Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Broncos winning tonight thirty to nine, and yeah, well
we'll have a lot to break down over the next
hour and forty five minutes. Three oh three seven one,
three eighty five eighty five is our phone line. Our
hotline presented by Broncos partner Common Spirit Health, where patients
experienced both clinical and excellence in human kindness. You can
(00:22):
give us called there, hit us up on the Kai
Commas Speer Health text line five six six nine zero.
I'm Ryan Ewards live from the Smashburger sports desk with
a new four ninety nine menu featuring the single All
American Burger, single De Luxe Burger, and new Americana Big Dog.
We got all sorts of things flying in here on
the text line. I'm sure there's gonna be a lot
of hot takes this evening as we go into the night.
(00:44):
It is preseason. I want to remind you guys, it
is preseason. So yeah, quick cursory thoughts, and I thought
Dave and Rick did a really good job sort of
summing it all up. The offense maybe not quite as
crisp as you'd like to see at this point, but
that doesn't mean that they can't battle back. You know,
we often say this is a week to week league,
but it's even more evident in the preseason. Not trying
(01:06):
to make excuses for anybody, because as soon as next week,
if the offense looks sharper against Arizona, well we're swinging
back the other way. And then all of a sudden,
it's like, wow, what do we forget about what happened
in the forty nine ers. This team is more evident
that they have everything together. You know, the defense gave
up the long drive, really the fifty yard pass completion
Jakwan going for the well not interception, but the PBu
(01:30):
missed ended up being a fifty yard completion. They scored
a couple plays later, so that's what it is. But
then the first team defense really stifled Mac Jones in
the offense the rest of the way. The defense got
four turnovers tonight, Right, it's hard to be upset about
the way they performed, I think for the offense, and
once the second and third team got in there, they
obviously were able to do some mop up duty. But
(01:50):
the first team offense is what everybody, I think, over
the rest of the week is going to be talking about.
Got another joint practice with Arizona coming up on Thursday,
so of course have reports all throughout the next week
or so on what they're doing. But yeah, I think
I think there's gonna be a lot of things said tonight.
And just reminder, you know, hey, this may be your
first opportunity to see the Broncos since last year when
(02:15):
they played the Buffalo Bills. You've been following along with
the reports from myself, from Dave Logan, from everybody out
of training camp, and maybe your assessment was that this
offense was going to click right away.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
There's some inconsistencies.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Simply put, there are some inconsistencies with the offensive performance
even during the course of training camp. So a little
of this isn't too surprising for me. But as we
sit here today, it doesn't mean you can't expect more,
especially as the forty nine ers weren't playing starters. So
we're off and really here on a beautiful Saturday night
(02:50):
here in the Mile High City, and we're gonna take
your calls three on three seven one, three eighty five,
eighty five and on the text line five six, six
nine zero. Today's game brought to you by col Raidins
First cossible energy development developing calros energy. Learn more at
cred dot org. That is creed dot org. We'll be
right back on the KOI Broncos Radio network. I'm Ryan Edwards.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Three oh three seven one, three eighty five eighty five.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
We're on till midnight. If you guys want to hang
with me all the way to midnight, that's great. If
you don't, that's cool. We'll we'll have fun either way.
We're gonna have a lot of fun breaking this thing down.
The Broncos did win today thirty to nine, but the
reaction I'm seeing so far in the text line as
well as on Twitter is a little bit mixed and
understand understand.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
I think that there's again, you have expectations.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
When your head coach says things like, hey, this could
be a super Bowl team and bo Nix has a
chance in the next couple years to be a top
five quarterback.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Those are the things you want to see and we
saw some of that.
Speaker 1 (03:41):
A's at least for the defense and the second team offense,
but the first team offense was uh yeah, I think
a little bit of a letdown. I think that's fair
way to characterize it. But let's get some calls. I
got a lot of text coming in. I'll read some
of those as well as we roll on, and we're
on till midnight. Let's go to Donald first here on
Broncos Reann. What's up, Donald, Hey, I'm having a good
(04:05):
time watching the game.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
Defense was excellent and that's to me, did real well.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Too, Completely agree. I liked estimate.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
I thought the running backs in general, I mean, I
Blake Watson looked really good, Odrick Estimay, I thought Tyler
Biday had a couple of nice runs. R J.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Harvey had an eleven yard carry in there.
