Pacers last night. But the Pacers showed up with the
energy that the Oklahoma City Thunder did not.

I feel like Oklahoma City a lot usually drops the

the time they were playing Game seven, it was I mean,
was a one arm with MPJ, one leg with a

Russell Westbrook dealing with two broken bones in his hand.
I mean, it was so okay.

was was nothing short of herculean like he he was
out there and it was inspiring stuff, and I wondered
if it would help the guys, if it would help

I'm like, man, this is inspiring stuff, Like you're an

You want championship here. But to answer your question, no,
I still think they were missing the required depth and
they were just on fumes like they were on fumes

it more like in the end. That's what that looked
like last night. The question I have for you and

I have for you guys is game seven us arriving
at Game seven in this series. Because I said yesterday
I thought the Pacers have been overachieving up to this point.
I still stand by that, but we can table that.
Is this more about the Thunder or the Pacer. Are
we at game seven because the Thunder haven't become the
team they were supposed to be at sixty eight wins

the Pacers a little bit? And the Pacers are that
kind of scrappy team that honestly, Oklahoma City should be
scared for in Game seven.

I think we underestimated the Pacers, now, we because I

lot of people underestimated the Pacers just because going into it, Okay,

they're going to blow them out. The four seed shouldn't

though we had, nobody watches and the Pacers aren't the
most don't play the most national games ever, and nobody
realized how good of team basketball the Pacers play. I

that first round because you we don't see the Pacers everybody,

When Indiana gets going and when they kind of play
free what I call free flow, Like they got four

you as a running back in this league, you have
a very short time frame and when the teams start
drafting players over you, when teams starts signing players over you,
that can start meaning that you know your career is
starting to shorten up and might end soon. So When
I say the most approved, I mean the most approved

to stick around in the NFL, because for what we
seems so far, it's not good enough. He's going to
have to step it up in order to stick around anywhere,
not just talking about with the Broncos, just talking about anywhere,
because with how deep this last running back class was,
so it's going to push players out of the league.
And so Audic essay it was he had his chance
last year. You know, they they all had a chance

last year to do something and to kind of cement
themselves as a name, and and and McLoughlin's really the
only one that did something that that Sean Payton feels
like he's all right, we can use him. They went
and they drafted our J. Harvey second round, and then

so I estimate it was things that were expected of him,
and he didn't necessarily fulfill those those that prophecy, and

is a situation where you got to realize that every

But Adric Estimate, I think had to He had to

get quicker feet at times in the hole.

But he is a big, powerful back, so what he has,
you know, at two hundred and thirty five pounds, you
know that's that's you know, those guys don't just fall
out of tree.

So I would take a good, long, hard look at him.
And I don't think the Broncos have made their decision like, hey,
we're going to move on from Estimate now. If I'm
Oudric Estimate, I don't like the fact that you signed JK.
Dobbins and I'm not even crazy about the fact that
you drafted RJ.

So I'm coming into camp like in the best shape
of my life, and I'm coming in with a big
chip on my shoulder, and I'm coming in knowing my
plays and when I get the ball, you know what,
I'm going to be hard to get on the ground.

Well, if you look at the Broncos struggles from last year,
they specifically struggled on short yardist situations and you have
a big back and it still didn't work.

And not only realize them a lot either, like that

Yeah, but at the end of the day, it's just
they didn't feel like he was going to be the
guy to get the the short the yard they needed four.
If in one you're not going to your two hundred
and thirty five pounds back, there's a problem, not necessarily
a problem that the team isn't just handing off. It's
a problem necessarily the player, and it's no confidence in
the player in order to hand him the ball off.

And so you can't be a guy who is a
strong big back. You don't have breakaway speed, You're not
necessarily the quickest guy in the world. You've got to
be able to go out there on third and fourth
down and show yard the situations and get that first down.
And the Broncos struggled severely with that last year.

But you said it perfectly and Dave can attest they
didn't trust him. Whatever reason, they just didn't believe. And
maybe it was because the fumbles early on, maybe it
was because he was a rookie. I mean, there's there's
a multitude of reasons they never felt settled at running

I think head coaches in the NFL, and I've played
for one, especially for young guys that are unproven. You
come in training camp, you go through camp, whatever, maybe
maybe you blow an assignment, maybe one time in practice
or maybe two times in practice and blet's pick up

that particular uh front, who who who who?

I mean, that is one of the all time swings
in a playoff performance. And I don't know, you you

might chalk it up to something else. This felt to
me like a team that hasn't experienced closing out a
finals series because they've never been here before, so they
don't know what it looks like. I think a more
experienced team would have stepped on the throat of the
Pacers last night. But the Pacers showed up with the
energy that the Oklahoma City Thunder did not.

