Speaker 1 (00:00):
Lando Franklin in studio Big what's up man?
Speaker 2 (00:02):
What's up? Fellas man? I'm just hanging out. Before we
came on there, Dave said, I had a perplexed look
on Yeah, yeah, brow. Well, you know, I got a
phone call from a number that I just don't know.
And anytime I get a phone a number pops up
on my phone and I don't have it saved. I
don't want to talk to you. I don't even like people.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
I know, I do this for a living, and I'm
you know, this is what I kind of got to do.
But I really, you know, after we cut and I'm
done for the day, I might say a hundred words total,
you know, whether that was before the show or after
the show. Not a big talker, So when I see
a phone number that I don't know, I'm just like,
who the heck is this and why they call me?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
They're probably hitting you up about your toll that you
owe the tolls, you know, because you're overdue, you know, those.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Kind of ir it's that time of year.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Two days later, but just saying, you know, like, hey.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
I've been getting extensions since I got drafted to the NFL.
I've heard about.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
I've heard about that. I've heard about that. I've heard
about that. Well, I'm same way, I don't I don't answer.
My wife is funny because she just doesn't like talking
on the phone period. So sometimes even if she recognizes that,
where she's like, I'm just not good, they can text me.
She's not a phone person. She's like, we we've grown
past that. Don't need to talk on the phone. If
I don't have to, I will text you.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
She says that to you, No, I'll take the call.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
Else to other people, she just said, like a family
member's other family members, her parents, you can text me.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
It was the.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Worst, Like wow, what about when it's like somebody that
like they got your number, but you don't really know
how they got your numbers, so you don't really want
to talk to them.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
So it's like, okay, you know, expect you to know
it's down. Hey, how'd you give my number?
Speaker 5 (01:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:48):
No, but this is after that you had a couple
of conversations. I'm the tourist for being like, man, yeah,
I lost my phone. Sorry, you know, and who is this?
You know that I should have this person's number because
we've been communicating for the last like half a deck.
Yeah you know, but yeah, menah, you gotta call me
a couple of times before you get saved in that
phone book, you know what I mean? There you go,
(02:08):
there you go.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
They were you you you liked talking on the phone.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Nope, no not you understand. I mean if you and.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
I'm a little horse today, but if you, if you
talk for a living, I'm I'm more like, oh like
when I go home and before I get here, you know,
it's sparse. I'm not anti people, but when you when
you talk all the time, I just don't have that
(02:36):
much to say. Really, I mean, I really don't. I'm
I'm I'm a more of.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
A listener than a talker, he says the talk show host.
But it touches up. My four and a half year
old had this a little like evaluation at his school, right,
and my wife did this this zoom thing. You know,
they're kind of going over the findings and all this.
And she calls me today and I literally she goes
on a twelve minute round this is what's happened, this
(03:01):
is what's going on, this is everything's normal, This isn't that.
And at the end of the conversation, I'm like okay,
sounds good, talk to you later. Like like she talked,
it was literally okay, sounds good, talk to you later,
love you by. That was all good. She understands, she
knows what she got married to all.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Somebody on the text line says, hey, Orlando is calling
about your car warranty.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Please pick up.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yeah, wow, wow, I just got that thing a couple
of months ago.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
The next time answering, just say I'm good yeah, or.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Just hello, who's this? What do you look at?
Speaker 3 (03:36):
No, hangout, it's always that pause, that beat right if
you do not answer.
Speaker 6 (03:40):
If you answer a call that you don't know, hello,
and there's a pause, you immediately hang out immediately.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Might be the fastest reflex thing I do in my life.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Sam call it is.
Speaker 1 (03:54):
You already know, you already know.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
And then once the once they get you on, they
find every way to sort of keep few in that
they've got. They're good, They're very good. No, No, I think,
are you sure? Because you know we have this other thing.
I'm like no, I really, I'm really sad.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Thank you. I appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
And if it's important, they'll shoot you a text. Because
I got a call two days ago and it was
that little pause, so I immediately hung up, and then
it was Hey, Orlando, it's such and such from this place,
and we know that you got to get an MRIs
and we're calling and literally she was like, she gave
me a couple of dates and a couple of times
and I didn't have to get back a nice, nice
next to one PM.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
I was like, perfect, lady, gets it better that to
get the MRI than you want to.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
Make sure you get that.
