Speaker 1 (00:00):
We have Ian Rappaport, our NFL Network insider, joining us
at the top of the hour.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
We'll get his thoughts on some of the news around
the league.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
One thing that was popping up teams are starting to
put out their first unofficial I guess, unofficial death charts.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
The Colts.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
One was making the rounds this morning because you have
an or at starting quarterback and we're seeing Travis Hunter
here with the Jacksonville Jaguar starting wide receiver and second
team cornerback there for Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
That's kind of cool.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
I mean, once again, you knew that if you're in
trade up like Jacksonville did you knew there was an
anticipation or hope that they might be able to play
him both ways?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
But I don't.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I guess it's the first time on my imagination to
see it actually on a depth chart, to see a
guy in two specific positions on two different sides of
the ball.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Cool. We haven't seen anybody like Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Yeah, I mean, that's fascinating as far as it because
it's interesting to me. You know, there were a handful
of teams that saw him as a wide receiver first.
You know, a lot of team a lot of teams
saw them at the corner first that he's said the second,
and I wonder what that that spread of plays is
going to wind up being, you know, because you'd think
you'd need to be more of a full time in
the defensive, you know, if you're going to be a

(01:19):
part of the starting defense. But we've seen people go
eventually and Edubun played corner for a while. We saw
a couple of Patriots receivers go over.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Then do that.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
I think the I think, to me, this is more
a testament to Travis's football smarts than it is to
the uh, miraculous endurance levels that people tend to tout
all the time. I mean, yeah, I think this is
a miraculous endurance thing to be able to play that
many plays and all that kind of stuff. But she
got to be pretty savvy to memorize all that stuff,
especially at the NFL level, to memorize a playbook like that,

(01:46):
know what you're doing as a receiver and know what
you're doing as a corner at the same time, and
not getting the full benefit of all those meetings.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
I agree.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
I think that Jacksonville has figured we're going to score
some points this year. And he's going to be I
would think, their best receiver, and you can create you
can create a little bit of defensive packages for him
nickel or dime or what have you.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
So but I think it's it's it's gonna be.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Fun to see how many how many actual snaps, like
in week one or two or three or four, how
many snaps does Travis Hunter play?

Speaker 2 (02:24):
The other think that's kind of remarkable to me.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
And coaches do this, and they did this even for
the most part on their depth chart most of the time.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Kashawn did this last.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Year where if it's a rookie, your third team or
behind right, you've got to earn it. But here's Travis
Hunter starting wide receiver opposite Brian Thomas junior Diamond Brown.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
Well, I mean you look at the other receivers they have,
and that's the other part of this. I mean, Josh
Sephus isn't taken anybody's jobs, and the Washington Trammel.

Speaker 2 (02:53):
I'm not trying to make the case for any of
those other guys.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
But even last year when they put when Sean put
Boenix's QB three in the first depth chart, We're like,
come on, now, like that that's not right, that doesn't
feel right.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
We're here a practice that doesn't look right. Should have
been too. But yeah, I mean still you make them it,
make them it.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
Plus the coaches rarely put the media department puts those
things together anyway.

Speaker 4 (03:15):
Well, I think the media department puts them together with
the coaches. I guarantee you here and put yeah. I
would input would not be the word yeah. I would
say that the coaching staff and the coach has a
lot to say about what the media department puts on

(03:36):
the depth chart.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I'm trying to imagine if when this officially comes out,
In other.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Words, the head coach gives the media department, here's the
depth chart.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
But also you're claiming responsibility on this, so I don't
have to ask the questions about it.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Right, So, I mean it's gonna come out this week.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
I can't even imagine what would be viewed as a
quote unquote surprise this year, Like this is one of
those years where it feels like we have a pretty
good idea.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
So who other than Courtland Sutton in your mind would
be the depth chart starting receiver.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
If you're gonna go three dep it'll be.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Yeah, and with court and then Troy Franklin is probably
the next one, and then Pat Bryan, then Trent Sherfield.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Now Sherfield gets special team snap too, But what's what's gotta.

