Speaker 3 (00:14):
Ian.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Good afternoon, sir.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
How are you what's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:17):
Guys?
Speaker 5 (00:18):
How are you hey? Ian?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
Good to have you on. Last time we talked just.
Speaker 5 (00:22):
Leaving the Raiders. Actually at the timing is perfect.
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Wow, So you know what, I'll I'll change courses here.
What did you see today covering the Raiders?
Speaker 5 (00:32):
You know, I think it's going to be a little
bit better here. And to me, I think we've always
sort of known slash thought that te Carroll was just
the right answers here culture wise, and I you know,
I still really believe that. But I think the main
thing is they finally have a team that leached it
on the level playing field with a lot of the
other teams talent wise, like Tino Smith, you know, is
(00:55):
a legitimate starting quarterback in the NFL. I think Ashon
Jens is a religion starting running back. I think Bron
Bowers is one of the best tight ends in the NFL,
like they got pieces. I think enough to finally, for
the first time in a while at least have a shot,
which is you know, I think for the Raiders it's
a new and good thing.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
I and Benjamin all right here, how you doing, buddy,
Travis Hunter?
Speaker 5 (01:21):
Right? How about me coming to Denver?
Speaker 3 (01:24):
I hell, to me, I was sick. I was out,
sadout sick for like a week and a half. Man,
I'm sorry, I didn't know you were coming in.
Speaker 6 (01:30):
If i'd known, i'd I would absolutely and we could
have got dinner while I coughed all over everything.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Travis Hunter, listen to the listen.
Speaker 6 (01:37):
Is the starting wide receiver for the Jags a backup corner?
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Do you think that holds? Or do you think he.
Speaker 6 (01:41):
Winds up uh, maybe shifting more to corner as this
goes along? Or is this gonna be one of those
things where they're just gonna keep throwing stuff on his
plate and see what shakes out.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
No, I think that holds. I think that holds. And
you know, I've spent some time in Jacksonville during training camping.
You know to me that that was really the plan,
which was to make him a full time wide receiver
and then a matchup corner. So like let's say, you know,
maybe comes in plays in the red zone, or like
(02:10):
they got a receiver he can match up against. Maybe
he covers that guy that week, like sort of the
ultimate chess piece, which you know, I think first year
is a great place to be. Now, like, you know,
is he a better corner, is he a better receiver?
I'm not sure the answer to that. I talked to
a lot of gms about it. Of of course, the
last couple of weeks there's been different views based on
(02:31):
who you ask. Like I was in Cleveland the other
day and they think for sure he's a better receiver.
Other teams think he's a better corner. Jackson obviously starting
with receiver, so you know, there's not a lot of precedent. Honestly,
there's not a lot of players like this in NFL history,
So I'm really curious to see how it goes well.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Ian, as you mentioned, there you were out here, I
said hi to you. Of course Ben opted not to,
but I wasn't there.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
I was sixth Sorry, Yeah, I didn't say hello because
Been asked.
Speaker 5 (02:58):
Me not to.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
God, I just this Fromtwork's comes from that was.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
That was a great moment, I have to say it
was what was the remind me what the argument was
over that.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
I took whether the Broncos were going to take Matt
Golden or not?
Speaker 5 (03:16):
Oh yeah, that's right now. They did try to trade up,
it was not for gold What did you know? I
think they didn't have a chance. It wasn't Golden gomb
by the time they no, No, that's right.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
What did you learn while you were out here in Denver?
Speaker 3 (03:34):
Tell you?
Speaker 5 (03:35):
The most interesting I learned was that they are here
for the expectations. Like you never quite can tell what
a team is going to feel like when like the
nation falls in love with them. And like I said
a while talking to Sean Payton, not only does he
think the team is good, he was more than happy
to be like, this is what we expect and like,
you know, I don't know what the right way is
(03:57):
to treat a team to like, you know, seeing it
both ways, right, We've seen embrace the expectations, pretend they
don't exist, like whatever it is, they're embracing them, and
they are here for them, and they think they are good.
And I kind of think they're good too, you know,
And like I think the other thing is the view
of bone Nicks as a sort of like low ceiling starter,
(04:19):
which is what I thought coming out, is not right.
