Oh, good, see you guys. Too. Good to see you guys.
I'm not going to waste a minute on that.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
I could come to you first, I think, Oh no, no.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
That's fine. I'm I'm you know, this time of year,
I'm kind of a part of timer, so I'm just
happy to be here. I say that not not in
an argument. That's a thank you so much, thank you.
I appreciate it. I listen to you guys all the time.
First first time caller, longtime listener.
Speaker 5 (00:54):
It's good. Hey do we want to No, we probably don't.
We don't.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
We don't want to talk about the previous conversation. Right, hey,
listen to Jeff Johnson and BK. You guys need to
love each other a little bit. Just just hug each other.
Hug it out, o, Hi it out, fellas. We got some,
we got some. We got some high school girly stuff
going on here between the two. Stop it you literally
do I know, I know, I just couldn't help it.
(01:19):
Ryan's like, oh God, did you really bring that up?
It's okay, this is great. No, hey, listen, you gotta
shoot your shot. That's what I was told. Are you
continuing to read the Shane I'm just so.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
The listeners home apropos of nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
The last two texts in this chain are amongst grown
men that are all over the age of forty.
Speaker 5 (01:40):
It's cool.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I have a girlfriend. I promise we met at summer camp.
She lives in Canada, trust me. Oh yeah, what's his name?
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Oh hey, by the way, Cofo bell I want to
give them a quick shot out.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
They dropped off.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
These new buffs boxes that are seven dollars, Cheesy to Crunch,
beefy five Lair Burrito, do Rito's, Locos, Taco Cennemon twist,
a large fountain drink for all of us, plus a
collectible cup featuring uh color of football players like Jordan's
Seaton and Julian Lewis. So pretty cool stuff there. We've
been enjoying it here in the staff and we're grateful
(02:15):
to talk a bell for dropping those off.
Speaker 5 (02:17):
Yeah, a couple of things.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Those uh those buffs boxes are only available in the
state of Colorado and not available in Fort Collins. I
go a little little information for obvious reasons. Yeah, there
you go Collins. The buff box did not play very well.
I want for Collins.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
What's that you see you people? You just don't want
You don't want to for Collins.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
You don't want to get the lie around. I think
Fort Collins was like.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
What's that you see you people?
Speaker 2 (02:40):
Yeah, just just down on Fort Collins.
Speaker 5 (02:43):
I thought you said, there we go Rams. Rams play
in Washington. Do you know what the spread of that
game is? Mister? I went to see issue. I do not.
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Oh, okay, and how much how much of a devout
fan are you really?
Speaker 4 (02:59):
I believe I believe the Huskies are a twenty point favorite.
And I'll go on the record right now and say
I like c issue to cover. Yes, I do. Okay, Well,
you know Washington is usually pretty good, and they're even
better when they play in Seattle. Who it's twenty one
and a half. Now, oh boy, I'm probably in the
wrong side. Oh if the thing's going up, that's not
(03:22):
good for me.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
That's not great.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Under fifty three and a half, it's Colorado teams are
dogs this week.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
You haven't seen you at four and a half to five?
Now not to five? Okay, Well, literally moments ago I
was looking at it four and a half and.
Speaker 4 (03:33):
Was over the very We talked about this when the
schedule came.
Speaker 5 (03:37):
Out, that that.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Is not a good that's not a good starter for
the bus. I mean, can they win. I think they can,
But I don't like that matchup at all.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
I can't say I do either.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I think it's so tough to see you because we
don't really know a lot of what they're going to be.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yeah, you know what I mean. Said they're going to
be better, which I was encouraged. Honestly. Here in his
press conference he said, you know, you lose two great players,
and he said, but from an offensive line point, from
a wide receiver standpoint, he said, we're going to be
a better football team. And if that's true, then I
(04:19):
think the bus will hang right in there with Georgia Tech.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
I think it's just asked you about naming Cayden Salter
the starting quarterback. But I mean I thought it was
a right call. It's not anything against Julian Lewis. We
both Why do you think it was the right call.
