Speaker 1 (00:00):
Brad'smit back there behind the glass five six six nine
zero is the text line. You guys want to get
involved in the conversation. Got James Palmer, Jimmy Palm trees
coming up four thirty here in just a little bit. Uh,
Nick and I are gonna do the tight End big board,
something we do on Broncos Country tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
We do as we fill in for David Ryan we're
not here.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
We do a big board by position, big board of
where we have them ranked for the drafts. So we'll
get to we have our tight Ends segment to us,
So we'll do that here on this show. You guys
could taste what we do on Broncos Country tonight. Uh yeah,
it's gonna be a fun day. We got Rockies Baseball
seven pm to night. Cover starts right here on KOA.

(00:40):
Promised a little bit of news before we went to
the break about an NFL starting quarterback that could be
out for the season or I Fund Network insider Ian
Rappaport reporting these Saints suddenly have a major quarterback question.
Starter Derek Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury that
threat his availability for the season. Car is weighing options

(01:03):
including the possibility the surgery.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
That's big news because my biggest issue was, well, did
Carr have this injury ending the season? And if so,
that would have been one of the one things he
should have fast tracked right away. How quickly can I
get this injury taken care of? How severe is it?

(01:28):
Is it a repair, is it a scope? These are
the type of things. Or was it something that happened
recently or something that he did not know about during
the exit physicals that he's trying.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
He's figuring that out right now.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Either way, I don't think it's something that Kellum Moore,
the current coach young coach of the Saints, probably factored in,
because if so, I'm thinking maybe he would have made
some moves during free agency to kind of change that out,
would maybe bring in Jamie Winston back.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, and here's the thing. The Saints true by the way,
draft nine in the NFL Draft. I tweeted out the
other day that they may be in the market for
a quarterback if she'd order us slide, so somebody to
keep your eye on there. They restructured Derek Carr's contract
to open up about thirty one million dollars in cap
space back on March eighth, they converted his his thirty
million base salary and his ten million guarantee roster bonus

(02:17):
to a signing bonus, which pushed money into future years
but lowered his cap this year. That's part of the
reason the Saints were able to do a few things
in free agency and be able to bring guys back
that they brought back guys like Juwan Johnson, for instance,
So you know, that's that's.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
One of those things.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
When they were talking about the salary cap and everything else,
that they had to basically do that in an effort to.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
In an effort to keep the guys they had.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Car has two seasons remaining on a four year deal
he signed back in twenty twenty three, and it will
void on the last day of the.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Twenty twenty six league year.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Now they kicked the can down the road again with
the void years and all the stuff. The Saints have
been famous for the last couple of years. But that's
interesting because that cap number and what he's brought the
table a month ago.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
You had to know this was coming a month ago.
This isn't this.

Speaker 1 (03:03):
Isn't a new injury, no, So this had to have
been known a month ago, and who knows how long
ago was actually known.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
Okay, so if they have known it about a month ago,
why wasn't that they were more active in free agency?

Speaker 3 (03:18):
We could say, okay, well, they had to restructure Car's
contract to be able to present money to any incoming
free agents.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
But I would like to think that maybe there.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Was a guy like a Jacoby Brisset, right, a guy
who's an excellent bridge player that you can get on
the low veteran minimum and you can bring in knowing
as though, hey, your quarterback could have an issue with
the show that.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
It's fascinating because we were having a conversation.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
I believe it was just last night on the NFL
six Pack when Zach Segers asked about the Saints' roster overall,
and I'm like, yeah, I mean, if everybody's healthy, this
team is a contender. I don't think you bring anybody
in because you're going to be out from under Car
in two seasons anyway, right, So for me, I don't
think you bring anybody in. I think you either have
to rookie you start Spencer Rattler. You're gearing up for

(04:02):
the Arch Manning Show, which would be fascinating, especially given
that Archie Manning used to be the quarterback for the Saints.
I think you're gearing up for the arch Manning show
and you're dumping games with Spencer Ratler quarterback.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
See.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
Then that's assuming that Kellen Moore sees some upward movement
as far as I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
I mean, did we see their quarterback play for the
Saints kind of go upward and ideas that, yeah, you
already have a young quarterback there and Spencer Rattler, But
does he possess all the skills that you want Because
every coach that comes in they want their guy from
the staff to personnel. So Spencer Rattler, albeit he has