Speaker 1 (04:27):
So I actually thought of the things we didn't really
know about coming into this game, which was the rushing attack.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
I thought there was a lot to build off there.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, I take care of going to do real well
this shirt Gobancos.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
All right, thank you, Donald, I appreciate it. Thanks for
the call. Yeah again.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
You know you rushed for one hundred and fifty three yards. Now,
some of that s Jared Stidham scrambling for thirty six.
He led the team in scrambles. But you had five
carries for thirty two from Tyler Biday, four for twenty
eight for Blake Watson, RJ had seven for twenty five,
Odric estimate eight for twenty one. You know you didn't
get a carry out of JK. Dobbins tonight. You know
what he's capable of. So again, it's not to say
(05:08):
that you hit every you checked every box you wanted
to tonight. But if there's one that I wanted to
see more of that we didn't have any information on
whatsoever was the running game. I'm pleasantly surprised by that.
People will focus on bo Nicks. Certainly coming out of
this game. The offensive line in pass pro had their issues.
There's no denying that fact. That's going to be another
(05:28):
big topic this week is what's going on with the
interior of the offensive line.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
But but for.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
As far as run blocking, as far as the execution there,
and of course, like we said, the defense was great.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Alex, you're up.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
Next to Broncos. React three oh three seven one, three
eighty five, eighty five. We're on until midnight. What's up, Alex?
Speaker 3 (05:45):
How are you doing?
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Ryan?
Speaker 2 (05:46):
I'm good man? Happy uh happy football season to you.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
Oh yeah, football season has begin, you know, Ryan, I
felt like I saw a lot of Poe drag swags
happened with Trent Shepherdson and then also pick it with
his interception, which I thought I was phenomenal. But I
think I noticed when I was looking at the Broncos
when they were running their offense for first team. I
understand it's preseason, but I understand that Sean Painted I
(06:11):
saw he was running a lot of play action and
a lot of RPO actions. I just didn't feel like
it was like the true offense like I saw last year,
where like Bonix was more like gun formation and then
all four receiver sets and then they would go down
the field and throw deep. And that's what I was
kind of wondering about. And then also about the running backs.
This is a loaded running back class that we have
(06:33):
like six running backs. I'm wondering if George paid in
seat that he's in right now. He returned eighty six
percent of the players from last year. I'm wondering, could
he get some trade value after the third preseason game
with Jared did him because Jared didn't balled out good
value for that.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Like, yeah, it's a crazy question.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
Hold one second, let me let me sort of answer, well,
honest to that one first, No, no, they're not going
to trade Jards did specifically because they he's a very
good insurance policy for this team because if if Bonicks
something would happen to him, you had turned to Sam
Ellinger and he's not ready to be a full time quarterback.
So you want to have a safety situation there with
(07:12):
your backup quarterback. And that's why Jared Siddam was on
this roster. Plus he works really well in the quarterback
room with bo Nix, and I thought he's had a
pretty good camp overall, Like he has had some really
nice moments out of training camp. But Bonix still represents
a much higher ceiling. So you're not gonna You're just
not gonna mess with that. Some people will probably text
in tonight saying that there should be quarterback controversy. There
just isn't. It's not a discussion that we need to
(07:34):
get into. The running backs look great. What are you
talked about, Trent Sherfield? What was the other thing that
you that you talked about? Oh?
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Pickt about the toe dracks. I thought a lot of
close plays if the toes moving in the end zone.
I thought that was just excellent. And there was just
everybody who was in communication Vj's defense. They were running
a lot of blitzing. I think they're gonna blitz way
more this year. I think they're gonna blitz around like
between forty five to fifty five percent.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Okay last year. Yeah, you know, you might be onto that, Alex,
and we'll sort of watch how that goes.
Speaker 1 (08:05):
You know, preseason is a little interesting too, And I
thought it was an interesting comment from a Bonix after
the game that there was some looks and some blitzes
that they didn't expect to see tonight. That's a good thing, honestly.
That's say Robert Salaz thrown some stuff at bon Nix
in this offense. That's only gonna help them get better.
And yeah, you might be right.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
Well, we'll see what that ultimately looks like.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
And maybe that was more retaliatory from Vance Joseph when
they started to blitz our quarterback. But we'll we'll suss
that out as the week goes on. I remember the
point you were making. You were talking about we saw
some more RPOs tonight and some more emotion. Yeah, they've
been building some of that into the offense. I think
some of that is kind of what bone Nicks is
(08:46):
asking for. As far as I understand it. I think
bon Nix is asking for some of that, the RPO stuff,
and to sort of build off of that, and the
motion stuff I think is just more added on dressing
that they've they've wanted to run and it's just now
kind of coming to fruition now that we're sort of
in the second year of this thing. But that is
an interesting point that you brought up, Blake. Let's go
(09:09):
next to Blake.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Here on Broncos React with Ryan Edwards bron Till Midnight.
