Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gina Gondeck, Marty Lenz, Colorado's Morning News, All the Broncos
handed their first loss of the season and a tough
take two field goal Denver falling to the Colts twenty
nine to twenty eight to Indy and.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Joining us right now in the KA Commas prior to
health hotline, It's koa Broncos Radio Network sideline reporter. It's
Susie Warden. How is that plane ride back, Susie? With
everybody after that, yeah, it was a.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
Little on the quiet side. I think we all expected
something different going into Indie, and boy, the way that
thing ended, it was it was really devastating. More so
not even the plane ride as much as the locker
room was very down. And I mean it was just
that Shotka. I had, you know, flashbacks to what happened
in Kansas City last year when everybody just is jumping

(00:42):
on the sidelines because we could see that that field
goal was going to be short. And then suddenly I
hear in Dave's ear because I'm trying to get ready
to do my interview flag on the play, and I'm like, no, no,
so yeah, and then guys just went and sat on
the bench and watched the other one go through.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
I mean, listening to Dave and Rick, it was fast
to hear them say, we don't know what this call
is yet when they were looking at what actually took
place on the field with the leverage call. You being
on the sidelines, could you tell anything that took place there?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
No, because, like I said, I didn't even see the
I could see the ball going up in the air.
But I was right behind the bench because at that point,
if we win, I get an on field interview, and
so I was tracking Marvin Mam standing right behind him,
getting ready to basically climb over the bench to go
try and grab him when we won, which didn't happen.
So I couldn't see any of the place. So I
was relying on Dave and Rick in my ears to

(01:34):
know what was going on. And I think it was
just one of those stunning ones. And Dave had the
great stat about, you know, three thousand plus field goals
and it's been called fifty times. It's just one of
those where, man, does it have to happen on a
game winning field goal like that at that time and
it gets called at that time?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I don't know, Nick Benito, after the game, I tossing
his helmet. He was obviously not happy hitting the field.
I'm sure on the sideline to post that that was
the sentiment of a lot of other guys that or
maybe just possibly even shock.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Susy, oh, both, Marty. I mean, it was one of
those and the few guys that did talk in the
locker room we were able to you know, I had
Mike McGlinchey on our post game and he's you know,
he's like this, this is what happens. We got to
figure out what we're doing and get better. And I
think there was a lot of shock. But I think
once they go back and look at the film, they're
going to understand that things really started to unravel in

(02:25):
the fourth quarter, and it started with Bo's interception, and
then you've got JK. Dobbins with the spike, You've got
Troutman with the face mask, the missfield goal that Will
Lutz had, and then the penalty on the field goal
that should have won the game. So there were just
these things. Some of them could definitely be addressed. There
are things that you can be more disciplined about, and

(02:45):
I mean there's there's penalties on every play, whether it
gets called or not is another story. So but I
think there were just we should never have been in
that position to be relying on a field goal being
missed at the end.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Of a game. Last time we talked last game, you
were talking about kind of the camaraderie and just the
you know, in sync that we really felt on the
sidelines when it came with the team. There's a video
going round right now of bon Nick's talking with coach Payton,
and it seems like a kind of confrontational or at
least a more stern back and forth with them. What's
the environment that we're really seeing right now with Nicks,

(03:19):
with the rest of the team, just the overall vibe
on the sidelines.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
Yeah, I don't think much has changed, Gina. I think
they're gonna, you know, like I said, watch the film
and get back at it, and when we go into
open locker room on Wednesday, it's going to be very
much the same. They're going to learn from this. I
saw that as well, and then I kind of watched
the next time because it was the next play after
that happened that Bonnicks through the interception, So I was like, Okay,
let's see how they react to each other when it

(03:43):
comes off the field at that one, and it was
you know, they still chatted, seemed amicable. I don't always
catch all those things because a lot of times they're
talking right, you know, between the forty and the fifty,
and I can't see around guys to see those interactions.
So you know, I think they're going to be fine.
It's one of those games where you got to learn
a lot from You've got to figure out how to

(04:03):
be more disciplined and how to not make mistakes at
the end when it matters the most. And the defense also,
you know, they gave up a lot of yards. I mean,
Daniel Jones looked like Josh Allen out there. It was
one of those things where we're like, wow, where did
What's going on with him? You've got to figure some
things out.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
And I'm sorry I wanted to ask that because the
defense did look like it got humbled. Do you get
a sense that they were surprised that the Colts came
out and punched him in the face a little bit
and in particular really going after Patrick's Artan, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
Looked at I was talking about the pr Galls at
the end of the game, and I said, they have
gone after pass so much in this game, which was
it was surprising because a lot of times teams will
just avoid him and you know, because he's so good,
so you know he struggled. There were times where Alex Singleton,
you know, wasn't in the right place and he's trying
to play catch up, and so he knows that. I mean,
they all know that. They know what they did, and

(04:53):
there were times where Jonathan Cooper and Nick Benito were
very close to making some really big plays and so
they were really frustrated because they weren't able to get there.

Speaker 2 (05:01):
So just goes to show.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
I mean, any given Sunday, it doesn't matter who the
teams are, you're going to have. These guys are in
the NFL for a reason, and they're good, they're fast,
and if you're not at the top of your game
and everybody's clicking, there's going to be opportunities that slip away.
And then it comes down to something like what it
did yesterday, hanging in the balance on a field goal, and.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
Let's hope they really shake it off come Sunday against
the Chargers. Sideline reporters Susie Warden appreciate your time as
always thank you of course guys, talk to you soon.
