we would take callers back then, and the caller or
callers were on the line, I said, we'll get to
you right after the top of the hour news break.
We never came back from a break from a break
top of the hour break.

That's radio for you, man. I mean, it was believable.

They changed formats at the top of the hour with
callers on, and nobody had any idea. They never gave
you any indication.

I had my show used to be on Serious XM
nationally for like a year and a half and we
went on vacation and came back and we were getting
text and calls from around the country. What happened to
your show? Why did they cancel it?

Speaker 1 (04:25):
I don't know. I mean, we had no idea. Then.
It was good.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, it was one of the best morning but we say,
one of the best morning shows in the country. Why
did they cancel it? They they told us they were
bleeding money. This is this one thing, you're making too
much money. I'll tell you something else. We did it
for free for a year and a half with the
premise that hey, because this is the beginning of serious XM.

They said, once this thing kicks off, we're going to
take care of you guys, and we went okay.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
So after year and a half.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
We go on vacation and they fire us, didn't even
tell us yeah, and never got taken care of.

Obviously, it had been a very interesting moment there when
he asked you if the show was good, you like, actually.

It was horrible. I'm still disappointed in me.

Yeah, I mean I had a few shows where it
was like, I don't know if that one's going to survive.
It was basically morning show.

Well we're going to have again, pat Ryan coming up
here in just a little bit for a moment. You
were right about the Blue Jays, Dave. I want to
give you some love on that. Everybody in the studio
to pick the Dodgers last night, and we.

So I actually thought the Blue Jays were going to
win the series. I thought they were. How about this,
I thought they were a very very lively dog.

They were.

They were over three to one dog in this series. Now,
after Game one the Dodgers win, I'm thinking, okay, but
I mean, sure their credit, they have battled back and
I'm I'm not sure they're going to wind up winning
the series, but they're in a position where they just
have to win one home game.

It's been a weird and I love it for it,
but it's been kind of a weird postseason where home
field hasn't really mattered all that much because the Blue Jays,
for example, in the championship series, they lost their first
two home games.

And one games six and seven in Seattle, right, So
it's been kind of weird like that, but also I.

I've really admired your game and what you do in
the run game has been impressive, and we pointed out
during the broadcas I want you to know that that
block you had on the R. J. Harvey touchdown was

And you came into the league and we talked about
you and you.

I remember the first time we interviewed you, and you
you pretty much made it known that you don't mind
getting in there and digging out safeties. And man, you
dug that dude out on Sunday.

I mean, yeah, I just I mean football and physical sport.
That's kind of you know what I'm saying why I
enjoyed playing the sport. So you know, getting a little physical,
getting a little down to dirty made the game, you know,
even more fun for me. And then just going to
be able to score touchdowns on top of that really
just you know what I'm saying, Springing other guys free
is really what excited me when it comes to football.

First touchdown this last week and it was on I
mean there was a defensive penalty and it seemed like
bo Knicks maybe was aware of that you were running
to go. The opportunity to present itself when you're a
wide receiver and you're running round. Is it the mindset
of I always have to be ready because those those
opportunities are going to present themselves or is there sometimes
a little bit of I don't even know if the

ball is going to come to me based on the
look we're getting.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
I mean, as a receiver, you should always run, you
know what I'm saying, to win because, in my opinion,
our coach tell us all the time we always open,
no matter the coverage, no matter what's going on, like
when the ball in the earth hours. So I mean
bullet telling us throughout the whole week and running every
rock and win. So that's kind of our whole mindset
the whole game. But getting that penality penalty on that
play and it's allowing us to have free play made

it even better.

Pat when you when you come into the league, I
know that, you know, defensive backs have a way of
sort of indoctrinating young guys, rookies into the league. And
I just want to ask you, have you had a
moment since you've you've been getting quite a bit of
tick now where it's sort of been like in a
doctrination moment for the young guy.

I mean going in to block them safeties. I mean
a lot of them come with you know what I'm saying,
a lot of powers.

Oh yeah, I don't.

Think I really call a mean one yet. I don't
really think the only I could call like that I
might get called guard but I'm usually head on the silver.
I know who my guy is, and I know you
know what I'm saying. I got to be going to
set in the temperature.