Speaker 6 (04:36):
I'm two decades or early, No, you ain't no two
decades early thirty seven at one before.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
I have got one before. A couple of years ago.
I did get one because I was having some stomach
issues when I was playing with.
Speaker 6 (04:50):
The Church African Americans. You y'all got to get yeah,
a little earlier than us. Pale faces.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, I'm forty five.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You're close?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (05:00):
You're closed?
Speaker 1 (05:01):
They told me last year, said next year, next year.
Speaker 6 (05:03):
Here's what I want you to do the first two
for me, because I did so poorly with anesthesia. The
first two I did with like a handshaking a grin.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Just raw dog did. Stayed up and just hung out.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
I just hang out.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
I was hanging out. I was definitely hanging out, but no,
no anesthesia. But uh, I've had worse. Okay, you know,
so I want you to try it.
Speaker 1 (05:37):
Okay, I'll keep it in mind.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
No, I gotta go to night night. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
I was gonna say, but I usually have a bad
reaction to anesthesia too, you do.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Yeah, I'm saying, Okay, the.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Right dosage self administered. No, yeah, right, we've we've seen
we've seen how that works out.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
That's great. That's so great.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
That so great.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
We got it's really amazing, interesting things to get you.
Speaker 1 (06:00):
Coach Prime has spoken, boy Dave.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
I mean, there's a lot of things gonna be We
heard from George Peyton and Sean Payton today.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
We'll get to some of the sound from them.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Uh, we've got the Rockies they fired their hitting coach
to talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Clint Hurdle now back in the mix. That's on the docket,
NBA Playoffs, all.
Speaker 3 (06:18):
Sorts of things, but it kind of all pales in
comparison to this story that we've been following all week
long about the Colorado Buffalo is announcing on Monday that
they are going to induct or they're going to retire
the numbers number two and number twelve, Shug Sanders and
Travis Hunter.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
We finally heard from Coach Prime today. You ready, you're
ready for this? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah, all right, I'm ready.
Speaker 6 (06:43):
I'm just checking your blood flush pressure's say dy, you
ain't gonna get a rise out of me.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Okay, I'm good too. Yeah, but I just I want
to check because I haven't heard it. I don't think
you're gonna love this.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
What does he does he name me?
Speaker 3 (07:00):
I mean no directly, but he talks about he talks,
I mean a couple of times about the former buffs
buffs alum that are upset and.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Okay, well then you know what, let's hear it.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Let's hear it, all right.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So here was a little bit of a back and
forth earlier today to play for you know.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Righttat Jersey can be a can be a source South
DrAk Not really.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
This is the first time I ever seen is sore
I got. I don't know if you know it, but
in my tired man, I think every Jersey during that
played in his return, So I'm pretty familiar with this.
So it's it's never been sore.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
But why do you think that? What was your message
in Buffalom sure, I don't have a message. I'm praying
for my ad I love him to life.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
Rick, George, let's get to elephant at the rule. I
don't want to talk about this too long. I'm gonna
just talk briefly and let it go. We talking about
your door. We ain't talking about nobody else, but his
last name was was Sanders. We wouldn't have discovered this discussion.
The only reason we were happening this discussion is his
last name is Sandra.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Is that it? Well?
Speaker 3 (08:02):
I mean, when I mean, I can give you the
rest of it here is yeah, yeah, and then he
and then he kind of as we picked right up
from there.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
We talking about you doing. We ain't talking about nobody else,
but his last name wasn Sanders. We wouldn't have discovered
this discussion. The only reason we were having this discussion
is his last name is Sanders.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Okay, that's it.
Speaker 5 (08:23):
It's been so many things accomplished at this university expeditiously.
It's been unbelievable, and I think we should be appreciative,
we should be thankful. We have a room full of
wonderful people that covers us, and I don't I don't
know if you all were in this room two three
years ago. I mean very few, okay, but I mean
it's a new day. We're doing things a little different.
(08:46):
I think the training table, I think the food is better.
Nobody said nothing but that it's a whole lot of
things that are brighter and that there better because someone
stands on business and makes it that way, and he's
reason when it comes to it being that way, because
everything we do is to improve everything for us.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
I think it was hot in here. One time.
Speaker 5 (09:07):
I said, let's turn the urn air condition of a
night on on the our night game.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Right the next time we came in, what happened.
