Second consecutive, really tough loss on the road. What couple
of things after you've seen the film, what couple of
things can the entire team do or maybe even specifically
offensively that can help you guys get over the hump
and start to win some of these really tight, winnable games.

Yeah, that's a good question, Dave. I truly believe it
just comes down to the small and simple things. How
we're controlling the line of screamage number one and number two,
how we're converting down on third down. I mean, I
truly believe the more times that we play within you know,
three to third and five or third and six instead

of you know, third to seven or third or eleven,
and then also cut back our penalties. I think if
we focus on those two things, you know, offense and defensively,
I truly we can turn this around. And obviously, you know,
we were in this situation last year, you know, going
to Tampa, winning the game of Tampa and then going
to Greenbrier and then you know, spending that week out
there and getting to know each other even better as

the team, and then you know, beating the Jets. So
I truly believe like our schedule moving forward is definitely
the way that we want it to be. And you know,
we just got you know, dig deep, work a little
bit harder during the weekend, and get back on track.
And I truly that we'll do that this week.

You guyss have done something over the past couple of
weeks that I actually I am actually rooting for and
looking to see more. And that's a running the ball
coming on in that second half, you guys were brilliant
taking the ball down the field and the guy lean
to charge was JK Dobbins. I mean, what was that
like watching him actually come out and score that touchdown?
After halftime against his former team.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Huge for us. You know, obviously we want to run
the ball. We gotta do a lot better job or
running the ball. We got to you know, do a
lot better job of, you know, putting us in situations
where you know the coach wants to call it. You know,
Coach sp and I too, we believe that, you know,
moving forward down the stretch, he's gonna rely us on
even more, just like he did last year. And you know,
watching JK do his thing is awesome, man, you know,

opening up holes and watching that boys spring. You know,
we had the back truly, I truly believe that we
have the two of the best backs in the league
when it comes to explosiveness and you know, making sure
that we get the ball down the field and we
gotta feed. We gotta feed the beast. And you know
when you watch him coming to this week, you know,
especially all this preparation, you know he was fired up
to play as you know, this team that his old

team that he was on, and you know, we we
need to do a better job of, you know, when
we have those type of guys on our team to
close out those games for those guys, and you know,
give them the love and support. But you know, watching
them score and watch them do his thing is awesome. Man.
I can't wait to see what he does moving down
the stretch.

Yeah, you talked about it in a moment ago about
being better on first and second down as it relates,
of course, to getting not in these third and long situations.
I know, again that's the coaching staff and their calls ultimately,
but from the player's standpoint, from the execution standpoint, what
are what are those situations kind of look like for
you guys when it comes to trying to put yourselves
in more advantageous positions later on in the down in

the drive.

We just got to execute, you know. I mean, I
truly believe, you know, an old coach once told me,
you know, it's not the plays, it's the players, And
you know, I understand that to a certain extent, but
I truly believe, like when you call the plays, we
have the players to make each play go. And I
truly believe we just got to you know, toneing in
our assignments, make sure that we're we're blocking, and make

sure that you know, number ten pills feels good in
the pocket, and then you know, obviously, you know, when
we give him time and comfortable and get him in
a situation where he feels that you know, he can't
because is when both shreds defenses and you know we
saw last year, and so we just got to get
his confidence level up. We got to get him cooking
and what we need him to do. And obviously, you know,
the boys up front, you know, I truly believe that

we have one of the best all lines of football,
if not the best, And we just got to continue
to build and you know, eventually we're going to start
winning these close games. And that's just what the football does.

Yeah, when you when you look at these last two weeks,
and again we know that playing in the NFL is hard.

It's rewarding at times.

Uh, it's a lot more fun coming to work when
you're winning, and it's not all that fun when you're
when you've lost a couple of games like that. Do
from a veteran standpoint, do you since early in the
season any any level of frustration, maybe more so than
the normal frustration during the week from the guys in

terms of like offensively being able to have that that
four quarters of consistent play or is this just something
that it's early in the season. Some of you guys
figure you're going to find a way to get worked out.