(04:50):
some talent, I mean, Kellen Moore, as a guy who's
been in that position before as a quarterback, may not
see that same thing.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
So the Saints, with this news.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
About car, they need to someone in to kind of
carry the young quarterback for Whether it's shudor anyone.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Else, I don't know. And this is one of those
this is interesting to me.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
I mean, if you look at it, you think, right now,
if you want to be competitive, you go get Shador.
But the question is whether or not you believe in him.
If you do, then you go get him. If you
don't think he's the guy, that you don't. But it's
fascinating because if you don't believe in Shador Sanders or
Jackson Dart or Jylen Milroe or whomever, Right, if you
don't believe that's the guy, then don't get don't draft him,
Go Spencer Ratler and put yourself in position in the

(05:29):
next draft where you got a couple of the guys,
including a legacy.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Player at arts Mannett. So lose games, hope that you
find yourself with.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Spencer Rattler out there and if he's the guy, you win,
and if he doesn't, you're in line to go get
the guy.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
I don't I don't like that that philosophy because obviously
we've seen teams push the can down the street. Obviously
when you look at this particular draft, you say, well,
there's not like a lot of marking names, and let's
be totally honest. We've seen you know, Arch play well
at Texas, but then we still saw Sarkeysing go.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Back you know to Quinn yours.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Right, So so that's the case, and you want a
piece of Texas, go out to get Quinn.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Let let yours be.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Your guy, because Arch had an opportunity when yours was
hurt for a while to take over. He played, He
played pretty decent, But then what what did SARV do
the moment where he went back to him?

Speaker 2 (06:27):
He didn't have to. I know, the whole idea started
to lose the job.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
But you know, I mean, if you looked at the
way youers play when he came back, he probably shouldn't
have gone to him.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
But to me, I've been I don't think you put
your team in that situation. If Shador is there, you
take him at nine. You want to move away from Derek,
you therefore can because it's about showing the Saints fans
as a new coach coming in, you're trying to build
upon something. I mean, you just can't put the Palls
button on and say, well, hold on, two years from now,
we're gonna get him be two years from now. If

(06:57):
I'm a fan of the Saints, I don't want to
hear that.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
What about a Kirk Cousins And I don't think they don't.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Have the cap space.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I mean, you just don't in division and you there's
how and I don't know how you'd pull that off well.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
And first of all, I mean, he's Kirk Cousins, So
what is it that you're actually getting.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
You've already seen that movie.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Kirk.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Kirk doesn't have any ties to that offense anyway.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Like Kirk Oldly plays in Shan he done in West
Coast offenses, he Kellen Moore, he has no experience whatsoever
with that offense.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
I can't see Kirk Cousins doing that Cleveland. Yeah, I
could see that. Stefanski runs a very at the West Coast.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
And then Zach Robinson's who was office coordinated for the Falcons,
spent some time with McVeigh, same offense that Kurt has
been in this high season.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
And if we saw Kurt diminish in the.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
Offense that he's quite familiar with, and now you want
to put him in this situation where he's unfamiliar with
the offense, talk about really exposing his weaknesses.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
You don't want to do that.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, the last thing you want to do is learn
an entirely new offense with the tail end of your career.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
I mean, that's just had to do it. Peyton Manny
had to do it. Yeah, but they kind of went
back to what he knew.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
You know, they tried that in training camp and then
they were like, oh, it doesn't work, and so they
went back to you know, they went back to when
we saw what happened. Batty Payton is already dealing with injury.
He just fell off a cliff, you know, trying to
do that. So I don't I can't see that. I
can't see a scenario where the Saints would go with
the Kirk Cousins route.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Okay, so since we talked about a quarterback, what about
Teddy Buce? That's the name I was going with. Right there.
They try to lure, you know, trying to go to Gloves.

Speaker 3 (08:25):
You know, see Teddy two Gloves is interested in coming in,
and you bring in Shador and you let Shador sit
behind Teddy two Gloves for a bit and then you
hand the reins over to uh Shador.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Isn't Teddy back with the Lions though?

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Well, Teddy won the I guess high School champions State
championship right with Northwestern.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
And then he kind.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
Of went back to the lives of the playoff run.
I don't know if he's still on the contract.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
I don't know he's still on the contract with with
the Lion with the name.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
I was thinking, I'm like, man, this might be the
only thing I could think of.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
It might be something. I don't know. I'm not sure
if he I don't think he's still in a contract
with Detroit, so I don't think he is. I don't
think he is. But yeah, that's the only name I
could think of him, Like, I don't. I mean, what
are we doing here?

