Speaker 1 (00:00):
Whoo, all right, here we go number three, as we
are alive for Broncos Park, power by Common Spirit and
of course kaoea training campus powered by Chevron, committed to
our local communities and safely delivering affordable, reliable energy that
powers Colorado forward. We're watching a little seven on seven
here in the high red zone and that was a
(00:21):
Kyries rowing in the corner of the end zone, laying
out for a pass from Sam Ellinger. So hey, man,
trying to compete for spots, It's gonna be tough, especially
in that wide receiver room, but that was nice.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
To see, Yeah, it was.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
It was great for him to track the ball out
of the air, know where he is in the end zone,
and have enough presence of mind to kind of get
that knee down because, as they say, one knee is
like two feet and sometimes when you are a guy that's
on the bubble, you have to now start to stack
bricks once again and start to show coaches that you
(00:54):
are a reliable red zone threat.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Got to do it, man, And you know, we've been
talking about this coming into training camp. The top six
are kind of spoken for. So you're Kyries rowing, if
you're Jre Jeawan Newan Newton. Sorry if you're Joaquin Davis,
Oh you just sad it again?
Speaker 2 (01:12):
Just got another catch?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
How about that Kyrie is rowing, putting on a show
in the opposite corner of the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
The one thing you could appreciate about.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Kyrie's rowing, and he's got a chance to work a
little bit of power turn and kick off return.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I think that that could be a practice squad spot
for him.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Of course, you're not taking Marvin Mims off those positions
just yet. But again, as Marvin mims role maybe grows
a bit, I don't know many you maybe you start.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
To think about putting somebody else back there.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
We were just detailing earlier how dangerous that specific position is.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I'm not gonna subscribe that. No, no, no, you missed
any of that. But you know the reason why I
say that, Ryan, is because the idea is that you
want to put the best players on the field. If
Mims continues to grow as wide receiver as you know,
he is explosive. That's one of the that he ended
up coming and being drafted here because his ability on
special team.
Speaker 4 (02:04):
You don't want to take a guy like that off
the field.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
You may try to decrease the amount of times that
he's on in that special team situation. But that's a
guy that you know automatically can flip the field right
away for your offense. So watching Rowan make these plays
to me once again, I know it's in the back
of his mind. He knows what the wide receiver realm
looks like. He's playing for a practice squad, and that's
(02:28):
kind of wild to think because every time you come
out you want to compete for a starting position. But
it's one of those things of knowing this position that
you are being placed in, but not really settling that
in that role. But you got to find a way
to stick with the team. Get on the roster, that's
the idea. Get on the roster first and we'll worry
(02:49):
about everything else afterwards.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, or make it to the practice squad. So roster,
I mean, everybody's aiming for the fifty three. But listen,
we six wide receive are done. Like with the exception
of an injury happening, nobody is beating out Courtland Sutton,
Pat Bryant, Devin Vley, Marvin Mims, uh Frince Sherfield, and
(03:15):
Troy Franklin.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Like nobody's beating out that six.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Well wait wait, wait, So the idea it's done, well,
I'm not gonna say.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
I'm not gonna say.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
It's done, it's done, because if I'm a scout in
with the Broncos organization, I'm not going to say, well,
this is our six and we're done. No, no, no, I
want to see which of these guys that no one's
thinking about that's going to push those guys. I mean,
when you think about what Coach Payton said you no yesterday,
he was kind of noncamental in validating anything that we
(03:47):
saw from Troy Franklin that might open a spot because
they're not sure, they don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:53):
I mean, he didn't have a fantastic season.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
It's on Troy to come out here and take the position,
but it's also on Rowin and all those other guys say,
you know what, I see a crack in the dam
and I'm going to open it wide open. Then when
I'm gonna walk right through it. So I'm not gonna
say that all six are just kind of saying and done.
If that's the case, the rest of those guys might
as well go and get their bags and go home.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
You can say one thing but we can all know
the truth. I'm just telling you you can say that. Organizationally,
you will say that to these guys. I mean, you
want them all to compete.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
You want them all out.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Here with their mind focused on an opportunity to make
the fifty three. I would never ever tell players to
take camp off or practices off.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I want to continue to put that carrot out there.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
I think we in the media side of things, the
fans can have that conversation of like, hey man, unless
this guy is undeniable, and simultaneously you see such a
dramatic drop off, And honestly, I'm trying to even imagine
who that would be from. It would probably have to
be from Troy Franklin. Really, because Pat Bryant, you just
drafted here, you signed Trent Sherfield. He's one of your
(04:58):
special team's aces. Corland sunn is assuming he's gonna be
on the roster, He's going to be, said Devon Bailey's
obviously said, Marvin Misses obviously.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Said, so that's more My point is here, it's just
the numbers.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
And I know Sean Payton says, don't do the count
too early, but we can also be realistic about these
kinds of things, and that's more what this is.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
It is a realism thing.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
But you certainly want these guys to compete, and you
also wanted to compete in preseason because guess what, the
film is going to be out there for other teams
to take a look at you as well.
Speaker 3 (05:25):
And whether that's the one thing that guys who are
low on a tone pole they have to really think about.
I mean, I'm fighting for a lot of these guys.
They're fighting for their football careers. I mean, some guys
get cut here, they don't latch on with another team.
So to me, I'm looking at those guys who just
listed who are pissiled in right now because everything is
(05:46):
a pistol. It's not in pen as their starter. I mean,
there's a chance that one of these young guys once
you get to a preseason game, once you get to
these competitive in a squad scrimmages, and you start to
stand out. To me, now you can make them starry
second guessing things, right, make them second guess what their
(06:07):
makeup of this roster would actually look like.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
That interference.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
On who.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
The fact that you had asked that aady no, I.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Mean he was great ball placing me at the ball
be place outside for the receiver to haul in the past.
But the d B did not. He did not disrupt
on Bryant any movement.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Of the wide receiver. There was no pull and no
tongue of the jersey, no turning of the show safe.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, I saw him do the hand motion.
Speaker 4 (06:37):
Let me help you out and come plead, there you go.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
Every every dB does that motion when they think that
they did it right. That doesn't mean that we can't
hear what the objective I.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Am I have been objective. There was no holding, no target.
If so, you would immediately have said that was passing conference,
but you didn't. Now you bring up something that is
a pet peeve tomorrow. When a guy when a DB's
in position, even if he had no play going the
ball and the ball was dropped, he's waving incomplete that
you didn't do a damn thing right. He dropped the ball.
