Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is Colorado's Morning News, covering a number of topics like immigration,
climate change, and the wars in Ukraine and Kaza. President
Trump delivering marks at the eightieth United Nations General Assembly
in New York City yesterday, he tow.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Did the work he's done in his second term while
also criticizing the UN. Joining US now on the KWAE
Common Spirit Health hotline as iHeartMedia White House correspondent, it's
John Decker. John, appreciate your time as always. What were
some of the main talking points that we heard from
Trump in that hour long speech at the UN yesterday.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, our long speech, very defiant speech. The President criticizing
the United Nations saying it's not living up to its potential,
criticizing other member states if they don't have policies that
deal with illegal immigration, Criticizing countries around the world that
view climate change as a serious issue. And the President
(00:48):
during the course of this full day in New York
City yesterday, also met with a number of world leaders.
You met with Ukrainian President Voladimir Zelenski, and it was
a good meeting as far as Lensky is concerned, because
the President demonstrated his full support for Ukraine for Zelenski.
He also put out a social media post showing that
(01:08):
support for Ukraine, and he called in that social media
post Russia a paper tiger. So some harsh words aimed
at Russia. And I think that allies of Ukraine or
NATO allies are very pleased with the President's comments and
outlook on the war that he exhibited yesterday.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
I'm going to get more into that here in just
a moment. I got to go back to when the
President said I'm really good at this and your countries
are going to hell? How did that play with the
audience there?
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Yeah, I've never heard that. I've covered a lot of
these speeches over the course of the years. I've never
heard a world leader come before the UN General Assembly
and insult all the members of the UN General Assembly
the way the President did yesterday. But look, the President's
very confident right now. He feels that he is the
pre eminent world leader. And I think that's the reason
(01:57):
behind the presidents saying that as it relates to illegal immigration,
the presidents saying that we cracked down on illegal immigration,
you should do so as well.
Speaker 2 (02:08):
And what reaction did we hear from other world leaders
when Trump kind of pivoted his position on the rush
of Ukraine war, almost kind of saying that Ukraine can
get some of this land back.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Yeah, that's right. You know, I think that NATO allies
were very pleased by that. There's NATO's Secretary General Mark
Ruda is very pleased by that. The President also asked
yesterday does the US is the US giving a green
light permission for NATO countries to shoot down Russian fighter
jets that enter into those NATO countries airspace. The President
(02:40):
had a one word answer, Yes, they can do that,
he said, And in fact, after the President indicated that,
Poland's foreign minister put out a social media post in
which he wrote Roger that so the President's messages are
clearly being heard around the world, not only by our
allies but also by or ad the series iHeartMedia.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
White House correspondent John Decker, thank you.
