Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is Colorado's Morning News, Marty lens Gina Gone Decade Morning.
The Broncos finishing the preseason unbeaten again for what that's worth,
as they beat the Saints twenty eight nineteen on Saturday
in the Big Easy Bonix, completing ten or fourteen passes
for one hundred and ten yards and a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, and the Broncos conclude the preseason at three and zero,
opening up the regular season at home against the Tennessee
Titans coming up on September seventh, and joining us now
in the KWA Common Spirit Health Studio is Broncos color
analyst and host of the Rick Cluis Show. On one
of three five in the Fox, It's Rick Lewis. Hey, Rick,
good to see you back. I like having you in
the studio again. It means because we're Broncos. Season's al
(00:34):
ready to roll.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
It's here already. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
I'm back from the swamp in New Orleans almost eight
alligator almost.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
I hear it tastes like chicken Friday Night. That's what
I've heard too.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
They had it on the menu at the restaurant, because
you know, you're in New Orleans, and I couldn't get
anybody on.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Our crew to try.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
Really, I was going to order it because it's an appetizer,
blackened alligator. Nobody was on board, so.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
I tried it with you.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I bet you would have, Like, why wouldn't you at
least try it? Right?
Speaker 5 (01:02):
Do you like New Orleans?
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Have you?
Speaker 5 (01:03):
I know you've been before. Do you enjoy it? Is
it your vibe?
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I'd like the culture and the people. Other than that,
the city's kind of trashy. Yeah, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
I've been there.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
I kind of say a little bit. Yeah, the food
is amazing.
Speaker 4 (01:17):
There's a lot of things to like about it, but
that the city itself is not that great.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Talk about what it was like broadcasting at Caesar Super Dome,
because I saw your photo and it was pretty funny.
Your guys as a set you had in order to
visit these small.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
So the stadium is fifty years old and any and
you can feel that when you're inside. So we had
a really small booth and for some reason, the chairs
in the booth were like kids chairs, and the counter
was really high. Daves six', Five i'm six. Three neither
one of us could see over the. Counter we could
not see the field sitting in these, seats and so
(01:53):
The New Orleans saints, broadcasters which are right next to,
us they're radio, guys said they had to buy their own,
chair oh my, god to put in their booth because
they couldn't do it. Either and so we ended up
sitting on stacks of printer.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Paper for four. HOURS. Es it was. Crazy oh, man
it was a weird. Weekend what did you see on the?
Speaker 5 (02:17):
FIELD i watched a good portion of the. Game what
did you see that maybe stood out to?
Speaker 1 (02:20):
You.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
Uh one thing That i'm a little a little worried
about is do The broncos really have a running. Game
they've had a tough, time it seems, like establishing the
running game consistently here in the off. Season but what's
really noticeable about this football team is they are loaded
(02:43):
with young, talent almost like they have too much young.
Talent they're going to have to cut some really good.
Guys the depth on this team almost every position is
just really, remarkable and so that's a good. Thing that's
a good problem to, have and you're going to see
some good guys get cut here today and. Tomorrow BUT
(03:04):
i think the defense is. Elite they could be one
of the best defenses we've seen in a long. Time
the offense is still a bit of a work in,
progress BUT i do think they have the weapons and
the potential to be a good, offense AND i think
this is going to be a good. Season it's going
to be, interesting it's going to be. Fun will they
win more than ten? GAMES i don't. KNOW i don't
(03:25):
know if this translates into more, wins but they're a
better football team all, around and we'll see how it plays.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
OUT i was back home In michigan over the weekend
and even My lions fans are, Saying, man That broncos,
defense that's what everyone's talking about right, now.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
All around the. League everybody's talking about.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
It But, rick you talk about the roster cuts and
how challenging that's going to. BE i, mean is there
anyone that you think is going to be a big.
Surprise obviously it's all, hearsay it's all rumors right, now
but going from ninety to fifty three players in the
next day or, so, well the big.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
Surprise was Trading Devon, veley which happened over the world,
weekend a guy they really. Liked he had a really
good rookie, Year so that was a, surprise but that
shows you the depth they have at the wide receiver.