It just kind of felt that, Okay, so they thought
it was gonna be easy, this easy, easy elimination game.
Any elimination game has never easy.

Like they took their soul in the previous game and
the Pacers are done.

Yeah, But what okay see did is they just gave
Indiana all the juice for Game seven, all the momentum
for Game seven, because everybody counted them out the man.
We heard about the Halliburton injury. Everybody counted the them
out from the beginning, and then they went out there
and beat the crap out out of the thunder like
the whole And one of the craziest part of that

game was the beginning of the third quarter when okay
like that, Indiana wasn't doing good at all. I could
believe four, but okay See was doing even worse.

I couldn't believe what I was watching it.

It was bad basketball on both ends, but okay See
just made it look just so egregious that it was
really hard to watch.

If they score ten points in those first five minutes,
like you're saying, game, it's a different game, and all
of a sudden, the pressure starts to mount on the Pacers.
I mean, the Pacers probably still win, but at least
at that point they're gonna feel it. They never felt
Oklahoma City from start to finish that game.

But then also just looking at the grand scheme of things,
I feel like Oklahoma City a lot usually drops the
ball when they have a chance to end the series.
I do, and granted they have come back out and
won all the other ones, but it's the NBA Finals,
anything can happen.

Well, you brought it up there with the Nuggets. I mean,
there's other example right there. They have a chance to
close out the Nuggets there in Game six, and they
obviously failed to do that. The Nuggets ended up winning
that game. They had to go to Game seven, which
they won decidedly. But the Nuggets at that point, by
the time they were playing Game seven, it was I mean,
was a one arm with MPJ, one leg with a

Aaron Gordon, Nikola Jokis was dealing with elbow. You had
Russell Westbrook dealing with two broken bones in his hand.
I mean, it was so okay.

So if Aaron Gordon doesn't get hurt, do you think
the Nuggets end up winning that Game seven or do
you think that really doesn't matter.

I listen, they came out in the first quarter, and
you remember they came out in the first quarter. They
punched okay, see in the mouth. They got up by
ten I think, maybe even maybe even twelve, but they
got it buy double digits in the first quarter in
Oklahoma City, and it was sort of like, this is
our best shot if we can get them feeling a
certain way early on in this game. Maybe we can
sustain that, Maybe we can trick ourselves into sustaining it.

I thought that what Aaron Gordon did in game seven
was was nothing short of herculean like he he was
out there and it was inspiring stuff, and I wondered
if it would help the guys, if it would help
the rest of the team to see him gutting it
out out there. He was clearly not close to even
fifty percent of himself, but he was out there. He

was taking shots, he was playing great defense. He had
a rebound around for Oklahoma s a thunder at one time.
I'm like, man, this is inspiring stuff, Like you're an
all time Nuggets for this performance by itself, let alone.
You want championship here. But to answer your question, no,
I still think they were missing the required depth and
they were just on fumes like they were on fumes

as a team.

You know, we can all always hope and always you know,
look back at at things and kind of you know,
hypothesize and question what if, what could have what could
have been? But the craziest part I guess, And we
talked about this yesterday regarding the Pacers, but guess who
showed up yesterday for the Pacers.

No, well, he did show he made.

And minhard like we talked about, they showed up for
their team. Yes, they coulda combined and it was big
shots and and so that's that's what I always say,
is like the not your main guys, not your stars.
The other guys are the ones that have to step
up to really propel you to to win. Especially on
a game where Miles Turner had three points.

I know well, and Obi top and had twenty points,
and then you had TJ McConnell, who continues to be
just a bit of an engine for this team off
the bench. I mean, he showed up and got twelve,
but he was he was out there hustling. I think
you have four steals and nine rebounds. I mean he
was really tremendous. So yeah, I mean the Pacers wanted
it more like in the end. That's what that looked
like last night. The question I have for you and

they will be back here in a second. The question
I have for you guys is game seven us arriving
at Game seven in this series. Because I said yesterday
I thought the Pacers have been overachieving up to this point.
I still stand by that, but we can table that.
Is this more about the Thunder or the Pacer. Are
we at game seven because the Thunder haven't become the
team they were supposed to be at sixty eight wins

and all those kinds of things, or would we underestimate
the Pacers a little bit? And the Pacers are that
kind of scrappy team that honestly, Oklahoma City should be
scared for in Game seven.

