Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've had Rockies Baseball coming up six o'clock and then
the Rockies have a day game tomorrow. Both games against
the Los Angeles Dodgers nine to seven last night as
the Dodgers hang on and beat the Rockies. We've been
talking about a lot of things. Talk a little bit
about the Broncos. We've had Allan roach on, We've had
(00:20):
guppy that are known as g man on recently. And
Mark Stout is a guy that is so well known
in this market. Mark did sidelines right here on KOA,
sidelines on the Bronco games for a number of years.
Did KVP I for ever and now you see him
(00:43):
all the time working on the Rockies baseball telecast. And
Statter joins us. We were just talking about some of
the things we've done, you know, in our past, and
some of our broadcasting stories. And I was trying to remember,
I know that you did sidelines. I'm trying to remember
exactly your first year was it ninety six?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
First year, Dave was ninety five, ninety five July of
ninety five, in fact, on that course field now getting
ready to say TV pregame, and I've said on my
KOA one hundred things Larry Zimmer and Roberin Berneluci was
the program director. Then they wanted me to come here,
and you know, they're trying to get me to move
here from Buffalo yep. And Zim brought me to a
Rockies game and it was sold out and I'm like,
(01:28):
this is this is unbelieve. This is the big league.
You know, Buffalo doesn't have that. So that's when I
made the call. So I've been here thirty years, coming
up next monkey, may I know?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
And that's funny. I was, I'll be thirty years.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
When I started KPPI, it was November of ninety five,
so we came there right about the same time.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (01:46):
And then Bob Richards bring you out here from Buffalo
because that's where he was from the program director.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Yeah, Bob was integral in that. He he talked to
him and the KOA people into having me on Kylorado's
morning news, being part of the Bronco's back ass. But
his plan all along was the movie to f M
and eventually I got to be p I in ninety
nine to the Locker Room Show, which originally was me
d mac Darren mckithyria in Buffalo and Craig Carton's car.
Speaker 8 (02:17):
Was supposed to be I had completely forgotten about.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Wow, it was brief. We started in like October that
year and he was gone by the next February. And
there were some other people we we even thought about
Mike Lodish coming in and being part of the show
because I was we blowed from from at Denver obviously,
and then Willy Bee just came came in and did
take it like mornings and nights I don't know, for
(02:42):
like two three, four years and it kind of took
off from there. But yeah, thirty years crazy and I
where do you want me to start with the Broncos.
I got a few stories that I'll never forget.
Speaker 8 (02:53):
Let's have them, Let's have the let's go.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
So so what I you know, I'm I'm moving from
Buffalo to Denver and the Bills had just gone to
four Super Bowls, so I thought I was, you know,
big man on campus, that kind of thing. So Will Wolford,
funny offensive lineman for the Bills, good player, went to Vanderbilt. Basically, Dave,
you'll know these names, Hope, Rick, you you guys all,
(03:17):
might you remember Kent.
Speaker 8 (03:18):
Hold the center yep, yep, so Kent.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
And Will kind of ran that. It kind of ran
the show in Buffalo in terms of just, you know,
keeping things at the order, you know how the old
lineman work. So Will says to me, Hey, you're moving
to to Denver. When you first go to camp, the
first thing you got to do is you got to
go up to Gary Zimmerman and you got to make
(03:43):
sure you start up a conversation with him and you
tell him I said hello, and you talk his year off.
How do you think that went?
Speaker 8 (03:52):
Yeah? What was what was this reaction?
Speaker 1 (03:55):
At least as much as you can tell us on
live radio, Well, it.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Was definitely a WTF look, But it was basically a
grunt of like, oh and that's the end of my
my conversation. It was one and I called Will and
I'm like, you know, Will, you got me good one
because like I and you know, the old line thing
here was a little bit different. Remember getting Lepsis in
(04:21):
trouble because Matt was sort of a remember when he
was tight end O Line Yetta and Tommy Nalen who
I love, and then Naylan got on to be the
radio on the radio, which I never got. He was
like you got less fined, and I'm like, oh.