And I don't know how we all got there as
like an industrial draft complex, but we did, and I
think that is not right. And so he's going to
be really good. He is with the right coach, but
I think he'd be really good anyway. And this is
a pretty good team.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Last couple here for you, Ian Rapper, were our NFL
Network insider enjoining us here.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
I got to ask you about Michael Parsons.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
Man, this is uh, this thing is is kind of
taking the turn of course with the terr McLaurin stuff.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
I think we had a chance to ask you about that.
But MICHAEH. Parsons, where are we at in your opinion?
Where's this thing headed?
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Well? I think a lot of people, especially with the Cowboys,
are kind of like like, oh, well, you know, it's
just a trade requests part of it. Like I don't know, man,
I don't know. I would when Mark, when Micah speaks,
I take it very seriously, so we'll see which direction
it goes. But I do not shrug it off. I
don't laugh at it like it's feel in some sort
(05:15):
of way, and until unless the team decides to get
a deal done. You know, I would say this is
kind of where it's going to be even you know,
like what do you do a deal? Now? If the
Cowboys presented him with I don't know, I don't know,
he is not very happy, and I would say, I
(05:35):
get it. You know, it's like they tried to kind
of tried to pull one over on him with the
negotiations without his Asian Like, these kinds of things can
really weigh on a player and hit them pretty hard,
and that seems to be where we are with Micah.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
Hey Ian, I want to follow up and ask you
to sort of get it. You covered the league a
long time and I have two but you would know
better than I. In terms of Jerry Jones, just watching
this whole thing unfold, I have no idea really what
they hope to accomplish.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
The numbers are out there.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Other guys that are in his categories so to speak,
have signed, so you know pretty much what the numbers are.
If you had the hazard a guess what are the
Cowboys hoping to accomplish? As we sit here today with
the Micah Parsons situation.
Speaker 5 (06:25):
Well, I would say a couple of things. One, I
think the Cowboys were frustrated. Jerry Jones specifically was frustrated
because they thought they were negotiating a deal with Mike
and then they left and was like, call my agent.
And I think Michael was frustrated because he thought they
were just having a conversation and the Cowboys really hold on,
this is a negotiation and they were not at all
(06:49):
on the same page on that, and so that can
that can make it a challenge to kind of pull
everyone back in. So I think that's one thing. The
other thing is, yes, the numbers may be out there,
like he's going to be the highest baided non quarterback
in the NFL when he gets a deal. We all
know that. Okay, So the Cowboys have traditionally wanted to
do longer term deals, right, They very famously did a
(07:10):
like eight year deal for or whatever it was, Tyron Smith.
Deal with Tyren Smith, they have done six year deals.
David Mulligant of the agent for Michael Parsons much prefers
shorter deals. So that's a huge difference. That's like when
is the player free agent? When does he get to
cash in again, Like that's real money at stakes, So
like it's not just the numbers, it's also like who's
(07:33):
going to give on what the term of the contract
ends up being.
Speaker 3 (07:37):
So at the end of the day, like what is
the resolution here?
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Because I mean, I think we all know Parsons on
a bash of love for dan Quinn, but I highly
doubt Jerry's trading him in division, you know, and Jones
has a history of caving last minute and then over pay.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Don't highly doubt it does not happen.
Speaker 6 (07:53):
But I mean, like at the end of the day,
I mean, Jerry does have a history of caving last
minute and then overpaying, is it. I mean that feels
like the odds on betting favorite for.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
This for the resolution here.
Speaker 5 (08:04):
Yeah, But that that sort of also takes Micah saying yes,
I want to be here, and I don't know that
he's there right now. Now. We've seen at various times
negotiations get testy and emotional and then you agree to
a deal and it's like all right, all right, get
in here and you sort of like figure it out.