I just's veteran. I guess if you will, he's got
more experience. I think that there's a little steady your hand.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
Potentially. Julian looks is like eighteen, isn't he If I know,
I mean I look at he's true freshman. Yeah, so
it's just like out of high school.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
So, I mean the interesting thing there, and you're right
in terms of the veteran quarterback, and he said he
said a lot of moments and he's put some good
things on tape at quarterback in college football. Yes, that said,
I think it'll be interesting to see how they balance
that competition, because if they think Julian Lewis is going
(05:09):
to be as good as they thought he was going
to be when they when they recruited him, then they've
got to find a way to get him some playing
time because if they don't, then I can see Julian
Lewis saying at the end of the year, Hey listen,
I'm I'm out of here. So that, to me, that's
a that's an interesting balance for the coaches.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Did you think part of Coach Prime saying that in
this press conference yesterday was sort of a hey, just
hang in there, you're probably going to get some reps
in this game because he.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Said he said both of them are going to play.
Speaker 5 (05:37):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, is that what you took that as well?
Speaker 5 (05:40):
I mean, I think you got to.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
I think in today's college football given the fact that
guys can.
Speaker 5 (05:45):
Enter the portal, you know, if you.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
I mean, if you run him too hard, you can
enter the portal about over anything. So if you've got
a guy that's really talented, and he's been told all
of his life he's talented, and his sports staff and
I'm not I'm not speaking specifically about Julian Lewis, I'm speaking,
uh in general about a lot of college football players.
Speaker 5 (06:08):
His sports staff.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Has told him them, he's They're the greatest thing in
the world. And only reason you know you're not doing
this is because the guy didn't know.
Speaker 5 (06:17):
What he was doing. And so let's transfer to here.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
And then I mean, so yeah, I think I think
it's part of the landscape for college coaches and they
have to be able to figure out, Okay, how do
we balance this thing. We got to play the best players.
We want to win games, but we also we've got
to find a way. If you still think he's that guy,
that's the qualifier. Now, if you've seen stuff in the
(06:40):
spring and you're like, ah, I don't know, I mean
and I don't. I don't know that. I don't know
that they have it all. But if you haven't, he's
going to play quite a bit.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Oh he's seventeen, he'll turn eighteen, seventeen years good lord.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
So that's I guess upon coach Prime then to talk
to him and say, understand your SHOT's coming. You'll have
an opportunity because again, Cade's only gonna play this year.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
He's a senior, He's this is this is it for him,
So you sell the ship.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
I think Cayden's skill set will work just fine in
this offense.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I think they're gonna be able to do some things.
Speaker 1 (07:17):
It's understandable why they're an underdog against Georgia Tech of
all teams to open the season.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
But yeah, I actually thought that was the right call. Yeah,
Georgia Tech's got a heck of a quarterback back there too.
Haines King is a he's a he's an animal. He
can run, he can throw. Cayden Salter is more mobile
than Shidor was. I'm gonna it's gonna be interesting to
see if they, you know, kind of add some components
to that to this offense. I mean he had he
had twelve rushing touchdowns and uh he's two seasons ago
(07:41):
and quite a bit of yardage on the ground.
Speaker 5 (07:44):
He's a good player. Yeah, I've seen enough film with
him to know he can play.
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Had a weird drop off last year from from the
from the previous year.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
But he can ball, he can he can play. And
they got a man. They had to tell you what.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
You go back and watch Liberty last two years. They
got a running back there, Quintin Cooley. That dude is unbelievable.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Well, the drop off by for what it's worth, I mean, yes,
he had a sub sixty percent completion rate, but he
only took nineteen sacks.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
So for all the people out there that have.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
Been constantly talking about shuret standers holing the ball too long,
that's not exactly what you're gonna do with Kaden Salter,
and he has some mobility, some really mobility, and.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
By all accounts, they want to run the ball be
better at running the ball. So we'll see they're going
to have to run the ball to be Georgia Tech.
I think, I think getting a hold of Georgia Tech's
offense is going to be a chore. I mean, they
are you know, I watched when they played Georgia last
(08:35):
year went into I think double overtime. I mean, really
diversified offense, especially if you have a quarterback that can
run some and they do and they're not afraid to
run him. So I think I think it's a I mean,
the offense for the Buffs has to stay in the
field and ultimately generate some points because you can't have
(08:56):
your defense if you go three and out, three and
out three. You can't have your defense out in the
field against that offense and expect to win the game.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
No doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (09:04):
So yeah, looking forward to that. By the way, this
is just a weird thing that just popped up.
Speaker 1 (09:08):
So Seattle tweeted out their practice squad does not include
Courney Jackson, We've been told earlier today that Courney Jackson
was going to go to Seattle's practice squad.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
They just tweeted out the list. He's not on it.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I wonder if they convinced him to come back because
they wanted him, and he took He took Seattle's offer
because it was the first offer. It felt like that
the Broncos were dragging their feet a little bit on that.