Speaker 5 (04:35):
Tommy was rigid on that. They just they got those
guys all the time. They wouldn't talk to us at all, and.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Now they're great.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
So Tim smile took me up to greet me. That's
an a smile, yes, going up to camp. And I
and the Bills used to train at Perdonia State, which
is like a sunny New York school, which is on
the way to Cleveland, Dave, you know, down down the lake,
so I was kind of used to that kind of stuff.
But I'll never forget, you know. I was doing whatever
all you guys do, some interviews for the pregames and
(05:04):
whatever we needed to do. I mean, I went from
doing the Jim Kelly Show to the John Elway Show
and koa crazy. But I wanted to interview here's the
name out of the past because he was a good
player and I think he was playing middle linebacker. You'll
remember Dave Wyman. Sure, this is ninety five, my first year,
his last year, and I said, Dave, I want to
do an interview. That it's okay, Well, you know, wait
(05:25):
for me. After practice. I waited at Douve Valley probably
for three hours. It was probably five or six at night.
I'm sitting there out front and he comes out and
looks at me like you gotta be kidding, Like, hey,
this is this is my new job, Like I need
to prove myself and I need this for this weekend.
(05:45):
I think we're team was probably playing Seattle, so he
had played Seattle for such a long time, so I'll
never forget that. And in that ninety five season was
Mike's first year, right Shanahea. So that went five hundred
and it was kind of like back and forth that season,
under five hundred win a game, go on up, and
(06:06):
I remember that they the last game of the season
was Christmas eves. You guys have done Christmas games, right, Yep.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
We have ya.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
It's a different but it's a different feeling, you know
what I mean. It's it's sort of like this joyous
kind of cool yeah, right, and and as the media,
it's just it just feels a little bit different than
than a normal So going to Oakland, you know that
Mike Shanahan wants to beat the Raiders, and I'll never
forget that game. It was a close game. You may
(06:34):
remember Dave Terrell Davis did not play because of a migraine.
Aaron Craber ran for like one hundred some yards. They
won that game, and I remember flying home to Denver
on that on that on that charter with the team.
It's just saying this team is gonna be good next
year because they went five hundred eight and eight and
(06:57):
I'm thinking, yep, this is uh this, this team as
the makings of something big. And then you know that
that run started the next season.
Speaker 8 (07:06):
Yeah, no, no question about that.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Uh, Mark, Before I let you go, So you've you've done,
You've done the Rocky telecasts for how long?
Speaker 8 (07:15):
And how did how did that? How did that start
for you?
Speaker 2 (07:19):
So essentially this is my eighteenth season. I left for
one year to go do Orange Blue seven sixty with
Ray Crockett. When I was around you guys, Yeah, that
was twenty eighteen. Uh this started, I let vp. I
was sort of disintegrating.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
That's a nice way to put it.
Speaker 8 (07:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
In two thousand and seven, I left without a job,
and Keith Blyer remember redheaded Keith Lyar, sideliner reporter. Sure,
so Keith had left, And now, looking back, I think
about how baseball season so long he had left, They
needed somebody they needed somebody since like the beginning of May,
and I got called in. I had done a little
bit of TV. I did at soccer. I played soccer
(08:01):
D three in college for one year, so that was fun,
but I had never really done TV. Just radio interview
with the guy by the name of Benji Case. He
liked me, he liked my enthusiasm, he liked Metallica, and
I could talk to him about Metallica and I I
auditioned to the All Star Break with Roger Bailey in
the studio. That was a star and I was on
(08:22):
TV that.
Speaker 8 (08:22):
Friday, and here are eighteen years later.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Yeah, I was coached well in baseball. Just one other,
one other Broncos story the snow game in Buffalo when
everybody had to get get and then we had yeah. Yes,
the team gets there late, probably was like midnight and
you know, only flight that got out of.
Speaker 8 (08:45):
The I s that's correct.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
South Plantonio thinks I'm Jason Elam for siying for anything
to get on TV and load like do it, do it,
And I'm like, Mike, I gotta have some you know,
I cannot do that. But he wanted to interview me,
thinking I was Jason Now Jason's way bigger than me. Butious, man,
I just I remember all the you know, Fire and
(09:09):
Chamberlain names like that, Keith Burns, Juan Bonhead, Ron Jeff
Lewis wanted my vest from one of the Super Bowls.