Speaker 5 (09:13):
I think about those details because it don't just benefit me,
and it benefits what all of us. So if all
of us are happy, all of us should be happy.
I'm not gonna be critical of you because I didn't
get what I want.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
I don't get down like that.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
And the root of all of it.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
It's personal.
Speaker 5 (09:31):
Sometimes we got to get out the way man and
just be thankful for our people.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Others.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Love that neighbor, that helf. That's what them Bubble told me.
We didn't we love that neighbor. Truly, we would have
a problem with nobody else.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
Because this should be a big arm for him, and
yet it's being met with this house. He don't care.
Let's get get this trade. He's the Sanders. He don't get.
Travis don't either. I don't even. I think it's a
beautiful day, blessed day.
Speaker 5 (09:57):
These guys are thinking about the draft, man, they thinking
about where the're gonna and the their career. That's what
they're on right now. But we're thankful that above nation
has been gracious. They've been wonderful. I feel like we
have the best fan base ever ever, especially over the
last two years. I can't comment before because I wasn't here,
so it's hard for me to attach myself to something
(10:19):
that wasn't because I was not here. But the last
two years it has been phenomenal. Man, He's gonna be
a better place. That's why I call it home now.
I get mail here. I don't know if y'all know
it or not.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Okay, well, Dave, there you go. I mean, we have
a little bit more. Him talking about honoring past Buff's legends.
I thought you'd find that interesting, but sort of your
early reaction, him saying more or less his last name
is the reason why people are reacting the way they are.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
Yeah, here's here's my reaction. I would agree with him.
He pointed out in sort of a way that since
he's been there, there have been a lot of good
things that have happened. I agree. I said it yesterday
(11:08):
and the day before. I think coach Prime, his arrival
and how he has turned this program around has made
the University of Colorida football program relevant again. It's not
the first time they were relevant, all right, but they
have become relevant again. With respect to his statement, the
(11:36):
only reason that this is an issue is the last
name is Sanders. Is that could be his opinion, which
would make his opinion to him one hundred percent. But
to me, that is absolutely one hundred percent false.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
I said the same thing yesterday.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
I said, Hey, if Dan Hawkins would have retired Cody
Hawkins Jersey, I'd have been all over Dan Hawkins. What
are we doing here, man? Dan Hawkins? You know, I
don't know if he has a school record for passing.
He's got a lot of yards. Cody was a four
year starter. My whole thing is, and I said, it's
not personal towards Shador. Listen, bro, you can't make everything
(12:23):
about when somebody has a difference of opinion with you,
it's pretty apparent you don't care. All right, that's fine,
but you can't always make it about Oh. The reason
that you disagree with me is because the last name
on the jersey can't always do that, man right, can't
always There are times that I think if you use that,
(12:43):
then it probably would be true.
Speaker 2 (12:45):
I get it. Not this time. This is only from my.
Speaker 6 (12:51):
Perspective about what I said the last two days. All right,
there are other players that have been great in this
program that should be honored. If we're talking about retiring
somebody's jersey. I'm good with Travis Hunter having his jersey retired.
He won the Heisman. Okay, so he happened one other
(13:13):
time in school history. But I think there have been
other players who had been overlooked we didn't retire their jerseys.
And I mentioned Darien Hagen, who's the best quarterback to
ever play at CEU. He and Shaduur. They're different style quarterbacks.
(13:33):
Darrin couldn't throw it like Shaduur, but Shoud couldn't run
it like Darien. Darrin was an option quarterback. I think
Cordell Stewart merits the same kind of attention. Two year
starter right top ten in the Heisman Trophy voting two
consecutive years. There's other great great play Cliff Branch his
numbers not retired War number twenty three. So I stand
(13:58):
by what I said. He stands on business. I stand
on business. He really doesn't care about what former bus think.
That's okay, because I really don't care what he thinks
about this.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
He's the head coach up there. He can do whatever
he wants to.
Speaker 6 (14:17):
I mean, what's his what's his comment about I pray
about the A D what?
Speaker 2 (14:23):
What? What?
Speaker 3 (14:24):
How?
Speaker 2 (14:24):
How How am I to read that? What does that mean?
Speaker 1 (14:27):
I mean it was a bit of a deflection.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Oh did you hear?
