Speaker 1 (00:14):
Tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Practice will be underway again for the second day of
acclamation period starting at ten am. And then of course
Friday is the first official day of training camp where
the fans are going to be out there, which.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Is gonna be a lot of fun and small contingent.
They're in the bleachers. Yeah. And then just a little
programming note.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
On Saturday morning nine am, you'll want to be listening
to KOA as Benjamin Albright and I will be broadcasting
live from training camp poll out there in the tents
watching practice, and we'll tell you everything we've seen.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
One of us is Batman, one of this is Robin.
We're not telling who's who.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
I think two bad bands Okay, yeah, I did that
for you again.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Five six sixth nine zero.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
If you want to interact with us one text here
on the Bengals, we're just talking about the mess that
they find themselves in. Why are the Bengals messing contracts
up so bad after what they did with Chasin Higgins?
Or is it because of those two contracts they're trying
to claw back as much as they can. Just seems
weird to be fine with paying out those two huge
contracts and then bulk at the two others. I'm actually
(01:12):
kind of in agreement with you on that. It's all
the above.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
The Bengals are a notoriously cheap organization to begin with.
They're a cash poor organization in the NFL. As a
matter of fact, they did not have the cash to
be able to pay Joe Burrow when they signed him
to that first big deal. They didn't have enough money
to put the cash in escrow when it was due
in two weeks. They had to, for the first time
in their franchise's history, sell the naming rights to their
(01:37):
stadium just to pony up enough cash. Because when you
get guaranteed money, anybody that's guaranteed in contract has to
go into escrow two to three weeks after and be
locked into ESCO two to three weeks after you've signed that.
You got a little grace period to get in there.
And the Bengals just didn't have a cash That's part
of it. Part of it is they just they are
an organization that just I don't want to say that
it's too much nepotism, but sort of like there's just
(02:00):
so INSULARU they just don't have a grasp on what's
going on in the rest of the league. One of
the smallest scouting departments in the NFL, uh and they're
just they're notoriously nickel and dime, and they do their
own thing and swear that it's the right way to
do things. And you know, we see how many I mean,
they've been to one Super Bowl recently, so that's one
of those things that I mean, they come up with
(02:20):
ways to justify what they're doing, but in reality, I mean,
they're gonna be the best team to score forty points
a game and still have a six win season, And.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
It just feels like the one side of the ball
that they want to not mess with as much as
they're messing with right now is the one that they are.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, hey, you know the two edge rushers that you
were gonna you're gonna use this year, not neither one
of them is there right now because you know, you
can't just and the Shamar Stewart what is so easy?
Changed three words in that contract and it mirrors almost
everything else.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
And then then that's done. And I think his there's
like two contracts that are not done Queen Shaw Juckets.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Yeah, Will Johnson's already signed, so quin Shawn who got
arrested and obviously for the best violence and the Browns
just push paws on that because they don't want him
under contract while they're trying to figure out you know,
figure that out. Uh, and then Smart was the only
drafted players who have not signed. Now that Will Johnson's
in the folding Arizona man.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Yeah, not great for the Bengals, who, of course on
the Broncos schedule. So we'll sort of see how that
all shakes out as it sits.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Right now, and of course everything's subject to change.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I would start kind of eyeballing that as potentially Trey
Hendrickson may not be there for that game.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Wow, just based on where they are.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
Trey Hendrickson was personally insult I will I will quote
here personally insulted.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
By the last two offers the Bengals sent.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
He flew to Florida. Yeah, he lives in Cincinnati. He
flew to Florida to get away from the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
That's right, and he said he's gonna keep working out.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
I saw the report, but it's like you've left Cincinnati
where you live and you flew to Florida because you're like,
don't he be around here?