No, No, for sure, I truly truly believe that.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
You know, I think the younger.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Guys don't truly understand what the NFL is about, you
know what I mean, Dave, when it comes to the
frustrations and losing these close games, and you know, us best,
some players, we need to do a better job, and
you know, understanding that. You know, football is a long season.
It's not a spring the marathon. And you know everyone's
heard that same before and I truly believe that. And
you know, really, you just got to come to work

humble and hungry every single day. And sometimes, you know,
football sucks, and sometimes it's amazing, and the more that
you win, it's amazing. But when you lose these close
games two weeks in a row, on the game when
it can go, it freaking sucks. I mean, there's there's
no ifs and hands about it. Like football is miserable
when you lose close games like this. But I think
what we have to realize is you know that I've realized,
(05:52):
especially you know, over the last couple of years is like,
you know what, football is still fun. You still got
to enjoy it, You still gotta love it, You still
gotta love your brothers, because when it's out there, you
know you're gonna miss those moments. You're gonna miss the
times where it sucks, and you're gonna miss those times
where it's amazing. And really just got to come up
with a positive attitude every single time. And I think
we have a lot of positive people in the building,
(06:12):
you know, from top down, and I truly believe we
have a great team that is humble and hungry and
ready to win, and we just got to find a
way to win. And I truly believe that we're going
to get right back on track where we belong. And
you know we got we got a big time game
coming up here on Monday night football in front of
our home crowd, which is the best home crowd and
all of the NFL, and you know, they give us
that juice, they give us that excitement. I know the

guys that made mistakes the last two weeks aren't going to.

Make those mistakes again because we.

Have a team guys that are just you know, eager
to learn and ego to get better. So I'm really
looking forward to seeing what happens here in the next
couple of weeks.

Yeahl let's talk about that process for a little and
take the listeners inside the locker room. When you are
playing a game like this and it's all stressful and
there's a lot of pressure associated with it, and every
player wants to go out and make a play, make
a positive play, how do you guys come together collectively
to put.
Speaker 8 (07:03):
These last two games behind you.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
And therefore move on and therefore make every day before
the game a great game.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I think what we did in the Coats game was
you know what we did in the Tennessee game. Obviously,
you know, we we won. And then when we played
the Colts, I thought there was a lot of good
things that we did and there was also some things
that we just physically can't do. And then obviously, you know,
in the Charges game, I felt like we stat when
we needed to score. We need to score, you know.
In the in the Coats game, we started off fast
(07:35):
and we scored on our first drive, you know, and
then in the Charges game, we didn't score on our
first time. We didn't score until colases a halftime, So
you know, sometimes there's some bumps in the road as
you go through, you know, the four quarters of the game.
You know only that the sixty minutes and stuff. It's
a four hour football game, and you gotta, you gotta,
you gotta see how many times you can you know,
avoid those speed bumps, and sometimes you're gonna have those,
and sometimes you have to roll through the punches and

go through those things. But I truly believe that, you know,
as a core group of a team of the Denver Broncos,
I truly believe that we have we're doing a lot
of great things. I think our special teams is doing great.
We got to turn over in the game, you know,
that was super positive. We got to turn that into points.
Or you know, when the offense was in the red zone,
we got to score. You know, if we scored instead
of don't you know not you know, ten to seventeen,

it's it's ten to twenty four. So you know, those
are the different moments, those crucial situations in those games
where you know, the ebbs and blows of the game
that we have to score points to win. And I
thought our defense played outstanding. I thought they handled what
they needed to do. You know, if you would have
said that, you know, the Chargers offense is only gonna
have three points, you know, it's what three to seven,
(08:38):
you know a halftime or toward ten to seven and
a half time like that was just that's just a
crazy expanse, especially with the high power offense they had.
So our defense is doing what they need to do.
They're gonna continue to do what they do. We gotta
we gotta take off of each other when one when
one unit's down, the other unit's got to step up.

And you know, this is this is the point.

Where you're gonna find out who we truly are in
these next couple weeks. Is can we can we go
from one to two to two and two to three
and two and then just continue to go down the
stretch like we did last year? And you know we
have we have the team to do it, we have
the dangerous weapons to do it, we have the coaching
staff to do it.

I think you know as a kid you always dream
about playing on Monday night and Sunday night football. I'm
a big believer in Sunday night football. I love, I
love Sunday night football. Well, obviously we have Monday Night
and it's still the same feelings. It's still you know,
the last game of the week.

