Speaker 1 (00:00):
Another abbreviated show.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
The Rockies are playing today four o'clock, will at least
a pregame cover starts at four o'clock. Hopefully it's none
of a two and a half hour delay like yesterday
in Cleveland.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
My goodness, Dave, good to see you.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I've heard the weather in Cleveland can be a little
bit dicey.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
You've you've heard about that?

Speaker 4 (00:17):
Huh yep, yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Maybe you know.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
By the way, the Rockies with that big win last night,
they became I think I think they are the leader
in the clubhouse in this category. The fourth time this
year the Rockies have come from behind when trailing going
into the ninth That leads the major leagues. And at
this point, frankly, I think it's our responsibility to point

(00:43):
out something that they lead the major leagues in other
than losses.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
That was my Rockies update.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
It's so funny because it's a big win. Form it
was a big win.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
And we'll talk about training camp today.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
All those kinds of things. Get some great sound from JK.
Dobbins to get to.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
But yeah, I last I was such a roller coaster.
Blaylock pitched a gym. You got through six innings with him.
You're up three to nothing, then all of a sudden
it's tied off that Naylor three run homer, and then
you're trailing five to three. Jake Bird just absolutely throws
up and you're just all, here we go, Here we

(01:21):
go again. This is the Rockies, this is what we are.
But I tell you what I need hope. I love
having hope.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
No, I don't know about hope. I'm ready to be
hurt again. But it was a nice come from behind.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
Wind right, I heard again tonight.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
I'm all that hopeful. But it was a good win.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
It was a good win.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
There's six and four now post All Star break and somebody, somebody.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
On the show called the Rockies winning. I'm trying.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Oh it was me.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
That's right, you did. I did pick the Rockies to it.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
This this week goes to you dominated two and oh dominant.

Speaker 4 (01:51):
I'm one on one.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I'm gonna I'm gonna kneel out the clock in all
of you.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
I like the good luck at that seal that works
out for you.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Today we had Broncos training camp, all sorts of good
stuff to react to that.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Before we get to that too far.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
You and I are both big baseball fans, we lost
Ryan Sandberg last night.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, that one's a tough one.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
I gosh, you know, you get going, there's so many
things to follow. And I vaguely because I was thinking, wow,
he's not that old. And then I went back and
looked to see he was diagnosed with a pretty aggressive
form of cancer in January of twenty twenty four, and
I remembered that, but I had forgotten that. But Ryan

(02:36):
Sandberg was somebody that that back when he played for
the Cubs, the Cubs were on WGN all the time.
The Rockies had not obviously come to Denver, and so
I watched and learned and knew more about the Cubs

(02:57):
and the Braves on WTVS YEP. Basically I watched the
Cubs every single day. And Ryan Sandberg was such a
stud I mean, such a great, great player. He's a
career like I don't know, two eighty something hitter, had
some pop for a second baseman, multiple All Star Games.

(03:21):
So I was, yeah, I was sad, And when I
saw that news, I really really was.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
I was such a big fan too, And you nailed it.
You didn't have the on demand, you couldn't go to
MLB packager, you got WGN, which we all did, and you.

Speaker 4 (03:34):
Got to have cell phones.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
When I was playing, we had Cubs games, we had
Braves games.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
It was the same in New Mexico where I was
growing up, and I was a big baseball fan. I
mean at the time I started to trade cards and
I was a big Cal Ripken junior fan, even though
I really didn't get to watch any of his games,
but I watched a lot of the Braves and with
David Justice in that group. And then of course, yeah,
as you mentioned, watch the Cubs with Ryan Sandberg, and.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
It was the Ryan that we joke about some of that.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
That that because Alfred that there's a sound bite where
Ryan at Sandberg is being interviewed and somebody called him
Ryan and he's like, it's not Ryan's Ryan, and so
that is why.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
So it's just one of those things.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
I remember hearing the broadcast, I thought, I mean, going in,
I thought his name was Ryan, and I'm thinking, what,
Harry Carey, He's not is he saying Ryan or is
he calling him Ryan? And is he just making a mistake.
Certainly his name can't be Ryan, right, like a lemon
Ryane right? But did Lemons have Ryan's Yeah, but.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
It's R I and D. I think, yeah, I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
Yeah, okay, I just want to make sure. But anyways, Yeah,
that was for me, like my metaphors.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Jame deal, Like, I was like, that's Ryan not Ryan,
and growing up, you know, collecting his baseball cards and
watching the Cubs and you just kind of fall in
love of those teams.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
That you could only see.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
Because they were the only teams that just sort of
up on your TV show. Yeah, I have a lot
of fun memories watching Ryan Sandberg. That was that was
sort of a tough one last year. Sure, So today
to transition into a training camp, you were out there,
I was out there second day of pads. Yep, it
was a little bit heavier run emphasis day. You noted
the physicality. I'm'm glad you pointed that out, because it
definitely felt like it up to today.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
They well, they had a nine on seven period, which
is inside run and even when you when you try
to control it as they do nowadays in football and
I think smartly, so it's still it's still probably the
most physical period of a practice schedule. I mean, one

