Speaker 1 (00:00):
When I went a quick three and now for the
Broncos defense, the offense gets the ball back if it
was an eighteen yard completion and Trent sure Field to
set up thirty six yarder. But anyways, it was that
was an unbelievable throw. But this one for Lucas Croll,
I mean, that's it's funny. How again, if your box
score reading this thing, you go, boy, Jared Sidham fourteen
to fifteen, one hundred and thirty six yards and two touchdowns. Man, God,

(00:24):
he's way better than bo Nicks. And then it's like, well,
he played more snaps, significantly more snaps, not making excuses,
but Boonix didn't give nearly as many opportunities. And yeah,
if he got to see Lucas Croll wide open in
the course of the end, so I think he's going to.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Hit him there too. But it's thirt day, is what
it is.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Three oh three seven one, three eighty five eighty five
five six six nine zeros A kay with common Spirit
health text. I we'll hear from Sean Payton and Boenicks
here in just a little bit. I will also take
a look at the NFL scoreboard coming up. We're on
till midnight, So we got another hour to go with
you guys. So we'll look at the NFL scoreboard. We'll
kind of go through and come through some of the
storylines coming out this busy day, busy day in the preseason.

(01:06):
The question on the Kawai Commaspear health text line was
Evan Ingram a healthy scratch because I figured he would
need his reps seeing that he's new. I do remember
seeing him, but I mean he certainly he wasn't targeted
in the game. You know again, I'll have to go
back and watch that. That doesn't jump out to me
as seeing him on the field. But again, it doesn't

(01:26):
mean he wasn't. It just means he wasn't targeted. Did
Bulls seventy two play tonight?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
He did.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Let's see here, what excuses do you have for bow tonight?
Maybe he should make Russ like video of him getting
back to the grind. That's a lot of snark for
a first preseason game.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
I oh my, there are a.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Lot of people that are waiting for Bownicks to fail.
I was giving been a bunch of hard like a
hard time earlier because he was sitting around kind of
Mick Jagger peacocking around the studio about kind of told
you guys that this team wasn't you know, doing a
great job and everyone to get excited, and of course
you're doing that wet blanket, all right, exactly, Like of

(02:16):
course Ben is doing that. And I'm sure he'll have
some opportunity this week. He'll be on KWIE Sports a
couple of times. He'll be on Broncos Country tonight, as
he typically is, and he'll say, guys, I told you
there the interior of the offensive line and bow Knicks
and so on and so forth. But hey, it's a
preseason game, just like last year when we were excited
about what we saw with bow Nix in the preseason,

(02:37):
and then we were told to tamp that down because
it was kind of an artificial thing. They were scripting
plays for bow Nicks when you don't typically do that
in the preseason.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
YadA, YadA, YadA.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So here on the other side, I mean, I think
you just gotta be fair, that's all.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
You can't.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
If we can't be excited about how Bonis played in
the preseason last year, we certainly shouldn't get upset when
he has some struggle moments in the very first preseason game.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Doesn't that seem fair? Does to me?

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Anyways, I really do believe he's gonna show up better.
I think the offense will show up entirely different in
the next preseason game. But until then, we'll have a
whole week to break this down. There's gonna be a
lot of people out there, Broncos fans and media. We're
gonna have some takes out there. We'll see what what
they ultimately think. And then the stark about him doing

(03:27):
the video, I don't know that that's been a weird thing.
I'm not exactly sure why that upsets so many people
watching bo Nicks in the off season at the beginning
of July putting together a video. He doesn't have a
video entourage or anything like that. I mean, it's not
a Russ. It doesn't strike me as a rough kind

(03:48):
of thing. Now, Russ also does videos in the off season. Okay,
there's a lot of guys that do videos in the
off season. I didn't actually have too much of a
problem with Russ doing it in the off season or otherwise.
I mean, if he's playing great foot, who cares, right?
Botis played mostly great football last year, So if he
would have had somebody follow him around and videotaping in.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
It's like, okay, man, you're still playing great.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Now to do the Quarterbacks show on Netflix, so they
have a camera crew following Joe Burrow round. Joe Burrow
had an MVP caliber season last year for one for
his defense and that right grant Joe Burr. Let's pause
ten seconds for station identification. You're listening to the KWA
Broncos radio network.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Broncos the preseason opener go on Koway Denver eight MM five.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Six six nine zero KWAI coma Spirits health text line
or three h three seven one three eighty five eighty five.
This one I know is old. Jordan Humphrey caught a
touchdown for the Giants.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
kJ Hammler also caught a touchdown today for the Bills
in the same game. There was a lot of former
Broncos making plays today. It was kind of fun to watch.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I mean, you never know, Oh wow, these guys. Greg
Dulcis was catching passes. Never know what these guys are
gonna be able to do with their career. Certainly not
rooting against them. I was rooting against Russ for a while.
But not because the video stuff. More because he wasn't
as advertised, He didn't play up to the standard of
the contract that he signed here and that the Broncos
traded for, and then the Broncos were on the hook