You guys have come back from flights. We were coming
back from Miami from winning the Super Bowl and there
was a thunderstorm. You may remember this day. I swear
it hit the plane. Eddie Back was next to me asleep,
and he went like ten feet in the air. He remember,
(09:32):
I'm like, I think we just got hit by lighting.
We were taking off the next morning. Those were the
day Romo Romo was, you know Romanowski. There was one
and only Romo one. You know it was. It was
just it was that those were some years, man, and
the team was great. I went from you know, going
to the Super Bowl and the Bills to two with
(09:53):
the Broncos. It was crazy.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
The difference was the Broncos won, right right, just that
or we got a run. But appreciate the time. Man
always good to catch up, all right, Mark that's marched out.
You see him tonight on Rocky Baseball, right, So yeah,
he started ninety five.
Speaker 7 (10:14):
We are getting so many great texts on the text
line five six six nine zero about our various guests
and the and the stories and the laughs today on
the show.
Speaker 8 (10:24):
We appreciate the feedback.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Yeah, it's been great.
Speaker 8 (10:27):
Yeah, roy Bean's coming on.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Yeah, I think she's a Grant's call.
Speaker 8 (10:32):
You talked about wearing her underwork.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
She does not know that. I said, your name came
up on the show. No surprise at you.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
Your name came up on the show.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
I said your name came up.
Speaker 5 (10:40):
We could you have a couple of minutes, and she said, sure,
I have bad service, but I'm ready rest.
Speaker 8 (10:46):
Oh, she she's ready.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Now, Well, before she comes on, I'm going to tell
her that we were talking about her and you we
rick what did you ask?
Speaker 8 (10:57):
Oh, Susie brought it up. She brought well me up.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Well I brought m up because she's a woman that
goes on underwear.
Speaker 8 (11:03):
Well, put her on and I'll set it up.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
Okay, But Susie brought it up with the topic. No,
I brought Romey up because you asked if there was
a woman on a trip, and I see Rome all
the time because she travels, if you'd wear her underwear?
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Okay, Well, now you just ruined it.
Speaker 8 (11:17):
Well, no, I didn't. I just want to make sure
she knew before we brought her on.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Hi Roamy Rom, Hi guys, Okay, so we're not talking.
Speaker 7 (11:27):
Sports came up in the first hour, and here's how
it came up. So I threw out on like a
social dilemma question. Say you're on a road trip, and
I threw this out to Susie and day, So Susie's on.
Speaker 8 (11:39):
A road trip.
Speaker 7 (11:40):
She forgot to bring underwear and it's a two or
three day trip. I said, would you go to somebody
that's either on the plane or on the trip, And
then Susie goes, you mean like Romy. I said, sure, Romy,
And would you ask Romy if you could borrow a
pair of her underwear?
Speaker 8 (11:55):
And she said yes, and she would wear long.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
As they were clean.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
I said yeah, But then I said, Romy is smaller
than me, so I probably have a hard time.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
But she said she would be willing to wear your underwear.
Would you be willing to loader.
Speaker 8 (12:10):
A pair.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
For Susie anything? There's nothing that Susie can't have, albeit
it must.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Be a clean pair.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
I feel like, yeah, you roll that way, but I
would go clean pair anything.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
And I would do the same for you, Romie, what
would you do?
Speaker 5 (12:29):
And that was the question is because Dave and Rick
would not wear another pair of man's clean.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Or women's underwear.
Speaker 8 (12:38):
I know clean. We passed like say Dave, no not
saying let's say Mike.
Speaker 7 (12:46):
Cliffs said Dave could wear a pair of his underwear said,
that's a hard.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Pass for god, it doesn't feel like a person at
type of Yeah.
Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, like especially if we're talking about like work road trips,
like I feel like women we got better options like
we do.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Gets a little touch and go with you guys.
Speaker 5 (13:09):
Yeah, No, have seen other women that are in the
media in our in our city where there we had
a lot of So what are we good looking women?
Speaker 8 (13:18):
What are we saying? What about the men?
Speaker 5 (13:20):
Are that the men are not good looking? There's just
there's some shadier character.
