Speaker 1 (00:00):
Stay tuned top of about the hour for the latest
(00:01):
breaking news updates around the situation with Iran launching missiles
in Cutter although the President's already addressed and that appears
to be over Mistay tuned for the latest updates with
Rob Dawson the rest of the KWA News team. Gentlemen,
I had a whole plan as halftime hit Pacers and
Oka see pacers up one. Well, I was going by
Burger King. I was going to wear a crowd in here.
(00:23):
I had a whole plan going.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
What happened to it?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
The crowd fell off about midway through the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Wait okay, see decided to wake up and and I
had to text my formal surrender to one Dave Logan
with about.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
Eight minutes ago.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
I was going to text you honestly at halftime and say,
OKAC is primed to get their ass beat.
Speaker 2 (00:45):
With the way they played in the first half, Oh yeah, no, no,
no question, no question. They came off sluggish. They didn't
take advantage of Halliburton getting hurt, right, like you know,
it was just kind of like they were just you
would think one of their players got hurt. The way
they played, like in shot and I agree. I mean,
it's just they were.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Terrible from downtown in that game where they were like
eleven or four.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
The old whole series, this whole series, they really struggled
for their outside shooting and and really they this was
by far probably their worst series they played the whole playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Yeah, it was after I was sitting there like, okay,
all right.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
I texted one Ryan Edwards and I was like, you know,
I wonder if Dave's a they's got a case of
the tight cheeks right now about tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:28):
I'll tell you you can call them tight cheeks or
pucker butt or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
I didn't like the way they played.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
I was talking to a friend of mine and I said,
you know, the Oklahoma City offense in the first half
is playing just like they play down the stretch in
really close games where they get tight and it's it's
four out and it's Shade trying to create one on
(01:57):
one off the dribble or they backshit where they mean whatever,
and even some of the shots that they were getting,
nobody was nobody was hitting. I just I give them
their credit. They win the championship. They play really hard
on defense, but I think offensively, I don't think they
have a great player in SGA, but they I mean,
(02:20):
they've got some holes in that offense.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
They seem to get to the point where if it's
not hey Shay Bayle is out, they're praying for Dort
or Caruso to come alive from three.
Speaker 3 (02:28):
And Dort wouldn't look in that hot last night.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
No, it was it was a struggle for I guess everybody.
But then they were they were doing well in offensive
glass and then that's how the big men were getting
involved in that. And it's just, man, I we can't
speak enough about how heartbreaking you know, that feeling would
be the tarrier Achilles in Game seven. But like, let's
be real to you though, like I had mentioned it,
I think last Thursday, just about the fact that you're
(02:52):
playing that risky game when you're playing with a cap straight.
It's true and we've seen it the last you know,
we saw with Tatum, we saw with Dan and then
you know we saw with Anon Rodgers. We've seen it
all over the sports where a cath injury which is
known can lead to an achilles. But I don't think
anyone here Game seven you gotta play. But now Pacers
(03:15):
for next year are screwed. Yeah, like they're in a
bad spot for next year.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
He's out with nine months.
Speaker 4 (03:22):
Yeah, I would say you'll miss most, if not all,
the regular season next year. But here's the thing. I mean,
there's nobody who in the East right now. I mean
Cleveland comes back relatively intact. Orlando the good young team
and all their pieces are back, plus they've added Desmond Bane.
(03:45):
So Boston is without Tatum Nicks Knicks ought to be
all right, dude, a team.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
That just has not gotten any better over the last
five years. And you're thinking, you know, they draft good players.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Charlotte.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Charlotte has been one of the bottom feeders of of
the league non stop, and every year I don't see
them ever making any moves to actually make them better.
And it says and that's and that goes for a
lot of teams in the East. And it's this year
and the next year coming up with a couple of
teams with you know, achilles injuries. That got the Bucks
with Dame Lillard, you got Indiana with Halliburton, the East
(04:23):
is and then with Boston you're you're it's wide open.
It's wide open.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
This is bizarre conspiracy theory. That may only number zero,
number zero. Man, they're all number zero, every one of
them with a pots achilles. I hadn't even thoughts on that.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
I watch him go down and then Matfid came in
with a double zero, so I'm like, play put on,
that could be both.