Speaker 3 (03:44):
They sent two offers in a span of twenty four
hours that did not have any money guaranteed beyond.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
One year for the raining Zachbarrassing. Yeah, it was a
bad defense. It was a bad defensive performance. That wasn't
there was a ton of talent on that line, because
I am yeah, anyways, kind of ridiculous. Before we hear
from Dan Rolatsky, he's been very high on Bonnicks and
the Broncos up to this point. I want to give
a shout out to our high chair at Bailey, who
(04:09):
we've talked. We talked to out of the Combine when
we went out there in February, and we've had him
on our show on when I was doing Broncos Country tonight.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
He's a he's a Steelers fan.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
He covers the league, but he's like a Bills and
Steelers fan, right right, Mostly Steelers yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
So he he had tweeted out.
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Last year September third, when Schrager put his prediction out. Yep,
Peter Schrager with which which he was with Good Morning
Football at the time, put out his playoff prediction for
the AFC, and he had the Broncos as the sixth seed.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
And now, of course they ended up with the seventh seed.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
But Jared said, if the Broncos make the playoffs, I'll
get a gm FB tattooed on my body, Good Morning
Football tattooed on my body. And of course that tweet
blew up because it was around the time that a
lot of national media were taking shot to Bonix.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
They just did not bolave if you will.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
They didn't they didn't see a starting caliber quarterback, and
certainly not a quarterback that they thought was going to
take a team to the playoffs. If you remember, of
Pro Football Focus at the time had pinged the Broncos
as the thirty second ranked and again by the math,
it's dead last ranked roster.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
In the NFL.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
They're the worst roster now they're like sixth best according
to several sites. They're a top ten team across the
board for many people with power rankings, maybe top fifteen,
top fourteen, whatever point is. They're they're firmly in the
playoff mix, if not one of the better teams the AFC.
And it's funny how that's just one year removed when
they had a lot of the players, same players coming back.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
It's just a weird deal.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
But anyways, shout out to Jared Bailey who paid up,
paid up, He got his tattoo. He got a gm
FB tattoo on his thigh. Interesting choice, this big block lettering.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah, this isn't like the bold font. This is aerial bold.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Looks it like he did like some small tiny on
his heel. You'll never see this was if he wears
short enough shorts, you gotta see a GMFB tattoo. Which
is also semi ironic because they're getting ready. We hear
the NFL network getting we'd be bought by ESPN, and
who knows if they're going to keep that show.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
Probably not most of the people that were there.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
In fact, none of those guys that were there when
that when bet was made, or even there anymore.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
Well, Kyle is.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Kyle Brandt still loosely Philly who cares?
Speaker 4 (06:33):
That?
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Looks like I would say. Anyways, shout out to Jared
Bailey who got the bet. He paid off the bet,
he got his tattoo. You can go check that out
at Albright NFL, at Our Average Radio at j Bailey NFL.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
He tweeted that out just a little bit ago.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
All right, So danner lawski very high on the Broncos
and oh Nicks.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Here's what he said today on the Pat McFee show.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I think Denver is going to be absolutely awesome.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Still have their best.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Defense, are second or third best defense in football, and
I think bo Knicks will only improve. But their offensive
wanted to be top six, top seven in the league.
So I think if I had to pick two other
teams that I really believe, like deep down bull roster
didn't get there, it would be them, obviously, since he
with their defense his massive question marks. Their offense can
score with anyone. But the Chargers. I want to see
(07:21):
how good their weapons playing the outside. But those would
be two teams outside of those top three that I'm like, yeah,
watch them.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Denver's fun to think about, just because what bow Knicks
became at the end of the season, you know.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
And the way he is firing too. Yeah. Bo Nicks
is a fire.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
He got him and Sean Payton's interactions on the sidelines
last year were incredible. I really enjoyed. Sean Payton came
out and said he still got some Ferris buelllert him
and I didn't know what that meant. I did not
know what I've seen the movie. I did not one
hundred percent know what it meant. But I think what
he was trying to say is, yeah, he's still yeah,
we're still growing in this entire thing. Sean Payton loves
this dude. Yeah, and Sean Payton is a great ball coach.
(07:56):
So we just assume if Sean Payton and the quarterback
at along, they're gonna win.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
But that is a tough division. I mean it is
a tough division. I mean, I think everything he said
is there.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
I actually have Sean Payton talking about his relationship with
the quarterback head coach relationship. Our guy Eric Goobnast him
about that today. But yeah, I mean everything he said
there is factual. There's certainly things that can derail the plan.