Speaker 4 (04:26):
I am a I mean, you guys know this to
be true. I am a big Devon.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Vley fan, vice president of the fan club.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Yes, secretary, I handle the books. I'm not sure he's right.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Now, certainly been the snap distribution in the last three
four days. I'll say that I just and I have
no way to other than just what my eyes tell me.

Speaker 4 (04:52):
And Sean when I do his pregame show, if he
catches one of this, he may say, what what do
you what are you doing? You're like, You're gonna be
like all all the rest of them. I'm gonna plant
this now. Yeah, but I just watch I watched him run.
I'm just not sure that he's one hundred person.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
I agree with that. That's that's what I mean.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
I agree with that he's If he's not one hundred percent,
then I think there's a chance that he might not
hold that slot on the depth chart.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I I would agree with that, and I would still
say when the season starts, he will be No, I'm.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Not saying, right now, what's the depth chart look like?
Right now?

Speaker 3 (05:30):
I mean, based on the snaps the last three days,
I would say it's I mean, it's him and Mims
and Sutton getting all the first team Troy Franklin gets
a handful of them, but it's those three guys getting
the in the first team snaps.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
I could see scenario where I'm allowed to say that, Well,
probably not. You're going to be getting the text pretty
another email, another email.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
I think Troy Franklin has a chance to push a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
And but if he's biting snaps, he's not biting from Mele,
He's biting from Mims, Right, Yeah, I mean theoretically yes,
But I I agree with Ryan here.

Speaker 4 (06:08):
I think I think Franklin could factor in. I think
Franklin is going to have to play himself out of
where the coaches think of him right now. As like,
you know what, that guy's put on some weight. He
seems like he's he's a little bit different. He sure
can run. I know he had a big drop Saturday.

(06:30):
But to me, they've got to they've got to figure
out how to incorporate him at a more significant rate
in what they're trying to do offensively. I say that,
and the qualifier is, look, if he drops the ball,
if he doesn't produce, well, then he's not going to
be in there.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I understand how that goes. I was talking about any
of that drop ons. I was talking about Saturday and they.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Had drop again because I mean his year's camp is
I mean, it had to be better. Last year's camp
for him was one of the worst camps I've ever
seen for all. I mean, he was just he looked lost,
He had no confidence in himself. He couldn't catch any
shout of that. Oh my goodness, John multiple John mort
was giving him the business.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
I mean, just like, unabashedly in front of everybody. I
like how you're adding qualifiers. Now, I feel like I've
ripped off on you a little bit.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Yeah, I think I'm thinking I want to rethink that position.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
At the Ryan Edwards School of Goalpost Moving, you too
can add qualifiers.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
I think he should push now, I should I say
all that with this qualifier, here you go, that was beautiful. Well,
when we come back, maybe we'll look at another position
group that could have a surprise, could have a surprise.
And the first unofficial depth chart because I know Sean
is excited that we were talking about the chart. I

(07:45):
imagine the first unofficial depth chart, while Joe Flacco top
that depth chart and Kenny Pickett, and then imagine everybody else.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I talked to you over
there in Cleveland or whatever. Joe is clearly the quarterback
right now, and maybe by virtue of being the other
one that's healthy at this point. Dylan Gabriel's got an injury.
Chadors had alarm soreness. He was back in practice today.
Kenny Pickett's got an issue and he I don't even
think he's gonna be there this year.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
So okay, Kenny Pikett, Yeah, don't think he'll be there.
Super Bowl champion Kenny Pickett, Yeah, sure, they'll always have.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
That Super Bowl champion. You always that. Yeah. Yeah. It's
a lot of hardware there they've got up there in Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Yeah, none of it belongs to now, you know, Ring
of Fame or sugar Stammers.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Anyways, who did you say.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
I killed Ben Some of the best Shane Gillis jokes
at the SPS or whatever.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Ring a Famer sure standers.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, uh So we were talking about the unofficial depth chart.
Hasn't come out for the Broncos just yet, but if
there was gonna be one position group that might be
a little bit surprised. I do wonder if that's gonna
be running back. And part of that is wondering because, well,
first of all, RJ. Harvey's a rookie, so maybe he's
like third or fourth team.