Yeah, hey, Patrick, halfway through your first NFL season, you
feeling comfortable, confident, You feel like you're pretty happy with
how you played so far in the first eight games.

Oh yeah, you know what I'm saying. I'm going out
there doing my job and shoot. At the end of
the day, we winning a lot of games, man, So
really that's the best. That's the fun part about it
to come in after the games on Mondays and just
enjoy that victory Monday, man, a long does they win?
Everybody doing their job? Everything good?

One of the things that we were talking about yesterday
that really jumps out to me is so you have
the seven catches for age six yards, you have six
first downs. It's just you have you have this ability
in the knack to find a way to put yourself
in a position to to not only catch the ball,
but to make your way up the field. Is that
something that you've received through coaching or is that just
something hey?

Man? They have to basically fight to get me down.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
I mean, I just that's more of just being a ballplayer, honestly,
just you know, so I know a lot of times
coach like use me, oh.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
Third down. So really just.

When my number call is just being prepared and being
being ready to do what I got to do, the
move to sticks.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
Speaking about number, Pat, you were number thirteen. I'm a
number guy. You were thirteen in college too. Some people
are superstitious about that number. Why did you pick number thirteen?

Speaker 1 (11:38):
So it's crazy.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
I was given thirteen twice once I got to the
University of Illinois. Coach give them a game, me thirteen,
and then here coach, and he was like, we're just
gonna go ahead and put him at thirteen. So I mean,
it kind of made teams better, But I ain't really
that much of a superstiti Yuah.

Speaker 3 (11:55):
Last one I have for you, just for a moment.
On the Texans defense coming up. I heard Joe Lombardi,
your offensive coordinator, talking earlier today, says, the toughest defense
you guys have played yet.

Speaker 4 (12:06):
Oh yeah, man, dude, you can see it on film.
Guys out there playing for physical you know what I'm saying,
doing their job, and they doing it at a very
high level. So I mean, we go out there being
my A game. I feel like we have a good
shot at doing what we need to do.

Speaker 3 (12:19):
Where's the confidence level of this offense coming off of
that performance against Dallas?

Speaker 4 (12:24):
It's hot, man, you know what I'm saying. Like that,
that that that winning feeling is amazing, So you just
want to do it whatever you can to keep that
feeling going. I feel like that's the vibes we get,
especially during this week of practice.

Well, there's there's a way that you can endear yourself.
We've talked about it for years. Endear yourself with the
coaching staff, and you go out there and you block, right,
if you're a rookie receiver, if you're not the alpha guy,
the number one wide receiver or maybe even the top
two guy. You want to see the field. You go
out there and you spring other guys and you play hard.
I like that answer he gave when I was asking

(13:19):
him about the touchdown, and he said, Boenix told us
this week, we got to run every route as though
we're getting the ball. And I don't know if that
was specific to this week or if that's something that
they've been coaching all along, because I imagine it's something
that every coach would say, run your route as if
you're to get the ball. But that was a moment
there where the flag came up because it was defensive
off sides and Oenix took the shot.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Yeah, I think that the Houston defense is as good
as they are, and they're I mean, they're number one
against points allowed per game, they're number one in the
fewest yardage or yards allowed per game. But there are
I think there will be some opportunities.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
To get some big plays. They've had some they've.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Had some teams that have had opportunities, and it's going
to come down to the Broncos making a few of
those plays. But I think it's I mean, you don't
have to be real smart to figure out it's going
to be a defensive struggle. Which defense is going to
be able to sort of impose their will. And I
think when you have a game like that, it heightens

how important special teams are and field positioned and the
punty game, and how do the Broncos cover and the
kickoff game? Right, you can't afford to when you play
a team that is structured on defense the way they are,
you can't afford to slip up unless somebody run a
punt back to midfield or the kickoff back to midfield.

(14:44):
You just and even if the defense of the Broncos
then holds, then they kick it down and they force
your offense to go eighty five or ninety.

Speaker 1 (14:53):
I think I don't think either.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Offense is going to be able to generate that kind
of full field success. I think they're going to have
to take advantage when they get shots. The Broncos in
this case, because we don't care what the Texans do.
The Broncos are going to have to hit a few
of those. You know, not to take anything away from
the Texans defense, but I don't think they've played the

same caliber of quarterbacks and offenses that the Broncos defense
has played. When you look at the Colts, the Chargers,
the Cowboys last week, with the Broncos, even the Eagles,
I feel like those numbers are maybe just a little
bit inflated because of the level of competition. Taking nothing
away from them, they have a lot of dogs on

that defense. I feel like the Broncos have just as
good a defense.

