Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're gonna have out to the Kiowi Commas Spirit Health

(00:01):
Hotline and bring on a very good friend of the program,
Adam Morris with d VR. Of course, the Nuggets tonight's
taken on the LA Clippers in Game five.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Adam, my friend, it's good to catch up with you.

Speaker 3 (00:12):
How are you hey, I'm doing great, Fellows, excited for tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Look at my wounds from.

Speaker 3 (00:17):
The abs lost last night. That one, that one bothered me.

Speaker 4 (00:22):
Yeah, Adam, I think everybody excited. And I agree with
you about the Apps. By the way, I think people
were excited about the Nuggets after that dramatic win in
Game four in Los Angeles. So in your mind, what
two or three things have to happen tonight in order
for the Nuggets to have the best chance to win. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:43):
I think the first thing that the Nuggets found success
with in Game four, sort of an adjustment of sorts,
was they upped their own physicality, in particular with James
Harden and Kawhi Leonard. And I thought that tone was
set very early on picking them up full court, but
not just shadowing them to try to keep them in front,
getting physical to bother them, attacking their dribble and to
disrupt them on that end. The officials allowed for a

(01:06):
very physical game, I think because the Nuggets set that
tone early and they're gonna have to do that tonight.
They're also gonna have to get more from their bench.
I mean, Denver obviously played Jokic the entirety of the
second half. They're gonna have to rely on some other guys.
As this series most to every other night for the
final three games, They're gonna have to buy some rest
for those guys late. And to do that, I think

(01:29):
is going on with the Nuggets right now is they
only trust five guys, so every sub you bring in
disrupts that rhythm and that chemistry that they have. And
then the last part is Jamal Murray. I think he's
been okay in the series. He's had some moments, but
he hasn't had a breakout game. And we're at the
point now all the adjustments are on the table, all
the cards are on the table, adjustments have been made.

(01:49):
Now your stars need to step up, and for me,
Game five is all about Jamal stepping up and having
a big night.

Speaker 5 (01:57):
Well, David, it's funny that you mentioned Jamal because I
think they another player that somehow gets lost in the
shuffle with all their conversation and dialogue about Jamal Murray,
and he's connection to Nicole Jokis, and that's Aaron Gordon.

Speaker 6 (02:10):
When you look at.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
Aaron Gordon, well, how do you think the team feels
about him?

Speaker 6 (02:15):
But more employeely?

Speaker 5 (02:15):
How do you think Nikola Jokich views a guy like
Aaron Gordon in the midst of conversation and dialogue about
Jamal Murray.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Yeah, that's a great question, because Nikola Jokic had a
really interesting couple of quotes about him recently won. He
called him the soul of the team, and I think
that's right. He kind of knows the team's values and
identity as well as anybody not named Jokic, and so
he's the guy that you always know you're going to
get the best from him on both ends of the court.
And the other thing he said about him, and I

(02:45):
think it's connected, he said he's the guy who sacrifices
the most, called him a top side teammate he's ever had.
And I think he views Aaron Gordon as a guy
who gets and understands that this team, this specific version
of the Denver Nuggets really requires mystry, sacrifice and connection.
And Aaron Gordon, who was a star in Orlando before
coming here, really bought into what is it the team needs.

(03:08):
It's often sacrificed physically, emotionally from an ego perspective, and
he does it every night. So to me, Aaron Gordon
is a guy who's incredibly reliable to do his job.
He's great defensively, he makes winning plays like he did
in that last game at the last seconds. It's found
a way to get them over the hump. So I
think that that Nikola Jokic loves him. I know he does.

(03:29):
He's talked about him that way, and I think it's
because he embodies all of the values that Nikally Jokic
sees the game of basketball being about.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Chatting with Adamara is from D and v R. I
want to go back to.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
What you're talking about with the starters playing the significant
minutes that they were. I mean, it's startling to look
at what the starters did versus what the Nuggets bench
ended up doing. And again, you know, they won this game.
I think the results speak for themselves. But at the
same time, there's a sustainability here.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Maybe you don't.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Worry about that too much much because you're just trying
to win this series. But this just doesn't seem like
something that even if you get out of this series,
you can keep going at this pace.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
There's no question you're not going to win a championship
playing the Guy's forty four minutes to night. That era
of the NBA is over. It's too spread out. I
think it's too exhausting and you need depth. But if
you look at this, you know the Lakers they had
a similar thing in they're lost to the Timberwolves. They
got five points out of their bench. The Knicks got six.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Points out of their bench.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
So you're seeing this across the NBA, where I think
it's this new salary cap rules. There's a lot of
teams that just don't have a lot of depth. Denver
is one of them, So you're right, they have to
find somebody. I expect they'll get Russell Westbrook back. He's
a little bit of a mixed bag. He brings a
lot of energy and skill to the team, but he
can be a little chaotic, so they need the best
version of him, and then they need one more guy,

