Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're to hear from Vance Joseph and Joel LOBARTI coming
up here in a little bit. Fans had a pretty
pretty clever turn of phrase today that I am excited
to play for you coming up here in just a second. Also,
Joe Lombardi having a little bit fun with Sean Payton,
which is also cool.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's good to.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
See that they're all feeling pretty good about things down
there at Broncos Park, powered by Common Spirit. But in
the meantime, five six six nine zero, if you want
to check in and chat with us. So we were
talking about on Wednesdays, when you're in we listen to
sound from around the league. We talk about the different
broadcast groups, and we have recently talked about the Giants

(00:40):
broadcast crew, right, And Carl Banks is their color analyst.
And he's a former player, by the way, So when
I say all this, when I say all this, I'm
trying to make sure if this ever comes up for you,
you just go the opposite direction.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
That's all.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
So Carl Banks on a podcast recently called Dexter Lawrence Soft.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Okay, okay, how that goes a Giant, he would be
not great, not great?

Speaker 1 (01:09):
And here was here's response to uh Carl Banks calling
him soft.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
Uh yeah, those words were those are shown words, But
that's how you feel.

Speaker 1 (01:23):
I think those words mean more that they're coming from
him like a giant legend.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
No, why not?

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Wow?

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Wow? Well Number one Dexter Lawrence is a dog. Yeah,
Carl Banks is a dog too. When he played great
player for them, Only a guy like Carl Banks could
get away with saying that real.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So in my mind when I heard that this morning,
I thought, well, there's no scenario ever in the existence
of the world where Rick Lewis would come on here
and be like, you know how Zach Allen, you know, soft.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Man, He needs toughen up a bit. Come on, Zach
letting me down. You let me rick Lewis down here?
Come on, what are you doing out there?

Speaker 1 (02:09):
Well, it's because they got run up and down on
by the Eagles, right take one Barkley on Hunter fifty
rushing yards and they had a really big offensive, explosive day,
and Carl Banks was he's unhappy about that, and he
called out one of the team leaders, one of the
best defensive tackles in the league, and called him soft.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
You don't see that, or you don't hear that happen
too often, especially a legend and a legend two of them, right,
they're basically they're two legends right there. I wonder if
Carl Banks regrets that, and I love Extra Lawrence's response,
he's delusional.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
The thing is he doesn't. He's on Twitter defending it.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
He's defending it. Okay, that's what I was. That was
my next question.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, I saw Carl Banks this morning on Twitter interacting
with people defending it.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Yeah, you're not gonna hear me Sunday say, Drake Greenlaws soft.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Oh my god, can you imagine?

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Come on, come on, green Laws.

Speaker 1 (03:07):
You gotta bring it, man, Like, even if that's the thing,
like even if you like missed a tackle, which again
is gonna happen, You're never I don't know.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
And maybe you have to.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Be a former player to call those things, but I
just say, on a surface, it's like one of the
only things you can ever not say to a player.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
You cannot call them that. You can probably call.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Them almost anything else, almost anything else, but you cannot
say that four letter word.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Absolutely in that business. That is probably the worst thing
you could say. Those guys are all alpha dogs, every
single one of them. They wouldn't be in the NFL
if they weren't. And there's different levels of alpha dogs,
and Dexter Lawrence is at the top of that. He's
the top of the food chain. Yeah, I just I

(03:55):
can't recall a color analyst saying that about somebody on
the team he broadcasts for. I can't. I don't think.
I don't. Maybe it's never happened.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
And that's the other part of it. It's pretty rare.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Yeah, it's sort of like a peek behind the curtain,
like we are employed here by iHeart there's a partnership
with the Broncos, but it's one of those like I
don't know, like we have to still work with these people, right,
I mean you want to be critical, right, and I
think that you always try to take as much of

(04:27):
an objective as a perspective as you can. Right, you say, Okay,
this is what I'm seeing, Okay, this is how it's
played out, this is what they could be better at,
this is what I think you can improve those types
of things. But you know, to go into it like
that and say a guy is soft and then have
to go see them and still work And then the
thing is is Karl Banks is gonna maybe not have

