Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dave Logan Ryan Edwards as we head out to the
KWA Common Spirit Health Hotline and bring on starting left
tackle Garrett Bowles and of course Garrett joining us here
on k Sports is presented by Kodiak Building Partners and
the Kodiak Foundation, together creating meaningful change with seventy two
to charity. Garrett, Congratulations the win last time, my friend,
How are you appreciate it?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
My guy? Doing good? Man doing good? I can't complain.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
Yeah, I would think not After last night it seemed
like you guys sort of hit your stride offensively, got
the running game going, protection was excellent. I thought bow
was sharp, Receivers made plays. What's it like to have
a sort of a complete game like that. What's the
feeling in the locker room after one of those?
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It's electric? You know, I think winning in this league
is hard enough, but winning like that and clicking on
all four, all three cylinders is definitely just you know,
that great feeling and makes you just want to continue
to win more in this league. But you know, not
all games are like that. But last night was a
game that we wanted to make a statement, but especially
in front of everybody, that we're here and we're going
(01:04):
to be We're going to be great the rock and roll,
whatever comes our way, and you know, it just feels
good to definitely get a W and you know, to
build off of this and continue to get back to
where we belonged.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
What would you say went into the level of confidence
that you guys had in both a running game, as
Dave mentioned there, as well as in the passing game.
It looks like bow Knix was more settled than he's
been so far this season. And of course between Jack
and RJ Boy, that looks like a dream. That's exactly
what I think the Broncos drew up when they brought
those two guys in here.
Speaker 4 (01:38):
What went into the confidence of the offense last night?
Speaker 2 (01:42):
No high. I mean, I think JK just brings that
capacity and you know that sort of trick attitude that
you want in a running back to'd be like give
me the ball, I can I can do it. I'm
in the fine lanes. He's pacing, he's composed, he's relaxed.
You know, when there's a hole, he hits it. And
then we you know, we got our j which is
you know, he's a rookie, but it doesn't seem like
a rookie at all. It's just there's gonna punch you
(02:03):
in the mouth and be a downhill back, you know,
catch the ball out of the backfield. I think we
have two you know, dynamic backs that they can make
habits for the defense. And it's definitely you know, we're
gonna lean on there more and more as we go
down this stretch and start winning some big time games,
you know, like what Coe says, We're gonna play in
bigger games that we did last night. And you know,
seeing that we played in front of fifteen million people
(02:26):
or so, you know, in a national televised game and
being able to compete like that, it's just it's amazing
and just speak fallume for what type of team we have.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Yeah, maybe what Sean was referring to starts. Even this
week you go back to Philadelphia play a team that
has won twenty of their last twenty one games.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
In the NFL.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
I'm not I'm not even sure I can remember such
a streak either as a player as a broadcaster. That's
a that's almost unheard of. But Vic Fangil, the defensive coordinator,
of course, you're familiar with him when he was the.
Speaker 5 (02:54):
Head coach here.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
What what two or three constants do you know you're
gonna get from a Fangio coach defense.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Well, they're gonna rest the passer. That's just who he is.
He's gonna die all blitzes. He's gonna disguise as blitzes,
and he's gonna punch you in the mouth. And you know,
his guys play physical. You know when he was here,
our defense was top five in the league. You know,
he's he's probably one of the best defensive coordinators in
the last ten to fifteen years to couch in the NFL.
I think everybody can say that. But you know, I
(03:28):
have a great relationship with him. I respect the hell
out of him for what he's done for the defense.
You know, he's he's a lot of guys on that
defense that fly around and can punch you in the mouth.
But you know it's up to us. I think we
can run the ball on them. I think, you know,
we're one of the best old Lions to protect Bow
in the National Football League from you know, not just me,
but the rest of the guys across the board. And
(03:49):
you know you saw it last night. You know we
gave Bow clean pockets. We do that and we sustained
the run. We're a hard team to be too, so
we just gotta respect what he's gonna bring to us.
They're gonna twist, they're gonna stand, they're gonna they're going
to come out flying, they're going to let They're going
to get that crowd rolling because that's what their defense does.
