Speaker 1 (00:00):
Day.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:01):
Hey, we sports day logan Ryan Edwards with you until
four o'clock today. The Rockies are playing an early one
this afternoon as they're taking on the Guardians, and that
I'll actually be for the next three days. But we
got a ton to get too, very excited to be
here with you and Rapport joins the three thirty. Good
news for Courland Sutton today was the Pads day, and
of course we'll get to the coach prime news that
(00:21):
happened earlier this afternoon.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Dave, my friend, good to see you.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
How are you? And you Ryan? So good news for
Curlon Sudden that he was in Pass today.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
He was in Past today, not practicing with team.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I don't know if you saw that day I did.
Everybody's talking about it.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah. So they got a deal done. So they got
a deal done.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Good for them, four years, ninety two million, right around
twenty three million per and it ends up being forty
one million in guarantees. But that's just actually added on
to the fourteen that he was going to get. So
I don't know, it's pretty a pretty good deal really
for all involved. You know, we spent time, as most
talk shows did this offseason talking about how much you
(01:02):
pay him, if you pay him, those kinds of things.
I certainly was on the side of paying him. I
can't remember where you were on this discussion, but maybe
you want to clarify.
Speaker 1 (01:13):
I did not. I was not certain that the Broncos
were going to you know, we were talking about the
amount of money that they were willing to commit and
what length of contract that that Courtland was able to get.
And I prefaced my remarks best saying, I think I
think Courtland's a really good receiver. He's made some big,
(01:35):
big catches. He's made big catches for Russell Wilson two
years ago, he made big catches for Bonix last year,
and I mean, you want somebody like that. I did
not think that it would be a deal that would
approach you know, even the high twenties or thirty million dollars.
I just I just didn't think the team was going
(01:57):
to be willing to go to that length. But I'm
really glad. It's it's good that Courtland has some guaranteed money,
which is ultimately important in NFL contracts. It's good that
the team, I think, would view this and they I
don't know that they'd ever used this vernacular. But I
(02:18):
think to me, I would view that as almost a
team friendly deal, and you get your best receiver, your
most productive receiver the last two years back in full
for at least two more years, and so I think
it's honestly to me, when they announced that deal, I'm thinking, Okay,
that's that's a win win.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
And that's exactly what I thought as well.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
He's tied for eighteenth, sixteenth, isn't it, Calvin Ridley eighteenth
as far as twenty three million per yeah, which when
we kind of broke it all down, we went over
the list and we said, this feels like about the
right range.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
The one well, one of us did.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
It was me, That's who said that you were I.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Said your sticker price was a little bit higher.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
I said, I was willing to go higher.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
So I think the Broncos did a good job here.
I would have gone higher.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Of course, but you never go higher if you don't have.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
To, if you don't have right that's right, that's right.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
So so George Payton and that front office group obviously
would have done a better job than I would have done.
I give them credit. Yes, I would have given up
more money.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I also think you have to give Courtland and his
agent credit because they could have I mean, they could
have thought like many and said, wait a minute, you
know T Higgins and I see all these salaries, you
got Jamar Chase making more than forty million. You know,
sometimes sometimes guys get caught up too much in like
(03:46):
what's what's everybody else got, instead of focusing just on Hey,
what am I going to get?
Speaker 2 (03:51):
What?
Speaker 1 (03:51):
What do you really think my value is here? Now?
Can we sit down to debate this a little bit?
Can I make Can I present my side? Can I
agent present my side in terms of why we think
that's a little bit too low? But I think it's
it's pretty clear that the agent and court and his
side were willing to work with the Broncos. And you
(04:13):
try to get as much as you can, and the
team tries to get a guy for the you know,
the lowest number you possibly can and keep him half happy.
And so that's why I think it's a win win.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
It is a win win.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
And I said early in the process that I was
afraid he would look at the t Higgins contract, which
was like twenty eight and a half around there, and
he would say I think I should be in the
same conversation.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And that was my next comment to you.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I said, that will never happen.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
I said, so, do you think Carlond Sutton's as good
as T Higgins. I can't remember how you answered that.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I said, absolutely, Okay.