(04:48):
to talk to Dexter Warrens all that much. He's got
to talk to other players on the team. He's gonna
have to talk to coaches. He's gonna have to be
around the team. He's on team flights Like, that's what
I'm saying, Like, that's why it's to your point. So
because hey man, Carl, you are a hell of a
player and you're entitled to that opinion. You just don't
hear very often when you do something like that. Now,

(05:08):
maybe from Carl's perspective, he's like, hopefully this light's a
fire under him.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
There's a way you do it. And Dave Logan's great
at it. Dave, if not the best in the business,
certainly one of them. And I've learned so much from
him in nine years. And I tell him this all
the time. There's a way you say it. It's like
he needs to be better. Yeah, he's struggling and he's
not playing up to his potential. You know, you say

(05:34):
it in a way like that, which Dave does, and
I do. You know, I've learned a lot from Dave
and how you can criticize a player you don't say
he's soft. That's one thing you really can never say
to an NFL guy. I'm shocked that he did that.
I wonder if he's going to pay for that well.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
In some for or fashion.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
I do remember when I was on a different station
and I was working on a show with Big Al
and he said some things about Wesley Woodyard that well,
Wesley found out about it, right and by the way,
not even broadcasting for the team, this was just on
a station in town, and Wesley convinced every single defensive
player that locker room that they will not go on

(06:18):
that station or with that show, and even to the
point of some of the offensive guys would have his back.
I remember even going to Tmarus Thomas one time and saying, Hey, Tomarius,
can we get you on the show? And he just
kind of looked at me and said, you already know
the answer to that, and I was like, I do.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
I had to ask, you know. It's kind of one
of those things.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
But that's the thing is like that locker room will
rally around Dexter. He is one of their guys. He
is He's a focal point not only on the defensive
side of the ball, but in that locker room. So
you've created an interesting rift here, and I imagine for
Carl he is thinking he's maybe gonna inspire him to
play better.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
But I think in what Dave says all the time,
and Steve says this all the.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Same, Steve Atwater, that's for the coaches to do. It's
not my play to inspire a player to play better.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Absolutely, Yeah, I don't think he's said it to inspire
him to play better. I feel like he just got
away from him, like he just let him. Maybe his
emotions get the best of him. And Dexter Lawrence, and
you know, these players today, they really don't know that
much about the players that played twenty years ago. In fact,

(07:24):
a lot of cases, they don't know anything at all
about them. So maybe Dexter Lawrence has doesn't have a
whole lot of respect for Carl Banks. Anyway, he would
know who he is, obviously, being a former great Giant,
but he might not know how great he was, and
maybe doesn't even care. Dexter Lawrence he's the dog these days,
he's the guy in the league and everybody considers him

(07:46):
one of the toughest guys in the league. Yeah, I've
never heard somebody on a broadcast call the player soft,
and there's ways you can do that without saying soft.
And you hear you got you bring in former players
all the time. I love Rod Smith's on and he
still will couch hit right. He'll say when he's criticizing

(08:07):
a player, he'll say it in a way where you're
not demeaning that player or degrading them or being disrespectful
to them. You have to respect him. Now, if a player,
you know, and sometimes we will hear color analysts from
other teams say that guy sucks or you know, their

(08:30):
defense sucks, you know, in a broadcast. I've heard that before,
but it's about the team, not the team they're broadcasting for.
It's about about another team. And even that I wouldn't
go that far.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
No, I never thought you would, but it made me
chuckle for a moment.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Yeah right, you thought of me. I thought said that.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I was like, I was like, I'm going to have
the color analysts of the Broncos in the studio today.
I got to play him the sound, or at least
play the reaction to the sound and just say, hey, listen,
I know you'll never do this, but it's still important
that we pointed out and say there is a line
and let's just not cross it.

Speaker 3 (09:04):
And you're right your ear flying with these guys. You're
on the same play. We crossed paths all the time
on these trips. We're in the same elevator, sometimes just
me and like one other player, Yes, like me and
Dexter Lawrence in the elevator. You imagine, wouldn't that be something? Wow?

Speaker 2 (09:19):
Yeah, what if you're parking your chest out then probably not?
Probably not. Yeah, we'll come back.