(04:50):
whether that's Jalen Pickett, who I think is a steady
guy but not necessarily talented, or Peyton Watti Watson, who's
a very talented guy, but not that steady. One of
those two guys is going to have to play. When
I say real minutes, I mean maybe two, four or
five minutes stint. But those guys are going to have
to sit in and not lose anything when they check in.
And that's just a big ask because neither of those

(05:11):
guys has proven to do that consistently at any point
this year. In game five of the series, it's only
gotten more complex from Game one. There's layers of strategy
on top of every single game, and now you're asking
guys to come in and they've been inconsistent. They need
to perform, and they need to perform in a complex situation.
That's just a tough spot.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
Adam, last question for me, When you look at the
Nugget says they are presently constituted, do you think how
far they go in the playoffs will have a dramatic
part of whether or not the core group of guys,

(05:52):
the guys we've been talking about, whether that core comes
back intact. Do you think the showing in the playoffs
will have a we'll have sort of play a large
decision decision making role in terms of whether guys come
back next year or not, or do they blow it up.
No matter what happens.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
I certainly think it'll factor in quite a bit. I
think there's a lot hanging in the balance right now.
I mean, first of all, David Adalman, you make it
out of the first round and the team is behind you.
That goes a long way to hey, maybe this is
our guy. But I think your broader question is that
we've had this core group for several years with Aaron Gordon,
Michael Porter, Jamal Murray, Niko Jokic. And one of the
questions the Nuggets have to answer is if they fall short,

(06:38):
was it because of depth? You know, there was a
weird friction in the building this year with it with
Malone and Calvin Booth and the direction is it because
of that? Or has this core expired and we need
to use our resources differently? And I think even that
is up in the balance. I mean, you could make
a case that the Nuggets, the starting five that played
last night, they defeated a very talented and deep Clipper

(07:00):
team that was the hottest offensive and defensive team in
the NBA. So they show you that that core is
still really, really good, but there are definitely how the
season finishes, you're gonna have to factor in. It's a
good core, but how much of that is Jokic, how
much of that is Yokichen, Murray, yokicen Ag and how
much of that is the five guys? And do we
need to redistribute our assets to me? I don't know

(07:22):
the answer to that, but I do think that whatever
happens tonight and in the coming week or weeks is
certainly going to influence that heavily.

Speaker 5 (07:31):
Now, this series has been one of the more dramatic
series in the NBA Finals thus far, with the series
hired two to two. Now, this is a huge game
for the Nuggets at home and they definitely.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
Need to steal this one out.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Outside of Nikola Jokish, what other player do you feel
that they should have a great game where they need
to have a great game in order for the Nuggets
to pull this one out?

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Yeah, I think I think it's Jamal Murray, And it
kind of comes back to the very beginning I talked
about this being his game. You gotta have great contributions
I thought Michael Porter was more focused, made fewer mistakes
in the last one. Aaron Gordon's obviously been great, and
Christian Brown.

Speaker 2 (08:10):
Had his great game.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
But the further you go into a series, the more
I think your role players understand what their assignment is.
That all the adjustments happened, and now the guys the
role players execute and make or miss the shots when
they're open. But your stars now have to step up.
The table is set for them. They've solved all the
problems that are thrown at you at a series by
game five, and now it's your stars who have to
read that and step up. Jokic did it last game

(08:34):
with a monster performance. Jamal Murray tonight, it's all about him.
He has not been one of the four best players
in this series in my opinion, so far, and you
can't get out of a series if you're giving the
other team three of the top four guys. So tonight,
I think the table is set for him. There's no
more adjustments. He has to go out there and perform
and do what he's done in the past. When the

(08:54):
Nuggets have beiten have needed a win in big games,
Jamal Murray's had he stepped up and he's played great
when they've lost series, he hasn't. So tonight to me
is all about Jamal that perfectly said. This is a
little bit off book.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
But one hundred men versus a gorilla, which side are
you on?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
I'm so glad you asked us D. I think people
are crazy. I think you only need about fifteen guys. Gorillas.
They're gonna wear out so quickly. They're not that smart,
they could be distracted, and they've got vulnerability.