(05:38):
on one pass rush can get physical to a certain degree.
But nine on seven, you've got bodies, you've got the
box on defense, and obviously you've got the interior part
of the offense and the running backs. So and they
did it on the the field that were that was
furthest from us. So frankly, it was a little bit
difficult to see. But yeah, I thought, I thought you could.

(06:01):
You could sense even from across a field, you could
sense that it was more physical. The practice was more
physical today. You know, I'm not sure. I'm not sure
I would say the offense had a great day, but
that's that's gonna happen in training camp. To tell you
the truth, I thought the defense, I'll tell you what.

(06:22):
The defense, even yesterday when they really didn't have much contact,
the defense has got a lot of juice, you know, Uh,
DJ Jones.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
DJ Jones.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Very active yesterday, Jonathan Cooper very active, Malcolm Roach, and
I'm talking about guys that are active, and then when
they're not in they're encouraging the second team of defenders
to like get after their ass, so to speak. So
I mean, I think, I think, and that's not uncommon

(06:58):
nor unusual at this point of training camp for an
NFL team, and Frankly, I think it's not uncommon to
have that sort of difference between the two for the
entire year. Your defense normally is has got more bravado
and when they're good and sort of more ring leader types.

(07:22):
So but I thought today was it was a good practice,
a little bit longer, a little bit cooler, Frankly, and
I would say overall, I thought the defense got the
upper hand.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, it felt like it felt like a good defensive day,
and it's and again, I think you said it right.
Most days we've been out there, it's been some wins
really for both sides, but more specifically first team defense
versus first team offense. It was definitely a first team
defense kind of day, and Bonix really just had a
tough time finding many throwing lanes, many opportunities. Guys were

(07:55):
just not open. It was one of those things where
he I mean, he took off and ran a few times.
And it's during team so that is certainly encouraged if
it's just not there. But I imagine if we were
able to see that play, those plays specifically from his view,
there was just nothing there. The covers in the back
end was sticky, the pressure up front was in his

(08:16):
lap almost immediately. And it's the combination of the defensive
line and the edge rush. It's not to say the
offensive line is not doing their job. It's just to
say that defensive line really was having their way. But again,
you got a little bit of the run game today.
I thought this was kind of an interesting moment. I
got a chance to interview JK. Dobbins after, and we're
gonna put we Actually the interview is up on our
on demand for the audio.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
The video will be up a little later.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
I asked him about running back by committee, and I
thought I was being clever here, Okay.

Speaker 4 (08:42):
Here you go again.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
Well, mister clever, you tried to get clever yesterday, tried
to trap guys into saying something it's not.

Speaker 4 (08:50):
Did he bite back.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
At you a little bit? A little bit?

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Good? Good.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I haven't even heard the cut, but I'm gonna say
good for JK.

Speaker 4 (08:58):
Dobbins.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
And he instantly, at least for today, becomes one of
my favorite broncos.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
It was such a fun interview, and and he's a
very fun personality, Like he's a very fun personality. But
I asked him, and I as I thought, I'm being clever,
what's the first of I asked him about Rgie Harvey,
And then I said, and also, what's it like to
be in a running back room where you're not exactly
competing for touches? Because it's already known that it's a

(09:24):
running back by committee?

