Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's Colorado's Morning News, Marty Lenz, Ginagandikot Morning. The Broncos
late game struggles continued Denver, losing on the last second
field of gold again to the Chargers, this time twenty
three twenty in La.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Joining us now in the KWA Commons Beard Health Studio
is Broncos color analyst and host of the Rick Lewis
Show on one oh three five The Fox. It's Rick Lewis.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Man it wrong again, guys, Yeah, yeah, but don't worry.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Now we have another extra day to dwell on it.
But no, honestly, now we're looking at back to back
gut wrenching last field goal losses. How do you recover
from not just one, but two and then get ready
for a Monday night game?

Speaker 3 (00:35):
All right, here's the silver lining for you guys in
Broncos country out there. So the Broncos teams that they
lost to on the last play of the game are
combined six and zero. These are two of the best
teams in the AFC. Now we didn't know this about
the Colts, but now we know the Colts are a

(00:55):
good football team.

Speaker 4 (00:56):
They're going to be a playoff team.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
So when you look at that the Broncos, who haven't
played their best football yet. They were very competitive, went
all the way down to the wire. It could have
gone either way, and both of those games the Broncos
could have just as easily be undefeated. Right now, the
Broncos could have been the ones to win those two games.
So I'm looking at it that this team's only going

(01:21):
to get better, They're not going to get worse. They
still haven't put it together. Eventually, they'll play complimentary football offensively, defensively,
special teams, and they've got the talent to be a
good football team and a playoff team. I'm going to
say that right now.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
Last week we were talking about how the defense was
humbled a little bit. This week five sacks. I mean,
they had Herbert running for his life, and I just
keep thinking, man, he continues to get up and play,
and that's why the guy is an All Pro and
great player. More often, though, I think when you hold
a team like that to twenty three, you should be
able to score twenty four points. We're still sputtering a
little bit, even though there were flashes of it coming up.
Second half seventeen unanswered by the Broncos, but still seem

(01:59):
to struggle, and we need to have.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
There was a couple of plays that if they would
have hit probably I think three throw throws in general
by bon Nicks, if they could have hitched as one
of them, they win the game where you saw him
overthrowing Marvin Mims just by a hair. Same thing with
the Courtland Sutton, and there was another one earlier in
the game as well. So they're just not quite on

(02:22):
track yet. They're one and two. We got a lot
of football to play. They're gonna come home play here
on Monday night against the Bengals, and they will win
that game. Bengals with their backup quarterback with Joe Burrow out,
and I'm counting on that one already. It's gonna They're
gonna be two and two going into Philly. Philly got
beat yesterday. So now Philly came back. Oh they did

(02:43):
come back, did come back?

Speaker 4 (02:44):
All right? We were down. I was watching that game.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, they the big lineman blocked the kick, and then
I was for a last second winner from La but
then blocked it and anyway, the.

Speaker 4 (02:53):
Rams had them beat. That's right.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
So I'm still optimistic about the season. It's way too
early to push the panic button.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Yeah, are penalties killing us?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yes, that's another thing. And these are all things you
can fix.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
Those are mental errors though by our players. I mean,
was it who a fun gud tote, you know, dumping him?
He didn't have to do that tackle him, and you're just,
like I'm saying, you're just asking for a fifteen yard penalty.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
And it's the pre snap penalties that are really frustrating
and just unacceptable. And these are all things that are
fixable for this football team, which is another reason why
I'm feeling much better today than I did last Monday
when I came in. These are fixable problems. They will
get it figured out. They're one or two. They were
one or two to start the year last year and

(03:36):
they won ten games and went to the playoffs. So
don't give up yet.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Letter grade, what do you think it should be? Based
on our social media question overall on the season or yesterday? Yesterday,
I'm going to say C minus. Most people said see
at this point.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yeah, I'm gonna say C minus because these mistakes that
they made, they basically beat themselves in both of those games,
which is another reason for optimism. And in the last
season and three games, so going back to the start
of twenty twenty four. In one score games, the Broncos
are two and eight, and another thing that you can

(04:12):
improve on, and I do think they will be able
to do that. You got to learn how to close.
You have to be a finisher in this league. And
you've got a quarterback in just his second year. Factor
that in too. I think we had much higher expectations
for bon Nicks this year, certainly than we did last year,
and the coach put some pressure on him this year

(04:33):
saying he's going to be a top five quarterback.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
We're going or maybe going to the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
I think he's pressing right now and they'll get all
that figured out.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Quick question for me, real quick, Bonix, Do you like
seeing him run so much? Because I get a little
stressed when I do see him and then he got
clobbered at one point yesterday when he's really running and
he is getting a few yards each time, but it's
still something that's a little apprehensive to me.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
That's one of his better tool and his tool belt
is running, and I do like when I see him run.
We saw him do it much more last year. It
was very successful doing it last year. This year he
seemed to hesitate the first two games, like they were
telling him, Hey, don't pull it down and run it.
Try to find an open receiver. Go through your various checkdowns.

(05:19):
That game yesterday, he got some nice yards running the football,
and when he came up short on that first down,
that was the game right there. If he went about
another half a yard further, they win that football game.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I'm surprised they punted, though. There was a part of
me saying, hey, we're that close, they go for it,
but the defense was playing great at that point. Hey,
another question, but this is answer to it. It's not
the first time you've been to Sofi Stadium, obviously, I
know that your thoughts about that being kind of a
model of the new Broncos stadium not probably exactly better.
Things you like about that stadium you'd love to see
the Broncos are done well.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
A couple things. Number One, there's no home field advantage there.
That stadium had about forty percent Broncos fans. You can
hear the I'm loud and clear, definitely could on the
team on our broadcast. And I think Sofi is overrated.
I really do. I think there's better stadiums in the League.
Than that, it's got a gigantic, you know, digital scoreboard
that kind of wraps around the whole field. To me,

(06:16):
that's the best part of that stadium. The rest of
it's just okay to me. It's a little sterile to me.
Other than that, I don't like the roof they put
on it. It's like these kind of opaque like glass
or plastic. The sun still comes through. It was hot
in the booth. It was hot on the field yesterday
because the sun's still coming through, but it traps the

(06:37):
air where it was very hot and human. It felt
like we were broadcasting from a steam room yesterday. I
actually had to take my T shirt off. I usually
wear a T shirt under my dress shirt, you know,
just not only for look, but also, you know, kind
of if you are sweating, it kind.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
Of has to be sweat. You guys know that, right.

Speaker 3 (06:55):
I had to go in the bathroom and take my
T shirt off underneath my shirt.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
I asked Dave.

Speaker 3 (07:00):
I said, hey, you think it'd be all right if
we called the game here and undershirts? He went, no, Yeah,
that's a big no.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Froncos Color analyst, host of the Rick Luis Show on
One oh three five The Fox. It's Rick Lewis. Okay, Rick,
Tuesday morning. We better be talking something different than what
we're talking today.

Speaker 4 (07:18):
Uh yeah, you be here.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, next Tuesday, Next Tuesday, tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
We'll bring it back.

Speaker 4 (07:26):
You guys can count on me every week. Nice.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
If things change, just let me know. And if you
get tired of me, let me know too. I can
take great, all right, thank you,
