Speaker 1 (00:00):
To six o'clock.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
We have Broncos Country tonight. We've been in but all right,
looking forward to whatever rant he's going to be going
off on tonight. Last night he was sulking a bit
rick because nobody seemed to agree with him on this
one hundred thousand percent you go for it on fourth
and one at.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
The twenty nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Like, he is so determined to be right about that,
and he's using his time playing Madness his example, of course,
but that's the advanced metric. But he's so determined to
be right on that. So he had Rod Smith and
Nick ferguson yesterday and I guess Steve Attwater the other night,
all telling him that they disagreed with the sentiment.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
I think there's a good argument for it.
Speaker 2 (00:41):
I think if they would have gone forward, I would
have been like, yeah, that makes sense punting it. Thinking
about your defense and how good they are. I can
see that argument too, So I think it's more of
a discussion point. But Vin is determined to be right,
so we'll see if he does that again tonight.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
I happened to be listening to some of that, and yeah,
they were beating him up pretty good, mocking him for
talking about Madden Football.
Speaker 4 (01:02):
Yes, but there is there is a valid point to that.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
They they played the numbers game, and I thought he
made a pretty good argument. After everybody else left and
he was on his own. On the Broncos Country Tonight show,
he made a point of you know, really hammering that
home when nobody was arguing with him, and he made
an early convincing point, I thought, But I think the
funny part of it is Madden. These are all guys
(01:28):
that played in the NFL, and they're like, dude, you're
gonna you're gonna start talking Madden numbers and percentages.
Speaker 4 (01:35):
Okay, Okay, that was very entertaining.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
It was. It was entertaining. It is fun.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
So I was always interested to see when Ben's on
his own, what kind of rants. Yeah, he's gonna go on,
I have something fun for you that we that date
Heepper was able to grab or play for you a second.
But first you got something cool going on over here.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yeah, got a show Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
We're playing a benefit for Evergreen at the Little Bear
in Evergreen, one of the coolest music venues around. Yes
it is, and all the proceeds will go to Evergreen
Strong and there's a silent auction before the show, and
I asked the Broncos if they could get me something
to auction off and let's open this together. I haven't
(02:19):
opened this yet. I just picked it up. It's in
a box here.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Big white box with a Broncos logo on top.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Okay here, okay, it's a jersey. Okay, and let's I'll
lift it up. So all right, here we go. Look
at that signed Zach.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Allen, assigned Zach Allen Jersey.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Jersey's legit.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
That is so cool.
Speaker 4 (02:44):
That is cool. Check that out.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
That is nice.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
That is nice.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
Yeah, that's that's real.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
That's real. That's the real deal.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Right there, signed Zach Allen Jersey, which, by the way,
reminds me I think we're expected to have Zach Allen
tomorrow on the program.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
So awesome.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, well, thank you Say Too Young and the Broncos
for providing this. It will go to a good cause
and come to the show and support us. We're gonna
be playing from eight till maybe ten thirty at the
Little Bear Tickets or Little Bear Live dot Com. I
think you might be able to walk up and get
some but there's a pretty good chance that might sell
(03:18):
out too, so I'd get him ahead of time.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Definitely should get him ahead of time.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
So it's a cool jersey, and plus go to see
Arrick Luis project is always fantastic. But yeah for a
good cause, for a great cause at the Little Bear
Saturday night. I think that's a cool deal and that
that is awesome. Zach Allen signed jersey.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
Very cool, very cool.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
So as we were talking about some of the games
and the highlights, Dave Tepper's the man.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
He pulled this one for us just for fun. All right,
hands and off scot of.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Me up the middle of the head, cuts up with
the bob stumbling, timing down with the goal line, and
he is in.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Tucks down Giants. You can't stand him with a third seed.
You are tucksdown Rod and the Giants at time the game.
He is cool. Quickly turned into a fan favorite.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
The way he plays the game. It's it's called an
icebag player.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
He and everybody he goes against needs an icebag after
the game.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
That awesome. They didn't mention the backflip. You have to
see that, I guess too.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
It's amazing.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
Really appreciate it.