(07:11):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Okay, we're all the same pitch on that. Yeah, it
sounds to be crazy. It's that, and it's the doing that.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
Motion when you're trailing by like three or four scorers, like,
come on, man, y'all losing you've given up forty fifty
points today.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
As as a coach and a former player, I hate that. Yeah,
don't do that. When you make your play, yes, go ahead,
but Bille part Sales will say that's not even necessary.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Act like you made it play before.
Speaker 1 (07:38):
That's a good pressure there from Jonah Ellis, Jonah Allis
and Leavel Bailey combining on a pressure there that sort
of killed out.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
They're running some I think they're starting from the twenty five.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
I mean, it's hard to gauge from where we're sitting here,
but I think it's from the twenty five first team offense.
What wasn't great, wasn't sharp. Defense kind of got the
wins there. We just talked about that play sort of
the front corner of the end zone where Bonick scrambled out,
tried to hit Pat Bryan was unable to complete the bass,
and of course Riley Moss did the incomplete wave off
(08:11):
and then after that really nothing else. There was an
incompletion targeting de von Vley. Now we're the second team
out here, and yeah, Jonah Elis just blew that thing
up right away with with George.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
Stidham, Well you can tell you know where the team
is in installation because they're they're repeating the same installation
they did in Oca's and mini camp, and they're going
to do it again once they get to next week
when the pants because they're trying to build, you know,
that retention, seeing what guys care hold that information. And
what we saw earlier was the low red zone. Right
(08:44):
now they're at the twenty coming in and that's a
high red zone, and you can see that there's a
different variety of plays and certain guys that you want
to focus on depending on where you are out in
the field, especially the red zone, and this is where
you make your want is where you're making money as
a quarterback. Can you move the ball a little third down?
Can you convert inside the red zone? So this is
(09:06):
an area of the field that the Broncos would definitely
have to get better because they weren't a lot of
third and loan situations last year. And I could tell
you as big as that play sheet that Sean Payton.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Has, you don't have a lot of third and loan plays.
Speaker 3 (09:20):
You don't. So this is why they don't rely on
their run game. And hopefully amon ingram all laded it
up to pick up those first downs.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
You really put on the sweat.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
I just wanted to go back to it for you
because it because I know when we started, when we
started the show, you were talking, Oh, the guys are
out there, you know, you know, beats the sweat coming down.
They work his way. Yeah, I just.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
Byron's asking me to make sure I introduce you Nick
Ferguson hanging out with me Ryan Edwards here on a
beautiful Saturday morning here on KAA, we're live from Broncos Park.
Power by Common Spirit for Broncos Training Camp. A nice
contested catch it there over in the middle by Michael Bandy.
Michael Bandy, I'll tell you what, man, every single year
he's out here working hard.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
But once again another example.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
As much as I like Michael Bandy, he sticks around,
he finds a way to be on the practice squad,
but he's probably still not gonna crack the fifty three.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
Well, you know what, the idea that he's back again,
that means that the team sees something in him, right,
there's some value there in his ability and uh he
reminds me of Wes Wilkin right watching him catching that
inside breaking breaking rounde. Great hands and way to tucket
and pull it in.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
But I would like to see him make this team.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
I would like to see what he can do in
a slot because he has that short area of quickness right,
he doesn't have that bird.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
He's not gonna outrun anyone.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
But at the same time, he's a great inside slot
route running.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
There's a lot of space there. So I hope he
gets a chance to make this team.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
It's gonna be it's gonna be tough and be talking
about the wide receivers, but could be another potential guy
for practice squad.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
On the Kway comspird, I'll text on five, six, six
and zero, Doug from NorCal says under Big Ryan's thinking, No,
we're not making that stick. Big Ryan's thinking Rod Smith
never makes the team.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
A completely different conversation, and I've.
Speaker 3 (11:11):
Why, why isn't the conversation.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
No, That's the thing is, this is the first time,
and I've been covering the team now for sixteen years,
the first time that I can remember, we've entered a
camp where where the six in my opinion, are already done,
and I think in a lot of pig Field's opinions,
it's already done. Most of the time we are laying
out scenarios where hey, the four top four are done,
and then there's some competition for five and six based
(11:34):
on special teams and based on maybe some guys that
you don't think you can sneak onto the practice squad
or other reasons. Right, So this isn't even like a
I'm saying this in definitis, because this is who I am.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
I'm saying this. This is a very unique season that we've.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
Entered where the Broncos have positioned themselves with six wide
receivers and usually most teams keep only six. They brought
in Trent Sherfield in the offseason, they drafted Pat Bryant's
and then they were tained everybody else.
Speaker 2 (12:01):
So that's why I'm having this conversation.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
You go back to any other seasons that I've covered
the Broncos, and most of the time I love talking
about the competition that we get to see from undrafted
players and otherwise that are here. And I'd love to
talk about a Kyries Rowan competing for the Michael Bandy
even going last year, I interviewed Michael Bandy after practice
and I talked about, Hey, what's your goal? You feel
like this is a year you can make the fifty three,
(12:24):
and he's like, damn right, I can. I one hundred
percent supported him because he was making plays every single
day out here. So to Doug's point, to your point, yeah,
what is that?
Speaker 3 (12:38):
Yeah? I mean what do you what do you? Yeah?
I mean what are you usher? What job? What do you? Yeah? Listen,
I agree with Doug because oh you don't, well, you'd.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Agree with him because he's taking a shot at me.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
No, I'm not. Do you think I'm net petty? How
many times I'm gonna tell you know, I haven't own
a v neck, but I'm not Benjamin all Bright, right,
and just for us to get that established, he's deep
as his view, showing all that taco meat on his chest.
But anyway, I think Doug has a point because when
Rod came into the Broncos organization at that time, he
(13:14):
wasn't assuring to make the team. He had to catch
a couple of breaks here and there and make plays
both in the game and in practice. So there is
a possibility that someone here can be that Rod Smith.
And I can tell you working in personnel that sometimes
you already have your mind made up, Like you said,
(13:34):
here's our six here are the other guys, and then
someone continues to show up, show up, show up, and
you're like, wait a minute, why is it that we're
not paying this guy as much attention? Because when you
look at the guy and you say, okay, well he's
on the tunes in the threes, so he's practiced against
the twos and the threes, so we can't really evaluate
(13:56):
that like he's playing against the ones, but they keep
showing up, I mean to red zone touchdowns, showing up.
When you continue to do that, coaches now say, you
know what, let's give him a run. Take him off
the third team, give him some run with the second team.
Let's see how he responds to that. Now, is he's
still putting up those same type of plays and that
same level of production. If so this, give him one
(14:18):
rep with the ones and see how he fits that out.
