Speaker 1 (00:00):
Head out to the ko Comment Sparate Health Highline and
bring on a voice of the Nuggets for Altitude Television.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
That is the one and only Chris Marlowe.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Chris, thank you so much for the time, my friend,
you know, Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards and Shelby Harris.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
How are you well. It's great to be available.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Hey, Chris, great to talk with you. I know, gosh,
that had to be so fun Game one of the series.
And I just want to ask you when when you
look at this matchup after what you've seen in the
first game, the EBB and flow and how the Nuggets
hung in there and they showed just unbelievable resilience. I mean, what, realistically,
what do you expect to see tonight?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
What kind of game? Well? I think I think game
one was kind of a slap in the face to Okay, See,
they won sixty eight games. They were being lauded and glazed,
and everybody thought that they were going to either sweep
the Nuggets or win in five or maybe six. And
I just think that they came in with a sense

(00:58):
of kind of entitlement. And I think the Denver Nuggets
came in with, hey, we've won a championship before. We've
been playing well, we're coming off a tough series, but
we're in a rhythm, and I actually think the Nuggets
caught them by surprise, and I'm thinking, I'm thinking that's
going to be a much more difficult game tonight. I
think if Okac comes out and plays their best motivated,

(01:21):
that they should win. But I think the Nuggets have
a chance. I think they put a little bit of
doubt into the thunder, and you know when doubt kind
of creeps in and you start making plays or the
coach starts doing odd things, that can really affect a
team's chemistry. So I'm really curious to see, particularly the
first five or ten minutes of this game, how it goes.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Hey, Chris Shelby, here, us here this. How was okacs
body language after that? You know, tough, tough loss, and
just seeing you know, obviously the fans obviously we're all heartbroken.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
Well was it?

Speaker 4 (01:57):
How are the players first after what was all said
and done?

Speaker 3 (02:06):
You know, it was interesting to watch. I think they
were just in complete shock. They should have won that game.
Nuggets were fortunate to win. You could even say they
were lucky to win. They had to have so many
things go their way. The fouling, the made free throws,
the chet, the chet home, Griden miss free throws. Uh,

(02:26):
some great plays by by Jokic, the past by Westbrook
to set it up. You know, that could have that
could have ended in disaster. I thought that Russ was
heading into a double team, full speed racing up the court,
but he had the smarts to get it over to Gordon,
who makes the shot. So I think they were in shock.

(02:48):
I think the fans were sunned, and I think the
body language after the game was I think a little
bit of an act of Hey, this is no big deal.
Is one game we lost to a good team. We'll
make up for it, and we're going to get an
idea tonight when when Game two starts, if these guys

(03:08):
are ready to go.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
Yeah, I think that's exactly right. The press conferences were
kind of a little bit strange. They did seem to
sort of just pass this off as just a one
off kind of situation. How have you thought that the
team has responded since the dismissal from Michael Malone. I mean, again,
you win the three games of the regular season, you
win your first series against the Clippers, there's some out

(03:30):
there that wondered what this team was going to be
made of the kind of stuff they're going to be
made of without their head coach. I think it's been
pretty impressive.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Yeah, I do too. I think David Edelman sent a
horrific job. Obviously he's different than Malone. Malone was fantastic
for his time and winning a championship, but I think
sometimes just the message gets old and the players didn't
seem to be listening as close as they could. Adamman
Rings kind of a different perspective. He was the offensive
coordinator for eight years. I asked him is he going

(03:59):
to get involved with the defense, and he said, yeah,
you know, I've studied defenses for my eight years when
I'm on offense, and I think he's done a really
good job and adjusting. They played a lot more zone,
they play some matchup. I like the way they hedge
out on some of the guards instead of just switching
every time. So if you've got Christian Brown on SGA

(04:22):
and they cross and make a switch, you don't have
to switch Murray on him right away. You can hedge
out keep Christian involved in the play. I just like
some of the stuff they've done. It's just different kinds
of things. His message is direct, but it's not frantic,
and I love the way the phrase he uses, Hey,
remain calm, Remain calm. This is a team that has

(04:46):
a championship pedigree. If you just remain calm and hang
in there, good things might happen. And I think that's
exactly what happened in Game one.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
We're chopping it up with Chris Marlow. You see him
all the time in Altitude TV Nuggets and the Thunders
from Oak City. In Game two, I want to ask
you about one particular player in Jamal Murray, and I
think you know he's He's got unbelievable talent. Has has
played at an inconsistent level at times during the regular season,

(05:16):
but I have seen something really since the playoffs started
where I've seen not all the time, but stretches of
play where I mean he's been aggressive on defense. He's
getting into people, and I think I've seen that really
by and large from the team. I think the defensive

(05:38):
pressure the Nuggets have exerted in a few of those
games against the Clippers and from time to time in
Game one against Oak City is different than what I
saw during the regular season, you see him a lot
more than I do and cover him on a regular basis.
Is do you see the same thing or not?