And we got to call that crowd and just play
composed tom football and go in there and do what
(04:10):
we need to do to get a W.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
I like what Adam Troutman said earlier today to the
media when he was talking about sort of measuring stick games,
and this is one of those when you look at
the schedule back in May and you're playing the defending
World champions, there's a moment there and of course, you
guys are one game to time that's exactly have to be.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
But now that game is here.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
So when you think about measuring stick games, playing against
the defending World champions, this feels like a really cool
opportunity for you guys, doesn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
No, For sure, you know you want to play these
type of games. You you live for moments like this.
You want to play the best the best because that's
what brings the best out of you. And that's who
we are in this locker room is we don't care
who we have to play. We want to play them.
But it's also going to be a huge testament to
us to you know, are we ready to play in
these type of games, Like are we ready to you know,
(05:00):
trap up our helmets and to get after them, or
you know, we go in there and we have a
bad attitude and we get spanked. I mean, that's really
what it is. And you know, I know for a
fact that we're gonna be ready to go. Our coaches
are gonna put us in the right positions, and we
got to execute the way that we know we can execute.
We gotta, you know, control the line of scrimmage. We
gotta control you know, the turnover ratio. We gotta win
(05:23):
that on defense, and we gotta you know, control that
on offense. And we do that and we hit on
all four cylinders, and like what what what can we
not do? You know what I mean, we have the
players to be so special. We have one of the
best d lines in football rushing us all training camp,
you know, just gets just makes us that much better.
And you know, we rushed for over two hundred rs
last night, and that's not a coincidence. That's just who
(05:45):
we are as a team. That's the expectation that we
set and now we just got to go do it.
Speaker 4 (05:50):
Love it really quick. One here for you, Garrett, because
you guys can go.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Straight from that game against Philadelphia out to London.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Do you like playing overseas?
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Like?
Speaker 4 (05:59):
I mean, what is that usually like? As far as
an adjustment for you.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I knew this question was coming. Well. To be honest,
we have Philadelphia. I mean that's the fore and foremost.
I truly believe. You know, if you look at the stats,
which coach Payton is such a stack keeper, which this
is what I love about him. He knows every situation
that he puts you into, and you can take debate
and you know, the stats of teams going on the road,
(06:27):
playing in a big time game that we're about to
play in and then flying overseas, they're you know, their
lost record is way bigger than the win records and
it's crazy to even think about that. You might not
know about that, but that is true. And I think
it's because teams get distracted and they don't focus on
what's im for and like, yeah, it's gonna be fun
playing overseas. I haven't done. This will be my first time,
(06:48):
and since I had an injury last time we went
over there. But like, we have to stay focused, we
have to we have to be disciplined. We got to
focus on the Eagles. And then after the Eagles, you know,
it's all on the debts and it's all London and
that's going joining over there and being team bonding and
all that. But that time we went on a two
game win streak. We won two games in a row,
so we know how to do it. You know. We
(07:09):
went to the Greenbrier last year, you know, beat Tampa
and then went out and beat the Jets, and so
we just got to focused on what's in front of us.
We're coming out a short week. We got to get healthy,
we gotta get recovered and still punch these guys in
the mouth.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Love it perfectly, said Garrett.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
And thanks for not falling for the bait me immediate
person asking you a question I shouldn't ask. I always
appreciate it, man. We will check in with you next week.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
No, I love your question. It's all good.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
I appreciate you man. Thanks see you Garrett, love your brother. Yeah,
I love you too, Man Egg.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
The Best Scare Bulls on Katae Sports is presented by
Kodiak Building partners in the Kodiak Foundation together creating meaningful
change with seventy two to charity as the Kodiak Foundation
doning seventy two dollars for every Denver offensive point to
number seventy two is GB three Foundation making a difference
for children, families, and veterans in our communities.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
Currently for the season, six thousand, nine hundred and twelve dollars.
Speaker 5 (07:57):
A good deal.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
That is a really cool deal.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
That was pretty funny though, And you know he brings
that up because I remember that was what we were
saying about the Kansas City Chiefs a couple of years
ago when they when the Broncos finally snapped the streak
and they were on their way to London right after
the Broncos game, and Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (08:16):
Kind of had a I had a bunch of turnovers
in the game.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I'll look it up to be official, but I remember
that was one of those like games where we're like,
all right, here it is, you got to find a
way to win this game. And he still made some
great plays in it, but they ended up snapping the
streak and win.
