Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know it, Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards five six, six
nine Zeros are Kioie Commas, spur Hill tech Line the
Rockies following this afternoon twenty to one.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
You don't care, well, you know, I don't care.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
What you care most about is the depth chart of
the Broncos for the first preseason game of the year
Saturday night in Santa Clara sight of Super Bowl fifty.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
That's what you care about.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
And you're right, and I'm wrong, and that's about all
you're gonna get from me.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
It doesn't happen. It doesn't happen much.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
So I would hope that Grant actually did tape that, because.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
It's a rarity.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
When I'm gonna say that, just because I like to
tell the truth. He's sixth on the depth chart, sixth.
My god, you.
Speaker 4 (00:49):
Just you ruined all of my fun.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
As soon as I saw the flip card today at
a chance to go out there, sit and talk to Sean,
sit and talk to both saw the flip card, I said,
oh god, I mean Ryan is going to be insufferable today.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
I have this whole presentation, I had PowerPoint.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
I mean, go ahead and make it seriousciting. I've got
a long bathroom break ahead of me. Go ahead, we
have the audio, Go right ahead, I mean, go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
You're right. I'm wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
I thought he'd be listing second where he will be
on week one, and where he's been the entire training camp.
But he's last sext and I got tired right now.
Six there's five of the running backs that they want
us to believe our ahead of our j Harvey. So
(01:41):
ye're right and I'm wrong. Yes, this is Rockies got
boat raised twenty to one.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
Yeah for a second, yeah, the the Rockies losing twenty
one and forty five to six.
Speaker 4 (01:58):
In case you're doing the math, and I'm is that
what it was? Forty over the three games pre game series,
Toronto is.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
The best team in the Al East. You know, I'm
trying to rationalize a little bit how how this could happen?
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Most recorded hits in a three game series in MLB history,
at least since nineteen oh one sixty three. Seriously, that's
just the Blue Jays. That sounds like the serial. That's
just the Blue Jays. So they got three three hits
in three games.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, not good in math, but that's about twenty one
a game, it's about twenty.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
One game and there's sometimes and listen, I don't want
to pile on the Rockies, and I certainly want to
get to the RJ. Harvey stuff, but there there are
a series where the where the Rockies don't get to
twenty one hits for a series, let alone averaging twenty
one per game.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
It was bare league.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Sawful that That is the best way I could describe
what happened over these three games as the Blue Jays
outscored the Rockies forty five to six.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
I was actually watching the game. Uh know, Drew's been
a good friend for many years and quality broadcaster, but man,
oh man, you look in the stands, there's nobody there.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Now. I know it's a day game, and I know.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
They're a tadbit out of meaningful baseball games this time
of year, but I was talking to and I'm not
gonna I'm not going to use his name because I
don't want to jeopardize he's got to cover the Rockies
on a regular basis. But a guy that's been around
town a long time about what he thinks will happen
when the season is over, and he's kind of like
(03:35):
you and me he's not sure what they're going to do,
and he's not sure they're actually going to do everything.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
He asked me, what I would do?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
Easy for me to play with Dick Montford's chips, I
think after three seasons like the Rockies have had and
this one still even though hopefully he's not going to
break a Major League Baseball record in terms of number
of losses in a single season, it's going to be
well over one hundred losses. That would be the third
(04:06):
consecutive year. To me, you can be loyal. You can
have close friends that have been there for twenty years,
but you're in charge of the franchise. You own the franchise,
you signed the checks. I would have to plain house,
I would have to I'd have great I mean, I'd
(04:26):
have as good a conversation as you can in that situation.
You know, you can still have a great relationship. Make
it right for the people that are leaving that have,
you know, given twenty years of their life trying to
trying to put quality baseball on the field.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
But you mean to me, you owe it to the.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Fans to send a strong message that hey, this is
unacceptable and basically we're blowing out everybody.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
We are going to start over.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Here's the plan, here's who I hire in charge of
baseball operations, and I empower him or her whomever to
make these other moves, and let's see if we can
quickly regroup and get back to being a respectable baseball team.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
I love everything you said. Just historically what they've been,
it's tough to know. And you said, the first sentence
you said is exactly how we've said this all along.
Is I have no bearing whatsoever on what I think
or what I would hope would happen, because historically speaking,
that's just not who they are. They value that loyalty,
(05:32):
whether it's helping them win baseball games or not. They
value that loyalty. Even if a guy is struggling in
his position. Guess what, we have another position that will
open up for you because you've been a good soldier
for us.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
And listen, there's something to mean.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I know it's business, and I know it's professional sports business,
but I admire me too. Loyalty is equality because you
just don't see it very much. In fact, you see
whatever the opposite would be. You see a lot of
that in our business, in professional sports.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
And I'm sure. As you're driving around town and listen
to this.
