Speaker 1 (00:00):
As resorts race to kick off another season, and.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
With it comes new on mountain improvements, expanded terrain, new experiences,
and some affordable passes for a number of go to
resorts joining us in the KWA Common Spirit Health Studio.
As director of Communications at Colorado Ski Country, USA, it's
Sarah Baty. Sarah, I love having you in the studio
because it means it's time for ski season, and I'm so.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Excited for the for ski season.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
It's always such an exciting time when we see them
firing up the snowguns and being like, Okay, yes, maybe
there's not a ton of snow falling yet, but we're
getting the snowmaking happening. Do we have any predictions, any expectations?
Is this early? Is this late for at least starting
to see some resorts saying okay, we're hoping to open.
Maybe some like Loveland keeps talking about they want to

(00:45):
be opening this month.

Speaker 4 (00:46):
You know what, everybody is right on par with last season.
We're starting to get some really good weather. You know,
snowmaking is a very scientific, very technical thing. You don't
just turn on the tap and you know snow appears.
It's got to be the right temperature of the ray, humidity.
It's going to have the light rate long range forecast.

(01:07):
So yeah, I mean, when you see those snow guns
firing up on you know, as you head west on
I seventy, you know, the ski season is not far behind.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
And Sarah, every year it seems like more and more
people are going to the ski resorts, and so they
have to do in the off season working very hard
to do improvements upgrades. I know almost all of the
resorts did something so highlights some of the some of
the changes and additions people can expect this season.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
A couple of big ones this season.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
One of the resorts where I grew up skiing was
in Salida.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Monarch.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
They are doing a big terrain expansion, three hundred and
seventy seven new acres of intermediate and advanced terrains, so
beautiful accessible terrain.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Here's the really cool thing.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
It's on the backside of what we know of Monarch
Mountain and it will be only the second resort in
North America where you can ski both sides of the
continental divide. Whoa and that fun. That's really cool. It's
actually nice.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
I love Winter Park as always, and there's some big improvements,
big celebrations for it. As soon as I saw this,
I was like, fiftieth anniversary of Mary j birthday, Mary Jane,
I love that. Well, they have a celebration coming up
next year as well.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Correct, we have a celebration coming up in January, and
I mean Mary Jane is a skiers mountain, so we're
all thrilled about that. And then down in Southwest Colorado,
Purgatory turns sixty. All of these boomer you know, ski resorts,
Happy birthday. Everybody's probably like sixty.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
They're comparing when they started skiing and when they were
first air Purgatory and they're like, wow, but that's really cool.
I love and it doesn't feel like they're sixty or fifty.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Continue to make sure, absolutely right.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
The resorts spend every single summer making the guest experience better.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Right.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
They are adding new lifts, they are adding new lodges
and improving the things that they have. They're adding different experiences,
lots of events and activities.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
So every single summer.

Speaker 4 (03:09):
You know, you think, oh gosh, they've gone home for
the summer, and who knows where they are.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
They're on the river somewhere.

Speaker 4 (03:14):
Nope, they're working They are working like crazy to make
that guest experience really fantastic when the ski season opens and.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
When it comes to Obviously they can only control what's
on their property. But with the influx of people going
to the resorts, are they working with their like their
local communities and the state to try to improve you know,
wider roads, more roads, better things, so it's easier for
the guests to get back and forth.

Speaker 4 (03:39):
Well, absolutely, and you've hit on it. Resorts are the
economic engine of these small mountain communities. They tend to
be the largest employers. They tend to be very involved
in transportation, housing, in workforce development, in work employees housing.

(04:01):
So you're absolutely right. These resorts are not just the
place that we all love to go and recreate and
have a great time. People come from all around the
country and all around the world to enjoy. They are
the economic engines of our mountain communities.

Speaker 3 (04:15):
All right, Sarah, let's talk passes.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
People might be looking outside right now and be like
upper seventies, plenty of sunshine today.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I'm not thinking ski season, but it's.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
Better to think now and book early before you the
real snowfall starts to fall. You look at these places
and they're sold out. You don't have your go to pass.
What are some of the things that skiers and borders
need to keep in mind right.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Now, Well, you have absolutely nailed it. You need to
be thinking about your ski season right now. So there
are here's why, there are so many different pass options
available right now, and they are going to sell out
or go away by the time the skiing gets really good.
So you might be a couple of times a season skier.

(04:57):
A pass that.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Might work for you.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
A multi pack, so a three four sometimes a five
day multi pack. Sometimes those can be split among families.
So that might be a great option for my college
freshman who's only going to ski a couple of times
when he comes home from break. But I have a
high school freshman who's here. Maybe that's a season pass,
maybe that's a multi mountain pass. And then if you

(05:25):
have younger kids, the really exciting news is that we
have expanded our ski passport program this season. It is
now includes kindergarten through sixth grades.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
So we've added kinder first and second grades.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
And those ski passports are seventy six days of skiing
for sixty seven or seventy two dollars and they include
two free junior rentals from presenting sponsor Christie Sports. There
is no more accessible way to get your little guys
on the mountain than the Kids Ski Passport.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
There are some skiers sorts where you can't even get
on the mountain for a single day for that price
seventy six days, that's awesome.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
And so where can people find out more details on
the various passes and actually purchase them.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
Passes opening days, all sorts of information go to our website,
coloradoski dot com.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Coloradoski dot com also has the Snow Report, which I
think is really funny right now because a lot of
resorts have a big spat zero next to it. But
just wait, just wait, wait into some exciting conditions start
to improve at our resorts as well. Director of Communications
at Colorado Ski Country USA at Sarah Baty Sarah love
having you here. It means we're one step closer to
ski season. Appreciate you, oh can't wait. Thank you guys.