Speaker 3 (04:16):
A guy his size doing a backflip like that takes
an amazing amount of athletic ability.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
And yeah, he's the guy that's easy to like.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
Hell, I'm sure he's already a fan favorite there in
New York, the biggest market in the National Football League.
You're gonna hear a lot about camp Scattaboo not only
running the ball, but also catching the ball out of
the backfield. They say he's great in pass pro. So
he's checking off all the boxes.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
For them, as Ryan Radkey and Mike Golock with Westwood One.
And you sent me this earlier. This was yesterday. Ashton
Jenny picked number six, one hundred and forty seven yards,
one touchdown, averaging three point one yards per carry.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Camp Scautabou picked one oh five, one hundred eighty nine.
Speaker 2 (04:56):
Yards, two touchdowns, averaging four point four yards per care.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, that's great. It's great to see the underdog come
out on top. And genty, of course, we all loved
Ashton genty. Yeah, and he's going to be a good
football player. He's just off to a really slow start.
He doesn't have a very good team around him, neither
does Scataboo, but that Raiders line just.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
Not opening any big holes. For him.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
I saw something else too, that most of the yards
were after contact. That's right, I'm talking genty geny. Yeah,
that was exactly what I was gonna get to here.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
So he has one hundred and forty four rushing yards
one hundred and forty five rushing yards after context.
Speaker 4 (05:34):
Amazing.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
So he's getting hit in the backfield basically, and he's
fighting for a couple of yards.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
That's just remarkable.
Speaker 4 (05:41):
Yeah, that's frustrating for him.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
I'm sure, yeah, he's.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
It is.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
It's tough because the talent is there, like we saw
in college, but there were some people out there and
I don't want to pile on Ash Jenny.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
It's kind of fun to pile on the Raiders sometimes, but.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
There were people out there that wonder because it was
a Boise state and then when he faced better competition,
he didn't run as well. And that makes some sense, right,
I Mean you think about us versus you know, some
of these power programs. But that was that was the
concern coming out of college. It's like, boy, he racked
up a lot of yards versus.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Some subpar teams.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
What is that going to look like at the pro level,
especially if he doesn't have a great offensive line blocking
for him, and the Raiders do not have a great
offensive line, and so far, it's pretty easy to telegraph
when he's in the game, especially in some of those moments,
what's going to happen, and so teams are just teeing
off on him in the backfield and there's only only.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
So much you can do.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
And I'm I didn't think this is completely an action
Jenny conversation. I think it's a Raiders offensive line conversation,
especially when you go one hundred and forty five yards
after contact.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
He's only rushed for one four but brutal, that's brutal,
Just brutal. Yeah, he's got nowhere to run. I saw
a clip too. He was in pass pro and a
guy ran through him, almost like he was a tackling dummy.
I mean he even slow this dude down at all
in pass pro. And you know, if you're going to
be a three down back, you've got to be able
(07:06):
to pass protect.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
And it didn't look too good.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
I'm sure he hasn't done that much in its entire life.
He certainly didn't have to do it at Boise State
or high school. Now in the National Football League, that's
going to be part of your job, and he's got
a lot of work to do there.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
He does the rookie running back classes is really interesting.
I mean, this was lauded as one of the best ones,
right and Ben and I talked about it on The
Fantasy Show on Sunday. We haven't really seen great returns.
I mean we're talking with Cam Scottaboo and certainly there's
some nice moments there, but of the higher end guys,
including RJ. Harvey, including Treyvon Henderson, Hampton, Hampton.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
It's been tough.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
Now.
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Hampton had a good game against the Broncos, unfortunately, but.
Speaker 1 (07:49):
That was his best game to this point.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I mean, the first two games were kind of forgettable
for Marian Hampton.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
And you know it wasn't until the Nagie Harris got hurt.