Speaker 3 (09:14):
Because basically, what you need a guy that is dependable,
he's reliable, you know exactly who and what he is,
and you know he can function in your offense and
you can build an offense around him. Now, I don't
believe that Keller Moore has any familiarity with Teddy Bridgewater.
But if you're looking for veteran guys, and there's not
a lot of veteran guys that are still out there

(09:35):
that you want to bring in that has quality, started experience,
Teddy has proven that he can actually come in and
just kind of, you know, fill the shoes until you
hand it off to someone else, And that would be
an idea person to kind of move things along. But
I'm sure when you think about Mickey Loomis and what
they're trying to figure out with Kellen Moore? How do
we move forward? But more or less, who made this mistake?

(09:58):
Why do we know about this sooner? Why is Derek
card now I'm looking at so showed the surgery now
opposed to right after the season.

Speaker 4 (10:05):
So would you draft Shador and bring in Teddy Bridgewager Bridgewater?

Speaker 2 (10:10):
Yes, of course? Why not? I mean, here's ideas.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Most fans look at it this way, and some people
in front offices. If you are void of a quarterback, star,
any quarterback, and this one on the board, you go
draft your guy. And some people want to throw them
out there and say, well, you know, baptism by fire,
But that's not always the best thing to do for
that particular quarterback. And it's not to say that a
kid is coming out of college and he's not prepared

(10:34):
to take over. But I can tell you coming in
the league as a player of another position, I mean,
it's really tough.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
But think about it. You're coming in at the position.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
That most fan bases and organizations look at. We need
you to be our savior. Think about what's how Cincinnati
viewed Joe Burrow. They wanted him to be their Serbia,
and not every quarterback is ready for that because they
can't handle the bumps.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
And the bruises. He wasn't ready for it exactly.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
And then they didn't have a quality offensive line. Of
what happened to him, he got injured, he broke his leg.
So to me, it's best to have a fall guy.
How about that, have a guy stand out there and
get beat pummeted to death while you keep your quarterback
of the future on the sideline watching kind of.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Like Brisset with uh Drake May last year.

Speaker 3 (11:21):
Yes, and so what did we see at the end
of the season from Drake May?

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Much better? Much better.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
I'm just trying to think of any quarterbacks that have
experience with Kellen Moore, and it's not that many. I
mean Trey Lance who already signed with the Chargers. Do
you want to take a shot at that.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Nope, Cooper Rush and he signed with the I think
it was the Ravens. If I'm not mistaken. Yes, he's
Eastern stick.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
He's just there's just no there's nobody that has already
for you. Yeah, because it's Saint Justin Herbert staying with
Chargers and Jalen hurts to stay with the Eagles at
least what Tanner McKee I think, is there the guy
who might have some experience with Are you bringing Tanner
McKee in?

Speaker 3 (12:04):
I mean, you still got Brett Rippin out there, let
it rip, But that would be a no for me.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
That would be a no for me.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
But we do know this news is definitely change what
we might have thought the quarterback position was gonna look
like and who was gonna go where because let's just
say someone else takes Chador off the board early, then
the leaves Jackson Dart.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Well, that's what I was just saying.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
I know the Saints had some interest in Jackson Dart.
Maybe that's the direction they go.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
The only quarterbacks on the Saint roster right now are
Spencer Ratler, but we saw a little bit of last year,
Jay Hayter, who we saw a little bit of last year,
and then former Bronco Ben Denucci.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
I wouldn't mind him, See, I wouldn't mind seeing them
give Spencer Rattler a real shot.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
But that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
I mean, anroal Ratler out there and say, look, if
you're the guy you're gonna be the guy, and if not,
the next year, we're going after Arch Manning.

Speaker 4 (12:58):
Anyway, I mean, people forget how highly touted of a
prospect Spencer Ratler was, and he was in the Heisman
conversation before Caleb Williams took over for him at Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Just the quarterback drafted immediately after Bonicks.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
So that means Kellen Moore, who has had experience backing
up Deck Prescott and then being his offensive coordinator and
then now being Jalen Hurt's offensive coordinator. There's something there
to recognizing the skill set. But now do you have
the talent to run what you.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
Want to run?

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Because don't forget Chris Alive a very talented wide receiver
out of Ohio State. He missed a lot of time
last year because of concussions. So so so what do
you do? So if Spencer Ratler is your is your choice?
I mean, what are you doing in the draft? And
I don't even know what their pick? Draft picks look like.
That's an overall pick, yeah, but that's ninth overall, But

(13:53):
you still have to feel a competitive roster and Albacamara
is not just gonna be your only go to guy.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Well, they've got Brandon Cooks, Rashid Shaheed who looked like
a star last year at the slot, Brandy Cooks and
we all I think are aware of in Chrystal Lobby.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Those are the starting through receivers.