Speaker 3 (04:47):
Yeah, they're all over, They're all number zeros.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
It was just and I mean, I'm telling bow Nick
to change to eleven, just get that zero off there
or whatever. I'm not a superstitious guy, but watching that,
I was just like, Wow. I don't think that Halibert
was difference in that game, though. I think Indy lost
that game. I mean, in the second half, they went
right back to what had cost them games on the
cross court passes instead of the hand offs or try
and like these stuff and the turnovers. McConnell's pressing, trying
(05:11):
to make stuff happen, and granted.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
He was the only one scoring, but he was trying
to make stuff happen.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
And it's stupid dribble under the goal and then run
it back out thing that he does every time.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
I'm like, you know, at some point you gotta.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Well, it works when you're a switch up from Halliburton,
but when you got to play forty minutes.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
The rotation eventually wears you down.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
And that's a tough part though, because Tyre's Halliburton started
off hot. You know what I mean what he had
three three easy. Yeah, he was already still was his
team's leading three point shooter. Yeah, we're only playing seven
minutes of the game, so he.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Had nine points in what so Yeah, it wasn't like
seven minutes.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
So does this put an asters on the Thunders win? No?
Speaker 3 (05:48):
No, I no, I can't do that. I mean it's
a team game. You can't do that.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
You know, people claim claim all the time, Oh that
doesn't count all this and all the even people talk
crashing the Lakers bubble wind, But that one's different, right,
the bubble wind.
Speaker 4 (06:03):
I probably follow to that category of saying, like, really, okay,
there's nobody in the stands, there's no crowd, you know,
home crowd advantage.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
With last night, I had.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Talked about as much as I like TJ McCollum and
and what he has provided, I did say I think
when you start, because he had had a really impressive
performance in one of the games before, and there were
people that are talking about he needs to play more
and Haliburton needs to play less. I honestly think when
you have a really good role player, which he is,
(06:34):
there is the law of diminishing return. And if you
get him to play fourteen to eighteen to twenty twenty
two minutes, then he changes the tempo of the game.
He can knock down mid range shots. He's not a
great three point shooter. He's smart, he's tough. He's everything
you want for a guy coming off the bench. But
(06:56):
if you are forced to, or you think about, I'm
gonna play this guy thirty five minutes, I think then
some of his physical limitations start to show. And I thought,
I mean he was as good as he was in
the third quarter offensively, I mean, at one point I
think he scored.
Speaker 2 (07:17):
Two. He also turned the.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Ball over a bunch and and I think that's just
a byproduct of the injury. So I look at it
a little bit differently, Ben than you do. I I
do think the Halliburton thing was huge because when he.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Hit the third three.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
That thing was like he caught that took one step
and I'm like, oh no, it's like he's gonna He's.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Gonna say I'm shooting this.
Speaker 4 (07:44):
Whenever I have an opportunity and y'all want to back up,
I don't care where I am.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
I'm letting it go. Yeah. But the one thing I
feel like, you know, the Pacers were missing obviously was
that guy who who when all those fails, doesn't care,
We'll shoot it.
Speaker 3 (07:59):
Yeah, And it didn't have that.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
You had a bunch of guys being deferential passing up
and the guys who were shooting were taking awkward looking
shots from weird spots on the court.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
And I do think Oak City turned up their defense.
They definitely did. But still what it made me realize though,
is a lot of those guys on Indiana are catching
shoot guys because that's what Halliburton specializes in, getting into
the paint and then distributed in the rock YEP. But
they didn't have that, and that's why that whole second
hals The Pacers just looked flustered like they couldn't get
(08:27):
an easy shot. Granted, like you said, Oklahoma City's defense
definitely stepped up, but there's only so much, you know,
you can do without your best player. And then you
had to, you know, a poor man's Sean Livingston out
there really balling and going way beyond and doing what
he's supposed to do. It just wasn't enough. The Pacers
did not have enough firepower to keep up with a
(08:49):
healthy OKAC.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Team that was and in the end we saw that,
I mean the rotations and everything.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
They started wearing down mid third quarter by the time
I think it was Wallace hit at three to put
them up to twenty one or whatever.
Speaker 3 (08:59):
And that was at that point you were like, Okay,
there's just not They tried. They put a run on,
got it back to with Nintendo.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
It was a much much more competitive series than I envisioned.
And you got to give it to Indiana because again,
I thought they were really well coached. I thought I
thought they did defensively against Oak City what a lot
of teams had not been able to do. I thought
(09:24):
they were unselfish with the ball driving kick. I mean
that Rick Carlisle's done a great, great job with that roster.