So I wonder we'll see. I mean, there's open here
in Dever.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Yeah, the Broncos, by at least what we have for
media reports, have fifteen of sixteen guys signed, and of
the glut of talent, you had a wide receiver. All
these rookies, all these young guys didn't keep video.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I mean right now, like on this list, not a
one and davier as if you already knew that this
is no.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
I just want you to I just I'm just referring
you to my previously uttered It's just impossible to tell
in training camp a guy can have a good day.
And we saw, because you and I stood by each other,
a lot of those practices. We saw, you know, a
couple of those wide receivers make good catches like okay,
(10:15):
that was That was a big time. That was an
NFL catch right there. But what we don't see is
all the other things that go into it.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
The only two wide receivers, at least as we sit
here today with fifteen at Perry and Michael Bandy, only
two in the practice squad.
Speaker 4 (10:29):
Michael Bandy, I think, because he's dependable and accountable and
in a pinch, could return punts, will play special teams,
is a slot, but has the mental capacity to know
the other spots as well. So somebody gets nicked, they
(10:52):
they get a pro receiver just by come bringing him
off the practice squad.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
And then they love at Perry of course drafted down
there and Orleans, so that that makes some sense. But yeah,
I mean we talked about Joaquin Davis, Jirwan Newton, Courtney Jackson.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I'm sure this is somebody else.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
O oh, Rowann, Kyrie's Rowan, I mean all of them, Yep,
they're all gone. And then we found an oddric estimate
signed on the practice squad of the Eagles. Marrig Mathis
Mariy Mathews was claimed by the Panthers, so the Broncos
did not put any waiver claims.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
I mean, it's what it's worth is more or less.
Speaker 4 (11:25):
That's the most surprising element so far in what we've.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Seen, maybe in training camp, is after.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
It's all said and done and the Broncos make their
decisions and they cut, and the other thirty one teams
do the same thing. It's surprising that the Broncos did
not pick anybody else up. And it tells you how
much they like their roster well.
Speaker 3 (11:47):
And what a difference four or five years makes, because
when George Payton got here, we were calling the waiver
wire to bring guys in. Now we're just hoping to
keep the guys and not even putting waiver And then
that speaks to raising the floor of the overall.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
Ross Niagary, Oh yeah, I guess when he says, we
love this roster and this is the deepest has ever been.
And they don't make any waiver claims, they don't bring anybody,
They bring all their own guys back. They were able
to get Lavel Bailey back. I think that a lot
of Broncos fans were really paying attention. In fact, they
actually added three inside linebackers between Garret Walla, Leavel Bailey
(12:19):
and Jordan Turner back to the roster, so in a
lot of ways for I think for Broncos fans out
there that were wondering if the Broncos really were aware,
which is always a funny thing for me. We're aware
of how the team should view their inside linebacker position
and the relative health of it. They're very aware. They
(12:39):
kept four, they added three to the practice squad. They
feel like they're pretty set there. I want to ask
you about Killer Blowner for a second, Dave. We didn't
talk about him a ton yesterday. It's been an interesting
thing watching some Broncos fans out there. Can a guy
that's his seventh round project be a bust?
Speaker 5 (12:57):
No?
Speaker 2 (12:57):
I don't think so either. But that's some of the
discourse that's happening right now.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
They're calling Caleb Luner a bus He.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Said if he couldn't make the fifty three man roster
as a draft pick, then then it was a miss.
And a lot of these people are pointing to other
players that they liked in and.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
Around the seventh round, which well like Bill Crosky. Merritt,
for example, on Washington was.
Speaker 4 (13:20):
No, I mean, occasionally you're going to hit on seven,
you're going to hit on a six, But over the
last since two thousand, seventh round draft choices make the
opening fifty three day roster six percent of the time.
WHOA what a stat So, I mean, I think Caleb
(13:41):
Lunn is in a perfect spot right He can learn
the game. He's a he's a basketball player that right
now is putting on a helmet.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
Seventy two snaps since the seventh grade.
Speaker 5 (13:50):
Yeah, seventy snap. That's what I mean.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
I mean, let him, let him learn the system, let
him learn the speed and the physicality of the game,
and in particular in that position. And then once he
I think, once he understands stuff, how he can take
advantage of what God is blessed him with, you know,
in terms of being a red zone threat, you know,
sixty seven to six seven, and if you put him
(14:14):
out wide, it demands the defense take a look out
there and say, okay, how are we going to play him?
