Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gina Gondeck and Marty Lenz on Colorado's Morning News. The
government shut down deadline coming up on September thirtieth, and
there's still no deal between Republicans and Democrats, and there might.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Be another speedbump after President Trump canceled meetings with Democrat
Democratic leaders in Congress.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Sit down and negotiate with the Democratic leaders and come
to an agreement, but he just ain't up to it.
He runs away before the negotiations even begin.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
A set of Minority Leader Chuck Schumer joining us on
the kay Common Spirit of Health Hotline live from DC.
Fox News Radio's Ryan Schmels. What is the response from
the President after canceling that meeting, Well, he pretty.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
Much said that he doesn't like the deal that Democrats
are counteropering with you. Democrats have put out their own plan,
which is a pretty bold and extensive healthcare set of
provisions that would have been attached to a government funding package.
A lot of it would overturn what was passed in
the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. And President Trump is
pretty much looking at that and saying, Nope, I do
(00:59):
not like that. So you're not getting a meeting anymore. So,
I mean Look, the strategy from Republicans from the start
has been that they want to have another vote on
their bill that would fund the government. It already passed
out of the House, so now it just needs to
pass the Senate, and they're going to put this bill
on the floor likely Monday or Tuesday, and that's, you know,
(01:20):
within hours of a government shutdown. But they're pretty much
saying to the Democrats, hey, vote for this cave or
we're getting a shutdown. The choice is yours.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Well, Ryan, that's what I was going to ask. I mean, where,
if anywhere, honestly, could there be any budget or compromises
made from either sides or is it pretty much no,
this is my stance. This is my stance, and we're
not going to find something in the middle.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
I mean there's been a little bit of effort for that,
but you know, for the most part, Leader Foon, based
off what Schumer said, is not agreeing to meet with him.
You know, they put a deal on the table, only
one Democrat voted for it in the House. Yeah, I
think they're really it seems like it's just a pressure
campaign right now, trying to get Democrats to cave and
bothe for this, whether it's with Schumer without Schumer, but
(02:04):
you know, Democrats have wanted to try to put these
healthcare provisions in here. There certainly are ones related to
the Affordable Care Act that are set to expire that
Republican support, at least some Republicans do, but it just
seems like they're not really willing to do that in
this specific package, and they want to move to a
different you know, you know, do that negotiating after they
get the government funding dealt with.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
So is it solely over these healthcare subsidies rhynds? Is
that the only thing or are there other things as well?
Speaker 4 (02:32):
There could be a number of things. This is the
one that Jefferys and Schumer kind of put their foot
in the ground on and have really made a part
of their negotiating tool, which is these Affordable Care Act subsidies.
There are some other things in there, especially if you
go through the Democrat bills they proposed. It's a lot
of things in there. But it seems like if the
Affordable Care Act subsidies were included, that would be enough
(02:55):
to at least get a good enough Democrats on board
this thing would pass. But you know, it's a pretty
cost endeavor. I mean, it's it's three hundred and fifty
billion dollars over the next ten years. So Republicans have said, yeah,
we want to we want to extend this, but we
want to have some conversations first about how the program's
being implemented and what the extension looks like, rather than
there doing a clean extension at the end of, you know,
(03:17):
in a government funding package. I think they want a
little bit more assurances.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Than that any chance of President Trump, Schumer Jeffrey's meeting
can still take place or was that cancelation?
Speaker 4 (03:26):
Oh boy, I don't know. That's that's uh. You know,
we've still got a long way to go until Monday.
That can be a century in politics sometimes, so I
wouldn't rule it out as a possibility, but it looks
like that's just not happening as things stand right now.
But you know, I think the big, big question is
what's the possibility of the Ravens and the Broncos crawling
out of this one and two positions? Because I don't
(03:49):
like this whatsoever. It's rough.
Speaker 2 (03:51):
Fox News Radios, Ryan Schmelz, Thanks Ryan, Hey, hev to
go with Thank you
