Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gina Gundeck and Chad Bauer on Colorado's Morning News. Our
social media poll question for this morning Broncos giants this weekend?
Who you got? Let us know on our ex Instagram, Facebook,
leave us a talkback on the iHeartRadio app. It will
also be Alumni Weekend taking place Sunday at im Powerfield
at Mile High the Broncos honoring the tenth anniversary at

(00:20):
the Super Bowl fifty championship team. Approximately one hundred and
fifty players, coaches, staff from that team will be in attendance.
The team walls will be inducting the late Damerius Thomas,
a member of that team, into the Denver Broncos Ring
of Fame.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Ryan Harris, play tackle for the Broncos during that championship season,
was a teammate of Damrius Thomas. He joins us live
on the KOA Commons Spirit Health Hotline to talk about
that Super Bowl winning season. Ryan, how are you this morning?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Thanks for joining us, Gina check, Great to be with you.
Great to be with you this fine Friday morning.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
So take us back to twenty fifteen at your third
stint with the Broncos in training camp. What was the
vibe like was it an all or nothing Super Bowl
or bus type thing or was it just like any
other season going into it.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Well, we all knew we wanted to win the Super Bowl.
Unfortunately for me in coming back, a lot of the
guys had lost Super Bowl forty eight, so everybody knew
how close you can get without being successful. And everybody
on that team was willing to do the work every day.
I mean, some of the wildest cats you can imagine.
We're in every morning at seven a m. We had

(01:24):
teammates that looked out for each other. We had dinner
with each other as a offense and defense every week,
and we knew the length of the season that they're
going to be bumps in the road. But you cannot
lose the faith or belief, and you have to accept
the mistakes that you made and accept the work you
have to do. So I hope everybody has teammates like
I had on that Super Bowl fifty team, and none

(01:44):
of them were better as a person or a teammate
than the Marius Thomas Ryan.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
What is it going to be like being back with everybody,
the players, the coaches, and everybody with that team. On
top of also taking that moment to honor to Marius Thomas.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Well, everybody's excited to see each other. You know, I
think one of the things people miss on that Super
Bowl fifty team is nobody thought we were going to
win the Super Bowl, right, I mean everybody thought, oh okay,
peyved Man, it can't do this, but we actually believed
we could. And we've formed an incredible bond over twenty
seven weeks as a team, and we just want to
be near each other. We want to be near the
teammate that understands how hard you're willing to work, that

(02:20):
understands you don't have to make fun of somebody to
have fun with somebody, And just to hear those voices again,
and it will be bittersweet because not only are we
missing to Marius, but we're also missing Ronnie Hillman and
coach Greg Knapp. So, you know, for this ten year
team to be down three guys, all we can say
is tell your loved ones you love them early and often.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And Ryan, looking back now that it's been ten years,
how has been a Super Bowl champion impacted your life?

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well? I got a great conversation starter everywhere I go
when I put that ring on, right, I mean, everybody
wants to know about it and the other thing too.
I do a lot of corporate speaking and where that
and you know, I know how to win. And let
me tell you the secret. You don't have to be perfect.
You got to be willing. Yeah, in fact, have to
be willing to be imperfect. So you get a ton
of knowledge from winning the Super Bowl. I tell people

(03:10):
when you win, when you achieved that thing that everybody
told you couldn't happen, whether they said it or not,
you get to believe about other people believe about you
what you have believe in about yourself. So it's an
amazing thing. It's changed lives and it's made my second
year of law school a little easier to know you
can get through tough things and be successful. On the
other side, we've.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Heard some great statements from current Broncos players talking about
Damarius Thomas. But Rian, does one memory come to mind
when you think of him?

Speaker 3 (03:39):
The thing that comes to mind immediately for me. Everybody's
heard the Boys and Girls Club story, But you know,
I come back and I'd known Damarius from his first time,
my first time here, and he came in as a rookie,
had a foot injury, and I came back before we
started the Super Bowl fifty season. He just had his
big smile and his big old hands heloes. Hey, buddy,

(03:59):
where you been? You know, he just was that kind
of guy throwing sunflower seeds on you if he thought
you were sleeping in a meeting. But you know, you
look back, he's looking straight at the screen. And the
only receiver I played with in ten years that never complained.
He ran across the field to block for other teammates.
He would quiet guys down if they were being disruptive,
and he'd also encourage guys and the greatest leaders encourage

(04:23):
others and may and help others produce.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Ryan. As you look at this year's Broncos team, do
you think that they have the ability to end up
to be a Super Bowl team.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
They do for three reasons. It starts with the defense. Hello,
I mean this defense is unreal. They might get eighty sacks,
setting an NFL record, breaking the eighty five Bears record
of seventy two. And they might get it in sixteen games.
Even though they have a seventeenth game, they haven't played
the Raiders twice. That's gonna be a great game for
the defense. And then the second reason is bon Nicks.

(04:56):
You have a quarterback that can throw the football, and
I don't know why it was think it was okay
for Tim Tebow to come back in the fourth quarter,
but not for bow Nicks. He's got the goods. He
knows how to play his best ball in the fourth quarter,
taking all the information he's seen from the game. And
then lastly, you got the coach, I mean, Sean Payton
knows how to get there and what that looks like
in the NFL is, Hey, I'm going to plan the

(05:17):
schedules so that we are healthy in January, so that
we're healthy and have a shot in that second week
of February to win a championship. Coach Payton knows how
to get there. He knows the plays that works. So
for those three reasons, the Broncos can win a championship
this year.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Ran we appreciate your time this morning, enjoy your weekend
here is going to be so great to see you
guys altogether.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
Gina, Chad, thanks for having me in. Thank you Broncos country.
It's the best to win a Super Bowl here