And even though I picked Oak City uh and won
the bet, I am not sitting here today saying if
Tyrese Haliburton is healthy for that game, I don't know
(09:44):
how that game turns out.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
I really I.
Speaker 4 (09:47):
Thought Oklahoma City in the first part of the game
offensively and for most of the first half was exactly
what they didn't want to be, which was tight offensively
and just unable to get into any offensive rhythm whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Yeah, in the end, I mean, you know, congrats to Okay.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
See, there's a there's there's sort of that what if
factor I think with Halliburton. But in the end, I
just you know, what what a team, what a what
a great run. I mean, they were the They have
the second best all time net rating behind the the
seventy two in Bowls.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Man, it was a huge what if factor. You talked
almost seven minutes into the first quarter, you're you know,
one of your best players is hurt. There's nothing on
anyone's mind, but what if Halliburton, say thought, because with
the way that Thunder were playing, they would have got
their ask if Halburton would have kept playing like that.
Speaker 4 (10:33):
I'm sure you're not right, Yeah, really not so sure.
Speaker 1 (10:36):
I just never want to lay you know, I mean,
I'm the loser on the bet on that one, so
I never want to lay it at the feet of
at the feet of that which, by the way, for
those keeping score at home, we ended up trading out
stake dinners uh one for it going seven games.
Speaker 3 (10:46):
Still two up your one up? Sorry too up?
Speaker 4 (10:49):
Yes, thank you, thank you, he said, don't maybe please
hold on right paper right now.
Speaker 1 (10:56):
That wasn't the only big news in the NBA that
Kevin Urant got traded man hocket Hall. Now the Phoenix
Suns have what seven shooting guards and nothing else on
that roster.
Speaker 2 (11:08):
Man, you gotta think, honestly, like but like it's you know, whatever,
hall of famer getting traded. But Houston gave up a
lot well, and I get it that last that last
playoff series might have turned him off of Jalen Green
a little bit. Against the Warriors, he struggled immensely. Dylan
Brooks is to you know, the way people describe him, well,
(11:30):
it's just I think it's just a fake, fake tough
guy because whenever it's time to get you know, time
to get a stop, he gets torched every time. So
you know, it's a guy where he's like, all right,
well he was good for the year or two we
had him. Now it's like we're getting KD but you
you're losing, like you know, it's it's tough giving up
on a young Jalen Green. And I think that's probably
(11:51):
the toughest part about that trade is giving up on
a Jailen Green. But if you have a core that
you think can win right now, I guess you gotta
go for it.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Deal was Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, number ten overall and
a five second round picks, which in the NBA is
not really that.
Speaker 4 (12:05):
Is a trade bait. Yeah, but see here. I used
to think same thing about second round until I heard
the stat last night after the game the Oklahoma City
Thunder the top ten maybe it's eleven in their rotation.
You have you have two guys in that rotation that
weren't even drafted. You have you have four or five
(12:27):
that were second round draft to card Dort, so and
so I think this. I think Sam Presty's done such
a great great job with the construction of the roster,
and I think we can talk about the Nuggets changes
in the front office, but I think the blueprint is
is out there. You know, you've got a great player
(12:48):
in SGA. I mean loud Dort, who I grew to
really enjoy and be fond of watching how he played.
I mean, loud Dort doesn't care if he scores twenty
or scores five.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
How to top of the game. Like yesterday on that
fast break.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
I have had like three key rebounds in the fourth
quarter that kept possessions alive. But everybody Oklahoma City has,
I mean they have, they have exactly what they should do,
the roles defined, and then you get guys that come
out and play unselfish and same with Caruso.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
Yeah, Caruso will.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Get some open shots because you've got SGA handling the ball,
but they are defensive minded players that have bought into
the concept that hey, we've got to be able to
get stops on people. To me, that's that's what won
the championship. Aside from the greatness of Sga.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Yeah, Dort, you know, he reminds me of a little bit.