We may not leave him there. Well, let's just see
if he's ready for the big stage. That's how you
do it. That's how you sneak up on people. That's
how you become a rotsmith. That's how you become a
Nick Ferguson. You sneak up on people when they didn't
think that you were ready for prime time as possible.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
It's always in the infinite possibilities.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
And I know you and Anthony Rod a big multiverse
guys just like I am.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
Anything is possible, as Kevin Garnett would say. But the
fact is we.
Speaker 1 (14:50):
Are sitting here with the six already set. But they
have to perform. Listen, in all fairness to your argument
to Doug, they have to perform. If Troy Franklin enters
camp and assumes, right, assumes I'm good, he's going to
be out.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Here, the NFL does not work like that.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
No, it doesn't.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
And i'd say that about Devon Bele, I'd say about
that any of it.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
But the way we've seen them practice throughout the offseason
and even the first couple of days of camp, they
don't seem to be approaching it a La Paxton Lynch
style of I'm already the guy, I'm good.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
Well, once again, when I look at this depth chart,
there are guys who are etched into this depth chart
with penn other guys with pencil. So it's it's up
to you to determine how the coaches, as this process
of training camp goes along, how they move guys in
(15:44):
and out of certain positions, and when I was, when
I when I first started this league, and when I
was with the Jets, even when I came there from
the Jets with the Broncos. That's kind of how it was. Well,
we're going we're going to see what guy started to
elevate his level of play, and then we'll say we'll
throw some more on his plate.
Speaker 4 (16:02):
Let's mix and mix things up a little bit. Let's
let's put.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
Him, take him on the first team and put him
on the second team. Can he still be a leader?
Can he still compete against these guys who already deemed
better than him. That that's how your team, intany gets better.
And even if that guy doesn't make the team, he's
made the team better in the time that he was there.
And he's a he's.
Speaker 4 (16:21):
A high priority guy for the practice squad.
Speaker 5 (16:24):
The pea squeeze, o, God, did you just do that
pee squeeze?
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yes, of course I did. That's what we kind of
referred to ourselves. Is that what we well, yes, that's
what we we We you know, like most people say,
day no, no, no, no, you.
Speaker 1 (16:46):
Do know what he's dang you want we So when
you were a player, we you called him the pea
squeezy pee.
Speaker 3 (16:52):
Squeeze, Yes, practice squad baby oh Man.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
Would move past that quickly, Big Ryan comrade Edwards has
a nice ring to it. Nope, this one. I don't
totally disagree with what Ryan is saying about the receiver.
That said, it's not like we have Jefferson, Chase and
Nico Collins. If a guy shines, I think they have
a chance. Okay, do you see anything with tight end
Caleb Loner flashing? How are they bringing him along? Actually,
(17:21):
he's had some nice moments this offseason. Once again, pads
aren't on, we're not in the game. But he doesn't
look as raw as I expected him to. And I mean,
I'm couching this a little bit because we haven't really
got a chance to see him block. Really, we haven't
a chance to see him do all the things that
are required to be in the tight end. But when
(17:42):
he's running routes out there, I can see the appeal.
He's six foot seven, for crying out loud, and he glides.
He really does glide out there. He doesn't look like
a baby draft who's struggling to move. He looked like
a guy that when they send him out and route.
I have no idea what dv or linebacker is going
to be a to defend him.
Speaker 3 (18:00):
Well, when you are as tall as he is, you
hope that he has that advantage. Er he gives that appearance,
that's just like me and you trying to guard Nikola Jokic.
I mean, obviously, oh, he looks great against those smaller guns.
But once again, when the paths come on, can he
step it up? Can he be a great inline block
when they flex him out? Can he run the right routes?
(18:22):
Can he use his height in his lint and going
over defenders consistently? Those things are going to be real important.
Can he get in and out of his bricks? That's
the thing. I got a chance to watch him last
year when he was up and boulder playing for Utah,
and obviously his side and his lint gave him a
huge advantage. And that's one of the reasons why he's
(18:42):
here with the Broncos, because they want to be more
productive on third down, they want to be more productive
inside the red zone. So if he's so blessed, you know,
to make the scene, they're going to count on him
to be a big, big target. And when you look
at Evan Ingram, and Rick Lewis said himself, I mean
he's a he's a wide receiver playing tight end.
Speaker 4 (19:03):
I haven't really seen Evan Ingram really work out with
the tight end. It's almost like that him working out
with that.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Group slowing him down. He needs to work out with group,
with a group of guys that are on his level,
and that's why we're seeing so much with the wide receiver.
But I'm hoping loner kind of plays into the position
and the young kid gets some playing time this preseason
so we can see exactly what his kind of makeup
and his foundation is.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
For a moment on Evan Ingram, and I know that,
you know, listeners tuning in today might have thought we're
gonna have been all bright on. Hopefully we'll get to
have him on next Saturday. I hope he's feeling a
little bit better. He always talks about Evan Ingram is
a big slot, and of course that has become a
drinking game because he literally says it all the time
talking about Evan Ingram. But Evan Ingram, he actually talked
about how he wants to be a blocker. He wants
(19:48):
he wants to also be able to be effective in
the run game. Do you see that with Evan Ingram?
And the other part of that is Ben has talked
about him. He doesn't think Evan Ingram is going to
be a big red zone threat for this team.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
What I know exactly?
Speaker 1 (20:03):
What?
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Thank you?
Speaker 3 (20:04):
What is he drinking? All? Well?
Speaker 2 (20:07):
So I'd love you to spell those things if you can.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
You know, I don't know what Ben is sipping on.
Speaker 3 (20:15):
Maybe that whole drinking game, Big Slot kind of got
to him or whatever. But watching Evan Ingram, you go
back to his early days with the Giants, then you
look at his time with the Jaguars and looked at
how he was utilized and inside the red zone. To me,
that's where tight ends live. You're a big body guy,
You run up two yards, turn around, flash your hands
(20:35):
and your numbers. Throw it because now it's like posting
up a dB. Now if the dB wants to try
to play through your body, guess what. Now you spot
the ball on the half inch line and now you've
run it in. But Evan Ingram is going to be
a great red zone target. And once again, when you
start looking at the chemistry that he's developing with with
(20:56):
Bo Nicks, the conversations that they're having ball placement. What
do you want want me to place the ball When
we get into certain areas, all of those things are
going to come into play. And I go back to
a guy that I played with in Shannon Shark, Shannon Sharp.
I mean his forte wasn't being a big inline Mark
Bavarro blocking guy while he's driving guys off the ball.