Speaker 4 (09:26):
So you give me the.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
Hey, I think it's gonna cause some harms, the three
or four of them, but you know he's gonna wear
it down quickly and you're gonna get have your way
with him.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Adam, you're the best man. Really appreciate it. Enjoy the
game tonight. We will be checking checking with you soon.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Man.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Thank you, Thanks, brothers, take care, thank you.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
I appreciate Adam needs to go to a zoet. Actually, look, I'm.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
Just saying.

Speaker 7 (09:59):
Hundred.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
We're talking about just hands and heat fists, right.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
That's right. He's saying, Yeah, there's gonna.

Speaker 4 (10:04):
Be a fo the guys, there'd be a hundred dead humans.
Are you out of your mind?

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Respectfully, disagreefuse, have you ever seen a silver back?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Gay? I said, respectfully, And.

Speaker 6 (10:19):
That changes what my saying? Respect Yeah?

Speaker 4 (10:20):
What what what does that? What does that change?

Speaker 1 (10:24):
You know, we'll talk about we come back five six,
six nine zeros a k comments grew to health text line.
As you imagine a lot of people jumping in to
this hundred men versus a gorilla conversation, immediately we get
would it be one hundred flannel wearing guys or non
flannel wearing guys.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
It's a good question.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
I don't think it's a I don't think it necessarily matters.
But if they want to be more comfortable and look good,
then yeah, I guess they could wear flannel.

Speaker 4 (10:48):
Next one, you ain't getting any comment for me. I
can feel you. Look, that's just called ignoring.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
The next one regarding gorilla, I with Dave and Nick,
no chance use this analogy. If one hundred kidner gardeners
will attack you, would they overpower you?

Speaker 4 (11:05):
Not me?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Not Dave, not Dick, Not sure about Ryan.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
I think that's I think that's maybe accurate. I think
it's well, I don't know if it's accurate or not,
but I think it's maybe fair. I think it's a
fair I don't think it's as we'd like to say.
That's a good question.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
It's a good question. Well, listen, Fellas.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
I think you brought up some great points in the
break and and I know you feel very passionately about
this day that the Gorilla would win in that matchup.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
But I'm just saying, how did we get on this?

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Well, it's because social media. Again, for the show, Dave,
you know this. For the show, I spend hours and
hours on social media so that I can bring us
the hip content.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
That's very fake.

Speaker 6 (11:51):
The fact that Ryan said the word.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Hey, listen, hey, but this is the thing.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
This has been debated now for several days in a row,
one hundred versus so I.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
Just I want to ask that time we'll spend it is.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
I have not deld into it though I have enjoyed
some of the AI simulations people have put together, right,
and I think the Gorilla wanted every single one of.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Them for what it's worth. But I think if you
have the strategy right, I mean, and you.

Speaker 4 (12:16):
Know what, let let me just jump in here, what
exactly describe a little bit of the strategy for the
hundred people? Are the people all male? Or are there females.
That's the discussion asking. I'm asking in your scenario, in
this scenario, forcing you to answer.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
It's been one hundred men, and that's not in your scenario.

Speaker 4 (12:39):
God, are you worried about if you say one hundred men?
Are you worried about it being sexist? Anything that you
don't worry about? So let's just say okay, I'll say it.
You know what, here's a hundred No, there's nothing you
don't worry about. So we have a hundre let's say
one hundred men. What what sort of give me a
quick glimpse of the Ryan Edwards strategy for these one

(13:01):
hundred men before they climb over the fence to fight.
I don't know, a twelve hundred pound silver backed gorilla.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
Go I think you'd want to first distract the gorilla.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
I think I think you'd what.

Speaker 4 (13:14):
Okay, how does that?

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Because you want to you want to go with four
sides of this thing, right? I mean you you wouldn't
just like all one hundred rushed straight ahead.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
Divvy up twenty five yes on.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
All four fur side?

Speaker 4 (13:24):
Okay? Sorry? Are they're gonna like the gorilla? Rows of
like four six rows of four and then somebody in
the back, not.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
A war general or anything. Okay, you know you're asking
me on the spot.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
I'm asking you to describe your strategy.

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, my strategy would be like the gorilla, an attack
from both sides, that all four four sides.

Speaker 5 (13:42):
It didn't after all four sides that those guys are dead?
Then what what's the next move?

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Did we admit the gorilla was gonna win all along?