Is that you guys remember Leadro Barbosa, the Brazilian guard.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
I don't think but I don't think he's got that
kind I don't think he's got Barbosa's offensive game.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
And I like, like, I'm saying he's better than Tony Schell,
But it reminds me of a guy who really he
wasn't necessarily out there.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Score six' Five. Tony he played with The. Celtics it
reminds me a little bit Of Tony allen uh in
that number, one nobody wanted to mess with. Him number
two he earned his reputation of being a stopper and
a tough.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
GUY i THINK i Think doord is physically.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Tough you look at. Him he's got two d and thirty.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Pounds, yeah, NOW i just it's my, QUESTIONS i, Guess
and As i'm looking at The thunders contract situation is
more of like how long are they going to be
able to you, know do. This they're gonna be for a.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
While it's the real genius to, Me but oppressed he
is that you've got this thing together and you can
keep it going by just spinning off one or two
players at a time and keep it Relog i'm.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
Talking about Like i'm just looking at the contact. Situation
does no one and well has to get? Paid? Right
but that's? It get Oh jalen Uh Jalen williams to get. Paid,
yeah but he'll be the.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
One he'll be the one that gets spun off and
as they, keep you, know as they keep doing, that
because did you could trade him away for assets and
still come.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Back but, yeah chests not to get. Paid other than, that,
though there also was pretty much, untact and so they
just keep adding, on add a little bit more shooting
because obviously that was the one part we saw that
he struggled a little. Bit but we haven't really seen
a team struggle with shooting that much and win in
a while because it's a shooter's. Lead but, man This
thunder team is going to be around a lot.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
Problem for a long.
Speaker 2 (15:30):
Time.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, absolutely congratulations to them as it. Goes nuggets made
some news as. WELL i don't know if you guys
had a chance to look at Then tenser was named
the EXECUTIVE vp Of Basketball. Operations uh, Uh timberwolves Executive
John wallace is the new EXECUTIVE vp of Player. Personnel
both report To Josh. Kronky no general manager yet, yet
(15:50):
but And tenser was a guy that a lot of
people speculated was going to fill that.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Role SO i, mean, so do you you think there
were still waiting on A. GM i don't think. SO
i think we're waiting on a TITLE. GM I i
don't think.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
SO i think it's gonna be an internal BUT.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
I think there'll be somebody that has that that that that,
title AND i Think kronky has split that out over
a couple of different, roles and.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
He's you, know he's going to set a top that.
Speaker 4 (16:16):
SEE i think you're gonna Have tinser And. WALLACE i
Think tinser will be in charge of the business side
of The, Nuggets wallace will Be wallace more in charge
of the basketball.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
Side and then you Got Josh.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Cronky And i've said this, BEFORE i THINK i think
it's a little unusual to have an owner that HAS i,
think really good basketball.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
ACUMEN i Mean, josh and you like.
Speaker 4 (16:43):
Him don't like, him you know whatever about firing, guys
and you can you can certainly second guess some of those.
Moves we all. Do but he he understands. Basketball he
played The university Of. Missouri he's more of a basketball
guy than a sort of owner as we.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Know it in THE nba.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Guys SO i think they're done with with hiring bringing guys.
IN i think those two guys will will answer upstairs
To josh and and off they.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
Go, basically they did go outside the organization with some
of the.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
Interviews they Interviewed Golden State director Of Basketball Operations Chuck,
Hayes MIAMI vp player Personnel Eric, amsler somebody who's very
tied in With Chris quinn over, there who's sposterous. Assistant
somebody's rumored for the, job the head coaching job here
Before adaman ended up getting. It you think there's anything
to that as far as looking down the, line if
the Se addleman thing doesn't work, Out.
Speaker 2 (17:33):
Uh it could always, Change BUT i don't see it
now working out unless they don't, either unless they don't
go get. Shooters, well it's just it's the name of the.
Game we saw all, plumas did? They we see it?
Here you, know are The nuggets advancing if they have
more shooting because they handled all their other all their other,
business and so no matter who it BECOMES gm or
(17:55):
if they even if they just do an internal hire or,
whatever the goal for their off seasons are he, said
you know WHAT i. Mean at, first they got to
figure out what they're gonna do With Jamal murray AND,
mpj if they're going to keep one or the other
or maybe trade both of. Them but then it's just putting,
players complimentary players Around joker to to utilize his.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Prime, well we, can and we can get into that.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
Here you, know after the, BREAK i do want to
say what players can they bring in you, know you've
got to probably move on From. PORTER i THINK i
think we all are in agreement that that's something that's
going to.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Happen, Uh LIKE i sometimes am sometimes not because sometimes
the grass is not. Greener, True and then in the
in a year like, this AND i always hit it
BECAUSE i feel like The bucks always have. It they
always do something like this where they trade a player,
away the next you, know he becomes a. Superstar So
i'm always weary about trading guys away that sometimes are,
underachieving but sometimes a change of scenery is exactly what they.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Need would would we be interested in something that brought
In Bradley? Beal phoenix is looking to move him as.