Speaker 4 (09:09):
You don't really believe that based on what your eyes
have told you in all the practice.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
That's not what's happening out there in the field. It's
just what the depth chart will say, is that it'll
be JK. Dobbins like an Adric estimate, maybe even like
Blake Watson in there.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Before we get to absolute. Yeah, J. Harvey will be
second team.

Speaker 4 (09:30):
Absolutely a rookie, Absolutely, he's been. He's been getting second
and first team reps.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
You don't do steaks, so I gotta I'll bet you
a salad that uh R J. Harvey's RB two on
the depth chart is what we've been seeing, Caesar, whatever
kind you want. I don't know which one's the best,
the gross, grandiose salad.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
Why Why would I absolutely bet anything on a.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Mad Greens?

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Wow, we're living or wherever, or we could just go
to the backyard and grays whatever.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Yeah, that's what it is. Yeah, gotta be running back
to would be JK. Dobbins, R. J. Harvey, and then
Cheliam mcloffin third. Okay, yeah, Jalim mclafflin. That's the other
the one that would be in there.

Speaker 1 (10:14):
Is there any other Peci group that, I mean, really
you could picture in your mind, Dave, that might be
a surprise because at this point we feel pretty good
about what the wide receiver, running back room, offensive line.
Maybe you decide to keep a developmental guy in there.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
I can't. I just can't even think of a position
group that I would be surprised by.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
I mean, the tight end is probably not gonna have
Hall of Famers Lucas Croll and Rob Gronkowski on it.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
But you know, Lucas Croll, you don't think he'll be
in the top four. I don't think he makes the team.

Speaker 4 (10:41):
Well that, by the way, a shot out to of
one of our friends. I really don't put a lot
of stock in in the early depth chart, tell you
the truth. I mean, I'm anxious to see what they
they play like Saturday. I think I haven't been told.
I think you'll see the starters go. My guess is

(11:05):
maybe a little bit longer than we might suspect quarter
and a half, maybe until you I mean, I know
he wants to end it. I would surmise he wants
to end the offenses night on a good positive, maybe
point scoring drive.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
But I think he's going to play guys.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
I'd heard two series and then evaluate like if they've scored,
then if not, then they'll keep going until they get
those two scores.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Maybe.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Well, And it was funny Sean did say today because
he was asked about the plan for the joint practice
with the forty nine ers, and he made some kind
of quip about people keep saying that we're going to
practice her a certain way and maybe I won't play guys.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
That's not happening. I'm playing guys.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
So I thought that was pretty funny that he must
have heard somewhere or read somewhere out there that they
were like, oh, well, Sean probably has a plan to
practice as starters but not play them in the game,
And that's really not how Sean does it. Now the
third preseason game, maybe that's gonna be a different conversation,
but at least for this first one, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:01):
This isn't Nate Hackett.

Speaker 3 (12:02):
No starters are practicing or playing during the preseason.

Speaker 4 (12:05):
Yeah, it's fairness, though to our man, Nate, I mean
Sean McVay did the same thing the entire Trading camp
last year.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
I think he has built up the credibility to do well.
You're right.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
With all due respect to everyone involved here, including one
head coach who you know could drink me up to
the table and show up four hours later for an
interview fresh as.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
A daisy, I think Sean McVay has the credibility there.

Speaker 4 (12:30):
I'm not talking about his credibility, but I'm saying we're
giving hack agree for doing exactly what Sean McVay did
in Trading camp and in Los Angeles fair.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
That is fair.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
You know, I'm gonna be interested on the side note
for a moment on the Death char where Johnny Baron's
gonna end up being plugged in because, as you said,
what we're seeing out there is he get in time
with the ones and twos, right, I mean he won't.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Will he be in front of Jake Kwon McMillan, for example, Yeah,
I mean you have to mean we don't.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
But but again, if you're going by what is typically
that you give it to Vets as the guy, especially
in that first depth chart, and you make the rookie
continue to earn it.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
But what we've seen out there is.

Speaker 3 (13:12):
If we know, you know, you know, Jaday Baron is
the starting nickel at this point unless he plays his
way out of it.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
Oh, he had a great play today basically into the
drive for the first team.

