Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ferguson.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
We got Rockies baseball coming up here at five thirty
a little earlier tonight's looking forward to that Rocky's home
against the Pirates. Let's get back on track. I'm excited
about it again. Antonio sends a tele taken on Andrew Khini.
We'll see what what do we we are picking that game,
so I won't to ask early. We forgot because of
the way things sort of shook out last night as
(00:22):
we were doing the show, and you mentioned we had
Scotty in the last segment, so we didn't get a
chance to do Show Me the Money. But I think
it ultimately worked out in your favor.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Nicel.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Oh well, we didn't end up putting the picks in
for Show Me the Money?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Oh well, I would have split. Okay, Yeah, I took the.
Speaker 4 (00:42):
Chargers, But I gotta say this watching that game, the
last part of the game, my guy with the interception,
oh yeah, and return of about I don't know fifty yards.
That was Miles purchase at Cherry Creek High School.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Cool.
Speaker 5 (00:58):
Love that kid.
Speaker 4 (01:00):
He's a colleague, he signed as a college free agent.
He's just an old school ballplayer, and I you know what,
I am not gonna be shocked if he makes the
Chargers team.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
That's very cool. Yeah, And that's those games. And that's
why you and I, I know Nick the same way.
That's why we love the preseason because oftentimes, yeah, of
course the regular season is is where a lot of
the action is and a lot of people are know
those names. But in the preseason, especially if you've been
following these players or in your case, Dave, I mean
you know those players. I'm sure you were a beaming
last night. Yeah, absolutely, yeah, absolutely, that's cool. So we
(01:37):
got Rockies Baseball. We'll get to show me the money
coming up here in just a matter of moments, so
very quickly before we hear from Malcolm Roach, who responded
to Marvin MIM's trash talk. Here was a little bit
of my conversation with Jatte Baron. I asked him about
some of the vets he plays within the secondary.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Don't mind the question, I just brought the answer here.
Speaker 6 (01:55):
I was good just to keep going. It's gonna be days,
it's gonna be tough. It's gonna be days. I'd be good,
but just keep stacking. And then I spoke my uncle yesterday.
He told me it's It's like, it's the process. You're
gonna You're gonna grow your grinding blind right now. You
may not see the reward yet, but just just keep going,
just keep going. You might not see the progress, but
(02:15):
it's coming and it's there. You just can't see it,
but it's there. So, Uh, the guys on the team,
they just keep building me, just keep pushing me do better.
You know, we're just communicating on the field. I'm learning
how to communicate with different guys on the field.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
So it's good for me.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Very impressed with John A.
Speaker 6 (02:30):
Barron.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
Somebody was asking me earlier about him and saying, well,
I heard he's he isn't really showing up.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Out it training camp, and it's like, I don't. I
don't say that. I think he's actually in the right position.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Just the splash plays haven't quite been there yet, Nick, Yeah, And.
Speaker 7 (02:45):
It's unfortunate because a lot of individuals are out there,
you know, in the media and local media and national
media watching practice, and every play is not gonna be
a spat splash play. It is are you in the
right position to make it play? And obviously everyone wants
a sag, but batting a ball down that that's great.
Everyone wants an interception, but being in place to get
(03:08):
that put the push that offense to maybe third down
or fourth down. To me, those are really key plays.
And Jaday Barron has done a great job so far
as a young guy based on a lot of things
that they're throwing at him. Right, And it's really hard
when you come into the organization where you are mid
(03:29):
to lower level. God, but when you are the first
round draft choice, everyone is watching you and if they're
critiquing everything you do like it's through a microscope. But
he's doing a great job. I can't wait to watch
him get to his first game, him make his first play,
because if you go back and watch any of jj
(03:50):
Jaday Baron's college tape, he's a playmaker. That's one of
the reasons that he was selected because the Broncos are
trying to get or steal more possessions for their offense.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
What have you noticed was Joddy Barron out there, Dave.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
I think it's I mean, I think it's early in camp. Honestly,
I've not been disappointed. Very very good athlete. We knew that.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
I mean, he's getting reps with the ones.