I think we have a lot of optimism in Broncos
country right now about what the Broncos are going to
do this year. But it feels different than years past
(08:28):
because years past you saw the pitfalls like as they
were laid out.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
It's like, boy, you almost need the breaks to happen.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
We talk ourselves into the possibility of them being good
because we'd say, well, if they could avoid this, if
they could avoid this mistake, if they can be better
here than we're projecting, then things and if you squind
hard enough, maybe we can see a playoff team. I
don't even have to squid very hard to see a
playoff team here. It's more the opposite of like, okay,
I have to imagine the pitfalls. I have to imagine
(08:57):
how it doesn't work out according to plan.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Yeah, I mean on paper, the talent is there to
be a playoff team. Let's start with that. Now, this
is a brutal schedule this year. It really is. I
this is a tough schedule.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
You start off with two you think kind of gimme games,
and then from there it's just it's a tough schedule.
The way it's laid out, who you're playing where and
when and all that. Even the gimme games there aren't
quite as gimmy as you think. And then the division
is stronger you got Pete Carroll over there in you know,
in Las Vegas. That doesn't mean that the Raiders are
going to be a playoff team, but they're not going
to be a joke under Pete Carroll.
Speaker 1 (09:25):
I'll say that.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
You know, you've got a Chargers team that I really
have my eye on. I mean, if they can figure
out another receiver over there. I know, Mike Williams retired
and Quentin Johnson looks like he's catching the ball between
two frying pans. But Lad mcconkey's good, Ronda Gaston is good,
and if they get one of these free agent guys
they've been looking around at, whether that's bringing Keen Allen
back or Maury Cooper gave Davis, you know, they could
they could have something there, and that's that's one to
(09:48):
keep your eye. They've got a good defense, so that's
one to keep your eye on. Kansas City's tough, it's
a tough division, it's a tough schedule, and so you
could it's entirely possible that this Broncos team could be
better than they were last year and still have the
same record at the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
I mean think it's all fair.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
The one thing I'll push back on is I thought
last year's schedule was really tough too. I mean, you
think about even the start, right, Seattle's a ten win team.
Pittsburgh was a ten win team. I think they But
you had Justin Fields quarterback. In that team you had
you had, I mean those should have won that way
you had.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
The Seattle wasn't as good.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
You make all the context happens when the season goes,
but at the time when the schedule came out in.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
May, fairly favorable. Last year, I did not.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
I thought it was gonna be tough. But I'm saying
context of what it is. So you lost the first
two games with the rookie quarterback. Seattle tough place to
play up in Seattle. That was a ten that ended
up being a ten win team in a very good defense. Right,
Pittsburgh is an extremely good defense. You're right, justin Fields whatever,
I'm just saying. The point of it is, that's a
game you probably could have won. But the fact is
is that they were still a playoff team. Right Tampa
(10:48):
Bay won their division. There was a fun game. A
lot of people at the time in May thought New York.
The New York just were going to be back with
Aaron Rodgers that it ended up working out. But I'm
just saying at the time, I'm just saying, like a
lot of these conversations happened when they're paper. Right now,
you did lose both games to the Chargers. That's one
that you said you probably wanted to have one of those. Yeah,
you got to split this year. Yeah, and then even
coming out of their bye week, we thought Indianapolis was
(11:11):
gonna be better.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
The ultimately did.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Now they were playing all the way down to the stretch,
they actually had a chance to make the playoffs.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
They were Andy was a bros a decent team, but
there also was some breaks in there.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I mean, if Jonathan Taylor doesn't fumble that ball going
across the goal line, we might be talking about different
results in that game.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
I under staying on paper for me when we're getting
to this, I want to do the semantics thing, just
say on paper. We tend to look at these things
in a vacuum rather than the context of when they're
actually happening and what the team actually becomes right. You know,
we look at the Titans, for example, and I when
I was watching the Quarterback Series on Netflix, it was
a stark reminder Cincinnati losing to New England in Week one.