Maybe even a little bit.

I don't think anybody would argue against that, right, but
if you feel the way you feel about the Houston
defense being overrated, you should take the over because it's
like thirty nine.

Yeah, no, I do think it's going to be a
low scoring game.

Wait a minute, Wait a minute, how can you just
said the Houston defense is basically not all that in
your own sort of loosecular when you look at the numbers. Yeah,

I feel like you also have to factor in the competition.

was looking at twenty seventeen, so why would it be
twenty seventeen If the Houston defense is overrated, I may

in the league, which is a remarkable stat when you
think about everything else they're doing. If you get into
the red zone teams are scoring on them, you should
take over too, you know, I might. Yeah, I mean,
where are you landed with it? I think the Broncos
can win, But I think this is gonna be like

a dog fight. It's gonna it's gonna be scrappy. It's
I mean, I think the bron I'll say this, I
think the Broncos can win.

And if I had to pick the game, I would
pick Denver. I would pick Denver to win. But I'm
telling you, going down there, playing in that setting against
I still think a really good defense and it ain't
gonna be like it was last week in Denver. You

not trade Bonex for CJ. Stroud under any circumstances, Which is.

A remarkable thing to say, because, like you said, two
years ago, everybody was like, how did anybody miss on CJ?

How did the number one pick the Carolina Panthers miss
on CJ. Stroud? And then you fast forward a couple
of years later. Bryce has had some nice moments.

Yes, there were plenty of people that thought about midway
through Bryce's rookie season, this kid can't play, and I
think he can.

They are second in the NFC South behind Tampa Bay
at six and two, who's on bye this week.

I think, I mean, this is going to be an
exciting I said on Monday. I think this is a
game that when it's all said and done, after the
season is over, you look back and say, man, oh man,
Broncos did this, this, this, and that Houston game was
one of the games that propelled them to the kind
of success they had, or they're going to look back
and say, gosh, they're so good and then the Houston game,

This is a win, a very tough but winnable game.

The Denver has to find a way to win if
they're I mean, I'm still thinking you want to host
a playoff game, right, I mean you you want to
host at least one playoff game. To do that, you
got to win the division. So they've got a game
lead on Kansas City right now. And this again, a
tough game, but one that the Broncos can win and

have to find a way to win. And the Broncos
right now, offensively I think are better than the Texans,
and defenses are comparable, and when you look at the Broncos.
The last five quarters they are red hot. Well, it's
seventy seven points and five quarters owe Nix has been
lights out, So let's hope they figure something out on offense.

a little bit surprised when I saw the deal. I'm like,

I think that for as fans, it's just like, well,
if you could have had Nko Ranton in last year
for twelve per, we'd rather have Miko Rick. And again
it's not to say that Natus isn't a good player
and then you're able to get some good play. You
got Drewy out of the deal too. I mean, like
Nations isn't good. He's your third highest score on the team, right,
he is the third and most point the points.

But it's still frustrating. I guess the one.

Thing I'll say on this for me is at least
you didn't drag your feet until the trade deadline like
you did last year. So there's a lesson learned here,
Rick is you didn't put yourself in a situation where
you're negotiating last minute with Natus and then you lose
him and have to trade him too.

Yeah, how old is he? And I know he's three
years younger, he's yeah, he's younger than Meko twenty six.

So he got an eight year deal, so he's hearing
for the long run with McKinnon, which is great. And
still got to wrap up mccarr with a long term deal,
so he's a core player on this hockey team. That
is a big number though for a National Hockey League contract,
eight year deal. When you break it down, what eleven
twelve million bucks a year eleven and a half. Yeah,

Ranton and get away and fans are still upset about that.

but I did say that there were some things about
the way that they were constructed that had me a
little bit worried. But once they got to the series
with the Heat, I think I was pretty good.

they are a way better team than the Heat, and
I didn't have too much worry about that one. But
I don't think there was any moment that I was like, Okay,

play in Minnesota, and I didn't think they'd.