Speaker 1 (14:07):
You've got Foster Moreau and Jawan Johnson brought back his
both tight ends, Kamara, Kendre Miller, Clyde Edward Hilaire who
they signed his running backs. I mean they've got skill
position players. The offensive line is taking a little bit
of a hit. Now you're at Trevor Pennings, he's a ruiz,
Eric McCoy, Dylan Raddin's and Talisi Fuaga who you just
drafted so last year. So I mean the pieces are here.

(14:30):
If you've got the right quarterback, you've got the pieces
here to make it work.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
If I am Mickey Loomis and I am newly acquired
young head coach kill the Moore, You've played the position,
You've seen what that looks like going from Dallas going
to Philadelphia. If you have a guy now you wanted
to take him, now, could that be your door?

Speaker 2 (14:51):
I don't know. I don't know. It could be Jackson Dawt.
But the idea is that you have to make a choice. Yeah,
that you do. We come back.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
James Palmer's going to join us here on KAI Sports
and bring on our guy, James. Paul Mercy in your
NFL reporter at Underdog and with Bleacher Report.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
James, how you doing, buddy?

Speaker 5 (15:13):
Guys? This is a virtual digital what is it? Phone call?
I saw you in the flesh recently. It was wonderful.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (15:20):
This doesn't compare to that, but it's close.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
We we We don't get together often enough. Man, we
gotta get together. We gott get some barbecue. Make it happen.
We'll get that. We'll get that. I have all people.
Call your people will make it happen.

Speaker 5 (15:31):
Do it now?

Speaker 2 (15:32):
You Before we get to some football stuff, there's a
lot going on right now.

Speaker 1 (15:35):
I used to work on inside the NBA, used to
a little bit of NBA coverage. What did you think
of the Michael Malone and Calvin Booth firings by the Nuggets.

Speaker 5 (15:44):
It's it's it's a wild game in the league right now. Man.
I I don't really get the Michael Malone side of things.
I think there's more to uh to Booth and I
think you can dive into that and probably have a
couple more answers than Michael Malone. But it's been it's
been interest thing, man, it has especially when you have
a superstar of Yokick and involved in the mix and

(16:06):
kind of everybody's curious what role that person plays. I
think he's different than other superstars, but obviously that's the
question that comes up. I mean, this is kind of
rock the league a little bit, probably the biggest news
since since the Luca trade. In all honesty, you.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Know what, James, I definitely have to ask you as
a guy who you constantly. You live here in Different
Colorado and there's a big game tonight between you know,
the Memphis Grizzlies and the Different Nuggets as they tried
to continue to stay out of that one.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Game playing playing game.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
Do you think with the departure of Michael Malone that
this team still has what it takes to get to
the playoffs and make some noise.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
Yeah, you got the best player in the world. I mean,
I didn't know we were doing NBA here, guys. For Yeah,
I mean I'm a fan of the p but yeah,
I mean they definitely do. I mean, honestly, like, I
think they have the ability to do it. Obviously, there's
been plenty that haven't gone exactly the way they want.
RUSS hasn't worked out exactly the way they wanted it to,
and that's my opinion, no surprise, but yeah, they have

(17:09):
the ability to do it. Whether they put it together
is going to be the hard part.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Only the second time in Denver history that RUSS hasn't
worked out the way that they wanted it too.

Speaker 2 (17:17):
Let's pivot over here to football. The big news of
the day.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
I don't think a super surprise to people in the know,
but a little bit of surprise certainly out there. Derek
Carr with the shoulder issue, possibly out for the season
for the Nordlands Saints. Where does that put them at
this point? We've gone back and forth a little bit here.
I suggested, you know what, roll with Rattler. If it works,
it works. If it doesn't, you're in line for arch
Manning and the legacy pick there. Anyway, Nick suggests bring

(17:42):
in maybe a Teddy Bridgewater or somebody.