(11:44):
I mean, Cincinnati was supposed to be a bear last year,
always struggle early for whatever reason they do. But it
was one of those like you just had to have
that game, like you can't they cost them, you know,
they not having a game cost that. You got the
nine to eight, it wasn't enough. And losing to flip
in New England, who was a lot basically a lot
ofy team at the top.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
You know.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
So I'm just saying, like I am with you about
the start of the season, you should have the Titans
of the Colts game. But once again, you know, we
sort of project these things out so far ahead without
you know, the perfect example is Trey Hendrickson might not
be available with the Cincinnati game. That could be massive
for that game.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
And being honest here and being brutally honest, I think
they need to start three in all because I think
you're probably gonna lose that Philly game.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
You can win the Jets game, but then you come
back with no buye. Well, y'all Los Angeles in the
middle of that. So so you're talking about you're.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
Saying, when a Los Angeles. I think, well you need
to split with LA this year one way or the other. Yeah,
So that's three and one. They need to be a
gobblet up wins early because the back half of that,
once you get back off the buy I mean, excuse me,
back from London and after the Giants game that's casual
after that is not good. Like, it's not easy. Every
one of those is going to be a dog fight.
Hw they could win them. I'm not trying to discount that.
(12:56):
I'm just saying it's it's a tougher to me back
two thirds of the schedule than last year by a far,
far cry. So heard from Danie Lawski talking about the
quarterback head coach relationship.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Here's what Sean Payton had to say about that.
Speaker 6 (13:10):
I think oftentimes it's used in a way and sometimes
I said this, I think in the offseason, you know,
like this was the perfect fit. Who's not interested in
that player? You know, it almost discredits the athlete, but
it fits the narrative for those that had him ranked
(13:30):
where they So we're never going to get away from
our narratives, are we? You know we're going to hold
on to We were right with that narrative and so well,
that was the right fit. That's a great marriage, and
that explains any success in all success. But I think
maybe it applies more to a head coach that's maybe
more involved in one side of the ball or the other.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
I think that's an interesting point that it brings up,
because so much of our discussion about Bo Nickson, especially
the way he looked in his rookie year back half
it was about Sean May was was, hey, he is
this way because of Sean. It's the same thing we
say out there with San Francisco, right with Kyle Shanaan,
literally any quarterback that he ever coaches, we tend to say, well, gosh,
(14:11):
if Jimmy Garoppolo was somewhere else, right, it brought perty
was somewhere else.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
He saw Jimmy Garoppolo somewhere else, and it was terrible.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Sure, But a good play caller, a good coach, should
get the best out of their players. It felt to
me like his answer there was trying to prop up
Bonnick's independence of us. He was trying to protect his
playercause it would be good anywhere, right, which again is
not one hundred percent the case. I would not put
Bo Nicks in a North Turner offense, he would probably
(14:40):
not be that good. But bo is better than people
thought he was, and he was trying to speak to that.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
And good on you for protecting your player.
Speaker 3 (14:46):
I'm not going to knock sh On Payton for doing that,
even if what he said wasn't exactly true.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
It's he's trying to stand up for his guy deservedly,
and and Bonix is a good player. I mean, I
do think he had a shot and you've reported this
as well, that he had a shot going the first round,
even if the Broncos didn't take it at.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Twelve, Yes, he did have it. You don't go in
the first round.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
Sean McVay wanted, you know, like it was flirting with
that and sending him all that stuff, and that wasn't true.
But there were other teams that were interested in potentially
bringing him in. Now, they wouldn't have made him a
starter right away. They were trying to groom him. But yeah,
there were other teams that were.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Now, you don't teams don't just throw away first round picks,
right so to that point, so Sean is writing that
respect but again the optimism and sort of to take
it to another level has to include the play caller,
and so he might be a little dismissive of that point,
but I think it's a very valid one.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
At the same time, Yeah, I would agree with that.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I just like it's obvious to me what he's doing there,
and that's propping up his guy from the national marria
because he's he's specifically mentioning those narratives, right, So you know,
it's obvious what he's doing there and stand up for
his guy.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
And I like it when coaches do that.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
There are coaches that'll you know, they'll stand out there
and throw guys under the bus at times. But there's
one thing about Sean Payton, which and he will do that,
but he when.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
He stands up for guys, I definitely appreciate that.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
Here was Sean talking about bo Nick spending time with
Drew Brees and Tom House.