Speaker 3 (06:02):
In your business as well, you see people that are
just you know, they're so disloyal. So I admire it,
but I think it can only go so far. Your
your job is the owner of the team. I mean
you you basically the only person Dick Montford reports to.
And it's not a person, but it's a fan base.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Dick doesn't have any any bosses. The boss the bosses
for Dick are the fans of the Rockies, and I
think they are owed, you know, a plan, a thought out,
well thought out plan of Hey, we haven't the last
three years, we've all seen what's happened. Here's the direction
we're going, Here's who's going to be in charge of
the new direction, and off we.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Go one hundred degree And and I hope if he
and or the Rockies are listening to this, because of
course we carry the games. That is a serious lean
because regardless if they become the seasons representing the worst
record in history of baseball or not.
Speaker 3 (07:04):
So well, they're not going to do that, are they.
I mean, aren't we out of the woods on that one.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I keep telling myself that they've got thirty wins.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
They got thirty wins forty two.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
So they need twelve wins in the last fifty How
many they got fifty we've.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Gotten so we've played one hundred and fourteen.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
One hundred and fourteen, one sixty two. That is forty eight.
So yeah, you twelve wins and forty eight.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
So they're under grant. Really, you don't think you're gonna
get twelve out of forty eight.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Well I think it will too, But it's like moments
like this series where I do pause for a second,
right because you're gonna steal a few here and there.
And certainly the way they came out of the All
Star Break and they won a couple of series, I
was like, oh yeah, four yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
First team can get there easy.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
But then you have a series like this and it
resets my brain a little bit. Man, forty five to six,
sixty three hits, give it up over three. I mean,
come on, and again you said it was a very
good team. They are, but you're gonna face some other
good teams. I mean, even Arizona. It's fifty four and sixty.
It's a down year for them. They have twenty four
more wins than you, and that's the next series. They're
(08:10):
and you're going down to Hitters Park down there in Arizona.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
So got them right where we want them, right. I
love that right where we want them.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
I love that Mincet.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Mess just got Arizona overcome because.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
They're going to see this and be like Rockies there
they're in a bad way.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
That's right, we want to I'm with you, and you
and I kind of also have the same mindset about
it because there's enough people around town hammering this team
or looking for reasons to hammer this team.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
I'm looking for hope.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
I'm looking for anything to make me believe that the
next season and beyond this is.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
A team that will be heading in the right direction.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
But the fact is, I want hope, but I want
a new plan. I mean, I can be I can
be hopeful. I can I can be positive, I can
get behind, but I want I want something new. I
want a new plan. I think it's time for new people.
You've had people that have been there. I mean, honestly,
Bill's been there for I think late nineties. He got there. Yeah,
(09:08):
he's a really good man. You know, Greg is going
to resign at the end of the season. I've known
Greg for probably forty years. Another good man. But you
know what, Dick, I mean, he's got to to me.
He didn't have to, but I would hope he would
look at this and say, we need, we need to
(09:30):
start over. Well, I mean we just we don't. I mean,
you can't start over entirely in terms of your farm
system and you have who you have your roster right now,
you have who you have.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
But in terms of baseball bringing.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
People in, your philosophy may have a different approach to it,
a different philosophy. I mean, it would have it would
seem that it would have to be better. It would
have to be better, just because it's been so bad.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
To your point, as we we will have turn the
page to next season. I mean we certainly have already.
But you know what I'm saying, Like we get to
March and April, we're getting fired up for opening Day,
which we always do anyways, right, but to talk about
a concrete direction that we believe in, because the thing
is is there's a hope springs eternal, right, and that's
what we do every single season. Hey, you know it
(10:18):
was Eco Tovar, he could really go to the next
level and I could talk that dot and talk to
these things. Hey, the starting rotation looks like it could go.
I would like to say those things and then be
able to back it up with more than just hope.
You know what I'm saying, And I think that's to
your point, like a concrete this is why it didn't work,
and this is what we're doing about it.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
YEP.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
So but until that happens, right now, we're just going
to sort of hope. There's that H word again.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Yeah, I tell you. R. J. Harvey was sixth on
the YEP chart. All right, so let's get to that
so breaking story. On Monday, we were.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Talking about some of the unofficial charts that.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Were being released.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
As you embark upon what I think is going to
happen here, this is a perfect reason why God gave
man an extra rib. I'm just going to say that
I do. Go ahead and do it. Your flexible little
ass would like to do.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
I do a lot of yoga.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Go ahead. Well, you know what it's going to be
evident in this next segment. Go ahead.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
So on Monday, Benjamin Albright was in studio I intro
to segment about how some of the unofficial depth charts
are being released around the NFL and the Broncos. Of course,
we knew there was coming out this week, and every
team does this before their first preseason game, so we
knew the Broncos were going to be releasing. We did
no win, but we thought it was going to be soon,
(11:36):
and we intro to segment talking about would there be
surprises on it all acknowledging it's mostly meaningless, but I
did say something that proved to be quite poignant, really
bordering got brilliance.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
See my previously uttered comment.