(05:22):
for a couple of years that we're going to be
the detriment of the team. How you make the playoffs,
that softens that a little bit, and then you're paying
a little less of the dead cap this year. That
helps as well. And he's also not in the AFC.
That does help too, like he's in the NFC with
the New York Giants. But last year I was I
was bitter. Yeah, I admit it. Three oh three seven,

(05:46):
three eighty five, eighty five, five six six nine Zeros
Kerrie covaspird health text line, Rick in Utah, what's up?
Wreck You're on Broncos react with Ryan Edward?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
How are you? Rick?

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Doing great? Right? Thanks for taking my call. I appreciate it, yes, sir.
First of all, I love listening to you guys. I
appreciate what you guys do. I wish you guys would
get into YouTube a little bit. I to be able
to watch you guys do stuff. But I am curious
about Nick. I'm sitting here watching him tonight, and he

(06:22):
had that one possession, that defensive possession where he basically
was a one man wrecking crew and took out the
entire offense. It seemed like, and I'm thinking, how much
are we going to at to pay this guy? Can
we afford him? What's the what's your thoughts on that?

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (06:40):
I mean listen, he had the sack and then the
very next play him in JFM combined for a sack.
You got two guys that are both looking for contracts.
As far as I understand it, they've offered. I feel
like for Nick Benito, he wants to see where the
Micah Parsons and Hendrickson deals come in and then he's
going to decide from there, which I don't blame him

(07:03):
like that.

Speaker 2 (07:03):
That's going to increase the number.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
He's not going to get the forty million per like
like Micaeh Parsons or TJ. Watt or Miles Garrett gets.
He's going to be kind of in the next tier.
But this raises the average, which is only going to
help his number. So the Broncos, they justifiably did the
right thing and they said, hey, we want to we
want to sign you to extension. They gave him an offer,
and he now is has that offer in front of him.

(07:27):
But if he's being smart about it, which I think
he is, he's going to let his play continue to
drive off the price.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
And that's what I think is happening.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
So if you look at the numbers, how in the
world can the Broncos afford that going forward? You know
they're gonna have to play pay ball in a couple
of years. Yeah, as of right now, they got twelve
million in cap space for next year. I know we're
going to get more, and I know that they can
mess with contracts, but actually they kind of pretty close
to the bone. I'm I'm wondering how they can afford

(07:59):
him without doing what happened in New Orleans.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Well, the reason they can afford it, And you're right,
that's something to pay attention to, right because Sean is
kind of running the helm of this thing. Yeah, you know,
you're trying to put yourself in position to maximize this
window with bo, but understand that after next year, because
usually if your first round quarterback plays up to a
certain standard, you pay them after three years the whole Hey,

(08:24):
we got them a first rounder, and we have a
fifth year option that doesn't exist anymore. You don't do
that with your quarterback. So, as you're pointing out correctly,
after three years, that's when you're paying him. So really
the ideal spot is to load up as much as
you can into next year and pay out as much
stuff as you can to give yourself a nice runway
with bo Nix's contract. So I imagine that's kind of

(08:46):
going to be the mindset. If they can get this
deal done when they can, they'll they'll try to structure
everything to be paid out in twenty twenty six, so
that way in twenty twenty seven, when they're getting into
the bon Nix years of his contract, then they'll be
able to have some flight ability.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Still.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
Well, I hope it works out, but right now I'm
gonna go Bronco is gonna enjoy this season.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, any time, Rick, thank you so much for the call.

Speaker 1 (09:10):
Three oh three seven, one, three eighty five, eighty five, five, six,
six ninety zero. We are gonna take a quick break
here and we'll come back and get to more of
your reactions. Some of our network stations are leaving US,
but you can continue to listen at Broncos Radio network
dot com or on the iHeartRadio app. Broncos React will
continue after this on the KWA Broncos Radio Network three
oh three seven one three eighty five eighty five five

(09:31):
six six nine zeros KWA Commas Spirit Health text line.
We'll hear from Sean Payton and George Payton, Sean Payton
and bo Nix here in just a matter of moments.
But yeah, I was seeing on the scoreboard a moment
ago that Cam Woard actually had a pretty nice night's overall,
got his box score. They were showing some highlights here