You know, I don't know that we'll get there, and
(08:26):
I'm I'm really curious to see if they will. It's
not in a good place now obviously, is more money
gonna make it feel better? Like, depends how favorable, But
I don't know that. I don't know if Michael would
agree with a deal now, I really don't. So let's
let's sort of wait and see. But where it goes
is the Cowboys trying to get it done and Mike
(08:47):
to actually accept it, you know, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (08:50):
Ian, always appreciate it, man. We'll check in with you next.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Week, Okay, look forward to it. Take care, guys, all right.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Thank you, Ian Rappaport, our NFL Network insider. We'll get
that up at Kway Colorado dot com. You've said on Saturday,
Ben that the Raiders had entered the chat a little
bit on Micah Parsons.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
Yeah, Dallas hasn't responded to it.
Speaker 6 (09:09):
But the Raiders do have an offer on the table
for Michaeh Parsons and that that's scary imagining him and
Max Crosby on the same defense. But the two ones,
you know, two three and two fours, I mean that
is that is an insane offer.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
Two ones A two A three and two fours.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
Yeah, I don't think that gets it done either, that's
an insane offer. I don't think it gets it done.
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Wow, we are right, I'm thinking about that. That's a
lot of draft casts.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
It's a lot of draft capital for a team that
needs to build through the draft. Can you, I mean,
just for a second, think about a defense that has
Michael Parsons and Max Crosby on at the same time.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
That is scary. Here's what I think. Jerry Jones is
eighty something.
Speaker 4 (09:52):
Why in the world, even if he's pissed about it,
would you trade together like Micah Parsons to accumulate a
ton of draft choices if he were fifty three and
not eighty three. Okay, you're in it for the long haul.
You can rebuild your franchise. You haven't been to the playoffs,
(10:12):
not deep in the playoffs, So I get that.
Speaker 6 (10:15):
Not at his age. Yeah, he wants to win one
before las. I mean, that's very well known. He wants
to win one before he goes. So that's that's the
other part of this is But I mean, at the
same time, you're looking at a Dallas team that has
to do some kaponomics because of some of the contracts
they've given out.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
So those draft.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Choices might be a little bit more valuable in terms
of that.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
From that perspective, it seems like the egos involved here
could push this thing in a tough direction where maybe
there is a point of no return with Michael Parsons
and the way that Jerry's handled this publicly has been
the most confusing thing from the very beginning. I mean,
he started out his sort of pre training camp comments.
(10:53):
He's calling him Michael, He's saying I'm not going to
negotiate with his agent, and saying those kinds of things,
and doing this very publicly where it would seem like
as an organization you'd want as much behind the scenes
as possible, like you're just going to go status quo
across the board on everything publicly.
Speaker 4 (11:09):
Yeah, But I would say that point would be valid
for a lot of NFL ownership groups, including the one
here in Denver, and we like that about them. That
would not be a valid point for Jerry Jones and
how he's conducted himself. I don't think at one I
can't think of one time in his career as the
owner of the Cowboys, which was I think what eighty nine,
nineteen eighty nine, He's never conducted himself sort of behind
(11:32):
the scene. He's always been out front.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Look at me. This is an owner.
Speaker 4 (11:39):
Who does a postgame press conference after every single game.
You're right stop and thinking about that. That's rather unique
in the NFL. What other owner does that? And he
loves the circus? I mean, Jerry Jones is pt Bartum
for better or for worse. He loves the circus.
Speaker 6 (11:57):
But go ahead ahead with David Malagettis, Like, David is
the the eighth best sports agent in all of any
sports across the globe.
Speaker 3 (12:04):
You've been seeing the eighth bust money.
Speaker 6 (12:05):
He's the second most powerful guy in American football Behindrew Rosenhaus. Like,
that's the wrong guy to be going head to head
with and trying to try to cut out.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
Well, that may be true, but all of this talk
about they're a stalemate and we don't know that they're
going to be able to get a deal done. And
if you're Micah Parsons, what what does that really mean?