Speaker 4 (12:02):
Might be prophetic.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
It's I don't want to get lost to the weeds
on the descriptors here. I just too late, you know,
I'll just play the sound. This is This is what
happened on Monday. We were talking about the unofficial depth
chart hasn't come out for the Broncos just yet, but
if there was gonna be one position group that might
be a little bit surprised.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I do wonder if that's gonna be running back.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
And part of that is wondering because, well, first of all, RJ.
Harvey is a rookie, so maybe he's like third or
fourth team.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
You don't really believe that base in what your eyes
have told you in all the practice.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
That's not what's happening out there in the field. It's
just what the depth chart will say. Is that it'll
be JK. Dobbins like an odric estimate, maybe even like
Blake Watson in there before we get to.
Speaker 2 (12:49):
I'm just telling you absolutely, yeah, you think J.
Speaker 4 (12:53):
Harvey will be second team.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Absolutely, that's a rookie. Absolutely, he's been He's.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Been getting second and first team reps.
Speaker 1 (13:02):
I don't you know the steaks, So I gotta I'll
bet you a salad that uh r.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
J Harvey's RB two on the depth.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
Shows what we've been seeing, Caesar or whatever kind you want.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
I don't know which one is the be the gross
grandiose salad.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
Why why would I absolutely bet anything on.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
And mad greens, Wow we're living or whatever, or we
could just go to the backyard.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
And grays whatever. Yea gonna be running back to it.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
JK.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Dobbins, R. J. Harvey And then okay, that's the other
the one that would be in there.
Speaker 3 (13:39):
So you know what, that's a very telling comment because
you actually had a chance to wager, and yet you didn't.
And I think everything I said now that I've said
you're right.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Now I'm wrong. And then I listened to everything I said.
I think it was right. I think it was absolutely right.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
I said, I said, r J.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
Harvey, you're I said, you've been at camp. I've been
at camp. Your eyes, I'll speak for your eyes. Who's
saying your guess who?
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Uh? No, it's Peter Gabriel. No, well in your eyes
was no? No? Oh, in your eyes was Peter Gabriel.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
But oh you're no your I think that is hmm.
But I'm thinking of Peter Gabriel.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Now, so you okay, so you're right?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
After that?
Speaker 3 (14:26):
Well, I what I said was my eyes have told
me that R. J. Harvey has run pretty much strictly
with either the first team or the second team.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Very true.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Now, what I what I failed to take into consideration
is how Sean likes to do things. Every single rookie
in the draft class this year is at the bottom
of the barrel. So okay, okay, I should have taken
that into consideration and.
Speaker 4 (14:50):
Not admotiged me on air. That's well.
Speaker 3 (14:53):
No, I think what I tried to what I tried
to do is increase your football acumen. I tried to
I tried to build on and the substantial progress you
have made from where you once came to where you
are now in terms of when you see a football practice,
you know what you're watching.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I was just trying to I was trying to help you.
I still have a long way to go.
Speaker 4 (15:17):
I'll acknowledge that.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
No, you're actually you know what. We watched practice together.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
I mean you've got a pretty good understanding of what
the hell's going on out there.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
Very kind of you, And but but you what part
were you right on? That's what I'm still cheating. J.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
Harvey is running with the first or second team.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
True, we all three.
Speaker 3 (15:35):
I miscalculated and said, yes, he's going to be second
on the depth chart, because even you know that's where
he is. When that depth chart comes out and the
running back room sees it, even the guys that are
ahead of RJ.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
Harvey are going to say, yeah, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (15:52):
R J.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Harvey is going to be second on the depth chart.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
And he will, without knowing injuries or any of that stuff,
will be probably second on the team in touches running back?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Was us last year? Where was he on the original
depth chart? I don't remember what was he last he
was last okay, which again, should I should have taken
that in consideration.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
See that is me understanding.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
How football works. Is that is that where going?
Speaker 4 (16:20):
That is me saying I understand how Sean Payton works.
Speaker 3 (16:23):
It comes to the absolutely right, Yeah, on that absolutely right.
You understand Sean Payton's uh depth chart sort of process.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Gotta make the work.
Speaker 4 (16:34):
Rookies were earnest, right.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Yeah, a plaque is on your way.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I actually had a lot of fun though finding this
audio as I was listening. But I'm sure you did,
because well it would by the way, shout out for
our listeners who are phenomenal. I probably received like two
or three texts at about ten tweets as soon as
this thing came.