Speaker 1 (13:23):
But I still no matter. And Mike's attractive, But I
pass on Mike's George.
Speaker 8 (13:27):
It's a hard time. It's a hard hard, no question.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Yeah, I trust where Susie's underwear has been more than Mike.
Speaker 2 (13:34):
That's all.
Speaker 1 (13:34):
But there you go, because we know Mike, let me
just just say that, you know you've been a good
sport coming on before before we let you go, what
what are your expectations for Broncos the Broncos season, Because
we were talking about how excited we are, but we
(13:55):
also want to temper uh that enthusiasm with a little
bit of of realistic thought as well.
Speaker 8 (14:00):
What are you thinking about this season?
Speaker 4 (14:03):
Yeah, and my expectations are high. I think the big
asterisk perhaps is as long as these free agent signings
can all stay healthy, because all of them do come
of course with injury history Hufanga, green Law, Evan Ingram.
So if those guys can stay healthy, I still think
this defense has the chance to be one of the
tops in the league. And Bonix has so many more
(14:25):
tools around him and bo and year two, we have
no reason at this point to accept to expect any
sort of a sophomore slump. So my expectations are high
as long as everybody stays healthy. And I think the
interesting thing, guys that I'm really looking at is how
did they handle those expectations. It's always been, you know,
last year it was that nobody believes us and that
(14:46):
can really fuel the team. So how does this team
handle that? Going into it, people are all expecting them
to do really well, I think that's going to be fascinating.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
I agree.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
I said that too when you were bringing up Rick
was bringing up was it Pro Football? They gave him
such a higher I'm like, man, sometimes it's dangerous.
Speaker 7 (15:01):
They were the power ranking that I saw, they had
the Broncos number ten, and then Pro Football Focused just
named Sean Payton the second best coach in the NFL,
Andy Reid number one. So around the league, they are
really really hot on the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 4 (15:19):
You know, and they should be, and you know, I imagine
I don't really think this team's going to struggle with
the expectations. Like Sean Payton says it all the time,
the team should be more confident than he is in
this team, and he's really confident in this team. So
I think they have a really strong level of confidence
that Sean Payton has brought in. So I don't expect
them to struggle with it. I am curious to just
see how they manage it and see how different that
(15:41):
is for them this year, when you know people aren't
overlooking him anymore.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Rollmie, before we let you go, your You're as plugged
into the University of Colorado as anybody.
Speaker 8 (15:50):
I think in our business in this market.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
And I was asked this today by a friend and honestly,
I don't know, and you might not know either, But
is I mean, is there anything going on with Coach
Prime that you would either know of or if you
know of, could share in terms of is everything like
gonna be okay with him moving forward this season?
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (16:16):
You know, I wish I knew more. You know, I've
spoken to him a couple of times and he's just said,
you know, he's feeling well. So I really don't have
a ton of intel, but it is hopefully we will
get a little more light on it and kind of
get a bigger understanding of what's going on. But he's
told me he's feeling well.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
But that's really kind of all I've got unfortunately.
Speaker 7 (16:36):
Yeah, Yeah, that's okay, Yeah, that's absolutely Before you go,
just one more question from me. Next two day road trip,
bring three pairs of underweb.
Speaker 8 (16:46):
Case.
Speaker 4 (16:47):
Okay, let me tell you as somebody who lost their
luggage by Southwest on the on the Christmas game when
hacking got fired and I had to borrow a curling
iron from Sydney who is no longer with the Broncos.
Girl always looking out for girls.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Yeah, you had to borrow some all kinds of stuff
and you still looked amazing.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
She had like something from everywhere. Yeah, Wow, she was impressive.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
Listen, if that ever happens to us, If that ever
happens to Rick or me, we are absolutely screwed.
Speaker 8 (17:17):
Radio.
Speaker 2 (17:18):
Tell them.
Speaker 8 (17:21):
Appreciate you coming on. Thanks you bet.
Speaker 1 (17:25):
That's romy Bean from CB FROMBS four.
Speaker 6 (17:29):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
Gosh, all these stations have changed and she's done.
Speaker 8 (17:35):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 1 (17:36):
And I've told her this, and now that she's off
the air, I can say it.