As you sit there at home pissed about how things
are gone? I get it, But the reality of it is,
(12:33):
what what does that really mean for you? You're gonna you know,
you're gonna stay you're gonna go in and hold in
for the season because then your contract next year they
still have.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
They still could franchise him, right He's on the fifth
year option right now, right.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
That franchise, and they could franchise him twice if they
really wanted to screw him over. So the leverage to
me is, if Jerry Jones really thinks I think we
can squeeze into the playoffs with this team, I got
a receiver and George Pickens. Now I've got Ceedee Lamb
(13:13):
and Pickens, I got Dak I mean this is you know,
I've got Tony Pollard is gone, but now you know
the running game, I've got a guy that likes to
run it play action in Schottenheimer. If Jerry Jones thinks
he can squeeze into the playoffs, then I think this
deal sooner than later will get done.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
But really, Micah Parsons doesn't.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Have a hell of a lot of leverage other than
I'm your best player and I'm going to be in
the facility every single day and I'm not practicing.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
Yeah, and Dallas has got a bit of a problem
because they're good on cap space right now at thirty
five million, But next year, they're already underwater. They're underwater
five million already, so they've they've got a problem with
money going forward. It's kind of the opposite situation the Broncos,
who are underwater. Now we're in the second worst cap
space this year, we're underwater seven hundred thousand, but as
you go into next year then we're up eighteen nine million.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
The Cowboys have a problem.
Speaker 6 (14:01):
They're just gonna have the super wonky structure on this
thing in order to get Parsons paid.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
If they do this.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Thing, you know, they're they're stuck with the contracts. I mean,
and I say stuck because it's it's tough to say
that officially with Dak Prescott. It's he he's one of
the most confusing quarterbacks I think for a lot of
people out there to decide whether he's truly one of
those top ten elite guys. When he's good and he's right,
I feel like he's in that conversation. It's health and
(14:27):
the inconsistent performances in the postseason. Then not that we're
gonna do a whole talents Dallas Cowboys segment here is
just they're in a position where they do kind of
have to have an eye on the future. To Ben's
points right, because of the contracts they've handed out.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
But he's there next year too. Yeah, that's great. They
can't do anything. They can't at all.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
He's got a fifty point five cap number this year,
you know, and it's the next year. It's just like
it's uncut. He's still forty five or something next year.
Like they can't. There's no freedom until after that to
be able to move in. First of all, they've got
him for two years.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Yeah, no, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
So let me ask you this, So for the bro
goes for a second here, because the Russ thing comes
off this year, they're done that. They're they are out
of the woods that it comes to Russ's contract. So,
but you're one year away from probably needing to pay
bow Nick. So is next year in Europe? I mean
Sean saying this could be a super Bowl team that
would be phenomenal. Is next year the all in year?
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Do you have to agree with you?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
What do you mean that as in, we have one
year left of an affordable rookie contract for our quarterback.
Speaker 4 (15:27):
I think part of that answer depends on how they
play this year and if they I mean, obviously they
have a great year and they get maybe they get
close to that than the answer I think would be yes,
they're gonna go.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
They're gonna go.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
All in, and it depends on some of the pieces,
because I think Sean would answer that question, say, what
do you mean we're like all in now? We just
went out and got Evan Ingram. We just went out
and got JK. Dobbins. Second round draft choice is are
running back who had a great college career. So they
added pieces and Pat Bryan let's not forget him in
(16:03):
the third round. They've added some pieces that I think
the organization feels like are really going to be able
to step in and contribute right now. Right two rookies
and two veteran guys that have to stay healthy, but
so do a lot of other players around the NFL.
If Ingram and Dobbins stay healthy, both those guys have
(16:24):
been productive players in this league.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
Yeah, next year is going to be interesting in terms
of kapanomics. You get the break from all the rough
stuff being out from under you. Like I said, the
Broncos about nineteen million right now in cap space next year.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
That's before any potential Nick Benito stuff.
Speaker 6 (16:40):
But you get some decisions to make on Ben powers
of Mike McGlinchey at that point, just based on where
their contracts are you topping them back off or you
be punting on that because if you do, that's fifteen
to twenty million, you're free and back up.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
I think I would say the same answer. I think
it depends. I think both those guys are under a
microscope this year because of exactly what you said. Both
guys will have to step up their play. And I
mean there was once a time that I think a
lot of us felt like Garrett Bowles wasn't coming back,
and thenk Garrett had a stretch of play where it's like, Okay,
(17:12):
he's going to be hard to get rid of.