Nagie Harris was having a good game. He was, and
you could see that they were going to rely on
him in that game because Hampton hasn't been cutting it
and Harris was. This guy's been a thousand yard running
back four straight seasons and it showed once they put
him in any tour his achilles. And then Hampton did
(08:13):
come in and he did the job.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
For him. That being said, he looks like he's going
to be a good back too.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
He absolutely does. And I'm not even down on RJ.
Harvey or again, this is more of a conversation about
why it does take some time sometimes here and this
is more about at least for the Broncos purposes.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
This is more about, Hey, JK. Dobbins needs to continue
to have a big role. And as you're bringing RJ.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
Harvey along, you know that he's capable of some explosive plays.
He had the fifty one yard run or whatever in
the first game of the season.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
You know he's capable of that.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
But there's some other things about his game that obviously
are not quite clicking.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
So give him some opportunities, give him some tick, as
Dave would say. But boy, we've got to do more
with JK. Dobbins. I mean, that has to happen.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
We talked to Nick Cosmido earlier and it's so un baffling.
He said, it you had one carry in the fourth quarter.
That pulls my mind.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Yeah, you got to feed him, and he's the kind
of back you can't feed. He does everything well as
a running back, he's good in pass pro, he's good
at catching the ball out of the backfield.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
RJ. Harvey's got some catching up to do.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
I do think they're concerned about Harvey in pass protection.
Like a lot of rookie running backs, that's something that
most of them aren't good at and you got to
work at you got to get better. And I think
that's one reason why the Day's out there. But Day
is a versatile guy. He's good in pass pro, He's
good catching the ball out of the backfield. So these
are things that r J. Harvey is going to have
(09:40):
to get up to speed on if he's going to
get more reps.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
I want to go back to the quarterback class from
last year and as we check in with them, because
they're always going to compare to Bonnix. Now, Bononix we
went sixth out of the group. And so after his
rookie year, it was boys Jayden Daniels and bon Nicks
like they were kind of neck and neck right there.
I understood why Jadeen Daniels ended up getting Rookie of
the Year, and I think all of us do. He
(10:05):
had some high level moments, right I mean, there were
some primetime moments, there were some big time.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
Got a lot of coverage.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
He was electric, he was phenomenal, and I didn't fault
any of the voting for going with Jayden Daniels over Bonix.
But we thought, hey, coming into year two, this is
going to be interesting to sort of a monitor.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Now we're into it.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
I haven't given up on Bonnicks being one of, if
not maybe even arguably the best of this class. But
there are certain things like completing some of those deep passes,
making some better plays and not leading to three and
outs that he and this offense, and I say it's
a combination, are going to have to do if we're
going to be in that cover, be in that point
because right now, Michael Penick Junior, Boy, the floor of
(10:48):
Michael Pennock Junior is scary, right JJ McCarthy, the floor
is very, very scary.
Speaker 1 (10:55):
I mean, he's hurt right now, but you saw what
his floor look like.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Caleb's starting to come but we've seen a little bit
of his floor too, and it can be pretty bad.
I appreciate Bonnicks for all the purposes of this conversation
because his floor doesn't scare me too much. His ceiling
may not reach some of the highs of what Jaden
and maybe even Caleb can get to. But I appreciate
the fact that we know what his floor looks like
and it's something you can still win with.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Yeah, all of six of those quarterbacks are still trying
to figure it out to a point, and a few
of them you may even look at it at this
point and go, well, they probably a bust. Pennix, maybe
JJ McCarthy. Although he is hurt, he's still got some
time to see what he can do. Caleb Williams does
(11:40):
seem to be getting better. I do feel like he's.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
On the right track coaching matters.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Jayden Daniels. We saw how good he can be. Drake
May I think he's starting to figure it out too.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Right now.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
Of the class of six, I'm gonna still put Bow
I'd say number two in that class, although he fading
and some of these guys are now ascending.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Let's hope that doesn't happen. Let's hope that bo can hold.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
On to that number two slot there from that quarterback class.