Speaker 1 (09:25):
Somebody's asking about the time for the ticket call in today.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
I will tell you the specific time.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
A little bit.

Speaker 1 (09:35):
All some really good sound on Vance and Joe Lombardi.
You did look up Karl Baks. He's sort of walking
it back.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
He did. He walked it back. And keep in mind
he said this on a podcast. He didn't say it
during the game, right, or pregame or postgame. Here's his comment.
I love Decks and will continue to support him and
his teammates publicly. I wish them great success. He remains
my favorite giant. As I stated on my podcast, in
order to get out of the current mess, he and

(10:02):
they will have to ask more of themselves. I've been
fair in my critiques, my observations as well as complimentary.
I'm not just him but others as well. I do
that publicly weekly. He said, I'm a giant and I
wish them nothing but success. So to me, he walked
that back. Did he walk it back enough? That's up

(10:23):
to dex I would imagine these guys are going to
talk at some point. He's going to run into him
at some point. And Carl Banks is a badass too.
He is. He's sixty three years old. Let's keep that
of mind. And you know Dexter's in his prime. So
this is pretty interesting.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
To me, and it really is. It's fascinating.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
There's so many layers to it, and I do wonder
for a moment, and I'll move on to something else here.
I do wonder if if somebody asked him to do that. Now,
Carl's again for a player. Maybe maybe his bosses didn't
say anything to him. But again, you certainly say, hey,
you said what you said. Obviously Dexter said what he said.

(11:03):
We've got a lot of season left and you're still
our color analyst for however many more years. Let's move
past this. Put something out there, Like I said this morning,
I had seen it. He hadn't done that yet, or
at least I didn't see that tweets. The other stuff
he was saying was like, I said what I said,
and you know I love him, but I'm not walking
it back.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Well, we talked about this off there. I won't mention names,
but a couple of years ago, former Bronco player favorite
in this town tweeted something about a player that was
very critical and the next day apologized right off the
top of the show and even said something like, Hey,
I couldn't sleep all night after what I tweeted on

(11:45):
social media, and so it can happen. You know, you
get caught up in the emotion of the game. But
even being a former player, there's a line there, and
I think Carl Banks crossed the line very clearly. Yes,
across the line. Okay, So coming up at five.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Forty five forty is going to be your chance to
win Broncos Raiders tickets.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Okay. So I've been doing this, yes specific time.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Thing because I want to help out our streamers as well.
We appreciate the streamers just as much as we appreciate
everybody listening.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
On the air. I hope you listened all the way
up there.

Speaker 1 (12:26):
We have some really fun sound coming up, not only
from Joe Lombardi Vance Joseph, but also the Louisiana govern
Governor Jeff Landy.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Have you heard any of this?

Speaker 4 (12:34):
No?

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Oh my god, I can't wait till you hear this.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
You got some surprises for me today, I'll you this.

Speaker 4 (12:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (12:41):
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry on how he's not gonna let
his athletic director hire the next head coach at LSU.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
That's hilarious. We're going to get to that.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
We're also going to get to Brian Schottenheimer basically saying
he traded in everything to win some games. So we'll
get into all that. We'll get into all that. We
have so much fun stuff coming up. But at five
forty tonight will be your opportunity to win a pair
tickets to the Broncos Raiders November sixth game. This week
we've been doing daily ticket winners and they're qualifying for
two reserves seating tickets and a red carpet walk for

(13:11):
the premiere of Lway, the documentary screening at the Denver
Film Festival, chronicling John Elway's iconic career tickets at denverfilm
dot Org. So opportunity to coming up at five forty
tonight when we come back, though, I do want to
go back into the Broncos and Texans a little bit
before we get to all these other fun sound We'll
do that after five o'clock. But yeah, advanced Joseph really
fun turn a phrase today and then Joe Lombardi teasing

(13:35):
a little bit.

Speaker 2 (13:36):
Sean Payton, You're not gonna want to miss it.