Speaker 4 (17:44):
At this point, what say you, Well, I'll start.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
With the draft. At first, they have been looking in
one of the teams that's probably been more active, honestly,
looking at quarterbacks and maybe a little bit under the
radar in some people's opinion, but they have been looking
at quarterbacks. They have been kind of looking around the
league at nine if that's something that they want to do.
I think the biggest thing is they need to get
cheaper at a position, and why not get cheaper at
a premium position moving forward. That's why some people think

(18:09):
the draft might be where they go, and also the
draft in twenty twenty six. You're right, they could be
potentially in a position with an aging roster that's getting
expensive to find a way to get cheaper at a
premium spot at the quarterback position. Honestly, with the Joe
Flacca news today, I was sitting here going, what is
Kirk Cousins thinking? Like right now? Like what's going through
Kirk's mind? Atlanta doesn't really want him there, He doesn't

(18:31):
really want to be there. Everybody kind of penciled in
the Browns. I kind of wasn't really in that group,
and now he's left without the landing spot. Everything that
the Falcons are waiting on is really kind of what
you're seeing in your happen in New Orleans, which it
looks like they're going to hold on a car through
the draft, probably by Friday. If somebody doesn't have a quarterback,

(18:52):
the team move to a spot. I don't know if
that's exactly the case now with Flacco, So what they
were going to do is hold on to him as
long as possible until something happens. This is something, honestly,
and I don't think it will take a whole lot
to get Cousins out of out of Atlanta. Maybe six
million bucks late rounds swap maybe, But I think you're
going to kick the tires obviously on a couple of

(19:12):
different veterans. But a Tolen has a lot on his
plate on what he's trying to do in New Orleans
in terms of flipping the culture and what he wants
to instill offensively. But they are looking in the draft,
I know, that's for sure, And maybe this changes the
thinking a little bit. We'll see, but yeah, this is
a monkey wrench for New Orleans who really thought that

(19:33):
Carr was at least just their starter for twenty twenty
five and then regroup now it might happen a little sooner.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
Well, James of Broncos said at twenty.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
And I guess we've been going back and forth as
far as what we think that the Broncos should do.
I'm in favor of the Broncos moving back to collect pigs,
but at twenty there's still some value even though they're
outside the top ten. And for me, I can help
but think that everything that this organization is going to
try to do is build around Bow. So with that
being said, I'm going to give you three wide receivers.
Can you just tell me if the Broncos were to

(20:02):
stay at twenty and they were to take a wide receiver,
which of these three guys I'm about to give you
would you like to see in the Broncos uniform.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
The first guy's Matthew.

Speaker 3 (20:09):
Goin out of Texas, to Terry McMillan out of Arizona.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
And the last guy Jaydon Higgins. Out of those three.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Guys, which guy would you James Palmer like to see
in the Broncos uniform?

Speaker 5 (20:19):
And why I love Higgins. I just think twenty is
too rich for Higgins probably, But I think the world
of Jadan Higgins. I think he's going to be a really,
really good two in this league. He's got that dog
in him, I think, much more than Timac does in
all honesty. And then I'm not alone in that thinking.
I'll go Matthew Golden. I think Matthew Golden's a really,

(20:40):
really good player. I think he's on the rise. I
think he doesn't play at the speed of the forty,
which was I think a four to two nine, right.
He doesn't play at that speed, but that shows you
in the forty that speed's there. I think with the
proper coach, and you can probably unleash it a little
bit more. But he can play all over the field
for you. I think that helps. I think the versatility helps.
I think he's been climbing in a lot of people's

(21:03):
minds and a lot of people's boards for a reason.
And I think he was the better of the two
Texas receivers. It's not even close. He's much more of
a complete receiver. I think he can help you right away,
which is what the Broncos need. But you mentioned trading back.
I think they'd love to. I think there's a lot
of teams that would love to trade back. I think
all those teams are looking for somebody to trade up,

(21:23):
and I don't know who wants to move up in
this draft, and I think that's gonna be the hard part.
About trying to move back.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Yeah, that's what it takes two to tangos. We talked
with James Palmer James Palmer TV on the Twitter. That
is sort of the thing, I mean, and some of
those guys may not even be there. We talked about
Matt Golden Hard, rumors that Miami might be interested there
that you know, they got the DISCARDLD, the Tyrene Kill
thing and all that. Who knows how that situation will
work itself out. We'll sort of see as far as
the Broncos go. There are other things that could be

(21:50):
in play. Obviously, need a running back. We've heard rumors
of a mari and Hampton, Tradeon Henderson. If they are
sitting there at twenty. How surprised would you be if
it's a running back? Would you be if it's not
running back?