And you got to think he's going to figure it out.
He knows what he can do. We know what he
can do. Peyton knows what he can do. And now
I think the expectations are so high and Peyton's put
more on his plate because Peyton knows what he's capable
of doing. I don't think he'd be putting extra pressure
on him if he didn't know he couldn't handle it,
(12:30):
and it just might take a little bit more time.
Monday night against Cincinnati, that's a game that's going to
be a game. I'm predicting it will be a breakout
game offensively. Yes, I know Bengals are a hot mess, okay,
but they're one of thirty two National Football League teams.
You just saw the Browns get a win that nobody
(12:52):
would have predicted. So Monday could be the get right
game for the Broncos. Give him some confidence going into
phil and we'll see what happens.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yeah, Drake May is off to a nice start, one
one hundred and eighty five passing hours, five passing touchdowns,
same as Bonix. He's only thrown two interceptions and he's
got a rushing touchdown. But he also has this last
week was a bit of a tough game for him.
He threw an interception right there at the goal line,
cost the points in fact they had, and I want
to say it was four or five five, I say
(13:23):
four turnovers. I know Ramandra Stevenson had two fumbles, one
at the goal line. I always say that it was Gibson,
one of their Antonio Gibson, one of their other running backs.
And then Drake May had that that interception at the
goal line too. They lose to the Steelers. They had
no business losing that game to the Steelers, but they
turned the ball over every single time that they had
(13:44):
any kind of momentum, and they just you were talking
about shooting yourself on the fot of me.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
My goodness.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
The New England Patriots were the epitome of that versus
Pittsburgh in a game that they just absolutely gave away.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
So my point of that is is that at.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
This level, at the NFL level, this happens to every team,
good teams, bad teams. The Cleveland Browns beating the Green
Bay Packers in a game that they were eight point underdogs,
that's just what it is.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
It's going to happen. So for the Broncos, it's to
not be.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
An that statistic and to find a way to not
give away moments or opportunities.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
And it starts with the the Cincinnati Bengals.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
This week, and you got to run the football and
they're capable of doing that. Yes, they finally have a
running back.
Speaker 3 (14:24):
Much better every year in the last several years, Ryan
and I pregame show Boda doesn't have enough weapons, blah
blah blah. Well they got a weapon now, and maybe
two with our j Harvey as well if he continues
to make progress.
Speaker 4 (14:37):
But they have a weapon.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
They have a running game that takes a lot of
pressure off of bo Nicks run the ball. They haven't
done that yet. They've shown they can run it, they
just never stick with it. And this would be a
good time Monday night against a bad Bengals team. Run
that football. Take some pressure off your second year quarterback
who's still pressing a bit, and let him make some
(15:00):
throws against a bad Bengals team. I'm predicting. I think
the over under on touchdowns for bow was two and
a half. I believe to something. Okay, I think I
saw that today. I think there's a good chance Bo
has three touchdown passes in this game, and Dobbins could
have one hundred yards in the game. And the defense
(15:20):
got to show up, of course, and we know what
the defense is capable of doing so this is the
get right game for the Broncos coming up Monday night.
But don't take the Bengals for granted. You can't take
anybody for granted in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
So I was looking at the attempts here because I
was kind of curious because you look at the number.
Who say, hey, the Broncos are eighth in the league
right now in rushing one hundred and twenty nine rushing
yards per game.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
So we're saying, you're.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Talking, I'm having a big conversation about the rushing attack,
saying it needs to be better, and you're like, hey,
you're a top ten rushing team.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
But that really doesn't tell the story, now, does it.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
I agree, because I agree they're top ten, but it
doesn't feel like it.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
It doesn't feel like it.
Speaker 2 (15:54):
And that's because you have ninety five passing attempts and
in total, you have seventy five rush attempts. But that
also doesn't really tell you everything because Bonnicks has nineteen
of them, and I'd say maybe only two maybe three
in there would be considered intentional right where you designed
Bonicks to run. So then I would say about sixteen
(16:15):
to seventeen of those you can just take off the board.