Speaker 6 (13:51):
Do you actually have.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
To sacrifice people to figure that out? I mean, I
think I know the answer that question, even before even
trying to tempt you.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Guys have such little faith in humanity? Is that what
this is?

Speaker 6 (14:00):
No?

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Am I the only one that believe that that that
we as humans can be capable of.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Let me say this because this is how you sometimes
say to me with all due respect, and I mean
Ryan's with all due respect you have. Have you ever
been in a fight in your life?

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Yes?

Speaker 5 (14:17):
What?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Well?

Speaker 4 (14:18):
How did that go?

Speaker 2 (14:18):
It didn't go on?

Speaker 6 (14:19):
Like?

Speaker 4 (14:19):
What grade was that in him?

Speaker 2 (14:20):
But I was also a taekwondo and so I was
an organized fights.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
Well I'm okay, okay, but I'm talking about a fight
where like, yeah, like a real fight. Ray, were you
in middle school.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
I can't fifth sixth grade, sixth grade.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
Okay, all right, I just think I mean, I just
don't think it would be I know we're having fun,
but I just don't think it would be a good
idea to fight a wild animal, a twelve hundred pound
wild I don't think it's a good idea either, that
has like like several times more strength than a human.
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (14:50):
Well, Ryan's saying that Dave and I don't have faith
in humans, That's.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
What I'm saying.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
I mean, we can have a lot of faith in
the in the gorilla.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
Yes, Now we can actually physically test this theory out
and go down to the Denver Zoom and have you
walk into that.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
That's that's it's humane, that's illegal, that those those are.
This is a theoretical conversation. I don't want to test
you with you.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Yes, people attacked the girl.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
I'm sure I'm already getting text out here saying like,
how come you are a women?

Speaker 2 (15:20):
What's wrong with you?

Speaker 6 (15:20):
Ryan?

Speaker 2 (15:21):
Absolutely against women fighting?

Speaker 1 (15:23):
And then not that just a theory, this one throw
the flannel over the gorilla's head, Yeah, I mean again, track.

Speaker 5 (15:30):
Yeah, Then after he gets the flattel off.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Then what what do you do that waiting for the
flannel off? You would you attack while coordinate?

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Okay, then you give him a pun of spice you
and think that that's gonna end it.

Speaker 2 (15:43):
No, I'm not gonna give him caffeine. Are you crazy?
Caffeine and sugar.

Speaker 5 (15:48):
I'm just saying it may help him, may help calm
him down.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
Yeah, that's good. That's exactly what. Give a real label
about caffeine calms you down? Yeah, that's exactly right. All right,
we come back.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
I do want to get into a conversation about Jada
Baron because the Broncos, specifically George Peyton, called him the
joker of the defense. We'll talk about that a little bit.
Why you hang in your head?

Speaker 6 (16:08):
I'm tired of this joker talk? Man.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Okay, well then we won't have to. We don't have
to get it into that.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
I just want to ask his defensive I mean, we
could talk about it, but can we not just use
the word joker?

Speaker 6 (16:18):
Can we use something else?

Speaker 1 (16:19):
We'll find another term for you, just for you, and
everybody else know what it is, but just for you,
we'll do something different.

Speaker 2 (16:24):
We'll get to that coming up next.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
This hour's chance to win a thousand dollars coming up
in the next five minutes thanks to Maverick.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
We'll be right back on Kawa. The first round pick
for the Broncos was Jade Baron, and again I'm not
I won't say the word.

Speaker 1 (16:39):
I won't say the word, but I did ask George
Peyton about the versatility that he provides.

Speaker 2 (16:45):
And here's what he said. He's the best player on
the board, really good player.

Speaker 7 (16:49):
And we could you know, obviously we you know, people
are saying you should have taken this or that you
can always use corners and we need depth to corner
and he we feel like he's an elite player.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
And I mean we talked a lot about the okre
position right on the offense pause this joker on d.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
On defense exactly.

Speaker 7 (17:04):
You could play him anywhere inside, outside, he could play safety,
and he could he can thrive in all those positions.

Speaker 6 (17:10):
Dime.

Speaker 7 (17:10):
You know you watch him at Texas, Man, I studied
this guy during the season.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Then you know, then I get sewn on board.

Speaker 7 (17:15):
And when you when you watch a player during the season,
you watch three three games, you move on to the
next player.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
You write them up.