Well you, know he does provide somebody who's who is a.
Shooter would you know there was of that as he
was on the market prior to getting moved To.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
Phoenix Is Bradley beale that interesting to people?
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Here to? Me it?
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Would it would. DEPEND i Think bill's a good offensive.
Player he's more of AN iso, guard.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
Can play in the, wing you. Know to, Me I'm i'm.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Trying i'm looking at What Oklahoma city did and how
they constructor their team And i'm trying to steal as
much as they possibly can in terms of exactly how
they did.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
It and when you see How.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Sam prest he constructed the roster there with two guys
that weren't drafted four or five second round draft, choices
that to me tells me if you're intentional and you're
specific with respect to what do you want your team
to look? LIKE i mean they The nights have. To,
YES i Think shelby's, Right they've got. To they've got
(19:54):
to get better. Shooters they also have to get guys
that are willing to go out and play. Defense give,
me give me some effort on the defensive. End you
don't have you don't have enough of those.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
Guys ever since cacyp And Bruce, Brown it's it's been pretty.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Vacab So i'm looking at guys like, that doesn't matter
WHERE i get, them But i'm looking at guys like
that that can fill a. Role how many how many
like Loud? Dort how many teams would Loud dort like
start and have that kind of role that we? Know
would Lout dort start In Golden? State would he start In?
(20:32):
Houston would he start in?
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Uh New?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
York five, TEAMS i think start for. It but look how.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Valuable that guy is because of physically what he can.
Do and and kudos To Oak city for finding somebody like.
Speaker 1 (20:48):
That All, right hey, guys Said kway's preset on our
free and Redesigned iHeart radio.
Speaker 3 (20:52):
App like you have in your.
Speaker 1 (20:53):
Car there's a loving the new industry first, features Said
kaway's a preset today on Our iHeart radio.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
App we Come.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Back broncos made a little news. Today we'll get to
that we come. Back i'm talking about that overseas. Man
That london a tax bite.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Though. Man that's WHY i feel for The Minnesota. Vikings
got to play In ireland then go To, london because
that's two straight, games you taking them at LEAST i
would say a fifty two percent hit your. Paycheck, yeah
it winds.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
UP i mean the base on that's forty so whatever
you have to pay back here plus the forty. Percent
so The Minnesota vikings, players who are additionally celebratory by
getting to play two games overseas back to, back they
had two games with the losing forty percent of their
paycheck to have to pay foreign, Taxes so.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
Forty percent over there plus what they pay, here well,
NOT i don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:34):
ALL i don't think it would.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Be there's some federals that'll come off of, it but
not the.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
State they won't have to pay the state or local
for those two, games but they will still have to
pay federal at the. End but they got to pay
the forty percent for the locality for playing over there
on those.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
Games one THING i do remember, though those texts are
just a little bit, smaller a little, lighter a little
lighter after those over overseas. Game but, honestly, honestly it's
worth the, experience you, know it's it's a great experience
to you, know be be out and about around around
a different kind and for the WHEN i went To
london my rookie year playing with The, raiders it was
my first time out of the. Country so it was
(22:07):
just a cool, experiences you. Know it's it's especially a
kid coming from nothing From, Milwaukee wisconsin and then ended
up In. LONDON i was just sitting, THERE i WAS
i was in a dream the whole TIME i was.
Speaker 3 (22:18):
There it was a it was a fun.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Week and like initially BECAUSE i got there early last,
YEAR i planed ongether earlier this year or not that
last year when it was two years ago AND i
went FOR i wanted to go for a tour of the,
globe you, know The shakespeare.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Here, Yeah Courtland suton side up for the same.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Tour so we're just, there but we're both there just
randomly getting The shakespearean tour out of, nowhere which is you,
know it was just kind of kind of interesting to
see Because i'm a person that CRAVES i love the learn.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
THING i crave.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
KNOWLEDGE i love to, learn so and it was just
interesting to see someone outside of their natural environment sort
of sort of doing.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Something that's one of THE i think one of the
positives about these. TRIPS nfl, teams like The broncos played
the Previous sunday In, philadelphia they'll leave right From, philadelphia
uh and fly To london.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
Practice over there for the entire.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Week but you're gonna HAVE i, mean even though you've
got a game coming up On sunday against The, jests
you will, have As shelby was talking, about you'll have
some downtime and for a lot of, Guys AND i
mean the FIRST i got to go To london WHEN
i was at The university Of, colorado we had been
An All star basketball team that toured over, there but
for a, kid and even now to go, to As shelby,
(23:24):
said another. Country it's a cool. Experience and the point
of this is the teams will let their players go
out and experience some of the cool, things stay out
of trouble in the city Of london, well which is.