Speaker 3 (04:41):
Yeah, but again we can have different opinions on these
kinds of things.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I said for the beginning.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Only when it comes to wide receiver play. I'm sorry
to step in at this point. If I had a gabble,
i'd whack the crap out of the No for the questions.
That's it.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Yeah, there we go, Yeah, all rise justifiably. I would
have been off on this one.
Speaker 3 (05:08):
I'm not gonna say the W word because I don't
feel like that's appropriate because I've been saying I want
to keep him. I just I would have paid him more.
I thought he was going to ask for more, and
I would have gone you.
Speaker 1 (05:19):
Could assume he did.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
He might have, and so, but the fact he.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Got it for twenty three per you're only you're adding
twenty seven million in guarantees towards it.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Already twenty three million was the Broncos first offer.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Probably not right, Dave. That was perfect.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
That is correct.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
That's perfect, So good stuff for Cortland seven, who I
assume will now practice with team. So for all the
media members that are still upset about that or worried
about that or thinking about that, I expect tomorrow we
will see Courtland Sutton practicing with team and seven on seven,
which I don't know, I didn't necessarily need or I
don't need to see a lot of Courtland Sutton practicing
(05:57):
with seven on seven and team to know what he's
going to do this season.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
That wasn't a big.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Payton said in his post practice comments.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
Right, And that's.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Sort of I mean, that's that's how we paraphrase, but
that was his message.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
That was his message. I know what I'm getting in
that player. Yeah, and we do too, which is great news. Obviously,
opportunities for guys like Troy Franklin, for Pat Bryan's they're
getting some extra tick.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
As you would say, I think Courtland Sutton went a
long way in sending a message to the team that listen,
I'm all in on this team. I really want to
get this deal done. Because he was out there. Yes
he didn't participate in team, but he did all the
other drills and there are some guys that come in
in a situation like that and they ride the bike
(06:42):
the entire practice. In fact, in fact, Sean Payton mentioned
that like it wasn't like he was over here riding
a bike or basically holding out while holding in.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Actually, here's what I have the Sean Payn's comments right here.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Well, he's gotten reps, he's gotten limited reps, and.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
I think we're close.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
I'm not going to speak ahead of it, but we're
real close on a contract. And you know, I think
our goal when he and I met George all along
was was you know this coming Monday. So I think
there'll be something fairly soon. There, here's the deal. He's
been participating in all the individual all the one on one,
he's gotten seven on seven, he's gotten team reps.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
He's just being smart and h So it'd be different
if if you felt like he was.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Missing improvement or or not being out here, or just
being out here riding the bike or something. So I
kind of know that player well enough to feel real
good about where he's at in his his mindset, both
mentally and physically.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Well, well, you had to know what was close.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
If Sean Payton is telling the media, Hey, I think
that contract's about to get done.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Yeah, like you had to know what was done?
Speaker 2 (07:54):
You basically done.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
He's out out there telling he will break news if
you will when it comes to the like Drew Brees
meeting with his quarterback bow Nix. Well, we know why that's
out there. He wants to put that out there to
prop up BO. And today listen what Bo is doing
in the off season. He's meeting with Drew Brees, meaning with
Tom House. These are the things that he's doing. And
this isn't this great for this young quarterback that I
hand picked with Corlon Sudden that heels done. If nothing
(08:17):
ink is drying on the paper, it's pretty it's closest
to that as possible. So as soon as he said that,
you and I were standing next to each other, all right,
there you go. Yeah done?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Oh yeah, who's next? By the way, in your opinion
in terms of contracts.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Yes, ooh boy.
Speaker 3 (08:33):
Um.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
I have absolutely no inside information. If I had to
hazard a guess, I would say Zach Allen.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
That'd be my guest too.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
Well, I'd prefer you, oh, maybe get your own guests.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Well, Dave, I want to be creative here and come
up with something else just for the purposes of radio.
