Speaker 1 (00:00):
Benjamin Albright with us. She'll be on again? Will you
be on tonight after or is it gonna be Zach?
Speaker 2 (00:05):
All right?
Speaker 3 (00:05):
Zach Stevens will be on with Broncos Country tonight followers, Yeah,
following what did I say?
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Stevens apologized.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Zach Segers our Zach Seegers will be on Broncos Country
tonight following the Rockies and the Cubs, which, again our
cover starts at about five thirty. What do you get into
the game tonight? The NBA game tonight here in just
a second, but I don't know if you guys saw
and I will also kind of make fun of myself
for this because I tend to like these kinds of things,
(00:34):
but I do acknowledge the practice of it in OTA's
is a little insanity. But the Browns, ESB and Cleveland
did a QB tracker on Joe Fla, Joe Flaco, Katie Pickett.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Dylan Gabriel and of course you Door Sanders.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
They went through and tracked how many completions, how many attempts, touchdowns, interceptions,
seven on seven in shorts its defense, ohta practice.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
So they tweeted this out today.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
I can see I look at your I'm not even
gonna tell you what this says. I'm just gonna say
I simultaneously grown and you love it too.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
Hit my cap a little bit, Yeah, you love it,
you love it.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
I don't even know.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
What were the Pro football focused grades on these?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Uh yeah, I mean what what? What? What are they?
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Do?
Speaker 2 (01:31):
You really want to know the numbers?
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Well?
Speaker 5 (01:33):
Not really, but since you brought now that you potted
it up, we have twenty four minutes left in the show.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Joe Flacco went nine for fourteen with touchdown on interceptions.
Should we say under seven of nine three touchdowns, three
touchdowns leave the team.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
Zero interceptions, good for sure.
Speaker 3 (01:50):
Katie Pickett nine of sixteen, no touchdowns, no interceptions, and
then Dylan Gabriel eleven of sixteen, two touchdowns.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
He did throw an interception, though, Oh I know.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
Uh oh, it's over for him.
Speaker 3 (02:01):
He's on the outside looking in in this quarterback competition.
Speaker 5 (02:05):
Yeah no, it's when when do we get to what
I mean, honestly, when did we get to this point?
Speaker 4 (02:12):
Are you guys not playing fantasy ot A in your
fantasy football?
Speaker 2 (02:16):
I'm not do you can we can you do that?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
There's probably a betting markets on how many passing attempts.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
I'm looking to do it right now, Sure you are.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, it's it's insanity, it's ridiculous. I will even acknowledge that,
although it's something that I would probably track myself when Patrick.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
Lynch was here. Were you tracking his completions in practice? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Probably living charts, don't we?
Speaker 2 (02:41):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (02:41):
Probably? I used to have a notebook. Okay, that's around somewhere,
all right, vote more training camp not ot as more
of a training camp thing.
Speaker 5 (02:48):
So in fairness, yeah, I mean I don't even know
really what to do with this. I think that, I mean,
coaches will find some benefit because they'll they'll go back
and look at that film.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
And I mean at seven on.
Speaker 5 (03:05):
Seven, at that level of football, you want your completion
rate to be seventy five percent or better. The ball
shouldn't really be on the ground too many times. You
may have an errant throw or a drop, but I
mean it's hard. You know, you can go back and
(03:28):
look at the film and you can see the footwork
of the quarterback, the timing of a certain route when
it's got to come out. But seven on seven is
set up for the offense to succes up to succeed
nine on seven the running portion, the running game portion
which you have to have pads on for that, that
(03:48):
is set.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Up for the defense to succeed.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
So that's I mean, I don't know that you can
draw any major conclusions based on those stats.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yeah, I would never. I'm not even saying you can.
I just thought it was funny because they're getting absolutely roast.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
It was ESP in Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
They pred out this a graphic card on it to yeah,
yeah whatever his name is, yeah, gold Hammer, gold Hammer.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
He would just be local guy, hear Goldhammer?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Yeah, went to East High School? Thing? Yeah? Yeah, good guy?
Is he?
Speaker 5 (04:18):
Did you have an issue with him? He didn't like
me too much? He didn't like you. Well, that didn't
mean he's not a good guy.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
He probably he's. He's just erning funny to go up
step or two?
Speaker 4 (04:27):
Actually is he combined two years ago where he came
over and apologize to me.
