Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, welcome to it.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Happy Tuesday, everybody, ka Sports, Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, Nick
Ferguson and Judio What I Nick?

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Yeah, it was going on, fellas. You didn't expect that,
did you?

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I did not. Yes, you got a lot of energy today.

Speaker 4 (00:13):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
A little pep in your step?

Speaker 3 (00:15):
I always do.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Okay, I think that.

Speaker 5 (00:17):
I mean, I'm an older individual, But doesn't thissarily mean
I have to kind of fall into that lane and
just kind of oh man, well, life doesn't seem that great.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
No, I'm not that type of guy.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
You're not the type of guy. No, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
You're let's start the relievers in instead of our starting
pitchers kind of guy. That's the that's the kind of
that's that's a real thing. By the way, Dave, that uh,
Nick Ferguson's a proposal there are Colorado Rocky.

Speaker 5 (00:40):
Tell him why I said it before you put some
context onto it.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
If that was your way of saying, hello, Hi, Ryan,
how are you.

Speaker 3 (00:49):
Hello?

Speaker 6 (00:49):
Nick?

Speaker 7 (00:50):
He ain't even just gotta I don't even know. I'm
not even sure there was a question in there. I
just thought I'd jump in and say hello, no question,
that's just.

Speaker 5 (00:57):
Ryan's trying to find a way to throw me under
the bus, and hopefully that you will apply, you know,
the eighteen will to help you.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Oh he knows better than that. Yeah, but on his
face value, work together. We've worked together long enough now
to know better.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, but on his face value, Dave, if somebody were
to tell you, hey, I think you should table the
idea of your starters starting and let's let's go to
the bullpen first.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Which team did that? Not that long ago? I mean,
if the Rockies at one time did these.

Speaker 7 (01:26):
Sev seventy, But there was another team and it was
fairly recently Major League Baseball that started that. I think
the Rockies got that idea from which I never ever liked.
But I just can't remember which team it was. Maybe
I can't remember anyway, Not important.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Not important.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
We already get two torpedo bats at some point. I'm
excited about talking about torpedo bats, especially with your Yankees
r Your Yankees fifteen hope runs in three games.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Yeah, my goodness, like some hater racing coming from not illegal.
I'm just saying, Peter Bots are awesome. More home runs, listen.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
I I'm of the opinion because I wasn't against the
steroid era. What I had no problem with that whatsoever. Hey,
you do that to your old body, that's fine. We
got sixty home run chases happening, that's fine with it.
Still fine with it.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Let them all into the.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Hall of Fame too, No man, yes, no, it's capitalism.
Uh So we got the NFL, that's a problem. We
got Ian rapport joining us coming up here in just
a little bit. Looks like, oh yeah, I got some
news here. Uh klayus Campbell is signing with the Arizona Cardinals.
Back with the Arizona Cardinals. He was once with them,

(02:43):
but well, Ian rapport joining us here. A little after
three thirty, the NFL Owners meetings rolling on, all sorts
of new rules coming out. Dave, we spent a little
bit of time dissecting the insanity that was Sean McDermott
in his argument that hey, you got to ban this
thing because of well, trust me, because we don't have
stats on it.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
It's been tabled.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
They didn't have enough votes sixteen of the possible twenty
four that they needed to be able to do this.
They were not able to get that done. There were
some things Pacitay that actually are. I'm very excited about,
very excited about. But the tush push for all the
people out there, they're like, oh, it's just against the
rules and it shouldn't be in there.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
That's not a thing.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
You're right, by the way, and that hurts me to
say out loud, But you were right about the language
of it, because I do believe you can pull people
now because I said yesterday yesterd that was like, I
don't think you can do that.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
That is incorrect. That used to be a rule, like
twenty years ago. That was a rule.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
They had gotten rid of all that language, pushing, pulling,
all of it. But they are considering going back to it,
believe it or not. That's they table this thing till May.
They actually might come back to the whole tush push
thing and they might include that language that was twenty
years ago in the reason why they're going to do it.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Well, that would be if if they do that.