Speaker 7 (17:21):
But when you can spend a day just watching one
player and it's just like, oh my gosh, this guy's
really really good. You know when you watch all his
man coverage, you watch his own, you watch the quarters,
and you dig in, you do a deep dive, and
you're like, this is our guy.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
All right.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
So you can find the full interview. Okay, we call
her out dot com.

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Before I get to negative Nick here, Yeah, you heard me, Dave.
What do you think about that?

Speaker 6 (17:41):
Do you think with.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Vance Joseph the way that he's going to be able
to deploy John A. Barn there's interest there to be
able to move him around or do you think he's
primarily at one spot?

Speaker 5 (17:52):
No?

Speaker 4 (17:52):
I think ideally you you would like more than excuse me,
more than one player that that was versatile enough that
when you line him up, the offense is not exactly
sure as to what he is now, whether that's in inside,
whether he's playing nickel, whether he's playing dime. I mean, normally,

(18:17):
corners are not guys that are going to be sort
of that guy. Normally that's a safety or its or
it's a smaller linebacker who occasionally you can, you know,
you can hide a little bit and you're not sure
are they playing him here as a hash safety? What

(18:37):
is this guy?

Speaker 6 (18:38):
So?

Speaker 4 (18:39):
I think the fact that he's a good player, that
he played a number of positions at Oklahoma, at Texas,
he can play inside. But what really was intriguing to me,
he's got he's got really good measurables in terms of
how fast he is, his size and everything else. But
he's very very smart high high football IQ And when
you have guys like that, you can do a lot

(19:01):
of different things with them, and you can get a
little more creative in terms of how you scheme people
when you have a really smart group of players to
work with.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
So a matchup guy that you can move around, boy,
that sounds like something.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
I don't know, Nick, what do you think about that?

Speaker 1 (19:16):
As far as his versatility and the way that Vance
Joseph use it.

Speaker 6 (19:21):
Him, I love his versatility.

Speaker 5 (19:23):
But I'm opting not to use the word that's been
shuffled around here for the past a couple of months,
whether there's a guy on offense gout on defense, because
basically you're looking for impact players, guys with versatility, a
guy who can play a multitude of different positions, and
guess what, you don't have to pay one chet. So

(19:44):
when you get a guy like Baron who's able to
do that, like Dave said that, it gives you some
things to work with if you are Vance Joseph. When
I look at the Broncos defense, so let's just say
they run the three to four. Now maybe at certain
times depending on who the opponent is.

Speaker 6 (20:02):
Now you can run maybe a three.

Speaker 5 (20:04):
Three five and that means three interior linemen, three linebackers,
and five dbs. And someone said, well, why would you
do that in the NFL unless you're playing a team
that loves to run the ball. I'm thinking against those
passing team you get more speed and athleticism on the field.

Speaker 6 (20:19):
And then you look at Baron's tape.

Speaker 5 (20:21):
He did a great job of being in places where
he can create turnovers, force turnovers. Those are some things
that you don't really count on if you are a
defensive player. But more importantly, if you're Sean Payton, you
love that because it gives you more opportunity to use
an Ebon Ingram, to use RJ.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Harvey.

Speaker 6 (20:41):
So to me, this is your in essence. What's army knized?

Speaker 5 (20:45):
And most people are thinking, Okay, well, here's what we're
gonna do. Bringing in Barn, that means that Jaqual McMillan
is now going to be moved to the bench. Now
Roley Masson's not gonna be kicked inside, He's gonna be
placed outside.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
The idea is that you don't know what Dvance is
gonna do.

Speaker 5 (21:00):
He can do a multitude of different things, and now
you have playmakers all in the secondary.

Speaker 6 (21:04):
We've got two safeties who can blitz. You know how
difficult that is.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
And when you think about like Kwan was here playing Nickel,
but Kwan was beat up. But Kwan understood coverage, he
understood complimentary routes, but the biggest thing he understood was
run fits and how to blitz. So you add so
many guys to that mix and there's a multitude of
different things that you can do. Like Vans, I'm so
excited because Bans can actually be a mad scientist and

(21:32):
he could be the Broncos version of Dick Lebou.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
I love it. That's awesome.

Speaker 1 (21:39):
Yeah, versatility, that's great, And especially as you're talking about
with Vance Joseph and the way he can scheme things up.
It's not just about Johnny Barn, It's about what it
means for the.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Rest of the guys too. I didn't really consider that.
That's good stuff.

Speaker 6 (21:49):
That's what I'm here for.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
Yeah, I'm here to extrapolate on certain things. And notice
I did all of that without mentioning the word of
choice in this market we welcome.