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Nice the crazy PART i always say about it is
if it was A tuesday in my home, city you
would know WHERE i was, exactly so me leave me,
alone let me go because this is my. Time don't
bring me out to the city or this different country
and then lock.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
Me up in a hotel the whole. Time but that's
not what WE'RE i don't think. THEY i, Mean i'm
sure about. Curfew the did you guys when you were
with The raiders have a? Curfew not?
Speaker 2 (24:04):
On so we did during the, week like when we
have practice Like Wednesday, thursday But Monday, Tuesday Monday, tuesday,
no and Then friday will be a extremely like you,
know like a one, am two am sort. Deal but
just make sure you're back. Home and Then saturday obviously
ten thirty.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Eleven, yeah, WELL i MEAN i didn't there's something to having.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
THAT i you, Know i've been on some road trips
before where And i'm not going to name, anybody but there's.
Speaker 3 (24:28):
There's been you, know there's been players out after.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
CURVE i rescued a player out after curfew one, time you,
know that was in an area he shouldn't have shouldn't
have been it could have got himself in some real.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Trouble but that's you, KNOW i, mean it's.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
That comes with it, though that's you, know what do you,
Expect like some of these guys are twenty, one twenty,
two first time in the, big a big new. CITY
i expect nothing less or you know WHAT i. Mean
it's it's it's just what happens when you decide to
do these international, games go to these cool. Cities people
are going to want to experience. THEM i don't blame.
Them but also our biggest thing this is that's WHY
(25:00):
i agree with going for the. Week get it out
of your system, now because Once wednesday And thursday here
we got to go back to.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
Work dial back.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
In how hard is it like in the off season
TO i don't want to say touch base with your,
teammates but kind of keep that together because you do
have young guys who just come into. Money you do
have every temptation on the, planet and you're in the
off season now where you're not getting checked in on as.
Much is there a you, know do you guys have
a like like an internal way that you keep sort
(25:28):
of accountability to make sure everybody's doing what they're supposed
to or is you just you just crossing your.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Fingers and hoping the young guys get.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
It, yeah you're you, know you're just checking a little.
Bit but you're on your. Own you're an. Adult you,
know it's it's it's go out there and you, know
we'll have a, talk you, know exit. Meetings we're all
talking to be, like, hey be. Safe you, know like
one mistake this off season can injure your. Career but you,
know obviously during the off season we'll check in some
little memes here and, there but for the most, part
(25:53):
you're on your, own you know WHAT i. Mean everybody
goes back to their families this family time or you,
know if anyone knows those young guys this is running the.
Streets you're, like you, know it's you're back with all
your old friends and it's time to. Party you got
a little money in your, pocket and that's why they
say most of the times people get in trouble obviously
the off, season yeah AND i and yeah, that but
then even more so this break after, uh this, break
(26:17):
after me after me. Camp you, know especially the. Rookies
the rookies all just signed their.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Deals they got the bonus.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
Signing bonus in the, pocket and then and then you
just go a little crazy and you got to be
humbled a little.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
Bit do you THINK nil has helped with that, though
because you have guys coming into the league that are
more used to having money than than than.
Speaker 4 (26:36):
BEFORE i would say that that may be one way
to look at. It AND i think there probably are
as many, people certainly there there there would be more
football people that would, say, yeah you've got some young
guys that are used to having. Money but has that
taken the edge off of some of these young guys
(26:59):
in terms of how hungry they have been coming out of. College,
well the league has been set up for years and
years and years and years About, hey you've been in.
College you haven't for the most, part made any. Money
some of you have come from no, money no money in.
College now we have, You now we've got, you and so.
(27:19):
YOU i think the league looks at it back in
the day and, said we we have your full, Attention
we have you knowing that this is the most important.