Because there are corners in the league that are five ten,
five eleven that are really good players. Well, I like
my chances with a six to seven guy. So you know,
I wouldn't I wouldn't say this is a bust in
any shape or form.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
It feels like even if he made the roster because,
as we've talked about, for a lot of these decisions,
it's gymnastics, it's politics. It say, hey, we got to
keep this guy because this guy won't.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Come back to us.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Frank Crumb is an example of that is Frank Crumb
may not play the entire season, but they were afraid
if they let him go and they exposed him to waivers,
he wouldn't.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Come back again.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
I think it was that Frank Crumb is a next
year move could be.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Yeah, the lower part of this though, Like I don't
get that he's not that was always the plan. It
was always he was always a long term developmental guy
with you know, I mean, how would you call a
guy a bust?
Speaker 2 (15:09):
Well, that's kind of my point.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
Like what let's just say, for argument, he did make
the fifty three, right, How would that change the trajectory
of what you think he is?
Speaker 3 (15:18):
What I'm saying, like, he's still here, right, So how
how does that It wasn't that he couldn't make the
fifty three, It's that you had to shuffle the things around,
and you knew you could get him on the practice
squad and keep the guys you want.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
There was kind of a palm reflection and I texted
you about this a pond reflection. Maybe a shrewd kind
of clever move from Sean Payton and the Broncos Karine Reid.
Now this isn't to say that Karana Reid didn't absolutely
earn that roster spot, and I'm very excited for him.
But Sean was asked about the decision between Kara Reid
(15:49):
and Lavel Bailey and actually, I'll play for you here.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
This is what he said.
Speaker 6 (15:53):
Yesterday we saw Man a draftable player. It's interesting because
both with Red and Bay, they were on the phone
heading somewhere six teams and I would say identically an
hour an hour and a half with me emailing the
(16:14):
information relative to free agent guys that make rosters. You know,
everyone can say, hey, free agents have a great shot
of making our team, and you we had a history,
our scouts did a great job of putting together seventeen years,
eighteen nineteen years with me as a head coach and
so and then getting that information. So the process with
(16:38):
those two players I felt like was almost identical. You know,
I can't recall the teams, but we flipped.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Them and.
Speaker 6 (16:48):
Man it you know, you're you're putting Greg Penner on
the phone with them, You're you're you have the whole
scouting room, you know, stand up and yeah, yeah, you're
being creative because it's so unique. The draft ends and
here is this hour and a half period where there's
(17:09):
just so much happening and trying to organize it and
prioritize it to where you're signing the.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Highest graded players first while you're on the phone. Maybe
with Plan B or C. It's it's not an exact science.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Yeah, I need to talk for almost four minutes on
this on the whole process of the udfas. But the
Broncos sent out and idn't think about it really until
they sit out the tweet. The say out of the
tweet about twenty one or the last twenty two seasons
they've had a UDFA on the initial active roster, and
again Karne Reid had some really.
Speaker 2 (17:45):
Nice moments during camp. But I do think from.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
A big picture standpoint, the addition of Coarne Read on
this roster also gives the Broncos and more specifically Sean
Payton a bit of a marketing arm when it comes
to talking to these udfas after the draft. Hey, we
had another guy just this last year make it the
roster again. You know, last two years ago is Blake Watson,
and we had Lavelle Bailey made it right out you.
(18:09):
I mean, hey, come here, Udfa, you have a chance.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:13):
I think I think because they felt like they didn't
want to give up on him. The byproduct of that
decision is exactly what you just said. But I don't
think you can reverse it and say, hey, we want
to make sure we have fodder for next year's guys
that are undrafted, let's make sure we keep it. I
don't think it works that way, but I think again,
(18:36):
the byproduct of keeping a guy like Karana.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Reid is your ability.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
Now it adds to what you can use in selling
coming here as an undrafted free agent, no doubt about that.
Speaker 5 (18:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
And again it's not to say he didn't earn the
roster because we talked about Karana Reid.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
He made some plays.
Speaker 3 (18:53):
He made plays in the pre season. He certainly did that.
So it's not to take away from that.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
But you got to have both your Sean and who
talked about it for four minutes and then they sit
out the tweet.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
You get to kind of have both then I mean,
at the.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
End of the day, you do get that point if
you're you know, if you're calling up guys it's late
in the seventh round, you're calling guys that you know
we're gonna be undrafted or whatever. Hit them on the
phone saying hey, come here, you've got a real shot
at making the roster. Look what we've done last couple
of years. Yeah, that's a sales point, and that for
a lot of these guys. I mean, that's what it's about.