Speaker 3 (14:30):
I mean, cause that that was like, it wasn't Hey,
I brought this here and we're doing this thing because
I wanted it was we as the buffs are doing this,
and I honestly like, I don't care what you guys think.
I pray for my ad who's getting all the phone calls,
he's getting.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
All the former buses. O'll care of him, by the
way I took that.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Yeah, well listen, here's the deal. Number one.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
I didn't called Rick George, but I sit behind you know,
pretty powerful, Mike. I'd be happy to call Coach Prime
and talk to him if you'd ever take my call. Right,
I didn't call Rick George. I'd be happy to talk
to Coach Prime about it. Here's the thing, and I
said this, and I don't want to make too big
a deal anymore about it. He doesn't care. He doesn't
(15:16):
care what we think as former players, and that's his prerogative.
It's okay. But just to be clear with this, right,
let's not get this twisted. This is not me hating
on to CEU program. It's not me hating on Coach Prime.
It's sure and me hating on Shadure. I just disagree
with the decision, vehemently, like to the core of my existence.
(15:40):
And I would have been the same way if Dan Hawkins,
the former head coach, would have wanted to retire Cody Hawkins,
Jersey or Frankly, if I don't know, Mel Tucker or
who else has been up there, Carl Durrell or mc McIntyre,
(16:02):
if they didn't want to do it too, it'd be like,
hold on, hold on, wait a minute, man, what about
what about I mean, I followed see football since late.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Sixties and played there.
Speaker 6 (16:13):
What about some of these dudes that I know should
be talked about in terms of this and to say, well,
you know what, I've only been here for two years.
I can't I'm paraphrasing, I can't worry about that.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Why not?
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Why can't you? You're the head coach of the University
of Colorado. So I'd love to have a conversation with him.
I've never had a conversation with him. I've never seen him,
you know so. But I still root for the Buffs.
I'm a buff to my core. And again when that
team runs out behind the Buffalo, you know what, it's
(16:46):
it's still to this day an emotional experience for me,
that's all.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yeah, one Alma Monter, right, And I would feel the
exact same way if we were talking about the University
of Miami right now, right, cam Warden, depending on what
you know, mock draft you look at, they haven't projected
to go number one overall that the Tennessee Titans, right,
And that's a guy that was at Miami for one year.
I think with Prime, it's it's just constantly talking out
(17:12):
of both sides of your mouth. You've applied all this pressure,
and you've said it from day one when you walked
out there and your in your open and press conference
said this is your quarterback. You know, this is the
starting quarterback, pointing to his son. That was before he
had done anything right, So I questioned some of the
decisions behind the scenes. But for Shadora not even to
(17:33):
be drafted, right, you talk about he's worried about where
he's going to spend his career and all these different things, Well,
you've had a hand in that from the get going.
He's not going here, he's not going there. And now
we're a week away from the draft, and you're talking
about retiring jersey numbers, Like, could we not watch him
get drafted? Could we not announce that announcement maybe a
(17:53):
couple months down the road, Like Travis Hunter won the
Heisman was playing both ways. What that young man did absolutely,
I think wherever you did it, it made sense. But
I'm right here with Dave saying there's a lot of
other people that should be getting consideration as well, talking
about their jerseys being retired, and what does it say
to those guys that have been there that through it
(18:16):
all are still rooting on the Buffs. That's their Arma
modo date, but they're just getting passed over and it's
unfair when you just look at now Shadora is like,
we don't even know where you're going in the draft.
We don't know if you're a top five pick or
what you're going to be at this point, and we
certainly don't know what you're going to be at this level.
And to me, it's almost like Dion's trying to force
(18:37):
his path that he's already walked onto Shadora because look
what he says in there. All my jerseys have been retired,
So what is that what you're trying to, you know,
make happen for your son because we don't even know
what he's going to be in the National Football League yet.
And I'm not saying that he doesn't deserve his jerseys
to be retired, but you have to also look at
(18:59):
the big picture and there's all the people that should
be considered as well.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
Now, speaking of that, he was asked about honoring form
of scraps and here's what he said.
Speaker 5 (19:07):
I'm in the coaching in football right now, like like
like I don't know if you saw this, and I
want you to make note of this. I had a
wonderful idea one day. Why am I just talking about
these guys that are certainly gonna get drafted. I'm gonna
talk about all my guys because I love all of
them and if it wasn't if it were for them,
I wouldn't be where I am now. So I did
(19:27):
a personal video for every kid that's getting ready to
go in the draft. Of other seniors, I hundred every
last one of them.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
That's my responsibility. I feel for my era, for my team,
for my guys because what they did for me.