Speaker 8 (17:40):
She's done such a good job.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
And I mean she works in a male dominated field
and yet she has earned I mean, much like you.
I think she's earned a ton of credibility. I think,
I think, and that can I think sometimes be tricky
from a female's but you guys, and since she was
just done Rome in particular, I just think she's done
(18:07):
really really well.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Yeah, she's worked very hard.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
She is.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
I mean when I said she's scrappy, I mean she's
she's very resourceful. And I mean we used to when
you and I were doing the show on seven sixty.
She would come in at nights and learn everything she
needed to, you know, and it wasn't you know. She
was a cheerleader. She has that part of her life.
She has other parts of her life. And then she
really took this so seriously and just blossomed. And I'm
not surprised where she is right now because she's worked
(18:31):
so hard and deserves it.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
No, she's hard worker. Yeah, yeah, I've told her the
same thing. Before you go into the break. I have
a surprise gift.
Speaker 8 (18:38):
Another underwear thing. No surprise gift for both of you.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Oh wow.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
We have of course every year at least one game
in California, So I got something for both you and Dave.
Speaker 8 (18:49):
Is this a puka shell sort of thing? Yeah? It?
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Oh wows, you got shells?
Speaker 7 (18:57):
Now we all have matching puka shells for when we
play the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
We need to wear this is it?
Speaker 7 (19:05):
Yeah, it's where it's say necklace.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Oh my gosh, necklar. You're reading the V S C O.
Speaker 8 (19:15):
Beach.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
You're reading the Amazon label.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
No choker, I don't hopefully it fits you.
Speaker 3 (19:23):
Yeah, there's actually the extra chain in here.
Speaker 8 (19:25):
Where do you take it? You put it around your neck?
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Choker is but they never.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
Sorry, I've never worn a Choker and I told a
jur producer before the show was going to do no,
but he said, make sure you get a picture of
Dave with it on.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
He wants to scratch the California.
Speaker 8 (19:46):
Not really. I wouldn't sure. I wouldn't sleep in it,
but well.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
I'm not going to sleep in it, but just to cool.
Speaker 8 (19:50):
Yeah, that's that's California.
Speaker 5 (19:52):
It doesn't it barely fits around Dave's forehead.
Speaker 8 (19:57):
Well, I don't know if that's going to fit you
neck with this on it just extra chain in there.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
I got it's on my neck right now.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Looks great on you. I couldn't really get this around
you know.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
It doesn't go over your head. There's a class on
there for a freaking your head.
Speaker 8 (20:16):
I'll work on this during the break.
Speaker 3 (20:17):
Five have to do everything.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
We've had kind of an opportunity today just to We
talked to Alan Roach, who did sidelines for fifteen or
sixteen seasons.
Speaker 8 (20:29):
With the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
We talked to Mark Stout, who came from Buffalo and
then did sideline work in the Broncos broadcasts from ninety five.
Talked to g Man of course worked with Lewis and
flor Wax, and I broke in radio with him as
my producer. Can't believe I've survived this long. Our next
guest is the guy that really put all of this
(20:54):
stuff together back.
Speaker 8 (20:56):
In the day.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
And then he moved to Los Angeles and became the
head of Fox Sports and is still, for some reason,
living in Los Angeles. I'm not sure what the hell
he's doing out there. But Don Martin joins us Skeeter.
It's it's Dave Logan, Rick Lewis and Susie Worgen.
Speaker 8 (21:16):
How are you?
Speaker 6 (21:17):
Oh my god. I mean, I'm sitting here right now
on the same airwaves as three Hall of Fames guys.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
I'm not worthy.
Speaker 6 (21:27):
This is unbelievable. Number one and number two, it's it's legend,
not Logan. That's a story that needs to be told
off the air. Yes, that he had to start out
with Skeeter.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
So I had I want to let.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
Everybody understand something real quick. Dave and I worked to
get work together way before.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
He went to Kowa.
Speaker 8 (21:49):
Okay, that's right.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
It started KMVP together. He and g Mann and I
did the Afternoon are the Midday Report they called it
in that time, and then he was on.
Speaker 2 (21:57):
With Joe and Earth.
