Joining us now on the KWA Common Spirit Health Hotline.
His voice of the Broncos, Dave Logan Morning.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Dave Morning, Gina Marty.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
So when we look at.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
This, I know Coach Payton said postgame that he still
believes the Broncos are a very good team, but we
got to get better fast.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
How is that done.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well? I mean, I think there are a handful of things.
You got to stop with the penales. They had ten
pennalies yesterday, and six of those penalies gave the Chargers
first downs. That's number one. You've got to You've got
to be better on first and second down. Some of
(00:48):
that yesterday was due to penalties. But of the of
the thirteen third down opportunities, and they converted only two
of the thirteen third down opportunity these ten of those
are third and eight or longer. And I mean, no
matter what level of football, you're not going to convert
at a high level, high rate if you're third and
(01:10):
third and eight or longer I mean the Chargers had
eighty snaps of offense in the Broncos I believe forty eight.
They couldn't they couldn't sustain stuff, they couldn't stay on
the field. And I think just those are a couple
of reasons.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
As to why last week we were talking about how
the defense was a little bit humbled by the Colts.
This week to d I mean five sacks of Herbert
rushing him, holding that offense, and as great as he
is to only twenty three points, do you do you
see more deficits as you mentioned a little bit, the
third down issues and long offense still not quite hitting
their stride.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well. I mean I thought, I thought, honestly, the defense
played pretty well, Marty. I thought, I mean, that was
a hard, fog game, for sure. But again, it just
gets back to putting yourself in third and manageable. I mean,
you've got to be into the third and three or four,
third and four, five. You can't be third and ten,
(02:03):
third and twelve. And the penalties again, I think the
penalties ten penalties, and I believe the Chargers had two
or three, but six of those ten gave the Chargers,
you know, first downs and you're lined up in the
neutral zone. I mean, things that you know you just
cannot do, and they'll they'll get those cleaned up, and
(02:23):
they've got to get them cleaned up in a hurry.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Well let's talk about that, Dave. We talk about two
gut wrenching losses, but to two very good teams. So now,
how do you pick yourself up? How do you continue,
especially getting ready for a big Monday night football game.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Well, you know what I mean, that's that's just the
nature of the business, right You're you're paid to do that.
You're paid to win games. And nobody, I've said this before,
Genus so many times, nobody really is going to feel
sorry for you. You know, maybe maybe the people you live
with in your house, I mean, they may feel sorry
for you for a while, and maybe a percentage of
(02:58):
them are mad at you too. So you've got to
I mean, you've got to go out and pick yourself up,
learn from this game, watch the tape, analyze it, and
then you got to move on and you've got to
find a way to win a game. But I think, again,
some of the thick stuff that we see, some of
the stuff is controllable. Right, Sometimes you're just going to
get beat the gag prouse from you. It's it better
(03:19):
he's better or has better play or what have you.
But the Broncos I think are sort of self imploding
with some of these penalties and just and plays that
you just can't make.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
And that as a coach and you know this, Dave,
that would drive you nuts, and I'm sure it drives
coach Peyton nuts when you look at the film and saying, really,
we're our own worst enemy. Don't beat ourselves in the process. Well,
to your point, are our listeners are not feeling sorry
for the Broncos? They've been very critical and we always
ask the letter grade question what most people give the
Broncos yesterday? Most say s C, but followed by D
if you had to evaluate again yesterday's game, what letter
(03:51):
grade would you give it?
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well, I mean they've lost, so I mean you know
the letter grade thing is you know to me kind
of so you either win or you lose. I mean
in the NFL, it boils down to that you can
play not as well as your opponent and find three
or four big plays that you and you find a
(04:12):
way to win, and that ultimately is what matters and
yesterday again, I thought the defense most of the time
played well enough to win. Now that last drive when
the Chargers came down and tied the game up, I mean,
you've got Delano Fung, who's one of their best players.
He just makes a play you can't make. So a
(04:32):
ten yard pass completion on third and ten turns into
a twenty five yard play because you get a on
sportsman lag. So I mean, just clean up the stuff
that you can clean up. I still think this is
a good team for sure. I think it's a playoff team.
They just have to starting Monday Night. They've got to
get on the wind.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Cone gear up for that Monday night game. A week
from today, hosting the Cincinnati Bengals Bronco's Voice of the
Broncos at Stave Logan.
Speaker 1 (04:57):
Thanks Dave.