But I just made a whole presentation. It's like a
slideshow the other day, like why Nick Benito? They should
wait on Nick Benito? Like it feels disingenuous. If I
now know, I think people are used to it.
Speaker 1 (09:10):
I mean really, I think you say one thing one day,
the next day you say something completely honest, like consistent.
That's what I mean. You are consistent in your inconsistency
in my own mind. So if you if you want
to say Benito, or maybe you want me to say Benito,
and you say, Alan, yeah, let's do that, Okay, I'll
take Benito. I don't have any idea. You think Benito
(09:30):
gets a new deal before Terry McLaren.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
Ooh, that's fascinating. No, no, I do not.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
You know. You know the worst thing that the worst
news of the day for Terry McLaren was it Corlin
Sutton signed.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
That's one percent, and honestly under the radar of this
whole conversation, because I hadn't heard somebody else bring that up,
is the fact that Brogo has got this done before
Terry mclaurin's deal.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Because that was Terry McLaurin.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Though I was told it is in the mid range
for his request.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Would you pay Terry McLaurin at thirty thirty one years
old that money?
Speaker 1 (10:07):
Wow, he's been the guy there. My hesitancy, I think,
is exactly why, or part of the reason why, Adam Peters,
the GM of the Commanders who used to be here
in Denver before going to San Francisco, has not got
the deal done. Ideally, I mean, NFL teams, you know,
(10:29):
they don't make a habit out of jumping in overpaid.
They pay when they absolutely are forced to pay. And
that's not saying they don't, you know, love their players
or respect their players. That's not it at all. But
that's just how business works in the NFL. So I
think McLaurin will get a deal done. I'm not sure
(10:52):
it'll be a deal as I was told in the
mid thirties. I guess it depends on how long the
contract quest is. But I was told still some work
to be done there.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Well.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Certainly throw for the Broncos, Corland Sutton has been another
homegrown player that is really paid off here long term
with the Broncos, and we've seen now this front office
really prioritizing that, and I think I just for a moment,
want to come back to the point about if these
guys couldn't play or they weren't very good, Sean Payton
(11:26):
wouldn't keep them around. He would not keep encouraging the
front office to pay them, he would not keep giving
them opportunities. And sometimes that kind of gets missed throughout
all this, like, well, you're gonna pay Courland Sutton because
you have nobody better. Now you're paying Courtland Sudden because
the coaching staff believes in him and knows that he
can be good for what this team needs.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Yeah, normally the NFL line of thinking is not we're
going to pay this guy because we don't have anybody better.
If that's the situation, then I think the head coach
looks at the GM and says, we got to go
get somebody better exactly, whether in the draft or free agency,
or we just have to suck it up this year
and hang on with what we have and the next
(12:04):
year we'll go we'll go get your Constantly, I think
in the NFL, looking to improve your team every single
year in every single way.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
What's it out to you about today's practice?
Speaker 1 (12:15):
The length it was short an hour and a half.
I think are thereabouts right, Yeah, Now, I'll tell you
that the thing that stood out to me was how
different this team looks from three years ago just on
(12:37):
the hoof, right. I mean, I'm not in the weight room,
I don't I don't see any of those workouts. I'm
talking about when grown men on an NFL squad take
the practice field in full pads and we're there every
single year, been there for every single training camp since
nineteen ninety. You know, you eyeball guys and you give
(13:01):
them the eye test. I mean, how they look on
the hoof, and I can't I mean for Broncos fans,
I cannot tell you just how different these dudes look.
And when Sean Payton got here three years ago, I mean,
they're there. Their size is impressive. I thought practice was crisp.
(13:21):
Uh No, you know, they were just sort of thudding.
Uh So there wasn't any getting after it, which normally
in some cases, normally on the first day of practice
you're gonna you're gonna get with it a little bit,
knock the cob webs out, so to speak. But none
of that what else? So they look really good. R J.
Harvey to me, has a what I call the hit radius.
(13:46):
It's it's one of the things that if you look
historically at the NFL and there have been anomalies, there
have been some atypical backs. I mean Eric Dickerson would
be one, there have been, Chuck Munsey would be one.