Speaker 3 (17:14):
Uh huh, he's going to be hard to replace.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I think Quinn and Bowles are here until they you know,
until they play themselves out.
Speaker 4 (17:19):
And Glinchy empowers. Both have to step up their game
this year to the point that Sean looks at them
and says, I know it's a lot of money, but
you know what, I think we gotta we got to
stay the course on these two guys.
Speaker 3 (17:34):
I mean, you have to justify it though.
Speaker 6 (17:35):
By the way, McGlinchey is the biggest cap number for
the Broncos this year, and powers is third.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Something is the is the number ten. They have to
step right.
Speaker 6 (17:43):
You have to be able to Yeah, you have to
be able to match that because you guys are the
number one and number three cap hits for the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
But it might be a situation and I'm not trying
to make this sound like a negative thing for Garrett Bules,
So it might be a situation where the known of
what they are in giving them a bumper. An extension
is a more likable situation than going into free agency
having to look for something new. So like Gara Bowles,
for example, we had talked about this going I mean
during the season last year, we said, hey, he's in
(18:09):
the final year of his contract. You could decide that
we're not going to move into next year without him.
But then you've got a massive hole left tackle because
you have nobody on the roster that is developing behind him.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
But I don't think I think that was the case
for Garrett Bules.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
I don't necessarily think that's the case for Mike mcglinche Palcewski,
who I think they like. And again it becomes a
really contract friendly, a team friendly deal for him. So
I think developing the depth on the offensive line is
important this year, but not only for in case something
happens this year, but to determine, Hey, what direction are
(18:45):
we going to go next year at two key spots.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
And in order to make all this stuff work, Pam Bonito,
and then you've got a looming contract with Boonex behind
that you're going to have to get cheaper somewhere.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
And I mean, right now, it looks like the offensive line.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Absolutely right when we come back. I want to follow
up on this for just like what would be the
all in move? Okay, so like when they say all
in because you might have the cap flexibility next year,
I wonder what that would actually look like. Because as
we're sitting here breaking it all down, you feel like
you love the depth of where you're at with all
these positions. So let's get to that conversation coming up next, guys,
(19:18):
some really good sound from bon Nicks. I was gonna
see if I can see if I can find that
here a little bit, but oh yeah, here this was
a Bonix talking about the expectations to Ian last week.
Speaker 7 (19:29):
Well, the expectations are definitely higher, but we like that.
That means you're a good football team. That means you
have something to play for, and you know, we've put
together a really good football team. We've added some pieces
on both sides of the football. We really feel like
in all three phases of the game, we've got better
this offseason. So we're excited to really start playing you know,
(19:49):
other teams, and it's fun to compete against each other
at practice, but you never really know until you start
the season. But the expectations are definitely higher. But that's
a good thing. That means you're doing something right.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
I wonder a little bit off some of the interceptions
that are now happening in camp are a bit of
his defense knowing his tendencies.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
I mean, it could be.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Some of they're just going to be those things. And
that's that's the thing.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
Like we talk about the EBB and flow, what we
really mean is as an offense, you're you're trying to
put an install in early, right, and so the defense
already knows what they're gonna do with the offense is
trying to install stuff in chunks, so they're behind the
defense naturally, right. But what happens in training camp, you
go against the same guys every day. You start to
learn their tendencies, You start to learn how they do things,
how what they do here, what they don't do, what
they don't do well, and you start, you know, practicing.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
That's why these joint.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
Practices are so valuable because it shakes you up out
of I'm playing the guy instead of playing the technique
or playing the you know, the way you're supposed to
do it, and so that's there's probably an element of
that to it. Now that these guys have gone through
this is their second training camp with bo Nicks's quarterback,
you're starting to figure out, Okay, I know what both
likes to do here and nobody likes to do there.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
You know, you pick up on that. We'll see.
Speaker 1 (20:52):
Meanwhile, of course Bonnicks knows some of the tendencies of
the defense too, so you advice versaly yep. I think
some of the successes that they're having out there are
directly impacted by that. So I asked the question right
before we went to break about what the all In
move next year, we're having an opportunity in the offseason.