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Oh my god, did you really if you ever just
think about this from now on, if you just wonder
about a question, if in your mind, wherever in the
recesses of your brain, it's some that little That little
thing says.

Speaker 4 (09:40):
I'm not sure this would be a good question.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
At least run it by me and I will try
to help you.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Okay, But that one, hell no.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
He basically said the same thing here as a goum.

Speaker 4 (09:54):
I mean I wouldn't.

Speaker 7 (09:55):
I would have called it a running back for the committee.

Speaker 4 (09:57):
Okay, But it like our day's really good. Like I
think he's willing to learn, he wants to be really good,
and he has a good talk.

Speaker 6 (10:07):
You know.

Speaker 7 (10:07):
I think it's going to be a good year for
the for the running back room. As far as the
running back by a committing thing, I don't know how
that goes, okay, I think, yeah, I don't know how
they go.

Speaker 2 (10:17):
Well, I mean, guess as a starting running back and
you've been a starting running back that hey, I want
the ball, right?

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Is that the mindset?

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (10:22):
I mean every time.

Speaker 7 (10:24):
Yeah, I think I'll running backs were the ball like
twenty five times a game.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
All right, well, let's give you the ball twenty five
times a game.

Speaker 4 (10:31):
Let's do that. If I stay healthy, you'll see it.
It'll be nice.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
Wow coming on him, I willing to acknowledge he was.

Speaker 4 (10:43):
Trying to be respectful. Oh he was.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
He's like, you gave me the side.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
Like, I can't bro I can't believe he asked this question.
But since I'm new here in town and I have
really no idea who you are, I'm going to try
to come up with an answer that allows both of
us to live here. What I'm thinking is are you
out of your Are you out of your mind? Running
back by I didn't come here for any running back
by committee. And by the way, his answer also was

(11:11):
telling him because he said, you know RJ RJ's good,
he's willing to learn. Didn't mention one of the other
running backs, JK. Dobbins this year, and he was a
guy yesterday and we really didn't talk about this. But
for all the yappen again, which is standard operating procedure
when in the NFL when a defense is really thinking

(11:32):
they're going to be good, and we all hope that
that's the case, but they're talking plenty of trash.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
JK.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
Dobbins walked over from the offensive group to the defensive
group and.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
Basically told him, what's.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Up about that soft blank blitz? You can't you can
bring that soft blank blitz to somebody else because he
picked up a blitzer and I trying to remember who
it was, but that that was the That was the
end of that blitz.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
So I like JK.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
Dobbin's attitude, but and I like you even more because
he allowed you to have another day on this earth
without getting part of your face bit off.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
His response is perfect and that is the reality.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
But man, for Broncos fans, we still have Melvin Gordon
in the back of our head.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
No you don't, Yes.

Speaker 4 (12:29):
We did. Gordon is nothing like JK.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Dobbs, No, not like that, but the attitude of I
don't want to share the backfield with another promising running
back like Philip Lindsay. When Philip Lindsay was here, there
was some excitement about what those two running backs could
be and Melvin Gordon was like, I don't know why
I have to talk about sharing the running back dues
with this guy.

Speaker 3 (12:49):
The good news, I agree the good news about I mean,
Melvin thought that Philip was getting ticked because Philip was
like a local kid, and and frankly, Phillip was getting
carries because he was the more productive of the two backs,
and he didn't put the ball on the ground. And
I mean, any of these backs, if they put the

(13:11):
ball on the ground, it's going to be hard to
get off the bench and find any sort of playing time.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
So yeah, I think. I mean JK today took.

Speaker 3 (13:23):
Reps when the first offense lined up. Just as they
were getting practiced going, the offensive line came over in
the huddle. Bow was the quarterback, Dobbins was the running back,
and they were blocking on the sled just getting and
then R J. Harvey was the second back, and then
it was Jaliel who was the third back. So I

(13:45):
don't know, not to make too much of that, but
I think the two backs, JK. Dobbins and RJ. Harvey,
I think those are going to be your two primary backs,
and if something else happens, it'll be because either they
didn't take advance each of the opportunity, or somebody gets nicked,
or one of these young guys really impresses so much

(14:07):
that they sort of begin to work their way up
the food chain a bit.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Speaking of RJ.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
Harvey in past pro there was a moment today with
Jonathan Cooper that is it is it a welcome to
the NFL rookie thing?