(09:52):
five of a for sixty seven yards, no sacks, and
Calvin Ridley I think caught all three passes from him
three fifty yards. They ended up scoring a touchdown. They
are only touchdown on that drive. Tony Pollard ended up
getting that. They lose to Tampa Bay to Night twenty
nine to seven. But again, that's like one of those deals,

(10:13):
like are you gonna come away from that game being
completely down on anything about the Tennessee Titans. Not really,
And maybe part of that is expectation. Sure, Titans are
not expected to be a great team. But if you're
doing the Titans post game right now, you'd say, hey, man,
we saw some stuff from camp Ward tonight. Looking forward

(10:34):
to that connection between cam Ward and Calvin Ridley this year.
We'll see what they can do when given the opportunity.
Want to see more of obviously Bonix and Cortloss said,
but we know what that looks like. Definitely want to
see some Bonix and Evan Ingram. We've been seeing a
lot of that in the practice field. You guys haven't
had a chance to see that here now in a
game just yet, but I imagine we will coming up in

(10:57):
the Arizona game. Definitely saw Troy Franklin with a big catch.
We told you guys that he's been terrific in training
camp so far. We said, Pat Bryant's been really good
so far. He had a nice catch tonight, a couple
of nice catches tonight. Andy had a heads up play
recover to fumble. Actually, the rookies had a lot of
heads up plays. I mean, Saveon Jones, recovered a fumble,

(11:19):
Jail Skinner caused one, had a couple of interceptions tonight.
I mean not a rookie. Jake Y McMillan had an interception,
but he had an interception from Josh wall Pickett who's
a rookie, and Karine Reid.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
The rookies.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Really, I mean again, the depth depth looked great tonight.
Let's go back to the phones. Three oh three seven
one three eighty five eighty five. Andrew san Diego up
next to here on Broncos react.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
What's up?

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Andrew?

Speaker 5 (11:47):
Hey, Ryan, always a pleasure to talk to you. Thanks
for taking my.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Call, Yes, sir, appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (11:52):
You know.

Speaker 5 (11:53):
First things, First, first order of business is uh, I
recommend that why Wright oh Bright it all? Bright needs
to enjoy punkin spice latte before the game because he
just gets his nerves and the bind and just gets
too excited either way. Second thing, I'm really curious to
your thoughts. I was listening to Champagne's presser and he

(12:15):
said there are fourteen things that went wrong, but they
were not football related. I'm like, what could they be?
Is it preparation, is it what happened in the locker room,
or is it just It'll be interesting to see what
the truth reveals itself. And I like to hear your thoughts.
And second thing is is that I think the RJ. Harvey,

(12:36):
I was kind of disappointed but also excited. I guess
the disappointed part is that I think he's more one dimensional,
like kind of like Jel Little McLoughlin.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
And second, I.

Speaker 5 (12:46):
Love that he's explosive. I think he will bring a
big playability, but I think he's very limited, but maybe
more games will tell. And third thing and last thing
is that Broncos Country, we were ready to give Trevor
Simeon the whole fully guaranteed contract after three games, and
I think we need to slow down on the negative

(13:08):
bo Nicks and just let this guy just play and
play out and grow. Love your show, Ryan, like to
hear your thoughts.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Thank you, appreciate Andrew, thanks for the call as always, man,
and yeah, I look forward to hearing from you throughout
the season.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, i'd say in RJ.

Speaker 1 (13:21):
Harvey rookie running back, there's there's certainly room to grow there,
even though he had a lot of carries in college.
I'd say there's some room to grow, especially from past
pro That's something that there was a problem for Jealil
McLaughlin early on. I think he's gotten better at it,
but you just want to see improvement there. We didn't
even see JK Dobbins, right, I mean JK Dobbins didn't
get a carry tonight. So I do think that the

(13:43):
combination of JK Dobbins and r J. Harvey is going
to give you a really good balance to the running game.
As you mentioned, the explosive nature of RJ is going
to balance what JK is. And he's a good solid
running back. He's going to be great in pass pro.
He's going to give you some tough yards, but then
you're gonna need some of that explosive nature with RJ.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Harvey.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
The only thing you want is just to not tip
your hand when one or the other is in the
game right and both of them can catch out of
the backfield. There was a wayward passed to JK tonight
that kind of was behind him. I think that you
want to sort of clean that up. That hasn't been
the case of what we've seen out of camp so far.
So wondering to your point what Sean's referencing, I don't know.