Speaker 1 (22:01):
I mean, but we were talking about them more on
the offensive side of the ball then the defensive side
of the ball, and they's a very different conversation.

Speaker 5 (22:07):
We don't even need it on the offensive side of
the ball. Just say that a guy is versus this
guy is an impact player. When you need him to
make a play, he makes a play. We don't have
to throw all those other things in there.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
The one thing I was reading up on today when
some of the draft analysts, Dave, we're talking about Jade
barn They were pointing to some of the numbers in
zone for the Broncos last year and how there were
times that they kind of struggled in that and that
John Baron is going to be able to help that, Dave.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
So I think that's something that I think of nothing else.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
You sort of upgraded that that option as well, right.

Speaker 4 (22:42):
Yes, I think that. I mean, anytime you can add
a really good player, I mean and this kid has
been an elite player at Texas, and you add it
to a position that has reasonable strength I think the
secondary with the moves, I mean even before they made
some of the moves, I think had their moments last year.

(23:04):
So yes, it does give you the ability to mix
and match. You now have. I mean, one would think
you have three corners that you really really like. And
let's not forget Chris Abrams Drain who was a fifth
round pick last year as a rookie, had some moments
right played against the Chargers. And so you've got guys

(23:28):
because again in the NFL, you're gonna have guys getting
nicked up. You're gonna have guys that pull hamstrings. You're
gonna have guys that aren't able to play. You separate
a shoulder trying to make a tackle, you're gonna miss
a couple of weeks. Well, then the depth of that
room I think has been enhanced with another really good player.

Speaker 5 (23:45):
The Broncos look at what happened last year at Roley
Moss as a reason that they wanted to make this
move possible, even though I know is not a very
popular move here in Broncos country, because everyone was hoping
that the Broncos took a running back in Hampton was
that guy that target as far as.

Speaker 6 (24:03):
A big back is concerned.

Speaker 5 (24:04):
So for the Broncos to go defense, it's like, well,
you're not you're not helping bo Nicks.

Speaker 6 (24:09):
I'm like, if you're listening to.

Speaker 5 (24:10):
The damn press conference a week before the draft, Sean
Payton and George Payton kind of alluded to it that
the best way to help your quarterback is on the
defensive side of the ball.

Speaker 6 (24:22):
That's how you do it.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
So all those individuals who were negative about this pick
were probably the same individuals who were negative several years
ago when George Payton designed her to select PS two.

Speaker 6 (24:34):
But I say that worked out pretty well for the Bronco.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
No men I did, And that's Sean Payton, as you've mentioned,
acknowledged that a way to help the offense, the way
to help a young quarterback is to also have a
defense that his elites and doesn't make it so the
offense has a score thirty plus points per game. We
saw what happen with the Cincinnati Bengals, for example. You know,
the defense kind of broke down and hey, Cincinnati's offense,

(24:57):
you got to you gotta carry this thing then led
to a lot of loss in the end. That's really
ultimately matters when it comes to the NFL day. We
had a bit of a scare this weekend though with
Drake Greenlaw. I don't know if you saw I did
that report that he had a serious They were framing
it as a serious quad injury. Our guy Benjamin Albright
did some research found out that it was just a
strain is not expected to impact him even for training camp,

(25:20):
But immediately.

Speaker 2 (25:20):
Brought up a lot of Okay, what's.

Speaker 1 (25:23):
Our depth look like if Drake Greenlaw suffers some kind
of setback because we don't really know what Alex Singleton's
status is going to be like into training camp, they're
gonna move Drew Sanders inside. They brought back justin sirnad
and that that's the depth. So I don't know where
you sit with adding more to that room.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Yeah, I don't really have an opinion on it. I
hadn't given it one minute's thought. Green Law I think
will be fine with with a with a pull quad.
I mean, that's those type things are going to happen, right,
you know, you don't want to torn quad because then
it gets into a completely different realm. But I mean, listen,

(26:03):
it's it's the last part of April. I'm excited for
when they start with OTAs and then training camp. We
got a ways to go, but you know, I think
they've added some nice pieces. I really do. I mean
in the secondary, on the second level, all three levels
of defense. I think it will be interesting to see

(26:24):
what they do with Zach Allen and what they do
with John Franklin Meyer. Will there be contract extensions there?
I got to think with Alan there will be. I
would hope there would be, just personally, uh, with with
John franklin Meyer, because I thought I thought he when
he played, I thought he played pretty dog one. Well,
they've they've re signed DJ Jones. You've got you know,

(26:47):
sooner or later, you got to take care of the
you got to take care of the outside guys and
their contract issues. But excited to see what they do.