Speaker 7 (04:03):
And sometimes I think the Rules Committee, ostensibly they're trying
to come up with ways to improve improve our game, right,
but I think there are sometimes where they get past
Christmas and the New Year's and the Super Bowl ins
and now you meet the Rules Committee meet, which they
meet more than just once a year, and I think

(04:26):
sometimes it feels like to me that they're like, so
what I mean, I don't know anything. You want to
change anything? I don't know what do you think anything
we can change? Anything we can change now, this would
be one rule that I would be in favor of
changing if they went back and said, no, matter what

(04:48):
they do with the tush push. I've never understood allowing
players to grab guys that have the ball and pull
them forward. It just seems like, and I'm you know,
I'm an offensive guy, but that doesn't seem like a
football move. I don't mind the helping guys, you know,

(05:08):
block from behind, but I wouldn't, you know, if they
said you're not going to be able to push guys
from behind either, I'd be okay with that too. But
I think the pulling guys, yeah, number one. I think
then then you auto allowed defensive guys which they don't
to come up and like clean that up, like you
get a guy pulling a guy a ball carrier, then

(05:30):
a safety I don't know, one that maybe looks like Nick.
I'd say, hey, if we see that, put your helmet
like right under his earpad and say hello so And.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
As I understand, and Albert Brier pointed this out, Nick
that the reason that they remove that language from two
thousand and four because that's what that's when they at
that point said it's okay to push players and it's
okay to pull players. The reason they removed it is
because it was becoming difficult for officiating to lot to
decide if a block down field was actually aiding a

(06:04):
player being pushed from behind, or they're actually just engaged
in the block. And so the officials thought that was
too hard, and so they said, let's just scrap it
all and you can go do this. Now they're thinking
about revisiting that back into May. I'm sure as you
as a defensive player, you probably think it's all treating anyways.

Speaker 3 (06:21):
No, I don't.

Speaker 5 (06:22):
Actually I am a fan of the toush push.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
Really, yes, I am.

Speaker 5 (06:26):
I'm a huge fan because the idea of watching how
it's being executed, because on any given play, no matter
what touch, push is something else, it's execution and also personnel,
and the idea is not to penalize teams for coming
up with innovative plays that no one else seemed to
be able to come up with a reason as to
stop it, which I think is really lazy from a

(06:48):
coaching standpoint. So if there is going to be a
tweak to the rule, which is going to be I
would say, look, I'm not a fan of down fifteen
yards down the field. Now you're aiding someone by pushing
them or you're pulling him. No, within a one yard
type of rule where the push really is that's okay
because now the idea is, well, guys are getting injured

(07:11):
right well, not that I know of.

Speaker 7 (07:14):
Even though there's not any statistical data that states there's
been that injury, because if so, we would have seen
it on the field.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Now there's only been one injury as the Philadelphia Eagles
used the tush push, and it didn't take place until
this past year in the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
Now that wasn't.

Speaker 5 (07:34):
Because of the Philadelphia Eagles, but it was because Spagnolo
and his defensive players chose an ignorant way to try
to stop it.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Chris Jones. Yes, very ignorant.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
Because one of your best players in Chris Jones, was
taken out of the game because of a neck injury.
Why he decided to turn his body sideways to allow
Nick Bolton to push him against the offensive line, thus
exposing his neck to injury.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Stupidity, right, if a coach told me to.

Speaker 5 (08:03):
Do that, Like, you know what, and I've been told
a lot of stupid things, but that is real stupid.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Now your best player is not even on the field.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
What's the otherest thing you've ever been told?

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Uh, Well, we're going to saying Al Wilson through the
A gap. We're gonna seeing you through the B gap
to occupy the vision of Larry Allen. You're gonna hold
him right, and you're gonna be the sacrificial lamb and
you're gonna get kicked out of the club. Also, Al Wilson,
a much larger guy, can get the sack.

Speaker 7 (08:29):
Yep, that's just called team ball. That's right, Hey, you
know what I'm saying. That's just team ball.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
When Larry Coyer first told me that, I was like, Yeah,
don't you think we need to switch because the body
types are a little different. It was just like, no, see,
you're gonna hit it from depth, so we're gonna disguise
it so Larry's not going to see it. Until the
last moment, I was like, you know Larry Allen, right,
you know how is right?

Speaker 3 (08:51):
And you know how? He Binge pressed, I'm gonna get
tell us out of the.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
Club, and I said, you know what, Dave, being an
excellent teammate, I said, I'm gonna take one.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
On the chin of the team. And I did.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
That's how you do it, and I did it. That's
how you do it, and that's how we do it
on the show too, self sacrifice. That's right.

Speaker 2 (09:06):
Yeah, the other day when Dave called me a coward,
I took it on the chin. I said, you know what,
I probably earned that, and then we moved on.

Speaker 7 (09:13):
But in context, just for people that might be tuned
in today, for the first time, I don't even remember
exactly what the argument was. It went from what was that?
Do you remember we were.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
Talking about the Timberwolves and how scared I was that
the Timberwolves? Oh yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:30):
And then and then you said you're you're concerned. You
you made it lighter. And then I said, okay, well
tell me how you really feel like well, was.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
This about being scared of the Timberwolves as from a
basketball standpoints or the actual animal standpoint?