(14:23):
You know, when you're an offensive minded coach, especially an
offensive minded head coach, you're really focused in on your
side of the ball, and your side of the ball
did not look crisp, at least for the first team tonight. Yeah,
you'd be excited about what your second team did and
your third team you really put this game away. You
help score thirty unanswered points, but your first team offense

(14:46):
is really what kind of stirs the drink here, and
that was not good enough. And so I'm interested to
see what adjustments they ultimately make. I mean, in the end,
the thing that I take away, and I think it's
a very important takeaway, is that the looks that they
got tonight, and we'll hear from Boenix in just a
second because he talked about it to Dave Logan, the

(15:07):
looks that they saw tonight were problematic, and that's a
good thing. Like today it feels like a bad thing
because you wanted more out of the offense than they
gave you. But you did this in a preseason game,
which is a learning experience, it's exhibition. I mean, really like,
this doesn't really matter all that much. It matters because

(15:30):
we talk about it, right, I'm not saying that the
performances in the game. We can steal Ben Albright's famous line,
everything matters except for the final score. Get the drinking
game going. On that now that it's almost eleven to
fifteen a night on a Saturday, please be responsible. But yeah,

(15:51):
it's one of those deals. Like I'm I guess another
glass half full take for you guys.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
I think it's a.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Good thing to be able to see these looks now
and realize some of the shortcomings of your team now
versus finding out in Week one when the Tennessee Titans
exploit and then listen, Tennessee Titans.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
They're pro football team.

Speaker 1 (16:10):
Man, if you have a weakness is they'll help find
them for you. So this was kind of a little
bit of a gift in my opinion from Kyle Shanahan
and from Robert Sala that the Broncos got a chance
to see some of their flaws play out on this stage,
and now they get a chance to go back to
the drawing board and fix them. In fact, let's go

(16:31):
ahead and hear from bo Nix as he joined voice
of the Broncos Dave Logan after the game. We get
this queued up here and it's presented by Dan Kapli's Law,
a serious firm for serious cases.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Let's sit down to the locker room talk with the
starting quarterback for the Broncos Bow Knicks.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Bow.

Speaker 6 (16:48):
It's Dave Logan, thanks for your time. We just talk
to Sean Payton. I'll start with the same question, what
did you What did you think about the first performance
of your team?

Speaker 7 (16:59):
Well, I thought, uh, you know, we started a little slow,
but the guys uh just kind of rallied and we
made some plays as the game went on, which was
really good. We got a lot of turnovers from defense,
which is always a good thing, and we were able
to capitalize on them, and sitting Sam Thun some touchdowns.
You know they're in the second you know, second half.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
It was.

Speaker 7 (17:18):
It was really good to see and I thought we
as a team, we played well.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Yeah, you've got I know you don't have a decision
in this, but you've got you got a crowded running
back room.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Man.

Speaker 6 (17:30):
I want I just want to ask your impression of R. J. Harvey,
who got to start the rookie out of Central Florida,
showing some really good quickness and speed on a couple
of those plays.

Speaker 8 (17:40):
Yeah, he did.

Speaker 7 (17:41):
I thought all the backs ran well. You know, you
can tell they're in a competition because they're all playing
really hard, really aggressive, running the ball really well. They're
being tough, doing what they're being asked to do, and
I think that, you know, it's just gonna come down
to the guys that you know it can be you know, explosive,
and right now they're all showing that. So I'm excited
to see how that shakes up.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
Yeah, I get you out of here on this.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (18:04):
I thought San Francisco dialed up frankly, a little more
pressure than I thought they might in this first preseason game.
When when you think back to that, Uh, you guys
played a quarter in a little bit. Uh, what what
did you see from the Niners defense?

Speaker 7 (18:20):
Yeah, they were giving us a few different looks. You know,
they had a good pressure practice that they showed for preseason.
Normally it's not quite like that, but I think they,
you know, they did a good job of scheming this
up and trying some different looks, and we, uh, you know,
reacted to it.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
Well.

Speaker 7 (18:37):
I'm sure we'll watch it and have some corrections, but overall,
I think, you know, we controlled it well. We moved
the ball and we just obviously the first couple drives
were just Dant Scorny touchdowns. So I just got to
get back to the practice. This week and you know,
just get better as a whole.

Speaker 6 (18:55):
Appreciate it both. Thanks for the time.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Thanks you bet.

