Speaker 1 (00:00):
Pair next hour, in a pair on the five o'clock
hour between that, Well, have Benjamin Albright along here just
a little bit. But right now we head out to
the KIAE Common Spirit Health high Line to bring on
Darren Urban to covering the Cardinals for.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Quite some time. Twenty six years. It says you're on Twitter, Darren,
Is that is that right? Twenty six years?

Speaker 3 (00:16):
That is correct?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Man, that is awesome. Well, I always appreciate it getting
a chance to catch up with you. You're on with Nick
Ferguson and Ryan Edwards at card Chatter on Twitter. What
did you think of the joint practice yesterday through the
lens of somebody covering the Cardinals?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
You know, I saw something that you know, it's practice.
You know, you want to try and draw some things
out of it, and you do notice some things, but
mostly what you understand is it's one practice in a
series of practices before the season starts. And while there's
probably things you're not gonna want to necessarily see, if

(00:54):
that's your team, it doesn't necessarily portend anything. You know,
there were some standouts for the Cardinals. I thought, tight
end try McBride. He's from Fort Morgan, you know, I thought.
I mean, he's one of the elite tight ends in
the NFL in the first place. But he had a
really great practice and that works out well for the Cardinals.
There were some other things that I think ultimately they

(01:15):
would have liked to see end a little bit better.
Uh maybe the last two minute drill that they were
going to ones against the top end of defense, but
they saw they showed some pass rush at times from
the defensive side. You saw a little bit of Marvin
Harrison late and so there I think there were some
good things to take out of it. It wasn't a

(01:36):
perfect practice for the Cardinals no matter what, but you know, again,
it was a practice and it was one practice out
of many.

Speaker 4 (01:45):
Darren, you know, being a defensive guy obviously on my
eyes automatically attracted to the defensive side of the ball.
But you guys have a guy in Daris Robinson and
just kind of you know, watching this guy go out
and got watching him go out and move. How impressive
have you been with him? And what do you think
this season could actually be like for him?

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, I mean they took Darius late in the first
round last year and there was a reason for it.
I mean, if you thought about, you know, what kind
of prototypical frame you wanted on what you hope to
be a defensive lineman three technique type player. I mean,
he's a guy who you hoped can mess with the

(02:27):
interior of an offensive line. His rookie year, there was
high hopes. He had a excellent training camp, but unfortunately
in the last couple of practices right before the regular season,
he hurt his cast and it essentially drailed the season.
He ended up playing six games at the end of
the year, but he was never right. So he's back
to health now and they're counting on him. I mean,
one of the things that Jimmanios Sport did was really

(02:50):
rebuild this defensive line the last couple of years. He's
added a lot of pieces both in free agency and
in the draft. But Robinson going in to a second year,
I think it's going to be a crucial piece to that.
In part because he's a first round pick and he's
going into a second year, in part because he did
miss out all that time last year, and in part

(03:11):
because their first round pick for this year, Walter Nolan,
also defensive lineman, also has a CAF issue and he
hasn't even a practice in training camp yet, so I
don't know when he's gonna be ready. So they're going
to need him to step up. But he's got all
the physical tools and he's got absolutely the right attitude
to be great. It's just a question of him working

(03:31):
to try and get there.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
We went on from Coach Payton yesterday that the starters, frontline, starters,
defensive line, quarterbacks, so on and so forth for both teams,
because he announced it for the Cardinals as well, are
not going to play in this game.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
It's been met with.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Some mixed reaction here in Denver because the Broncos, at
least from the fans perspective, probably could use some of
those reps, especially with a young quarterback. How is that
being met with Cardinals fans that you're not going to
see Kyler Murray and some of the frontline guys out
there tomorrow.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Well, you got to remember around here, having the starters
play has been very rare. Kyler Murray played in the
preseason opener last week against the Chiefs. That's the first
preseason game he's played since twenty twenty one. Jonathan Gannon
had never well, he was hurt. Jonathan Gannon's first year,
so he wasn't going to play that year. But last