You know, you're trying to make the roster. So I think, uh,
I think it is, whether by hook or by crook,
(19:27):
it is a sales point.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
If they intended that or not.
Speaker 1 (19:30):
Yeah, again, we'll see if that ultimately bears fruit. But
it's something that the Broncos do pride themselves on, and
obviously Sean Payton prides himself on all right. Five six
six nine Zeros are Kawae Commas Sperhill texton if you
want to interact with us, we're gonna be on until
five thirty tonight as.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
The Rockies are taking on the Astros. We'll come back.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
We'll kind of update you on what the Broncos ultimately
did here with their practice squad, some of the players
that all ought to not to come back to Denver,
including the players that obviously chowse here and I think
the Broncos did pretty good overall.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
So we'll get to all that coming up next right
here on KAWA. There are some.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Reports coming out from after practice. Now Sean isn't speaking,
so there isn't any more detail that can be offered.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
He will speak with the media tomorrow.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
He did yesterday obviously, but today Riley Moss, I don't
know what else is going to end up speaking. But
there are reports coming out from the media that were
present that Marvin Mims did not finish practice, So we're
efforting information on that, but that is obviously the latest.
Speaker 2 (20:32):
So I don't want to you know, we certainly can't
speculate because we didn't seen any of it. But you know,
hopefully he's okay.
Speaker 1 (20:36):
But I want to let you guys know that that
is out there right now, out there on Twitter, and
people are texting in and asking us a little bit
about that. Keidrin Smith, by the way, ends up being,
according to my cliss, the final member of the practice squad,
so I will not be Courtney Jackson, who we wondered
about in the first segment because the Seahawks tweeted out
their practice squad list.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
That didn't include him.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
So, and it's my knowledge here between Jrwan Newton, Courtney Jackson,
Joaquin Davis, and Carries Rowan, I don't think any of
them at least right now are on a practice squad,
which is to Dave's credit.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Sometimes we well.
Speaker 5 (21:14):
No, it wasn't like I didn't think those guys could play.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
No, No, I didn't think you said that. I'm saying, like,
but you you told me.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
Sometimes we are watching these guys going, oh my gosh,
this guy's amazing.
Speaker 2 (21:23):
He keeps making these catches and he keeps doing these things.
Speaker 5 (21:25):
And you know, and all that, all that was true.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Yeah, and then sometimes you see in moments like this, Okay,
well it's it's not view the same necessarily. So that's
just more of acknowledgement overall practice squad.
Speaker 2 (21:39):
I mean, not too many surprises. I guess Sam Ellinger
is the one that got the most run.
Speaker 1 (21:43):
Today because he had a couple of teams vying for
him on active fifty three man rosters.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
But I don't know, David.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
It feels like because of the rules, you're probably gonna
use use your call ups, and then if he'll probably
spend most.
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Of the year on the fifty three anyways, right, I.
Speaker 5 (21:58):
Would have to think that was.
Speaker 4 (22:02):
My guess would be that was part of the deal,
because if what we read is true and he actually
had an offer to join a team in the fifty three,
then simply from a financial standpoint, and I can't remember
all the all the numbers, but Sam is like, this
is his what fifth year?
Speaker 5 (22:23):
I think fourth or fifth year? I mean quarterbacks on
an active roster.
Speaker 4 (22:31):
I mean if they get the minimum in the fourth
or fifth year, that's more, I think, quite a bit
more than he could make on a practice squad.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
Three fifteen to three ninety six. It was what he
would make per year on a practice practice squad three
fifteen minimum, three ninety six maximum.
Speaker 4 (22:46):
All right, let's just say, let's just say he's the
max guy. That's four hundred what's the minimum veteran's salary
for Is he a fourth or fifth year guy?
Speaker 2 (22:55):
I'm bringing up what was his first year?
Speaker 5 (22:58):
Fifth year guy?
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Fifth year guy?
Speaker 4 (23:00):
Over a million dollars? Isn't it for a minimum? Were
close to it?
Speaker 3 (23:04):
I think it's close I'm not sure if it's oh,
it is over a million. Actually it's moved to one
point one seven.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
Okay, I mean hello, yeah, we're not CPA's salary. We
can figure out that's about one point one four hundred.