Speaker 6 (19:00):
That's Bo Nicks in the Broncos locker room.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
You know I heard that at the very end. I
was like, who's yelling your teeth in the background. That's
so funny.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
That's Bo Nicks.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
All of our interviews, our postgame interviews Bo Nick, Sean Payton,
and Trent Sherfield are already on demand right now for
you to listen to.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
A kwcoloraud dot com.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
When we come back, we'll hear from Sean Payton, who
spoke with voice the Broncos Dave Logan. Today's game presented
by Children's Hospital Colorado, Official Children's Hospital of the Denver Broncos.
We'll be right back on the KWA Broncos Radio network.
But the Broncos still came up with four turnovers tonight,
and that's our fast stat presented by Exfinity introducing the

(19:37):
five year Price Guaranteed, one Internet price five years guaranteed.
That was a good knight for the defense overall. I mean,
that's that's pretty nice. And plus, you know, I think
you think about time possession tilted to the Broncos thirty
almost thirty seven minutes versus twenty three for the San
Francisco forty nine Ers. I saw one of the he

(20:01):
beat riders for the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Tweet this out a little bit ago.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
The way they view tonight's game is a lot of
ways complete opposite of what we're talking about with the
Broncos is they're viewing a lot of their depth not
looking NFL caliber. They're saying is, well, we have very
good starters, and they certainly have higher expectations than a
six win team like they were last year. But when
it gets to their depth, it doesn't look great. And

(20:27):
you saw, I mean their backup quarterbacks that was a mess.
I mean Mac Jones was okay, four seven for seventy
four yards an interception, but the one fifty yard pass
was kind of the one thing that stood out. Otherwise
it's twenty forty passing yards for the game and an
interception outside of one pass, and the rest of the
quarterbacks were abysmal and overall, I think they're right. I mean,

(20:51):
I think that the overall talent of that team really
is lacking when you get to their depth. So that's
something that the forty nine ers are going to have
an issue with Meanwhile, for the bron it's the other
side of this thing. We're talking about players they're gonna
get cut that actually are very talented and you're gonna
certainly miss. But it was nice to see the defense
get the four turnovers should have been five. Want to

(21:11):
be greedy, but that's something that would be nice for
the Broncos to be much better at this year last
year and takeaways they were seventh, which is very good
twenty five. But you're thinking about things that you want
to continue to improve, which is a stat you can
you could definitely tick up.

Speaker 2 (21:28):
There no doubt about it.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
If five six six niney George of Kawa Commasprier Health
text Liner gifts a call three three seven one, three
eighty five eighty five. Let's hear from Sean Payton who
spoke spoke with voice the Broncos Dave Logan after the game,
and that's presented by Ramos Law Doctor Lawyer Partner find
out what makes them better at ramoslaw dot com.

Speaker 6 (21:47):
Let's send down the locker room talk with head coach
Sean Payton Seawann's Dave Logan. Let me just ask you
your thoughts from the sideline on the game.

Speaker 8 (21:54):
Yeah, look, I just finished talking to the team about it.
You know, I didn't like how we started. Uh, both
first units started slow. Then as the game began to continue,
there were a number of things that that we're gonna
be able to look at. The turnovers were positive. I
didn't like the penalty statistic numbers. Wise, there's a lot
to uh, there's a lot to really coach up off

(22:19):
of relatives to tonight's game, and and and and still
the day of full practice as we're coming home from
this weekend, really and and we just finished talking about
the debrief, you know, when when you're returning and and
being ready to take valuable information, valuable stuff that we
need to need to get cleaned up. When we look

(22:42):
at this game, we'll see a number of positives relative
to the evaluation process. But I think, you know, the
early impressions were slow start, and then uh, and then
we got going and and I thought the energy effort
all that stuff was good. Then we kind of go
from there.

Speaker 6 (23:00):
Yeah, last thing talking about guys, I don't get a
chance to talk about too much, but I thought Jared
Stidham came in and actually played pretty dog on well
back in the bow Nicks.

Speaker 8 (23:10):
Yeah, he sure did well. There's a poise with him
and experience with him, you feel a veteran player. And
man made a heck of a throw a touchdown pass
that that that he connects with with Sherfield was a
real good play. But Steady's been been real consistent and

(23:34):
I think there's a poise with him.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
Man. I thought he did a good job as well.