So now we're looking at more like fifty five rushing
attempts versus ninety five. And actually that's higher because you
had Bonicks dropping back, so you got sixteen to the
actual passing attempts and now we're about one hundred and ten.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
So one hundred and ten to say fifty seven.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
That tells you more of a story about what the
intention was behind the running game, which, by the way,
is averaging five point two yards per carry on the season.
But I told you that after three weeks would be like,
I'm pretty thrilled about that.
Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
JK.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Dobbins, I think in his careers averaging about five point
three for.
Speaker 1 (16:48):
A career, and he's at five point four for this team.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
And five point four for the season. Yeah, he's a
great asset for this football team. And he's he's a
guy who's a three down back. You can this guy,
and I think we might want to start seeing more
of that with his football team because bow Nicks is
pressing right now. Bow Knicks is feeling the pressure. Things
(17:11):
need to slow down for him a bit, and you
get that going maybe complete some passes over the middle
of the field. Going back to what we talked about
in the last hour. Maybe Pat Bryant, the rookie's ready
to go. Did they trust him enough? I think they
probably do. I think we've seen what he can do.
Let's put him out there, let's see what he can do.
Speaker 2 (17:30):
You made a decision to move on from Devon Bailey
because you thought RJ.
Speaker 1 (17:33):
Harvey, Oh you sorry.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
You thought that Pat Bryans and maybe to a certain extent,
Evan Ingram could fill that void. But certainly it was
an indication that you thought Pat bryan was a head
of schedule, right, it had to be.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
Yes, absolutely, and maybe a little bit of a rot
for Franklin.
Speaker 4 (17:47):
Franklin too.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Yeah, and Franklin for the first two games was tremendous,
but then didn't have much of a role.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Nothing against the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
No so, and maybe that's just going to be some
of the pass catchers besides Coral and Sutton. But why
did you bring it Evan Ingram in here? Didn't play
we three. I understand, but I'm just saying, like, why
is he here if he's not going to be the
number two target consistently on this team. It's not to
say at the end of the season we don't get
there and say, oh, eventually he got there. It's like, no,
I want to feel it. I want to feel that
Evan Ingram is the number two guy on this team.
Speaker 3 (18:17):
I feel like we're still waiting to even see him.
Although he did play in the first two games, I
don't think we really saw him.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
We didn't notice him at all.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
That's exactly right. Yeah, like he was out there, but
he didn't feel it.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
You know, you feel when these higher level tight ends
are in the game, you do you do.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
And he's and he's considered an elite tight end. He's
in that he's probably what top five, top six, yeah,
tight end of the league went healthy.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Win healthy, And so hopefully he can get some practices
in this week and he'll be a back for this
game on Monday night. Opportunities are definitely there for the
Broncos offense to feel a little better about themselves. But
this is something that we got to start seeing and
we if I get to the end of the season
and it feels like all this handwringing about well, this
isn't working and this isn't doing and this is maybe
(19:02):
that's all gone and they win ten or eleven games
and they're back in the postseason and they're playing somebody
from the AFC South in the first round, and we're like, yeah,
everything's great, seemed worked out just fine. But in the
moment right now, it is a little frustrating because you
see how close it could be, and you just got
to stop with the self inflicting stuff.
Speaker 4 (19:23):
They basically beat themselves in the two games.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
They fall time and time again.
Speaker 3 (19:27):
Yeah, I mean, and the other team executed when they
needed to execute. So but the worst timing possible. You
make a mistake and the other team is able to
execute and win a football game in that close though,
and turn this around. Don't don't get down on this
team yet. Ronco's Country. They're gonna get better, and they're
gonna be better. Give them another ten games, thirteen games in,
(19:51):
I think you're gonna feel much better about it.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
To hear what Ben is going to rants abouts and
what he thinks he's right about. Wonder's abound. I'm sure
it'll be something and that we're all getting wrong. I
can't wait to hear it. That's coming up at six o'clock.