Speaker 4 (04:21):
Jaddy Barron is going to be a guy that's going
to be on the field.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
He's going to have to he's going to have.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
To play himself out of I think the mix being
on the field.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
And I don't know if he's going to be the starter,
but he's going to be on the field.
Speaker 4 (04:35):
I think in a variety of ways, I agree with Nick.
I think one of the things that having a little
bit of connection to the University of Texas program because
that player there who's now with the Titans, really smart player.
That staff felt like his IQ was off the charts,
(04:55):
and you know those type accolades nor like college coaching
staff don't don't throw around. So they played him outside,
played him inside. I'm excited about what he's going to
bring to this defense.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Completely agree.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
There's a moment today when they were unning two minute
near the end of practice and he was out there with.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
The first team.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yep, did you remember where bon Nicks was scrambling out
to the right, and I just it's kind of an
underrated moment. But instead of giving Nicks ground to maybe
get some yardage, he sealed him and he knew he
had help behind him.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
He knew there was nothing there for Bonnicks. To get
to and so instead of.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Hey, I'm gonna I'm gonna give ground and give him
a you know, some space here because I don't know
what's going on behind me, he sealed that where Nick's
had only option was to run out of bounds.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
Yeah, I think I think how I would describe that
play because I was standing by you at that time.
He he just took the proper angle, yeah, right, and
he took an angle. He he he kept his outside
arm free. He was fighting off a blocker with his
inside arm. But he knew that that quarterback really doesn't
(06:04):
want to cut up inside because there's a lot of
big people that are in a big hurry that are
looking for the ball that he has. So that's just again,
that's just a smart play understanding the leverage and knowing
that quarterback has to come to me, he's got to
try to get outside of me.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
So heads up play there, and I think he's made
a lot of those so far. All right, So Malcolm
Roach spoke with the media today. This was a lot
of fun. So if you forgot here is what Marvin Mims.
This was after the Wednesday practice. That was a lot
of chirping, especially from the defense. Marvin Mins spoke with
the media. Our own Anthony Rodd asked Marvin Mims about
the defense making a lot of noise, and here's what
(06:46):
Marvin said.
Speaker 8 (06:47):
Yeah, I mean it's just Malcolm Roach. I mean, sitting
next to him in the locker room. Guy didn't shut up.
He's talking craft to receivers. It's like, dude, like, you're fat, guy, Like,
worry about that.
Speaker 5 (06:58):
Leave me alone.
Speaker 8 (06:59):
But uh, you know, we're always going back and forth
with him. It's just a whole other deal.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
I get you. But really quick shout out to Marvin.
He's like, he's okay, really funny.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
He's very serious sometimes but he's and he's got an
unbelievably dry sense of humor, but he is really funny.
And so the fact that those two have a locker
next to each other, I got that. That's some of
the funniest banter in the locker room right now.
Speaker 7 (07:21):
I would have to say that that was strategic, sure,
kind of you know, for the coaches to put those
two together. Like when you meet Marvin, Marvin seems to
be a very shy guy, but if you get to
know him, like you said, he has a definitely has
a dry sense of humor. But I love the fact
that these guys are going after it inside the locker room.
(07:41):
It reminded me of being here with Keith Burns, and
Keith Burns was just kind of the guy that made
everything so much easier, even in those up types of situations.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
So I love this. This is great for the locker room.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Before I play mar Malcolm, did you did you have
guys in the locker room?
Speaker 3 (08:00):
Yeah? Oh, I'm sure, Oh yeah, for sure.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
Yeah, I mean there were, I mean defensive guys and
offensive guys. Normally now, defensive guys, skill position guys tend
to yap a little bit more right, I was one
of them. I mean wide receivers. Wide receivers and DB's
normally in the locker room, they're going to be talking
(08:23):
trash all the time. Then you get a linebacker in it,
now normally speaking is not a wide receiver and a
defensive lineman. But I think Malcolm Roache has such a
great sense of humor. I mean, you'll play what he
what His response.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
Was, it's great.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, So here's here's He's actually asked two questions about it,
but this was the first one. Responding specifically, and again
Anthony rot out there asking him.