Speaker 1 (26:56):
So not worried, not worried about the depth, I guess
on April twenty nine.

Speaker 4 (27:01):
No, I'm much more concerned with the Nuggets do tonight
and what the Ads do tomorrow night and so on
April what is it twenty ninth, Yeah, on April twenty ninth.
As I said here, I can one hundred percent assure
you that I am not concerned at all about the
Nuggets linebacker depth.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
Now the Nuggets linebacker depth.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
Well, the Broncos linebacker depth. Get back to me like
in July when training camp opens, and then we'll see.
But I think now I've got no reason. I mean,
the green law thing, I think is just going to
be a poll. I think we know now that Alex Singleton,
I mean I would be surprised if he's well, I

(27:45):
wouldn't be surprised. I think it's going to be interesting
to see if he's completely ready to go, if they
have to modify really what he can do in training camp.
I mean, he had that injury the first game of
the season right in Seattle, so about a year out,
So we'll see about that. But I know they like Strenad.
We saw some of him last year forced into playing,

(28:08):
and I thought he had some moments playing inside. And
they have been really excited about Dreuce Anders for since
he was drafted out of Arkansas, right, so he just
has to He's had to find a way to have
a little success and stay healthy, stay out of the
training room because I think when you look at him,
the way he moves and his size, I mean, he's

(28:28):
an intriguing young prospect.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
How are you feeling about all of it on April
twenty nine before we move on to the Nuggets and Abs.

Speaker 5 (28:35):
I'm not in the penic, but it is something that
I would keep a watchful eye on because this position,
just like running back, was one that I know most
people in Broncos country were looking forward to seeing the
Broncos really kind of bring in a guy that can
really solidify that position. Obviously Greenlaw can do that, but

(28:57):
as oh with any player, you worry about injury history.
Even though this is frayed quad is supposed to keep
him out for eight weeks. So it makes you think
about the depth of the team.

Speaker 6 (29:06):
Because this is a long season.

Speaker 5 (29:08):
It's gonna be a physical season, especially with the backs
that were drafted in this position, I mean in this division,
and you're gonna need to.

Speaker 6 (29:16):
Make sure that you have God.

Speaker 5 (29:17):
So, like Dave said, Jessic, Schernard has come in last
year with Cody Barton and shown that he can be
a guy that you can plug and play and fill
the position. But he's not a long term stay guy
as far as being a reliable starter, and then Drew Sanders,
we haven't really seen him consistently at the linebacker position
to know how productive.

Speaker 6 (29:38):
He can be. Now that I believe they signed.

Speaker 5 (29:41):
A rookie linebacker from Utah, I think it's Kareem Reed.
And you know, most people say the knock on him,
he's not a real big guy, but I would say,
if you watch him on tape, he's a guy that
can get downhill. He knows how to use his hands well.
So I'm interested to see how he fits.

Speaker 6 (29:59):
Into the mix.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
But it should give the team an opportunity to go
look out and say, well, what are the teams that
are heavy at the inside linebacker position that maybe we
can go and try to give up a late round
draft choice, future draft choice to kind of pick one
of those guys up.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
All right, good stuff, five six six nine zeros a
KA with Kamaspert health text line. All right, Dave, let's
let's for a moment talk about the Abs last night.
That was kind of a rough outing and it felt
like all the momentum was on their side coming off
the game before.

Speaker 4 (30:26):
I just got seated like and flipped it on and said, Okay,
here we go, what nine seconds into the game? Yep,
so and then and then the goal Ryan and Nick
I think the goal right before the end of the
first period. Yeah, I mean, the first two goals were
like okay, I mean, to me, flukey goals. And then

(30:48):
they go down three nothing, but they battle back and
you're thinking, Okay, they're going to get back in this.
But yeah, I mean, I thought Dallas tout played them
last night, and that's you know, not that they can't
win this series. They've got to find a way now
to win two in a row against another. We knew
going into this that this was gonna be even even
with the Dallas injuries. I think maybe maybe some people

(31:12):
overestimated the impact the injuries would have for Dallas, but
I think most of us knew it's still going to
be a really tough series, and that's exactly what it's
turned out to be.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
It was very surprising, like like day like, as soon
as I sat down, I was like, well, what has happened?

Speaker 6 (31:31):
Well, I mean it was like nine.