It's against Oklahoma City, the human Dorts, and Lou Dort,
by the way, on my fantasy team I drafted this year,
but then I just released him because I realized if

I always fair well, I mean, he's pretty's off two
better things, but Oklahoma City, to his point, Oklahoma State.
There's a lot of very good teams in the West,
and the Nuggets have so far had an opportunity to
feast on some teams that are not so good, like
the Pelicans, for example, not a very good team.

They're gonna play Portland tomorrow night.

Portland's a little better, but I still think that the
Nuggets are on a different tier than them. But yeah,
I mean when they get into these, uh in these
these tougher matchups, it's gonna be a rock fight.

So Portland without their head coach, what do you think
that kind of rocked that franchise?

You think? So, yeah, you get your.

Head coach arrested to start the basketball season. I would
think that's going to be an issue for them, No doubts.

Well, we'll sort of see how that that plays out
of me. Right now, all we know is the they
are on leave right they're not available, and I guess
I guess we'll sort of see. I want to see
what their record is right now, because I think they
because yeah, they're fifth right now, they're three and two,
so they they're they're winning, they're they're they're playing.

But yeah, I mean, you got the five in Oklahoma City.

Thunder at the four and oh San Antonio Spurs, the
four and one Golden State Warriors, and then the Nuggets
are three and one. The Nuggets are the fourth seed
right now, and the only loss they had was the
first night against the Golden State then they just sort
of rocked everybody else since then.

Yeah, and they're they're shooting. I don't think they can
keep up.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Fifty shooting one hundred and twenty eight points per night.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
No, I don't think that's gonna happen. But they're off
to a great start and Jabal Murray on the seasons
fifty we any way.

The Houston Rockets have scored about the same amount of
points per game they're one twenty seven point eight and
they're two and two.

So and by the way, there's the ten seed right now.
I mean it's very early. It's obviously very early. I
was just saying, like, that's how tight everything is. Houston
is a very very good team.

I wanted to shout out a couple of things that
Will Lut's Wan Special Teams Player of the Month saw
that what what a run he had. And it's remarkable too,
because I think there's a little bit of a recency
bias or moment because of this last game. Well, you
didn't really need a lot of will LUTs, right, But
then you think the Giants games, like, no, he needed

them there. Oh, the Jets game, you definitely need will
LUTs there, right, And then you start to rewind in
your brain and say, actually.

It's so tough I think sometimes as a kicker, because

the entire season, But because he missed that, you ended

up losing that game against the Colts. But he'd come
in clutch for you so many times.

and fans wanted to cut him, get rid of them.

I'm like, really, and that's the life of the kicker
in the NFL. That's kind of my points exactly, absolutely true. Yeah, Yeah,
he's been money. And when you look at that stretch
in October, what a stretch for the Broncos. Yes, not
only just going undefeated, but the way the games played out,
it's been phenomenal, been really really fun, really interesting. I

think that's the most interesting stretch of four games that
I've seen in a long time from this team. Yes,
great they went four and oh but the way they
won them, I think it was made it really really
a lot more fun.

You had three straight comeback wins Reagles, Jets, and Giants.
All three were fourth quarter comeback wins. Very exciting. I
feel like years of our life was taken away from us, though,
I'll be honest, and you.

Know when you look at the start of the season
when they lose two games in a row on the
last play of the game, It's been a really fun season,
really interesting. I think, like I said, one of the
most interesting seasons I've seen in a while from the
Denver Broncos. And it's going the right direction.

So he won Special Teams Player of the Month and
then RJ. Harvey one Offensive Rookie of the Week.

Which is also great for him. And it came at
a time when I was starting to kind of question
that maybe he might have been in the doghouse until
that last game. I was thinking that Dave and I
talked about it. I don't know if it was on
the air off. And then he wins that award, had
three touchdowns in the game. That had to give him
a lot of confidence and also showed his potential of

what he can be. Not only is a running back,
kind of a gadget guy in this offense and you
got something going now with this running back duo. He's
a nice change of pace from Dobbins. I still like Dobbins.
Dobbins is going to pound the rock. He's going to
be your primary ball era. But to have Harvey as
a more explosive version out of the backfield, you got

something going now completely.