Speaker 6 (16:00):
Someone that works his tail off, wants to improve. You know,
the whole off season is planned out. You know, he's
gone and visited Breeze for four or five days and
that's Tom House in here, and there's there's a lot
that he wants to absorb in a in a fast
(16:21):
period of time. And that's a great thing for a
young player like that.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
You know, we're never just going to pick up from.
Speaker 6 (16:28):
Where we left off, but there's a lot of building
to do when we look at last year, and a
lot of positive things to look at.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
I mean, I'm a fan of that.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
I think it'll grab headlines, you know, spending four or
five days with Drew Brees and Tom House actually a
former baseball players.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
More about throwing the Helen Gas yeah type thing, but yeah,
I'll end up Sean.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I almost got the sense after he said that, like
moments later when he was brought up multiple times, because
you know, the mean he's gonna whoa, whoa, He's done time.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
With Drew Brees doing what what the orful.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Drew Brees picnic baskets and Jelly'stone Park obviously boo boo.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I'm sorry, bobo, my man.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
We we can't help it. We can't help but be
sort of glom onto that. But the fact is is
it's more about learn just information, right, I mean, I
think of your Bonix, it's just like picking his brain.
Sean talked about how we learn more about the you know,
the practice schedule of the week and how what what
Drew Brees focused on and if you watch that quarterback
series you saw, I mean it's very regiment for all
(17:28):
these guys, like they work tirelessly over the course of
the offseason and into the each week. They have to
have a very specific schedule to get ready for each game.
And so I think that just getting information on that
is is extremely important.
Speaker 3 (17:41):
I think there's the value of the desire to do
that and soak up whatever. But in the end, I'm
not sure how much it moves the needle. I mean,
Drew Locke spent time with Peyton Manning and that didn't
you know, that didn't move the needle for him. So
I I you know, when I look at that, I'm like, Okay,
good on them for doing the right things. But it
doesn't you know, it checks a box for me.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
It doesn't. It doesn't add you know.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
Actually it's a rare moment. But I agree with you,
it's a rare moment for me in the history of
as a broadcaster. How does it feel right for one
working with you? Well, I don't know about that, but
I say, just in a moment of you actually made
a very good points that carries a lot of weight
from me because when I heard it today. I'm like,
I know people are gonna run with that, and I'm
not saying it's not a good thing. It's definitely versus
(18:20):
him sitting on his couch playing PlayStation.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
I mean, I sure, but there's value in that. Yeah,
ask Kyler Murray. Yeah, how the.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Things worked out?
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Yeah, how things worked out so well?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Then?
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Yeah, I played a lot of the Fast Track to
get a real estate license. Yeah, I play.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
I played a lot of Madden over the summer. I
feel like I'm ready to go right here, I'm ready. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
I could really diagnose defenses on a computer game. Yeah,
but but it more checks a box.
Speaker 2 (18:46):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
It's just like the things that you do, the things
you should be doing, doing the things you're supposed to
do in the off season.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
You get the guys together, right, I think I think
like Montana or something like that.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
And I'm not putting anything into throwing, like with Russ
doing the rust you know thing, like I'm not putting
anything into and he did it again with Eliite Neighbors.
I'm not putting anything into that. But you're checking out
box you're supposed to be doing. Yeah, it's an important
thing real quick. You know, we talked about the Bengals,
maybe without a player that might be with a Broncos
player when that game comes.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Oh all right, a former Broncos player. Then let's get
to that when we come back on the other side.
Ryan Upwards in kall, dare you, sir, Toto Dave Matthews, Oh.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
That's not true. A whole lot of whole lot about
that nonsense. They had a lot of hits, totally had
more hits than Dave Matthews. By the way, muffind his
sons was that's what I heard. Several people went to
that show. They all said it was a great show,
unbelievable show. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
They they kind of went up is that Red Rocks
And they went up in the middle of the show.