The difference is, you know, you have an extra bonus
day when you play on Monday, so you've got to
navigate through that when you were younger, but as you
get older, you cherish these moments. Man, everyone's watching, everyone's

a primetime game in Mile High I mean, I truly believe.

and I guess when a coach says we're considering everything,
that's usually a pretty good indication about the direction things
are headed.

It was a tough performance. Chiefs are not a bad defense.
For what it's worse, No, chiefs are. Chiefs are a
good defense. They are, you know so.

But it was one thing to keep in mind, even
with this situation with russ in New York, that was
never a good fit to begin with, because on what
you mean, Oh, come on what so so you're saying
that was a great fit.

doubled him. They take him out of the equation. So

have a decent And I said, I say that with
all due respect, I mean the Giants don't have a
decent run game.

some point you bring in Jackson Dark. Now he's not
gonna fare too much better. He should gonna run around
a little more, right, may create more passing opportunities, but
he's not gonna fare any better because he doesn't have enough.

He was a great player in Seattle. There were moments
in which he was good here, he was functional here.
But I think anybody who follows the game would say,

and decided to move on from a guy who started
the majority of games at quarterback. That would be if
I was another team out there, that would be like, Okay,
wait a minute, he's he's an unrestricted free agent and
the Steelers are not making any attempt to keep him.

Because that was like putting a band aid on a
gunshot one. I mean, you look at Pittsburgh, same thing,
Denver Broncles, same thing, the Giants, same thing. And Dave
alluded to talking about Russell's time with the Seattle Seahawks.
Look at the players that they had on both sides
of the ball. Look at the the ability for the
wide receivers to create where Russell would scramble, Guess what

the guys would do. They would not stand as statue
where they were. They would try to move and create
more opportunities for him. You're not seeing that now, right,
So a lot of the glaring issues with Russ are
showing up more when he goes to a team.

Then that team doesn't have a supporting cast. Hmm.

Guess I have resigned to the fact that I don't
know if there's really a fit for what Russell Wilson does,

the NFL wants a quarterback that takes a lot of

I would be very shocked if Russell Wilson is playing
football next year. Yeah, and I think really have a
couple of options. I don't think so as the starting
quarter back. And I just can't wrap my head around
him deciding, you know, I'm okay being a backup quarter
I just that that doesn't seem those two things don't

seem to connect for me when I think of Russell
me too.

So well, hell that's where he is right now.

retire like tomorrow. No, he's there. He was a starter now.
I think he'll end this season gracefully. And but I
I just I don't I don't see him playing next year.

how it's going to play out. The only scenario, right
would be something like the Giants where they draft somebody
high and they need a bridge.

Have to decide I'm willing to be the bridge quarterback.
I mean, Russell views himself whether we agree or disagree
or reject the notion.

when you think about it, if if his career ends
at the end of this year and he didn't really
get any more tick, he's the backup quarterback to Jackson Dart.

part of what he does. But he went over passing

he's still not like really high up there, and I
know that number. But he hasn't made any appearances in
the Super Bowl, hasn't won the Super Bowls. Obviously, he
did win the MVP. So we talked about dominance in

the league over the time that he's been playing, and
been argued more of the straight stats of it, and
that was his art.

I think I think there has to be sort of
a melding of those two categories, right. I mean, you
go back when I was playing late in my career.
Dan Marino came in and in his second season in
Super Bowl, they went to the Super Bowl forty nine ers.

So we're gonna hear from Coach Prime. He was on
the New Heights podcast talking about Shoodoor. Sanders says the

he actually knows when fascinating. Also responds to the points
that were made recently about the report that Shoudre Sanders
turned down the Baltimore Ravens draft tum because he didn't
want to sit behind Lamar Jackson. But before we get
to that, I just want to ask you really quick
here and I again, I imagine my guy big Alice smiling somewhere.

Mike Gundy, head coach of Oklahoma State, was fired today
twenty one years. Twenty one years he was with that program.
They still owe him. I think around eighteen million or so,
but it kind of had to move on. It seemed like,
I mean they just lost the Tulsa that it's not
a good program, it's not performing at a high level.
(24:32):
I know people are tuning in for us to break
down Mike Gundy or anything, but what was your reaction
to that.