Speaker 1 (13:38):
This hour's chance to win one thousand dollars coming up
the next five minutes thanks to Mercedes Beens of Littleton
Mercedeslilton dot com report out. The only big change for
the Broncos was Alex Forsyth showed up with an ankle injury.
He was limited today. Drake Greenlaw back with full practice,

(13:59):
PG was limited again. Nate Atkins, Marvin Mims, Pasertann All
did not practice once again. And I'm at this point,
I'm expecting none of them to play. Marvin Mimms a
concussion protocol. It's kind of out of everybody's hands, right.
That's one of those steals where you just and it's
the worst part is they were and I don't know
if you saw this. They're actually trying to sub him

(14:19):
out at the end of the game. Marvin Mims wasn't
supposed to be in there for that final kickoff return,
and they're trying to sub him out, and then just
kind of didn't get there, and then he suffered the concussion,
like very very late.

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Took a big hit.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
In fact, he took big hits, yes.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
In that fourth quarter that one. Of course, he still
hasn't practice. I don't think he's playing Sunday. He's still
in concussion protocol on a Thursday. That's not trending in
the right direction.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Nico Collins for the Texan has improved to full so
I expect him to go in this game. Jalen pre
Petrie one of their star safeties. He's good to go.
He got full practice in today. The one that popped
up though we mentioned Dalton Schultz, he's still not practicing.
That's that's important. What he marks their talented rookie running back.
He popped up with a calf today. He was limited.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
Yeah, you've been talking about him the last couple of days.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
I'm a big fan.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
He he was a fourth round draft pick. I believe. Yeah,
they look like they got something in him. They haven't
had much of a running game this season without Joe Mixon,
and their old line has struggled. But yeah, so Dalton
Schultz is a big one. He's their second leading receiver.
He's a really good tight end. And when you're not

(15:32):
practicing with a shoulder on a Thursday, that's probably trending
pretty good for the Broncos at this point.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
Yeah, they're seventeenth and rushing so far of the season,
sixteenth and passing. I don't know, man, I watched a
lot of Texans today and I was telling you a
little bit about the game against.

Speaker 2 (15:50):
The forty nine ers. It was a weird one because
they had time of possession.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
I mean they kicked off the first drive with like
a ten minute drive, the settlement field goal, and now
again Nico Collins.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
So a little bit of the explosiveness.

Speaker 1 (16:02):
Of the offense was kind of missing, right, I mean,
we acknowledge that, but there isn't anything that they're doing
offensively that I will think we'll scare the Broncos too much.
I thought this was kind of a funny moment with
Vance Joseph. He was asked about all these guys that
are banged up, and about preparing for an offense where
you don't know who may or may not be playing right,

(16:24):
so Dalton Schultz or Nico Collins. And and I thought
this was a great, great answer from VJ on that.

Speaker 4 (16:31):
I think it's tough on them watching the tape, you know,
for the last four or five weeks, and watching Pat
out there first, not having Pat right, I think it's
more pressure on those guys to kind of figure out,
you know, who's going to play there and who's playing where,
and you know, what are you doing without Pat? Versus
For me, I don't care. I have a plan for all,
for the tight end, for Nico if he plays or not. Again,

(16:53):
his system and it fits all the players, Houston's and ours.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Vj's confident right now, Jenny.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
There's a lot of swagger.

Speaker 3 (17:01):
Yes, that answer is dripping, yes, a lot of very
drippy yes. Yeah. And he should be confident. You know,
two seasons in a row now they've had a top
tier defense this season probably the best one they've had.
And I like that. So he should be worried about
what we're going to do. I find that interesting. And

(17:22):
we talked about this yesterday. You wonder how they will
play it with certain out and Chris apram Strain. They
didn't want to say what they're going to do with
barn so they're trying to keep it mysterious, which you
would do right. You don't want the Texans to have
any idea what you're going to do. I like that.
And Drake Greenlaw coming back, that's a factor. We we've

(17:44):
completely forgotten about dra Greenlaw because he's only played a
handful of snaps since you've been here. But that is
a factor. And when he played in that first game,
and he was a force out there, and so he
gives you help not only in the run game, button
pass coverage. He goes lateral across the field better than