Speaker 4 (09:46):
No?

Speaker 1 (09:46):
No, no, he didn't want to face the Timbers.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Oh oh oh yeah, that is kind of soft though.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
It's it's kind of soft, like you talking about soft
as Sharman.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
If you're not watching Theets and Timberwolves, I'm just saying, yeah.

Speaker 7 (10:00):
You got to go get I mean, seriously, you've got
to decide are we going to go get this or not?

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Some healing can happen tonight. I think this is a
key game for the Nuggets. It is.

Speaker 7 (10:12):
I think the Nuggets have to establish like, listen, I
know you guys have got the best of us. I
know last year in the playoffs, we've gone over all this.
So I think the Nuggets come out and tonight, I
think the Nuggets will establish like this is a different
thing than what Minnesota's experienced recently here in Denver. And
if they don't, then they move on and we go

(10:33):
at it again.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
Rudy Gobert or Kola.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Jokids, Well, that's that's not the thing.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
I mean that is that is a thing.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
What about Anthony Edwards or Jamal Murray.

Speaker 5 (10:45):
Well, we know for Anthony Edwards is a better and
more athletic player than Jamal.

Speaker 3 (10:50):
But if Jamal is having one of those Jamal Murray
type night.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
He doesn't have those with Anthony Edwards anymore.

Speaker 7 (10:55):
You gotta find ways. I think that's where Michael Malone
can step in and help.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
You.

Speaker 7 (11:00):
Gotta fight find ways to unlock Jamal a bit. I'll
tell you what's not gonna happen. Jamal's not at his best,
trying to create off the dribble, trying to beat you
off the dribble.

Speaker 1 (11:13):
I think.

Speaker 7 (11:13):
I mean, Anthony Edwards is six', five very. Athletic you're
not Gonna you're not gonna beat him off the. Dribble
but he's like everybody. Else you run him into one,
screen you run him into another, screen you're running back
into one. Screen sooner or, later do you know? What
he starts going underscreens or stops trying to fight through
with the great, vigor and Then jamal gets, open looks

(11:35):
at the. Basket SO i like The nuggets. Tonight here's
a different. APPROACH i like to take A Bill parcell's
approach to. It you Show Jamal murray a lot Of
Anthony edwards, plays and you show him Plays Anthony edwards
against him over and over and over. Again hopefully you

(11:56):
piss him off enough where now you get.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Angry now he wants to go out there and he
wants to play.

Speaker 5 (12:02):
WELL i mean that's kind of an approach to it
because some coaches show a lot of their players and
their teams. Highlight, yeah show the other team's highlight against
this particular player and see what he's made.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Of that's WHAT i would.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Do you think that will be enough to overcome the
CLEAR i guess mental hurdle That Anthony edwards represents For
Jamal murray because he's just not that guy around the.

Speaker 5 (12:25):
ANTS i don't think it would have totally overcome, it
but you'll get a chance to see what type of
man and what type of Player jamal.

Speaker 1 (12:30):
Is, yeah he hasn't been that guy.

Speaker 7 (12:32):
Consistently it's not like he's never been that guy.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Consistently, okay, yeah he hasn't been that guy.

Speaker 7 (12:39):
Consistently BUT i remember a game in the playoffs last
year at The Target. CENTER i don't remember what how
Many jamal, got but it was a bunch on everybody
that covered.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Him this is a monster.

Speaker 2 (12:52):
Game like for the, standings we'll come back to the
NFL's in a, second but The nuggets are right now
one and a half back of The. Rockets maybe they
don't catch The. Rockets they're one game up with The.
Lakers so The nuggets are, Three lakers are. Four minnesota
is a half game back Of Golden state for the
six to get out of the play. In So minnesota

(13:12):
is gonna. DO i mean they're going to miss two players.
Tonight The vincenzo And read are. Out they're suspended for
the melee that took place Against.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Did you see?

Speaker 5 (13:21):
That?

