Speaker 1 (00:00):
Sports. The Colorado Buffalo's aiming for the first conference win
of the season as they host b YU tomorrow night
in Boulder at Fulsome Field.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Joining us now on the KWA Commons Spirit Health Hotline
his voice of the Buffs, Mark Johnson, Mark, appreciate your
time as always. Okay, before we dive a little bit
into the BYU game, I mean, tell us a little
bit about this next stretch of games. Is this going
to be a challenge for the Buffs.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
It's going to be a challenge. They've got four s
three games against top twenty five opponents and so you know,
but that's what happens when you get into conference point.
They've only played the one conference game to this point.
So it's it's time to jump into the deep end
of the pool and they better be ready. They got,
you know, a little well, I think last week against Wyoming,
and so the needles point in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
So you found its identity at least on offense, Martin.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
That's that's a good question. You know. My partner Gary
Barnett always says that you never really know a college
football team till they played five games. Well, this will
be five tomorrow night against BYU the first three games.
I know that we didn't know what colin about his
identity was. Well, last week they get katesalter back. Kind
of if that week of the bench kind of woke
him up or had a reevaluate or what. But I
(01:04):
thought he played loose. He threw the ball very well
with three hundred four passing yards, also rushed for nearly
one hundred yards and had a long touchdown, and so
he played very well. Much likely expected what he transferred here.
So we saw what we thought we were going to
see before the season. So maybe the identity is starting
kind of a bubble to the top, if you will.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
What do we know about this BYU team? What are
maybe some of their weak spots that see you could target.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Well, they're number twenty five in the country. They haven't
played the strongest schedule yet. I mean, they won their
opening game sixty nine to nothing over a low level
team and they played Stanford Stanford's down. But their defensive
numbers are awful impressive. Remember we saw them in the
bowl game last year. They handled the bus pretty well.
Different teams, different circumstances. They've got a freshman quarterback, Bear Bachmeier,
(01:50):
who transferred in from Stanford, uses his legs pretty well,
pretty your siding. So they're a physical team. They're always
very solid and fundamental. I think this is really good
to be a great about tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
And I Coach Prime was effusive with praise for Kalanie
Sataki that had be the football coach to b Yu
had football coach when he was talking with you on
the Coaches Show. What more did he say about him?
But he seemed to really appreciate and respect him.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
He really likes him. You know, Sataki's a BYU guys,
so he graduated catching his alma mater. He's he's got
some of the same qualities in terms of, you know,
what he expects from his players, what he tries to
was still in his culture. And so even last year
the ballgame are Yeah, he was very, very effusive with
his praise about Satakia. Had a couple of interesting moments,
so I think kind of fun moments of mutual admiration moments,
(02:37):
if you will, with the press conference before the bowl
game last year, and so, yeah, likes the way he
he you know, kind of orchestrates his team, and that team,
by the way, reflects the coach. He's a very physical guy.
That's what he was as a player. That's the way
his team plays.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Mark.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Final question for me, what do you think of the
new Ralfe.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Well, she was Sonadoman. I was with Brig George yesterday.
He said, you know that's a six star recruit. I
know there was such a thing. Well, she came out
of the gates on fire last week and so it
looked like Ralphie is supposed to look. I dropped into
Tanna Stratton's office a couple of days ago, the handler,
the one that runs the Ralphie program, and I said, boy,
you's recruited a great and so we're back to normal,
(03:16):
if you will for the Relpie program at CEU.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
Big Game for the Buffalo's taken on BYU. Tomorrow Night,
Voice and the Buffs. It's Mark Johnson, Thank you, my friend.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
All right, guys, take care,