(18:05):
just about any linebacker in the league. And so there's
a lot of things that he's going to bring to
the party on Sunday. So you got to factor that in. So, yeah,
you're missing the best cornerback in the league, but you're
getting one of the best linebackers in the league back
at the perfect time.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Now here's what VJ said about Dre Ray played Wall.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
You know in the game he played and he played
twenty snaps ahead about six tackles. So that's what Ray does.
You know, Mentally, he's been awesome. I mean he's been
locked in, he's been studying, you know, even when he
wasn't practicing, he's taking the walk through reps. He's taking
every every walk through reps. So mentally he's fine. Physically,
obviously he needs more reps to kind of get his
football air and he a little tired, weak one, but

(18:45):
it's good having him again. Having your best players back
is always a good thing. And you know, he's he's
back on his schedule to kind of just keep moving
forward and playing good football and you know, keep practicing
and keep going as a you know, as a player,
and to have a chance to play back to back
week is going to be Keith for driving.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
It was interesting.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
He was interviewed in the locker room and he was
asked about what he did last week while he was
suspended and what it feel what's it feel like to
be finally back, and he said, I just want to
whip the Texans.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
But that's all I can think of. I've been watching
them all week.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Yeah, you know what I was gonna say the same thing.
You're going to see a even more motivated Yes, Dre Greenlaw,
not like you have to get his motor going at all,
but he's going to be even more motivated. And in
a way it worked out because coming off an injury,
he gets a little more time to recover, agreed, And
he was gassed in that game, There's no doubt about it.

(19:40):
I saw it, and so we got two more weeks.
Broncos won the game anyway without him, So it actually
worked out good for the Broncos.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
I mean it did, right.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
It's one of those deals because of what the Dallas
Cowboys offense represented at the time, felt like this could
be the difference in the game.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
And even though even in parts, but he.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
Got six tackles in twenty snaps, like you know what
he's capable of, and you know how much you upgrade
your linebacker room. But to your point, you ended up
winning by twenty points, and honestly, wasn't even that close, right,
there was a garbage time Joe Milton touchdown.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
So yes, it ended up silver lining.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
And we said that even at the time, we were
all kind of grousing about losing Drake Greenlaw, but then
we flipped it over on the other side, said, well,
this is another week he gets to rest. This is
another week he can just watch film, he can just
get his head right and then maybe you're gonna get
more out of him versus the Texans coming up, and
you're gonna need it. I mean, this is a game,
I think Today's point, as he was talking about it earlier,

(20:38):
this is one of those where it's not going to
be a blowout. You already know it's not gonna be
like we saw against Dallas or we have seen some
of the games that happened this last weekend. This was
gonna be all the way down to the wire probably,
and because of that, it's gonna come down to who
can execute in those high pressure moments the best. And
so the Broncos be nice if you have the ball last,

(20:59):
but you're gonna have to execute on special teams, offense, defense.
I mean, it's gonn take all three phases being clean
in this game.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
And penalties. Penalties are gonna be a big deal too.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Drake Greenlaw is a prototype inside linebacker. He's a throwback.
He really he's a throwback, not to the point where
Dick Buckis was because the game has changed so much
where Dick Buckis was trying to kill people out there.
Drake Greenlaw probably has that mentality. Ray Lewis, Yeah, that
he's he's trying to hurt you, but it's within the

(21:30):
parameters of the league at which you can get away
with the fact. I think Drake Greenlaw said that after
his first game, Yeah, something like that, paraphrasing like, hey,
you know you can you can you can be violent legally,
And that's a paraphrase. I forget what the exact quote was,
but that's how he plays. He's not soft, Ryan, Drake

(21:51):
green Law is not soft. Don't anybody say green Law
is sold. Yeah, he's he's a badass man, and he's
setting the tone for this defense. I think that that's
one thing that was lacking on this defense. They didn't
really have that type of tone. Center John Franklin Myers
kind of Malcolm Roach is the motor. Now you got

(22:13):
the badass inside linebacker. Now you got it all.

Speaker 1 (22:16):
So here's what VJ did say, because he was asked
almost on it right off the beginning, what's going to
be like not having passer tann out there?