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Well, I think they kind of bought into what Adelman
has been preaching, you know, with the different looks, the zone,
different types of ways to play defense. When I look
at Jamal Murray, I think to myself, there's no reason
why Jamal can't be an adequate defender. He's got size,
he's got tough, he's got grit, he's quick, he's not

(06:23):
the speediest guy in the league. He's smart. I think
when you assigned Jamal Murray to guard like Steph Curry
or John Morant or really good player, he's okay. He
does a pretty good job. When you assign him a
rotation play into the corner where he's not guarding anybody,
but he's supposed to come in and help out, and

(06:45):
there's three rotations and we're doing all that stuff. I
don't think that sometimes that he pays the attention that
that position needs. So I think Murray can play good defense.
I really do. He's shown him that he can do it,
and many coaches in my career and your career and

(07:06):
everybody defense is about want to how much do you
want it? Do you want to play hard? Can you can? You?
Can you do what the coaches are asking? And I
think the new schemes and you know, ratcheting up ten
to twenty percent on the regular season has made the
Denver Nuggets into a little bit better defensive team than
they were earlier this year.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
Chris, just one of my last questions I would say
is how how has Russell Westbrook's presence and this leadership
really enhanced this another team in the playoffs because obviously
he's taken on a bigger role I feel like of
being the leader. How how has this having Russell Wilson
helped his team in the playoffs?

Speaker 3 (07:45):
Russell Westbrook a lot about them, a lot, because that's
a that's a really interesting question. You know. Some some
people say, well he's just not not Westbrook to just
maybe ask about what's stay looking. Well, he's a he's
a good leader, He's a vocal leader. He leads by example.
Russell Westbrook does it all. He leads by example, he

(08:06):
leads by with his voice. He never takes a moment off.
He's turned out to be a much better defensive player
than I ever thought. I mean David Animan, who was described,
and you know, he flies around like Batman, getting involved
in all kinds of plays, some good, some bad. Even

(08:27):
Russ said that the other day. He's a good pastor,
he's an improved shooter. He shot over forty percent, and
he can just stay away from the kind of what
happened place. I call him what happened there, you know,
with the ball slips out of his hands or a
costly turnover here or there. I mean, he has basically
been the Nuggets bench, and I think tonight we're going

(08:51):
to see early can Michael Poor go Is he going
to be effective? And if he can't, then you're going
to see a lot more minutes from Westbrook. You'd like
to see Porter out there twenty five to thirty minutes
and getting you know, ten, fifteen, twenty points. But I
think Westbrook has been, you know, a terrific addition to

(09:13):
the Nuggets. He's a character and still very talented in
his seventeenth year.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
That is perfectly said. And yeah, that answer the other
night from Westbrook talking about the Russell Westbrook experience was phenomenal,
just means a work of art.

Speaker 4 (09:29):
It was.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
It was so great Chris, last one for me, really
appreciate the time you mentioned Michael Porter junior. That's kind
of where I wanted to go at this next one.
We saw obviously the fourth quarter he did not play,
played twenty four minutes total. Peyton Watson, Julius Straw the
got some minutes there. Russell Westbrook played a lot in
the fourth quarter. Do you expect to see sort of
a similar approach as you're trying to manage his minutes?

(09:50):
And then I guess specifically as this series wears on
and the playoffs were on, how significant is that for
what is a relatively short eight man rotation.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
Well, quite frankly, we in the media, myself, Scott Katie,
we don't really know how badly Michael Porter has heard,
how much pain he's in, whether he's taking a shot
to play. We just know what we saw last game
and he wasn't efficient. So I think, if I'm David Adelman,

(10:23):
I'm starting with Porter, I hope he plays well and
then you're going to have to go to the bench
and replace him. I thought, I thought Peyton Watson actually
had some good minutes. I think with more minutes he'll
play better, and I wasn't totally surprised that they utilize
Julian Stratherer. I know he hasn't played in a month,
but when you watched Julian strather and you realize what

(10:45):
he did last year, what he did this year, the
approvement he made until he got hers. Is he the
greatest defensive player in the world. No, but the Nuggets
don't have a lot of guys like that. But Kenny
get you twenty points and win you a game, like
Christian Brown did two season to go against Miami when
he came up with fifteen points, Maybe he can. So
I expect if Porter can't go, you see Watson first.

(11:08):
But I think you're gonna see a little straw that
you might even see some Jalen Pickett. I think it's
all hands on deck for sure for tonight.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Chris, you're the best. Really appreciate the time. Man can't
wait to watch tonight's game. Thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Let's throw baby,