Speaker 5 (31:32):
Seconds, but those two first who goes for Dallas were
very surprising and basically called everyone kind of off guard.
But you look at the remaining of that first period,
you saw the Avs actually fighting back. They actually showed
a little fight. And the crazy thing about is, like
the last game the Avs kind of dominated. It just
seemed like, well, this is a tell of two different games, like.

Speaker 6 (31:55):
Where did that av team go before?

Speaker 5 (31:58):
But that tells you, I mean, this is the playoffs
and you have to play your best hockey at this time.
But even with the Abs fighting back in that second period,
that third period was a monster for Dallas. So now
you're asking, okay, well can the Avs put.

Speaker 6 (32:12):
That behind them and bounce back? And the fact that.

Speaker 5 (32:15):
Signed it showing Miko Rantonham finally showed up for the series.
He scored his first goal, and I'm sure for him
that was something that's going to be motivating for him saying, look, hey,
we got this game. We're playing against the Abs. I
scored my first goal, I got my feet wet, I'm
ready to go, and now we know that we can
go to toe to toe with anyone, any line that

(32:37):
bet and our thrones out there.

Speaker 6 (32:38):
That's the way that they feel.

Speaker 5 (32:39):
But I like to think that the ABS are going
to take this as a sign and we need to
play our better we need to play better hockey.

Speaker 1 (32:47):
You certainly would hope so. And it's fascinating again the
ebbs and flows of a series. Right, we came into
this series, I felt really good about where the Abs
were at versus the Star Stars were dealing with some injuries.
They were on a really bad slide there heading into
the postseason, so you certainly felt like the Ads were
in the better position.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
Even though they didn't have home ice. They stole home ice.

Speaker 1 (33:07):
They they won right away, and up until this last game,
Dave Stars had sixty two seconds of time in the
lead and they were still too too, but that was
just because of the sort of extra overtime goals that
they got. But I'm not panicking whatsoever because all this
can change on Thursday night when they play again. But yeah,

(33:29):
the bad bounces of the puck, the you know, not
seeing your star player cal mccarr, I mean, it's not great.

Speaker 4 (33:37):
He's not had a great series, no, no question about that.
And he's not alone, no, of course, not not alone.

Speaker 5 (33:43):
But great to see Gabe Man, this guy back on
the ice getting some questions.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
Yeah, he's been great.

Speaker 1 (33:49):
We talked about it a bunch, Dave. I mean, it's
been great to see Gabe Landis cog back out there.
But once again, it's like, man, the thing is is,
you've got to find a way to not only win
this series, but then you know, get ready for the
next one, and you're starting to show some cracks the
time that you really can't afford to Yeah.

Speaker 4 (34:05):
I see, I don't think they can afford to look
I mean, you're I think you're right number one. I
don't think they can afford to look at that at
that way at all. I think they have dug themselves
this hole. They've got to come come back and and
they've they've shown the ability obviously the less time they
played at ball Arena they beat Dallas for nothing, So
they can do this. But it's it's gonna take everybody,

(34:29):
you know, playing better, really better than they have power.
Play wise, mcarr has been you know, he's had some
opportunities that just haven't gone in, but he has. He
hasn't been sort of he hasn't been at the level
that we've sort of grown accustomed to seeing him play at.
So I would expect, because he's a great young player,

(34:49):
I would expect him to bounce back in a big,
big way. I still think the As can win this series.
In fact, I think I think they will. But I
mean there's there's no there's no margin for air. And
now how much of that.

Speaker 5 (35:02):
Do you think for Dallas was just the fact that
the series were tied up, They're on their home ice,
and they were playing with their backs against the wall,
and they just came out and played well.

Speaker 6 (35:14):
I mean with now the pressures on the Aves, oh
no doubt now Kemp knone.

Speaker 5 (35:19):
Kim Aves now flipped the switch just like Dallas did.
And then knowing as though bed in our switch goalies.
I mean, how was that affecting Mackenzie Blackwood.

Speaker 2 (35:28):
Didn't affect Ottager?

Speaker 1 (35:29):
They pulled him in the third period of the game
before and he came back out and he looked tremendous.

Speaker 2 (35:34):
So that's a good question. Though.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
We can come back to that here in just a
little bit. We're lying from SAMs Number three diner in
bar and Glendale.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Come on down, say hi to us. We're here for
another hour.

Speaker 1 (35:41):
Come on down and also watch the Nuggets tonight. We'll
talk about them coming up next to Kaawa