We got Rockies baseball at seven. He's smiling over there.
He's very excited about it, looking forward to it. Rick Lewis,
Ryan Edwards five six six nine zeros or Kawae Commas
(20:21):
Spiry Hill text. I want to talk about the bus
here in a second, but a couple of texts that
came in here. Evan Ingram is a glass house. I
thought it was a desperate signing.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Well yeah, I mean yeah, when you signed a bunch of.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Guys that have injury history, that's part of the deal, right,
especially when you're talking about free agents. There's a big
reason why. And it's a cliche and I know we
say it a lot, but there's a reason why these
guys are available. Sometimes they're priced out because they're very
good players, but more times than not, there's some kind
of injury history or otherwise that has made them free
(20:55):
agents and there's a reason why they're current team or
in that case, former team isn't bringing them back.
Speaker 4 (21:02):
You know.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
The Drake Greenlaw situation is the more unique one because
the San Francisco forty nine ers really did try to
keep him. They made every effort to keep Drake Greenlaw,
but could not convince him to not sign with the
Denver Broncos. But most of the time it's like, hey,
when a guy's leaving, teams just sort of accept that
(21:22):
as part of the deal, that hey, well we can't
pay everybody, so these guys are going to go get
paid somewhere else, and we're happy for them.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Somebody had just texted and Rick about to Evan Ingram.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
Being a glass house and thought it was a desperate signing.
It's like, well, maybe you can be viewed of slightly
desperate because of what your tight end room was. It
would have been interesting in hindsight. And I'm not done
with Evan Ingram and I don't think you are either.
I think at the end of the season we're going
to be saying a lot more positive about him. I've
surely certainly hope so. But it was viewed as a
(21:53):
very stacked tight end draft class, and so because you
signed Evan Ingram, you didn't feel desperate at that position.
But you wonder if the Broncos had felt a little
more desperate, would they have taken a tide in much
earlier in the draft. That could be contributing right now.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Yeah, you go out on a limb a bit when
you're signing guys that have an injury history and all
four of the guys they signed in the off season
have a history of injuries, so you are taking, I guess,
a calculated risk that they won't get hurt. And a
(22:29):
lot of it is not just preparing properly, but a
lot of it is luck as well.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
Stuff can happen.
Speaker 3 (22:36):
You can get hurt even though you're in great shape
and you're doing everything right, everything they want you to do.
And so I could see why they did what they
did with Evan Ingram or three games in. Let's not
give up on them yet. We got a long waist
to go. But out of the four guys all with
the history of injuries, there's two of them left. That's
Dobbins and Hafunka, who've been great. Those guys have been great.
Speaker 1 (22:59):
They've been fit, out.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
There everything we wanted them to be at this point.
So don't give up on Ingram yet. We'll see how
that goes with him.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
And Drake green Law might be availabaw.
Speaker 3 (23:11):
For the stretch run man, I sure hope so, because
going down the stretch, you get all four of these
guys healthy, down the stretch, you've got a better football
team than you have right now. So reason to be optimistic,
but man, I hope these guys get healthy. Green Law
I'm a little worried about. You know, he hasn't played
much football at all going back two years now, two seasons,
(23:31):
and the fact he hasn't been able to get out
there yet has me concerned a little bit. There's this
is the obviously pretty serious quad injury that he has,
and those can be tough, you know, those they they're
hard to manage injuries like that. He's a guy we
(23:51):
really counted on and it couldn't have happened to a
worse position on this football team than inside linebacker.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
Yah, that's where they're.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
The thin We knew it going in and now you
got him out and Drew Sanders out and so I
think's been He's been okay. Alex Singleton still doesn't look
the same to me, And you're gonna have to get
green Law back in there and maybe that could change everything.
And if he does come back, which one do you
(24:20):
sit Singleton or Stronad proace Ornad?
Speaker 2 (24:24):
He becomes more of a package, a subpackaging guy that
did that. You're bringing on some blitzes and stuff. I mean,
he keeps going a great role in the past that's right.