(21:17):
His mentality was like, all I need to do is
get in a way for two seconds right body position.
It's almost like running like you are setting a pick
in basketball.
Speaker 4 (21:28):
That's all you have to do.
Speaker 3 (21:29):
Set a pick, give a quarterback time, create enough space
for the running back to get through. And then you
now started to build off of that because you run
that same route because you set it up and then
now the defender sets his feet. Now you run what
we call a zaroo where come you're going in and
then you whip back out And that's how you take
advantage of it. So I see Evan Ingram as definitely
being that guy. And there's no way that you can
(21:52):
tell me. And I would tell Ben if he was
sitting here right now, You're going to bring in a
guy with Evan Ingram's skill set and you are not
going to give him some red zone targets. There's no way.
Let me, let me make sure I calm down here.
I'm gonna say something, but there's no way that on
God's green earth, Sean Payton is not gonna use it.
If Sean Payton does it, man, I'm being like, dude,
(22:13):
what he's doing. Come on, man, you got him there
for a reason.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
And I know where he's coming from in his argument
because he's saying what he has historically done in the
league over the first eight seasons of his career. But
once again, this is a new team. It's right, and
the targets, I don't know, man. They did target tight
ends in the red zone last year, and that was
the first year with a new rookie quarterback and a
(22:39):
lot of new faces of the sides of things.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
So I guess, in my estimation, I think Evan Ingram might.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
Be number two on this team as far as red
zone targets, maybe even number one. I think I think
it's as we talk about things that are foresure or
that you can bank on, Like I'm trying to talk
about the wide receiver depth, and this is what I
think I could bank on I feel like that is
pretty wide open. But I would lean on the skill
set and the experience of Evan Ingram to be able
to do those kinds of things rather than say, well,
(23:06):
with the Giants in Jacksonville, he really wasn't that guy.
He was more of an in between twenties and move
the ball guy.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
I think he could be both.
Speaker 3 (23:12):
Why not, well he can and also too. Once again,
what we're projecting is the Broncos is gonna spend a
lot of time inside the red zone this season. And
what that means for me, hopefully we see this bow
not always in the shotgup. We want to see bow
on the center because if bo was on the center
inside the red zone.
Speaker 4 (23:31):
One, that means that you got there.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
Two that means that you're going to keep the defense
honest in the short area. And then you put Evan
Ingram inside and get him keep him inside the core.
You got to honor that because now he's a blocking
tight end and now he can slip and slide out
and through formations and just kind of sit down and
that's a quick touchdown.
Speaker 4 (23:50):
I mean, wait, once you get to the.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Five yard line and the low red Zoe. All it
is is basketball, just post up and a lot of
these wives was that the Broncos have our big basketball,
wide body type of guy. So I don't know what,
you know, Ben has been thinking about.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Maybe he's walking with those silken win.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Hals too much. I think that maybe is probably, but
I will I do see Evan ingram as being one
of those big red zone threats. The only way that
doesn't happen if opposing defense and say, you know what,
we're hip to the game. We're gonna take him away.
Now you got to go to Courland on those favor routes.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Well, I tell you what, and we're back to a team.
We just finished special teams. We're back to team portion here,
first team offense versus first team defense backed up against
your own goal line. So this is going to be
fascinating to watch. Of course, the ball is going to
come out fast, as we just saw immediately with Bonnicks
of the past two Marvin Mims. We are live for
Broncos Park Power by Common Spirit for today's practice. We're
(24:51):
on till noon, and again, if you missed any of
the portions of the show, we will podcast all of this,
including our interviews with Demani Leitch, Rick Lewis, Ryan ha
among several and after the fact, I'm going to chance
to interview Nick Bonito off the field for social media as.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Well as on demand, so make sure you check it
all out there.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Shout out to Anthony Rodd for doing a wonderful job
out here and helping us out. All right, we're gonna
take a very quick break. We'll come back with more
thoughts on today's practice.
Speaker 2 (25:17):
Nick Fergus and Ryan Edwards is a Kawa final moments
for honest.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
As we're going up till twelve o'clock and it'll be
about the end of today's practice as we're watching team
backed up against their own end zone.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
Nice completion there from what was that? That was number eight.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
That was Jared Sidham finding Marvin Mims on a crosser
and he was.
Speaker 2 (25:43):
Able to take it upfield. Nice placement of the ball.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
I tell you what, man again, you did never want
your starting quarterback to go down, and they certainly would
take a step back. But I do think Jared Siddam
and his awareness and knowledge of this system, Oh that's
interference flag.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
Come on, Chris, Chris Abrams, drain.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
What you're talking about draped all over our guy, your guy,
Kyrie Rowan.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
He got the way too early. Better, you know better.
You can't even say that with a straight face.
Speaker 3 (26:12):
It's like, man, let's try this exercise. Go pass interference
about that.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
For the straight By the way, you notice cat didn't
get up and do the wave, you wave it off
because he knew.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Yeah, you're not gonna do that in practice.
Speaker 5 (26:24):
Come on, man, Riley Boss did earlier because he no, no,
he made a play.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
No, he went like this, he made a play inside
the wind zone.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah he didn't. He didn't intention. I'm actually with you,
Riley Moss did not interfere. That was interference. That's all right, though, you.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
Know it pends on your perspective. What what what kind
of angle that you're looking from?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Yes, so, so the perspective of a dB, it's it's
always clean well from a from.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
A back joe standpoint, maybe clean line Joe's a little different.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Oh is that what it is?
Speaker 3 (26:52):
It's about perspective.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
It is about perspective. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
Anyways, nice play there from Stidham to Marvin Mims finding
him in space, and of course his speed, he would
have been able to take that a very long way
up the left sideline when the first team offense was
out there with bon Nick's a nice completion of Evan Ingram.
That's one of those things that I think that we're
gonna get to a point. And I know we talked
a lot about Eving Ingram, but a nice catch there
from trash Shirfield probably shouldn't overlook him either.
Speaker 2 (27:18):
But Evan Ingram is gonna.
Speaker 1 (27:20):
Be just such an automatic guy if you need a
few yards, if you need four or five yards. It
just feels like it's gonna be an easy button for
this offense.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Do you agree?
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Yeah, I mean, you know every offense wants to have
somewhat of an easy button. And one let's talk about
it two ways. A quarterback that you know can come
in if you start, a quarterback goes down and you
know you can keep the offense and rhythm. But also
you have depth at certain key position, skilled positions offensively
that you know those guys can come in and they
canna help you move and stick this trivia o kid man.