Speaker 5 (19:41):
When I'm back into something that I don't know nothing
about that I wasn't involved in, I'm gonna ruf for
feathers because I'm gonna forget somebody bless you that I
don't know nothing about, and it's gonna be a problem.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
And I don't want to be put in that position.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I want to be the good steward on what God
has placed me over and I feel like I am,
but all that yesterday's stuff, I don't know about that,
because I'm gonna somebody's gonna get sensitive. I have some
dear friends I know, Cordell and and uh Westbrook, Westbrook
is my guy. We had a great talk the other
night for else several guys, you know, especially that that
(20:18):
whole lineage of corners that were great here. So it's
it's it's good, it's good. I wish I could just
shake everyone. Can we start off with me just shaking
everyone's hand that played him before, just getting him a hug? Right,
they gotta come back for that, right, Let's start with that.
(20:39):
Let's start off right there. That's what I want to do.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
I can't acknowledge all of them because somebody's gonna get
sensitive and felt left out.
Speaker 6 (20:49):
Hey, how many how many times have you heard me
say over the last two years, stylistically, we would be
we would be different. That's okay. Now, I think I'd
do it differently. You know, in terms of honoring the
past of wherever I was coaching.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
Are you saying you haven't received your hug at handshake yet?
Speaker 6 (21:12):
I'm saying I do that differently, and I'm a high
school coach. I think again, difference of opinion, we're different stylistically.
I think when you go somewhere, you honor the past,
you welcome guys back, you make him feel when you
have Oh, I don't know. Maybe a former Buckets Award
winner and a two time All American and first run
(21:35):
draft choice, I don't know, and he comes back for
an event. I'm gonna make sure. I'm gonna have my
people make sure they.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
Let me know. Hey, by the way, that's Alfred Williams
standing over there.
Speaker 6 (21:48):
I promise you I'm gonna approach Alfred Williams, Shakey's hand
and say, hey, man, how you doing, big fellow. I mean,
but that's what I would do. He didn't have to
do that. But it's disingenuous to name a couple guys
that you think you're cool with and then basically dismiss
everybody else that is a former player that has issues
(22:10):
with this, and you're I mean, if I felt better, really,
if you just come out today and say, listen, I
know there's some people out there that disagree with this.
Let me just tell you what my thinking was and
why I did what I did. These two guys made
(22:32):
a difference. Yeah, one of them is my son. I mean,
Travis won the Heisman. It's the best player in America.
If I don't get Shudur to come with me, then
about sixty percent of the roster the last two years,
don't wind up coming to Boulder. He was transformational in
(22:55):
the change that we've seen in this program the last
two years. And obia here's the records he holds. So
I know a lot of people are gonna say this
is strictly because he's my son, But the reality of
it was, it wasn't his decision, it was mine, and
I thought it was the right thing to do. I'd
have felt a lot better if you had just said
(23:16):
that instead of saying, oh.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Okay, listen.
Speaker 6 (23:20):
The only reason we're having this discussion, yes, is because
his last name is Sanders. That's bs man, and that's
a cop out, and it's disingenuous. And again I need
to say this for some of y'all that have little
bitty ears, little bitty ass ears.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
I'm gonna see you guy.
Speaker 6 (23:36):
I love to see you football have since the sixties.
So I'm not a hater a coach prime. I still
root for the Buffs this year. I still want him
to do well, hope to get to the college. So
I mean, I'm all in, have been the last two years.
That doesn't mean I have to like every single thing
that goes on. And when he does something like this
(23:56):
that I feel really strongly about. Best believe, I'm gonna
say it. That's all perfectly said. We'll come back on
k WA tell you what this week that has been
that story.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Oftentimes we do this and of course we're going to
have great draft coveras a week away from the NFL drafts,
you know, usually the march up to the NFL Draft,
it's a lot of NFL Pro football stuff. The spring game, historically,
I mean, other than the sign that coach Prime has
gotten here is is usually kind of a non story, right,
I mean, it's a practice.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Well that's another thing.