W's up Blake.
Speaker 5 (09:15):
Him the defense looks amazing for the Denver Blancos.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I completely agree.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, I mean that it's one of those things that
they gave up that long drive to begin but then
they sort of buckled down and you saw the talent
show up for sure.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Anything else, Blake.
Speaker 5 (09:36):
Yeah, I'm Willie. Thank you for the Blanco season and
I'm going to call him every week.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Okay, all right, Blake, we appreciate that. Thank you very much.
Have a good night.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I'm excited for the Broncos season too.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
And there's nothing that happened tonight that I'll be completely fair,
there was nothing that was going to happen short of
an injury that was going to really disappoint me in
a preseason game. I'm just letting y'all know now that
can be viewed in a couple of different ways from
you guys. Maybe you look at it and say, well,
that's more than glass half full.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
I be fine. That's end of how I tend to be, right, But.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I didn't expect a lot tonight, and I sort of
just wanted to see how it all played out. You'll
be watching weeks of training camp. We've been out there
every single practice they'd allow us to be at OTA's.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
You get a sense of what you think this team
is going to be.
Speaker 1 (10:24):
And then you go out there and you say, okay,
well now you're playing against another team. Let's see what
sort of looks like. And then I want to watch
it on the film tomorrow. I'll kind of pour through
it before we have Monday show. For Krie Sports usually
like the second watch because they usually pick up some things.
But yeah, that'll be something I'm watching. Specifically when it
comes to the offense, the way they operated, why it
seemed like Boonix was not seeing things as cleanly as
(10:48):
you like. Certainly the placement of the ball, I think
was a little bit of a concern. Didn't quite wasn't
quite on the same page with a couple of his receivers.
That stuff that you want to sort of iron out.
A couple of texts coming in on the Kae Comma
Spirit Health text line five six six nine zero again
or Broncos Football is presented by Ramo's Law, official injury
law firm, partner of the Denver Broncos. This one, it's
(11:10):
all going to boil down to how the offensive line
can protect the quarterback. I would expect that JK. Dobbins
would start as a running back because he can block him.
Feeling now, I'm feeling now that the center is a
very very weak link and it worries me. We talked
a lot about a lot about that yesterday on KA
Sports when we had been all right in and I,
you know, doing some research and talking to some people
(11:31):
out there at San Francisco. That was viewed a bit
as the weak link out there too. So I don't
know what other options you have. You're kind of at
a point here in the preseason. Maybe you see somebody
out there that you can make a trade for, or
maybe there's somebody that gets cut that gives you some
more options, but Alex Forsyth.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
In my opinion, is the only other.
Speaker 1 (11:54):
Potential option, and honestly, I don't think i'd go there.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I still think Wattenberg is better.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
I think Forsyth is a little bit better for you
in the run, but his pass pros is still a
work in progress, so you're not You're not really in
a position to make a shift or change there just yet.
So Wattenberg, for what it's worth to represents the best
to what you have. But there was some pressure up
the middle tonight that needs to be fixed, that absolutely
needs to be fixed. Sternad, just like last year, made
(12:21):
an impact in the first quarter. Love that guy Todd
from Centennial. Yeah he had the TfL on the first
drive and then of course did things didn't go well
after that, But yeah, I like Sternad. I mean he's
he's a very solid inside linebacker. He definitely doesn't have
the ceiling that you're looking for with a starting inside linebacker,
but he offers a lot there for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
Broncos are in the conversation.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
Rookies looked great, agreed, Pat Bryant made several plays tonight.
RJ Harvey looked good. Joshua Pickett's rookie. He had an
interception tonight. Boy, you had to Kelly. He had a
lot of young players. Saveon Jones came up with a
fumble recovery that was a big play. Trying to think,
I mean there was. Cordy Jackson had a nice punt return.
(13:02):
Kareem Reid had an interception. Oh, and Priester the precourt, sorry,
the tight end.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
He ended up with a with a touchdown. So yeah,
you had.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
Ad a lot of plays today from the rookies, so
very good stuff.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Oh.
Speaker 1 (13:17):
Jadon Robinson also had a tackle that stopped a fourth down,
So yeah, some good stuff tonight. One more call and
then we'll take a little quick break. Three on three
seven one, three eighty five, eighty five.
Speaker 2 (13:27):
John North, Carolina, what's up, John Man?