(27:53):
He continues to make plays, and I know he was
just viewed as a special teams guy, but I mean
he's the guy who continues to make plays and right there.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
Why didn't you call OPI what did you.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Call offensive passage?
Speaker 2 (28:07):
I was looking down all the time.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
I'm sorry, okay, it wasn't you know what this is?
Speaker 1 (28:11):
How officially he didn't straight his arm, Yes he did, No,
he really didn't.
Speaker 3 (28:15):
Wait a minute, how can you say he did straight
his arm when you say you were just looking down
the ball his head? No?
Speaker 2 (28:20):
No, no, you said the sign sign balls over his head.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
You said you were looking down so you didn't see
it that part.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
I saw the whole play once again.
Speaker 3 (28:28):
Now that we know that you are liar, Now we
got to strike everything from the record because not incredible witness.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
I saw the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Incredible witness.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
Plus Lucas Krall deserves the benefit of the downloads calls.
Speaker 2 (28:40):
You know that?
Speaker 3 (28:41):
Oh because because he got d boat yesterday? Is that?
And he got the ball sashed away from him?
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Damn?
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Get it to me.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
You give him a break for what?
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Wotan give him a break? He he is a tight
end who definitely excelled last year on nationally tight End Day.
So I was supposed to come in and training cam
and just give him a break.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
I'm just saying he's earned it. Hey, I'm kidding, kid.
Speaker 3 (29:04):
I've got there's nothing about this game about like a
kick kick cat bar, So we're not giving anyone to break.
Yeah right, No, catch the ball as we want you
to catch the ball. That's the nature and design of
what you do as a tight end. But that was
bona fide passing fence.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
OPI seeing from Mike Cliss moments ago that Drew Sanders
did get injured and was aided into the locker room
by two trainers. So I don't know what happened with
Drew Sanders, but we'll probably get an update on him
coming up after practice. I heard that not only coach
is going to speak, but I think bo Nix is
also going to speak, so we'll get some information on that.
Five six six nine zero fell a bit of a
(29:43):
lighthearted question. But with the Broncos finally paying their homegrown guys, now,
I've been planning on our guy Miners jersey next.
Speaker 2 (29:51):
But should I deal with his name or the belly?
Speaker 1 (29:56):
So go number seventy seven and just put the belly
you know what someone.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
Can actually do. I know we are a long ways
from Halloween, but I would love to see a fan
come in with the Quinn minus jersey, but retrofitted with
the pillow to simulate the belly. Yeah, that'd be great.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Yeah, I mean you got to, you know, pull it
up so that you can.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Yeah, I mean, of course, you know, expose the belly.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
You gotta do it, you have to do it.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
I always wonder, then I hope he sunscreens that. You know,
I don't want to like, I don't want to be
I don't.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Want to be weird. You know, you go tell like, hey,
did you sunscreen that?
Speaker 1 (30:27):
You know?
Speaker 2 (30:28):
But you know, melanoma and stuff. I mean, we don't
have awareness these things.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
So you think about that. I'm thinking about like farmers tan.
You know, with the guys having their jersey, you get
that dark color and the light color. And if you
have this jersey up, it's belly is all showing. So
its belly is going to tan a lot more than
the rest of as well.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Imagine that's just like.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Take off his shirt. You got to know, hall the top.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Because I know I'm the belly. This is what I do.
You know, Yes, but that.
Speaker 3 (30:57):
That the colour ration, just saying that I'm im men
look for him now, just see does he have his
belly out?
Speaker 2 (31:02):
He does during warm ups.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
I don't know if he does it during uh, during
actual practice, but during during warmups he usually has it out.
Speaker 3 (31:09):
You know what, that's gonna be one of those things.
I look throughout the camp as we look for storylines
and competition. Does Quinn Miners into prany camp with a
very tan stumber?
Speaker 2 (31:20):
It doesn't clear it might be out.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
I see I see his back and it's kind of
pulled up a little bit to the jersey.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
You see there's like a gap there. I think the
belly's out a little bit.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
I thought it was you know what is it guns out,
funds out with something like that.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
So for him, it's the belly.
Speaker 1 (31:37):
Yeah, I guess, I guess, But I mean to the
point of the texture.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Yeah, you know, Quinn Miners is a is. He's a guy.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
He's one of the pillars, right, He's a brick whatever
you want to call those guys. Once the game of
the Extension and even before that, I would have probably
put him in that category.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
But he is.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
He's a brick PS two obviously the quarterback with low
Nicks brick house, which yes, okay, he's a building block. Yes,
he's the one of the pillars of the team, Right,
he's a guy you're building around.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
Gara Bowles another one.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Foundation new piece. There you go, yes, So why won't
we see or will we see more of the offense
run behind him and getting him out to way you
have to?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
But you weren't.
Speaker 1 (32:19):
I don't know if you were a good enough running
attack last year.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
A and then B, I don't even know if you
knew what you wanted to be this year.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
What did you think about Quinn Minors comments the other
day about how they're changing their philosophical approach. We had
a Orlando Franklin on the show on KA Sports and
again you can find that all on demand on the
iHeartRadio app. But we had him on and I asked
him what that meant to him. He said, I think
we're going to be going to more zone. He's like,
last year it seemed like they didn't really know whether
they wanted to be power gap, but they wanted to
(32:46):
be zoned and they kind of switched and swapped at times.
He's like, I think that what he's describing there is
they're going to be running wide zone.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
Well see then that as I tried to tell Indivisions
when they criticized their running backs as.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
A reason why the running game never.
Speaker 3 (33:01):
Got on track. There's levels to this and if you
were constantly switching up from you know, zone to gap
scheme and you're not really sticking with one regularly and
really fine tune in that, it makes it difficult because
it's up in the air. You don't know right So
right now to hear him saying that, now we're talking
about a little more physicality and this is what this
(33:24):
team needs to do because last season they had no identity,
right they had no identity at all, and we didn't
know was are you passing team or your running team?
Physicality At the end of the day when you need
to play, what can you count on? What can you
lean on? You know? And that was an.
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Issue for the team last year.
Speaker 3 (33:45):
So thinking that this team will go through a certain
evolution in here in Cornlands talk about, you know, the
steps that they're trying to do to get them to
that point. To me, you need to be a more
physical team because when you look at the teams that
are on your schedule, you look at week three through
work week five. To me, that's gonna say a lot
about this Denver Broncos scene. Even though they go to London.