That's like seven hundred grand. I would think I would
think that, No, it's more than thirty percent.
Speaker 3 (23:29):
Four hundred thousand, three ninety six would be about thirty percent.
Speaker 5 (23:31):
Of oh, of his Oh yeah, he's given him seventy percent.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
Yeah, that's what I was doing.
Speaker 5 (23:36):
He's making three yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
So my guess, and again I have no information, but
my guess is they've said, hey, you're just give us
a little.
Speaker 5 (23:44):
Bit of time. You're going to be on the fifty three.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
Yeah, well that was who is it? Brett Rippen had
that as part of his deal renumber. When Bretton's put back,
he had that I get a certain amount.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
It was written in his contracts.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
So ILL would imagine that's probably just echo your point,
that's they have precedent with this.
Speaker 2 (23:59):
I would imagine that's the way.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
Yeah, because Sewan has talked about it multiple times about
the emergency quarterback and having that option, and you can
only do that if you're on the fifty three. They're
very well aware of this, but because of the economics
and the juggling that you have to do, they felt
like they hit Sam Ellinger back and there's other guys
they didn't think they could.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
And that's ultimately why he was out there.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
So that that report came out that he had a
couple of teams that were interested in bringing him on
to the fifty three.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
In this case, I think you're right. I think it
is more or less guaranteed that he's going to get.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
That Callam's rock Morton back, Jane Robinson, Jordan Miller, Jordan Turner,
Rhys Taylor. So on the dB there talked about the
two wide receivers Adam Prentiss because, yeah, our fullback Michael
Burton done for the year.
Speaker 4 (24:38):
Must be a bad hemmy who right, Yes, I mean
that's I'm.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
Not a doctor. That's have you ever had a hamstring that?
Speaker 4 (24:48):
Oh yeah, I've seen hamstring's rupture to where you missed
the year and even to the point where you're you're
not you. You don't want that, And I'm not saying
Burton has a ruptured hamstring.
Speaker 5 (24:59):
But that that you're not ever right. Sometimes you don't
come back period from that. Yeah, especially guys guys that
have to be able.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
To run absolutely.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (25:09):
Let's see here, Caleb Bloner, we talked about him.
Speaker 1 (25:12):
Uh, offensive lineman, Joe Micalsko probably Butcher that sorry, Garrett
wallow De laboratory.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, back with the team.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Former draft pick.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
Steve that Water guy?
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Is he do he likes d T Why? Always? It's
a safety man, you know, he's safeties.
Speaker 3 (25:31):
Just saying him Atturney Yell and Devon Key heab both
of them.
Speaker 5 (25:34):
That's those are the Steve Atwaters.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Why stamp of approval? Did he like Jael Skinner? Yeah, okay,
he likes all safeties. But well, it's.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Funny you bring that up because sometimes when you play
the position, you maybe you're a little more critical of it,
Like you're a little like I we talked about with
John Elway and finding quarterbacks, but you have a different
view on the position when you played it. I mean,
I imagine for you watching wide receivers, you'd probably have
a keener eye on what they're doing.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
I mean my eyes gravitate to them. Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (26:04):
So do you find yourself looking fit receivers for the
same traits that made you great. No, you don't know, okay,
because there's somebody like John. John did that with quarterback.
He would look for guys that had the same.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
And that's why we had a hard time find tools.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
Yeah, I mean, it's uh No, I think I think
I will say this. I think the single even in
today's game, and I'm not sure receiver coaches in the
league agree with this, OCS or whatever, the single most
important trait of a wide receiver in the NFL is
his ability to catch the ball. Contested catches, tough catches
(26:42):
you got.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
To have, even if you're a speed guy.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
You've got to be willing at times, not on a
regular basis, but you've got to be willing to run
a slant, to run a basic route and go in
and get it. We're talking about the NFL, and I
think too often I see guys around the league that
are and I realize the game is different and players
(27:06):
psychologically or different, but there's just too many balls on
the ground for me, right, I mean that that would
be I mean, if I were ever, you know, ever
a receiver coach in the league man to me, that's it,
and without you know, it's a bit hyperbolic, but figuratively speaking,
(27:28):
when you go in the middle of the field, you've
got to be willing to sell your soul to come
down with that ball.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
That's how important it has to be to you.
Speaker 4 (27:36):
And it can't be like, well, I'm going to get
twelve targets today, that one could have put me in danger. No, bro,
you're paid. You're paid to go in and deal with
that and make that catch and stand up and look
at that defensive back and just smirk as you walk
back to the huddle.