Speaker 2 (13:22):
That was great.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
He's he's gonna be when he's up to speed and
everything is working the way it's supposed to work.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
VJ is gonna have such a good time with him.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
All right, So let's continue with this because I don't
think that's the corner surprise. I think you know, because
you have one, two, three, I think the fourth corner
is Abram's drain. Then it's mcmillion who's CV six is
that mathis by default, let's talk about that on the
other side.

Speaker 2 (13:46):
We'll get to it next.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
A lot of people sort of chiming in here on
the text line of what positions they think might be
a bit of a surprise. When then we get to
that first depth chart, I think corner is an interesting one.
I'd say, right by default, this very first one might
be Tomory Mathis.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
I know Reecee Taylor.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Somebody's asking about Reese Taylor here on the text line.
I just I don't know if that's that's the direction
that would go.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Yeah, I haven't seen. I mean, you know who the
top five are? Is the guy whoever's after that? Which
last year was the special team spot for Travon Smith.
I don't know who the six guy is on this
on the steps, so you know who the top five are.
But after that, I mean, is it you know, is
it Mathis, is it Reeese Taylor? They're all split in
time with the twos and threes.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (14:27):
I think it will come down to who plays special
teams better, who gives you know, who gives them flexibility
because you want your special teams. Guys are normally defensive players,
right linebackers, safeties, corners. They make up the majority of
your special teams.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
So we have to get you get a stud receiver
out there playing like that, A you know, a young
Dave Logan or a Steve Largent or a I was
the punt gunner.

Speaker 2 (14:57):
I'm like, mean the guy covering.

Speaker 4 (15:04):
I've never done that in my live return punts but
I'd never done that.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
Now, Ryan, you've never lived.

Speaker 4 (15:12):
Until you've gone, until you've gone through a training camp
and been the punt gunner, and I might say the
largest punt gunner I think in the history of the
NFL to where and they could cut at that point
in the league. I mean, it was like hand to
hand combat. It's like, I mean, I'm never gonna I

(15:32):
did it the whole year.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
My favorite was at stage, didn't you catch your first
touchdown and then you're supposed to be back out there first.

Speaker 4 (15:38):
I caught my first touchdown in preseason. Yeah, so I
was on the kickoff coverage team, so I was celebrating.
Caught it at the Old Vet against the Eagles. I'm thinking, hey,
this is pretty good. I got everybody congratulate me, and
you don't keep the ball. It's a preseason game, but
you know, hey, nice cats, rook I mean you're sitting there.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
In the gate or anything.

Speaker 4 (15:56):
And then Al, the special teams coach came back and
he was really really he was rarely in a good
mood and he had a big smile on his face.
I'm thinking, man, this is this is okay because he's
chewed my ass like a lot over the first.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Two weeks of camp.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
He goes Man, nice catch, I said, appreciate it, coach,
this is your first first touchdown. I said, yeah it is.
He goes Man, That's that's terrific. You supposed to being kickoff coverage.
I'm like, oh, he said, that's your game check. I
can't remember if they took my game check or not,
but we we covered that kick in Philadelphia with ten guys.

(16:36):
Not all that good on my part.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
I don't care if it's preseason. That is favorite story. Yeah, man,
oh he chewed My is glowing for the first time.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
I thought I finally made this dude smile because he's
been not smiling at me ever. But you know, I
think Safety, by the way, just a kid from Colorado.

Speaker 1 (17:00):
Incredible, great story, great story. I think Safety could be
another one.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
By the way.

Speaker 4 (17:05):
As far as position group that might see some surprises,
I don't know what they're doing there in terms of
like the rotation. So I mean, you know who your
starter is going to be, Hufunga and Jones. Now once
you get past that, Honestly, I got to say, I'm
not sure.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
PJ Lock, PJ Lock, I honestly I think the von
key might be the guy who's sitting there in the
third spot. And then after that, I mean, I think
I think Turner, Yell and Skinner are fighting to stay
on the roster.

Speaker 2 (17:33):
And don't forget about Sam Franklin. Franklin I think is
above them well.