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Is that what that is?

Speaker 3 (14:24):
Are you talking about? On the far.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Field when he got pancakes?

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Well, I knew some running back like got airlifted out
of there, but I honestly I could not see whose
number that was.

Speaker 1 (14:37):
It was RJ.

Speaker 4 (14:37):
Harvey.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Really yeah, okay, and again that's a that's a matchup
right there.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
I mean, Jonathan Cooper is a full grown man, and.

Speaker 3 (14:46):
Cooper is a guy you want to walk down in
an alley with if you need to.

Speaker 2 (14:49):
One hundred percent. Sean Pitton was asked about r J.
Harvey in that moment. For example, I like how Sean,
who RJ is one of his guys, pivoted immediately to
well did you see the run that he had today?
And he to have a nice run, really good run.
So here's what Shawn said, for.

Speaker 8 (15:04):
Him, specifically the protections at the speed of the game.
He had a run today that was something, and you know,
we kind of turned and looked at each other. You know,
there's that learning curve for all of those young players,
but in some of it it happens a little quicker
maybe than than others. But but he's doing he's doing exceptional.

Speaker 4 (15:26):
He loves him, He.

Speaker 2 (15:27):
Loves Rjie Harvey. Yeah, you can always tell the guys
that he loves.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
So I think there's I think there's plenty to be
excited about. And I know it's early in camp, and
I know we haven't played preseason games, and but I
would just say, based on how Sean has talked about him,
that he's very, very high on r. J.

Speaker 4 (15:49):
Harvey.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
And I think the Blitz pick up thing, and I
think I think Sean is you know, he doesn't need
me to say I think he's right about this, but
I think he's right. I mean, there's two components for
a running back. You have to identify who you are
supposed to block on a particular play that is called.
And you might have two plays called in the huddle,

(16:10):
and one of them you might kill or can to
the second play. Then you have to if it's a pass,
you got to identify over like, okay, now who do
I have based on the front that these guys are in.
So you have to identify who you're going to block,
and then you have to have the proper technique to
go blocking. A lot of that is there's a toughness.
There's an innate sort of feistiness with backs because invariably,

(16:35):
for most backs, you're going to be giving up, You're
going to be moving up in weight class when you
try to block some of these outside linebackers. And at
times you're even required to step up into an A
or B gap and that could be one of the
inside linebackers, right. I mean, you don't want to make
for most backs, you don't want to make those backs
do that too many times. That's just not a favorable matchup.

(16:58):
But you have to and I think I think Carvey may
very well have this. You got to develop a toughness
and a feistiness and you, I mean you have to
to me, You've got to say, I'm gonna stick my
helmet like under your chin and I'm going to knock
your head back to where the back of your head
bounces off where your name plate is, so step step

(17:22):
on in here, and.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
That feels like something that he will learn from.

Speaker 3 (17:25):
JK yeah, JK, JK death lam his reputation.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
I think in the league one of the things that.

Speaker 3 (17:31):
He did well he was he was a good pass protector,
good blitz pick up guy. Now he's built low to
the ground and he's rooster strong too, and he's got
grown man's strength. RJ is still learning about this league,
but I really think he'll get there.

Speaker 2 (17:47):
We did hear from Courtland Sutton today and he had
a chance to tell us about being patient through his
contract talks and we're gonna have Ian Rapport join us
here about ten minutes.

Speaker 1 (17:55):
But here's what he said.

Speaker 5 (17:55):
I knew that things were going to work out the
way they were supposed to work out. I knew that
we had, you know, a great group upstairs that you know,
believes in me, and I have a great team, like
I said, and Jacob Presser and Dan Gresham that you know,
worked diligently, and the communication was amazing. You know that
there was there was never a time that we felt

(18:16):
like things weren't gonna.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
Be able to get done.

Speaker 5 (18:18):
You know, the communication was there and we were able
to keep moving forward, keep.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
Taking stuff forward.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
And you know, I had the utmost faith that something
was gonna get done.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
And you know, the.

Speaker 5 (18:29):
Last thing that I wanted to be was a distraction.
And you know, that's that's what I've done my entire career,
and that's what I wanted to continue to do.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Is not be a distraction.

