It is Colorado's Morning News. Martylends Ginaganda. Good morning. It could
be a match made in heaven, the powerful NBA veteran Russell Westbrook alongside three
time League MVP Nicol Jokich. Yeah, it's the question everyone's asking. Could
the Denver Nuggets pick up Westbrook fromthe LA Clippers, And if that were
to ever happen, would it bea good move? Well, joining us
now on the KWA Common Spirit HealthHotline now Nuggets play by play caller for

(00:22):
Altitude TV and the National Sports MediaAssociation's Colorado Sportscaster of the Year. It's
Chris Marlow. Chris, thank youso much for your time as always,
Hey, thanks for having me on. Hey, walk us through a little
bit of this potential. What doyou think are some of the pros and
cons of if the Nuggets added Westbrookto the roster. Well, he's a
dynamic presence, He's an electric athlete. He see a driver, a slasher.

(00:50):
He's a kind of personality quite frankly, you want to have on the
second team if he's not a starter, a guy that can come off the
bench. He's been up and downthe last couple of of years in terms
of teams. I didn't think heplayed well when he was with the Lakers,
but I thought he played really wellwith the Clippers. Clippers had one
of their best second units in theleague. So I would think if he

(01:11):
comes to the Denver Nuggets, hewould bringing a kind of a dynamicism,
a dynamic aspect to their bench.A guy that can run, who can
jump, who can fly. He'sa really good rebounding guard, one of
the best rebounding guards in the league. He's not a great shooter. We
all know that, but if Nicolawants him, I say, let's go
get it. He's a triple doublemachine. What Westbrook he plays sometimes I

(01:36):
like to say with the fury ofa thousand suns as well. But you
kind of alluded to it, Chris. Do you think he would fit within
what the Nuggets are doing within theirsystem? Well, it's funny. Everybody
that comes here, he seems tofit pretty well. Obviously, Nicola yokus
U's the hub, and when hewould play with Nikola, he would have,

(01:57):
you know, lots of opportunities toget over the shots in the basket.
I think you would see more ofa running second unit when Nicole is
in there or with Murray, youwould see more fast breaking with the Nuggets.
You know, they need to figureout what they're going to do behind
Jamal Murray. Now, if theydo have Jalen Pickett, who was a

(02:20):
draft pick last year, he didn'tplay very much, but I know he's
a favorite of Calvin Booth and wentto the same school, Penn State.
And I think we're going to giveCalvin Booth. They're going to give Jalen
Pickett every opportunity to shine in summerleague, in preseason and see what he
can do. That being said, you'd like to have the veteran in there,
either as a starter or as abackup. I like the idea of

(02:46):
Russell Westbrook. He would give theteam a jolt. Is there a little
bit of a baggage? Yeah, but you know you're getting a Hall of
Fame player, a Hall of Fameplayer who's been there back, and I
think it would be a good edition. Chris, let's talk about some of
the moves we've already seen so far. What have you liked and what are
you questioning right now? Well, the Nuggets officially have not made a move.

(03:12):
They have not made a move. They lost Contavious Callwell Pope, and
that was unfortunate because he is aterrific player, you know, all defensive
type player, and on the openmarket he just commands a lot of money
because he is a three and Dspecialist, and for whatever reason, the
Knights did not did not see fitor could not bring him back because of

(03:35):
the salary moves and the second apronand all that money stuff that I don't
really understand. So that's going tohurt. But they do have Christian Brown,
who I think is a plug andplay player right now. I think
Christian Brown can do a lot ofthings that Knavious called Well Pope can do.
The one the one drawback. Iwould safer for Christian Brown being in

(03:57):
the starting lineup. Who's going toguard Steph Curry, Who's going to guard
Jamorrow? The John Morant, thosethose small, smaller, quicker guards.
I know Christian can guard like Hardenand bigger players Kwi Leonard and things like
that. But I'm wondering, ifyou know, uh Kntavi's cow Pope every
single night would go out, hewould take the toughest guy, maybe he

(04:19):
was five ten or six to twoor six' five Tavy's call Pope was
your man. So that's that's theone thing I think defensively the nice you'll
have to figure out he's Jamal Murrayup to Guarden All Star guards. We'll
see when he comes back from theOlympics, and maybe maybe that's a task
and something he can work on.But it's gonna be a lot of change
with the Denver Nuggets, and Ithink at the back of the roster is

(04:42):
where you're going to see a lotof interesting stuff. They drafted Doron Holmes.
Uh, this is a young kidfrom Dayton six nine six' ten
wingspan for both shoots really good.I think he's going to be an excellent
player. And then they have tofigure out Ken Julian Strawther step into the
role for Knave's call Pope. Canhe be a backup? And what about
Hunter Tyson who was a star inSummer League last year. He played really

(05:05):
well in the preseason and then didn'tget played much during the regular season.
I still think he had good potential. You know, he's a big,
strong guy who could shoot the ballreally well, and I think he's going
to be in the mix also,So lots of questions for the Denver Knightets
going into this season so far Nuggetsplayed by play caller for altit TV.
It's Chris Marlow. Thank you,Chris, Hey, great thing on.