Speaker 4 (17:37):
And Franklin is a known commodity on special teams.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
And Sam Franklin.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
I think unless he plays his way out of that,
in some way, he's going to be hard to dislodge
because he is a special teams playing Jesse, So.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
Does that negatively impact PJ?

Speaker 4 (18:00):
Lock I that's what I mean when I say, honest
to goodness, I don't I don't have a feel for
it just yet. I think we'll see in the in
the game or in the first couple of games. Maybe
if if PJ is on the bubble, then I think
you're going to seem play. I think they want to
make sure he's back. PJ is a good player when

(18:21):
he's healthy. I think, you know, last year, you know
he wouldn't he got hurt, but and then he tried
to come back, and I don't think he was healthy.
But people see a helmet on, you're out in the game,
and then you get beat on a route and they're like, man,
what's wrong with six?

Speaker 2 (18:37):
Well, he wasn't healthy, so we'll see.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
Well, you saw people doing the same thing, sniping at
Certan and Moss late in the season.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
I'm like, well, these guys were hurt, they're player. However,
we're playing Hobbins Moss in particular, I mean, what did
you expect?

Speaker 3 (18:50):
You know, that game against the Browns is not typical
of either player. You know, it was a little ridiculous.
But I think keeteran Smith too. Don't don't factor him out.
I mean, I think keetern Smith and Sam Franklin, I
haad of Skinner and uh and Turnery yell at this point,
poor Keeterron today, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:07):
The one, so and listen.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
I actually think Sam Ellinger just had some moments out
there at camp. Yes, and but he he completed a
deep touchdown pass to Courtney Jackson number eighty nine, and
I don't know if he saw it. So, so Ellinger
is is be lying it towards the sideline, and he's
being chased by the entire defensive line, and at the
last second he just sees Courney Jackson standing in the

(19:31):
ends all by himself and so Keidri Smith had let
him go because I think he thought the play was
over and here's from like forty yards And honestly, I
did not know tip the cap sam Ellinger. I did
not you know he had that game. He was unfamiliar
with his game. I was unfamiliar with your arm talent,
and he just heaves it with all his might. You know.

Speaker 4 (19:50):
Sam Ellinger just texted me tell Ryan to check my resume. Hey,
did you hear Did you hear what Sean said about
sam Ellinger after practice?

Speaker 2 (20:00):
I did. I thought, really, if we have that, I
don't know if we had that cut or not.

Speaker 4 (20:04):
I thought that was a very interesting comment.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
We don't have the cup, but I can, I can.
I can find the quote here. But I did think
it was interesting. He said, what do you think about
as Porties said? Really positive? He made a throw today.
It's he's extremely athletic. He's comfortable throwing in the run.
There's a little moxie to him. Sometimes it can be
a little big for guys, but with him not at all.
You feel like a guy who has played well before
in his confidence and he carries himself that way.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
He's very good off the pocket, very good off schedule.
He's strong. I like that player a lot. I like
that player a lot.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
That's what struck me is he ended his soliloquy about
Sam ellingerle.

Speaker 3 (20:41):
He's always been a scrapper man, maybe all the way
back to west Lake when he beat uh Foles and
Breezes records back there west Lake in Texas, He's always
been a scrapper.

Speaker 4 (20:50):
He was not the most talented quarterback in Texas, and
yet he found a way that they have beat all
of them out.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yep, they Buchelle was the air and he beat him out.

Speaker 1 (21:02):
Anyways, it was it was really amazing and pork Keatrin
Smith was decided to try to get involved in the
play with the ball just landed perfectly in the bucket
there for Courney Jackson.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Who just stanging in the end zone.

Speaker 1 (21:12):
But it was it was remarkable because the entire defense
everybody thought, hey, he's just going to coast out out
of bounds here, and he just heaved it. And you're right,
he probably texted you heave this, Ryan, Well he did, but.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
I didn't know if I wanted to say that on
the air or not. So I'm proud of you that
you said it.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah, well, it's fair. I gotta making strides. I gotta
own it.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
I got to own it when I say stuff like that,
five six six y zeros okay with common spirit, he'll
text line. So yeah, I think that that sort of
wraps up me in the inter positions very quickly that
come to mind.