Speaker 5 (27:52):
I mean, that's that's the NFL. To me, at least,
I love it.
Speaker 1 (27:57):
By the way, all the media moments ago must have
been told this because they all tweeted it out the
same time. Marvin Mims Junior being evaluated for a groin injury,
that's why he left practice, And every single one of
the people are out there says team is not overly concerned.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
They all said that.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
You know why, because it's not they're gun No.
Speaker 4 (28:17):
I just I just Kidn't nobody's ever concerned with is
somebody else's body?
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (28:23):
No, I think it's good news that the team doesn't
feel like it's going to be a significant injury. Because
I mean, you want him like ready to go. It's
one of the things Sean talked to me in the
I know we got to go talk to me in
the I'm not sure that was on the air that
segment or not, but he talked about why he likes
the idea of having this next week off. He said, Now,
he talked about it, if you get somebody nicked in
(28:44):
a game. Reason I can play these guys a little
bit in in the last preseason game is they've got.
Speaker 5 (28:50):
Two weeks before the opener.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
Right, if next weekend the opener, then I probably wouldn't
wouldn't play these guys in the final preseason game. So
I think I think the hopefully applies to Marvin Mims.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
Yeah, I guess.
Speaker 1 (29:02):
Sean Payton came out, even though he wasn't scheduled to
practice to talk. He came out and told the reporters
specifically about Marvin Mims, how about.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
That, Well, you know what, I think, I think we
would call that nip it in the butt.
Speaker 3 (29:16):
Yeah, you would have seen that thing get out this
evening and then that's like wildfire. The next thing you know,
Sean Payton's answered, how many questions are a.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Baseball coming to five thirty to nights taking on the
Astros looking for a series win. We'll get into some
of that a little bit later on. I definitely want
to get more of your thoughts on what CEU is
going to do their season starting on Friday. Can you
please stop doing that that is so obnoxious?
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Would you like me to squat all the way down
for the microphone.
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I'd like you just to do that ahead of time,
or just not do it at all. That's it? Okay, Yeah,
like an adult. Thank you. The news for Marvin Mims
as we're seeing from what are you treating? Not sure?
Speaker 5 (30:00):
Go ahead?
Speaker 1 (30:01):
The news from Marvin Mims looks positive as he left
practice earlier today, according to multiple reporters out there, looks
like it was a groin injury. But quote that's even
been sent to Adam Scheffer moments ago, not overly concerned.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Yeah, I got a message while we were during the
break about the Marvin Mims stuff basically that you know,
I mean, he hadn't even gone down, He just had
to be helped out. He knew something was wrong and
had to go go off with trainers.
Speaker 2 (30:27):
She had to be helped off.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Had a build of a lamp and Sean Payton obviously
would he go address that.
Speaker 1 (30:31):
It's probably to Dave's point that he made just a
moment ago, probably the right thing to do. I mean,
otherwise the speculation gets rampant. I mean, you have do
have practice tomorrow, and I imagine, I don't know, you
probably can't hold him out of those those practices until
next week at this rate.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Yeah, I mean, you've got plenty of time to assess
the injury and keep him out if you need to.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
There's a lot of people almost immediately went to the well,
you know, you'd be nice to have von Vailey.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
At this Oh yeah, I mean, obviously Val doesn't play
the Diza, but that would be it be most we
try Franklin reps. But yeah, I mean, it'd be nice
to have another certainly reliable body who can catch the football.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
I don't know, man. We did a show last night.
Speaker 1 (31:09):
With our guy Mario, and we talked a lot about
the offense. I keep kind of vacillating back and forth
on my optimism or I guess pessimism level about it.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
I ultimately think they're going to be just fine.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
I ultimately think there's probably some things that we don't
know about how optimistic they are about what they can do,
because again as media, we don't see everything.
Speaker 2 (31:28):
We don't get see everything.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
But I don't know, man, I mean, as you are,
we're about a week out, we can half out from
the season starting where you sitting today.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
I mean, I think they're they're pretty set as far
as the roster goes. I mean, I think, you know,
if if Nim's is dinged up, that's certainly an eyebrow raiser.
But I think they're pretty happy with with everything overall.