Speaker 1 (08:46):
First question out of the gates. Okay, well here's what
Marvin Mims said. He called you.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Fat, and he said you talk a lot of trash.
So here's what Malcolm said in response.
Speaker 9 (08:54):
Yeah, I think I'm really worry about nineteen, bro.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
I see him every day the locker, right A boy
my he talked.
Speaker 9 (09:02):
Oh yeah, I think I saw he really talked more
than me. But I ain't worry about Marvel Marvin though.
He not about to put that ball back across the middle.
That's all I really have to say on that. And
wal look like a mosquito, bro, you need to worry
about that.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
I could lose his way. He can't change the looks.
You feel what I'm saying, Like.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I lose this weight, he can't change those looks so.
Speaker 1 (09:27):
Good like a mosquito.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
He did get crushed today by JFM very first play
of practice.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
That he that he pitched his helmet down on the
ground about from one to ten at about a five
and a half or six like that.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
I mean, listen, I mean it was.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
He didn't wrap him up, He just he just sort
of what I would call button him to the turf.
But often some guys, especially wide receivers, they're not they're
not used to getting hit, and you don't like getting
hit in practic.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Now, defensive guys.
Speaker 4 (10:01):
You know what they got through defensive coaches saying, hey,
this is not too head of tag. I don't want
to see you just touched the guy. You got to
butt him up right. And and I think Marvin it
was on a little it wasn't a jet sweep. It
was like a little reverse action. And I don't think
Marvin saw the defender.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
JFM, Yeah, John FRANKL. Myers is the one who I think.
Speaker 7 (10:25):
I don't.
Speaker 4 (10:25):
I don't think it was it was it was oh gosh,
it was an inside linebacker.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Oh so was it Lavelle Bailey? No, Justin Strnad, Yeah, okay.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
It Justin Strnad.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
I think I think when Marvin was running to the left,
there was some there was some cloudy stuff outside. He
put his left foot in the ground and started up
and Straanad was coming from the inside. I don't think
he saw him to the last minute, and so he
you know, he knocked him head over tea kettle.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
Probably didn't probably didn't like it. See sometimes those were received.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Here, I go what just because trying to help your cause,
he's speaking the truth.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Because he's speaking the truth, I know, I go ahead
and say what she goes first and foremost.
Speaker 7 (11:13):
I'm a grown ass man, right, so I appreciate you're
trying to protect me. But sometimes those wide receivers don't
want that foul. Now, it all depends on who that
guy is, right, Like certain wide receivers they have about
that life, right they they're they're coming to dig you
out because that is what they do.
Speaker 4 (11:32):
Like and I love Marvin Mims. Let me just interject,
he is not that guy. No, Now, Marvin Mims a
score and then moonwalk on your ass in the end zone.
He's that guy. He's talented as an offensive guy. But
if it came down to like, okay, you about this,
is this.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
How you want it to be? Just like I could
tell you.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Like Dave Logo was about that life, by the way,
had to be.
Speaker 4 (11:58):
I had to be survive in the league for ten
exactly like Randy Moss not about that life.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
Johnson not about that life not so much.
Speaker 7 (12:06):
But t O, yes, he's not all the way about it,
but he'll dig you out.
Speaker 3 (12:17):
But he is about that life.
Speaker 7 (12:22):
Now some people will say that maybe hines Ward was,
but if you ask.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
The fenders around the league, they will tell you no.
Speaker 7 (12:30):
And I know it sounds wild because all the knockouts,
but that's a guy that will hit.
Speaker 3 (12:34):
You when you're not looking. See, he's not about being
a grown ass man.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
See, there were guys that I would say from a
receiver standpoint that I'd say the same thing about safeties.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
There were guys that were about that. Like when you played.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
I probably played against Jack Tatum and the Raiders, I
don't know three or four times in my career. Hey listen,
I'm from film study. I knew that when I lined
up at X I had I was going to peek
in and you better find it, and I was going
to see where number thirty two would because he would
hit you in the face when you're looking. George Atkinson,
(13:06):
who was still alive, And I would say, if George
was sitting here, George wanted to be that tough guy.
But George, George hit you in the back of the head.