(04:24):
year none of the starters played in preseason, or barely
any of them, and he changed it up a little
bit this year. The starting offense played about eighteen snaps
last week. Defense was probably in the same ballpark. It
doesn't surprise me that they're not playing this week for
the Cardinals, and I won't be completely shocked if they

(04:45):
don't play next week either. When fans think about the
offense and Kyler Murray, I think a lot of them
would like to see him get more reps, just because
this offense has not been as consistently good as you
would hope, especially for a quarterback who's been in the
league as long as Kyler. But that being said, you know,
all these coaches manage things a little bit differently. It

(05:07):
seems like overall the league has made a pushback to
have meaningful players play a little bit more in the
preseason than they have the last couple of years. I'm
not sure Jonathan Gannon is all the way there, so
it doesn't surprise me. But it's funny you mentioned Jonathan
Gannon talks before practice, so he had already said I'm
not making any decisions of who's playing until after I

(05:27):
see this practice, and then we want going to get
a chance to talk to him until the game, till
after the game, so for Peyton to come out and
say the Cardinals were going to play. But he was
definitely interesting on our end.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Well, when you look at Colorado State and my co
hosts Ryan Eris is gonna love this one because he's
a CSU ram alump. But Trey McBride statistically, he led
the rams, and he ran led the car news and
all the statistical categories. I mean, can he develop into

(05:59):
one of those elite tight ends and can we say
that he is unguardable? Are we at that point of
being able to say that.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Well, I'll be honest, and again, I understand that nationally
not a lot of people are going to necessarily be
watching the Cardinals, and last year they didn't even have
a five hundred record. But I already feel like Trey
McBride is and he weak tight end. I think he
showed that last year. I think he was already verging
there at the end of twenty twenty three after zach

(06:31):
Ertz got hurt. I mean, he had a fantastic second
half of the twenty twenty three season and then last year.
Obviously he didn't have the number of touchdowns he would
have liked, but the rest of the year he was fantastic,
and I don't see why that would be changing anytime soon.
The Cardinals paid him this offseason. He was, at least
for a brief time, the highest paid tight end in

(06:51):
the league until George Kittle got his money a couple
weeks later. But now McBride is all of that. They loved,
They love the way he plays, They love his effort
and attitude. When I watch him, I mean, you're not
a tight end wide receiver. It doesn't matter to me.
You're not going to find a more smooth catcher of

(07:14):
the ball. Like his hands are ridiculous, and he's so athletic.
He hurtles guys to get bunches of yards after the catch.
I mean, there's a few things he can't do, and
he can block. I don't know if he's quite on
the George Kittle level of blocking, but he's a pretty
good blocking tight end considering how great he is at

(07:34):
catching the ball. So personally, I already think he's in
that conversation, I do.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Too, but once again, people say, that's just going to
see us you Ram Darren, It's always great to catch
up with you, man, and I really appreciate it. Enjoy
your couple of days here in Denver, and enjoy the
game tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
Thanks for having me. Guys.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
All right, Darren Irvin at cards Chatter on Twitter.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
Like I said, I whatever, the Broncos play the Arizona Cardinals,
which oftentimes is the preseason, it's in a while in
the regular season.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Uh, he's sort of one of my go to guys.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Phenomenal reporter and uh yeah, he's a really fun follow
on Twitter too because he's kind of sarcastic, which I like.

Speaker 4 (08:10):
I'm not surprised so somehow if you say that, like
you wanted me to be shocked in amaze, I am not.
But as a as a CSU ram Alum, I mean
you have to love He's the truth. I when trade
was coming out of a CSU, I was hoping, have
my fingers crossed the Broncos would take him.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
Yeah, he's that type of tight end. You didn't have
a first round or that year.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
I mean I think wait in the second round and
then you took Nick Benito. I remember correctly. That was
that draft. It'd have been tough. It'd been tough to
to ex think you had a trade up to go
get him, and they did. They were a lack of
draft capital, but he was that dude. And then of
course you ended up going with Greg dul said, who
places the Giants? Now, okay, will get the interview up