Speaker 4 (08:31):
It's pretty great. But they were on their way to London,
and that was the discussion point.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
You don't have to sell me. I'm signed on here.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
I'm going to sit next to you, defend you whenever
I possibly can save you from drowning. You know those
things that mean that good partners would do. I'm going
to do the best I can to make sure that happens.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
So it was October twenty nine, twenty twenty three. You
would probably remember that you're still on this. Twenty four
to nine was the final in it.
Speaker 4 (09:00):
And I remember I'm homes through two interceptions and zero
touchdowns in that game.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
And the parallels you draw on that or what well.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
I was backing up his points about teams looking ahead
because they were leaving for London after the game.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
So you think, and I'm just saying it somewhere in
your mind, Yeah, you think it's possible the Broncos would
look past the world champion Eagles in a game on
the road, facing a team that's won twenty of the
last twenty one games in the NFL, which is an
unheard of streak.
Speaker 5 (09:40):
They look past that. To face a.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
Team that hasn't won a game and they play them
in London, I'm asking.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
No, probably not.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
No, probably not All right, Well, I'm very excited to
be here with you, Dave.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
What if on win last sight? Yes it was, Yes,
it was. I thought the crowd had empower. Field of
Male High was a little nervous at the start of
the game. I thought their poodh holes were a little
bit tight.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
That three and out well, and.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
The Bengals did take the opening kickoff and sort of
drive down and T Higgins had.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
A big catch.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
You're like, oh man, seriously, you could just sort of
feel it from the crowd. Then the Broncos go three
and out. It's like, oh my goodness. But no, I
think it was. It was a game they needed. You
obviously need to win, that's the most important thing. But
after after that's accomplished, then you'd like the offense to
(10:40):
be efficient, the running game to be better than it
has been.
Speaker 5 (10:44):
A boat.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
It looks settled down for him to be accurate with
the ball. All of the things that I think Broncos
fans wanted to see from an offensive standpoint they saw.
Now I understand it was the Bengals, and I did
think there was a time in the game, and I
mentioned it on the broadcast as well, and I said,
they look exhausted because they were walking back to the
huddle with their hands and their hips, which is a
(11:07):
sure way to see that a team is tired. And
I thought just at the end, they sort of just said,
you know, this is just not going to happen, So
can we get out here, get back on the plane,
get back to Cincinnati about five in the morning, and
just focus on whomever is ahead.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Did you see the time of possessions, Yeah, thirty eight minutes,
thirty eight minutes.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
To twenty two.
Speaker 3 (11:31):
Well, the Bengals after that opening drive, in nine possessions,
had five first downs. That's right, I mean twenty nine
first downs for the Broncos, nine for the Bengals, the
exact two numbers in reverse that the Broncos and the
Chargers had the previous week. I'm not sure I can
ever remember that kind of disparity in back to back weeks, right,
(11:56):
twenty nine to nine first downs two consecutive games.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Other thing that it was striking me last night was
doing Broncos react because it's a weird deal. When you're
playing a team that is struggling like the Bengals are,
it's still tough to win in the league. And I
think we have to acknowledge that, like there's nothing given.
And the fact is that we talked about it during
the pregame opportunities to get right. It felt like it
(12:21):
was there. The Broncos offense should have performed well against
this defense, right, we say that, but.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
You still have to go out and do it. You
still have to go out and execute it. We can
say that all we want. We've done so many games.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
I mean, obviously even more than me, but I'm saying
we've done a lot of games where we're talking about
it ahead of time, saying, boy, this matchup and this
matchup really look good for the Broncos on paper, this
looks like a fantastic opportunity.
Speaker 4 (12:41):
And then it just doesn't happen that way.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
And so in this game, it felt like that as
we were discussing and breaking down the matchup. Two, when
I do that segment, it's like, I don't see a
scenario if the Broncos at least do what they're supposed
to do that they don't have as much success now
five hundred and twelve offensive yards, having the first one
hundred yard rusher in thirty seven games. I mean, those
are things you're supposed to do eventually, but even then,
(13:04):
the fact that they were able to execute it to
that level and look as confident as they did was
really impressive.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
I agree. I thought two things that.