Speaker 7 (13:21):
Really So i've developed like a little thing for The. Timberwolves,
okay Nos, Reid, Okay, now Maybe i'm. Wrong maybe MAYBE
i talked to friends that cover THE. Nba maybe they, Say, dave,
no not that. Guy BUT i look at Nas reed
and how he handled. That i'm, Thinking, bro you are

(13:41):
one of those fake tough. Guys you want a fake
tough guy really, like, well, no BUT i mean we're
talking about, athletes current athletes playing What you're going to
start like that on that. Foul that wasn't a hard,
foul that wasn't a cheap, shot that wasn't any of those.
Things but you want to turn around and act, like you,
know like like you're a tough. Guy So i'm out

(14:03):
on Nas reed And divicenzo actually got in AND i.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
Sort of like his. Game he's pretty.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Scrappy yeah, YEAH i think he got two games IF
i remember, Correctly BUT i mean it.

Speaker 1 (14:13):
Doesn't pack this.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Game it would be one thing for, Me it would
probably move the need a little bit more Of ant
or Maybe Julius randall probably. More ant was out of this.
Game BUT i Think minnesota there's just some there's some
kind of men Taking. Minnesota i'm gonna Take minnesota to.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Night, Okay nuggets have congressulates to. Me they don't have
to prove you. Anything that's exactly what they. Know when's
the last time?

Speaker 7 (14:32):
Here they sometimes BECAUSE i took a lot of shots
in my playing, career like in the, head and SOMETIMES i,
Stutter so tell me the last time In minnesota won
THE Nba championship and go.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Okay, yeah so, yeah so why are why are we
all up in their? Job this is if this is
a what have you done for me? Lately?

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Situation and they have five straight on The, Nuggets they've
swept the season series so.

Speaker 7 (14:59):
Far they've they've played well against The, nuggets and The
nuggets haven't haven't played their best against.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Them BUT i don't know This.

Speaker 7 (15:07):
Minnesota i'm trying to think Has minnesota even been to
a conference?

Speaker 2 (15:12):
CHAMPIONSHIP m, gosh maybe Since Kevin Kevin garnett obvious that.

Speaker 3 (15:18):
Long it's been a.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
While it's probably Been Kevin. Garnett all, Right.

Speaker 7 (15:21):
So missed me on This timberwolves dynasty. Thing you're scared
that you're scared to play them, that you? Know, SERIOUSLY i, mean.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
They're the crypt The. Nuggets that's. It they're.

Speaker 7 (15:33):
Not they've they've played better than The nuggets have, recently
but they.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Haven't they haven't won squat have won.

Speaker 5 (15:41):
Anything, See, RYAN i didn't take you for a guy,
to you, know take my ball and go home type.
Guy but But i'm learning that you are that type
Of you look across the court and you start sizing guys, like,
well there's no way we're gonna be able to, compete
so you take your ball and go back.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
HOME i think you got to. Compete they gotta go out, There,
NO i. DON'T i don't expect them to.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Do we've got to develop a little toughness you've. Got,
yeah is that what it?

Speaker 7 (16:06):
Is that's what it. Is that's what it. Is if
you were in charge Of World war, two we'd be Speaking.
German i'm just, saying you can't just you can't just
cave cave, like oh, gosh this looks like it's gonna
be really tough.

Speaker 1 (16:19):
TONIGHT i, MEAN i, mean what are we? DOING?

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Whoa my mindset on it is, This and WHAT i
was saying is from the very, beginning what is your
mind seting is this is a big mental hurdle THAT
i am excited to see if The nuggets can.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Meet you've already decided though Already.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
I'm telling you Where i'm, At BUT i don't actually
go out on the. Courts it's not. Me it's not to.
Me it's not enough to. Me it's The nuggets that
have to go out there and win this. GAME i
sit over here going, like, MAN i don't, Know, man
they look terrible against this.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
Team that's What i'm.

Speaker 5 (16:50):
Saying we've we've seen The nuggets in the pass look
poor against certain, teams.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
And that's why they're not having me in for any like.
Pregame here's WHAT i would say to.

Speaker 7 (16:59):
You you the how The nuggets played Against Golden state
in the last fifteen or sixteen games and against The
lakers in the last fifteen or sixty same same. Way
do you Think Steph curry and that crew With Golden
state Or lebron and that crew with The lakers fear The.

Speaker 1 (17:22):
NUGGETS i mean they. Should why the numbers say that they?

Speaker 7 (17:26):
Should why because The, nuggets The nuggets have played better
in that stretch at the time they've played. Better, yeah
they there have been close games in that.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
Stretch eight straight road.

Speaker 7 (17:36):
WINDS i understand, That but there have been close. Games
do you see The Western Conference finals a couple of years.
Ago every one of those, games even though The NUGGETS
i think one in four and then the next year
one in, five those games were close. Games i'm just,
saying The nuggets don't need to fear The timberwolves until The,
timberwolves you, know show that they can walk through The

(17:56):
west and get to a conference final and THEN i don't,
know maybe playing the finals once every thirty years or.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
SO i love how you're using past examples as as
it somehow dictates what's happening, recent and you're.