(34:06):
They play the New York Jets, and the Jets are
trying to figure out what they're doing offensively. But what
I know they Jets will always play great defense, and
with Aaron Gleam, my former teammate, being there, he's going
to have them playing on a whole different level. But
this offensive line, a lot of the pressure for me
is on them. Don't talk about it, be about it.
(34:26):
Can you hit someone in the mouth and do it
on a consistent basis when they know you're going to
run and you still driving guys and moving them off
the spots. That is the type of mentality that this
offensive line needs to have. But we won't get a
chance to really see it until we put the pads off.
Speaker 2 (34:44):
That's exactly right, and that'll be up on Monday.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Susie Warden, Hey, Susie, you want to sit down here
for a second pop on with us for a few minutes.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
We're on until noon.
Speaker 1 (34:51):
But I'm glad you're able to swing by.
Speaker 6 (34:53):
How are you just barely flew in?
Speaker 1 (34:56):
Just just made it. Probably get another team period, which
I know this.
Speaker 6 (35:00):
Will be good. Yes, sorry, it took a little while
to uh get my stuff was parked Saturday morning. Just
got in last night back from vacation, just like actually
this morning. Yeah, yeah, I was a joking when I
said we were. It's it's a long travel back from
Aruba's it takes a while to believe. Yeah, so but
(35:20):
it's awesome. So I'm like, I'm still kind of in
beach mode, but I'm ready. It's time.
Speaker 3 (35:26):
You know. It's funny that you and beach mode because
I was telling Ryan these practices that we have now
that's technically training camp.
Speaker 6 (35:33):
Is it's like beach mode. There you go, not be
no beech mode compared to when you it's Nick Ferguson
going back and you know when I played.
Speaker 3 (35:42):
I don't even have to do that.
Speaker 6 (35:43):
It was way hard.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
I don't have to do that. All I have to
do is come out here and watch practice and it
speaks for itself.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
Well yeah, because they get water breaks and they get
beach mo.
Speaker 3 (35:52):
Get that one mode.
Speaker 6 (35:54):
Aruba, one happy Island.
Speaker 3 (35:55):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Thinks he's very clever.
Speaker 6 (36:00):
That's very close.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
We've been talking about men's sweat for three hours now.
Speaker 3 (36:02):
I know.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
I heard you guys on my way in. I was listening. Yeah,
that's because you're obsessed with the beads of sweat, right, Yes, really,
it's the color of the mind with the radios.
Speaker 3 (36:11):
Right. He thinks that early on the practices was so intense.
You know, guys on here working up a sweat and
I'm like.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
This because it's ninety what sweat? So were we?
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Yes? So? So your body's natural impulse is the sweat.
It's released moist in the cool the body. But that
wasn't because they were exerting all that energy. That's all
I'm saying.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
I'm waiting for you to drop into like a Derek
Zoolander of water is the essence of wetness, and I
don't need but it is just it is of beauty.
Speaker 3 (36:38):
Because you were going to do it for me. Okay, See,
yeah that was deep how this moved to the yes.
Speaker 6 (36:46):
I missed.
Speaker 1 (36:46):
Well, we just found out Drew Sanders got injured and
he was carted off. So that's one thing that we're
all kind of waiting to find out a little bit
more information. Of course, Coach Peyton will talk after practice
about that. But yeah, I mean, so far, we've been
seeing some of the younger players, especially the rookies out there,
really impressing. We were talking about during seven on seven
Kyrie s Rowing made a couple of diving catches, which
(37:06):
was really nice to see Pat Bryant to continue to
kind of make his mark here for extended playing time,
hopefully into preseason.
Speaker 3 (37:14):
What do you see in there, Nick, Well, this what
they're working on here is what you usually refer to
as a sleen shot. You're putting yourself back in position
to now put yourself on the back hip of the
guy on pump return.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
This is how you make sure.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
That we've were talking about earlier, that guy who's receiving
the plant's Marvin Mince. He is well protected. You got
to block up front and you have to go through
the techniques.
Speaker 1 (37:37):
What are you excited to watch out here, Susie? You
know you're just getting back in from beach mode.
Speaker 6 (37:41):
But yeah, and so are they apparently, so now you
know what I'm really excited? Well, I know you kind
of talked about how there's some things that are kind
of set in stone as far as in your mind,
as far as some roster spots go. I always enjoy
seeing who are your Nick Fergusons, Who are your Rod Smith?
Who's on the bubble that's gonna make it oh, look
at him. He just struck a pose. That's always very
(38:03):
interesting to me.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
But I love those stories.
Speaker 6 (38:05):
I love those stories. Nick knows that I love. That's
that's the essence of the podcast. I love the stories
of the guys that, you know, all they need is
that one chance, that one play in a preseason game,
you know, And that's why we have preseason. People wonder
why do you have preseason? Well, A, we all need
to get ready to but be it so that we
can find, you know, the diamonds and the rough. And
I'm really excited to see who emerges from that in
(38:27):
this preseason, which will be fun. And then also I
thought there was a fight. Sorry, they're like, we're all
scattering For a second, I was like, wait, first day,
no way. And then I'm excited about I'm excited about
the linebackers, and I you know, I go back to
what I said on the show a couple weeks and
I was on with you Ryan about what Jonathan Cooper
said to me, is we were leaving the Bills stadium
at that playoff game. We're walking out and he's shaking
(38:51):
his head, his head down, you know, and I go
into like mom mode. I was thinking about this because
they're like all my kids age. I got kids that
are twenty five and twenty two. So I think, I'm like, oh,
it's gonna be okay. But you know, we're back here again.
It's gonna be our and you know, just head down
and he's like, you know, he goes, I know what
I need to do. I need to lift more. I
got to do more squats. My legs need to be stronger.
Like he just was already in his head going through
all the things that he knew I needed to do
(39:12):
so they could get back to that spot again next year,
which was to me fascinating a that he was just
like saying it as we're walking out of the stadium,
and I'm like, oh my gosh, this is awesome. I can,
you know, bring it back up to him again as
we go into the season. But and then I hear,
you know, I was listening as I could on podcasts
and whatnot when I was gone this week, and he's
been doing great this week. You know, he's one of
the guys that's been shining so which I'm not surprised about.
(39:34):
And I'm excited about Nick Benito, and I'm just excited
about this whole group and seeing how they now evolve
a little bit more. There's one more year, and Nick,
you know this better than anybody. Once you keep getting
those years under your belt. And I know, you don't
get younger as you get you know, more years of
experience in the NFL, but you get smarter. The game
slows down more, you get more adept to you know
(39:56):
what's coming, you're used to the things.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
You know.