Speaker 3 (21:40):
Who's going to be the sixth defensive lineman? Is the
line because you know that you know the first five
that they're going to keep. You know they're going to
keep you know, obviously Zach Allen, j FM and DJ.
You know they're gonna keep Malcolm Roach, Uh, Savion Jones
is gonna be gonna be here by Purtchue where he
was drafted. So who's the next guy is at Henningsen
as it was a Marig Jordan Jackson, one of those guys.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
That's a tough decision there. Yeah. Well, and it's it's
interesting because you know, a couple of years ago it
was a.

Speaker 3 (22:06):
Wildly different thing. Now we're having to make tough decisions
on who to keep. Whereas you know before he's like, well,
you know there's gonna be guys available on cut day
to come a long.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
Way from that.

Speaker 1 (22:15):
We have come a long point from that, so speak
of Sean. He was asked about Bonix's confidence, and again,
this is what happens over the course of the training camp,
especially after your quarterback starts throwing some interceptions.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
It becomes a quote unquote narrative.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
And so Sean and he had a great answer at
the very tail end of this, But this was his
first part talking about where Bonix's confidence is from a year.
Removed it from his rookie season. Oh one second, here
try that again.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Here we go.

Speaker 5 (22:44):
That's ongoing. I mean he's much further along. What it
allows him to do is message more to.

Speaker 2 (22:52):
Other players in the huddle. You know, you're when you.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
First get started, you get the play and you're calling it.
And when you're further along, you're able to talk maybe
about a split real quick. You know, if you look
at it, you got like these twelve seconds. You get
to play the cadence to snap count and then you know,
can you remind the back hey you might be the
prime you know, the little reminders. He's way much. I mean,

(23:20):
he's light years further along. He's going, well, yeah, look
we're charting picks here like like hurricanes.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
So he's doing fine.

Speaker 1 (23:35):
Were charton picks here like Hurricanes, Sean doesn't seem phase
by it.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Maybe we shouldn't be there. What do you think the picks,
the interceptions, it's it's training camp.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
I don't think he I mean, I'm not saying he's
not He's not going to coach bow up on a
couple of those throws. But it doesn't really matter. I mean, really,
in the big picture, we're gonna be sitting here week four.
None of us are going to be talking about the

(24:10):
picks or touchdowns in training camp or any of the
three preseason games exactly.

Speaker 3 (24:16):
I mean, this is this is the time to go
out and make mistakes, find out what works, find out
what doesn't work, and know why it doesn't work. You know,
make those mistakes now so you have a conceptual understanding
of why I'm coaching you to do it this way
instead of doing it that way.

Speaker 2 (24:28):
I'm fine with it.

Speaker 3 (24:29):
Unless you're you know, unless you're throwing five six interceptions
a day every day, you know, and then that you know,
this is Paxton lynching it up out here like this
is I'm just saying this conversation, what was the favor
of the fan favorite who has looked so bad in practice.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Drew Locke, No Chad Kelly. The fan for clamoring for
Chad Kelly.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
I'm like, this guy can't hit a receiver wide open
receivers in practice.

Speaker 2 (24:52):
Like what are we doing? But you got a nickname
called Swag? Yeah, well, Jack Kelly was kind of fun. Though.
I Discovery Practices as much as we have. There, there
was like a thing there. Every day.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
I would see the fan base was case was out.
He knelt that one down, and you know or whatever.
The fan base was all like, Chad Kelly's got like,
he's not even the second.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Best quarterback on this roster. And then there was the
Halloween incident. Yeah, I'll just swag in the world on
that one. Was it a vacuum cleaner that he got? Yeah,
got beat somebody's house.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
Somebody's house, dressed as Woody from from Toy Story and
got beaten out of the house by somebody with a
vacuum cleaner attachment?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
What do you do at that point? Fellas we've come
along with the quarterback position, the.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
Post fake Man era stuff that we've forgotten, I feel like, yeah, Ryan,
do you ever worn the Woody from Have I.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
Ever worn that costume? I'm more a buzz light year anyway.
Not not in public.

Speaker 2 (25:52):
No, oh, like this is one of the private moments. Yeah,
well he and the old lady, they get the role
play thing going on.