They kind of had a stage with one microphone up there,
and they did wagon Wheel.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
The whole crowd win nuts. It was great. It was great.
It was great.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
They did some of those songs they did all They
played the theme from ted Lasso.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
They did not know.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I wondered if and I hate you so much for that,
but I thought they might play that just because it
would be fun. But now they played a lot of
the radio hits, which was a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
The crowd the greatest hit album. It was Expando Ballet.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Good pull a typical cafter that, all right, what player
former Bronco might the Broncos cee in Week four against
the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Cincinnati Bengals are bringing former Broncos tight end Noah Fant
in for a visit tomorrow. The expectation is that he
would sign and be the backup for my Gieske battling
with Drew Sample for that.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
Job, that's a pretty good pick up, honestly.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
I mean, I could make an argument for Noah fan here,
but I think probably by the money and the role,
especially now that Evan Ingram probably doesn't make a lot
of sense.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
I just think that it's a position that you continue
to add depth.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
To ye And I remember when I tweeted that out
that I'd bring him back, A lot of people were like,
you would just signed up An Ingram, the guy that
doesn't block all that grade?
Speaker 1 (21:05):
Why would you want to have two of those guys?
Speaker 2 (21:06):
And for me, it's just like, Hey, I think it's
okay to have some multiplicity at some positions.
Speaker 1 (21:11):
I just don't think that was ever on their their
radar as far as that goes.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
What I will say is the Bengals love to have
those kind of tight end though Kazaki kind of is
that guy. They love guys that they can split his
off the line wise and almost used as oversized receivers
and no offense does kind of fit that. Now, Gaseeki
is a little bit better vertically enup the seam, whereas
Fant needs to be coming across the formation with the
numbers back to the quarterback. But that would make a
dangerous offense even a little bit more dangerous.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Yeah, like he does the heavy slots, does he? I'm
not familiar with that term. What is? What is that?
What are you referring to? Well, it's five o'clock sware,
So I would wait for you to bring down and
I just like that.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
What is could you describe what a by the way
id apropos with nothing? Just speaking of heavy Marvin Harrison
Junior is up to two hundred and twenty pounds. Really
talked to somebody yesterday. He came in for his physical
weight in at two twentycked up to two not not sloppy, Okay,
locked up to twenty.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
You got to include that. He's need to clarify it.
I was like, are we going full David Boston here,
because you're I feel like sloppy two twenty.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Yeah, No, we're not. They're not doing Kelvin Benjamin. We're
doing David Boston here. That's what I'm trying. And if
you get that joke, congratulations. I do get that joke.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
And I remember Kelvin Benjamin, Kevin Buffageman before we're like,
what is what's wrong with you?
Speaker 3 (22:24):
Got up to like two sixty? I'm converting a receiver. Bro,
you wait, two sixty?
Speaker 1 (22:29):
That was bad? I dude, love the Golden Corral five.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Six six nine zero. So a couple of things we
have Broncos Country tonight come up here. At the top
of the hour. We talked a little about uh Bonix
visiting with Drew Brees and Tom House, and I thought
Sean kind of put it perfectly with Tom House. He said, Hey,
you know a lot of things that we're going to
see with Tom and him meeting with him. Really you
won't see a direct effect. It's more about the processes
(22:55):
of how he's going to train and how he's going
to you know, just sort of stay healthy at the position.
So I thought that was some kind of important thing
is against a baseball guy. Yeah, more than anything. A
couple of thoughts from today. Like I said, it was
great to see the guys all healthy out there, but
the edge rushers it still looks like a very deep group.
(23:15):
This is something that maybe to be pointed out because
it's a reminder for myself. It's a reminder, I think
for any of the fans that are gonna be going
out for training camp practices, the defense will probably be
ahead of the offense. It doesn't mean the offense is
going to be bad this year. Today, in the limited
work that we did get to see, the defense was ahead.
And so that's just more of a point that it's
(23:37):
going to be tough sledding for this Broncos offense in
practices going up against this very very good and deep defense.