But as the game has matured and gone on, guys
(14:07):
like that have a harder time staying healthy, even fabulous athletes,
because their hip target is big. So when they come
through now they pack a punch, but there's a lot
of target for defenders to hit with r J. Harvey.
What struck me today was he's built so low to
the ground. I would look if I'm a Broncos fan
(14:29):
listening to the games, going to the games, what have you,
I would look for r J. Harvey to have to
fend off more neck high tackles than any Broncos running
back in recent memory. Because guys just aren't you know,
you're taught, hey take them down thigh level, thigh board
(14:50):
level or a little bit lower. That's going to be
uncomfortable for a bunch of defensive players. They're just not
used to getting that low to the ground. So so
I think guys are going to hit him up in
the chest and higher, which I think will make it
even tougher to get him on the ground.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
I thought it looked really good today and we wanted
to see a little bit of the running game. I'm
sure it'll develop more as training chemp goes on then
we get to the preseason, but it's not until you
really get the pads on that you get a sense
of kind of how that's supposed to look. What we
did see as we had talked to Orlando last week,
that the wide zone that's really coming together, and you
got to see those cut back lanes starting to form.
(15:28):
So that that was all very exciting for me to
see because until the pads go on, even when they
do hand the ball off, it's like, all right, well
we're not really trying to do it, we're just gonna
see it kind of work. When you get the pads on,
you saw the offensive line they were having a good time.
Speaker 1 (15:43):
Yeah, I think I think you know the zone run
game again. You have to have athletic offensive lineman. You
got to have offensive linemen that can move right because
you're not digging out. It's not the gap scheme as much.
Maybe I'm sure they'll probably still run some of it,
but it changes. It changes the gap integrity of a defense.
(16:06):
And if if a defensive if a defensive edge setter,
like away from the tight end, would be in a
five technique just outside the tackles shoulder, his job is
to set the edge.
Speaker 3 (16:17):
Well.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
If the tackle bucket steps and then is running to
try to get to that edge defensive players outside shoulder,
that player has to make a decision do I continue
to fight that pressure outside and how far and how
long do I do that? Do I try to occasionally
give him a move and get inside. If you do that,
(16:39):
now the defensive coach is going to say, you damn
sure better make the tackle because you've just given up
the edge. So it just requires, I think, from a
defensive standpoint, a lot more movement by the box players
prior to engaging the running back, and that that can
be that can be a challenge.
Speaker 2 (16:58):
What do you think I have an Ingram?
Speaker 1 (17:01):
He's not as big as I thought, which doesn't matter.
I mean, maybe I'm taller than he thought, but he's
I mean, he's I thought Evan Ingram would be. I
thought he was like a six to three guy. There's
no way in the world he's six y three really
smooth oute runner. I think Sean's going to be smart
(17:22):
in terms of how he deploys him. At times he'll
be attacked what I call attached. At times he's going
to be a slot player. At times he's going to
be what I call the cap, which is the tight
end lined up just outside the tight end that's attached.
He'll be able to move him. So it just it
just adds to the arsenal, I think, and gives them
(17:44):
somebody that will create some matchup problems in terms of
identifying when let's say Troutman and Ingram are both in
the game. Normally in twelve personnel, you might get you
might go back to your base defense, right base defense,
and even though they play some nickelon on first down,
some teams still will play their base. Now you see
(18:06):
two tight ends in the game, one receiver comes out.
So the thinking, the old school thinking, is okay, we'll
get back into the run, dominant defense, play base defense,
and all of a sudden, Ingram's in the slot. Well
who so how do you who do you cover him with?
Is you cover him with a safety? That's not a
great matchup for most safeties. So I think it's a linebacker. Well, yeah,
(18:27):
I don't. I don't think that's that's gonna happen much.
But I think it's a just as another tool for
Sean Payton and we'll make them that much better.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Looks pretty smooth, though, I mean, that's.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Really smooth outrunner.