It'll be a fun offseason one way or the other
to talk about this team and what that looks like,
(21:12):
assuming they stay on the trajectory that they're on, which
is a playoff team, and maybe they even want a
playoff game. What's the all in move in your opinion
in the twenty twenty five twenty twenty six offseason.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
You know, maybe another premier pass catcher.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
That was the first thing that popped in the mind
is probably But the problem is that class is actually
like really gross in terms of like free as wide receivers.
Speaker 6 (21:35):
I mean, if you're telling you at the top of
the list is guys like Debo or Jacobe Myers or
Khalif Raymond like that, that wide receiver class is a
bunch of has beens on those guys.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
Yeah, I mean, like there's a Terr McLaurin, but he's
not gonna be Mike Evans.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Is not leaving Tampa.
Speaker 1 (21:53):
Triniy Wilson is in there, Christian Kirk, Yes, Mark Andrews,
but even is that an all in move at thirty
years old?
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Now, so that's the thing. It's like, okay, the all
in move is kind of one of that.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
Or maybe bringing in some other premier front seven defensive player.
Speaker 3 (22:08):
You know, if JFM has gone.
Speaker 6 (22:09):
Maybe you know, and Savean's out there, Maybe you're bringing in,
you know, another defensive end or defensive tackle that kind
of manages h manages in that spot, but and I
don't know, or maybe an inside backer of Singleton and
Dre or you know, I mean, Drey is still gonna
be around at that point, but Singleton may be gone
at that point, so you.
Speaker 3 (22:28):
Bring it in another inside backer.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
But I mean, I don't know, there's not really I mean,
the way this team is constructed right now, there's not
really an area where you would be willing to pay.
Speaker 3 (22:40):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (22:40):
Maybe the Ingram thing doesn't work out a tight end, but.
Speaker 6 (22:43):
I mean, you know, there's not really one of those
areas where you're willing to pay somebody. Like this team
isn't a team the way that it's set up, which
is the right way to set it up, is not
really a team that's gonna be a huge.
Speaker 2 (22:53):
Factor in pre agency going forward.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
You don't want to be one. You don't wonder you.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Spend an eight plus money for B plus talent. Maybe
maybe a Trey Hendricks if that ends up. I don't
think he's a fit for this defense. Honestly, I think
he's a hand in the dirt guy. I'm trying to
think of somebody who can shut him inside a little bit.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
Yeah, but that's take.
Speaker 6 (23:12):
I mean, the money you'd have to pay him to
be John Franklin Myers, that's not a there's not a value,
that's a that's a you know what I mean, Like,
that's just not a value. He could do it, but
he's at his best when he's on the you know,
when he's on the edge, as a hand on.
Speaker 3 (23:24):
The dirt end.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
He absolutely is.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
I was just I'm trying to think out loud on
what would be some of those moves. I mean, clil
Mack is theoretically going to be a free agent.
Speaker 5 (23:33):
Deal.
Speaker 3 (23:33):
You're renting the.
Speaker 6 (23:33):
Name at that point more more so than you're really Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
So I think I think I think that's all valid.
Maybe the all in move technically is just keeping your guys,
which is what the Broncos have been doing. And we
talked a little bit about it last week about how
Marvin Mims is going to be a free agent. Right, well,
he's got one more year left, but then he'll you
be looking at his contract, He'll be looking at Okay, well,
what is the value of Marvin Mims to our our
(24:00):
team and what we're going to be trying to do
going forward.
Speaker 6 (24:02):
Yeah, I think your your to answer your question and
give you a real answer. Your answer would be going
out and bringing in David Joku or one of the
you know, if you get rid of McGlinchey, one of
the one of the offensive linemans like Molten or Jonah Williams,
something like that. Sure that that's that's the answer. But
this team isn't set up like they don't have to
do that. Like that's George Payton and the draft savvy
moves that they have made has stocked this roster with
(24:25):
the right kind of talent that you can next man
up it. And that's that's what you want to be.