That's just something that you got to remind yourself of.
And it's gonna be hard for the hot take people
out there that go to one practice when they see that,
they're gonna say, well, gosh, this offense is just not
very good or bo Nix is regressing. And I'm saying
(23:58):
this to some people like the guy sitting next to
me in the studio. Now you'll go to more one practice.
But you tend to take your shots of bon Nicks
early on, and i'mous say, maybe you should shot you should,
you know, maybe stay the course a little bit and
then watch that thing develop.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
All I did was give honest analysis of what happened
last year, and I was one hundred percent correct.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
You were the only one tweeting out, the only one
who was correct.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Well, the rest of you were salivating, and then those
first three games were brutal.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Narcis says, what uh huh yeah, the uh by the way,
I went to say, because you were talking about to
House and I went to tell a story earlier after that.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
Uh Tom House, you know what his claimed the famous
aside from the biomechanics and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (24:36):
Uh, it's oh, you know, actually Sean told the story.
But you can go intell about the ball. Hank Aarrett, Yeah,
he was a guy in the bullpit.
Speaker 3 (24:44):
He caught hand Aaron's record setting seven hundred and fifteenth
home run and then Bill Bucker was begging for it.
He spread it back out there to you know, to
go give it to Hank caarreed himself because they were teammates.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
And the only payment he got was a TV. A
local store donated a TV. That's all he got for it. Yeah,
that sound good to get them as record ball back.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Yeah, it's a good little story.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
But yeah, I mean to the point though, the defense,
the defense looks really good. The defense rule looks excellent.
Defense tends to be ahead of the offense for most
teams at the start of training camp, especially.
Speaker 1 (25:14):
If it's a good defense.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, there's given take like the first couple of days,
and then you should see the offense past the defense
by about midway, and then the defense should catch back
up by about the time the season starts.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I'm fascinated to see how Sean Payton reacts to that,
because typically offensive minded coaches, like we saw with Vic Fangioe,
anytime the defense had a bad day.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
He was a curmudgeon. He was mostly curmergion all the time,
but he.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
Was especially especially a curmudgeon on those practice days of
training camp when the offense would happen to have a
fleeting good day and by the very next day we
went back to status quos. The defense absolutely decimated them. Well,
I think more than anything, you just root for.
Speaker 1 (25:59):
The and take right.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
You root for moments where the offense gets their wins,
where they have a bit of a swagger to them,
where they feel after that.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I'm not sure the coaching staff does. I think it's
pretty personal when they're side of the ball. Oh no,
for sure, No, no, for sure.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
Sure.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
I'm just saying that the defense is really that talented
and it's only going to make the offense better for it.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
I hate that iron sharpens iron cliche. I hate it,
but it's kind of the truth in this particular one. Yeah,
maybe we'll call the defense the wetstone, but you know,
it's uh.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Like if the Broncos offense can hold their own, and
of course you get to the later days of training
camp and everybody knows everybody's tells and tendencies, right, But
if the Broncos offense can find some footing against this
defense when they get to the start of the season,
of course, Tennessee is maybe not going to be a
juggernaut tough team, but if they get to I mean,
even the Indianapolis Colts, the Chargers, Angles, so on and
(26:50):
so forth, if you can hold your footing and hold
your own against this defense, then I think you're going
to feel like it's a little bit easier sledding, hopefully
against some of those.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Those defense iron shopings ions.
Speaker 3 (27:01):
I hate that, No, yeah, I mean that's the thing
you love as a competitor.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
You want that.
Speaker 3 (27:07):
You want to go against the tough defense and practice
every day so that it.
Speaker 1 (27:11):
Makes it easier when you get into game reps.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
You know, you play the toughest guys, then you got
a little bit easier task when you get out there,
makes it makes you, you know, the game slow down
that much more. And I think that was a boon
to the development of Bonis, you know last year at
accelerating that process a little bit. Something on the text
line point Eddie Lacy, Oh yeah, Michael the buffet.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
Turner and he went the buffet. Oh boy, yeah, there was.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
There's a few of them over they've gotten that had
some weight weight control stuff over the years.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
That's tough.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
I mean, but Harrison's coming out. I'm telling you he's
a jacked two twenty. This is not Kevin Benjamin Eddie
Lacy's offices. But I know you're really.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
High on the Cardinals, as you tend to be.