Speaker 3 (13:12):
I and maybe not maybe they're not the top two things,
but it was the first time in calling RJ. Harvey's
first four games where I left that game. He actually
even during the game saying, Okay, I see now what
they've seen. I can see glimpses of and I don't
(13:34):
know whether it's via osmosis. He's hung around JK. Dobbins
a little bit more. Maybe the game the game does
tend to slow down for you the more you play
at that elite level. But I mean, he made a
catch in the sideline where the ball was thrown one
hundred miles an hour, and he just kind of extended
his arms and caught it like a wide receiver with
(13:56):
very little effort and then ran for like twelve yards.
Running Backs typically not all of them, but the majority
of running backs on that pass A are not going
to catch it, or B are going to try to
get their body in front of it where they can
sort of cradle the ball. So that showed me he's
got exceptional hands, and then I thought he was. You know,
I mentioned the JK. Dobbins has the patience of a
(14:19):
veteran running back that just understands, you know, from play
to play what is called upon. There were two, three,
maybe four or five runs for Dobbins where he's kind
of hopping behind the offensive line. He would dart in, stop,
get back behind the lineman, and then head to the
(14:40):
next gap over. Just a very very patient exhibition of
really NFL pro running back style. And then he knew
when he had to put his foot in the ground
square and get his pad level down and go get
some tough, dirty yards.
Speaker 5 (14:58):
And I think RJ.
Speaker 3 (15:00):
Harvey has acquired a little bit of that himself, which
is going to be I think really important moving forward.
I'm anxious to see I think Garrett is right. I mean,
they've got a really good offensive line. I'm anxious to
see the plan that Sean his coach, has come up
with for the Broncos offense against this defense. Now, Philadelphia
(15:25):
is not going to give you big plays down the field.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
Vick is not going to do that.
Speaker 3 (15:29):
You're not going to throw the ball down the field
and all of a sudden, here's a Broncos receiver that
is wide open unless somebody blows the coverage. That's just
not their their history. But what they are going to
do is line up in a four man front and say,
we like our four guys in the second level, guys
better than your guys physically.
Speaker 4 (15:49):
Well, Tampa Bay got a couple of big ones on him.
Speaker 5 (15:51):
Well last week, Yeah, they got broken plays.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah, they got a broken place touchdown in the end zone.
And then Argie or was it the back that that.
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Was a Brokener play as Baker Mayfield rolled out of
the pocket to he's left and Irving just took off
down the sideline. The big one to Abuka honestly could
have should have been picked. I mean, Baker threw into
double coverage in the ball somehow just went through the
two Eagles hands right to a Buka.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
It reminded me of Marvin MIM's touchdowns the Browns. Yeah
last year.
Speaker 3 (16:24):
Yeah, so I wouldn't I wouldn't get lulled into thinking
that there there are a lot of big play opportunities
I think the Eagles are going to try to make
the Broncos earn it down the field, make them work
in small chunks, and then put pressure at times with
four and at times vickl dial up and bring five
and six. But he'll be judicious in terms of how
(16:46):
he pressures bow Nicks. I think it's a fascinating matchup
when you think about Peyton versus Vic in terms of
just stylistically and x's and o's and schematically, man, I
don't know that it gets a lot better than this matchup.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
I'm very excited about it. You were speaking about RJ.
Speaker 5 (17:05):
Harvey.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
I wanted to go back to that for a second
because I'm one hundred percent with you.
Speaker 4 (17:09):
It was great to see JK. Dobbins do what he did.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
But in a lot of ways we've already seen that
he's been good this whole season so far.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Every single game he makes impressive plays.
Speaker 1 (17:18):
He's got great vision for as strong of a back
as he is, and he probably could be physical in
times where he just run straight ahead, but instead he
waits for the blocks to set up. And I want
to talk a little bit more about him, but R J. Harvey,
when you see the tandem of them working. And I
asked you about it last night because Sean in the
(17:39):
post game said they had a bit of a different
plan last night for the running backs.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Where was what he said?
Speaker 5 (17:43):
One thing we did different tonight.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
I mean there were certain tags that put either one in,
but we gave him series, and I think that helped
both of them. You know, we're certainly as easier to
call plays, you know, and both of them got in
good rhythms. I mean, you know, they were hard fought
yardage I thought.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
I mean, those guys both ran hard.
