was, by the way,
one of the worst Nuggets seasons in the history of
(02:31):
the franchise. So there weren't many wins in that season,
and there were a ton of games.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Well, luckily you were able to call a lot of
Broncos wins during your time as well. And the Broncos
put together that short documentary, The Voice of the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
They posted it on their X page.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
It's really incredible to see you recommend all KA listeners
watch it because you'll hear and know a lot of
the voices and the phases in it. But Dave, when
you watched that and you heard from some of your
co workers, some incredible sports legends, some of your former coaches, teammates,
how does that feel? Is that a weird moment?
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Is it cool to see your You're very humble person,
so well, is it like having that put together?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Well, you know, Gina, I appreciate that. It's honestly, it's
a little weird. I remember the first time. The first
time I watched that, I had to make sure that
I that I had not died, right. I'm thinking, well, wait,
this is the kind of thing when when somebody passes
you you sort of you sort of do this. But no,
(03:34):
I I was honestly, I was hesitant when the Broncos
first approached me about doing that, and I declined, and
then you know, they they thought it would be a
good idea, and to their credit, they did a great,
great job. A lot of footage, uh in that whatever
you would call it that I had never seen some
(03:55):
of the stuff at SEU, I've never seen some of
the stuff with the Browns I had never seen as well.
I was very humbled and very appreciative of a lot
of people who took time to add to that thing. So,
you know, it was it was surreal and it was
it was very well done, much appreciated.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
How has Denver changed in those thirty five years, David?
In many ways? How have you changed since starting thirty
five years ago?
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Well, I mean I'm definitely you know, Marty, you've stayed
the same. You haven't aged a bit. I mean, I'm
definitely older, There's no no doubt about that. I think.
I think what I in terms of in terms of
being the voice of the Broncos, what has struck me
is even even over the last few years when there's
there there have been some some down times, there have
(04:43):
been some teams that struggled to find a way to win.
I think the love affair, the passion that Broncos fans
have for this franchise, whether you live in Denver, whether
you live in a surrounding area, whether you live somewhere
in the Rocky Mountain region. I mean, there is so
much of infection and genuine love for this franchise that
(05:04):
that has never really waned. I think you could sense
a frustration level from time to time, but I think,
I mean, this is a football town. I'll due respect
to the other sports, and it has been that way
since the Broncos started playing in nineteen sixty and I
think that doing games for thirty five years, that has
been very, very.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Apparent to me looking back at the thirty five years,
What is the one moment that maybe comes to mind
first when you think about it?
Speaker 3 (05:34):
Oh gosh, you know, Gene, I don't. I don't know
that I would have one moment. I think from from
broadcasting Broncos games. I think it would have to be
Super Bowl thirty two. You know, they had not been
successful in Super Bowls and during a time out in
(05:54):
that last couple of minutes, it just drugged me. You know,
they're too many. It's away from when when a Lombardi Trophy,
and I think just the magnitude having grown up in
Denver and having seen the frustration and experienced it as
a Broncos fan, annoying exactly as I said before, what
this franchise really means to the people here? No, it
(06:17):
was was that was a cool moment, and that moment
can never be duplicated because that was the first time
they were able to finish the deal.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Final question, David. Something that people always ask me when
they meet Well, they always ask me, hey, you work
with Dave. What's he like? And I always say the
same thing, he's really tall. No, I say he's great,
you know, collaborative, fun, hilarious, insightful, all those things. But
then the follow up question they always ask me is
and I'll ask you how much longer do you tend
to work? And so, not to put you on the spot,
(06:49):
but what do you think about that?
Speaker 3 (06:51):
I love how you asked the question, and then of
course you qualify it by saying, not to put you
on the spot. Very good at this party, No, listen,
I I don't have a time table on it. I
do think that you probably want to leave, maybe a
(07:11):
little early. What nobody wants to do, or I won't
speak for everybody. What I definitely don't want to do
is stay to the point that people are saying, God,
Lee man, I mean, he's you know, he's he's ready
to go. Can we please? Can we please move on?
But I feel good, you know, been blessed, as I said,
And as long as I feel like I can do
(07:33):
the job and do a good job and that people
enjoy listening to the games, then you know my intent
would be to work for another couple handfuls of years
and see where we go.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Head to the Denver Broncos YouTube page. You can see
the I guess you can call it documentary, whatever you
want to call it. Dave, I know it's weird today
the voice of the Broncos. Go check it out. It's
very very cool. Dave Logan, congratulations on thirty five years.
Cheers too many many more. Thanks for letting us be
a part of it and joining us as always. We
really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
Oh, I appreciate you guys. Thanks