It's tough for any coach who lose his job, and
especially having a tenure of that many years. You got
to figure that something is going to break. The damn
is gonna break at some point because expectations. When you're
able to bring in a new coach, Ryan, you're able
to reset that schedule, reset that button.

The team, you've been with the team that long.

To me, sometimes individual go you know what, maybe we'll
get them next year. And they got to a point where,

It was another big game this weekend. But that's going

I'm with you on that, and they they were rallying

They have win over Michigan earlier, who was fifteen at
the time. You know, I can state this week and
then they got Texas. That's going to be a really
fun game. But it would have been a lot more

fun with John Matteri, who's been He's been really playing
just at a high level. But you're right, there's there's
a Baker Mayfield ask it's hard not to see a
guy that looks well his stature, in his playing style
and the of course Baker played there, not to think
about that, but yeah, it's just a bit of a
bummer because they've they've been a fun team to watch.
I'm excited to see what what CU is going to

the New Heights podcast and he was so this is
the New Heights podcast with the Kelsey Brothers, and he
was asked about Shaorg Sanders and whether or out they're

whole conversation, and he wanted to talk to Shador as
well as you want to talk.

I don't want to say how went, But how in
the world can somebody fault him for saying or thinking?

Why in the world. Would I go back up Lamar
for ten more years? For sure. I've never said.

On the bench and said, well I learned a lot today.

That's a great line. It is a great line.

There's a couple of flaws here for me, very quickly.

First one is and we don't know what his career
will ultimately look like, but aus right now as a prospect,
Shure Sanders was never in the conversation as Deon Sanders
was as a prospect and what Deon Sanders would go
on to have in his career. So these are two
different conversations obviously different positions, but we'll leave that out
of a second. Just saying from a position standpoint, from
a talent standpoint, okay, not the same conversation, right, Dan
(29:06):
Sanders was expected to be good when he came out
of college, and he was amazing in a Hall of
Fame career and one of the all time greats. Shnorre
Sanders isn't seen in the same category. Second, you're talking
in the fifth round here. This is a different deal.
You're not being brought in in the fifth round for
almost any NFL team to compete for a starting job.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
That just does not exist.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
Now, if you're a second rounder, maybe a third rounder,
depending on the situation, there could be something there. But
when you're a fifth rounder, you're in the backup category
and maybe in a year or two of development they
will give you an opportunity to take a crack at it,
but you're not going to be getting that, and so
to sit I maintained that sitting behind Lamar Jackson would
(29:48):
have been very good and beneficial for his career. Being
part of a winning organization, organization and knows what they're doing,
would have been very beneficial for Shuret Sanders.

I find that.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Argument, even though it was a fun line, to be
very flawed from Coach Prime on a multitude of levels.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
I don't because that just kind of gave you insight
into the mindset that Coach Prime has and the mindset
that he's instilled in his sons. Regardless of what individuals
think about Shador, whether he was he should have been
drafted higher, he thought more of himself and in the
(30:24):
world of competition, you have to think that way. If
you allowed yourself to lean on people and allow them
to validate you, you in a very difficult spot. But
Coach Prime, I don't need individuals to validate me or
my sons, and that's the way he raised them. They're
gonna validate themselves. And Ben and I had this conversation
(30:46):
and he thought, well, no, that was kind of ridiculous
for Lamar to turn down those opportunities.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
But I understand.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
And the idea is that you got Lamar Jackson, got
Jalen Hurts. Why bake the back those two guys up. No,
I want to go to a team where I know
that I could take over at some point. Cleveland gives
him that opportunity.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
I see where he's coming from on it, and you know,
you get those those reps.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
They're very valuable.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
But that's just not exactly how it always works, you know,
for example, and I don't think it's apples to apples.
So I'm not using this completely ignorant of the fact
that it's not the same as the quarterback position.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
But John A. Barn drafted twentieth overall.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Coming to a secondary that looks complete, it looks like
it's set for.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
The most part.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Now, maybe the Broncos would say something different like no, no, no,
you come in and you compete, But they had starters
across the board.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
At every position.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
I mean the Nicols the one that's up for debate
and up for possibility, and you eventually were able to
push on j Quan McMillan As a result, I think
of drafting jodd A Baron. But john A could have
had it in his mind of like, that's a loaded secondary,
why would I want to go to that team and
non apples to apples? But I think you sort of
get in and you find a way to compete and
then you just make your own way that way.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
See that's different.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
You got a quarter You have a quarterback that's being
taken later in a draft than he anticipated, and most
people who anticipated, Well, you have Johnny Barron who's being
drafted in the first round. He was He's being chosen
as a top pick coming into a secondary like this.
Can it be tough? Absolutely, But here's where things even
(32:25):
up for him. You're drafted in the first round, so
they like you. That buys you at least a three
year window regardless of how you plan as a player.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
But he could have maybe an arguments that I'd rather
go a team i'de where I could start right away.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
See the first round is different than any other round.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Well, I said the same thing about what the intention
of drafting a fifth round was, and you said that
was ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
No, because once again, the situations are different because you're
being selected in that point in the first round.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
So regardless of.
Speaker 6 (32:56):
Whatever happens, you're good anything beyond the third round. Hell,
I may even say be on the second round. You're
not good. You can be released at any time.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
I agree.