Speaker 1 (18:14):
Not i'm using the past five. Games you're using the past.
Example i'm using The timberwolves beating The. Nuggets you're talking
about five. Games what?

Speaker 2 (18:22):
Dynasty AM i? Afraid And i'm not afraid of a.
Dynasty i'm afraid of the last five Street i'm talking
about and the way they looked.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
At the tail end of the.

Speaker 7 (18:28):
Playoffs, okay what's The nuggets record Against Golden state in
the last five matchups they've?

Speaker 6 (18:32):
Played they want? Them they're five and. Zero do you
Think Steph curry and that crew fear are? Scared SC
a R t are scared of The. Nuggets he probably
looks at all his rings and, SAYS i don't, know scared,
anything not scared of.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Nothing that's. All, OKAY i want you not to be.

Speaker 7 (18:48):
FEARFUL i don't want you to walk around in a
fearful sort of.

Speaker 2 (18:52):
TRANCE i appreciate you shouting me out to whatever that
one that was a fire up speech.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
Speech the question is did it actually? Work?

Speaker 1 (19:03):
YES i pick it tonight And i'm sure that's the
game we're.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
Picking, yeah Te wolves are, well they're underdogs, tonight SO
i get some.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
Points.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Wow, YEAH i can't believe.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
You but you know, WHAT i can't BELIEVE i should
not say. THAT I that's WHY i corrected. MYSELF i
should believe, this you, should but believe the person when
they show you who they are yes.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Anyways so we'll have a chance to come back to
that game a little bit later on we. Have that wasn't,
me that was.

Speaker 2 (19:33):
NICK i don't get to compete in this. GAME i
just get to sit and enjoy AND i will watch.

Speaker 3 (19:39):
It it's, Okay, ryan and you have no belief and nicolea.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Y i will be.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
Thrilled, OKAY i never said. That it's.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
OKAY i will be thrilled tomorrow if we crack the
mics three o'clock AND i get to, say you know, What,
dave you were. Right they finally overcame the, monster AND
i feel great about where they're headed into the.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Postseason but, yeah what over.

Speaker 5 (20:00):
Couple that's giving you an, opportunity you, know to play
your your typical seesaw that you kind of right, anyway
because well you picked against The nuggets because you were.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
PICKING i will ADMIT i was wrong for one game one.

Speaker 7 (20:12):
Night see this game IS i, mean this is an
important games GAME i DON'T i don't know if it's.
MASSIVE i think is. Important it is not the Super.
BOWL i, mean what the actual hell it is. Not
it's a.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
Game it's a.

Speaker 7 (20:27):
Game The nuggets would like to go out and play
better against this team than they have, Played but win or,
Lose i'm still taking The nuggets in the Play are
you taking The? Timberwolves how far do you think The
timberwolves will go in The Western conference?

Speaker 1 (20:41):
Playoffs Your? Timberwolves now that you know you have been
On Oak City.

Speaker 6 (20:49):
Wolves.

Speaker 7 (20:50):
Yeah by the, Way Oak, CITY i think has won
sixty three. GAMES i think there have been ten teams
that have won more than sixty two. Games eight of
those ten have won THE Nba.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
Finals so there you, Go, ryan.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
It's the what was it semipro the. Megable, yes that's all,
Right we're, off and really we Got Ian rapport joining us.
Next all, right we'll tary With Ian rapbor coming up
actually a little after four. O'clock get his thoughts on
some of the rule, changes a couple THAT i really.
Like first of, all marrying up regular season overtime with

(21:28):
the same rules that you have in the.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Postseason so remember there was two separate rules for.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Overtime there was the whoever scored a touchdown in regular
season that ended the. Game in the, postseason they said
both teams are allowed to have a possession no matter.
What now it's the SAME i think unified on that
makes a lot of. Sense AND i guess they decided
that ten, minutes even though it was on the table
to go to fifteen minutes to make it a full
quarter like they we oftentimes have in almost every other,

(21:52):
sport they opted to go a ten minute. Overtime SO
i mean that that's sort of a splitting hairs kind of.
THING i just liked that the, uniformity and that was
a thirty two zero like unanimous vote from the owners
to marry up over, Time. DAVE i, MEAN i can't
think of anybody that would have had a problem with,
That AND i think the only argument for the longest

(22:13):
time to keep it the way it was is the
qute unquote health and safety is, like, hey we don't
we don't want this thing.