I think we underestimated the Pacers, now, we because I
thought they had a chance. From Again, I think a
lot of people underestimated the Pacers just because going into it, Okay,
see's the one seed, the overall one seed of the
of the playoffs, and so instantly when a lower seed,
like a four seed like the Pacers are, make it

the one seed automatically in everyone's eyes, it's like, all right,
they're going to blow them out. The four seed shouldn't
even be here and when. But like, no matter what,
though we had, nobody watches and the Pacers aren't the
most don't play the most national games ever, and nobody
realized how good of team basketball the Pacers play. I

didn't realize until I saw them dismantle the Bucks in
that first round because you we don't see the Pacers everybody,
I wouldn't say that we have a championship, just hype.

root for the underdog. Okay, I love underdog stories. That's

guy who nobody else is rooting for. And I think,

is like a David and Goliath, and I don't even
see it like that, because you know Goliath. You know
that's not the Thunder. They haven't won anything yet, and
so I feel like it's a more even matchup, and
like you can't just crown the Thunder. They haven't as
we see, they're a young team and they have sports
where you could tell they haven't been there before.

I'm not crying anybody, and you have crowned one. I
thought that Thunder from the very beginning. Now he said
in five, I had him, In six, I had Thunder
and six. So last night was the night if they
were going to do it. Based on what I thought
was gonna happen, I wasn't overlooking the Pacers at all.
I've been watching the entire postseason, and the Pacers are

say that when we entered the postseason, there were several
teams in the East that I liked, like Cleveland, New York.
I thought Cleveland. Cleveland was a mess in the postseason,
but they were They were a great regular season team.
I thought Boston. I really thought Boston and New York
would just separate themselves. They just seemed like the teams

They did do him a solid by going up, so

difference between playing at.

He played. They were playing at home, so he was
able to get all of his rehab, all this treatment

do it all day. You're not in the hotel room.

that same type of player if they're on the road.

I think it's a great point. I think having the

and they've been ahead by a lot this year, right,

a three, and then they get a steal, and they
hit another three, and now it's like, oh, then all
of a sudden, it turns into the reason I said

to you a long time ago. I thought Oklahoma City
was a little bit soft, and it was an offensive
way that I was looking at it. When things tighten up,
the other four cats kind of just stand there and say, Shay,
go ahead, go ahead and do your thing, and he
tries to go one on one. Well, Indiana's good enough
on defense with how they have schemed against SGA to.

So I think Oklahoma City will win. But I did
not like the way they responded last night. But did
you see the change in schemes from Indiana? Yes, press,

And they chased on screen rolls normally when they would
switch it. Now in this game, the guy that was
originally covering SGA they got screened continued to trail him,
so in essence, when he got to the free throw
line extended, which is where he likes to work and
pretty much where he can get any shot he wants.

You've got a guy. Now you're basically double.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
Team in the ball and somebody else is going to
a wide open look at that, But somebody else is
gonna have to hit it. And I think in Oklahoma
City the thunder are more likely to have guys role
players that'll step up and hit wide open shots. Well,
I just believe that with Indiana not necessarily going full
court press, it's going to eliminate a lot of those

open threes that we saw from okay See that they
were knocking down early in the series. And so I
really believe that Indiana's change of defensive scheme for that
last game threw Okasee off and they didn't recover. It'll
be interesting to see what little tweaks okay See does to,

you know, their offense to be more efficient, because I mean,
I look at a little bit differently. I thought they
got plenty of open looks last night. He's can throw
it in the ocean.

I mean at halftime, they're one of eleven from three.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
They shot twenty seven percent I think from three for
the I mean it's.

It's not they're not the greatest three points because when
they played Denver, yeah, because Denver was struggling from three,
but then all right there with them. Yeah, okay, see
it was always dinner was shooting in bed. Okay, see
was shooting bad.

When Indiana gets going and when they kind of play
free what I call free flow, Like they got four
or five guys that are not afraid to rise from
three point range and they can knock shots down. So
I still think Oklahoma City will win, but I did not.

Wow City turning the ball over twenty one times? Yeah, well,
I mean well I didn't have a turnover in two Yeah.

his ideal way of playing basketball is how the Pacers

and I kind of felt bad about it afterwards a

of empathy.

If I take a tease, try empathy oftentimes on this show, No,
I asked who is the most approved next year? You
said Audrick Estimate. I laughed at you initially because that
I gave you four options and you just said, I
don't want any of those options. I'm gonna go with
Addrick Estimate. Now, one hand, you might be saying because
you don't believe in JK. Dobbins. Maybe that's the case,
But why do you think audric estimates? I didn't ask you.