So you want to be set up in a position
to be successful.
Speaker 1 (33:09):
So you go anywhere you're if you're drafting the first round,
doesn't matter where you're going to go, you just go.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
You just you're good with it.

It's the first round and what it guarantees.
Speaker 6 (33:18):
And guess what, even if you don't work out with
your first team and they don't give you that pickup
that fifth year option, someone else is going to pick
you up.
Speaker 4 (33:26):
You know why your first round. You know you're a
former first rounder. So no, those two things are not
in the same count.
Speaker 1 (33:32):
But you're not guaranteed as a fifth rounder. And I'm
not trying to intentionally be argumentative. IM just saying you're
not guaranteed as a first fifth rounder, no matter where
you went to contend for anything.
Speaker 6 (33:42):
Any Okay, The idea is, if you're drafted anywhere after
the third round, you may want to be a free agent.
Speaker 4 (33:50):
So you can pick where you can go.
Speaker 6 (33:52):
Because there have been guys and I've been in a
situation where teams call after the draft.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
Some teams offer you more money than other teams.
Speaker 6 (34:00):
You want to go to a place that you have
an opportunity to compete where there's not a lot of
veteran guys. When you think about Peyton Manning really quickly,
do you know his backup quarterbacks, Curtis Painter, Jim Sorgey,
you know Rock Ostwalder. A lot of those guys flamed
out because they went to a team with a quarterback
like that.

Second consecutive, really tough loss on the road. What couple
of things after you've seen the film, what couple of
things can the entire team do or maybe even specifically
offensively that can help you guys get over the hump
and start to win some of these really tight, winnable games.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
Yeah, that's a good question, Dave. I truly believe it
just comes down to the small and simple things. How
we're controlling the line of screamage number one and number two,
how we're converting down on third down. I mean, I
truly believe the more times that we play within you know,
three to third and five or third and six instead
(01:07):
of you know, third to seven or third or eleven,
and then also cut back our penalties. I think if
we focus on those two things, you know, offense and defensively,
I truly we can turn this around. And obviously, you know,
we were in this situation last year, you know, going
to Tampa, winning the game of Tampa and then going
to Greenbrier and then you know, spending that week out
there and getting to know each other even better as
(01:28):
the team, and then you know, beating the Jets. So
I truly believe like our schedule moving forward is definitely
the way that we want it to be. And you know,
we just got you know, dig deep, work a little
bit harder during the weekend, and get back on track.
And I truly that we'll do that this week.
Speaker 4 (01:41):