Speaker 6 (21:59):
Then we went over to another station and started something
else with IRV, and then Dave came and he went
over to Kowa. But but there was a trip that
I took with Dave. We went to New Orleans and
there was a hotel strike, so the NFL couldn't put
us in the nice hotels. So we're no nice hotels,
so they assigned all the media the hotels. So they
put us in the super Dome Inn across the track
(22:22):
from the from the Superdome, so we go in. There
are no locks on doors. There are sticks, you know,
holding the patio doors closed, and the swimming pool has
like Bob war sencer. Yes, so Dave's room is next
to mine. And and I'm not supposed to say it
this way, and back in the day you could say it.
(22:44):
You're not supposed to now.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
But he screamed like a girl.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
The door, the connecting door didn't have a knob on it,
so I pushed it open, and he's sitting there on
the bed and his he just pulled his foot out.
Speaker 8 (22:59):
Of his hue.
Speaker 6 (23:00):
We had a cock road that is gone. Oh my god,
I'm going to tell you, guys, unbelievable to hear that
you guys are doing. This is amazing. I was thinking
about this today. We lived a lifetime in less than
ten years.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, yeah, we really did, really really did.
Speaker 6 (23:22):
While Lois and Flora Wax were blowing up mornings, we
were blowing up afternoons. I mean, there was nothing like
the sports at that time because everything came to Denver.
We had good things and bad Okay, we had super
Bowls and the parades. When all of a sudden they're saying,
oh my god, there's one point one million people that
lived in Denver. One point blank showed up for the
(23:44):
first parade as waves up, bomb the steps up there,
and we're out in the little truck making sure it
sounds right to you know, Columbine, Oklahoma city bombing trials
were done there, the blizzards, the nine to eleven. He
did it all. Yeah, this radio station in a great,
(24:05):
top notch way.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
So I wanted to ask you because you you were
the guy don really put the the old sports zoo together.
Was me and Scott Scott Hastings, and you believe, I
mean people that don't know you. You were the one
that that sat down with Susie and said, listen, I
think you can be a big part of that show.
And you're the one that gave her the nickname the
sports Chick.
Speaker 3 (24:27):
Do you remember how it happened? Don?
Speaker 6 (24:29):
I did, and and I got beaten for it.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
Though Susan was upstairs.
Speaker 6 (24:41):
On kbp I. We we I did you do the
football game before you joined KOA? No?
Speaker 3 (24:48):
So I called.
Speaker 5 (24:50):
I called and left a message on your voicemail one
day and said, hey, I, you know, I worked down
at KBP I and I'd like to come cover some
Rockies games like postgame. I just wanted to get doing
some sports stuff. And you didn't call me back. And
I walked upstairs and saw you, and You're like, oh girl,
we're gonna put you on the zoo.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
And I was like, whoa, wait what?
Speaker 6 (25:08):
And we called her Susie the Sports Yeah did the updates?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Ye, she rocked it.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
And then sus as only people that know Susie okay
will ever understand. Okay, she's got bigger wave moosts than
most dudes. She she's in there going toe to toe
with these two clowns. And I mean these guys, I mean,
I'm I'm surprised we didn't get fired many Yeah, Larsons vain.
(25:37):
I saw it come out of his forehead.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
We had some shoes.
Speaker 6 (25:43):
Whether it was because of Jeff Row, whether it was
because of whateff. Okay, so then this thing's going on
and on, and then finally Susie comes to me and
she says, Nope, not doing it anymore. So what are
you talking about the sports that's condescending sports check? And
I said okay. She goes, I want to go with
Susie Wharton and then the rest was history. So she
(26:06):
fikes that way back then. Wow, look at her today. Yeah,
I mean, now, look what you've done girl. You have
always been a self starter.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
You have always and may thank you, thank you.
Speaker 5 (26:21):
We did it together because I just had justin and
I came back from attorney leaving. I was like, you know,
probably the sports chick thing, and so then we we
kind of decided it together.
Speaker 7 (26:30):
Don you mentioned Scott Hastings before the sports do Uh?
We got Scott Hastings started on the Lewis and Floor
weak show.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
He had just gotten traded here for somebody's success.