Why did you think Audric Estimate has the most approved
considering the fact that they drafted a second round running
back and they just paid five million dollars to JK. Dobbins.

Well, because, like I was kind of saying yesterday, if
you as a running back in this league, you have
a very short time frame and when the teams start
drafting players over you, when teams starts signing players over you,
that can start meaning that you know your career is
starting to shorten up and might end soon. So When
I say the most approved, I mean the most approved

to stick around in the NFL, because for what we
seems so far, it's not good enough. He's going to
have to step it up in order to stick around anywhere,
not just talking about with the Broncos, just talking about anywhere,
because with how deep this last running back class was,
so it's going to push players out of the league.
And so Audic essay it was he had his chance
last year. You know, they they all had a chance

last year to do something and to kind of cement
themselves as a name, and and and McLoughlin's really the
only one that did something that that Sean Payton feels
like he's all right, we can use him. They went
and they drafted our J. Harvey second round, and then
they went and signed JK. Dobbins. So who's there's a
couple as an odd man out in that situation. And

so I estimate it was things that were expected of him,
and he didn't necessarily fulfill those those that prophecy, and
so yeah, it's it's make a break for him. This
is a situation where you got to realize that every
snap you get could be your last year. Gott go out
there and play some good football. Otherwise you might be

I think he showed enough last year that you come
back with sort of an open mind to him making
the team this year.

The one thing that I thought he had to he
had to improve on, And I mean young players improve.

People think, you know how you see.

Guys the rookie year where that's how they are their
second year and think, no, I mean young players and
even older players can get better at certain things. Now
you get to a point where physically you're not going
to get any better, but then mentally you've seen a
lot of stuff and you're one of those smart kg
old dudes that is still a really, really good player.
But Adric Estimate, I think had to He had to
(28:46):
get quicker feet at times in the hole.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
But he is a big, powerful back, so what he has,
you know, at two hundred and thirty five pounds, you
know that's that's you know, those guys don't just fall
out of tree.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
So I would take a good, long, hard look at him.
And I don't think the Broncos have made their decision like, hey,
we're going to move on from Estimate now. If I'm
Oudric Estimate, I don't like the fact that you signed JK.
Dobbins and I'm not even crazy about the fact that
you drafted RJ.
Speaker 1 (29:24):

So I'm coming into camp like in the best shape
of my life, and I'm coming in with a big
chip on my shoulder, and I'm coming in knowing my
plays and when I get the ball, you know what,
I'm going to be hard to get on the ground.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Period.
Speaker 2 (29:38):
Well, if you look at the Broncos struggles from last year,
they specifically struggled on short yardist situations and you have
a big back and it still didn't work.
Speaker 1 (29:49):
And not only realize them a lot either, like that
is true, Yeah, that is true.
Speaker 2 (29:54):
Yeah, but at the end of the day, it's just
they didn't feel like he was going to be the
guy to get the the short the yard they needed four.
If in one you're not going to your two hundred
and thirty five pounds back, there's a problem, not necessarily
a problem that the team isn't just handing off. It's
a problem necessarily the player, and it's no confidence in
the player in order to hand him the ball off.
(30:15):
And so you can't be a guy who is a
strong big back. You don't have breakaway speed, You're not
necessarily the quickest guy in the world. You've got to
be able to go out there on third and fourth
down and show yard the situations and get that first down.
And the Broncos struggled severely with that last year.
Speaker 1 (30:32):
But you said it perfectly and Dave can attest they
didn't trust him. Whatever reason, they just didn't believe. And
maybe it was because the fumbles early on, maybe it
was because he was a rookie. I mean, there's there's
a multitude of reasons they never felt settled at running
back West.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
I think head coaches in the NFL, and I've played
for one, especially for young guys that are unproven. You
come in training camp, you go through camp, whatever, maybe
maybe you blow an assignment, maybe one time in practice
or maybe two times in practice and blet's pick up
(31:09):
your your your eyes are in the wrong spot on
that particular uh front, who who who who?
Speaker 1 (31:16):
You have right?
Speaker 2 (31:17):
So that starts to chip away a confidence. Then if
you put the ball on the ground not once maybe
but maybe two times, then it's like what happens for
coaches at that level is once they get into the
regular season, they're they're not they're not spending a hell
of a lot of time on trying to make sure
they're young people get snaps they're they're trying to come
(31:38):
up with schemes that can beat the raiders on Sunday
in Las Vegas. And I think, I think, I think
he fell I thought I think Esme sort of fell
into that rut and he just had a hell of
a hard time getting