Speaker 6 (23:41):
Yeah, Sean, thanks for the time, all right, thank you, David.
You bet that Sean Payton in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Yeah, for Sean Payton.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
You come away from this game and you won thirty
to nine. And there was certainly very some some very
nice things about the depth that performed to a level
that you would hope based on what you've seen throughout
the course of the offseason. But as we were talking
about earlier, when Andrew called in and again three h
three seven one three eighty five eighty five, your first

(24:10):
team offense looked out a sayink that I mean, that's
just that's the bottom line, right. The offensive line certainly
wasn't playing up to the standard that you know they can.
Bonix was not playing up to the standard that he can.
The forty nine ers historically have had a really good defense,
but they weren't playing a lot of starters out there,
so as we measured this thing, if Bonix and the

(24:32):
offense had dominated the second team of the forty nine ers,
we probably would have been having conversations like, well, it's
the backups for the forty nine ers.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
It's that's what you're supposed to do.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
But the fact that they struggled, then it kind of
swings the other way where you start saying, well, is
that any kind of indicator? Once again, first preseason game
for me, it's not the trend of the second preseason
and maybe even the third if you need it.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
If there's still some struggles there.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
That's a conversation to be had because last year we
came off the second preseason game fired up about bo
Nix and thinking this team is about to hit the
ground running, and then of course they didn't. They had
their struggles against Seattle, of course they did. Seattle's a
good team, especially a good defense. They had the struggles
against Pittsburgh again, a good team, playoff team. The Broncos

(25:24):
need to start faster this year. You're not going to
be allotted the warm up games. Even though you do
have the Tennessee Titans in the Indianapolis Colts to start
this thing off, those teams can beat you. And if
you get off to a slow start again, as this
schedule is laid out, that could be significant. That could
be a problem for the goals that you have, which

(25:47):
has been stated by your head coach, super Bowl or whatever.
You want to win the division. He said that last
year in his postseason press conference. He laid that out
as we expect to be vying for the division this
next year. Now he's added the rest of it here
with the Yahoo article about Bonix in the top five
and this is one of seven teams that I believe

(26:07):
can win a Super Bowl. He's added those things after
the fact. But for me, that was the thing that
I approached this upcoming season with that mindset of the
Broncos view that they're a contender in the AFC West,
which is something that they have not been since Kansas
City drafted Patrick Mahomes. So now that you think you

(26:29):
can do that, you have to go out and do it,
and part of that is winning games that you need
to win, which includes the Tennessee Titans and the Indianapolis Colts,
two teams that look like they're.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
In a bit of a rebuild, in a reshuffle.

Speaker 1 (26:40):
If you can't do that, then by the time you
get to December, you might need some help to scrape
into the playoffs. And last thing you want to do
is be in that position. I think any team you
saw what happened with the Bengals last year. It was miserable.
They're playing some of their best football on offense, but
they can't catch the then they need to to put

(27:01):
themselves in position to make the postseason. They would have
been one of the toughest teams, one of the toughest outs.
It's undeniable at this point for most people. And the
Broncos they controlled their own destiny last year because they
they got some breaks. They played against some banged up teams,
some banged up quarterbacks. They did catch some breaks. They

(27:22):
lost to the Chargers, they lost. The Bengals put themselves
in a position where they had to win. They didn't
have to win that Chiefs game, but let's just say
they had to win that game, because if you lost
that game, then you did need some help. The Chiefs
didn't need the games, so they played their backups, but
I would have been fascinated to see if the Broncos
could have won that game straight up. They almost won
straight up in Arrowhead. But the way this thing shakes

(27:45):
out is you're gonna have to find your confidence.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
You had to find your footing here pretty soon.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
And I can't say with certainty over the course of
what we've seen out of training camp in the offseason
that the offense has found their footing, and then tonight
it's just more evidence that the offense has not found
their footing yet. Is that the coach, is that the quarterback,
is that the mixture of things, is that the offensive line.
I mean, there could be several reasons for that, but

(28:11):
this is a week where you got to figure out a.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Couple of those things.

Speaker 1 (28:14):
Because if you can't find your footing against the Arizona
Cardinals in the joint of practice as well as in
the game, then things start to line up in a
way where that third preseason game can make people start
to wonder about who you are. And last thing you
want to do is have that kind of turmoil heading
into the first game of the season against Tennessee. Three

(28:37):
out three seven one three eighty five eighty five five
six six nine zero Kwa Commas Spirit Health text line.
If you want to interact with us, we got some
text rolling in. I'll read some of those when we
come back. I'm Ryan Edward. Today's game is brought to
you by Coloraddin's for Responsible Energy Development, developing Colorado's energy.
Learn more at cred dot org. That is creed dot org.
We'll be right back on the Kawai Broncos Radio network.
You hit a check down and it's all worked from you,

(28:58):
like adreg Esta may to not only secure that reception,
but he's gonna have to turn it up field. And
as far as the defense there, they got their heels
at the sticks.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
You're gonna run into the teeth of that thing and
it's all gonna be you. So I don't know, man,
is there enough?