Speaker 2 (18:38):
That's the thing that jumps out to me as immediately.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Almost low to the ground. Yeah, I'm thinking, wait, is
number one Evan Ingram? Yeah, and then you check the
roster and sure enough, I'm thinking, wow, Okay, but he's
he's a smooth, smooth route runner for being a tight end.
His routes and I watched him a lot today. He
runs routes that are more closely related to how wide
(19:01):
receivers run their routes.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Then most tight ends completely agree.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
And that's been evident throughout the course of the OTAs.
But yeah, I mean today he was he was very involved.
I mean he had the one drop, if you will,
but otherwise he was catching passes over the middle in traffic.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I mean that's you think about the.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Moments that the Broncos are going to just need some
kind of productivity from the offense. They got a third
medium something along those lines. The ball is probably gonna
be going evid Ingram and that's gonna be fantastic. So
all right, good stuff, as we're often rolling here. By
the way, we did get an update on Alex Singleton
from Mike Cliss just a few minutes ago because he
left practice early. We saw him walking there kind of
pointing his thumb straight up into the air and looking
(19:38):
at it and apparently, yeah, he had a broken thumb
in practice, as Mike Cliss says, should only miss seven
to eight days before he can club it and get
back out there. I tell you what, man, not enough
is said about some of the things that you, guys,
you people athletes are willing to do. You broke a thumb,
You're like, you know what, some dirt on it, put
(20:00):
some tape on it. I'll be right back out there, guys.
Just don't worry about it.
Speaker 2 (20:03):
I'm good.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
Yeah, you know, I'm right there with you.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
If I get a broken thumb, like maybe i'd take.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
A couple days off, Yeah, I'm sure, a couple of weeks, yeah,
maybe months.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
Maybe months.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
No, But I think I think you know, you just
accept you accept the deal going into it. You're gonna
You're gonna have things like that and as long as
you can still run and still play, and linebackers don't
have to really worry about catching it too much. Club
it up and wrap it up and here we go.
So I thought, uh, I thought Singleton looked pretty good today.
(20:39):
He did, you know, I mean a bit of limited action.
Dre Greenlaw was out there at one point, really sucking wind.
One of the coaches walked over and said, welcome, Welcome
to fifty two eighty bro. So yeah, I'm excited. I'm
really excited about this team. And see kind of what
sort of season we have tonna be really great.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
All right, we have Ian rob joining us next.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
By the way, we all remember that one teacher who
made a difference, who believes in us, challenged us, or
just made learning fun. Now's your chance to say thank
you with Iheartradios Thank You Teacher powered by Donors Choose
nominated outstanding public school teacher who's gone above and beyond
for their students to win five thousand dollars to stock
their classroom.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
That full interview.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
I also checked in with Nick Benito on Saturday, so
you can find all that on demand. At kocollarad dot
com or on the iHeartRadio app. The way you never
miss an episode of the show. KWA A training camp
is powered by Chevron, committed to our local communities and
safely delivering affordable, reliable energy that powers color out of Ford.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
We're gonna have Ian Rappaport joining us here at a
matter of moments.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
He's getting through some security at airport five six six
nine zeros or KWA Commic Spirit Health text line if
you want to interact with the show.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
This one piqued my interest.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
To Dave Ryan, I believe you are owed too steak
dinners from comrade Albright and supple hands Dave for not
believing the Broncos would get a long term deal done
with Courtland Sutton.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
I believe that is correct. I believe I was. I
was champion.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
I think yeah again, to be accurate, you thought the
deal would be high twenties. I said, there's no way
they get a deal done.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
He said twenty five was the last number that I was, Well.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
Did they get a deal done for twenty five twenty three?
Speaker 2 (22:18):
Is he matter?
Speaker 1 (22:18):
Is twenty five twenty three?
Speaker 2 (22:21):
Technically?
Speaker 1 (22:22):
No, that's good, thank you. I'll accept that so no,
I think Ben definitely because Ben said, didn't Ben say
they would not get a deal done. I'm pretty sure
Ben said yeah. And I got to be honest about it,
I wouldn't. I wouldn't sure they'd get a deal done either. Now,
if you just said, hey, Courtland, Courtland's amenable to signing
(22:43):
for four years and ninety two with two years guaranteed
for forty one, I would have changed my tune, because
I didn't. I mean, I just didn't think that that
would satisfy court and his agent's side the deal.