Speaker 7 (22:18):
To go on any longer than it has. To, yeah
SO i GUESS i guess no, surprise no surprise that
the vote went away that it.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Did it is it is a little.

Speaker 7 (22:35):
Interesting because the league has been so vocal in terms
of implementing rules that aid in the notion of health
and safety for their. Players so that's HOW i WOULD
i mean this Rule. NOW i think it's interesting because

(22:56):
it it it sort.

Speaker 1 (22:58):
Of goes against that a little.

Speaker 7 (22:59):
Bit you're gonna be playing longer or or the chances
of you playing longer are better than they were.

Speaker 2 (23:05):
Before how do you think it impacts the? STRATEGY i,
mean it's one thing in the, postseason right when you
know both teams are guaranteed to. Possession but if now
we're a regular SEASON i just think sort of like
About Sean payton in A cincinnati game where he, said,
hey it Ties tye is, Good we'll take a tige
because then we're automatically in the. Postseason does it change
the strategy at all in the regular season when you
know both teams have a possession at?

Speaker 1 (23:26):
All for?

Speaker 3 (23:26):
You, Nick, well it will for.

Speaker 5 (23:28):
Me and from this, standpoint the way you prevent yourself
from being in that situation score as many points as
you need.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
To, score and score and keep. Scoring and you don't
really see that a.

Speaker 5 (23:40):
Lot and we look at The broncos offense last, year
WHICH i think is going to be entirely different from
what it was that The broncos had issues on third
down staying handed to change great drive, starters it's going
to Force Sean payton in his offensive stab to be
better with their play calling is going to force the
players to be better their. Execution but the one way

(24:02):
you saw that issue as far as worrying about overtime
is not being in a situation where you have to
worry about freaking, overtime so score.

Speaker 1 (24:10):
More dan points simply. Put i'm with, it.

Speaker 2 (24:14):
Honestly LIKE i said, that this one seemed to be
the biggest no brainer there was. One and we talked
about this a while, Back, dave about the kickoff and the.
Touchback they decided that they are going to move it
to the thirty, five AND i guess our, Guy Darren
rizzy is sort of the face of this.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
Move he's part of the committee that pushed this thing.

Speaker 2 (24:34):
Through it was kind of a funny moment On pat,
McAfee but they're talking About Darren, rizzy who's sort of
spearheaded this whole. Thing we'll play out in a, second but,
YEAH i mean moving this to the thirty. Five the
way they view this is this is going to be
a massive jump in. RETURNS i think they saw somewhere
around thirty three percent last year and they think this
could go between sixty and seventy percent in twenty twenty,

(24:57):
five and returns, yeah.

Speaker 7 (24:57):
They're going to put a premium on kickers having the
ability not TO i, mean get it high enough and
only deep enough that it that it's going to be.
Returned you can't just line up and power the ball
out of the back of the end zone anymore BECAUSE
i mean starting in the thirty five yard, line and
we talked about, this and if you get a couple
of first, downs you're you're.

Speaker 1 (25:18):
Almost in field goal.

Speaker 7 (25:19):
Range so it's it's in an effort to try to increase
continue the trend of trying to increase points IN nfl.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
GAMES i understand.

Speaker 7 (25:27):
It AND i also think if you can get more
of the return game back into THE, nfl given the
rules in terms of where guys line up and how
far they can run and you, know no more wedge,
blocking and there are there are limitations on, that but
if you if you can get good, returns which are you,

(25:49):
know explosion, plays which people at the stadium and people
watching the game at home listening on the, radio they
want to hear those.

Speaker 1 (25:56):
Things SO i get that. Role so this was.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Kind of a funny moment BECAUSE i Guess Darren rizzy
was reaching out To pat McAfee right before this thing went,
down and then when it did, Happen Darren rizzy was
actually texting With pat McAfee and so kind of a
funny moment during the show when they were talking about
that With Peter, schrager who now just JOINED.

Speaker 8 (26:13):
Espn when you talk about the competition committee and the
different voices who, matter, obviously like you, Know tomlin's been there,
forever and and there's voices like McVeigh who's big on
that in, McDermott but like a voice Like Darren rizzy
who's been doing the special team, stuff who's now The
Broncos Special teams. Corner he's almost a voice of, like,
hey here's what the punters and kickers, need and it's
kind of cool to have that voice, also you, know
vocalizing in those.

Speaker 9 (26:34):
Rooms, YEAH i don't want to say that Coach riz
is the one texting, me But i'll just say my
source that used to be an interim head coach and
is Now Specks Steams senate.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
Text we did.