Speaker 5 (22:03):
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a back. I mean, obviously,
this is a deep class, and I think that's going
to impact the way things go in the first round.
I think three backs go in the first raft. But
I think it's kind of funny because I think, and
I'll mention all three guys. I think actually the depth
of the class could impact Ashton Genty in maybe a
negative fashion in a little bit. We know that he's
in a lot of people's boards the third best player

(22:24):
in this raft. But also, are you going to get
the value if you're the Raiders at six, if you're
you know, sitting there, if you're the Jet that's oeven,
I don't think they take them. But do you do
you kind of go, maybe we should go d line,
Maybe we should go offensive tackle. Well, we're going to
run out at that position maybe and we can get
it back later in the draft. Does that make Genty
fly a little bit? I know Amarion Hampton's been mocked

(22:46):
to the Broncos in pretty much every mock draft that's
on the planet, But I think Travion Henderson goes in
the first round too, And honestly, I look at both
those backs for Denver and let's break them down. I
think I think Hampton kind of reminds a lot of
people to what Mark Ingram did with Sean Payton, And
I think Sean did a great job with Inger. He's
kind of a you know, if he's on his track,

(23:07):
he's really really good. You know, if you open up
holes for him, he'll take massive advantage.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Of it.

Speaker 5 (23:11):
A lot of people look at that where he was
playing in college, and I think this offensive line can
do that for him. What I look at in Trevan
Henderson is I don't think anybody pass protects like him
in this draft. And I'm not sure how close number
two is to him. It's outstanding. I mean, this isn't
a bias guys of the Ohio State University two degrees
from there, no big deal. But what he does is

(23:32):
he has the ability to protect your quarterback. And I
don't know, Javonte Williams played a ton of snaps mainly
because of his pass protection. I think that's something that's
valued here. And I think Henderson has a home run ability.
He has that kind of feel of Jamier Gibbs and
did that have a play in the way people think
in the first round about backs and so, and I
think Henderson kind of fit that. I wouldn't be surprised

(23:54):
if he went in the back end of the first
I won't be surprised to went all the way up
to ten at the Bears. Like he is an interesting back.
It throws a little bit of a wrinkle into what
people are looking at with these running backs. I think
he fits what Denver wants to do.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
James, when we were up there last week.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
At Boulder, I saw you and your your counterpart of
Steve Smith, who played a receiving this league and I
played against it for a number of years.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
I'm wondering because I know you.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
Guys have had conversations walking into that building last week,
but also walking out of the building, and we all got.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
A chance to see Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
But I want to know from the spective that you've
had with Steve, what did you guys discuss. As far
as you know, Travis is route running, but the fact
that he was out there catching passes with no gloves on.

Speaker 5 (24:40):
Yeah, I'll take the first part the route running. I'll
just be honest. And Nick you probably saw this first
hand too, Like none of those routes are going to
be run on Sunday in the NFL. Like they really aren't.
Like they weren't routes, They weren't things that are in
your playbooks, you know what I mean. What it was
was just display the unmatched aff letic, the unmatched twitch

(25:01):
that he has in this draft. I mean, the amount
of dancing he did before he got off the line
of scrimmage. I'm not sure what offensive line holds up
that long, but I think we got to see the
athlete that he is, and I think our conversation leading
with this, And obviously I respect the opinion maybe better
than anybody's when it comes to evaluating receivers. And so
I'll just kind of tell you what he told me.

(25:22):
It was, this is a kid that can be a
Pro Bowl receiver. He is far from a finished product,
and there's a lot of refinement that needs to happen
in his game. Now, Steve will tell you that's no
knock on his game. Right, he was playing two positions.
He's not refined on either side. But as smart as
Travis is and as intelligent as his football IQ is,

(25:45):
he has the ability to refine those, probably very quickly
in a lot of people's minds. But there's little things
within his routes where Steve was just telling me things
that you know, I don't even see guys who play
it at a I think he's a Hall of Famer
type of level. Is. Look, he drops his hands before
he ends up, you know, you know, settling into a
into a break. DB's gonna read that like an NFL
dB is And so some of those things are just

(26:07):
going to need to be cleaned up. But the athleticism,
she was like, it's through the roof, Like the twitch
is through the roof. The hands, the way he snatches
the football is outstanding. And he did really really well
for someone who as of that morning decided to work out.
So I think the workout went really really well in
terms of showing off the athleticism. I think it also

(26:28):
showed all of us that, you know, whatever side he
plays more on in the league or whatever he does,
even on both sides, the NFL coaching and the position
coach is going to be extremely important because there is
refinement that needs to happen. He's going to be able
to do it. It's just going to be. It just
needs to need to be done.