Speaker 3 (23:01):
And in respect, I believed both you and Ben that
they were too far apart that this could be a
situation worth monitoring whether or not he was going to
be with the team. But the fact that he showed
up on time to training camp, he wasn't making any
kind of public statements like Terry McLaurin was making, it
felt like this was heading in the right direction, at
(23:21):
least from the beginning of camp. And yeah, according to
Sean Payton, from what we understood, he was just trying
to be careful out there. So why he was doing
some of the fewer things he was not doing as
much team, He wasn't doing as much seven on seven,
but he was out there, he wasn't making a big deal.
And now that deal got done, we'll see what the
Broncos can accomplish if they're going to get any other
deals done before camp raps and the season starts.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
Before we go too far, we'll get Ian on just
a second.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
We heard earlier from Coach Prime as he had a
press conference today with some medical professionals out there, his doctors.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
He said that he had a bladder.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
Tumor removed and they removed his bladder throughout the process. So, boy,
harrowing stuff from Coach Prime earlier today. So you have
fourteen surgeries in all, and certainly lost a lot of
weigh twenty five pounds I think we were talking about
earlier today.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
It's it's it's pretty scary stuff.
Speaker 1 (24:16):
Absolutely, And you know what I want to say, I
think everybody should send their best wishes and prayers to
Coach Prime, whether whether you like the program or like
him or what have you. We've got to be able
to sort of return to humanity a little bit when
(24:38):
things like this happen and stop, you know, stop with
the social media post about you know, negative things. I
mean that's a that's a big, big deal. I've had
one friend of mine that that fought bladder cancer. It's
not it's not an easy thing at all. I mean,
anytime you deal with cancer, I think it's it's very,
very tough. But you know, just sending prayers and speedy
(25:02):
recovery and you know, you just hope that he's going
to be able to manage things now, and that's It's
just that's an incredibly difficult situation for.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Him, unquestionable, No, absolutely, And I appreciated the transparency though, right,
I mean, at this point, it's his medical situation. It's
it's in a lot of ways, even though he's in
a high profile situation as a head coach of the
University of Colorado, in a lot of ways, it's still
his business, right, I mean, if he's coaching for the team,
then he didn't technically owe us anything. I know some
(25:36):
people would feel differently, that's how I feel. But I
appreciate the transparency on it because I do think there's
for a lot of people out there, especially men, they
need to hear this. They need to hear that you
should get those checks, and honestly, from what I understand,
they said today he didn't actually go in for this
like he didn't.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
He wasn't having issues. They discovered the.
Speaker 3 (25:57):
Tumor through a checkup of other something else. So again,
you know, getting those checkups is just so important. I'm
not trying to intentionally turn this into a PSA. I
just do think that coach prime, in the position that
he's in as a former Hall of Fame athlete now
head coach of one of our prestigious universities, I think
this is an important message that needs to be heard
(26:17):
by men.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
Yeah, I think, and we can turn it into a PSA.
I think that's okay too. We've talked often about how
men we're not any good at this at all. We're
not good at taking care of ourselves. We're not really
good at being dedicated and diligent in terms of getting
in on a regular basis to see your doctor. I
(26:40):
don't know whether it's men are more stubborn, or men
are fearful of what they might hear, or maybe a
combination of that and two or three other things. But
I think I think the message again in this situation,
should reiterate what you just said and what we've been
(27:01):
talking about for years and years and years. You follows.
You have to you have to go get a physical,
a yearly physical. You got it. You got to be
willing to go to the doctor. And it just gives
you the best chance, gives us the best chance to
hang around for a little bit.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
I like this quote. I don't get to pee like
I used to pee like. It's just a well, join
the clubs.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Like four or five times a night.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
Yeah right, yeah, I don't know about that. Yeah, let
me let me say that's not the case. But you
know what it men, as they get a little bit older,
there's there's all sorts of things Ryan that that will
be affected. You know, I'm just saying.