Speaker 6 (24:34):
I mean, it's not even worthy even if you agree
with retiring both yourss I mean for Travis and in
this case, if you're going to retire shaders at a
spring game is not worthy of retiring your number. Why
don't you pick a game in the fall. It's where
there and there's gonna be plenty of big games coming up,
of course, where you've got a full house, they're rocking,
(24:58):
and hey at halftime, how about this? You know, and
they'll multi playing in the NFL. So maybe you can
only do one way during a bye week, that's when
you do it. You fly him back and have at it. Man,
that's that's what a Jersey retirement thing looks like.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
It's wild, wild.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Just just let's let's hurry up and get to it.
Let's let's let's get him in there. And for me,
it's just like, there's so many things that is wrong
with this right now, because I just want to see
how Chadora plays at the next level. Every single year,
the quarterback position is the most important position in all
(25:37):
of sports. We constantly see quarterbacks fizzle out at our
bus in the National Football League, and now the systems
that we're seeing implementing in today's NFL, it's not the
systems that we saw even half a decade ago. So
to look at a guy and just be like, man,
here you go and just give it to him, I
(25:58):
just you're only doing that because of the last name,
which if that kid's name was not last name was
not Sanders with the same stats, would Prime have retired
as Jersey number right now? But see here, here's here.
I would push back a little bit on this.
Speaker 6 (26:15):
I think even let's just say, and I helped you
do her, and I said this the last two days
gets drafted by the right team. I hope he has
a great NFL career. But to me, it doesn't matter great, no, good, good, average,
alow above average. It doesn't matter if you're if your
(26:36):
jersey's going to be retired, your college jersey's going to
be retired. It should be based on what you have
accomplished in college. I didn't even realize this till this
thing sort of popped up this week. Tim Tebow's jersey's
not retired at Florida. I mean, hello, oh wow. I
(27:01):
mean now I would say to the people of Florida,
what in the what are you waiting on? Why would
why is his jersey not retired based on what he
accomplished at the University of Florida.
Speaker 5 (27:15):
Man.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Agree, I've been on a private jet that had the
Florida Gators logo and colors on it with the fiftetail. No, no, no,
he wasn't the pilot. Well, he got the plane for
us after my rookie year for the Offensive Lines Vegas
trip and the shore. If a Florida Gator plane pulls
up that's painted in Florida Gator colors, wow, the tail
(27:38):
of it was number fifteen on it. But I was like,
there's a booster a Booster wanted to put you know,
Tim Tebow's jersey number one and lend it out to
him anytime.
Speaker 1 (27:48):
That's kind of a baller thing.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Yeah, oh absolutely, big baller, fine offensive line. Then when
that jet pulled up, Yeah, but for him not to
have this jersey, it just looks like, come on now, yeah,
that's wild.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Hey, Clint Hurdle, I want to ask you about this story, Dave.
As the Rockies today, after losing their sixth straight two
series in a row now with Padres and the Dodge
who's losing Late last night, they have relieved their hitting coach,
Hensley Millons of his duties and Clint Hurdle now the new.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
Hitting coach for your Colorado Rockies. I don't know, man.
Rockies fans were justifiably upset.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
I mean, if you look at the standings, they're the
worst team in baseball right now, three and fifteen, they're
eleven and a half back in their division. They have
a negative fifty one differential in runs already eighteen games
into the season, negative fifty one run.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
Differentially about three runs a game, worst than all of baseball.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
So, I mean, I don't know what I think about
the things that are wrong with the Rockies. Hitting is
an issue, including last night Ryan McMahon swinging at three
straight pitches.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
To end the game. Did you see I mean, I
don't know if you saw.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Yeah, it was of course, So I mean hidding, yeah,
that's that's one thing pitching is Marquez getting run in
the first inning.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I think this is honestly, this is a move that.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
They probably felt like, we have to do something. If
we don't do anything, you know, that's not going to work.
We're three and fifteen. We're not going to fire buddy
right now. So what do you want to do? Well,
we're not hitting, which they aren't. What if we what
(29:43):
if we fire Hensley? Who you want to bring in? Well,
I mean, Clint's not doing anything and Clint, Listen, Clint,
Clint was a skipper here when this team went to
the World Series. So and Clint turned out to be
a good major league hitter. But also, I think if
(30:06):
you're a reasonable person, you might sit back and say, Okay,
this move. Hopefully it works out. Everybody likes Clint and
Rockies fans it might buyas a little bit of goodwill
by making this move. I mean, it's got to be
a frazeable person could come to that conclusion.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
You got one hundred and forty four games left. Credit
to you guys for watching that thing, and credit to
you Ryan for being able to say what happened in
last night and the ninth indent because I turned it
off after first when it was seven to one, I
was like the heck I kept going. But you know,
when you look at the Rockies, it's been a constant disappointment.