Speaker 1 (26:46):
With James Palmer at James Pulver TV on Twitter, you
mean the quadruple shishak with the shallow in is not
an NFL quick game or outside.

Speaker 5 (26:54):
I got a yeah, I know, I got a text
from a receiver coach in the league who was like,
you're there, right, yeah, Like what are these routes? Like?
These are not in the playbooks. These are not in
a playbook. But man, what an athlete.

Speaker 1 (27:11):
I think they served their purpose in that regard. We're
talking a bit ago about the Saints and the Derek carthing.
Do you think this puts Aaron Rodgers in play for
the for the Saints at all?

Speaker 5 (27:19):
I didn't think about that, honestly, I really didn't. And
you know, I think this situation, though, is worth mentioning about.
You know why Aaron's kind of sitting here. I think
if he loved the situation in Pittsburgh, he would have
already jumped at it, and people in the locker room
wouldn't be as annoyed as they are right now. I'm
not saying all of them, but some of them, and
this would have been moved along a little bit further.

(27:40):
I think he still is that guy who, like I
like my high school girlfriend. But I'm also walking around
the County Fair kind of with another eye, kind of
looking around to see what else is there, and it
kind of seems kind of more of his vibe. But
to me, honestly, then, like what team can win more
games than twenty twenty five? I think it's Pittsburgh, Like
I definitely I think it's Pittsburgh, honestly, and so I

(28:04):
maybe it is, but also I know financially it would
be difficult. I don't think. I don't think Aaron is
going to demand the world to my understanding in terms
of contract wise, that's already even hammered out with the Steelers.
If something, you know, eventually kind that comes to fruition.
But I still think it's going to be sizable, and
I'm not sure how Pittsburgh can do it. I mean
New Orleans can do it.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
Jane, do you.

Speaker 3 (28:25):
Think that players should have more input as to.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
Where they're drafted?

Speaker 3 (28:30):
Because I know, obviously it seem like all the powers
in the hand of the teams because they're the ones
doing the selecting. But it's only a handful of players
over our time in the NFL that have been able
to do that. But you think more players do to
nils should be able to somewhat have a little more
direction as far as what teams select them.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Well, I do think they have more power with NIL.
Here's an insane sat that I heard and was told
and I just need to throw that. I need a
platform throw this out in so appreciate the question. Rock Purty,
if he was playing college football last year, would have
been the thirtiest highest paid NIL quarterback Rock Purty. Like

(29:12):
that shows you where college football has gone. We had
a quarterback have a hold in today due to a
contract dispute at the collegiate level. Like I was on
the phone with the position coach today who was like,
this is out of control, man, and honestly, just real quick.
He kind of hinted at something I thought was kind
of interesting where he said, if players are going to
be able to transfer like this, and players are going

(29:32):
to be able to move around like they are in
college football, and you see certain players get more targets
than other players in the offense because of their NIL money,
which is kind of similar to the NFL with contracts.
But his thing was they should be able to cut dudes.
You should be able to release a guy from your
program if you wanted to. It can't just be one way,

(29:53):
but anyway, the players have more The players have more
power they do have with NIL, the ability a little
bit more so to by their time. I think you
can pick your draft a little bit easier than you
used to. Right, you could stay another year if you'd like,
if it doesn't favor your position, or if it doesn't
favor your development at that moment. The rush to come
out has now departed because of the money you can

(30:15):
make in the league, So I think you can dictate
from that standpoint. I do think there's going to be
a few players that were seeing develop more power in
the draft process. We saw Marvin Harrison Junior go out
there and just not work out for anybody or do anything.
Now Marvin asked teams if they needed to see anything
and they said no. But like I think players are

(30:36):
getting a little bit more power in the process. I
think that the evaluation process is changing as well. Guys
are just not running the forty anymore. Have you noticed,
like there's not running anymore, There's not working out as much,
and so the fall is becoming more important and scouting
to making sure you get out to these teams and
see them in person. So player power has increased in

(30:56):
all of these things I mentioned play apartment, but when
it comes to the actual draft process, it's still very
difficult to dictate where you're going to play. But I
do think you can have a little bit more dictation
in terms of your future by creating some of the
other variances.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
You know, one of the things when nil money was
announced that.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
I said, it's like, if if this thing goes the
way I think it is, one day we're going to
have quarterbacks making decisions on whether.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
Or not to stay in school for the money.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
And it sort of feels like we're saying we're kind
of there, you know, in some ways, with the way
this thing keeps escalating, we are.