Speaker 6 (04:32):
Oh so there you go? All right now? Yeah guy,
everybody's ever bought me that beer he promised, But so
not much the game from it now. But I do
want to ask you this before we get to the
game tonight. You know how I feel about quarterback competitions
you got a.
Speaker 3 (04:48):
Four headed JABB Milwaukee competition that's going to be taking
place in training camp coming up Jabirwaukee.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
Yeah, it's it's a term. Yeah, So how.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
If you're that coaching staff, how do you even handle
something like that?
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Like?
Speaker 3 (05:05):
How are you how quickly are you going to try
to make that decision? How long do you let that
thing play out?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
I mean you're you're deciding.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I guess with Joe Flacco because of his better leadership,
you got Kenny Pickett, who is a Super Bowl champion,
by the way, and then you get a couple of rookies.
I'm not exactly sure how that is expected to work.
Speaker 5 (05:22):
So here's how I see that playing out in Cleveland
for both people here listening to the show that actually
care about the Browns. I think Joe Flacco will be
the starting quarterback Week one, and I don't know how
it's going to shake out the competition in the preseason.
They have to just like the Broncos, they have three
preseason games. Joe had success when they brought him back
(05:46):
and Kevin Stefanski was the head coach then, so I
think he gives you a bit more stability than any
of the other three quarterbacks, and I think depending on
how he plays and what can the start they get
off to, that may very well decide win one of
those young quarterbacks. I think that the interesting thing to
(06:06):
watch about the Browns quarterback room is which one of
the young quarterbacks kind of surfaces.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
And is next in line.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
Is it can he Pickett who's been in the league
a couple of years whatever, or is it Shador Sanders
or Dylan Gabriel. Gabriel a third round pick should do
or a fifth round pick. I don't think where they
were were picked necessarily will matter, but one of those
young quarterbacks, if the Browns get what they want this year,
I think Flacco will be the guy, and they hope
(06:37):
he plays well and then one of those either Dylan
Gabriel or Shador Sanders surfaces and he is the heir
apparent and ready to go at number two.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Yeah, who basically Flacco wins it. Picket isn't there, and
whichever one of the rookies picks it up the fastest
with the edge probably to Chador. Gabriel's got better tools,
but I think Schador's got to hire football like you.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
So they're just gonna cut pick it to that point
ran for him.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Yeah, but I mean it's you know, you'll you'll trade
him on to somebody, you know, and maybe you can
go back to Pittsburgh where they're their quarterback room is
a soup sandwich.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Sandwich.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
But I keep hearing Aaron Rodgers zimn it. Well, I
mean he probably will be.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
But okay, anyways, that New Orleans then it's probably enough
Browns conversation. But yeah, I just I thought it was
funny that they tweeted out the graphic, and then it
got me thinking more about like, hey, I hate quarterback competitions.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
This one with four guys. It's bad enough with two
or three.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Maybe, I mean, at least the Broncos narrowed it down
between sort of two guys by the second week of
training camp. I don't even know when you're gonna narrow
this thing down, well, not really, I mean, you think
about it.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
Zach Wilson sort of factored in in fact, he played
which preseason game was that last year?
Speaker 2 (07:49):
Played a lot? Was that the last one? Last one? Yeah?
And played pretty well.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
So, I I mean the staff in Cleveland probably know,
like after that preseason game number two sort of what
they're doing and then the starter won't play at all
in the preseason game number three, and they'll maybe they
rotate those two young guys and then maybe if if
they think one of those two young guys is the answer,
(08:18):
maybe can He Pickett doesn't get any reps, or maybe
maybe they try to move can He Pickett to a
team that is more quarterbacks starved than even the Cleveland Browns.
But you know, I don't think if Flaco's the guy,
then I don't think Pickett makes the team. If Picket's
the guy, I don't think Flacco.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Makes the team. But one of those two young.
Speaker 5 (08:38):
Guys, if they're the only way that you keep both
Flaco and Picket is in my estimation, if both Shador
and Dylan sort of show like, wow, they're not ready
to go, they may be Okay. At some point, neither
one of these guys right now do we feel comfortable
putting in a game and they can lead us to
(08:59):
a win, then you've got the two veterans.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
In fact, if I were a betting man, which I've
been known to be, I would put money on Kenny
Pickett being an Orleans Saint. Yeah, familiarity with Kellen Moore
in that quarterback room is Tyler Shug, Spencer Rads, Jay Hayner,
and Hunter Deckers.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
That makes sense. Just saying before we.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Get to tonight's game, which is going to tip in
about an hour and a half, I'm going to give
some love to the Pacers.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Tyree's Halburn. What a night.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Thirty two points, fifteen assists, twelve rebounds and four steals
and oh, by the way, not a single turnover. Are
we have we been maybe underestimating the Indiana Pacers a bit, Dave.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
I haven't.