Speaker 3 (27:40):
I mean, if you want to pay the clearer picture
for those albums transparent, Oh.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
I think. I think as you get a little bit older, listen,
I used to be able to run, like get up
and go like go play basketball, do it? I mean,
can't do that. You can't do that. You know, can't
do that. Still shoot it, but you're not going to
be able to run up and down and play ninety
three feet of pressure defense. I mean, in your mind
(28:05):
you still think you can. I used to go across
the middle and catch catch footballs in a very difficult environment.
I don't think i'd want to do that anymore either,
But you know, I think again the message here, you know,
we hope that he's going to be okay. Sure, I
don't know that you're ever completely cured from cancer. I
(28:28):
was standing next to Vic Lombardi today and Vic has
had a very public battle with cancer, and and you know,
I don't believe his cancer is in remission. But I
think anybody who's who's dealt with cancer and a lot
of people I have a lot of people, a lot
of my friends have you know, I don't know that
you're I don't know. I don't know what the proper
(28:51):
mindset is. Maybe maybe it's whatever mindset strengthens the individual. Right,
So let's hope that let's hope that in his case,
the doctor said his cancer is cured. Let's hope that's
the case. But that is, you know, that is a
very very difficult cancer to have.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Yeah, perfectly said, and you're right about the cured, can't
They said that during the press conference today. But we're
staying right next to Vic when he said that, and
even he was kind of like, you know, that's not
that's not how I feel. And he's obviously been through
a lot of this, so obviously good good is good.
Wishes for coach Prime and his family. I do appreciate
him being out there and being transparent. I sort of
(29:34):
asked him about the contract situation. I didn't want to
get the well, I'm just focused on the season thing,
but the way I kind of asked him the question Daves,
I asked him in terms of does he view himself
in that upper echelon of edge rushers in the league?
And he absolutely came after it there And I can't
remember his full answer, you can find it on the website,
(29:56):
but yeah, he just basically said absolutely deserved to me
in that conversation, and I did it on the heels
of the contract.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
Are you trying to get are you trying to got
you question?
Speaker 2 (30:08):
I know I'm not the opposite. I'm saying that I
gave him a.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
Chance to really kind of push out there where he
views himself in his contract negotiations and he thinks he's
in the same conversation Watts.
Speaker 1 (30:19):
Your lips are moving, but your eyes tell me something
totally different.
Speaker 2 (30:23):
What's that?
Speaker 1 (30:24):
Yeah? Your eyes, like your eyes light up and like, yeah,
That was a pretty catchy.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Question because I could just ask you, hey, you know
where you have the contract negotiations.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
I'll answer for him. He absolutely deserves to be in
that conversation. Okay, absolutely, I mean he is a talented
edge pass rusher. And what I've consistently said about Nick
Benito with respect to a new deal, I don't think
there's any way the Broncos will move on from Nick Benito.
(30:56):
I really don't. And it's going to come down to
do they love him or do they really really like him.
If they really really like him, they'll be some hesitancy
in terms of, gosh, we want this kid back. He's
got such a bright future. What's it going to take
to get him? If you love him, you say, what's
(31:18):
it going to take to keep him? And we can't
afford to be without him no matter what happens within reason.
It's like Michaeh Parsons, all this stuff with the Cowboys.
Michael Parsons is going to get paid, and when it's
all said and done, he's going to be the highest
non quarterback in the history of the league from a
(31:39):
salary standpoint, So they can jump through all the I mean,
Jerry can say hey, you know all this stuff, which
like you just cringe. It's like stop, you know you're
gonna pay him. He knows you're gonna pay. Just get
him into camp and it's the start of the season.
I don't think the Broncos view Benito like the Cowboys
view Parsons, but that doesn't mean they don't love being
(32:00):
And that doesn't mean Banito is not going to be
uh or isn't already a great young.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Player, because I think he is. I think he is
too
