Speaker 2 (00:11):
Good afternoon, Ian, appreciate the time as always. How are you.
Speaker 3 (00:14):
I'm good. What's happening guys?
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Well, I mean a lot. The NFL what a weird
kind of weekend. It was first time we've had one
game decided by one score since nineteen seventy.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
I mean, what does that mean to you? I mean,
eighteen point twenty.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Five was the average margin of victory and that's the
eighth most all time.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
What do you make of that weekend?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
It feels like it's sort of like, uh, you know,
what are they call revision to the meme whorks? Like
we've had so many, so many games that have been closed,
so many games that have gone down to the wire,
every game that seems has been a one score game.
When I was at IDENTFLE owners meetings in New York
about a week ago, you know, that was one of
the things the league tated was every game has been close. Well,
(00:57):
you know you watch enough you watch of NFL, you
know that that is unfortunately not always reality, so I think,
you know, we sort of got to the other side
of this weekend. The other thing I would say is like,
as we get on in the season, it's kind of
slowly becoming a little clear, like who are the haves
and who they have nots? Like who are kind of
the good teams basically, And it just so happened to
(01:21):
have a matchup of a bunch of good versus a
bunch of not good and you know, this was sort
of the outcome now, you know. The other thing is
like the one of the best games is against two
of the worst team with two of the worst teams
Bengals and Jets. But you know this, these things can
happen unfortunately well, and.
Speaker 4 (01:36):
Speaking of haves and have nots, after watching the different
Broncos over the past couple of weeks, I mean, how
do you look at them? Are they part of the
haves or the high have knots that can actually make
people from a national standpoint really stand up and recognize them?
Speaker 5 (01:53):
You know, I think they are. They're definitely one of
the haves. I'm just not one.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Hundred percent sure what they are yet, you know, like
because they've had some really good moments and then I've
had some moments where the offensive struggling and the defense
hasn't struggled at all. I think that's pretty clear. Event
shows these guys are doing a great job.
Speaker 5 (02:11):
But they've had some times when the offense is struggled
and kind of make.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Me go like how real is any of this? But
then the other part is I think because they're a
well coached team and because Sean Payton does a really
good job when they had to have it, they do,
you know, they do. I just you know, I think
eventually the offense isn't kick in the gear. You know,
you're not gonna play the Cowboys defense every week, so
(02:35):
I think at some point they're gonna have to bring
and I think they will. But you know, like there's
going to be playing games every season where you don't
play your best and you win. I feel like the
Broncos have won almost all of those this season.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
We heard from coach Harbaugh a little bit ago that
it looks like Lamar Jackson's going to be available for
Thursday night's game. What was your takeaway from this weekend
sort of shenanigans, I guess you will.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
Yeah, it was actually really interesting.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
I was sort of in the middle of it because
I was the one who reported that it was Lamar
taking scout team reps, and you know, to be totally honest,
like I didn't. I knew what I reported was true,
but I didn't fully grasp kind of like what it meant.
And basically, how like, you know, if he's taking scout
team reps, they have to say that he's not a.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Full participant because you need to be taking your.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Regular reps to be a full participant. So that came out.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
I started getting some texts like hang on, hang on,
how is he full?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
And I was like, oh, how is he fall?
Speaker 5 (03:33):
And you know, then they went back and changed it, and.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
You know, I think it's very possible they're facing a fine.
I would say maybe likely they're facing a fine. No,
they said they did nothing wrong. You know, I can
certainly understand and take the word for it, but it
does seem to be wrong considering they changed it. So yeah,
the NFL's reviewing, and.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
You know, I would expect some discipline.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
We saw Carson Wentz return back, I mean return to Minnesota,
and things didn't really look well this last game. And
we can see him grim saying because of that that arm.
Now he's been ruled out, he's gonna have surgery on
his shoulder. So I'll ask this question, is this the
last that we've seen of one Carson Wentz?
Speaker 3 (04:15):
How old do you think Carson Wentz is?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
It's probably what maybe thirty one thirty soo.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
Yeah, see he is, he's thirty two.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
But it's because.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
We've it's weird, like I kind of wondered the same thing.
It's like, well, he's obviously thirty six, thirty seven, he's not.
He's only thirty two. That's young, especially because I'm old.
You know, here's where it stands for Carson Wentz. He
was able to play through a torn laborman his left
shoulder and a fractured socket. That is a significant injury.
(04:46):
Now he's gonna have his fourth baby girl, so I
guess his wife is gonna Yeah, his wife's definitely.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Gonna be the watch. Otherwise that would be a real story.
And there is the why people tune into the show this.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
And afterward he's going to have surgery to repair the labram,
and I think he'll be back. I mean, he went
two and three, which like, look, you.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Know, we talked a lot about the backup surround.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Like we talked about Andy Dalton Kirk Cousins a lot.
Both played this week and were terrible, Like like Wentz
played well. So my guess is he's not done, and
I don't think he should be. I think he's earned
the chance to keep playing.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Chatting with you and Rapaport, we're all anxiously awaiting any
kind of news on Pastor Tan who left the game
at halftime yesterday and talking a little bit of shoulder injury.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
That's the least what's being reported.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
I don't know if you've heard any rumblings at all,
but anything to pass along there.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, you know, I'm waiting like everyone else. You know,
I'm hopeful that it's not major. But the longer it
goes without news, the longer you sort of wonder. And
I think, you know, the initial thought was that it
wasn't major. But you know, this is why you get
the MRI, and this is why you do all the
test and sometimes you know, you want multiple tests, and
sometimes it's not clean, and sometimes you need a bunch
(06:06):
of different opinions. So to be totally honest, I don't know.
I'm hopeful for Denver that it's not that bad because
he is an excellent player. But we wait.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
So there's a lot of excitement in New York City
with her to find new rookie pieces Jackson Dart and Camscatibul.
But Scalatibul left the game and Eric has and it
seems as though his season is over. What does this
do for the momentum and more portly, for the confidence
that Brian David was building with the New York Giants.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Yeah, it's so tough because you know, I think everyone
knows this is year where Dave All is going to
be judged, and.
Speaker 5 (06:46):
They've had moments.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Where they've looked really good. At me beat the Eagles
in a nationally televised game. You know, Jackson Dart has
looked like a franchise quarterback at times, really has for
a rookie, especially you know, you don't have neighbors, you
don't have Scataboo like everyone has injuries, but that's those
are two of your best players. So I think it's
(07:08):
I think the challenge gets harder and I'm you know,
I'll be interested to see what the Giants end up
doing because like you could easily, I know, the record
is bad, you know, but you could look at the
record and be like, they've made progress as a team
and they have the pieces to get better. So you know,
if they stay, then you know, I think it sets
(07:30):
up a make or break yere next year. But it's
sort of always a make or break year in the NFL,
so I'm not sure how that fully changed anything, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:36):
No, I'm one hundred percent with you. By the way.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Lamar Jackson listed as a full participant on the Ravens
Projected Injury Report today, and I love what your colleague
Mike Garafalo said for real this time.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
That's annoying. I was gonna say that, I really was.
That was gonna be my tweet.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
He's stolen. You know you're on the phone with us.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I apologize us downs, but yeah, that was my moments ago.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Pretty funny stuff.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
We'll look forward to your tweets in matter of moments,
looking forward to seeing what you can do to top that.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Oh God, God help me. All right, Thank you.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Guys, appreciate you, and thank you so much. We'll check
in with you next week.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
That is Ian Rappaport, our NFL Network insider