Speaker 4 (22:22):
Well, you know, Pat's a great player, obviously, Mike You're
never as good, you know, as you could be, you know,
without your best players. So but that being said, I'm
confident in our group. It's a hand pick roster, and
every year you kind of talk about next man up,
So he's a chance for a young guy.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
To kind of play and.

Speaker 4 (22:41):
Take a name for himself.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
He doesn't sound panicked at all.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
And like I played that first cut, which is the
very end of his press conference, when he was asked, well,
it's difficult. I got to imagine preparing for an offense
and you don't know who's going to be out there.
And then of course he flipped it around and said, actually,
they got to prepare for us, And I thought that
was such a great, great way to put it, because
you know what his defense looks like without Pat. With Pat,

(23:05):
without Pat, you got to go back to well last
year versus the dor Leans Saints, and that was I
don't know, you really learn a lot from the Saints
game when it was a blowout game without Pats er
tan and what the tendencies of what vance Joseph as
they're playing Spencer Rattler And no, not really, I don't
think you can learn a lot from that game. So

(23:25):
you have so many years of Patzertan the defensive player
of the year playing out there.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
He doesn't miss a lot.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
And so yeah, now you have to say, okay, well
we got to watch some Chris abrams Strain. But what
if they put Jade Barron out there sometimes, what's that
gonna look like? Well, we're gonna go back to find that,
because you're not gonna find it this year.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
You got to go back to him in Texas. Probably not.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
I mean, so there's all sorts of different unique ways.
And again I'm not this isn't like Copium or we're
trying to trying to say they're better off of that
passer Tan.

Speaker 2 (23:54):
Nobody's gonna make that argument.

Speaker 1 (23:55):
But you do say, to Vj's point, there are some
interesting things that I think he's kind of excited for
the challenge on of the ways they can give different
looks to the Texans.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
It's made the game a little more interesting. You'd love
to have certain out there. But as I mentioned yesterday,
I'm interested to watch Chris abrams Strain see what he
can do. He's when he's had a chance to play.
I think he's been up to the task. And then
Jody Baron, a guy we've been waiting to see get
more snaps the first half of the football season. We're

(24:28):
going to see that too. Nico Collins, who probably going
to play this Sunday, their best wide receiver. They got
a couple of young guys and that's about it. Interesting
thing I saw today without Nico Collins, they're five and
three without their best wide receiver as wild. Last week
without him, Stroud had his best game. Go figure, how

(24:51):
does that happen?

Speaker 2 (24:51):
It doesn't make a lot of sense.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
But I guess you could argue, as we were talking
about playing with playing in a variety of different ways
without your best players, that it forces you to be
more creative and to open things up a little bit.
And they were targeting guys that don't always get a
lot of tick.

Speaker 2 (25:08):
As Dave would say.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
And you have a couple of young rookie wide receivers
in Noel and Higgins. You've got Hutchinson, who I think
is a good number two, number three receiver out there.
Interestingly enough, do all the Schultz didn't actually have a
lot of run in that game. He had ten targets
in the Seattle game. Then they only had like three
or four in this last game. And maybe because he

(25:29):
was a little banged up, I'm not sure. I mean,
they just didn't really go after him all that much.
I really expected them to because the forty nine ers
are really struggling with injuries, especially with their inside linebacker.

Speaker 3 (25:40):
Yeah, the media down there in Houston was a little
surprised Dalton Schokes showed up on the injury report this
week because there was no indication he was injured in
the game. But what you just said right there, maybe
he was. Maybe he was maybe that hinder his performance
a bit.

Speaker 1 (25:54):
This was actually my other favorite answer from VJ in
his press conference. Well, Gus Joe Lombardi here in a second,
but he was asked about Chris Abram's strength and he
gave kind of a short answer here on CAD and
then he kind of rolled right into I wouldn't say
tell us the game plan, but it's the thing with
you and I've been talking about, like, Okay, well, if
you are missing such a key piece from the secondary,

(26:16):
what does that mean for the front guys? Right, how
are they supposed to maybe balance that equation a bit?