Speaker 8 (26:43):
I mean, how much credit do you need to know?
Speaker 6 (26:46):
Hey, I think there's some selective memory going up.
Speaker 8 (26:49):
Okay, So.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
I had a sports writer friend in Detroit say, Hey,
this guy Scott Hastings. He doesn't play much, but he's
got a really good personality. You guys should get him
on the show. And so we did. We got Scottie
on the show on the morning show Lewis and Floor Wax,
and he wasn't playing much at all. We came up
with this bit where we won't score until Hastings scores
(27:12):
in the game for real, and it is yeah, six weeks.
Speaker 8 (27:19):
We went six weeks before he scored a point. And
it got to the point, guys.
Speaker 7 (27:24):
Where Hastings put our name on the back of his shoes,
Lewis on one Floor Wax on the other, and they
would they would would he He got one chance to
shoot a free throw one game and we're like, okay,
this is going to be it, and so they the
camera pans up, they get a close up shot of
our name on his shoes and then he misses the
throw for real. But we had so much fun with
(27:47):
Scott early on, and then obviously he became a great
broadcaster afterwards. But uh, that's how we got to going.
Speaker 6 (27:54):
He was always met for this and he and Dave.
He was Dave's yang a Dave. Dave's jin today jang Okay,
it was gotten Dave, and and it worked very well
because because Hastings would go out in places that Gloves
was never comfortable. And that's why we started the whole
Patrick Watkins thing, and we started the jeth Row thing and.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Which for those who don't know, you could work today.
Speaker 6 (28:21):
It couldn't you know, the last fifteen years. But it's
coming back now.
Speaker 2 (28:25):
But we win the job.
Speaker 6 (28:29):
Oh. We went into places guys that the radio wasn't
allowed to go if you were on the FM band. Okay,
you guys were doing that stuff up there with Kathy
Lee and whatnot, but we weren't allowed to undam band.
We're supposed to be the adults.
Speaker 8 (28:44):
And we were not show. It was a great show.
Speaker 6 (28:49):
Well, and and you know what, and it grew from
there and and it's still going well. But I mean,
you go back and look at it, the things that happened,
I mean the Super Bowl runs, the parades, the Raider
Raider team.
Speaker 3 (29:00):
Shirts that was huge, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (29:04):
The nine to eleven T shirts and and you know,
and all of a sudden, you know, I get told upstairs, no, yeah,
them are going to go their way and we're saying,
well we got something with King sooper as Well, yeah,
but we're gonna turn on lights to the hotel. Well,
we're still doing a T shirt and Don how says, well,
that's the ugliest T shirt I've ever seen. It's too
too gotdi. Well, we sold a million dollars worth of
them because Logan Haystings. If they got behind it, it
(29:28):
always worked. And I'm going to tell you guys something.
Everybody in Kaway management wasn't always on board. I remember
those days, their nose, but we were getting away with
Douter was one of them. Yeah, but damn, what a
(29:49):
what a run? What a run? And what a station.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
Shoot.
Speaker 6 (29:52):
We had five consecutive Stations of the Year awards in
a row. I mean it was it was insane.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
It was insane, Logs.
Speaker 8 (30:00):
I'm telling you, no, listen.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
I it brings back great memories for me. So, uh,
we we got a run because we still have bills
to pay. But just wanted to touch base with you
man and and tell you how much we appreciate you,
because really, uh, you're the one to put that thing together.
Speaker 8 (30:17):
We had to make it work, but.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Be a huge start and got you started with us
and it was just a twelve year magical run. So
be well, tell Robin we we send her love and
we'll we'll check you in soon.
Speaker 6 (30:28):
Hey all love and respect and the world guys go
Rockies tonight. Unfortunately they're probably not gonna win, but.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Got in the world.
Speaker 8 (30:37):
Appreciate you, don Thank you Don.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
That is Don Martin again after he after he left
this market, went out and uh and basically ran Fox Sports.
He was he was the guy know that the national
ran the National. Yeah, I mean he lives in LA
for sure. So we appreciate Donnie. Been a fun show.