Speaker 3 (26:45):
It it passed touchback thirty.

Speaker 7 (26:46):
Five that was The texas smart, Right, yeah, yeah, Yeah
so he's Like jack.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
Though like they're like all jacked about.

Speaker 9 (26:51):
It So, arthur you would love this crew of like
The parcels, guys and it's Like Joe vitt And Sean
pay and riz like and there was like the last
bastion of like the old, school like this is how
it should.

Speaker 8 (27:06):
Be And Baron rizzy is definitely carrying that torch.

Speaker 9 (27:10):
From the special team.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
SIDE i love, that. Right it's All parcels. Guys it's all.
Off that coaching tree is in their Nick yeah it.

Speaker 5 (27:19):
IS i know somewhere The Big tuna is sitting watching
all this unfold with a lot of his guys with
a huge smile on his. Face and as a guy
that cut his teeth in the league for so many
years on special, TEAMS i applaud this effort to kind
of bring back that excitement there is of the. KICKOFF
i know one of the guys that who was one

(27:41):
of my coaches WHEN i was at The texans and
the GUY i worked, With richard. H, tower he was
also on that group of special teams guys that helped
kind of pushed his. Forward and for, ME i MEAN
i hated it as as a player when you're facing
guys Like Josh cribs from The Cleveland browns and so
many other skilled returners. THAT i hated that from that,

(28:04):
standpoint but as a, FAN i want to see that
level of excitement come back because a lot of guys
and myself being, included made the team based on what
we were able to do on special. Teams now you
kind of bring that backing moving the ball to thirty,
five you increase, opportunities and for, Me i'm happy to,
see well What Darren rizzy can do with this, unit

(28:25):
blocking up front but also creating opportunities For Marvin.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Mims do you Think, dave that it's going to be
as significant right BECAUSE i CAN i remember us talking
about a last offseason saying how amp we were about the,
changes and we, Thought, okay this could really revolutionize the,
kickoff like it might be, significant AND i feel like
we got to the end of the season it was
kind of like it was, more but it didn't feel

(28:51):
as significant AS i AS i led myself to, believe
LIKE i built it up in my own. Head so
five more. Yards do you think it's going to be
as significant as THE? Nfl or is that your belief as?

Speaker 1 (29:02):
WELL i think the let's see yes to answer your,
question because it.

Speaker 7 (29:12):
Will, again it puts such a premium on, kickers guys
kicking off not driving the ball out of the back
of the end, zone, Right so you're going to have
to have guys that work on heighth and, direction and
you're going to have more opportunity for return teams to

(29:33):
set that return and get guys that need to have
their hands in the ball with the. Football SO i
think anytime you can do, that, yeah makes sense that
you're going to. SEE i, mean you're going to see
more explosive plays in the kicking. Game AND i think
the interesting thing, is you, know, KICKERS i, mean it
used to be some. Thinking it wasn't long ago that

(29:55):
you just line up and just kick the crap out of,
it just kick it out of the end. Zone teams
are in the TWENTY i mean. That i'm not saying it's,
easy BUT i think it's a lot easier to do
that with these guys. Nowadays the strength of their. Legs,
now all of a, sudden that's a that's a lost.
ART i, mean that thing is dead in the water

(30:15):
for the most. Part so now you've got to get,
elevation you got to get, direction so you guys have.

Speaker 1 (30:20):
A chance to get down and cover.

Speaker 7 (30:21):
It there will be a lot more sort of game
planning and strategy involved in that kickoff return game than
what we've seen the last few.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
YEARS i think this.

Speaker 5 (30:31):
Also changes how kickers are. Evaluated like you're saying that
back in the, day When dave AND i play, it
they just put leg into, it kick it as far.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
As you can.

Speaker 5 (30:40):
Now it's going to be looked at and viewed the
same way we look at, quarterbacks and you, know think
about ball placement and.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Anticipation can you do that as a?

Speaker 5 (30:50):
Kicker and whichever kicker can put the ball exactly where
we want it and need, it that's going to be
the guy that initially makes the team.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
High end of.

Speaker 7 (30:59):
Ring kick men's settles underneath it at the one a
rookie to the five to, ten the fifteen to.

Speaker 10 (31:05):
Twenty mems loose and here we Go Marvin mims the
speech their forty forty five Midfield Marvin MEM's down the,
sideline twenty, five twenty, fifteen ten to five, Touchdown Marvin.
Mims he slams the ball against the.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
BARRIER i don't blame.