And in sports we constantly see somewhat of a scapegoat.
And when you are looking at a team that you know,
(30:52):
it's all about the fans, right, and how many fans
can you get into stands? Got one hundred and forty
four left. You're three and fifteen baseball team. It doesn't
look like there's any light at that end of the tunnel.
What can you do? Oh, let's point the finger and
that's all this move was. Let's point the finger at.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Somebody last and runs allowed, last and runs scored.
Speaker 6 (31:11):
I've got to interject off topic from the six four
to six or eight? What would you say if shaduur
Now says he doesn't want his number retired? Would he
be disrespecting the program? Would he be arrogant. Get out
of your feelings. That's from Cheryl. Hey, Cheryl, first of all,
get out of this. That would be my message to
you talk to us day. Second of a well, no, Hey,
(31:33):
if you you want to fire, then you get return fired.
Oh absolutely, okay, So miss me on your righteous indignation
about shaduor nobody on this show has been anything other
than positive with the University of Colorado for the last
two years. And I've had plenty of opportunity not to
be okay in terms of recruiting in state recruiting.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
I haven't gone. I haven't gone there.
Speaker 6 (31:57):
So for me, if you tell me to get out
of my feelings because I have an opinion that Shador's
jersey shouldn't be retired. Man, seriously, miss me. And how
long you been a CU fan?
Speaker 2 (32:14):
Right? How many years have you followed the Buffs? How
many years as you listen to radio? Now, that's what
this is all about.
Speaker 6 (32:20):
No, and and so you know that's my response to
Miss Cheryl. Sorry, go ahead, Ryan, Sorry to interrupt you. No,
n that was Hey, Dave, We're here for you. Got
you got multiple decades behind them, Cheryl, I know exactly
(32:40):
at least I think I know exactly where you're coming from,
and like what you're intimating.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
I believe me.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
I'm not I'm not one of those. And you know
exactly what I'm saying. I'm atypical when it comes to those,
and you know exactly what I'm saying. I know you do.
That's not me. Might be others that's not me. Sorry,
Ryan perfectly.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Said, I'm glad I needed to be addressed.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
Oh nos, oh nos, exactly what I was saying. Just
drop that mic, thank you.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
Why why would he come out?
Speaker 6 (33:18):
And after all of this, we can't point the finger
at Schoudure is not Schadure's fault.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
One person.
Speaker 6 (33:27):
I said twice yesterday in the day before, I'm quite
certain Shad didn't go into his dad or Rick George
or whomever and say, hey, y'all need to retire my jersey.
I'm pretty damn sure that didn't happen. Nobody's nobody is
upset with Schadur, Miss Chryl.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
What we do.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
I'm a team. I'm gonna keep watching.
Speaker 3 (33:52):
I watched last night as I was flipping back with
the NBA playoffs.
Speaker 6 (33:55):
Gosh, you did you were? You were kind of pissed off?
Last night because Minnesota was none right.
Speaker 1 (34:02):
No man, time city, see you you and not in
Minnesota thing.
Speaker 3 (34:07):
I got a text yesterday from somebody who was like, hey,
have you bragged to Shelby yet about your uh Anthony
Edwards jersey collection?
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Yeah right, that's okay. Hey, just embrace who you are.
That's what you do.
Speaker 1 (34:20):
I'm a Nuggets fan, your.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Musician, you were a good one.
Speaker 6 (34:24):
Embrace that you're a t Wolves fan, not gold I
mean who else?
Speaker 2 (34:28):
Uh thunder?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
So if I'm those things, can you at least be
a Golden State fan?
Speaker 2 (34:33):
Is that state? Okay?
Speaker 6 (34:35):
Great?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
So we can acknowledge that's your team.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
No, I didn't say it was my team. My team
is the Nuggets.
Speaker 1 (34:41):
Acknowledging a good team?
Speaker 6 (34:43):
Was that you or somebody else wearing a flannel shirt?