Speaker 6 (13:32):
I have missed you, my friend. How are you doing, Ryan.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
I'm fantastic, my friend. It's good to hear your voice.
Speaker 6 (13:38):
Man. He was hilarious otherday listening to you and Dave
Logan talk about you walking to the grocery store for
your daughters with the flannel shirt and I goot ran
off to I forty. Oh my goodness, it was hilarious.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Man.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
Yeah, he was killing me, Ryan.
Speaker 6 (13:56):
But we can't thresk you better flannel shirt, come home, man, listen.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
And I told him off Mike. Before we I didn't
know he was gonna bring it on air for real.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
And I told him off Mike as I was sitting here,
you know, in our studio, which is air conditioned. It's
very nice, and I was sitting here with my flannel
and and I said today today was a day that
I feel like I made a mistake in the way
I dressed myself.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
And and he was like, oh really.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
I said, yeah, I wore flannel walking to the grocery
store and it was too hot. And he's like, you wouldn't.
You don't say, it's the middle of summer. You're walking
to the grocery store in flannel. And then so he
decided to bring it on air, and obviously I got roasted.
But I appreciate that, John, I do.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
My takeaway was you went you did it for your dollars.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
I did, yes, I just wasn't thinking.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
They said they wanted certain foods and I just walked
to the grocery store because.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
I want to take I was like to know the
guy like, how do you get back with the ice tream?
Speaker 2 (14:49):
I walked fast.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
Oh my god, hey man, I'll be brief. I know
you got a lot of people lyned it. But by
the way, I'm coming to Denver for a whole week
for the Giants Marias Thomas homecoming weekend. I hope I
can teach you somehow. I drink or beer with you.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (15:05):
I'll be there for a whole week from North Carolina.
But anyway, about the game tonight, I'm not worried about nothing.
I mean, We're gonna be fine. This is why you
have preseason games, you know, to work the kinks out.
We got some great pieces. Sean Payton's is gonna do it.
I went up to a friend of mine at the
beach Club tonight. Oh my god, did I tell you
(15:28):
Ryan we have good looking team women in North Carolina?
Speaker 7 (15:30):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 6 (15:32):
Yeah. And he's the Saints fan And he said, oh,
that's John Dickens. He's the Bronco guy. I said, who's
your quarterback for the Saints.
Speaker 3 (15:39):
He's like, uh, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
He said, you sold my coach. I said, no, we
didn't see your coach. They're jealous of us. Ryan, the
media is talking about the Broncos again every day you
mentioned it on your show. We're relevant again. We're gonna
be fine. We're gonna be fine, and Broncos Country just
needs to pump the break, but we're gonna be fine.
(16:05):
And like I was telling the guy the Anxious phones
Kaway Radio, the coverage y'all give to people in North Carolina, Denver.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
Wherever you're at in the world.
Speaker 6 (16:16):
Just rocks. And uh, we got to get rhyme some different.
We got to get you some shores man. John. Anyway,
I love hearing your voice, Man, and I'll hang up
and listen to your comments. But I think I would
love to see you guys when I'm out there in October.
But I hang up and listen.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
John always appreciate it. Ben, It's great to hear your voice.
And yeah, it's Broncos. Re actually know when John calls in,
it's always good stuff there.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
And yeah, I could do better crossing myself as an adult.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
I can admit that I like pants. I just like pants.
I mean I do like pants. I'm not a shorts person.
I've been well documented not a shorts person. Rusty, John,
hang in there, we get to you.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
On the other side the break, Rusty wants to talk
about the quarterback controversy.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
That should be fun five six six nine zeros a

Speaker 7 (18:03):
You know first, I just have to say I think
that a Southern accent is a cultural treasure of the
United States of America.
Speaker 1 (18:10):
I love perfectly said Rusty. Yeah, John, Johnathan of those
things like that. Yeah, before I mean, like all I
see is John North Carolina. I'm like, ah, yeah, John,
I know.
Speaker 7 (18:21):
Sound But and is there anyone out there that can
prove that Jared Stidham and bon Nicks didn't trade jerseys
where the game started sort of.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
Like a Scooby Doo with the bask like like it's like, oh,
it's it's you the whole time.
Speaker 7 (18:39):
That's Seriously, if if it kind of plays out like
this week and next week, I think we might have
a quarterback controversy.