Speaker 1 (29:15):
That's gonna be a interesting thing to talk about over
the course of the week is how the running backs
ended up shaking exce I thought Blake Watson, object Estimate,
Tyler badet really all made a great argument to be
that third running back right now. It sort of sucks
for Jaleil McLoughlin because he had a really nice run

(29:36):
that would have put them up right at the goal. Line,
but it was called back I think on a Frank
Crumb false start or something to that effect. Maybe it
was maybe as a hole actually now I think about it,
but there was a hold ended up no as Pat
Bryant that was where it was Pat Bryant hold that
ended up calling back a Jealil McLoughlin run that would
put him down at the goal line. And that's just

(29:58):
such a heartbreaking play because is you're vying for and
jocking for these opportunities and you just you don't get them,
and then what the box score ends up looking like
looks like you didn't have much of a night, when
in reality is one of the best runs of the night.
Probably didn't have anything to do with that hold. And

(30:20):
that's part of what it is. That's part of the NFL,
I mean. And in the end we get to talk
about addric estimate, we're talking about Tyler Badet and we're
talking about Blake Watson looking like the best running backs
on the field tonight, and that's that's a bummer for
Jallala McLoughlin, who I think has had a pretty good
camp and I would have said not only coming into tonight,
but over the course of what we've seen at OTAs,

(30:40):
he's pretty much a lock for that third guy at
running back. But I do appreciate the competition that the
Broncos have opened up here where they're giving these guys
multiple chances. I mean, Adrick Estimate tonight, let's see here.
I'm gonna pull up the the box score here to
get the final numbers here. So Addrick Estimate ended up
having eight carries and he had the one reception on

(31:03):
one target. Tyler Bday had five carries tonight and two
catches for nine yards, and Blake Watson had four carries
tonight and then had three catches for twenty one yards.
So they all got a lot of as Dave would say, tick,
and it was great to see.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
I love that they're opening that up.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
And again Jaalim McLoughlin, he finishes the night three for
five one point seven and as long as for six yards,
that's that's frustrating because you had a twenty plus yard
carry in there that got wiped out on the k
we commispated health text line five six six nine zero
Ryan for those of us who watched the game, do

(31:41):
we miss the supple hands reference on the broadcast? Also
the forty nine ers media team was unbearable to listen to.
Makes us appreciate you and Dave. It's very kind, very
kind you say that, you know, I note I didn't
hear any supple hands reference. Grant, did you hear a
supple hands reference?

Speaker 8 (31:57):
With his long reach and supple hands logan was like
King Kong among cornerbacks.

Speaker 2 (32:03):
I have to give a hard time about that. On Monday.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
We got to get a supple hands reference somewhere in
the broadcast. It's not like you're not balancing enough, Dave
entertain us. I'm just kidding, Dave. Dave does a wonderful job.
They all do that. There's a lot of moving parts. Oftentimes,
what you guys hear on the air is in the
care of a lot of very dedicated and talented people

(32:28):
that are helping behind the scenes. Grant Smith is obviously
one of them. Alan Jackson does a tremendous job justin Trehillo,
Dave Tepper. There's a lot of people that have hands
on this broadcast that don't even crack the mic throughout
the course of it. I mean we were on from
three o'clock till midnight tonight. Zach Seekers also running the
board and co hosting Broncos Game Day. There's a lot

(32:50):
of people that work very hard to make this product
sound as good as it does, and it doesn't happen
without them, So they're doing their work behind the scenes.
Rick Susie, myself, we're doing our stuff on the air,
but the fact is we can't do it without him.

Speaker 2 (33:05):
So my point of it is is things like that, Dave's.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
Got a lot he's balancing on top of everybody's balancing things.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
But we'll try to get a supple hands reference in.
We'll do We'll do our best.

Speaker 1 (33:16):
I still love the idea of doing some kind of
sponsored segments or sponsored read with supple hands. I still
think that would be pretty cool working on that, though,
you know, it's always an effort. It's always an effort.
Three out three seven one, three, eighty five, eighty five, five,
six six nine zeros Ka with Comma Spury Health text line.

(33:37):
We got a couple more segments to go before we're
out of here at midnight again. Our next week's broadcast
starts at four o'clock because it's a seven thirty kickoff,
so it'll be another late night for us on Saturday.
But We appreciate you guys rolling with us here on
the KWAE Broncos Radio Network. Supple hands playfake kind of
like he did when the Damarius Thomas touchdown we were
talking about last week.

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Listen to at the beginning of this real quick.

Speaker 6 (34:01):
Play fake Eller just just.