Speaker 4 (16:53):
Out and said, oh they are you're salad, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
Mad Greens and listen. I had a texture that was like, Dave,
you don't like Mad Gree's, I do like Magarines, because yeah,
I have. I have dined at Mad Greens, I would
say twenty plus times in my life.
Speaker 4 (17:08):
Yeah, it's it's really good.
Speaker 1 (17:09):
I mean, if you're in the mood for like a
sake or a burger, I probably wouldn't go there.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
But well that's why it's called mag Greene for you, right,
I mean.
Speaker 4 (17:16):
What's salad?
Speaker 1 (17:17):
No, I know it's I just remember that like when
I first went a Vegian, vegan vegetarian kind of thing, right,
I remember going to mad Greens and I needed something
more substantial, and I was like, this is just salad.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
This is this is just Look.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
My wife is like, we should go to mag Greens.
It's like okay, sure, yeah, we'll go try it out. Yeah,
and I and again I'm not trying to have them
proaction with Magreines. It's great, but I needed more because
you're when you're trying to figure out like what your
diet looks like when you stop eating meat, you.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Withdraw sweet, so brutal. Yeah, I do these sweets.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
Okay I shouldn't, but you know, so you don't eat
meat and you eat sweets, so you're probably you know,
the colon cancer thing is is okay god, but the
diabetes is firmly in play.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
All right.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
I mean I don't understand that is that the diet
You can have meat, I mean you can have sweets,
but no meat.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Yeah, are you cheating?
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Well no, it's not like I'm eating like bacon flavored candy.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
No, no, no, I'm saying, on your diet, you don't eat meat,
but you do eat sweets. Is that so when somebody
was going to do your diet, yes, would that be
what they would do or they'd be like, okay, he's
cheating on the sweets.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
I was supposed to eat the sweets.
Speaker 1 (18:31):
I say, for vegetarian, which is more of what I
am right now, that doesn't factor at all.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Well, what were you when we started working together? Wasn't vegetarian?
Because I asked you?
Speaker 4 (18:39):
Yeah, I was fitched.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
I mean I eat fish randomly, but like for the
most part, I just vegetarian meals. That's that's really what
I met. Okay, very good. Yeah, but the candy and
sweets all that. But back to this thing. Anyways, the
Fisher that chart did come out, I thought that was
kind of funny. That was a really funny exchange by us.
And once again, to further the point for both of us,
it's completely meaningless. Like really the bottom line and the
(19:02):
overwhelming response should be to this, because I know Sean.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
Feels this way. The fact that we have to put
this out is stupid.
Speaker 1 (19:10):
Yeah, and a really it's almost thumbing your nose because
the fact is also Jade Baron is like third team
on this thing, which.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Yeah, I saw that, Nicol. That's a new category too, Yeah,
his category.
Speaker 1 (19:21):
Yeah, So Nickel corner, you've got Ja Kwan, McMillan, Reese Taylor.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
So they got Reecee Taylor in front of Jadde Baron.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Which, again, anybody with eyes who's been to practice would
know that that's just not correct.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Except those with the last name of Taylor. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:35):
With all apologies to the Reese Taylor family out there
who listened to the show and probably are like, hey, hey,
what the tide.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
End you're looking at it? I'm not.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Yeah, Evan Ingram, Adam Troutman, Nate Atkins, Lucas Croll, Kayla Blowner, Okay,
probably actually pretty close. Yeah, I would agree, although Lucas
Kroll didn't getting close to that bubble there, buddy, just
saying yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
I know.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
I I would say you could call him a bubble
player this year for sure. I'm not saying he's not
gonna make it, but I think I think he's on
the bubble.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
I thought it would be fun him him in the
next segment maybe to kind of as we have a
sort of stoppagen camp for us here locally.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
Of course, they're gonna practice in the joint practice tomorrow.
With the forty years, I thought it'd be kind of.
Speaker 1 (20:19):
Fun to do sort of a stock watch, stock up,
stock down, But more so like guys that you think
have sort of stood out based on your expectations going
into camp, and then guys maybe you'd like to see
a little bit more when it comes to say, the
preseason games and next week in the final week of
training camp.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
What do you think about that?
Speaker 3 (20:35):
Yeah, I mean, I think, I mean, I'm I'm anxious
to call this game on Saturday Night. My guess is
nobody Nobody's told me this.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
My guess is.
Speaker 3 (20:46):
You may see the starters play a little a little
bit longer than we've grown accustomed to, even in the
era of three preseason games for game number one.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
But they're gonna be a handful of players.
Speaker 3 (21:03):
I mean, the wide receiver position to me is still
really really interesting, right that.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
What's that going to look like?
Speaker 3 (21:09):
And if you're gonna you know, your fourth and fifth
guy generally speaking, have to be have to be special
teams guys too. So does that give Trent Sherfield a