I didn't have respect and nearly the respect for Atkinson
that I did for Tatum. Tatum was the real thing.
I mean, hey, there was no joking around when you
(13:27):
played the Raiders and Jack Tatum, you had to you
had to be on your you had to be on point.
Speaker 7 (13:33):
Yes, there were three three guys I watched, you know,
as a young kid watched some of the throwback film.
Jack Tatum was one of them. Chuck Cecie was one,
and Ronnie was the other.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
They were all hitters. Those those are.
Speaker 7 (13:48):
The guys who I watched and I was like, yeah,
they allow you to do that.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
I want to play that position, Yes, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
So this was a really cool answer for Malcolm Roach
because he who's asked about why he talks so much trash.
It's interesting, right, And I'll let him explain why this
is great.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
I mean, I'm from Louisiana, where we talk, so that's
what we do.
Speaker 9 (14:15):
If you ever go to a high school game in Louisiana,
you will see like people talk, man, and that's just
the way we compete. But I also feel like you
can't just be talking and you ain't really doing nothing.
Speaker 5 (14:28):
I feel like, Okay, if I'm gonna be talking to
I gotta be.
Speaker 9 (14:31):
Doing so I gotta be producing, like even if I'm
just doing my job right, But it's also you will
see people having a down day and man, how you doing,
and everybody always think it is trashed. Sometimes it's really
just tall. I tell j Mac every day, Man, you're
the best in the bedding.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Bro.
Speaker 9 (14:44):
You gotta believe it. I tell pass certain every day. Bro,
you the best. We know you the best. Every day.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Bro. We leaning on you. We know what you bring
to take.
Speaker 9 (14:53):
Johnathan Cooper, Nick Benito, Man, Like, it's not about just
talking to the other office. I talk to the office there,
Quinn minus you the best, Bro, I'm going against the best,
And it's like, yeah we go talkie competitive, you gotta
have some type of ego or selfishness to lastness lead because.
Speaker 5 (15:10):
Everybody good, I want to say, and yeah, we go talk.
Speaker 9 (15:13):
Man, that's the game we played me just like I
got so hacked when JK talked back to me. I'm like, yes, bro,
so finally we got some action going on. And like
you've seen from that practice, that was one of the
funnest practice I've ever been a part of in my life.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
And I just feel like it's something contagious throughout.
Speaker 9 (15:30):
The team and as we keep building this culture is
what we're trying to be I feel like it could
be something special.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
It's funny he said that I was standing by you today.
I think when I said, and I believe this, having
been in every practice minus one.
Speaker 3 (15:46):
JK.
Speaker 4 (15:46):
Dobbins has become the voice of the offense. Was the
thing you said, yep, right, ye, I didn't know the
Malcolm Roach had said that.
Speaker 3 (15:56):
But JK.
Speaker 4 (15:57):
Dobbins has taken and maybe it's just natural personality whatever,
but he has taken it upon himself to say, hey man,
it's time to get going or to talk or I
love the juice that he has brought to the Broncos offense.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
You know, Loki, you know being here with coach Kubiak,
because when you talk to coach Koop, he seemed like
a mild manner type of even kill guy trash talker,
especially well, I mean he used to talk trash to
me on Fridays, like we're coming after your you know
(16:36):
what on Friday, and I'm like, you know, keep it coming.
But these are the things that you want to know
that you're building the right culture. When you were constantly
talking about competition, no matter what whatever you're doing, competition
has to be of the utmost priority. And that's what
(16:57):
we're saying, and I'm hoping that now with every that's
happened collectively for this team, they cannot only get to
a playoff game, but they can win a playoff game.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
What I liked about Malcolm Roach there, and by the way,
I completely agree with what Dave said there about JK.
Dobbins when the second team and he wasn't actually even
in the play, when the second team was having their
issues with the false starts and the pre snap penalties,
he was animated, Dave, You remember he was.
Speaker 3 (17:23):
He was shy Dobbins. The only voice I heard that
was letting him have it.