Thing where with some of these young cats now that
might not necessarily be the. CASE i would argue that
these kids actually just get in trouble earthlier.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
In their career in. College but, yeah something like they're
getting in trouble in college now because they're getting this,
money and then when by the time they get to the,
league it's kind of, just, uh you, Know i'm already a.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Millionaire but that's sort of my, point like at the
end of like you're getting it out of you WHERE i,
MEAN i experienced this on a limited basis WHEN i
was WHEN i got out of basic. Training, right you've
all been cooped up for a lot of these. Guys
it's the first time they ever had any. Money what's
not but it's still. Money you got a three day
pass before you got to hit your, training and it's
the time everybody gets in.
Speaker 3 (28:06):
Trouble like a bunch of guys get in trouble at
that point in.
Speaker 1 (28:07):
Time and so Like i've seen it before on that
on a smaller, scale AND i just wonder if if
they're getting out of the way earlier with niow money
with younger guys that don't have access to as, much
because you're not twenty one at that.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
Point so are you saying it's good or?
Speaker 2 (28:20):
BAD i don't know.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
If it, is there. ISN'T i think.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
THERE'S i think YOU'RE i think you're more prone to
get in trouble in the world's your oyster after twenty, one.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Where you don't have to do.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Anything but if you've got the money, earlier then perhaps
you put yourself in a situation where you've gotten a
lot of that partying out of your system and you
can kind of grow up a little bit, earlier if
that makes.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
SENSE i guess it's a different animal because you, know
you're the big fish in, college you know WHAT i,
Mean like you're you're the big fish in college and
so and you got a little bit of. Money if
you're that guy on campus now you're throwing all the
parties you, do you, know you're doing whatever you really want.
To but you get to the, league everybody has. Money
and SO i always say, this like in that aspect
of like to get in trouble with, things it does
(29:00):
help but in the mental aspect of coming into the
league with, money it messes kids up because the kind
of last you, know the.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Fact what he just said is really an example of
WHAT i was referring, to that they're kind of relaxed
from a from AN nfl coaches. Standpoint they're the guys
That i've talked, to not not, universally but more than
just a couple have said there are some of these
young guys that that now you have to be even
more intentional and careful with respect to to drafting and
(29:33):
where you draft, them how much money you invest in,
them because they've already they've already got money in the, bank,
Right and so you saying, this, this, this and, this
if you don't have the right kind of let's say
character in a, player that player may say WHAT i,
mean all, right so IF i don't make it, HERE
(29:54):
i Got i've got four million dollars in the. Bank
that's never rarely ever happened before where the league it
was your source of income in most cases for the
very first time in your life when you were twenty
one years. Old, well now that's not the. Case so
IT'S i think for some players and certainly for coaches
(30:17):
coaching it has changed sort of how they view the,
world and the.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
League doesn't like. That And i'm, broken, hungary ready to
go hit the ground, running not coming out here having
more money than the coaches that are coaching.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
THEM i feel LIKE i should be throwing flannel on.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
It, well you should definitely should be hyping up all all.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
That we just had a text eight oh. Six is
there a flannel? Conference Where's? Ryan he's got a few days.
Speaker 5 (30:43):
Off, yeah He's matthews tour for the next. Week ryan's
out for the, week but he will be. Back we
don't know.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Here this Is Dave Ryan bes speaking Of Bruce.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
Brown do you think he resigns with The nuggets in
free agency next? WEEK i Know Orlando franks people was
recruiting him hard when he was down there for his
graduation In.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
MIAMI i don't.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Know everything has a, price you, know, everything everything has a.
Price you. Know it's it's at this time of the,
year right after the. Finals it's easy to, be, oh
this would be a fit, here this would be a fit.
Here but if one side one's nine and one side
only wants to give you, four you're not going back
to that. Team so obviously whenever, first like SOMEBODY i, know, Right,
yeah it sounds Like Shelby harris was like SOMEBODY i.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
KNOW i thought he would obviously make him a lot.
Speaker 3 (31:30):
Better is he the same guy that he was when
they had?
Speaker 2 (31:32):
HIM i don't have any. Idea that's he's been In
indiana And, toronto so it's been no primetime. Games nobody's
seen him since he, left you, Know, Denver and that's my.
Speaker 3 (31:41):
CONCERN i, mean like you couldn't fit in on that any,
roster like.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
The, well he was doing. Fine they just used him
as a trade.