Rocky's Uh, Dodgers coming up tonight from Coursfield and Jerry
(31:00):
will have all the action and then of course a
afternoon game tomorrow with the same two teams. Yeah, it's
been a great guys.
Speaker 8 (31:10):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (31:11):
This is good medicine, This is good for your radio soul,
this is how this is how radio used to be. Yeah,
and it's just great to be able to do it
again with two people.
Speaker 8 (31:22):
That I love. It's been amazing family.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
Yeah, no doubt about that. From the seven, one, nine, three, five, eight,
love you three together while the brain Trust is together.
Just a little bit about the Broncos. What do you
guys think? Like I said earlier, I think they'll be
better this year. The only concern I have is at
that inside linebacker position because of injury injuries. Alex Singleton
(31:50):
coming back from an ACL.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
It got married by the way, green Yeah yeah.
Speaker 7 (31:54):
Right, yeah, Green Law a guy that's had a hard
time stay unhealthy. If those two guys stay healthy, I
think they probably have the best defense in the league.
I think bow Nix is going to be better this year.
He has more weapons, and I feel like there'll be
a better team than they were last year. They could
possibly win twelve games.
Speaker 3 (32:14):
What do you think now he's on the tape.
Speaker 8 (32:15):
Well, I talked myself into twelve. I justly in an hour.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
I am always the ultimate optimist, and I look at
things a lot from not only you know pieces they
brought in, but just the whole chemistry, the whole thing,
how everybody's jelling together.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
And I still just see a lot of the same
core guys.
Speaker 5 (32:32):
You know, I'm huge, and I get jaded because I
like my guys that will always talk to me win
or lose. You know, the Jonathan Cooper is the Benitos,
those those guys that nothing's gone to their head yet
they're still so focused on what they need to do.
I'll never forget walking out of Buffalo at that playoff
game and I'm walking out with Coop and he's and
he's like, I just I know what I need to
do now.
Speaker 3 (32:52):
He's like, I got to lift more. I mean, my
legs need to get stronger.
Speaker 5 (32:54):
I need to Like we're literally leaving that playoff game
and he's thinking already what he needs to do in
the offseason because he knows what it needs to do
to get there again.
Speaker 3 (33:02):
And it was the cool I was like, Wow, that's cool.
Speaker 8 (33:05):
Yeah. I think.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
I think this is the year that I mean, realistically,
I think Broncos fans can say this is the year
we get Kansas City. I think the fact that the
Broncos played them so close at Arrowhead, I mean, and
lost in such dramatic fashion where you get a thirty
(33:32):
five yard field goal, and in the NFL, a thirty
five yard field goal has to be made ninety whatever
eight percent of the time. I mean, it's it's almost
a no brainer, but until it isn't and it was blocked.
But I think I think this year, I think the
Broncos going to camp and they they feel like they've
got the goods and enough of the goods that they
(33:56):
can dethrone the Chiefs in the AFC West. And to me,
that's the primary goal, because if you can find a
way to win the West, then you host a playoff game. Well,
I mean in power field of Male High would be
absolutely out of their minds to get back into the
playoffs and have a home playoff game. And then we've
(34:17):
seen teams, We've seen sixth seeds get hot in the
playoffs and maneuver their way through the playoffs and ultimately
win a super Bowl. So you got to get in,
and I think the best chance to get in, and
Sean Payton mentioned this after the week after the Buffalo
lost last year. You know they want to have a
home playoff game. The way to do that is to
(34:37):
win your division. So I'm optimistic. I think the offense
has to take another step forward as they did last year.
I think they'll be even better this year with bow Nicks.
I think he's got more weapons. I like the running
backs that have been added. I love the tied end
Evan Ingram. They have to stay healthy, Rick, as you said,
but yeah, man, I'm excited about it. I'm really fired up.
Speaker 8 (35:00):
The show to Broncos do this, Hey, listen to you too?
Is great. Great to see you, great to spend some
time with you. Three hours just flew by. That is
going to do it for KO Sports.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
Thanks to Millennial Grant as always doing a great, great
job for Rick Lewis and Susie Warrigen. I'm Dave Logan.
Rockies baseball coming up. We'll see you tomorrow after the
Rockies Dodgers game on KOA chickstick DeLong Ball