And he's a great special teams player, has been has
talked about, We've talked about a ton. He looks great
going downhill, not so much going away from the ball
in coverage. So you put him back into the role
that he's best at and Sante and Drew Sanders. Honestly,
(24:44):
when Drew if drews Anders whin Drew Sanders is available,
I'm gonna be interested to see how they utilize him
as well. He's missed some valuable snaps here over training
camp with his injury.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
He looked good in the off season. We saw him
at Otah, like all right, he's coming along.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
He's coming along, using them a lot because Drake Greenlaw, remember,
wasn't working out there in OTAs. So you thought, okay,
Drew Sanders is gonna get a lot of work here
in training camp in the.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Preseason, let's see what he can do with it. And
then he got hurt.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
So he's been fragile. So stay track.
Speaker 3 (25:14):
It's been tough. Yeah, it is really tough for him.
Imagine how frustrated he is.
Speaker 1 (25:18):
I'm sure it's significant.
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Hey, before we hit traffic here, I wanted to ask
you about to see you versus YU. So it's a
rematch of the bowl game, the alimable from last year
where EYU took it to see you.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
The key stat in this one for me.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Is how to see you doing defending the run versus
BYU running the ball?
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Because BYU, this is not verst ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (25:40):
You guys are averaging two hundred and sixty five rushing
yards per game right now, which is seventh in the country,
So two hundred and sixth and now that they haven't played.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Conference and so you know, grainy salt, but that's what
they're gonna do.
Speaker 2 (25:54):
They're gonna, I mean, they only throw for one hundred
and eighty six yards per game.
Speaker 1 (25:57):
They're gonna run the ball. They're gonna completely run the ball.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
And the defense meanwhile, is giving up almost two hundred
rushing yards per game, which is one hundred and twenty
second in the country.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
Young BYU blew them out in the bowl game last year.
Is this CU team better than the one they had
last year? I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
There's a reason to be concerned there.
Speaker 3 (26:20):
The Buffs at two and two, the two teams they
beat are not Power four conference teams. So you would
expect them to look good against them, and they did
a nice bounce back by them this week. But a
team Wyoming's not a Power for football team, So once
they get into their schedule, which is starting, that's going
(26:40):
to be really interesting to see how good this football
team is. Because now, well you saw what happened in
Houston against the Power for conference team, not so good.
Let's hope the Buffs are better than they looked in
Houston moving forward against these better football teams, tougher games
coming up.
Speaker 1 (26:57):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
And again another stats sort of details how it is
so early in this season and we don't know where
everything we need to know. BYU, number twenty five, ranked
in the team of the country for now, deserves that
they're only giving up one hundred sorry, they're only giving
up forty four rushing yards per game, forty four point
three rushing yards per game, which is the second best
team in the country. But that's again, you got to
(27:19):
talk about the teams that BYU has played so far,
you know, and and so you have to include that
in a bit of your conversation as they beat Portland State,
Stanford and East Carolina. Okay, well, there you go, Yeah,
sixty nine to nothing, twenty seven to three, and thirty four.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
Thirteen, So three non Power four conference exacions, right, So
take that all with a grain of salt.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Yeah, but they're gonna try to run the ball and
they're gonna that's you just know that. So you're CEEU
and you've you've struggled. Look, you struggled against Houston, you
struggled to Georgia.
Speaker 1 (27:49):
Tech stopping the run.
Speaker 2 (27:51):
This is gonna be a brutal night if you want
to somehow contain this BYU.
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Do you know what their identity is?
Speaker 1 (27:57):
One on the wall?
Speaker 4 (27:57):
What to see us identity?
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I don't know, still don't know.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
I don't think they know either.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
It's it's a little more clearly defined. With Cayden Salter.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
It feels like because you know what his strengths and
I guess limitations are really well, he played great. They
kind of struggled down the stretch there, but whatever team
is over he looked at four touchdowns. He looked great
compared to what we've seen earlier in the season. They're
gonna have to continue to maximize and play to his strengths.