Speaker 3 (31:47):
Piece, YEAH i think.
Speaker 4 (31:50):
THEY i think they, REALIZED i, mean no disrespect To.
Bruce they paid him too much money and so they
moved him trying to you, know sort of knew for
what they, were what they had and the. Roster from
a financial, STANDPOINT i, mean he's he's signed a deal
that he made over twenty million.
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Dollars, yeah that was a good.
Speaker 2 (32:08):
DEAL i mean it was like a three for, thirty
wasn't it something like? That?
Speaker 4 (32:11):
NO i thought he made twenty like twenty two million.
Speaker 2 (32:17):
Dollars i'll tell you right.
Speaker 4 (32:19):
NOW i was, like, no it definitely was not three for.
THIRTY i thought it was a three year. Deal THOUGH
i THOUGHT i didn't think it.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Was a three year. Deal it. Was actually it was
a two for forty.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Five two for forty. Five, okay there you, go twenty
twenty two million. Dollars SO i MEAN i think they
they came to the realization, like you, know he's a good,
player but we can't we can't sit hereneath this entire.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
Contract.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
YEAH I and you're right about The siakam. Thing and
it did make adyet a better you, know being able
to do. THAT I i that was just my because
it's a feel good. STORY i, mean make a Cowboy
bruce back To denver he. Was it was a feel
good story to bring him. Back i'm just, concerned like
the amount of money that he got paid to go
to and he's certainly not going to make that. Here
and is he the same caliber player that he was
(33:03):
when he was?
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Here what are you? Getting you know for?
Speaker 1 (33:05):
THAT i get to feel good component of, it but you,
know end of the, day it is a business. Too
when they were you, know this, offseason fans we're talking
About Von, miller you, know Bringing Von miller, back And i'm,
like you, know that'd feel great to Bring.
Speaker 3 (33:17):
Von back for the.
Speaker 1 (33:18):
Tour but the reality is last year he had more
snaps and fewer sacks Than Andrea. Tillman, like there's a
business aspect to, this and The broncos can't afford to
pay Von miller what Von miller would?
Speaker 2 (33:26):
Cost, well Von miller at this point in his, CAREER
i feel like it could be something, special like some
sort of, homecoming especially with the way that The broncos are.
Now no matter what the cost, is obviously you don't
want to overpay, him but it would be a time,
where you, know you would want to see a guy
like von come back and enjoy the successes of you,
(33:50):
know of The broncos obviously want, well, yeah farewell to,
her but who knows is it his last? Year is
it going to be a couple More because just being
a strictly pass, rusher you can do that for a couple.
Years you're not taking that much wear and tearing your.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Body here here's the, thing, though a what would it
cost b if you bring a guy like that? Back it's,
SOMEBODY i, mean he's he's eating into somebody's.
Speaker 1 (34:14):
Tap you, Know benito And cooper are gonna get, reps
so so who is It Dondre, tillman And Dondree tillman
was better per snap than Than miller was last.
Speaker 4 (34:25):
Year that's WHY i JUST i just don't don't see
that as a realistic. Possibility THE, nfl more so than
any of the other professional sports. Leagues they they don't
get sentimental too. MUCH i mean THE, nfl it's like
(34:45):
we loved, him he was the. ENVY i mean, no.
Speaker 2 (34:49):
Yeah they have a way of always the team is
always bigger than the, player you know WHAT i. Mean
so you don't really get that many farewell tours or
anything like. That but you, KNOW i wouldn't be surprised
if you see an injury camp there's somebody that if
if Von miller wouldn't be the number one guy on your.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
LIST i think YOU i think your answer unless you
can carve out a role as a strictly passed we
saw it Was Dwight, freeney do. It i've seeing a
couple of guys who have had that you, know that
ladder that that over he went.
Speaker 2 (35:14):
To seattle like. THAT i remember it was a forgettable,
year but.
Speaker 1 (35:19):
That's not Forget von maybe one hundred and seventy five
million over the course of his creaking cash over the
course of his endorsements and.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Stuff so my thing is that If vaughn decides to
come back here is more because he wants, to not
because of the.
Speaker 1 (35:30):
Paycheck, yeah AND i it would have to be on
a minimal. Deal Bro broncos dates some other news. Today
we'll get to that when we come. Back you, guys
listen To Kway sports right here on kW
