Speaker 1 (00:00):
Emery Hunts.

Speaker 2 (00:00):
We're such a big fans of a memory.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Yeah great and a tremendous guy, and he has really
risen up through the ranks. He's on CBS Sports now
and we had a chance to catch up with him
a little bit earlier, and here was our conversation. I
started out by asking Emory about what he's noticed this
year at the combine.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
This is the athleticism that we're seeing from everyone involved.
We used to come to the combine for years and
when it was just like, well, all right, these guys
are going to be fast, so the fans guys have
showed up. Well you can't say that now because you
had d Lineman at two eighty that may run full four, right,
And so just a sheer level of athleticism that we've
seen from across positions and no one hasn't worked out yet,
but we expect. These guys are running and no one

(00:40):
raises their eyebrows and you just do it.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Here at three fifties, is gonna run like four? That's fine.
That's what we've seen. That's that's what been impressed me.
Most the days are talking messed offensive Lineman a Rover
because they can all catch.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
You now, so exactly as we look at this, who's
soon somebody, You're like, you got your eyes off, you like,
I really want to see this guy.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Nobody's you know, we know who the Travis Hunters are.
Who's that guy that did.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Maybe the in your mind, You're like, I want to
see this guy that people are art exactly talking about.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Charles Grant the tackle from William and Marry. Yeah, I
love his tape. Man, he is out saying, first of all,
Mike London is a fantastic head coach down of William
and Mary. Saw him at a call a lot of
the games when they were at Howard. He won national
championship at Richmond. Everywhere he's going, he's had success. And
I love the fact that he is consistently producing good
NFL or UFL players and Grant's gonna be the NFL guy.

(01:25):
And Grant's athleticism, you see it on tape and you
see it consistently manifest it up and how.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
He blocks and how he attacks the second level.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
And what's crul about William and Marry is the fact
that they they planned one of the better conferences in
the SCF, so you're getting top quality competition and then
when they play FBS team, they give him a good fight.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Sometimes they win games.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
So you know you're getting a good guy if we're saying,
first of all, there's only seven guys.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
From FTS schools here right total.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
And so but when you talk about someone from that conference,
you're talking about somebody that can literally step in and
play right away.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
What shoot out to you about Bonnicks's first season in
the NFL and sort how much did that line where
he thought he would be coming out of college.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
That's a great question because for me both Knicks, I
was like, he's he's kind of maxed at what he's
as a prospect because he played so much. So what
you see is what you're gonna get. It's about making
sure we get the Oregon bon Knicks and not the
Auburn bo Knicks. Denver got the Oregon bow Knicks in
the back end of the season importantly. You know early
parts it was kind of up and down, and so
you saw a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Of Auburn creeping.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
But I want to say maybe around week six or so, actually,
I want to say whatever the week it was when
they played the Ravens. Even though that game end that
you saw some opportunity, like, man, if you could just
hit that.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Deep throw, hit that deep throw, that game's different.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
And then he started connecting those deep balls and now
things started to open up. His confidence got even more
locked in, and they saw that carry out. So it's
good to see him work on where I thought the
deep ault actually was a question coming out. He got
better and I know everybody remember it's the Buffalo game,
like right out of the gate bang deep ball.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
But I like the fact that and then the reason.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Why I'm smiling about both Knicks because the comversation around quarterbacks,
it's like.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
If you're not elite, then you can't.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Play as if you as if we can't find ways
to win with guys that are not the fastest, strongest
arms or whatever. But the fact that you can go
out there build a team around a guy that's, hey,
just do your part, we do our part.

Speaker 2 (03:18):
We can win games. That's what both Nicks did.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Now I makes I see he's gonna build on that
this year because now you've got the confidence. Now we
see him connecting the deepa I think that's going to continue.
And we know they have oticisms to open everything up
if they can find a running back now now you
can come win gas for for the offense.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
You went there with the running back, so let's go there.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
I got a little man crushed on Murray and Hampton.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
But who are some running backs in this class that
you like? Everybody like?

Speaker 3 (03:43):
It reminds me of the class that we saw with Fournett,
Kareem Hunt, to Rick Owens, Aaron Jones, the Alvin Cook
and McCaffrey.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
So is like that class.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
So rg Harvey is someone I really like on CF
like wiggle good elusiveness, ran downhill at UCF so he
could run inside despite being a shorter guy.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Uh, I'm a big fan of Oli Gordon. I think
we forgot how good he was right.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You know, there was one there was one play in
particular that I felt this pain. This was against Ushaw
and the quarterback turned around the hand in the football,
so the quarterback doesn't see.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Ali's looking at four red helmets.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
He's like, there's no way. I'm like, no one blocked.
And so but if you go back and watch the
tape last year, you see the experience and I think
he's a great receiver.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
You know, for a tallow back, that's the one.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
You probably get where wherever he goes, he's gonna have
been a good starter, and then Ohio State back to good.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I'm a big Henderson guy.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
I thought he tied it all together this year was uh.
I thought he was a little bit too patient two
years prior this year he was.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
He saw it waited.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
But sales in locksp attacking, aggressively, making guys miss, He's
a great blocker. All those things show itself really well.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
But this is you can literally.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
Find guys on day three that's gonna be starters, which
again is not saying you don't take run backs in
round one, said you can find guys that can start.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
There's only thirty two picks in the first.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Round, just fine guys that could start way on the
day three.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
I completely agree with you, and I agree by Ali Garden.
It's like, was he not the best running back in
college football? It's just a year ago, and then all
of a sudden he's like.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
At maybe a date's repick.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
It's it's wild last one for me. Tight ends because
that's another position the Broncos are gonna be looking at.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
It feels kind of similar to the running back.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
It feels like, what hey, you could take one in
the first round, but maybe into day three we're gonna
still see some really good players there.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Absolutely, and this is one of those classes where it
is I had this conversation with another guy a couple
of years ago because he asked a question, why are
we seeing so many excellent tight ends come up with
small schools.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
It's like, well, you think about how they recruit these guys.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
You're getting a taller, slower receiver with some weight on them.
Now you've got an athletic, fast tight end. But you
know he still still everybody he's a tight end novel.
So teams are starting now you starting to see powerful teams.
We don't have to overlook this slow, tall receive. We
could turn them to a tight end. And so we're seeing.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
More fluid athletes at the position.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
It's another deep group and you can't go wrong with Tyler, Warren,
Gunnerham leveland all.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Those those are the top of the top.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
But you can get guys on the back end, Fanning
or whatever and have some success. There's this one guy
always bring up because I go to all these different
All Star games, right, and this was at the College
with Iron Showcase and it was a kid from Saint Norbert.
This is a Division III program in Wisconsin, say, and he
had five hundred yards receiving ten receiving testsouts and people
were like, of course, it's going to dominate six four

(06:37):
two fifty, so going to dominate his.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Level of competition. But you realized that was his first
year of football. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
But his thing is the other this So yeah, that's
how I oh this first year football.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
But this is another wild.

Speaker 3 (06:48):
Moment because he spent the last four years as a
Division one athlete four hundred meter hurdlers.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
From like have Marquette, so he always wanted to play football.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
In his last year of eligibility, It's like, where can I
play football? Because Marcutt doesn't have a football team. He
goes to Saint nor but plays and then dominates at
the college we're on show. Pup Mitchell van Vooren.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
This is his name, explains Sar of the playbook.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
So good, hey, man, really appreciate the time. We love
senior success man.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
You keep coming. Appreciate you guys, Thank you so much
for that. I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
All Right, that was a lot of fun there speaking
with Emory Hunt from CBS Sports.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
We'll get that interview up