Speaker 5 (18:39):
How can I do things the best way I possibly
can for this team and for this organization to continue
to stay in the light of progress and moving forward.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
And like I.

Speaker 5 (18:48):
Said, the communication was great, and I knew that something
was gonna ventually get done, and that's what.

Speaker 4 (18:53):
I have to hold step fast on.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
And honestly, that has been his approach from the very beginning.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Just as a sort of a credit to Corland Sutton,
and then I guess to simultaneous credit to the behind
the scenes front office moves here in the communication. As
he pointed out there, this could have been and as
we've seen other organizations handle it, a disaster at least
from a pr standpoint, but in fact it was quite
the opposite. Courland Sudden showed up every single day, he

(19:20):
was out there for individuals.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
You never heard him say a bad word about the organization.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Throughout the entire process, he felt good about it, the
front office felt good about it, and in the end,
as we saw the contract details yesterday, everybody really should
feel good at about it, especially the Broncos.

Speaker 4 (19:34):
Yeah, I think they.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
I mean, I think Corelan approached this in a really
smart way. As you said, he didn't make negative comments.
He didn't take the you're gonna pay me this or
else I'm not coming to camp, or you can just
trade me.

Speaker 4 (19:51):
I mean, a lot of players.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
Feel it necessary, for whatever the reason, to sort of
put their business out there.

Speaker 4 (19:59):
I mean sometimes, I.

Speaker 3 (20:00):
Mean teams will utilize certain members of the media to
get their message out there. Sometimes players feel a need
to respond that I can understand to a certain extent
on that. But I think I think Courtland played it
exactly right. I think it's a deal. It's a good
deal for him. It's certainly a good deal from a
financial standpoint for the team. And the good news is

(20:20):
you go out and have a couple of really good years.
I mean, who knows, you might you might be in
line for another renewed contracts.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
So I really he's a really good player.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
He's been consistent and he's handled himself so professionally off
the field that I think in this particular agreement that
counted for a little bit one hundred percent.

Speaker 2 (20:44):
Ian Rapport's going to join us next we all remember

the Hall of Fame game coming up on Thursday.

Speaker 1 (21:16):
And help us break it all down.

Speaker 1 (21:31):
Ian my friend, good afternoon. How are you what's going on?

Speaker 6 (21:34):
Are you guys doing.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
We're doing good and thanks thanks a lot for the time.
We were just talking yesterday about the deal the Courtland
Sutton signed. From a national perspective, anything anything about the
deal surprise you or people.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
That you talk to.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
You know, I thought, considering where things are, considering it's
been a really two year battle for Proland Sutton to
get the kind of money that he deserves, I thought
it was a really nice deal. Was it perfect? You know,
I don't know if it was perfect. I don't know
if it was perfect, but it was it was, you know,
considering how long it took and how much like haggling

(22:12):
back and forth, was probably the right deal. I think
the you know, ap wife of twenty three is good.
I think they guarantees he probably would have liked to
had more, but you know, for a third deal for
a receiver, I think it's it's pretty nice. I think
he did pretty well. And you know, I also would say,
the guys in the locker room, you know, notice this, right, Like,

(22:35):
they know what Courland Sutton is, they know how valuable
he is. You know, certainly they they will notice when
the team takes care of one of its guys, and
so I think that's one benefit to this deal for
the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Where do we currently sit with Terry McLaurin.

Speaker 6 (22:53):
Uh, Well, Terry McLaurin is still waiting. You know, I
think he'd like to be in the thirties. I think
he'd like to get where you know, Dk metcalf is
at thirty three million. To compare their stats, I think
they're comparable, same draft class, different kinds of receivers, and
Terry's a little bit older. So you know, that's kind
of that's kind of where things stand and why there's

(23:16):
maybe a little bit of a disconnect. You know, at
some point someone needs to make a decision and be like,
either this is the most we're going to get, take it,
or you know, maybe the team offers a little more
to get it done than they want, which you know,
a lot of times these contract extensions happen when both
sides compromise a little more than they had originally intended.