Speaker 6 (39:58):
You get that postseason game in there so that you
know what to expect, how fast it is, how different
it is even in the regular season, and the hype
and everything else that goes along with it, because everything
is situational. And once you have that under your belt,
you're a little smarter, a little bit better.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
So yeah, I'm glad that you brought this up because
Ryan and I were talking about, you know, the wide receivers,
and Ryan said, well, there are six guys who you
can say that they're going to make this team.
Speaker 6 (40:21):
Oh yeah, he'starting to get them on the fifty three.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
That's right, right, And I'm like, well, you know you
mentioned a guy like like Rod and myself where we
were not deemed as being in that five of that
eight dbs that, but we made plays in camp to
change people's mind and I'm just like, well, you're gonna
have a young player and the wide receiver group or
the running back group that can surprise a lot of individuals.
So we at the beginning of camp everything is hople
(40:44):
Spring's eternal, but the competition is going to really truly
start to wrap up, and He's going to increase opportunities
for those guys who will lord to your guys to
have a little window to make some play. So we
just see that. We just have to sit back and
see if those players can actually step into that level.
Speaker 6 (41:02):
Did you guys have any joint practices when you did preseason?
Speaker 3 (41:06):
Not not here with with the Broncos, when I when
I'm with the Texans, we did. We would always go
up to New Orleans and practice against them, but they
would come to our place.
Speaker 6 (41:15):
And how helpful was that? It was a standout.
Speaker 3 (41:18):
It was really helpful because once again, the preseason games
were kind of tell where it was kind of watered
down during those intersquad scrimmages. Each coach had their scripts
and they wanted to work on certain things out in
the field in the red zone, so you really got
the competitive push from a lot of guys, which ultimately
led to a lot of competitive fights if you will.
Speaker 6 (41:41):
Oh yeah, yes so, but they happened to you this year.
Is cool to have the forty nine ers and the Cardinals.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
But you know what, here's why things gonna happen. The
league's gonna move to eighteen games. You're probably gonna lose
a preseason game of two and all the teams are
going to have at least three in a squad scrimmage. Oh,
that's what I think.
Speaker 6 (42:01):
Is going to get to inner squad not necessarily multi
team practices. Okay, I joined practice. Okay, I could see
that something nice play here in the R R J.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
Harvey.
Speaker 1 (42:13):
They had a lead blocked there from Ben Powers and
they just ran around the right side.
Speaker 3 (42:17):
Oh what a catch?
Speaker 2 (42:18):
No no, no, no catch, no catch, no catch.
Speaker 1 (42:21):
Cad Abrams Drain just broke a couple of pass from
Bonix to.
Speaker 2 (42:27):
Brian Pat Bryan not so fast?
Speaker 3 (42:31):
Did he didn't have it?
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Is it an adjustment?
Speaker 3 (42:33):
Wow?
Speaker 2 (42:34):
Caught him in the air, but did not did not
complete the catch.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
You know what they call that? Finishing the play with
coach Payton?
Speaker 2 (42:42):
Is that what they call it?
Speaker 3 (42:42):
Yes, that's what they called finishing the pink. You a
receiver can always catch.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
I'm glad you're here.
Speaker 4 (42:47):
What he doesn't always have to come.
Speaker 3 (42:48):
Down with it? Finished the play defensively. Yes, that's what
you want, and.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
He just did. Yes, Cad, I like him, Yes, I
like Chris.
Speaker 3 (42:56):
Ans young player stepping up.
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Yeah, I have him on the roster. By the way,
just kid, you were worried about that.
Speaker 3 (43:01):
I wasn't worried.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Okay, so Susie, since since you disagree so much with
my statement about the wide receiver.
Speaker 6 (43:07):
No, see how he does this. I didn't say I
didn't disagree. I just was making fun of the fact
that you had like six pen to me, I don't.
Speaker 1 (43:15):
Know you guys all we broke out. The acoustic guitar
started sort of saying, kumbai ya. You guys disagree so
much with my statement, then tell me who's off this roster.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
Tell me which part of the.
Speaker 1 (43:24):
Six is not gonna make it, because you guys are
so clever.
Speaker 3 (43:28):
Go ahead, which one of the six that may not
make it? Yeah, I mean you still could put one
of those guys like pist Brian can always go on
practice squad as a third rounder.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Are you.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
I but Uhlehigh as a third.
Speaker 6 (43:43):
Round they can't matter.
Speaker 2 (43:46):
You have to It matters to your first year. It
does to everybody.
Speaker 3 (43:52):
Okay, listen, I've been around Bill Parcells. It didn't matter
to him. He's trying to put the best players on
the field. That's the whole idea.
Speaker 6 (44:01):
It matters to a coach that has an ego that
can't take the fact that if if I drafted some
guy in the first, one, two, three, four rounds, I
have to be able to play. He's gonna make it work.
And that's not the way you do it.
Speaker 2 (44:10):
You comp him to Michael Thomas on draft night just
for fun.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
I didn't do that.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
No, I've seen the coach did.
Speaker 6 (44:18):
But if he doesn't do what he's supposed to do
in practice and pre season he.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
Has so far, you can go for Michael Thomas. Rico Thomas.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
I mean, I mean that's how quickly it changes. Yes,
that's how quickly it changes.
Speaker 3 (44:29):
Because especially when you have competition and other guys are
stepping up that you did not anticipate.
Speaker 6 (44:34):
That's the whole thing. There you go, you don't know
what some guys are.
Speaker 3 (44:37):
You don't know, yeah, right, So you could say, well,
Pat Bryant. Oh yeah, he's gonna be on this roster,
but you don't know if another guy is going to
elevate his level of play that make you make you
change your mind and lor as soon as he said,
I and I can speak to this. And it's true
when some coaches some scouts have their mind made up
on a particular guy. They can't allow someone else out
to outshine that. God, Oh no no, because it looks bad.
Speaker 6 (44:59):
On the right and you have to get past that.
They're the one that affects your team. You can't get.
Speaker 2 (45:05):
Past the Pat Bryant on the roster bubble. Good to know.
Speaker 6 (45:08):
No, that is not at all in all of our mouths.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (45:12):
I just tweeted it out. Peruse workin Peruseie wargin Fergus
wait for me to start this season.
Speaker 6 (45:19):
Ryan will never give me an interview on the.
Speaker 2 (45:20):
Roster bubble already for two days into practice.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
What we're just talking about the love of competition? How
right now with toe early, you don't know some guys
going to grow into certain positions, some guys.
Speaker 6 (45:31):
Are going to call you want that that's the best thing.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Competition's great. Yeah, for a practice squad, you like.