Speaker 3 (27:50):
Well, I didn't say they were going to win the
division like this year. I think they will challenge.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
For the division. Okay, it's a very good division. It
is a very good division. Don't talk about the NFC
West enough. I don't think that.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
I don't think seek's going to be very good. I
think the Niners gonna take a step back. And I
think it's a two horse race between the Rams and
the Cardinals for the the NFC West this year.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Forty nine ers not back. I don't think so. I
think they're gonna take step backwards.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
That's so funny. All the national pundits are are predicting
the other way. It's sort of the sling shot of last.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
I said Washington was the team to watch out for
last year. But you know I'm not gonna let you
have that. I'm sorry, how are you not gonna let me?
Speaker 3 (28:28):
I very distinctly said, watch out Washington. Don't be sleeping
on Washington could be a double digit win team, But
you're just.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
A dan quinn honk. But it hasn't even know how
do you spell banda? How do you have coach bags
on that staff? And I root for my.
Speaker 3 (28:43):
Guys, but I also give a honest you know, I'm
not gonna sit there and pump them up and say
I believe something that they can't do, something they can't do.
I will with a lot of you people that were
telling me that dan Quinn couldn't coach can eat my
You know what, what do you you people?
Speaker 1 (28:54):
Do you mean? You people?
Speaker 2 (28:56):
I'm just saying that you have a vested interest and
a French there.
Speaker 1 (29:00):
I hope that they win.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
I root for them, but when I come to predictions,
I have to throw that out the window and see
what I you know, see what I see.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Yeah, we got Broncos Country tonight coming up at the
top of the hour. It'll be Benjamin all Bright, Nick
Fergus and Steve Attwater Studio. It's gonna be a fun
hour of not talking about the Broncos. Five six six Nights,
Zeros or koa Commas Very Health text line.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Can't wait for that. That'll be great Rockies.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
Of course we talked about earlier, really cool stuff. Back
to back series wins. They got the Orioles starting on
Friday night. We have a full show tomorrow. It'll be
Dave Logan back or LANDA. Franklin will be with us.
So tomorrow the acclamation period, the second day of acclamation period,
imagine it'll be another sort of short practice. They got
this slow ramp up thing that's gonna be all the
(29:49):
way up until Friday, and then that's when you know,
full on training camp happens. But I think the one
thing that I'm hoping to see tomorrow is just, you know,
continue fluidity where we can of the offense. I mean
I thought that, you know, again Bonicks, much like we
reported over the course of OTAs and Mandatory MANI Camp,
Bonix has done a really good job of sort of
(30:10):
evening things out and speeding up his process. It doesn't
seem as labored, and even today, in the short amount
of time that we got to see him, it seemed
like they got kind of in and out of things
pretty efficiently.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
As a sharp juxtaposition, I saw some reports out of
Chicago today were or no, was it was Chicago with
Kaylen Williams.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
No, there's there was some report out there that was
talking about the homework that that Ben Johnson gave him. People, yeah,
saw that being weird about it. I'm like, yeah, this
is just what he told him, the standards were, what
he met. This isn't weird.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I'm trying to think maybe it wasn't that it was it.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Was something New York and Jackson Dart and he looks
all that what it is? He looks laughably. Wilson, by
the way, will be the starter. He will be the
starter of the New York Giants. I've been trying to
you know, I know zax Seekers has a has a
weird hatred of Russell Wilson, but uh, you better be ready,
you know, giants country, let's grow there whatever.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
I don't know how to. I don't know what the
spiel is there. Oh my god, did not just say that? Okay,
jazz country, let's V five. I don't really know what to.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Somebody you did say this is a record number of
dad jokes for this time slot.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
I think they missed typed. I think they've met bad jokes.
It's a little bit of both. It's how we do
things