Speaker 2 (34:04):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
I think that's because the Broncos were leading by as
much as they were, and let's hear what was left
in the game at that point. There was two point
fifteen remaining in the game and the Broncos were up
twenty three to nine, Like the game was over, but
you're still working on some things, right because first in
goal at the San Francisco seven. So maybe to Dave's

(34:28):
credit or point, and I'll ask him about it on Monday,
maybe there's just sort of this like, hey, run the ball,
run it again, run it again. You got the seven
yard line, but instead they go play fake with Sam Ellinger.

Speaker 6 (34:40):
Tim playfakes in the pocket.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
It's just a little do you do you hear a grant?
You hear the the play fake? It's like it's not
like a Ronen Burgundy question, but it's kind of a
it's in the vein of that.

Speaker 3 (34:54):
Play fake.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
Anyways, three oh three seven three eighty five eighty five
five six se zero's a ka commaspret health text. My
last couple of minutes here as we're rolling with you
until midnight tonight live from the smash Burger Sports Desk
with the new four ninety nine menu featuring the single
All American Burger, single de Luxe Burger, and the new
Americana Big Dog. We appreciate you guys hanging with us.

(35:17):
A couple of texts here I want to get to.
This was from earlier Nate from Texas Kroll touchdown celebration.
What happened there has to be top ten for the preseason,
have a great season. Appreciate you, Thank you, Nate, appreciate
that as well. And yeah, I mean that was just
the shrug kind of like what happened here, standing out
by myself that was already getting memed almost immediately. It's

(35:39):
the easiest touchdown of his entire life, and of course
it's relatively meaningless in a preseason game, though, I guess
you could say. There's been some discussion from some media members,
including Benjamin Albright, about whether Nate Croll makes this roster.
I think he's there.

Speaker 2 (35:56):
They like him. A lot. I'd say he's one of
your top four.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
But if you get into a conversation about where the
fullbacks and the halfbacks and how they might impact the
tight end room or the running back room, that could
make things a little dicey. But I still think I
still think rolls on. There's another one from Nate in
Texas says the D line doesn't get much love, so

(36:21):
go roach. How's this linebacking core gonna be? Is inside
linebackers still problematic? Thanks mister Edwards. Psho lined up at
fullback for Broncos in the first quarter. I had to
go back and look. I don't think it was Nate Atkins.
I think he didn't play tonight. At Lisa saw a
note earlier from Parker Gabriel that he wasn't gonna address,

(36:41):
but I'll go check it out.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
I'll have that for you on Monday.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
As far as the inside linebacker group, I think they're
gonna be all right. Drake Greenlaw, Alex Singleton should be
back this week, and I do like Lavelle Bailey quite
a bit. Justin Schernod's pretty solid. I think that they're
overall going to be just fine there. Drew Sanders will
eventually be back, but in the very moment, in this
very immediate moment, yeah, it looks a little thin, but

(37:05):
I think you're gonna be fine. D Line, Yeah, d
Line needs a lot of love and Malcolm Roach is
significant for the success that they've had. It's undeniable. But yeah,
I mean, the front seven looks good. Front seven looks
really really good for the Broncos. All right, f that'll
break here, we'll come back and wrap things up. We'll
get you ready for next week's game, and that's coming
up on the Kway Broncos radio network. They will be

(37:26):
off tomorrow and Monday, or at least for the media's sake,
and I believe it is an actual off day, and
then Tuesday Wednesday training camp practices which are open to
the public. And then Thursday is the joint practice, which
I believe is also open to the public. So that
and that'll put a wrap on training camp as we

(37:47):
know it, and they'll kind of get into a.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
Little bit more of a regular.

Speaker 1 (37:51):
Week before the final preseason game and then we're off
and rolling into the regular season. But yeah, next week,
that's how things shake out. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday training camp
practice of course we'll have full coverage right here on
KOA as we typically do KA Sports on Monday. I'll
have Nick Ferguson as my co host. Of course, Dave's
gonna be back from San Francisco. We'll get his thoughts
on the game. Want to thank Dave Logan, Rick Lewis,

(38:15):
Suzie Wargen, Alan Jackson, Jesse Trahio, Nick Ferguson, Jojo Turnbo,
Benjamin all Bright, Zack Segers, Dave Tepper, Anthony Rodriguez, Shannon Scott.

Speaker 2 (38:25):
Of course, my guy Grant.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Smith, who hangs out with me during the course of
the week do on K Sports does a wonderful job.
Make sure you check out his podcast, Taking.

Speaker 2 (38:32):
For Granted on the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (38:34):
That does it for us. I'm Ryan Edwards. Thanks for listening.
We'll be back on Monday at three o'clock right here
on KOA.