Speaker 5 (31:28):
And the interesting part about it is some teams in
the NFL are not opposed to it. If you go
look at what go Nicks did and what Jayden Daniels
did this last year. They came in because of their
time in college football so pro ready like so like
nothing wowed. They spent a lot of time. It's not
an Anthony Richardson situation. There's a ton of starts, and
some of these people in the league are going Our

(31:49):
conversations are different. A lot of starting to do a
GM the other day about it, who was like, because
of nil money and this guy's made a couple of
million dollars already. Our conversation is much more mature, it's
much more or advanced because he's been in business meetings.
He really has right. They don't hand you nil money
and ask you like not for anything in return right,
And so these business meetings that they're in, they're they're

(32:11):
kind of getting some life lessons and sabbiness to where
some people thought it was going to be a negative
a couple of years ago, some teams are definitely looking
at as a positive. Going that's a little more polished
of an individual and a human and staying in school
is not bothering a whole lot of these A lot
of these teams, unless it's like a corner who I
was talking to somebody today is like, we're going through

(32:32):
prospects and they're like, this guy's twenty three and a
half's twenty two. They're like, how old are these guys
coming in quarterback? It doesn't matter as much.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
Yeah, Well, and they're getting more reps to which I
think is better, you know for some of these guys.
So as well, you mentioned Brock Party a little bit ago,
and I wanted to run up maybe a hypothetical buy
you here, because they were, you know, Black Party in
the forty nine or were far apart on an extension
back in a senior Bowl COMBA. I know're a twenty
million apart. I don't know where they are now, but
they were roughly you know forty and sixty, they were
roughly twenty million apart. Is there any scenario here where

(33:02):
they don't get something done and the Niners have to
move on from brock party and that's the Kirk Cousins
landing spot where you finally get Kirk and Mac and
Kyle together the way you always.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Wanted, you know.

Speaker 5 (33:13):
I honestly like they are closer. You're right, they were
far apart. They certainly were. They definitely are closer. I
think it's going to be probably in the low fives.
It's kind of my guess. I think the the Niners
would love for it to that number, to start with
a four per year, but I don't think that's going
to be possible. I think they made up their mind
mid season though, Like during their bye week, they made

(33:34):
a decision that perties their guy moving forward, and nobody
in the room, to my understanding, thought it questioned it.
They all were in Uh, it was a unanimous decision
to say, like that's who we're moving forward with. Now
we'll see, like this is an agent that doesn't have
a whole lot of guys. This is going to probably
drag out with those terms of representatives sometimes to make
sure that we you know, we get the most we can.

(33:55):
But I don't know if they move on from them.
I think they seem pretty set in where he's at.
I do want to mention one thing with Kirk, like
I'm you know, I've mentioned the Browns, we've mentioned in
this conversation. Does he go to the New Orleans we
mentioned in this conversation? Now does he come with Kyle
and you know, have an ability to play there in
San Francisco. There's plenty of people in the league that
just believe Kirk is done. Like I've talked to it.

(34:18):
Enough of them that are, like, watch the film, there's
nothing left and this happens sometimes in the quarterbacks, right,
they fall off a cliff like it does happen. I
mean this God led the NFL in interceptions. He was
benched for a reason, like the Falcons believe he is done,
like cannot play football anymore. So I'm curious what Kyle
thinks because the other part is who knows him extremely
well and had an ische had an opening at quarterback.

(34:41):
Kevin Stefanski. He was his quarterback coach, he was his
offensive coordinator. He knows Kirk extremely well. If he wasn't
super aggressive at just finding a way to make some
sort of trade. That kind of tells me to somebody
who know him well, maybe think he doesn't have anything left.
Like I think this Kirk evaluation is really interesting and
we're all just saying the name when we didn't. We

(35:04):
kind of sit here and evaluate the way he played
last year.

Speaker 2 (35:08):
Yeah, it's been bad, James, We're out of time. We
appreciate it as always. Gotta get you on BCT here soon, man.

Speaker 1 (35:14):
Yeah, let's do it brother, Looking forward to hear from
you again soon.

Speaker 5 (35:18):
That was good. Better yep.

Speaker 1 (35:20):
James Palmer at James Palmer TV on Twitter. Always a
great follow and a great conversation. Great dude, best hair
in the business too.

Speaker 5 (35:27):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
When we come back, we're gonna get into our tight
end big board.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
Let you guys know where Nick and I ranked the
tight ends in this coming draft Broncos.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Maybe the market for one. Listen to Kay Sports here