Speaker 5 (09:41):
I think they in terms of the rotation, I think
they've got a better team than the Knicks, certainly deeper
team and a less than Knicks. Want to change how
they approach the game from a defensive standpoint. They they're
not going to you know, they may win tomorrow night
(10:03):
because it's a game in New York, but they're not
They're not going to win this series.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I think.
Speaker 5 (10:07):
You know, you've got to I mean defense, even at
the NBA level, I think so much of that is effort,
some of it is scheme, but you've got to be
willing to when a shot goes up and the other
team gets the ball, or a shot is made and
the other team takes the ball out of the basket,
you have to run back on defense.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
I mean I see.
Speaker 5 (10:26):
Kat and other Knicks players not not really busting there,
you know what, to get back on d You have
no chance against Indiana. The interesting matchup for me would
be Oak City and Indiana, and I think Oak City
would They would be a prohibitive favorite in the in
the series, they would have home courts and their defensive
(10:49):
mentalities a hell of a lot different. So you're going
to see Tyreese Halliburton getting picked up about when he
gets the ball thrown in from out of bounds under
the pacer basket, and it'll be it'll be much more contested.
He had so much He played great last night, but
he had so much room to kind of activate his game.
(11:09):
And I just don't think, you know, New York can't
beat Indiana. If Indiana's scorn one hundred and thirty points
period got.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
To take them out of their game, and they haven't
done it. I haven't seen a haliburt and this impressive
since stick Chaney was running the country.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
I like, ooh, nicely done.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Don't it just makes him want to do that more.
I just I slipped the one and we got fifteen minutes.
I got it out of the wire.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
It's interesting he took twelve three point attempts as still
scored thirty two points. It was plus sixteen in the game.
But man, I mean they're unbelievably deep. I mean you
get to their bench. They have you know, Obi Top,
and they have Tony Bradley, TJ. McConnell, Bennanicmathrin, and Ben
Shephard all playing twelve minutes or more.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
So that's the and I do wonder as the.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
Nuggets multiple times, not only in today's pressure, but have
been the depth of both both Oklahoma City and Indiana.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
If this is as we're in this new CBA a.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Bit of the blueprints what we're seeing with Oklahoma City,
what we're seeing with Indiana. And by the way, the
Nuggets kind of won it this way too, where they
had a lot of depth to be able to throw
at you.
Speaker 5 (12:15):
Yeah, I mean, ideally you would want David Adelman to
be able to develop the bench a bit more than
we saw in the last two or three years.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I think that.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
From the Knixt standpoint, the Knicks have to slow the
game down. They've got to play more in the half court.
You look at Kat Karl Anthony Towns and I made
the comment during during a break, He's the absolute dumbest,
really good player in the world.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I say that, not even it has nothing, no.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Sort of personal attack attack, but just watching him play,
he does increditly dumb things for being a really good play.
He is really talented for a for a seven foot
or just under seven foot maybe maybe even seven foot
to have that kind of skill set, to be able
to shoot the ball outside, you'll be able to put
(13:14):
the ball on the floor, take it to the basket.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
He just does some stuff.
Speaker 5 (13:20):
You're like, you just cover your eyes and say, what
exactly are you doing? He got his either third or
fourth file last night. He's defending high screen role. His
man goes to screen. He just reaches out and grabs
him by the arm and just tugs on him and
holds it and almost looks at the official, And I'm like.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
What it's an effective tactic?
Speaker 2 (13:46):
Oh man? So I don't know, man, I.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
You know, I sort of pull for the Knicks because
I think it'd be a cool story. I'm a big
Jalen Brunson fan. Neither Brunson nor Cat are very good
defensive players for sure, and then when you put your
defensive players in, you're challenge to score because you get
your two best scores off the court. So I think Indiana,
(14:11):
I mean, they're up three one, so no Earth Saturday
news here.
Speaker 2 (14:14):
I think they they win the series and move on.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
The one thing we didn't get to in the Attleman
comments the first segment was talking about shooting.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
He said one of the biggest biggest needs for this
team is shooting. But not just like well, I know, I.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
Know David broke correcord right, but he said it's timely shooting.