Speaker 6 (18:06):
I thought we blocked them well, we pushed them well,
and so we'll look at the film. But it's good
to have one hundred yard rusher. It was good to run.
I don't know how many attempts we had, but that
typically happens with a big lead.
Speaker 2 (18:20):
You know.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
I'd love to have that many rushing attempts, but it's
usually a byproduct of being ahead.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
I mean it is, but you've been ahead, right. The
Roncos have never trailed this season. They're two and two
and they haven't trailed until the final moments of two games,
so you've had opportunities. But he said they've left them
in there for a series.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
Well, they trailed the Chargers game right.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Oh, well, they they trailed, but they weren't trailing the
fourth quarter. I guess the point yeah, my point that
I was trying to make They haven't trailed in the
fourth quarter. But but yeah, they were trailing against the Chargers.
Point of it is, though, is leaving them in for series.
This is the thing we've talked about now for a
couple of years. It was cool to see. Yeah, I
think it. I think it's pretty telling. And I don't
(19:02):
know exactly how it happened. Whether lou Yni, the running
backs coach, was it his idea, I don't know. Was
it Shawn's idea?
Speaker 3 (19:12):
Not sure, but that's not really that hasn't been Sean's
m O in the past. So any acknowledge did, I
think probably before somebody could ask a question about it.
But it did seem like the Backs got into a rhythms.
It's there's a lot of season to play, right, I mean,
(19:34):
there are thirteen games left to the regular season. But
I will say this, I have been so impressed with JK.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
Dobbins. I mean, he's a hell of a back.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
He's I mean, he's a difference maker at running back
with his style and strength and his patience, And.
Speaker 5 (19:55):
I mean, I hope they lean on him.
Speaker 3 (19:58):
I love the rookie based what I saw last night,
and he's going to be I think, an exciting player too.
And he's you know, in space with his hands on
the ball. In the passing game, he's got a little
he's got a little bit extra for a guy that
has built like a tank. So those two backs, but Dobbins,
to me, gives you a chance, and I would think
(20:20):
that you want to continue to lean on him heavily
in that running game, especially in a game like this
that's coming up against the Eagles.
Speaker 4 (20:29):
Apparently also speaks fluent Spanish.
Speaker 5 (20:31):
I heard.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
I heard him answer in Spanish, and I'm like, wait, what, Dave,
I didn't even know esimonial.
Speaker 4 (20:43):
Wow, New Mexico a little bit.
Speaker 5 (20:49):
That's New Mexico different. Well, you think New Mexico is
the same as Mexico. I do not.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
That's somebody that lived there for many years.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
I do not.
Speaker 4 (20:59):
But there are parts of the country, by the.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
Way, if you really I don't know that aber okay, yeah, seriously,
Well south of Murudo so little. But if you call
the certain parts of the country, like in the Upper
East quadrant.
Speaker 4 (21:13):
They do think it's all part of the same.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Like if you're like on some kind of customer service line,
like when I was a kid and I would have
to we have to do that, you call up in there,
they'd be.
Speaker 3 (21:22):
Like, you actually spend a lot of time on customer
service lines as a kid.
Speaker 4 (21:25):
There's not much you did, no really, Yeah, okayter, Yeah,
that's a long story.
Speaker 5 (21:31):
That's amazed when the thing started. Sorry, all right, we're off.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Rolling here on a Tuesday victory.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
Tuesday will come back, keep reacting five six six nights
zeros a KA with Comma Spiry health text line.
Speaker 4 (21:43):
I want to hear from you as well. We'll be
right back on KA.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
It's electric. You know, I think winning in this league
is hard enough, but winning like that and clicking on
all four all three cylinders is is definitely just you know,
that great feeling and makes you just want to continue
to win more in this league. But you know, not
all games are like that. But last night was a
game that we wanted to make a statement, but especially
in front of everybody, that we're here and we're going
(22:08):
to be We're going to be ready the rock and roll,
whatever comes our way, and you know, it just feels
good to definitely get a w and you know, to
build off of this and continue to get back to
what we belong.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
I think that is the same just firing on all cylinders.
Is there a number attached to that particular.