You want to be homegrown, next guy up. We'll let
certain guys go if their price points get there. We
don't want to be highly active in free agency. We
just want to be able to get a guy here
or there to plug and play. And that that's the
way they're set up now. I mean that look at
the way they've approached for agency this year. Even I mean,
you bring in Ufaga and Dre green Law and e
(24:45):
At Ingram, but really, you know, you weren't a huge
factor of free agency. Your money went to paying your
guys like Sutton and Zach Allen. It's gonna you know,
Nick Benito coming a.
Speaker 1 (24:54):
Couple of comments questions here on the ka com spirit
Hal text laying five six six nine zero. I'm all
for players getting pay, but why don't players agree to
a more favorable contract for the team to free up
team money to sign better players and create a dynasty
of Super Bowl wins.
Speaker 6 (25:09):
Well for the same reason that you or I wouldn't
do that, right, like to the Texter, Like, you're not
taking a pay cut at your job so your employer
can bring in another, you know, another person so you
guys can win you know, Office of the Year, whatever
your super Bowl is.
Speaker 3 (25:22):
I don't really know, but you get the idea.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
You're not taking a pay cut to do that, And
why would a.
Speaker 3 (25:25):
Player do that?
Speaker 6 (25:26):
You know, there are some that Corland Sutton took below
market value to stick around in Denver, But most guys
aren't taking a pay cut.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
And first of all, the the PA doesn't.
Speaker 6 (25:35):
Let like pay cuts to begin with Players Association, which
that's a whole other animal. But you know, taking below
market value to try to work that stuff out.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
The people you should be eyeballing at that aren't.
Speaker 6 (25:47):
Most players should be the quarterback position because it's usually
so overinflated relative to market value that that's where your
money needs to come from. Well night, and you've got
guy a rookie deal who can't do that. The text
is basically in a lot of ways, differencing Tom Brady
for years or even Pat mahomes Well, when you're sure
it's a lot easier when Tom Brady's getting paid by
Robert Craft in the back of his pocket for his
(26:08):
Brady the TV twelve method, Uh that which you know
they're paying you millions of dollars to do that, so
you'll take a lower deal. That that's different. Yeah, tom
Brady totally did it illegally. But you know, the Patriots
fans have absolutely nothing to talk about when it comes
to the Broncos from the nineties and the Pat Bowl
and stuff with l Way.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
But great, great point there.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
But for years that was the thing that was sort
of held up, is like, look how much Tom Brady
cares about winning, how much he cares about.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Creating a dynasty.
Speaker 6 (26:31):
The circumitted the cap by paying the TV twelve method
to be their nutritional whatever, and they were paying.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Millions and millions of dollars for.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
That, so that I guess to answer the textures question, yeah,
you'd have to kind of do it in a way
that's a little bit subversive.
Speaker 2 (26:46):
If you're gonna if you're gonna do.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Is another way to put that. Yes, you know, if
you can.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
Get away with all the book stuff like the Patriots
did for a quack like Alex Squero as your quote nutritionist,
and I.
Speaker 1 (26:58):
Guess the legal converse station way to do that is
to be an organization that does things the right way.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
And you notice here at the Broncos.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
I'm not saying they're the only team that does this,
but the Broncos had all their players reporting.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
There weren't any of the players.
Speaker 1 (27:13):
Using the media as a way to negotiate their contract.
They did take quote unquote below market deals, right. We
thought we were pretty impressed with another they got to
with Zach allenh was twenty five and a half, which
run Colon Sudden.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
A twenty three.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
That one I was shocked by in terms of my
point here is and I don't know what Nick Benito's
ultimately going to work out too. I mean, if he
has like a fifteen SAX season, well then it's going
to be pretty high. But at this moment, I would
believe in this front office. I would believe in this
organization to find a way to work things out with
these players who by the way, as we heard from
Zach Allen on Saturday, and we heard from Courlan to
(27:46):
a sudden in the week before when he signed his deal,
part of it was wanting to stay here. They liked
the direction things are being built, They liked the communication
with the front office and with the coaching staff. They
believe in the direction, and that does sometimes carry its
own rate.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
It does.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
It doesn't mean it's everything.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Certainly, Courtland Sutton is gonna it wasn't gonna take eighteen.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Million per to stay here just because he likes bone Nicks.