Speaker 1 (17:27):
Yes, and he wasn't even in the play.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
Yep, He's just out there.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
But again, you've got to believe that Sean Payton, to
a certain extent, he appreciates that, right. I mean, he's listen,
he's trying to coach, but he appreciates a player, especially
if that player like that saying guys, this is unacceptable.
And he was out there, very very animated about it.
Speaker 7 (17:43):
Okay, Does that say anything else? Not just the fact
of J. K. Dobbins stepping up to the play showing
his veteran leadership.
Speaker 3 (17:48):
Does that say anything about the.
Speaker 7 (17:50):
Other guys who are on the offense and their lack
of leadership in that particular way.
Speaker 3 (17:56):
Good yep.
Speaker 4 (17:58):
I mean I don't know for sure because I'm not
in that locker room, and I don't I don't want
to label label it like definitively because I don't know,
But I think my answer would be it could.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Yes, he's got a personality. I mean I had a
chance to chat with him earlier this week, and there
there is a there's an approachability to him.
Speaker 3 (18:18):
But there's to tell Nick what your question was to
JK Dowmons, You.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
Mean to no, Oh my gosh, yeah that was you
had one to Joday too.
Speaker 7 (18:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
I screwed up that one.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
But the one to JK. All right, I actually have
it right here go Yeah, I have right here here
you go play. I'll play his hands. I didn't put
his question in there. I go ahead and put his answer,
but give us the question, don't the clock.
Speaker 1 (18:44):
I say it, Well, we do have rockney man. I
just say so, okay, so this is the thing.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
So I I felt pretty clever, and I asked j
K Dave Dave Killer for this. I asked Jake Kay Dobbins.
I said What's what's RJ. Harvey looking like? And then
I said, simultaneously, I thought he understood. He came here
with the idea that he was going to be in
a running back by committee? And I said, what's that like?
Speaker 3 (19:11):
Knowing that?
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Is there a sense of relief by the fact that
you're coming here in the midst of a running back
by command?
Speaker 4 (19:17):
And I killed him for the question before I heard
jk's response.
Speaker 1 (19:20):
Before I even played a second of the sound. He
was like, what were you thinking?
Speaker 3 (19:25):
We'll go ahead and playton?
Speaker 1 (19:26):
But this is what JK said.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
I mean, I wouldn't I would to call it a
running back to the committee?
Speaker 9 (19:34):
Okay, but it like RJ is really good, Like I
think he's willing to learn, he wants to be really good,
and he has a good talent.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
You know.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I think it's going to be a good year for
the for the running back room. As far as the.
Speaker 8 (19:48):
Running back by a committing thing, I don't know how
that goes, Okay.
Speaker 3 (19:51):
I think, yeah, I don't know how they go.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
Well, I guess as a starting running back and you've
been a starting running.
Speaker 3 (19:56):
Back that hey, I want the ball, right?
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Is that the mindset?
Speaker 7 (19:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (19:59):
I mean yeah, every time. Yeah, I think I'll run
it back. Well, the ball like twenty five times a game.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
All right, well, let's give you the ball twenty five.
Speaker 1 (20:07):
Times a game.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Let's do that.
Speaker 9 (20:08):
If I stay healthy, you'll see it would be nice.
Speaker 3 (20:13):
There's no running back by committee. Give me the damn ball.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
Love.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
I loved it, but he was like.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
Uh, yeah, man, he doesn't look at it. I guarantee
you as a running back by committee. And I was
struck and said, the day we played this, the other
running back you mentioned was r J Harvey. He basically said, hey, bro,
(20:39):
it's going to be me and RJ. So committee this.
Speaker 7 (20:44):
He also said it's going to be a good year
for the running backs, yes, but only mentioned it to guy.
Speaker 1 (20:51):
And it's even better on the video because we have
video of him doing this.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Oh yeah, And he like didn't even make eye contact
and be like, oh.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
Yeah, that was a that look was like check my resume. Basically,
you better ask somebody, right, I don't know. I don't
know who this dude is. And I'm not trying to
call him out here, but I mean, come on with this.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
I've they drafted r J in the second round and
then they brought J.
Speaker 3 (21:20):
kN as you mentioned, he mentioned RJ right. He just
told you there's no running back, no running back committee
this year. No, there's not