Speaker 5 (22:28):
Saying? I don't, I don't remember there being.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
I don't remember, but there's the GB three foundation. So
I thought there was a little bit of a tie
in there, like I thought maybe we were.
Speaker 5 (22:37):
No, you didn't, No, No, you didn't. No. I'm not
letting you off with that one.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
By the way, the text line, yeah, you you're you're
being encouraged to keep things clean.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
You mean, what do you mean? Well, I just I'm
not the one with the porn habit. I mean, I
don't know how how how am I involved in this?
Speaker 4 (22:56):
What did you know?
Speaker 1 (22:57):
It was one thing to rip me for the public
spice lattes, the lanel shirts thing come wrong.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
I don't know. You'd be better to answer that than
I would.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
I let you look at my phone one time.
Speaker 5 (23:07):
I don't know, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
And even then that that time, what was I can't remember.
Speaker 5 (23:13):
What I was or something like that.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
I I don't remember exactly, but yeah, I think the
saying millennial grant.
Speaker 5 (23:21):
Do you know the same? Isn't it just firing.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
On all cylinders, all cylinders, all cylinders, because you could
have a six cylinder cars, which is a bit faster
than four.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
I don't even know if three cylinder cars exist. I
don't know either.
Speaker 4 (23:33):
But the GB three foundation, I love them. I love them.
I thought he meant, you know, offense, defense and specialty.
Oh that's you know what. That's good.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
No you didn't, No, you did not. You're just being kind.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
And by the way, you were a Bengals fan growing up, right,
last d last night go for you.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Parents were not happy, so.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
Your mom and dad were That's why. Yeah, you weren't working,
so you were in the stands it.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
You weren't a Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (24:01):
My mom wore her Joe Burrow jersey. I wore my
Bronco shirt.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Okay. Were people nice to her? They were nice? Okay, good.
Speaker 4 (24:09):
I think that score to the game helped them be nice.
Speaker 5 (24:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (24:12):
Yeah, everything so too.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
But you're right, you said early in the game, after
the Bengals went on that long drive, they still settled
for a field goal, but it did feel like one
of those kind of oh boy, this game and then
the three and out. But I love the response moments,
and we'll obviously spend a lot of time over the
next couple hours talking about it, but I love the
response moments. Bonix throws the interception right before halftime, just
(24:36):
pretty tough decision to make, and then you get the
ball back because the defense is just unbelievable, and in
a minute, in one second, you will right back down
the field and score a touchdown to Coldon Sudden. That
was that was sensational, and honestly, I mean, it was
a flag.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Fest last night. It was unbelievable how many penalties were thrown.
Speaker 3 (24:57):
I said before the game that that crew leads the
league in the most called penalties per game at twenty
four and a half and the most accepted penalties at
twenty and a half. So you knew going in that's
just kind of I mean, that's how they view the game.
Speaker 1 (25:16):
But if there wasn't that defensive offside, it wouldn't have
stopped the clock, and then they wouldn't have had a
chance to end up getting that.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
Touchdown pass to Corland Sutton. But that was just a
great play and it was a great kind of moment
and boy, what a ball from Bonnicks. What do you
think about his performance last night?
Speaker 3 (25:31):
I thought he was sharp. I thought that I thought
the game plan was good. I thought they again they
moved him out of the pocket from time to time,
which that's to me one of his strengths.
Speaker 5 (25:40):
I think he throws really well on the run.
Speaker 3 (25:42):
Now you can't put him on the run all the
time because you limit in terms of how much of
the entire field is available. I thought the quick game
that they utilized that a little bit more so the
ball came out, which frustrates the pass rush.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
I thought.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Then when they wanted to run the play pass game
and from the shotgun a deeper drop, I thought the
protection was excellent. And I thought he made good decisions.
You know, the touchdown run. We've seen him in the
past try to force a ball there, and he took
off and scored a touchdown. So I mean, to me,
it was the most complete game he's had and the
(26:21):
best game of the season, and I thought he played
really well.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
I thought he played really well too, And it's one
of those deals where I think for him as well
as for multiple guys in the offense because he still
had a couple of drops. Troy Franklin had a couple
of tough ones out there. Hopefully that's not going to
be something that he resets back into what he was
last year.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
But I don't understand either of those drops. And I
was talking to Bitty Fowler a little bit earlier today.