Speaker 1 (28:08):
But taking twenty three means the sixteenth highest paid wide receiver,
you know what. He can kind of tuck himself into
that at thirty thirty one years old.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
And I think there's a good will gesture there too,
Like maybe in two years, when the guaranteed money is
through this thing, maybe they hit me up one more
time and I can stay for you know, with bo
as he gets his big money deal and I'm on
a declining salary at that point, but still relevant, you know.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
Versus, if you're Courtland.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
Sutton, do you really really really want to hit the
free agent market this coming season and go play for
you know, New Orleans. Yeah, I'm making thirty million a year,
but who's throwing me the football? I mean, New Orleans
is going to be epically bad on offense this year,
epically bad? So, you know, is that is that something
you want to do? You bite, you spent your whole
(28:52):
career not winning. Do you want to make a little
bit extra money and continue to not win? Or you
want to try to get a ring on the way out.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
They didn't have enough quarterbacks. They decided to go get
Snoop Huntley. Tyler Huntley now a member of the Cleveland
Browns with Kitty Pickett and Dylan Gabriel dealing with hamstring injuries.
Shodoor Sanders reporting is a sore shoulder, but there are
reports out there that it might be something else. But anyways,
that that is what's going on there. So now we
have a sixth quarterback on the Cleveland Browns.
Speaker 6 (29:22):
They would literally do anything not to release the Epstein Files.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Oh wait is that? Oh boy, you did that at
the end of the show on purpose?
Speaker 3 (29:33):
It was going on purpose?
Speaker 1 (29:34):
Yeah, going, God, well, it's not even Dave. It's like
our text line is now going to just be a
meltdown or melt down on me for that joke. Next
several hours we won't see it because the Rocky's wrong,
and you won't even be on with Rockless Country tonight.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I do love the two one three here though. That
was great. Ben thinks I.
Speaker 6 (29:49):
Wouldn't give half my check to make sure toilet of
Orange stays on top for forty years running.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
You don't know how much fire I got in me.
It's like, yes, this texture gets it.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
Somebody asked you a quick question on Sam Ellinger whether
he'll make the fifty three men roster practice squad. Yeah,
it'll it'll be interesting again, you know, if they get
some kind of sense that they won't be able to
bring him back. I think he'll get some activations because
maybe you had to be on the fifty three to
be used as the emergency quarterback. So he'll get some
activations and then they'll exhaust that and.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Then look at it.
Speaker 6 (30:18):
Yes, but because of the inside linebacker situation. It's gonna
be a little tight. Some of these guys are just
gonna go directly to the practice squad. They'll use the
call ups and then bring him back up. The Drew
Sanders thing really kind of throws a wrench in that one.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Of us will be very happy coming into tomorrow's show,
which again you'll be back with us.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
I will, which you'll be looking forward.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
It's me.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I'm an address in full Highland or regalia. There can
be only one, can be only one. You know.
Speaker 6 (30:40):
Henry Cavill's trying to do a new Yeah, oh, he'd
be great. He'd be great for it, I know.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Well, he was good in The Witcher. Did you ever
see that? It was good goodness cameo and dead pulling Wolverine.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
That was good.
Speaker 2 (30:52):
The Cavalry, the cavalry, you know from the back you
look just.
Speaker 3 (30:55):
Like, oh my god, the cavalryen.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
We will treat you so much better than those they
it's down the road. It's a pretty good movie. The
cameo is really baking.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Cameo is gonna yeah with Chris Evans, I want to
spoil it.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Yeah, that's well, you haven't seen it by now.
Speaker 1 (31:10):
Seriously, you should should goes see it all right, that
is a prise. We'll have a training camp updates tomorrow
at KA Colorado at Albright NFL at our average radio,
so tune in for that practice game at ten am
and then they fly.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Out to UH San Francisco on Wednesday. So that is
a brous grant. Great to have you back, my friends.
Great job tonight is always for Dave Logan. I'm Ryan Edwards.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
Thank you, Ben.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
We'll see tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
We have Rockies baseball coming him next to ko Way
the long ball there