Like three weeks ago this sat here and talked about
how scared sc a r T. They were about please
please don't bring the Timberwolves to face the Nuggets, and
the play was.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
That you O Shelby, Oh he was pale that day.
He doesn't wear flannels.
Speaker 3 (35:09):
I listen, I I yeah, the flannel stuff is that
does primy.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
But we know.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Shelby Harris has been known to wear flannel or two.
He deflected that whole thing with him because I know
you want to change topic.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
He would coach Prime on that I appreciate you. I
appreciate you.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Uh so. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
For the Rockies, certainly a level of frustration, and even
here on the text line just mentioning firing the hitting
coach is it's just not enough for a lot of
Rockies fans to to really buy into a change. But
you know what you'll say and I and I'll say this,
we'll see right to a certain extent, as in when
firings happened like it happened with the Nuggets last week.
(35:57):
Sometimes the shake up does great some things. Yeah, I mean,
what else you can do? They're three and fifteen.
Speaker 1 (36:02):
You didn't know where to go but up?
Speaker 2 (36:04):
So I think, I don't know, this is the floor.
Speaker 3 (36:09):
You would think, so, I mean, there's not It doesn't
feel like there could be any lower. But it is
what it is. Jim and I saw phone you're on
the phone or the break. I'm sorry I didn't. I
didn't talked to Miss Chryl.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
Let me just say that she's a delightful person and
uh she's a sports fan okay.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Enjoy No, but she's got my cell phone.
Speaker 6 (36:36):
And we might we might become very very close friends.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Okay, yeah, there you go.
Speaker 6 (36:41):
You know what, And that that's the beauty of being
able to communicate with people that initially you think like,
I wait a minute, you know, that's part of I'm
not going to go political here, but that's part of
what's wrong in our political stratosphere in this country currently. Nobody,
nobody can have a difference of opinion and then down
to communicate and say, huh, you know what.
Speaker 7 (37:02):
That makes sense to me. Yeah, I do that on
a daily basis with you. Like minded people can disagree,
Thank you. But I didn't know that you were that easy, Dave.
All you got to do is chirp you to get
your cell phone number. There you go, Yeah, I'm not
like you.
Speaker 2 (37:15):
See I would have gone on time, and I answer, yeah,
I would have gone on the text nine years ago
we have back.
Speaker 6 (37:20):
In like twenty eleven to get your number, and like
they I'm not hard to find.
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Not hard to find?
Speaker 3 (37:27):
Well, I mean, and you likely would just call them
timberwolves fans or something like that, and then that would
end the conversation, not unless.
Speaker 6 (37:33):
They actually on public airwaves, started almost crying about how
difficult the matchup might be with the timberwol By the way.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
Loud Dort might win like Defensive Player of the Year
or like six minutes poster.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
And signature might be worth a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
I might be insufferable because that's the guy that you
picked out as like I'm a huge fan of and
if he wins.
Speaker 2 (37:54):
Out of him and remember how I said it.
Speaker 3 (37:57):
But you know what's really fascinating, Great, now we're talking
about this before the show. So for argument, see the
Mavericks who last night torched the Kings.
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Somebody had that right.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Yeah, but you had the under which didn't help you.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Just self suck.
Speaker 1 (38:12):
Under one and one didn't really help you.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
But but then they got Memphis, who's kind of banged up. Right,
we don't really know the status of their star point guard.
So if the Mavericks somehow beat Memphis and they get
the eight seed, I am praying, like unbelievable, they do
not go and somehow get on a run and take
down Oklahoma City, Dallas, you will live that down.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
If if the Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 3 (38:41):
Somehow take down Oklahoma City without Kyrie Irving, and Luka Dancic.
Can you imagine what you're gonna do to me on
the air?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I think Okaye is a good basketball team, but there's
it's it's scary because of how young that basketball team is,
you know. I think there is something when you look
at like age and wisdom and just that veteran leadership
when you're trying to win a championship, when you're trying
to go on a run. So unfortunately, what Ryan's talking
(39:10):
about I could see happening with just such a young
team and not this. I think that team gets better
and I see, you know, NBA finals in their future
over the next couple of years. But right now it
is scary trying to say, yeah, okay, see they're the favorite.
Speaker 1 (39:28):
All right, we'll go back. We got to get to
so the sound for the Broncos today as the draft
is one week away. We'll get to that next