If you go back and look at those drops, it's
one thing. I mean, you know anybody who's played receiver
in the league that says I'd never dropped the balls
lying right.
Speaker 5 (26:54):
But there are better ball catchers than others.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
But those drops, to me, if you go back and
slow him down, they almost looked like he didn't see
the ball.
Speaker 4 (27:07):
I heard you say that on the broadcast. He wondered
a little bit about the.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
Ball didn't go through his hands.
Speaker 3 (27:12):
That's what happens when you just have a drop, like
on the on the naked boot he's running the crossing
crossing route. I mean, he goes to reach for the
ball and his hands never come together on the ball,
which goes right through the area that.
Speaker 5 (27:28):
His hands are.
Speaker 3 (27:28):
I'm like, he could he could not have seen that
ball on the post.
Speaker 5 (27:33):
You know, it's a little bit tougher.
Speaker 3 (27:34):
You run as fast as you can, you're looking back,
the ball may be a little underthrown, so you're trying
to slow your body down, and as you slow your
body down, your legs kind of get stuck, so you're
starting to go down, but you're leaning forward the way
you were running, and so you're leaning away from the ball.
Speaker 5 (27:51):
So it's a little bit tougher. But he did. He
didn't get his hands on that ball either. Yeah, So
I honestly, I say.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
This completely without throwing shape and totally respectful.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
I don't know if he's if he's seeing those.
Speaker 1 (28:04):
Balls, but he also made a couple of really good
catches later on. I mean votings through that heater over
the middle and that I think it was.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
A basic dig route, yep.
Speaker 3 (28:14):
And uh, you know they brought they brought Franklin in
motion and normally you come in motion, you're gonna you're
gonna go out somewhere on that side of the field.
Speaker 5 (28:23):
Instead, he turns up.
Speaker 3 (28:24):
They run a through route with the number two receiver
that side in Franklin and comes inside on the dig route.
That that was one of the two or three best
throwers of the night by Nicks right. I mean, you
you want to staple when you throw inside to NFL receivers,
you want to staple the ball to their chest.
Speaker 5 (28:43):
Guys don't.
Speaker 3 (28:45):
They will, but they don't really want to be running
in the middle of the field. They kind of take
a peek for the defenders and the ball's a little
bit high, and then you know you've got to reach
up for that ball, and when you do, you expose
everything that's important in your life. So I I thought
the throw was great, and good on on Troy making
that catch.
Speaker 4 (29:03):
You know another thing that stood out last night, and
you pointed it out.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Several times, Bonix drops back to pass protection is good great?
Speaker 4 (29:12):
I said that so many times last night.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
Yes, I mean I thought it was their best night. Yep.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Now again, I don't know how good. Henderson's a great
pass rusher, but other than that, they don't have great
dudes up front.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
But you know what, that doesn't matter. You still got
to block them.
Speaker 3 (29:27):
And I thought I thought the offensive line had its
best overall game. I thought the team had its best
overall game together.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
And now you get ready for a fun game in Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
That is going to be a fun game. And the
chess match as you mentioned with Vic Fangio and Sean Payton,
that is going to be a blast to see it is.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
I think it's going to be worth the as they say,
price of admission.
Speaker 1 (29:48):
Completely agree this our chance and when one thousand dollars
coming up the next five minutes thanks to Mercedes Bens
of Littleton visit Mercedes of Littleton dot com. Nate Jackson
is going to be a long round four thirty Today
we have Shelby Harrison is Tuesday check in with Principal
Shelby Harris looking forward to chatting near them about his
time in school last week, as well as Rod Smith
(30:11):
joining us after five o'clock so all sorts of stuff
again can continue to text us five six six nine
zero in the Kia Commaspirate Health text line, we'll read
some of your reaction to it. But I thought bon
Nix looked confident, you know, obviously, you know, passes for
three hundred and twenty nine yards, which is a career
high for him, and it just sorry, three hundred and
twenty six yards, but it was just overall a clean effort. Yeah,
(30:35):
that three and out. Certainly there are things in the
third quarter. I was referencing this todave you did all
of that and are also knowing that there are things
to clean up, and of course there's things to clean
up every single week. I mean, even if you have
what you consider a perfect game, well, they weren't even
close to a perfect game in this thing, because there
(30:56):
was plenty of things that you want to be better at,
a lot of penalties. Talked about those drops from Troy Franklin, bonixtares,
an interception.