Speaker 2 (26:23):
And here's what he said.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
These kids played well in the pass for us, you know,
in a reserve role. You know, his his physical traits
are NFL like you know, so I have no words
with him playing. You know, we have a good plan
to kind of you know, pull Pat's weight with multiple guys.
You know, it won't just be one guy. It's going
to be all of us. Is me calling Nick clean.
It's our d line providing pass rush for our young dbs,

(26:45):
and it's how young DB's just doing it writing playing
to the system. You know, it can't be a drop
off and you use only one player as great as
Pat is, you know, we get that. But you know,
we had a game to go win, and I expect
us to play well. Kind of guys who are playing
in place of pattas who play wall That's why to hear.

Speaker 3 (27:03):
He's making me confident. I know, right, I'm feeling more
and more confident about this game.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
I was ready to run through a wall after that
kind That's what I'm talking about right there.

Speaker 3 (27:12):
Yeah, and his players, I'm sure hearing that too, and
they're feeling the same way. This is a really confident
football team. Yes, you know, you're around him, I'm around
them in close quarters, and they are very confident and
what they can do, especially on the defensive side of
the ball.

Speaker 1 (27:28):
It was it was a phenomenal answer, and he's like,
it's not just not a one guy. As great as
pat Is is, not a one guy. We've all got
to be better. And that's that's exactly the right mindset.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
Next man up, well football team, next man up mentality,
that's how you go, that's how.

Speaker 1 (27:44):
You're run, not even just one man. That's his point, right,
it's next man up. But it's not even just the one.
It's not like next man up, Chris Abram Frame go
be pats Er Tan, it's all of us collectively.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
Next man up. That's the vibe I got from him.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Yeah, they have two good safeties that are going to
help you. Got Jadday Baron. We don't know what his
role is going to be in this, but he's going
to have a bigger role that he's had. And you
got Drake greenlaw back who's good in pass coverage. There's
a lot of things they can do. They have a
lot of weapons on defense to hurt you. And you
could hear a very confident VJ there. It's almost like

(28:20):
he's licking his chops to get out there show what
he can do. Because this is kind of a maybe
a barometer for Vej as a defensive coordinator. When you
look at it this way, he just lost his best player.
And if they go out there this week and dominate
again without patcertand it elevates him even more. VJ is

(28:41):
probably going to be certainly a head coach candidate next year.
And I think he'll end up getting a job next year.
And so this, this game right here, in these next
few games with Usertan could have a lot of weight
for Vj's future as a head coach.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Completely agree. All right, we'll come back to the top
of the hour with madro Lonbardi sound. But I did
want to play this for you because I thought it
was really fun.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Is this another color analyst calling a guy?

Speaker 2 (29:07):
No, I only had one of those today. But you
know there's another week next week. You'll be in on Wednesday.

Speaker 3 (29:13):
I'm sure to you gonna dig.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Some up, all right, I'm sure. Well, I'm sure there's.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
Somebody out there that's done it.

Speaker 1 (29:18):
Now.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
I was telling you about this.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
So the Louisiana governor, Governor Jeff Landry, uh, he had
a press conference, and this was yesterday. I had a
press conference, and I saw this making the rounds because
people were talking about it like, did you guys hear
the Louisiana governor basically said that the athletic director is
not going to pick the next head coach at the LSU,
which is wild.

Speaker 2 (29:41):
There's a wild concept. So so he.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
He has a press conference and it's not even front
of like sports media as well, you're gonna hear here
in a second, it's front of like the media, and
he goes on this epic rand. Now we pulled just
a section of it. Okay, but take the accident, by
the way, on its own is outstanding. He is Louisiana
through and through. All right, cajun, cajun, here we go.

Speaker 5 (30:05):
No, I can tell you right now, skboard is not
selecting the next coach. Hell, I'll let Donald Trump select
it before I let him do it. I don't know,
but the Border Supery is gonna come and put a
committee and they're gonna go find us a coach. Tell
hold on one real quick thing on that, because here's
what y'all reporters need to do. Y'all need to start
looking and who represents all these people like these agents?

(30:26):
You know, it's interesting, if I'm not mistaken, what is
agent Kelly's agent?