Speaker 6 (01:42):
You guyss have done something over the past couple of
weeks that I actually I am actually rooting for and
looking to see more. And that's a running the ball
coming on in that second half, you guys were brilliant
taking the ball down the field and the guy lean
to charge was JK Dobbins. I mean, what was that
like watching him actually come out and score that touchdown?
After halftime against his former team.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Huge for us. You know, obviously we want to run
the ball. We gotta do a lot better job or
running the ball. We got to you know, do a
lot better job of, you know, putting us in situations
where you know the coach wants to call it. You know,
Coach sp and I too, we believe that, you know,
moving forward down the stretch, he's gonna rely us on
even more, just like he did last year. And you know,
watching JK do his thing is awesome, man, you know,
(02:27):
opening up holes and watching that boys spring. You know,
we had the back truly, I truly believe that we
have the two of the best backs in the league
when it comes to explosiveness and you know, making sure
that we get the ball down the field and we
gotta feed. We gotta feed the beast. And you know
when you watch him coming to this week, you know,
especially all this preparation, you know he was fired up
to play as you know, this team that his old
(02:49):
team that he was on, and you know, we we
need to do a better job of, you know, when
we have those type of guys on our team to
close out those games for those guys, and you know,
give them the love and support. But you know, watching
them score and watch them do his thing is awesome. Man.
I can't wait to see what he does moving down
the stretch.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Yeah, you talked about it in a moment ago about
being better on first and second down as it relates,
of course, to getting not in these third and long situations.
I know, again that's the coaching staff and their calls ultimately,
but from the player's standpoint, from the execution standpoint, what
are what are those situations kind of look like for
you guys when it comes to trying to put yourselves
in more advantageous positions later on in the down in
(03:26):
the drive.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
We just got to execute, you know. I mean, I
truly believe, you know, an old coach once told me,
you know, it's not the plays, it's the players, And
you know, I understand that to a certain extent, but
I truly believe, like when you call the plays, we
have the players to make each play go. And I
truly believe we just got to you know, toneing in
our assignments, make sure that we're we're blocking, and make
(03:49):
sure that you know, number ten pills feels good in
the pocket, and then you know, obviously, you know, when
we give him time and comfortable and get him in
a situation where he feels that you know, he can't
because is when both shreds defenses and you know we
saw last year, and so we just got to get
his confidence level up. We got to get him cooking
and what we need him to do. And obviously, you know,
the boys up front, you know, I truly believe that
(04:11):
we have one of the best all lines of football,
if not the best, And we just got to continue
to build and you know, eventually we're going to start
winning these close games. And that's just what the football does.
Does Dave knows all about that?
Speaker 5 (04:22):
Yeah, when you when you look at these last two weeks,
and again we know that playing in the NFL is hard.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
It's rewarding at times.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Uh, it's a lot more fun coming to work when
you're winning, and it's not all that fun when you're
when you've lost a couple of games like that. Do
from a veteran standpoint, do you since early in the
season any any level of frustration, maybe more so than
the normal frustration during the week from the guys in
(04:52):
terms of like offensively being able to have that that
four quarters of consistent play or is this just something
that it's early in the season. Some of you guys
figure you're going to find a way to get worked out.
Speaker 3 (05:04):
No, No, for sure, I truly truly believe that.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
You know, I think the younger.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Guys don't truly understand what the NFL is about, you
know what I mean, Dave, when it comes to the
frustrations and losing these close games, and you know, us best,
some players, we need to do a better job, and
you know, understanding that. You know, football is a long season.
It's not a spring the marathon. And you know everyone's
heard that same before and I truly believe that. And
you know, really, you just got to come to work
(05:30):
humble and hungry every single day. And sometimes, you know,
football sucks, and sometimes it's amazing, and the more that
you win, it's amazing. But when you lose these close
games two weeks in a row, on the game when
it can go, it freaking sucks. I mean, there's there's
no ifs and hands about it. Like football is miserable
when you lose close games like this. But I think
what we have to realize is you know that I've realized,
(05:52):
especially you know, over the last couple of years is like,
you know what, football is still fun. You still got
to enjoy it, You still gotta love it, You still
gotta love your brothers, because when it's out there, you
know you're gonna miss those moments. You're gonna miss the
times where it sucks, and you're gonna miss those times
where it's amazing. And really just got to come up
with a positive attitude every single time. And I think
we have a lot of positive people in the building,
(06:12):
you know, from top down, and I truly believe we
have a great team that is humble and hungry and
ready to win, and we just got to find a
way to win. And I truly believe that we're going
to get right back on track where we belong. And
you know we got we got a big time game
coming up here on Monday night football in front of
our home crowd, which is the best home crowd and
all of the NFL, and you know, they give us
that juice, they give us that excitement. I know the
(06:34):
guys that made mistakes the last two weeks aren't going to.
Speaker 7 (06:36):
Make those mistakes again because we.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Have a team guys that are just you know, eager
to learn and ego to get better. So I'm really
looking forward to seeing what happens here in the next
couple of weeks.