(23:37):
Or it could say, you know what, I'm just gonna
play it out and if you played out and have
a good season and in free agency, he's going to
go out and kill it. You know. So we're not
there yet. We're getting close to missing preseason games, which
at least is a little bit of a checkpoint for
the commanders.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
Hey, let's let's jump to a team the Broncos will
see this year, the Cincinnati Bengals will be coming to town.
And it doesn't seem like, at least from what you
hear and what you read, that maybe the Trey hendricks
Trey Hendrickson thing.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Is any closer than it was.

Speaker 3 (24:12):
Do you have any updated information or what's your sense
on what could happen most likely there?

Speaker 6 (24:20):
Yeah, I mean I don't get the sense that's really
close at all. Now. You know, these things can kind
of turn on a dime. And you know, I didn't
think the Schamar Stewart thing was close until both sides,
you know, let's just compromise. So maybe that happens with
Trey Hendrickson, and I think that would be really nice.
The overall numbers are okay. I think you'd get a
big raise this year. He'd be around Max Crosley based

(24:42):
on the extension. But that's not you know, that's not
what the fight over is over. The fight is over
guaranteed money and security pass this year, and I think
Trey doesn't want to get into next year and the
year after and just wonder about the spot on the
roster if something that happened. And I understand, like you,
you see Miles Garritt multiple years guaranteed, to see JJ
Watchet multiple years fully guaranteed. That's what the market is.

(25:05):
So I understand both sides. I think there's a pass
forward to compromise. It's just, you know, kind of like mclaurinick,
it's getting laid early.

Speaker 1 (25:13):
You know, Ian rapborre joining us.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
Let's go back to the AFC West here for a
second with Christian Wilkins at the Las Vegas Raiders. This story,
and I imagine we're going to continue to see it
take some interesting twists and turns because there's thirty five
million dollars in guaranteed money that the Raiders are trying
to avoid in his contract. But there's a report yesterday
that he kissed a player or tried to kiss a

(25:36):
player in the lock I mean, what's going on with
Christian Wilkins.

Speaker 6 (25:39):
Yeah, I mean there's all sorts of things you hear
out of the locker room about what happened. Until I
know for sure, I'll probably just wait on saying something
publicly because you know, when you have different accounts, when
you have some you know, sort of outlandish things being said.
I'm not there, I'm not in the locker room, and
you know, it would be easy for me to say,

(25:59):
you know, whatever it is, and Christian Wilkins or whoever
can defend themselves. Like, I think I'll just wait on that.
As far as the money goes, you know, I'll be
curious to hear. And I'm going out there in a
couple of days. Actually, I'm going out to Denver Mussel
see you guys. But I'll be curious to hear the
rationale for the team for avoiding his guarantees, because you
can't force a player to have surgery. He hasn't missed

(26:21):
any time as far as like practice time. You know,
failure to practice is one of the ways should take
away guarantees because that's the way to characterize the suspension.
But he hasn't really missed any He's just been rehabbing.
So like, I'll be curious to see what the rationale
is and like whether they actually can do it. There
is a lot of money at stake. I just don't
know that anything that happened in the locker room affects

(26:42):
this guaranteed money.

Speaker 2 (26:43):
Okay, good stuff. Ian we will see you tomorrow, my friends.
Thank you so much.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
All right, look forward to it. Take care, guys.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Thanks all right, he and Rappaport.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
Yeah, it's cool that they all kind of I think
was Diana Rossini was out yesterday, yeah, and that was fine.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
And I think La was there yep, yesterday and yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
So it's it's cool they all sort of take the
rounds and we'll have NFL network out there tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
It's cool.

Speaker 2 (27:05):
Yeah. The Christian Wilkins thing, I don't know if you've
seen any of that. So schefter is saying the report
about the kissing, trying to kiss a player in the
locker room, they're saying that's not the sole reason, but
it contributed to it.

Speaker 1 (27:18):
And then yeah to what Ian.

Speaker 2 (27:19):
Said there, the original point of this was he wasn't
willing to have the surgery that they want him to have,
and so they basically said, all right, well we'll see
when you see you're gonna you're going to be released,
and we're going to try to avoid your guarantees because
you won't do the thing we're trying to get you
to do.

Speaker 3 (27:35):
Well, as Ian said, you can't compel a player to
have surgery.