Speaker 2 (30:32):
The Texas A and they all the same agent.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Like you realize if I would be I don't know
how how many sports riders we got here today, just
you you should have a bunch. Okay, like this is ridiculous.
Lawyers would be this board for the way these agents
act and the way they are able to represent. In fact,
they may this so doull they may even represent some
of the players. Now, like, it's really time for the

(30:56):
NCAA to put on some guardrails all sports because it
is fine, we don't need to.

Speaker 2 (31:03):
Go out reals.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Big billionaires want to spend all that kind of money,
no problem. But if I got to go find fifty
three million AUS from Kim, It's not going to be
a pleasant conversation.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
I'm just telling you. It's so good.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
Are we sure that's not Bobby Boucher? I mean, really,
is that the water point? It sounded right out of
the swamp man. That's incredible. Yeah, that's incredible.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
He makes an interesting point, right, because it's a state
institution and they're the taxpayers are on the hook for
fifty three million. And so the offletic director that hired Kelly,
Now Brian Kelly's a big name in college football, right
or I mean, and he'll probably be back in it,

(31:49):
you know, anytime soon.

Speaker 2 (31:50):
I'm not a Brian Kelly fan. I've never really been
a Brian Kelly fan.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
But i'll separate that out. I can understand why LSU
hired Brian Kelly. I think a lot of people understand
why LSU hired Brian Kelly.

Speaker 2 (32:00):
I think you should have your.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
Athletic director involved, because that's what you do. But to
his point, in a state institution where the taxpayers are
going to actually pay this salary, there's something to that.
But I he basically yeah, he went on a rants,
but even before that about there's no way this athletic
director is going to be picking this next head coach.

(32:23):
He doesn't get to choose this because we're out now
on the hook for fifty three million dollars because of him.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
They don't mess around down there in Louisiana. They really don't.
LSU a big time program for a long time. They
fire a coach who had a really good record there.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
They did.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
Compare that to other coaches right now that have losing
records making big money. Nobody's talking about firing them, and
they're out there this guy Brian Kelly. He's not a
likable guy. No. The thing with him, he's not a
warm and fuzzy guys. He's a hard guy to like.
And so with those kind of guys, when things start

(33:02):
to turn and go the wrong direction, that's when everybody
jumps on and they pile on him. But if you're
willing to fire a coach with the record he had
and pay him fifty three fifty four million bucks man,
you're not playing down there in LSU. It be interesting
to see who they get. Maybe they go ahead and
get Saban, bring him back if Saban wants to coach again.

Speaker 1 (33:26):
You realize we're up to one hundred and sixty seven
point seven million dollars now in money owed to fired
FBS head coaches. Wow, between j Franklyn, Yeah, and Billy
Napier Florida for example, Mike Gundy, Oklahoma States, Sam Pittman,
and Arkansas Trent Dilfer even a UAB he was owed

(33:49):
two point four million. Jane Norvel sold one point five
So I mean, yeah, fifty four million, fifty three million
or so is the most. But even James Franklin was
it was a pretty big buyout as well.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
So in James Franklin too. Look at his career record there,
that's right, it's spectacular, spectacular record. He had a bad
year this year, half of a bad year this year.
That they don't play at Penn State either. They expect
big results at Penn State. They're one of those programs
just like LSU reach.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
Is not is it not patient enough? I mean, what
would he think this? Because this feels like a different
level like this year it is.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
James Franklin is a very likable guy. People like that dude.
And but Penn State when you look at his record,
he's got a great record, but they lose two ranked
teams most of the time they play him, and that's
what got him in trouble this year.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
One hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
All right, Well that was really good stuff there from
the Louisiana governor.

Speaker 3 (34:46):
Yeah, they're going to change the name to the LSU
mud Dogs. Bobby Bouche, Governor. Governor Bouche.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Be Na, Bobby, don't have ahead. I mean my dogs
won the Bourbon Broll, do you?

Speaker 3 (35:03):
Yes? Still cracks will be up to this day and
so many times we suck again.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
So good, it's a great movie.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
All Right, we'll come back we're in here fro Joe
Lombardi talking about the offensive game plan for the Broncos
versus the Texans.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
And we've got some more great sound coming your way.
Get a chance to win Broncos Raiders tickets coming up
for the next hour.