Speaker 4 (31:04):
In the end zone.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
I think that if you can play effectively, and we
said this even in the games against the Colts and
the Chargers that they lost, like you didn't play great games.
You played a better game last night, but you didn't
play great games and you still had a chance to
win those games.
Speaker 4 (31:20):
That's really what the NFL is all about.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
And I'm not trying to preach here, just saying for
a perspective, you don't have to be the best team
in the NFL that day. You just have to be
better than your opponent and you have to out execute
them in the key moments, because every single game usually
comes down to a couple of key moments. You know,
the Broncos in this Bengals game, there were actually some
key moments. The Broncos got the benefit of some bounces
(31:44):
last night. You know, Marvin Mamms, I still maintain probably
should have been wrung up for a fumble a muffed punt.
They gave him the benefit of the doubt on the
halo when it comes to the fair catch in the interference.
But I thought he fumbled the ball. And I even
watching it again today, I thought, now, that looks like
(32:06):
a fumble to me. So you got to bounce of
the ball there there was a offensive Was it off
sides or a false start or something to that, and
I wasn't couldn't have been a false start. Oh, it
was illegal formation on the thirty seven thirty eight yard
catch by t Higgins down the right sideline on Riley
Moss that would have been set up for a scoring moment.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
So the Broncos got some bounces last night. They got
the again. The Bengals made mistakes. That's what sometimes bad
teams do.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
But the Broncos have not been on the positive sides
of those things for the last couple of games.
Speaker 4 (32:41):
And that really is the difference.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Right If the Broncos don't get called for leveraging, well
they're three and one right now, that's a fact. Even
though you didn't play a perfect game against the Colts,
you did enough in that game to win until you
had the leveraging calling and you lost.
Speaker 4 (32:58):
There were mistakes obviously versus the Chargers things to clean
up the lulls. That's something that.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
They've got to correct, right They've got to be able
to sustain drives and they've got to have some drive starters.
Speaker 4 (33:14):
It does feel like for.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
This team, if they just get an initial first down,
they're usually in pretty good momentum at that point to
get points. And maybe that is in part where the
kickoff rule is now that if you're starting around the
thirty five yard line and you get say fifteen yards
twelve to fifteen yards, you're already at midfield. Now one
(33:35):
more first down and you're in field goal range pretty
close to that anyways, So it does feel like this team,
especially maybe this is across the league. I'm sure that
somebody's done a study on it, that if they get
that initial first down, they find that momentum to keep
things going. So that's what they're going to have to
(33:56):
find a way to do against the Philadelphia Eagles. There's
no doubt about this is a ramp up in talent,
but it's not impossible. Like you look at the record
at four and oh, you look at the defending Super
Bowl champions.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
They are doing a lot of things.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
And the thing about the Eagles that I think is
the most impressive, and it's kind of what the Chiefs
did last year, where they're in these one score games
and their pulse just doesn't seem to really jump. They're
not having a great game, but they have this ability
to close in a belief inherently that somebody's gonna make
a play and they'll find a way to walk away
(34:31):
with a win. The Broncos are still working on that.
They had that when they had Peyton Manning. They're still
working on that. They don't obviously don't have it right now.
This game against the Eagles will not be an undeniable win.
There won't be a moment in the fourth quarter like
last night against the Bengals where it's just so obvious
that the Broncos are the better team on the field
(34:52):
and they're gonna win this thing in a walk. No,
this game's gonna come down to the final moments. And honestly,
the thing that we're probably gonna spent a lot of time.
I'm on this week is special teams because that is
where the Eagles have really made their strides this season.
I mean, they've been a good special teams unit anyways,
but that's how they're getting some of these wins is
because of their special teams play defensive special teams as
(35:14):
their offense is actually strugging.
Speaker 5 (35:16):
Well.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
I was talking about A. J. Brown too in his
cryptic Instagram message. I want to ask Rod Smith about
that coming up after five o'clock when we come back, though,
we'll hear from both Nicks, who spoke with Voice the
Broncos Dave Logan after the game. We'll get to that
next