Like the way he framed it wasn't so much about
a volume conversation, more about we need guys that can
make those timely buckets and boy, yeah, like screaming from
the raptors man, like we all can see that it's been.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
A big necessity.
Speaker 3 (14:47):
And so either you're saying that message to the guys
that are currently on the roster, like hey, Julius rather
who's sitting front row by the way, become that guy
for us.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
We got to go find him.
Speaker 5 (14:57):
I think Strawther's got a chance to become that guy.
I think he's got to get physically stronger, but he's
a kid that has some shooting ability. But I look
at some of the other teams you look at, I mean,
Oak City has a defensive mindset, but they also have
guys that can knock shots down.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
From the perimeter. You look at Indiana.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Indiana has an offensive mindset, a continuous motion offense, but
they bring guys in off the bench that are smart,
tough players that I mean TJ. McConnell is not a
great three point shooter, and yet he's a solid enough
player that he can knock down a fifteen foot jump
shot and do so with regularities. So I think those
(15:43):
guys are out there. You can't tell me. I've said
this for years and years. I mean, you can find
those guys that are twelve to seventeen minute per night,
guys that are smart and tough and dependable and will
play hard and open. By the way, if they get
an open shot, open look, and you're gonna get open
(16:04):
looks with Jokic, they have the ability to knock shots down.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
I think Nikhil Alexander Walker is going to be actually
a free agent off Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (16:13):
Yeah come out us, but yeah, probably does. I mean
I like his game and he came on last game.
I'm like, holy cow. Now, now all of a sudden,
he's won of Minnesota's best. I mean, Minnesota at home
made eighteen three point shots and could not win. I mean,
I don't know how many times that stat has ever been.
Speaker 1 (16:34):
Oh, they across the board they like besides.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
The final score, had to win the game and.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
They had to win it.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
But across the board they put up everything that you
would say a winning team.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Should, except they just couldn't stop.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
Yes, Oklahoma City and Oklahoma City as good as they
played on defense, I mean, Minnesota scored whatever it was,
one hundred and twenty some odd points and still lost.
Speaker 1 (16:55):
Okay, So he's just got too many guys like you
talked about bringing.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
Back you got when you're ten through eleventh man, Isaiah Joe,
who could come in and train a couple.
Speaker 1 (17:01):
Of frees for you?
Speaker 2 (17:02):
No, I agree, big deal.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
No, let's get to.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
Show me the money presented by a Meristar casino resort
in Blackhawk here? What's that destination for gaming, dining, logic,
and entertainment. Of course we're going to be picking the
t Wolves at the Thunder Thunder minus eight and a
half over under two twenty and a half are our numbers.
Nick is taking the thunder Wow minus eight and a
half and the over the over.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
Benjamin, I'm with Nick on this. Give me the thunder
al Lady eight and a half and I'll take the
over over.
Speaker 3 (17:31):
We've been off to when I start here two and oh,
we're all one in one, Ryan, I think the t
Wolves keep this closer. Give me the t Wolves plus
eight and a half and.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Give me the over.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
K Over.
Speaker 5 (17:43):
Yeah, I think they keep it close for a minute
or maybe more, but I think in the end, too
much Oak City defense.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
So all three of you have the over. We all
on the over.
Speaker 5 (17:56):
I'm gonna take Oak City at home minus eight and
a half. I'm gonna take the over. Who's gone over
every every game this seek except I wanted to take
the under, but I just don't think theer is gonna hit.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Well.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
As you said, nobody's gonna be stopping anybody. I imagine
aunts will be better tonight.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
Like once you get to once you get started playing
each other five straight games like that, though you tend
to you know, you know, you figure out what they're
gonna go do on defense.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
It just it just tends to be who can make
your shots.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
Yeah, that seems like that game tonight. I'm really excited
about this one though. I mean, honestly, this game.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
Your Wolves against your thunder, not because that can't lose, right,
I can't lose.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Yeah, No, not because of that, because this the last
game was the best game so far.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
The series is blowouts up until then.
Speaker 3 (18:48):
If Minnesota could find a way to win this game,
I think they remain close to the rest of the way,
even though I think Old Klambas City's gonna end up winning.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Okay, seeing the Facers close it out in their next games,
and that's gonna be your finals, right, Dave, my friend an,
They're going good.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
See right, appreciate it, Grant, great job as always, Thank
you Ben for hanging out with us. We'll be back
tomorrow three o'clock Rockies baseball coming up next right here
on ko wait a fifty eight in ninety four onfl
Chick Dick the long Ball