Speaker 1 (25:57):
It's you know, listen Jesse and Woody their their relationship
really has never been explored.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I'm just wow, speaking a moonwalking backped letting harder get
a moon walk right off the showing, Dave, I.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
I I am not a teenager or a single digit
age person. I do not wear Halloween costumes anymore. No, no,
after last year's tobaccle, he just can't.

Speaker 2 (26:27):
No, I just period.

Speaker 1 (26:29):
No, Okay, when was the last time you were at
Halloween cost last year?

Speaker 5 (26:34):
What?

Speaker 2 (26:35):
Yeah? Last year? That's not to be discussed on. He's like,
that's my business. Yeah, what do you want to steal
my past? So you give me that you had you
did wear a costume last year? You're just I could
tell you what it was. Yeah, I was iron Man
last year. Yeah, but you aspired to that. I was Chewbacca.

(26:57):
Wait you for I was like, I was like, oh,
you know, I can see it. You just got the
hype for it. I could see it right. Well, the
picture of like, did you say a character the whole night.
Did you just burn? No, Tobacca didn't make that noise?
Did he? Are we doing a Tobacca contest here?

Speaker 3 (27:25):
I feel like we should do something like that for
Broncos at some point this year. Imagine somebody tuning into
the show right now, what is happening?

Speaker 2 (27:32):
What's the latest on Broncos? Away was what's somebody said?
You dressed up as a revealing nurse?

Speaker 5 (27:41):
Is that?

Speaker 2 (27:41):
No? I can't be it. They saw me. I mean
more of a bin thing.

Speaker 3 (27:46):
Yeah, they said the sexy nurse costume. And I went
the wrong way with that one.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
I bet you did. You would You wouldn't like.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
The biker thing from Super Troopers. He dresses up as
a cyclist instead of you remember that?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
Do you remember that?

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (28:00):
Today's training camp Jay Kwan McMillan. He spoke with the
media afterwards. He was asked about the competition with John
Ay Baron, who again had a very nice practice out there.
This is what Ja Kwan, who slipped into the third
person here and just a moment, talked about.

Speaker 2 (28:16):
It's going good.

Speaker 6 (28:17):
I think he's doing a great job coming in Lunder
in the defense. But you know, I feel like the
whole The whole room is doing a good job.

Speaker 2 (28:25):
We all competing.

Speaker 6 (28:25):
We got a lot of depth, a lot of good
guys in the room, So I think that's going good.

Speaker 5 (28:30):
Does that lead to you when you have that competition, Well,
it's a ready to try to measure energy, to have
a love with you like that competition.

Speaker 6 (28:37):
I'm always competing. That's every year with me. Jake Mac
gonna be j Mack. I'm the same guy I was
back on twenty twenty two when I first got here.
I just come out here and compete each and every day,
and they try to get better and we I think
we're trying to do that as a group and everybody's
getting better by it.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
J Max is gonna be j Mac, same guy since
twenty twenty two.

Speaker 3 (29:02):
Yeah, I know, I knew he had lost the corner competition.
He referred to himself in the third person. I think
he's he's looked good out there. Some people will point
to the fact that they out of Johnny Barron as
a direct response to anything that he did last year.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
I don't I don't know if that. I think it's
just an opportunity to get better, like in the end,
to be his I think both are true.

Speaker 4 (29:26):
Okay, I mean they couldn't afford to pass up based
on where they had Baron ranked. I think they were
astounded that he was still available.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
Well, everybody was shocked Miami took Kenth Grant instead of him,
because look at Miami's corner depth. And then when Arizona
passed as well to take Walter Nolan and he's just
fallen right in your lap Sincinnati, who could use anything
on defense, and took the wrong defensive end.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
You know, yeah, but he's in camp at least. Finally, Yeah,
is this was This was kind of a funny thing.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
And I think we've we've discussed this in the past
about when you're a defensive player and the offense is
getting wins. Are you happy about it because the offense
is showing some success or are you upset about it
because you're the defense and you want them to basically
struggle all the time.

Speaker 2 (30:10):
Here's what he said. We all are team.