Speaker 6 (18:48):
On our hands.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Oh Rusty, Well, I knew it had to be asked todight,
I'll say I'll say no, and without without like laughing
it off the air, I'll say no.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
I'd say more than anything that you would have to
be that.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Sean Payton believes bo Nix's is mentally bogged down somehow, right,
he needs to reset. But again there's nothing that happened
tonight or otherwise that we've seen a training camp that
leads me to that it just felt like they needed
to play more crisp. I mean, the POY was brought
up and with Dave and Rick beforehand about hey, maybe
(19:22):
as a response, you know, the Broncos. By many people's accounts,
the Broncos beat as well as the forty nine ers
be kind of won that practice on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
So there's a possibility here that the forty nine.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Ers really wanted to get their retribution tonight in the game,
especially early on, they kind of got yelled at by
their coaches, They came out with their hair on fire,
all those kinds of things. It still doesn't excuse some
of the off throws from the offense, the offensive line struggling,
especially with the pressures. There's certainly things that need to
be cleaned up. No doubt about him not making any excuses.
(19:55):
But to answer your question, no, I don't think so.
But I do think that there's gosh, you know, you
don't want to see more than one week of this.
You'd like to see a bounce back before those conversations happen.
Speaker 7 (20:06):
Yeah, and I do think I do think bo Nicks
is our is our future, and we're going to have
We got a ride with him and not at all
afraid to ride ride with him. But you know, some
of the things that also looked good, statistics or drops
or balls that could have been caught and weren't caught.
So it's not all on him, it's in the offense general.
(20:28):
That first first team just looked kind of sloppy, particularly
like you said, the blocking.
Speaker 3 (20:33):
And very much everything.
Speaker 1 (20:34):
Yeah, well, that's exactly right. They look sloppy for sure, rusty,
But did I'm looking I.
Speaker 7 (20:39):
Mean, he was amazing. Let's not just talk badly about bo.
I mean, did him look like frickin He was amazing?
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Yeah, he I mean, look, he got out there, he
looked confident.
Speaker 1 (20:50):
I mean, he's he's a good backup, right, And and
that's not even meant to be a pejorative.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I'm not even trying to talk smack about him.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Say like, there's a reason why not only did Sean
Payton Price prioritize him when it was the early stages
of free agency his first year when he got here,
but then he prioritized him again this year in free agency.
They really like Jared Stidham, but they don't like him
that way. I think that they view him as as
a really solid, good quarterback room guy that if for
(21:17):
something happened to your starter, then you could turn to
Jared Stidham and you keep the offense on the rails.
Speaker 7 (21:22):
Yeah then, I mean, wasn't he like thirteen and fourteen
and no interceptions and two touchdowns and pretty good numbers?
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yeah, I'm actually fourteen to fifteen. Man, you discounted him.
Speaker 3 (21:31):
I'm just kidding.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
Sorry, that's all right, Thanks for the time. Yeah, it's rusty.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
Nice. I like that. The y'aol.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
That's good.
Speaker 6 (21:44):
John.
Speaker 1 (21:45):
You're up next on Broncos React with Ryan Edwards three
O three seven one three eighty five eighty five.
Speaker 2 (21:49):
What's up, John?
Speaker 3 (21:51):
Yeah, what's up?
Speaker 5 (21:52):
Man?
Speaker 3 (21:52):
How are you doing?
Speaker 2 (21:53):
I'm doing great. Thanks for calling in, Thanks for having
me listen.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
I keep thinking, and I keep hearing all these conversations
about the defense and the running backs and and and
bow performing, et cetera, et cetera, and I don't hear
anything about the wide receivers, and so I just wanted
to pick your brain about that, Like, how do you
(22:18):
think they did? What do you think they need? To
do in the future to be a little bit more successful.
But yeah, you know, they're obviously they came out with
a very strong first game, So what do they need
to do to get moving along? And I think the
(22:40):
wide receivers are a huge part of that.
Speaker 1 (22:42):
So sure, sure, No, it's a great point, John, it
is a great point. Thank you for the call. Yeah,
you know, I think and I get to go back
and watch. I remember Cortland a sudden it seem like
he had a drop in the game if he hey,
if use your wide receiver one that that just really
can't happen.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
You know, I had to go see.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
I just thought there were a couple of times from
memory here that there were open receivers and Bonix wasn't
seeing them.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
So what's the function of that?