Position all these young guys just waiting for their, opportunity
so they were able to make that. Move same thing
in the running back. ROOM i wouldn't call it a big,
(04:16):
surprise BUT i feel Like Audric estime is not going
to make this. Team fifth round pick last year From Notre,
dame and they had high expectations for. Him he's still
only twenty one years. Old somebody is going to pick
him up if The broncos wave, him AND i believe they.
Will other than big, SURPRISES i think you're going to
see just a lot of talented young guys not make the.
Speaker 5 (04:36):
Team you were always were you a fan Of?
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Estimate didn't you always like?
Speaker 4 (04:39):
HIM i liked him last year AND i thought they
would use him in power situations near the goal line
because he's that kind of. Guy but he didn't show
like he was last, year like he was really that.
Guy he was hesitant to hit the hole hard and
it kind of wanted to take everything outside and then
(05:00):
he fumbled and then he kind of got derailed last
year on the depth chart and never really came back from.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
It we're going to be asking this question as our
pole question for days and days to, come because it
will continue.
Speaker 5 (05:12):
To change as we're looking at the end of the.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Preseason, now way too early prediction for The Denver broncos this.
Season DID i hear you say ten second?
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Ago? YEAH i think, ten maybe? Eleven ten or eleven
right in that. Range how about, you?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
GUYS i would think so we you, know not only,
wins but the question, too does that enough for them
to win the?
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Division probably. NOT i think you're going to have to
win eleven games to win the. Division maybe twelve ten
could get you in the, playoffs.
Speaker 5 (05:43):
And that's the point where The broncos are. Better but
the whole rest of the, divisions oh my.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
GOODNESS Afc, West, yeah all hall of fame head coaches
or Future hall of fame head coaches and a ton of. Talent,
yeah THE Afc west is going to be, very very.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Tough how much do you read into preseason BECAUSE i
know a lot of people get over hyped About, okay
we're technically undefeated in the, preseason but then that comes
about you and the butt later.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
On you know, what that's a great. Question put that
up on your.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
Board god Fend, okay, sorry it is notable.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
That The, broncos they are ranked the number one defense
and number one offense in three preseason. Games that is,
Notable but keep in mind you're mostly playing year twos
and threes and, fours AND i think one of the
reasons they were number one offense and defense is because
they're two threes and fours are better than everybody in the.
(06:32):
League they, dominated starters struggled at, times but they were only,
playing you, know a series or. TWO i don't think
there's anything to be worried about going into this first.
Speaker 5 (06:43):
GAME i want to come full.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Circled and then what we talked about BECAUSE i kept
hearing about the Dep we hear the depth about the
linebackers on the defensive, side then we heard about the
depth in the running back. Room but you said you're
concerned about actually whether or not we have a running.
GAME i find that a, bit a bit of a,
conundrum a bit if that's these it.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Is, yeah you, know they built this team to run the.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Ball they have a good offensive line that they invested
a lot of money, in and they brought in a
good running BACK.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Jk. DOBBINS i THINK.
Speaker 4 (07:08):
Rj harvey has a chance to be a special football,
player but he's unproven, still and the guys behind, him BEHIND. Rj,
harvey those guys are all. Unproven SO i BELIEVE. Jk
dobbins will be the starting running back in week.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
ONE.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Rj.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
Harvey they probably hope he wins that job somewhere along the.
Way they should be able to run the, ball but
you have to commit to running the, ball and they've
yet to do.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
That Broncos color analyst and host Of The Rick Lewis
show on ONE o three Five The.
Speaker 5 (07:36):
Fox It's Rick.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Lewis.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Rick it's nice to have you back in the studio.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
Again there's a whole lot MORE i can tell, you
but it will have to be off the.
Speaker 5 (07:41):
Air we've Got we've got weeks of.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
THIS i can't. Wait, no, man me.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
Too all, right good to be, Back good to have you.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Back