Speaker 6 (30:12):
We were gonna go to work together on Sundays, so
you know, you want to see them guys compete and
making plays. If not, you know, but you want to
see them guys making plays. We all are here to compete.
And when they making plays, you know, you you you
you happy for them and you know inside but you
know you're going to right now, we're practicing this each other.

(30:34):
We competing, so you want to make your plays too.
But like seeing them making their plays, you know that's
you know, we want to see them plays on Sunday.
So it's good to see that.

Speaker 4 (30:45):
You know what that means, right, Yeah, go ahead, we
want to see those plays on Sunday. Yes, we've seen
them in practice, and that's great. Y'all celebrate. That's that's
good too. We're all on the same team. We want
to see that stuff on Sundays.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
That's all we're talking about practice, not a game, not
a game. I really thought you were going with the
ted Lasso one there, did you.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
I don't know if that's the comparable for you on offense,
like when you were in training camp or practices or
I mean you weren't. I can't imagine you were ever
rooting for the defense to have success against your offense.

Speaker 4 (31:21):
I would say back in those days, again, there was
color TV though, but I mean, I'm just telling you
we practiced twice a day in pads and there was
at least one period in each practice at least one

(31:42):
that was complete and total live back. We're going to
the ground. Receivers were definitely going to the ground. It
was like a miniature game. So we there were more
fights in training camp back in the late seventies to
the to the eighties, just because of how practice was structured.

Speaker 2 (32:04):
They hated us.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
I mean we we loved each other as a team,
but there was such competition that you knew going into practice, like, Okay,
if I get a remember what let's say, I remember
what he did yesterday in practice, So you best believe
if I have a pushcrack opportunity and he comes down
the b I'm gonna light his ass, I'm gonna run

(32:28):
my helmet.

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Through the side of his ear hole.

Speaker 3 (32:31):
Well, and also, you know, there weren't cameras at every
practice the way there are now. And it took you know,
the media, it took them two hours to file their
column by telegraph.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
And these are your these are your teammates, you know,
you telegraph.

Speaker 4 (32:45):
I just sort of glossed. He gave thee anytime he
wants to get froggy. He knows where I'm at.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
I'm over here chilling, not much even though that was
your teammates, you're gonna it was? It was, Yeah, it was.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
I'm glad those days are over in the NFL, frankly
because a lot of guys are going to stay a
lot healthier.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
So, but I mean, I see it was.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
It was kind of a word style, But I understand
the point he's making. Like you said, you want to
see that stuff on Sunday. That's the biggest That was
the take from what he said. But they got to
get confidence and they got to build confidence to make
those plays on Sunday. Yet you are the defense that's
trying to stop them from that, you know what.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
The no, I mean, the defense has to do what
they're gonna do. You got to build confidence on your own.
It's not like you're you know, you're not gonna every
time the defense shuts you down. You don't lose your confidence.
What he's saying is, man, they look good today.

Speaker 2 (33:39):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (33:39):
You brought it up that they got the best of
us on a couple of though. Yep, that's true too.
Now I want to see that on Sunday because prior
to last year, and even at times last year, didn't
see a lot of that on Sundays.

Speaker 2 (33:52):
Let's let's be honest about that.

Speaker 3 (33:54):
Just didn't Yeah, I think you know, yeah, you want
to see a live fire, you know, where are their
success is our success. But at the same time, I
mean I think that and I don't know the iron
sharpens iron cliche and all that kind of stuff, But
end of the day, it makes you both better. And
then you get out there on Sunday and you know
your your side can't be the side that's that's not contributing.
I just it's fascinating to me as we look at

(34:15):
this defense and on paper think it's, you know, a
top three and it may not be two or three
defense in this league this coming season. How far we've
come from that Miami debacle just a few short years ago.

Speaker 2 (34:25):
That's another thing to forget about. On top of the
swag Kelly, I mean, look, look how far they've turned
it around. Oh, I mean, I granted there were players
out in that game and all that kind.

Speaker 1 (34:34):
Of stuff, but still, yeah, well that was one of
those that they had, you know, long way from the
fan base basically about to burn the place down because
they wouldn't fire advance. All right, we'll come back, we
have you and rapport r NFL network inside.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
We'll get to that next