Speaker 10 (31:22):
Him Marvin mims with officially a ninety nine yard touchdown
return on a, kickoff.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
As heard right here On Ka dave blowg.

Speaker 7 (31:33):
The miami game after they were behind about one hundred
and fifteen to, six and so you, Know i'm, Thinking,
okay this is. GREAT i, mean at least they had a,
big big. Play but uh, yeah, great great.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Play so are we gonna see more of that this?

Speaker 2 (31:50):
YEAR i Mean Darren, rizzy LIKE i, said he was
up there at the podium right after this thing, passed
and in it passed, NARROWLY i think of twenty five.

Speaker 1 (31:55):
Votes they barely got this thing across the.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Line But Darren rizzy's up, There he's front center with
the entire press, room and he's the one out there
champion it and talking.

Speaker 1 (32:03):
About how great this.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
Is and a lot of people, say, well, hey pro,
Bowler All pro Returner Marvin mims should have some more.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
Work.

Speaker 7 (32:10):
YEAH i think when you when you talk about a
guy Like Darren, rizzy HE i mean he is highly
thought of and very, accomplished to the point that a
lot of, PEOPLE i mean would not be familiar with
with special teams coordinators guys that have you know you
you you know who the head coaches, are most of.

(32:30):
Them you're even aware of a lot of the coordinators
offense and defense but.

Speaker 1 (32:35):
There would be how many thirty two.

Speaker 7 (32:37):
Teams if a casual, fan even a, big big time,
fan said, hey give me as many special teams coordinators
as you can, that you know that number would be pretty.
Good rizzy is sort of a top the leader board
of that. Thing SO i think it was pretty evident
When sewan decided to make a change this year on

(32:59):
special teams at the coordinator, spot he had that guy in.
Mind he's worked With darren. BEFORE i Thought darren did
a pretty good job really taking over that situation In
New orleans and sort of right in the, hip the
ship that the guys played hard for, him but that
he has really thought of in high regard around the

(33:20):
league circles as a special teams.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
COORDINATOR, yea If.

Speaker 5 (33:24):
Rizzi comes, In i'm gonna say with a low street
credit with the, players not just based on what he
was able to do stepping into that crazy Situation New
orleans as interim head, coach but what also helps. TOO i,
mean just think about his last, Name, rizzy right that
that sounds like something that today's kids have kind of

(33:44):
supplemented a word, for like. Instaid you, know when a
kid In davy coach in high school and the language has.
Changed but for you, know mid meaning that something is
kind of mid level or. Whatever but just being A
Special teams, coach knowing as though you've been at the
point and you've been behind a lot of the moves
that has been made so far with The special team,

(34:04):
changes and your name happens to Be, rizzy, Right So
I'M i am expecting The Broncos Special teams unit to
rise to a certain, level even so much so that
maybe there's an off chance we may.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
See Some RIZZY t. Shirts why are you looking at
me like?

Speaker 5 (34:22):
That?

Speaker 3 (34:23):
Ryan why are you looking at me like? That RIZZY t? Shirts?

Speaker 1 (34:26):
Man, no, no.

Speaker 3 (34:31):
Come, On Nozzy Special teams on the.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Rise, YES i get.

Speaker 9 (34:37):
IT i have.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
TEENAGERS i.

Speaker 2 (34:38):
UNDERSTAND i even told my kids when when this went,
DOWN i, say guess, what we got The wrizzler.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
And they see you, know.

Speaker 2 (34:48):
There is nothing more deflating as a father than a
grown from a teenage person.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Because you found out your kids don't find you.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
Cool busta went with eye, rolls absolute, rolls all four eyes.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
Just went straight through the roof of my, cars Like,
god we got The. Rizzler not, Impressed, yeah not.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
Impressed.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Whatsoever and you know, what even me saying outline right,
Now i'm not impressed with me.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
Either you, said but you put it in the in
the frame of words like the, RIZZLER i. KNOW i
mean it's, like is it the character from McDonald's or
something like The?

Speaker 3 (35:29):
RIDDLER i mean The. Riddler who's the guy The, hamburglar
whatever his name.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Is what the hell hamburger? Shop you've been needing that? Seriously?
Riddler that was the first THING i thought. About you
said The, riddler.

Speaker 3 (35:48):
AND i was, like is that the character from. McDonald's
i was, like, no it's.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
Not oh, god that's great Man Only Nick, ferguson all,
right we'll come. Back we Got Ian rappaport is going
to join us.

Speaker 2 (36:02):
Next we'll get his thoughts on all the rules changes
from THE nfl owners.