Speaker 1 (23:09):
Is it? Because the pressure, it's just tough to know, right,
I mean, but you're right, there's more that a lot
of players can do to help bone knicks and then
help the offense.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
And we've been lauding the.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Wide receiver depth throughout the entire offseason. Honest, I think
that that continues here. I mean, you're thinking about you know,
Trent Sherfield, who I think for a lot of people
as an afterthought because you thought he was brought in
here to be a special teams ace. Well he could
do that too, But he also had three catches for
seventy three yards in the touchdown. As you guys know,
Pat Bryant had two for twenty one. Blake Watson, of course,
(23:43):
you know the running backs are going to be heavily
involved in the past game, but Troy had three catches.
Courtney Jackson, who did some returns tonight, he had a
couple of catches in there. So you know, you think,
like in the second preseason game, they're gonna have the
joint practice on Thursday with Arizona, and you think in
the second preseason game you'll see more run from the
first team. Right, this was we want to we want
(24:06):
to find some footing, have some successes and get these
guys out of there because you don't want to risk
any injuries, and that really tends to be the biggest
box you want to check right off the bat, and
I think the Broncos did a pretty good job. We
found out about Matt Hennison, but that was an injury
during the joint practice. He's going to have an achille
surgery he's done for the season. But you know, more
(24:28):
than anything, when you get into this next preseason game,
the expectation goes up for everybody because you don't even
know if I were going to play them in the
third preseason game or not. But secually, in the second
preseason game, Bo Knicks and that team might get a
half of football and they probably need it at this point.
And maybe that's a good thing, right, Maybe this performance
in the first preseason game, as flawed as it was,
(24:51):
gives you an opportunity to say, we.
Speaker 2 (24:53):
Have more work to do before we're ready for the
regular season.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Because certainly, and we can all agree on this, and
it's not even a hot take to say, if you
play anything like that, you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
Lose to Tennessee at home. I mean, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (25:03):
I am a chance to watch cam Ward in that
first team Tennessee offense tonight, but I guarantee, just to
about anybody in the NFL, even with your great defense,
you have a significant chance of losing games if your
offense plays like it did and is inconsistent like it did.
So but there's things to build off of. It doesn't
mean that it was all bad. The running game I
(25:24):
thought had some really nice moments.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Even with RJ.
Speaker 1 (25:26):
Harvey out there, still got to be better in pass pro,
but there were some nice moments for him, nice moments
for Audric, nice moments for Tyler Boday. Certainly Blake Watson.
I'm excited about him. I've been excited about Blake Watson.
I thought, I thought he really showed some of the
best stuff tonight. Four carries for twenty eight yards and
then he had that catch and run for sixteen. He
had eighteen yard carry and then a sixteen yard catch
(25:46):
and run. I think I mean that right there is
is pretty special. The running back depth aside, there's things
that you want to just improve on overall, and that's
what we're going to be looking for in the next
preseason game. And you know you got that sense from
Box and Sean Payton in there postgame press conferences as
well as interviews with Voice the Broncos Dave Logan.
Speaker 2 (26:07):
We'll get to all that coming up here on the
other side.
Speaker 1 (26:09):
Three zero three seven one, three eighty five eighty five
five six nine zeros or KWA common spread health text
line couple texts here very quickly here, How is bo
bogged down? Ryan, come on, No, I'm not saying he is.
I'm saying that the question was, would it be a
QB controversy if Jared Stidham went out there and played
(26:32):
the same way and say Bo Nicks struggled. I'd say
that if for some reason he's mentally that the processors
bogged down, is the point I'm trying to make, then
Sean might have to make that call. But I but
again that that is not me saying that or predicting
that's going to happen. I don't think that's gonna happen.
I think bo Knicks in the offense is going to
(26:52):
look a lot better this next week.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
That's my prediction.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
But the caller was asking me to paint us in
which there is a controversy, and that's the only thing
that can come up with is if he's mentally bogged
down and Sean needs to give him a reset.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
But I just don't think that's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (27:08):
My prediction is Bonix and the offense have a significant
bounce back and a lot of these conversations and some
of the hot takes them seeing on Twitter pretty much
go away. Let's hear Ryan Dani you gotta sell that
flannel heat walk as a workout, and on the way
you realize you could go out of your way.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
To get what your kids needed.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Yeah, that's that's it could be like that, right, I
mean some people do that, they put the hoodies on.
I've definitely done this before where I it's hot, I
put the hoodie on and I put a weight to
vest on and I go out and get a little
extra work in.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Make sure you hydrate. I did not hydrate.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
That's the worst part is I like did not do
a good job hydrating before I walked out into the
sun with a black flannel on.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
I got to be better at adulting. That's a that's
a truth for statement. All right, More texts, more calls
coming up next. You're listening to the KWA Bronco radio network.