Speaker 4 (27:40):
Yeah, So if they're trying.

Speaker 3 (27:42):
To avoid the guarantees based on that, I think they're
they're they're in a difficult position.

Speaker 4 (27:47):
I will also say.

Speaker 3 (27:49):
That even if Christian Wilkins tried to kiss a teammate
on top of the head or whatever, whatever the report
he's saying, he did it in a sort of jestful way.

Speaker 4 (28:03):
You don't give up.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
On a guy that you signed only a year ago
and paid that kind of money.

Speaker 4 (28:10):
If you really thought he was doing a good job.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
And you loved him and in terms of his play
on the field. There's no way in the world anything
that is being reported would be significant or sufficient enough
for an NFL team to say, you know what, we're
just going to move on. So there has to be
whether it's locker room stuff or whether it's I mean,

(28:35):
I don't I don't have any idea what it is,
but I would almost guarantee you that there is much
more from the team standpoint for them to get to
that decision. If it feels like it has to be, Yeah,
you're not going to give up on a guy you
think you play. You just gave him a huge contract.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
That's right, And I understand that a lot of that
money allocated by a previous coaching regime, right, I mean,
certainly with Antonio Pearce.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
Now it's with Pete Carroll that doesn't matter. That's a
lot of money that it does not.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
Yeah, so I would I would say they must have
come to the conclusion, they being the raider, either coaching
staff and or management, that this guy is not the
right kind of guy in the locker room. In fact,
he's going to have a negative influence on some of
our younger players.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
And we don't think he's nearly as good.

Speaker 3 (29:25):
On the field as that contract that he was given,
uh would indicate. And so then if you start adding
these things together and now this latest little thing, whether
it happened or not, I think it's going to be interesting.
I think Ian brought up a good point. It will
be interesting to see how this thing plays out with
respect to what happens to the guaranteed money.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
Kocolorado dot Com wedvite to subscribe to the podcast, though
we never missed an episode of the show, so Ian's
interview an interview with JK.

Speaker 1 (29:59):
Dobbins.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
All our camp interviews have had some really good ones,
including with Nick Benito and Justin s Ternad Devon Veley,
all those up on demand right now, kwait Colorado dot com.
And yeah, the Corl is done thing that today he
was he was obviously beaming up there. He had this
really cool thing on bow Nix that I liked quite
a bit. I mean, I gotta imagine, like a lot

(30:21):
of the players that have decided to sign here, Dave
having the quarterback is so significant. I mean, you just can't.
You can't overlook. In fact, even Drake green Law yesterday
said the same thing. He's like, Hey, when you start
with the position group that you're going to be joining,
the defense, you're going to be joining, and then you
go immediately to Okay, what kind of quarterback do they have?
What opportunity does that provide us? So here was Corlin
today talking about bo Mose my.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
Guy, and I think I've said that since we picked
him up last year. But you know, being able to
have the conversations that I've had with him throughout the
offseason and so far throughout the throughout training camp, the
dudes' mindset, he was already light years ahead of where
anybody expected rookie quarterback to be last year. But to
have the conversations that we're having together already, and the

(31:04):
things that he sees and the things that are already
possible through the first what nine days of camp, I
think we've had so far.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
Man, it's promising.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
And you know, I look forward to continue to watch
him grow, Katina, watch his leadership grow, Katina, to watch
his development at the quarterback position grow.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
And you know, it's a special guy on and off
the field.

Speaker 5 (31:25):
And I tell him all the time, even beyond football,
he's a special dude. The way that he thinks, the
way that he carries himself, the way that he leads,
He's a special guy. And so to be able to
share the locker room with him, share the field with
him as a special a special thing. And I just
look forward to, you know, what's what's ahead and us
continuing to build what we can here.

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Yeah, I gotta imagine for a guy to play with
that many quarterbacks, he's got to be pretty amped, Yeah,
for sure.

Speaker 3 (31:50):
And I think you know the guys you just talked about, they,
I mean, you want to go to if you're a
free agent, you want to go to a team that
you have a chance to win. And no team in
this league has chances to win unless you have that
one spot with a guy in it that is capable
of doing a lot of different things, and I think

(32:10):
the Broncos feel like and I think most people would
agree that they have that guy
