Speaker 1 (00:00):
So you Buff Football get to learn if they move
up in the College Football Playoff Rankings poll later today,
they curly sit at seventeen. Odds are good that they
will move up.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Joining us now on the KWA Common Spirit Health Hotline
to talk more about it is Voice of the Buffs,
Mark Johnson. Mark, thanks for your time. As always, the
Buff's now eight and two for the season. Huge difference
than what we saw last year. Let's just start with
just to check it. What have we seen this year
that is better and more succeeding when it comes to
the Buffs than what we saw last year?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Well well, well, first off, by the way, so we've
got to say happy birthday to miss Peggy today. By
the way, she turns to one hundred birth one hundred
years of something else.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
By the way, the stadium singing to her at the
last game, that was something special.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Mo, Marty, I'm telling you, I look over Gary, and
Gary got tears in his eyes, and I start watering up.
I think everybody in the booth was was about ready
to start crying right there. So yeah, she's about as
fine a human being as ever going to make. So
happy birthday to Miss Peggy this morning now the genus question,
Holy Cal's that's a big one, right there, we go
all different directions what Prime has done in the two
seas that he's been here. Obviously, he's improved the culture,

(01:03):
he's improved the roster, the talent level. It helps when
you've got to, you know, maybe the best quarterback in America,
the most dynamic play in America in Shadur and Travis.
But it really has been a total overhaul with what
he's done the last couple of seasons. And I mean,
he's going to be in the running for National Coach
of the Year because of what he's done. But right now,
this team is playing complete football and they're doing it

(01:26):
at a very high level, which is you know why
they're making a push for a Big twelve championship and
the potentially he's found a college football playoffs.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, I was going to say, and that is a
legit possibility. Obviously the Busts have to win out, but
that is a real possibility. But first first is first
they face a Kansas team that just upset BYU this
coming Saturday.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I'll tell you this, Mardy, I don't know, four or
five weeks ago, maybe Gary Barda and I are talking
about kind of the league and how things are looking,
and he says to me, says, Kansas might be the
most dangerous team in this league. Now keep in mind
what he said that I think they had two or
three wins, and Mike, you got to be kidding me.
He goes, no, no, no, because he've watched them a couple
of times, because that is a really good football team.
They've had some awful walk earlier than in the season,

(02:04):
so we're playing a very good football team this weekend.
They've beaten two top twenty five teams in Iowa State,
and byu given those two teams their first two losses,
this is going to be a heck of a game.
And then my friends in Kansas City have been telling
me that because of what Kansas has done the last
couple of weeks and what the bubble has done and
all season long, the kind of excitement, the generation of

(02:25):
anticipation with this game is going to be out of them.
I mean, it's going to be like a Broncos Chiefs game. There.
They're talking about the things sold out, you can't find tickets,
you can't find parking, it's going to be just spectaculus.
So that's a big game coming up on Saturday at
a very important game for Colorado.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Obviously, Mark, looking at this past week and aside from
the fifty four thousand people singing Happy Birthday to Peggy
on Saturday, what did you see on Saturday that you
really liked when the bus really stomped Utah? And what
needs to continue heading into this weekend with Kansas.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Well, you know, we knew going in Jina this was
going to be an explosive offensive team, and they are
that one of the top scoring teams in the league
right now and around the country with the quarterback and
all the receivers they have. But it's been the development
of the defense. I think that has been most significant.
Because you can score a lot of points, but if
you give it up a lot of points, you know,
the chances are you're not going to win a lot
of times. So what this defense has done, Number one,

(03:15):
it leads the Big twelve and sacks. It leads the
Big twelve and tackles for a loss. You've got NFL
guys on the back end of that defense. This defense
has become physical and stout, and it's a playmaking defense.
They're forcing turnovers, they're forced into ten interceptions and ten
force fumbles this season that they've recovered. I mean, it
is really a problem for opposing offenses. And so when

(03:38):
you pair the two, as we all know, that's a
very good day on the football field. And so I
think that's what I enjoyed watching again on Saturday, because
they're always going to make the big play. So there
is going to find Travis and Lejonte, and so this
team is playing complete football right now and that's awful
tough to beat.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Mark. I'm sure you catch up with every so often
and interact with the college football muckety MUCKs by saying this,
I think most college football nation wants to see you
in the playoff, but at the same time, they're not thrilled,
and I don't think it will work out that way,
especially with the BYU lost, But they don't want to
see more than one Big twelve team in the playoff.
Do you get that sense?

Speaker 3 (04:15):
Yeah? Yeah. The muckety box always seemed to kind of
favor of the SEC, don't they They.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
In the Big ten?

Speaker 3 (04:20):
Yeah? Yeah, and the Big Ten of some resurvience respects
as well. What's happening right now in this league and
you're seeing it. I think in a lot of leagues
where there's kind of beating each other up, which typically
happens a year in and year out. But yeah, they're leaning
in that direction where I think right now in this conference,
you've got a BYU, which is obviously a very good
football team. Colorado always us. He is obviously making noise

(04:42):
and right now time for the leading in the conference.
Iowa State, I think is in the middle of this thing.
Kansas State may have something to say. Arizona State's a
team that nobody thinks about a whole lot in this league.
I think they're playing really, really well right now, and
so there is an opportunity. Now. It seems like the
way this thing always unfolds, you know, maybe one comes
out of this li But we'll kind of see how
how they you know, things things that fall here in

(05:04):
the next couple of weeks to kind of determine that.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
See you Buffs taking on Kansas Jayhawks Saturday afternoon. Our
KWA coverage will begin at eleven thirty on Saturday, with
kickoff at one thirty. Voice of the Buffs, It's Mark Johnson.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Thanks Mark, I guys, see you