Yeahl let's talk about that process for a little and
take the listeners inside the locker room. When you are
playing a game like this and it's all stressful and
there's a lot of pressure associated with it, and every
player wants to go out and make a play, make
a positive play, how do you guys come together collectively
to put.
Speaker 8 (07:03):
These last two games behind you.
Speaker 6 (07:06):
And therefore move on and therefore make every day before
the game a great game.
Speaker 4 (07:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
I think what we did in the Coats game was
you know what we did in the Tennessee game. Obviously,
you know, we we won. And then when we played
the Colts, I thought there was a lot of good
things that we did and there was also some things
that we just physically can't do. And then obviously, you know,
in the Charges game, I felt like we stat when
we needed to score. We need to score, you know.
In the in the Coats game, we started off fast
(07:35):
and we scored on our first drive, you know, and
then in the Charges game, we didn't score on our
first time. We didn't score until colases a halftime, So
you know, sometimes there's some bumps in the road as
you go through, you know, the four quarters of the game.
You know only that the sixty minutes and stuff. It's
a four hour football game, and you gotta, you gotta,
you gotta see how many times you can you know,
avoid those speed bumps, and sometimes you're gonna have those,
and sometimes you have to roll through the punches and
(07:57):
go through those things. But I truly believe that, you know,
as a core group of a team of the Denver Broncos,
I truly believe that we have we're doing a lot
of great things. I think our special teams is doing great.
We got to turn over in the game, you know,
that was super positive. We got to turn that into points.
Or you know, when the offense was in the red zone,
we got to score. You know, if we scored instead
of don't you know not you know, ten to seventeen,
(08:18):
it's it's ten to twenty four. So you know, those
are the different moments, those crucial situations in those games
where you know, the ebbs and blows of the game
that we have to score points to win. And I
thought our defense played outstanding. I thought they handled what
they needed to do. You know, if you would have
said that, you know, the Chargers offense is only gonna
have three points, you know, it's what three to seven,
(08:38):
you know a halftime or toward ten to seven and
a half time like that was just that's just a
crazy expanse, especially with the high power offense they had.
So our defense is doing what they need to do.
They're gonna continue to do what they do. We gotta
we gotta take off of each other when one when
one unit's down, the other unit's got to step up.
Speaker 7 (08:55):
And you know, this is this is the point.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Where you're gonna find out who we truly are in
these next couple weeks. Is can we can we go
from one to two to two and two to three
and two and then just continue to go down the
stretch like we did last year? And you know we
have we have the team to do it, we have
the dangerous weapons to do it, we have the coaching
staff to do it.

Now it's just up to us.

Perfectly said, you guys like primetime games. You decided about
Monday night football coming up.

I think you know as a kid you always dream

a big believer in Sunday night football. I love, I

The difference is, you know, you have an extra bonus
day when you play on Monday, so you've got to
navigate through that when you were younger, but as you
get older, you cherish these moments. Man, everyone's watching, everyone's

a primetime game in Mile High I mean, I truly believe.

but there were two or three throws against the Chiefs

gunshot one. I mean, you look at Pittsburgh, same thing,
Denver Broncles, same thing, the Giants, same thing. And Dave
alluded to talking about Russell's time with the Seattle Seahawks.
Look at the players that they had on both sides
of the ball. Look at the the ability for the
wide receivers to create where Russell would scramble, Guess what

the guys would do. They would not stand as statue
where they were. They would try to move and create
more opportunities for him. You're not seeing that now, right,
So a lot of the glaring issues with Russ are
showing up more when he goes to a team.

turned down the Baltimore Ravens draft tum because he didn't
want to sit behind Lamar Jackson. But before we get

Mike Gundy, head coach of Oklahoma State, was fired today
twenty one years. Twenty one years he was with that program.
They still owe him. I think around eighteen million or so,
but it kind of had to move on. It seemed like,
I mean they just lost the Tulsa that it's not
a good program, it's not performing at a high level.

I know people are tuning in for us to break
down Mike Gundy or anything, but what was your reaction
to that.