You know, not getting Cordy Jackson back now, and the
light of that may look maybe another eyebrow raiser, and
(32:00):
and maybe they should have been a little more aggressive
in their they're sort of, hey, we want to keep
you around because he went where he felt loved up,
which you know turned out to be Seattle. As far
as the roster goes, I don't, I don't know. I
don't think there's any real major moves out here. You know,
I see the issim and stuff, and that was never
in the cards. We had somebody asking about estimate he's
(32:20):
with the Eagles now. I think they're they're fairly happy with.
Speaker 1 (32:24):
What they got that was an interesting deal this time
of year because there's a certain amount.
Speaker 2 (32:27):
And I'm glad you brought it up because the.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
We want you back versus are actively trying to bring
you back. And if you drag your feet on those
kinds of things, I mean, we we found it right away.
Audric estimated tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (32:42):
Mathis weren't coming back now tomorrow was claimed on waivers,
so it's a little bit different.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
We did well, we do that before they were cut,
but they weren't coming back. Go fair Fair.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
But I'm just saying, like, some guys know that there's
going to be a market for them if because they
in a sense like hey, I'm RB five or I'm
wide receiving or I'm quarnerback six, in a sense that
I might not make roster, you start putting your feelers
out in understanding what your market might look like before
this thing happens. So then you know, well, if I'm
reached for a comment or reach for any kind of
(33:10):
insight on whether I'm going to stick around or not,
then I can tell.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Them no, I've got a lot of offers and a
lot of options.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Yeah, And that's I mean in the post cut scrum,
especially on that Monday. If you're not aggressive and trying
to bring your guy back and somebody out there's loco,
they're going to burden the hand and offering the hands
worth more than waiting around.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
And for Cordy Jackson, a.
Speaker 3 (33:33):
Guy who uh they did want back, but didn't you know,
pursue in an appropriate manner or an appropriate timeframe, you
wind up losing him to Seattle on.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
The ka Comsperil text line five six six nine zero.
It's probably a stupid question. It doesn't have to be.
Why does the long snapper count towards the fifty three?
Cannot save a spot by making one of the backup
linemen do the long snapping duties?
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Well, I mean, I guess you could.
Speaker 3 (34:01):
It counts because it counts that everything counts, you know,
as far as is saving a spot if you could
find somebody who.
Speaker 2 (34:07):
Could do it reliably.
Speaker 3 (34:09):
It's a very specialized skill sort of, you know, like
a punter is only there for you know, maybe five
snaps a game.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Right, much less the long snapper. But it's a very
specialized skill.
Speaker 3 (34:20):
And if there were every if anybody could do it,
we wouldn't have drafted a guy. I'd be worried right now.
So you know, I would suggest that those two positions
are and just that concept is a very specialized skill
and it's tough to find people that can do it.
You do have like backup long snappers, like usually a
tight end or yeah, I mean you got somebody else
who's practicing, but somebody who can consistently put the correct
amount of speed on the ball at the exact placement.
(34:43):
I mean, it's it's like playing quarterback upside down and
backwards between your legs, you know, like you're trying to
hit a pass.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
To your punter in the hands at this certain height
so that he can.
Speaker 3 (34:50):
Hit it exactly and time it all out, because I mean,
we see how many how the margins are, we see
how many punts get blocked.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
What a visual. I'm just saying, you just come up
with that. Yeah, that's pretty good. I mean that's right.
I didn't. I just described what happens. But I know,
but I mean, like the way you like, yeah, I
mean that's that's what it is. You twisted yourself in
a non and it's yeah, that was good.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
We had Uh, I don't know if you guys remembered
to combine a couple of years ago, Charlie Coggins was
hanging out in the Combine bathroom passing out literature, trying
to get.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
On with the team.
Speaker 3 (35:20):
Just just he was giving out koozies and coasters with
his stuff. This inverse contact if he wound up going
to the Panthers for a season.
Speaker 1 (35:26):
So long snappers, honestly, there are positions we talked about it,
like backup quarterback is like one of the best physicians ever.
Speaker 2 (35:33):
Right, long snapper, you.
Speaker 3 (35:34):
Can you can have a decade and a half career
in the NFL as a long snapper.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Yeah, that's it's the best.
Speaker 3 (35:38):
And they can't really contact you, right, I mean you don't.
Speaker 2 (35:41):
You don't. You don't have to do a lot of tackling.
You don't have to do a lot.
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Of anything other than just get good at snapping the
ball and just being a you know, a good upside
down between the legs quarterback to one specific target five
times a game. All right, we'll uh get news and
traffic here at the top of the hour. Now's your