And that's one of the questions that often comes up
(28:27):
with about Pat Schirmer. Will he continuously do that? And
we'll find out in this game, because if they don't,
if they're not clicking on those cylinders, this game is
gonna be a route and it'll be a lot like
the Alimable.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
Unfortunately.
Speaker 3 (28:40):
Yep, good thing for CEEU. Though they know who their
quarterback is now moving forward, they have their quarterball. They'll
say that too soon. I feel like he looked good.
He looks so good. I think they found their guys.
You have to use him properly.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
No, you're right, I just do you think it's too soon?
I feel like it's too soon to say that. I
don't okay good, I don't feel better now.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
I don't think they have a better quarterback on the
roster than him.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
How's it going?
Speaker 1 (29:10):
It's going well? Looking forward to hearing what grinds your gears?
You know what? Really, gra I'm gonna go to my
best Andy Rooney.
Speaker 5 (29:18):
So what I'm gonna do and do my best Andy
Rooney for the next seak, next little bit crabby, Yeah, angry, crabby,
bushy eyebrow guy. Oh yeah, yeah, I'm gonna let the
eyebrows go to you know, hey, what's you and I
are gonna be doing the show tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
I'm looking forward to that. What's your early thoughts on
the Cincinnati Bengals. Well, I'll tell you this.
Speaker 5 (29:39):
I talked to somebody on Cincinnati's coaching staff yesterday yesterday morning,
and this is an off the record conversation, you know,
as far as that kind of stuff goes. So I'm
not gonna give exact quotes, but what I will say
is no fluff. Either their delusional or they found something
because they like they legitimately think they have a good
plan for this Monday night football game where they're gonna
(30:00):
run on the.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Broncos defense somehow. So I'm just I'm just telling you.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
I mentioned earlier, they're probably looking at the Broncos as
they're get right to get they are kind.
Speaker 5 (30:10):
Of they're like, we need this to turn this thing
around and get this thing right. And I don't know
they like he would not tell me what specifically they
had identified, but he said that there's something that they
think they've identified. They're going to have some success running
the football. We'll see how accurate that is.
Speaker 1 (30:23):
I mean, they're dead last in the NFL right now
and rushing Uh Huh.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
I don't know if you're delusional or and it's not
like the Broncos defense is bad against the run this
year the top half of the league. Yeah, so I'm like,
I don't know if there's a delusion here or because
this was not one of those you know we're going
to put it to you. This was like a legit conversation,
like we think we found something, you know, And I'm like, okay,
oh boy, oh boy, So forty two fourteen Broncos is uh.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
I think the Broncos could vote race them on Monday
nights and to agree with that clownhammer them. Oh yeah,
clowning clown hummer kind of bring that back, and you're
gonna bring that out on my favorite terms.
Speaker 1 (31:03):
I feel pretty good about it as well.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
Obviously, we have a few more days before we get
into our cover starts on Monday at noon. But yeah,
watching that game, this last one, and I'll go back
and watch.
Speaker 4 (31:15):
The other Sta. Sota Cincinnati game.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Yeah, it was. It was a mess, and.
Speaker 2 (31:18):
It wasn't I wouldn't say that that it was all
bad execution, but their offensive line is in a bad
way right now. So if they're going to all of
a sudden start being a very good rushing attack. They've
got to revamp whatever they're doing upfront there.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
Whatever it is that I'm interested to see this at
least that's got my interest peaked as far as being
able to see this. But I would say, if you
were asking me to call this thing right now, I'm like,
at twenty eight sixteen Broncos, twenty to seventeen Broncos, this
looks like this looks like.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
A pretty easy Denver wind to me. Now, you know,
I'm I'm gonna take a.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
Minute and kind of rest with that, and then I'll
come back with an official prediction on Sunday or Monday,
whatever it is. But as it sits right now, yeah,
I don't think this looks like it's going to be
close to me safe