It's tough for any coach who lose his job, and
especially having a tenure of that many years. You got
to figure that something is going to break. The damn

will ultimately look like, but aus right now as a prospect,
Shure Sanders was never in the conversation as Deon Sanders
was as a prospect and what Deon Sanders would go
on to have in his career. So these are two
different conversations obviously different positions, but we'll leave that out
of a second. Just saying from a position standpoint, from
a talent standpoint, okay, not the same conversation, right, Dan
(29:06):
Sanders was expected to be good when he came out
of college, and he was amazing in a Hall of
Fame career and one of the all time greats. Shnorre
Sanders isn't seen in the same category. Second, you're talking
in the fifth round here. This is a different deal.
You're not being brought in in the fifth round for
almost any NFL team to compete for a starting job.

That just does not exist.

Now, if you're a second rounder, maybe a third rounder,
depending on the situation, there could be something there. But
when you're a fifth rounder, you're in the backup category
and maybe in a year or two of development they
will give you an opportunity to take a crack at it,
but you're not going to be getting that, and so
to sit I maintained that sitting behind Lamar Jackson would

have been very good and beneficial for his career. Being
part of a winning organization, organization and knows what they're doing,
would have been very beneficial for Shuret Sanders.

Argument, even though it was a fun line, to be
very flawed from Coach Prime on a multitude of levels.
Speaker 6 (30:03):
I don't because that just kind of gave you insight
into the mindset that Coach Prime has and the mindset
that he's instilled in his sons. Regardless of what individuals
think about Shador, whether he was he should have been
drafted higher, he thought more of himself and in the

world of competition, you have to think that way. If
you allowed yourself to lean on people and allow them
to validate you, you in a very difficult spot. But
Coach Prime, I don't need individuals to validate me or
my sons, and that's the way he raised them. They're
gonna validate themselves. And Ben and I had this conversation
(30:46):
and he thought, well, no, that was kind of ridiculous
for Lamar to turn down those opportunities.
Speaker 4 (30:51):
But I understand.
Speaker 6 (30:53):
And the idea is that you got Lamar Jackson, got
Jalen Hurts. Why bake the back those two guys up. No,
I want to go to a team where I know
that I could take over at some point. Cleveland gives
him that opportunity.

I see where he's coming from on it, and you know,
you get those those reps.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
They're very valuable.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
But that's just not exactly how it always works, you know,
for example, and I don't think it's apples to apples.
So I'm not using this completely ignorant of the fact
that it's not the same as the quarterback position.

But John A. Barn drafted twentieth overall.

Coming to a secondary that looks complete, it looks like
it's set for.

The most part.

Now, maybe the Broncos would say something different like no, no, no,
you come in and you compete, But they had starters
across the board.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
At every position.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
I mean the Nicols the one that's up for debate
and up for possibility, and you eventually were able to
push on j Quan McMillan As a result, I think
of drafting jodd A Baron. But john A could have
had it in his mind of like, that's a loaded secondary,
why would I want to go to that team and
non apples to apples? But I think you sort of
get in and you find a way to compete and
then you just make your own way that way.

See that's different.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
You got a quarter You have a quarterback that's being
taken later in a draft than he anticipated, and most
people who anticipated, Well, you have Johnny Barron who's being
drafted in the first round. He was He's being chosen
as a top pick coming into a secondary like this.
Can it be tough? Absolutely, But here's where things even
(32:25):
up for him. You're drafted in the first round, so
they like you. That buys you at least a three
year window regardless of how you plan as a player.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
But he could have maybe an arguments that I'd rather
go a team i'de where I could start right away.
Speaker 4 (32:38):
No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 6 (32:38):
See the first round is different than any other round.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
Well, I said the same thing about what the intention
of drafting a fifth round was, and you said that
was ridiculous.
Speaker 6 (32:49):
No, because once again, the situations are different because you're
being selected in that point in the first round.
Speaker 4 (32:55):
So regardless of.

Whatever happens, you're good anything beyond the third round. Hell,
I may even say be on the second round. You're
not good. You can be released at any time.

So you want to be set up in a position
to be successful.

So you go anywhere you're if you're drafting the first round,
doesn't matter where you're going to go, you just go.

It's the first round and what it guarantees.

And guess what, even if you don't work out with
your first team and they don't give you that pickup
that fifth year option, someone else is going to pick
you up.

former first rounder. So no, those two things are not
in the same count.

But you're not guaranteed as a fifth rounder. And I'm
not trying to intentionally be argumentative. IM just saying you're

out because they went to a team with a quarterback
like that.