Speaker 6 (45:37):
Your guys, why can't why can't you have a guy
come out of nowhere and then all of a sudden
just shine and be better than somebody you drafted. That's
not there's nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
I completely agree.
Speaker 1 (45:48):
And every other season, every other season for the Broncos
that I've covered the team, that is absolutely the case.
Speaker 6 (45:54):
And that's not going to happen this year.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
It's not gonna happen this year.
Speaker 6 (45:56):
Oh god, Ryan, what are you smoking?
Speaker 2 (46:00):
Good questions?
Speaker 6 (46:00):
Seriously, it happens every year. Every year we have somebody
done somewhere you're like, wow, did not see that?
Speaker 2 (46:08):
Just not at that position. Other positions? Absolutely, Oh okay,
I'm wide open.
Speaker 6 (46:12):
It's not a wide receiver.
Speaker 1 (46:13):
Just not a wide receiver. That's the only position this year.
And it's really specific to this year. It's not even
it's not even every year on the.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
Board that can like time stamp this right now and
so you can play it last in Week seventeen. Please,
when somebody has scored five touchdowns this year.
Speaker 2 (46:31):
A wide receiver at wide receiver with no injuries.
Speaker 6 (46:34):
That Ryan didn't even know his name on day one.
Speaker 2 (46:36):
That's not going to help you out here.
Speaker 6 (46:38):
Every you know, everybody's name.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Yeah, that's that's not gonna happen.
Speaker 6 (46:41):
Okay, that's true.
Speaker 3 (46:41):
Yeah, So you're taking a hole for yourself because some
of these other receivers that the opposite way that you
don't have all the right side, that you don't think, are
going to make this scene when you go try to
interview them. Yeah, you're going to be like.
Speaker 6 (46:51):
You know, we're like you know what we were on
day one report.
Speaker 3 (46:55):
That's what I'm gonna tell you.
Speaker 1 (46:56):
Yeah, I saw I saw your tweet about Nick Ferguson
and Susie Party.
Speaker 6 (47:00):
Because I followed you on Twitter, and so I was
gonna follow up in week seventeen. It's no thank you
when you came to be in the locker.
Speaker 3 (47:07):
Room for an interview and I pulled them over like,
hey man, let me let me tell you what Ryan
never said watching I'm not gonna believe.
Speaker 2 (47:14):
This is my wallpaper, my phone, your tweets.
Speaker 4 (47:16):
Rightly, So some guy, some guy has it in his locker.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Your words motivating him, you know.
Speaker 6 (47:25):
So maybe I shouldn't say that you don't know his name,
but he's just not on your radar, like you've got
a there's a handful of guys that just are just
like you just don't even think that they could do.
Speaker 1 (47:35):
It's not to say, like I said in years past
that I was using an example of Michael Bandy. Yeah,
he's been here now in camp for how many years?
And and last year I absolutely made the case laid
into camp that Michael Bandy should be in the conversation
for the top six. In years past, we've had several
examples of undrafted wide receivers or late on guys that
I thought had a very strong chancer, had good camps,
(47:57):
good trunk preseasons. Like I guess, the point I'm ultimately
trying to make, and it obviously not.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
Working, is this is a this is a unique season.
Speaker 1 (48:05):
It's just a unique season where they brought in Trent Sherfield,
they drafted Pat Bryant, and they already had four guys
in my estimation that were already like locks for the roster.
And that's just a rare It's just a rare moment
most most seasons, most seasons is four, most seasons maybe five.
But once you brought in two new guys this year,
and Tris Sherfields is a course special teamer, right, you're
(48:26):
paying him to be here unless and again, unless he
gets hurt, that's what it is. And then Pat Bryant,
you drafted in the third round, when you drafted day
two wide receiver, you don't usually move on from those
guys quickly unless they really are completely inept at their position.
Speaker 2 (48:39):
And if that's the case, then that's what it is.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
He has not shown an aptitude so far, and I
guess there's a projection at that point that he won't
fall off from where he's at.
Speaker 2 (48:48):
And I certainly know the coaching staff loves.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
I didn't have your mentality as a player trying to
break into the league. I would have never made a team.
Let me look around the room. Oh that's hearing Jones.
How am I ever going to do this? How might
as well just go home? Yes?
Speaker 4 (49:07):
Yes, yes he does.
Speaker 3 (49:09):
Yes.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
Luckily he went in the GM and a head coach
doing that.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Tarl Davis was a six rounder, so it was a
little bit different.
Speaker 3 (49:15):
How was it different. You're still talking about a guy
coming out of nowhere putting himself on the map, and
the play and the play that he made was in
the preseason.
Speaker 6 (49:23):
Don't kickoff in Tokyo, not the position that he played. Yeah,
special team.
Speaker 1 (49:27):
You're yelling at me is something that I know very
well as a Broncos fan for life.
Speaker 2 (49:31):
I'm ahead, I'm.
Speaker 3 (49:32):
Yelling at you because I want you to keep that
in mind. Because Terrell Davis was able to do If
you're looking around the league, there are a lot of
players who were able to do it with the deck
was stacked against him, of course, but they persevere, they
maximize their opportunity. And whos to say that there's not
a player on this roster offensive defensive side of the
ball who can't do the same thing. But luckily you're
(49:53):
not putting this roster together, or I wouldn't have made
this roster. Ross Smith would have made this roster. Turell
Davis would have made this Rosser. I'm just saying, I.
Speaker 1 (50:01):
Just got a text from Bronco's insider says I have
a thousand percent agree with you on the wide receiver.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
So thank you.
Speaker 6 (50:06):
I appreciate that's listening.
Speaker 4 (50:08):
Yes, come on out, thanks Ben, and I have seen.
Speaker 6 (50:13):
This for Ben.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Yes, just ride a horse together.
Speaker 6 (50:17):
I mean, for God's sakes.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
We ride a horse together.
Speaker 1 (50:19):
And you're like, Ideo, yeah, Ideo, somebody's gonna put.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
That on the back.
Speaker 2 (50:24):
AI put us on our horse together and I don't
want that.
Speaker 6 (50:32):
Yes right, driving the horse very quickly.
Speaker 1 (50:36):
Thank you to Dave Tepper. Thank you to Zach Seger.
Thank you Anthony Rod for all the fantastic work out
here that we'ven lie from Punker Parkersby. Thank you, Susie
Wargen to Rick Lewis toron Malania Break, Nick, thank you
for hanging out with me today, man, I appreciate you
make him sweat.
Speaker 2 (50:53):
We're out of here. Check it out on the podcast.
